#super dark times #sdt #josh templeton #zach taylor #daryl and charlie are also there but this aint about them #well it is about daryl. it’s *all* about daryl at the end of the day. but ykwim #im simply a sucker for stories about best friends where everything gets sosososo fucked up 🤷‍♂️ #sam draws shit #sam edits #<- yeah it gets both tags i opened after effects for this #this movie fell into tht sweet spot for me where it was the right combo of compelling characters who felt Real with great visuals but also #with enough moments i was like ‘what. why?’ about that it keeps me thinking trying to decide how i feel about/interpret elements of it #like. i enjoyed it but it's flawed in the exact ways a piece of media needs to be for it to rotate around in my brain for a while #also i truly did NOT have the time to draw this i have so much other shit to get done but i couldn’t focus until #i got this idea out of my head so. here we are

A sense of some fire getting close a super dark times fic

(chapter 4 up)

Josh and Zach do teenage things like crushing milk cartons, learning to drive, and realizing that being in love with your best friend fucking sucks sometimes fucks with your head and with your heart in ways you never thought possible

“Whatever,” Josh says, sighing it out like he’s exhausted. Like Zach’s exhausting him. And when he gets like this there’s really nothing that can pull him out of it. Since they were kids Zach kind of thought of it as quicksand. It pulls him down and holds him there, and just keeping his head above is about all Josh can manage. Like it’s not really something that either of them can help. “Just don’t—” Just don’t leave me. But of course, that’s an impossible thing to say to your best friend. It’s too big; it means too much. Josh doesn’t know how to drop all his defences like that, just sometimes he fucking wishes he could, wishes he could just say it and leave all this weirdness behind them. He can’t though. He can’t even get his mouth to begin to shape the words, so he finds the other strap of his backpack and says, “See you, man,” instead.

I have lost the ability to watch Super Dark Times without reading Zach as an unrealised gay teen in love with his best friend and confused about his sexuality. I know deep down that most of the moments that triggered this read have other explanations, but try telling my gay little brain that.
