Jo's TRG interview was really like: Robin is amazing. She's really come into her own. She's so brave. She doesn't take shit from any man no longer! What a girl.

Ok I really wanna ask this for some time now but it's fine if you don't want to answer. Which house are you in? ^^
I'm a ravenclaw if I had to pick one, but I have gotten Hufflepuff in the past. something between the two would be the most accurate for me. What's your hp house?

honestly, harry potter was a cool world to grow up with. There's stuff in the story I don't like and I disagree with some of the writing/story decisions now that I look back as an adult but heck yeah magical boarding school mysteries! I wish I could say that without the gnawing awareness that rowling loves being a hateful bigot and without experiencing terfs or so-called gender critical freaks liking my posts

I’m super disappointed cause earlier today I learned that an artist whose work I ADORE (they’ve been doing a lot of Gale from BG3, I’m a simple man) is a fan of H*gwarts L*gacy and like. Look if you like the shitty wizard game that fine, whatever. But as a trans man I want you to know I don’t feel comfortable interacting with you!
And no I will not be naming the artist, because while I’m now uncomfortable with them, I’m not the morality police and I don’t think everyone who plays the shitty wizard game is doing it maliciously against trans folks. Doesn’t mean I have to put up with seeing them on my dash tho! 😜

sometimes you find yourself nostalgic for the Harry Potter fandom days, and thinking affectionately about the things that were good about that time and place, and you just have to reckon with that. like, yeah, jkr’s behaviour has escalated to the point of unforgivable over the years. yeah, her stories were problematic in the first place, and that’s all the clearer in retrospect. yeah, I don’t feel comfortable anymore refering to my hogwarts house or my patronus, nor would I wear hp merch in public; I don’t want to give any impression whatsoever that I support jkr’s views, let alone ever give her my money again.
but none of that changes the impact the story had on my life. none of it takes away the joy and wonder that hp once inspired me. it doesn’t erase the fun I once had - many of us once had! - engaging in fandom discussion, making and sharing some truly remarkable fanworks, or indulging together in any other aspect of the massive community that built up around the fandom. jkr may leave a bad taste in my mouth (to put it mildly), and her bigotry may make it difficult for many of us, myself included, to purely enjoy any of the books or movies (or etc) ever again. but there’s still an attachment there. there are still characters and details and ideas and ships in hp that I love, in spite of her.
figuring out what to do with that lingering affection is something I guess we all have to do on our own. everyone is going to draw a different line in the sand. maybe tonight I’ll decide to read some fanfic, and try not to moralize that too hard, because reading fic is a long way removed from supporting jkr and her views. but it can be really tough to decide where exactly your hard line is. sometimes it even moves.
this isn’t a productive post; I’m not drawing any conclusions. just sort of thinking out loud, so to speak. it’s not something I think about often these days, but it still hits me sometimes, and few storytellers have ever inspired and then horrified me to the degree that jkr has. it’s just… tough to reconcile these things.

Not sure if y'all saw this, but Big Dan Gaming--known for his YouTube videos on Mass Effect and Dragon Age--posted a video saying that the discourse surrounding the Hogwarts Legacy game is "just internet drama" (quoting the video description he wrote) because a lot of people are still buying the game.
Tumblr media
Idk about you but I don't think that directly financially supporting the already-rich violent transphobe JKR and ignoring the blatant antisemitism in the game is internet drama. I'm incredibly disappointed in Dan, Babish, and everyone else who cares more about a video game than Jewish and trans lives, safety, and well-being.

jk rowling really RUINED her entire work, the characters and world she so carefully built for a fuckass play cash grab that 100% everyone had forgotten and gave zero shit about. cursed child needs to be burned page by page.

so Neal Shusterman apparently came out with a new book while I wasn't looking and. hooboi. feeling more and more like he should have stopped publishing after the Unwind series finished. (I enjoyed Arc of a Scythe but towards the end of that series he was really starting to show his inability to write competently about certain topics. like. Neal. Buddy. Why is the only nonbinary person in this series from an island where everyone is raised nonbinary as part of a social experiment, why can they not simply exist. Please talk to the community a bit more before handling any queer issue more complicated than Some Kids Have Two Dads.)
Anyway this new book, Game Changer, has been described as "a white savior narrative where a young, white, straight, popular football player mansplains a lot." So. That's fun. I'm sure I'll have things to say about it once I'm done reading it.

grindelwald and dumbledore’s story actually had the potential to be really interesting and i hate that it was watered down so much in an attempt to keep the fantastic beasts series as appealing to homophobic straight audiences as possible

I tried to ignore them, the voices penetrating my bubble of peace. They didn't like that.
But what would mama think should you fail this? One asked.
Oh a whole dynasty ruined, surely! Another answered
I pulled out my notebook and started writing. I detailed each conversation as they began. Eventually I realized I had started deciding what they said next and stopped.
That was that.
