Hi, do you know where I can find a pdf of the legacy of yangchen, I'm nearly done with the dawn of yangchen, but I cannot find a loy pdf ANYWHERE.
In other news, kavik&kalyaan and yangchen&jetsun make me mentally ill!! There's a line where jujinta is talking to kavik about how he can never forgive himself for the death of his brother, because “the person who could forgive me is not there anymore” and “some acts just cannot be forgiven” and I can't help but see the parallels in this story (and jujinta's character) betw. kavik, yangchen and their guilt over the loss of their older siblings. After the conversation kavik has with kalyaan (he's so funny btw), the fact that he blames himself for kalyaan losing his fingers in the blizzard and the hunts going bad which eventually leads to his family moving to bin-er and losing kalyaan in the first place; I really can't help but connect him with that phrase “some acts just cannot be forgiven” because he never forgave himself for the loss of kalyaan even though kalyaan very much CHOSE to abandon their family in order to work for henshe.
yangchen blames herself for jetsun's death in the spirit world, even though she was just a small child who couldn't control how her past lives affected her and jetsun would never be able to live with herself if she let yangchen die. It doesn't matter how much good she does, she can never forgive herself for her sister's death because “the person who could forgive me is not there anymore”
Jujinta also has the habit of asking forgiveness from the spirits whenever he does wrong (basically whenever he does his job), because his brothers is dead and he needs to find forgiveness SONEWHERE. I think it serves as a nice parallel to how yangchen hates how she has to too often rely on sneakier, morally questionable methods in order to do good, because she feels that she's disappointing jetsun by being this type of avatar. But the more good she does, the more people she helps, the more she is becoming the avatar jetsun saved, etc.
Sorry this is long and maybe inaccurate since I haven't entirely finished the book. But I really love your analysis of these novels and I wish more people read them.
yes! I absolutely endorse this reading, and honestly have nothing to add because I don’t really remember the details of the first book very well (it’s been a couple years since I read it, and I read the whole thing in a day). but I approve this message. also you definitely wouldn’t want to download the legacy of yangchen from z-lib or libgen, because that would be piracy, which is wrong. and if you do, you can’t consider me an accomplice to your egregious crime, because I was explicitly telling you what NOT to do. so there.

(and yes i finished both yangchen books, yangchen and kavik both find each other attractive and have a great arc with a very implied ending thank you)

just finished dawn of yangchen and got so attached to all the characters omg. Very excited to read the next one.
One thing that bugged me looking at fanart is that it feels like everyone missed Kavik calling Jujinta a kid in his description of him? Like forgive me if there's more detail that gives Jujinta a set age and height in Legacy of Yangchen but since 17 year old Kavik calls him a kid he's gotta be like 12-14 right?

every eventual member of a team avatar who has a history of previously betraying the avatar shall be given a serious pep talk by another member of their team. jujinta and katara were both so real for that.

no spoilers -> i finished the yangchen books, id rate them honestly a 10/10!! the first one was sooooo interesting and sucked me in, i didnt think that politics could be so interesting loll. the second one had the same effect, watching the relationships become fixed over the course of the novel was amazing. f.c.yee is TRULY an amazing writer i was genuinely wowed especially when the perspectives switched to unlikely people to give backstory. after these books, yangchen has to be one of my favorite avatars, and her and kaviks relationship is so complex and i want them together SOOOOO bad.
okay now SPOILERSSSS -> I LOVEDDDDD that kavik and yangchens relationship at the end of the first book was bad. i loved that they had a whole arc of becoming friends only for him to betray her for his brother who hed been wanting to see for so long, and i love that their relationship was fixed in the second book. i ABSOLUTELLLYLYLYL wanted them together i am the NUMBER ONE yangvik shipper on GODDDDD. anyways!! jujintas introduction in the first book was so interesting and i wanted to know so much more about what actually happened with him and him “killing” his brother or smth?? alledgedly… but i loved him and yangchens group w akuudan and tagayum and kavik calling him JUJI. oh i died. speaking of tagayum and akuudan they were SO CUTE, when i first read the part in the first book ab them being husbands i was so excited and i think they were handled so well (im very excited for kyoshi and rangis relationship i havent read the kyoshi books yet!!) their betrothal bracelets or necklaces or whatever are LEGIT SO CUTE and their backstorys!!!! anyways… CHAISEE!!!! i LOVEDDDD HERRRR her as a villain ATE DOWNNNNNN she was CRAZY. her backstory, the pearl, her baby, THE REVEAL WHICH I WILL TALK AB THE OTHER HALF OF RIGHT NOW. kaviks brother, kalyaan’s reveal in the first book was CRAZY. and his appearance in the second was EVEN CRAZIER. i was so shocked when kavik saw him, and then when he revealed that kavik had no leverage because he already came clean to chaisee and HE WAS THE FATHER OF HER BABY???????? my jaw dropped, i was in the car with my grandma and my cousin they can vouch for me. back to chaisee, when she was begging yangchen while thapa was preparing to use his combustion bending, oh gurl that was crazy. oh my god i almost forgot NUJIANS DEATH WAS SPOILED FOR ME BUT WHEN IT HAPPENED I ALMSOT CRIEDDDDD. and yangchen finding jetsun after so long was heartbreaking and also hearthealing and simultaneously heartstopping.
okay well if u wanna know anymore (theres a lot more) feel free to dm me or ask me any questions anytime ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ i will be reading the kyoshi books next, and if the rumors of the other avatars books coming out are true i will be SOOO excited and read them so quick. 🔥

Excerpt from Accompaniment
I'm writing an Avatar Yangchen story, but I am a verrrryyy slowww writer, and I am so so impatient to share what i have written with people, and what I have written so far is three variations on a chapter that will take place somewhere in the middle.
Read on if you like: past lives, sleepy kisses, or characters who protect each others secrets.
*******************************************
Context: The team has just left Taku on a ship and is en route to the North Pole. They’re sitting around a stove belowdecks after a difficult day of sailing, and Jujinta has just said something funny.
The rest of the team immediately howled with laughter. It was true, and it was so unexpected, coming from Jujinta, that the observation was suddenly ten times funnier. Akuudan slapped him on the back like a proud uncle whose favorite nephew had just passed his ice dodging ceremony; he nearly knocked him off the bench with his strength, but Jujinta didn’t seem to mind. Kavik had never seen Juji look so pleased with himself.
When she could speak again around the laughter still in her throat, Yangchen breathed, “Good one, Ju Dee.”
Jujinta paused. “... My name’s Jujinta,” he said, sounding hurt.
“Hmm?” The Avatar hummed.
Kavik looked at Yangchen, really looked at her. She sat drooped in her seat, curled around her teacup, staring into the coals with shining, half-lidded eyes.
Or at least, someone was staring into the coals through her soft gray eyes.
“O-kay, I think it’s time for bed,” Kavik said, gently taking the teacup from her hands. He wrapped an arm under her shoulders, and hoisted her to her feet, immediately provoking an uproar from their companions.
“Hey!”
“What are you-”
“You can’t just-”
Apparently, being forgiven for his betrayal in Bin-Er didn’t mean he was absolved from what the rest of the team perceived as Slights Against the Avatar. Kavik hastily stepped away from her and held his hands up placatingly.
The yelling seemed to snap Yangchen out of whatever trance she’d been in; she clapped her palms over her ears.
“Chattering hog monkeys, what’s all the fuss about?”
“He needs to show you more respect,” complained Tayagum, though the Avatar’s apparent dismissiveness towards the situation took the wind out of his sails.
She yawned—a big, air nomad yawn—and turned away from the fire.
“I’m going to bed,” she announced.
Kavik took one look at the glares he was receiving and decided to follow her out,
He caught up to her outside the captain’s quarters—another thing not usually found on water tribe ships.
“Wait!” he called. “Are you okay? Are you... you?” he asked quietly
Yangchen exhaled. “I’m me, alright. Was I somebody else earlier?”
“You called Jujinta by the wrong name.”
She winced.
“You didn’t say anything else though!” he hastened to add. “It was nothing obvious, I don’t think the others would ever guess, unless you’ve told them about your…”
“Blessing?” she supplied wryly.
“That,” said Kavik. “... have you told them?”
“No,” Yangchen frowned. “And I don’t want to, because… because…well, I just don't."
Kavik understood. She didn’t need to explain any further.
“Your secret’s safe with me,” he said. He began to turn away. “Goodnight, Av-”
Suddenly, Yangchen closed the distance between them and kissed him on the cheek. “Goodnight, Kavik.”
Kavik could only gape as she gently closed the door in his face.
***********************************
“... O-kay, I think it’s time for bed,” Kavik said, gently taking the teacup from her hands. He wrapped an arm under her shoulders, and hoisted her to her feet.
“Good night,” he said to the rest of the team. Tayagum glared at him, presumably for daring to touch the Avatar, but Akuudan merely looked thoughtful. Jujinta was still staring hard into his cup, the poor guy.
He escorted her back to the captain's quarters—another thing not commonly found on water tribe ships. Yangchen leaned on his shoulders the whole way, walking with the shuffling steps of the very old.
They stopped outside her door.
“Are you good from here?” he asked.
Yangchen didn’t answer.
“Avatar?” He asked.
She was looking at him. Studying his facial features….which seemed like something Yangchen would do. She had probably come back to herself during their short walk, and was now watching his pupils to see if they would dilate when she asked him some extremely important question assessing his loyalty.
Instead, she cupped his face in her hand, and kissed him on the cheek.
“Goodnight,” she breathed, before stepping into her room and closing the door.
Kavik stood in the hallway in shock. His hand flew up to where her lips had brushed across his skin moments before. So much for checking his pupils.
Had she…? Yes. Or maybe not? She’d definitely kissed him, but had she kissed him? The gesture had seemed almost grandmotherly, like his gran-gran greeting him with a kunik.
As far as he knew, only watertribesmen did kunik. Everywhere else, a kiss was well… a kiss.
His stomach fluttered, as he realized how much he hoped that Yangchen had been herself when she kissed him, and that she hadn’t meant it in a familial way.
Most of all, he really hoped she’d do it again.
**********************************************
…Or at least, someone was staring into the coals with her soft gray eyes.
If it had been just the two of them, Kavik wouldn’t have hesitated to wrap an arm around Yangchen’s willowy shoulders and guide her to bed. But that would look strange to the others. Plus, the three older men didn’t like the casual way he and Yanchen often acted around each other, and he’d just gotten back into their good books.
Kavik was tired of being shunned.
So instead he said, very cautiously, “Avatar? You seem tired. Maybe you should go to bed.”
The Avatar rose from her seat, but made no move to leave.
“Tired?” She snorted. “What gave you that idea?”
“Then rest,” said Akuudan. “Tomorrow we’ll be in reach  of the Northern Water Tribe, and we’ll need to be sharp.”
Yangchen scoffed. “Even the sharpest blade cannot slice open a river.”
The others blinked at her in confusion. It was a variation of a common enough proverb, but it was unclear how it applied in this context.
“What do you mean?” asked Tayagum.
“I mean that Chief Ha-”
Kavik choked very suddenly and very loudly on the rice wine he’d been sipping. Tayagum slapped him hard on the back repeatedly, which made his fake coughs turn into very real gasps for air. He hoped that between the commotion and the alcohol, no one would notice the Avatar strategizing against a long-dead chief.
“Thanks,” he said to the older man, sarcastically
“Anytime,” said Tayagum brightly.
The Avatar was the only one who hadn’t reacted to his coughing fit. She was still standing in front of the stove, the reflection of embers sparkling in her eyes.
Embers. In the weeks they had been traveling together, Kavik had met at least two more of Yangchen’s past lives. Neither of them had been as alarming as the first one he’d met - the Avatar on the brink, the one called to the forefront by fire and exhaustion, the one whose friend was called Mesose.
If that was who he was dealing with, Kavik couldn’t afford to hesitate any longer.
“You look dead on your feet,” he said. He rose to his own feet, and gently took her elbow, the way he had a dozen times in Taku. “Come on,” he said, tugging on her arm. “Even you can’t stay awake forever.”
To his relief, Yangchen’s feet began to move.
“Good night!” He called over his shoulder, as they left the others behind.
Kavik led her down the hall to the captain’s quarters. He hesitated at the door, but one look at her slack expression made him turn the knob and step inside.
The room was dark. Kavik could just make out a bed, a small desk, and several bundles of white fluff. A backstrap loom had been tied to the bedpost, and a half finished white cloth was stretched out upon it.
Kavik finally knew what Yangchen had been doing in her room all these days; she’d been weaving mourning robes.
Kavik let out a heavy sigh, and guided her to the bed. He shifted the loom and the half woven garment to the desk, unlaced her boots, and was about to tuck her in when her hand caught his.
”You’re not mad at me for what I said earlier, are you Sese?”
Sese! So this was the same past life. They seemed…. less resentful than the first time they’d met. Maybe the real Mesose had done a better job at convincing the Avatar that humanity was worth saving. Or maybe Yangchen had been remembering a bad day.
Once again, Kavik stepped into the role of Mesose. “I could never stay mad at you,” he replied.
“Never?”
“Yeah, I think you’re only temporarily infuriating.”
The Avatar batted her eyes at him. “Does that mean I get a goodnight kiss?”
Spirits help him. Kavik gulped, and glanced at the open door, and then back at the Avatar’s expectant upturned gaze.
…. He just had to play along. Just for a little bit, until she went to sleep. It wasn’t like he hadn’t pretended to be the Avatar’s lover before.
He hesitantly knelt by the bed and leaned forward, bypassing her mockingly puckered lips to press a chaste kiss to her forehead, right on the tip of her arrow.
Yangchen made a contented noise, and nestled into the covers, apparently, finally, ready to go to sleep. On an impulse, Kavik brushed a strand of hair out of her face.
“Goodnight, Yangchen,” he said, and left the room

> be zuko
> try desperately to ingratiate yourself within the avatar’s friend group (to no avail, of course, because you have terrible social skills, and previously tried to kill them, also)
> try to fight off the human wmd you previously hired to blow them all up
> fail miserably, because he is indestructible
> watch as sokka effortlessly kills him with a very precise boomerang throw to the brain
> suddenly recall every single time you got hit in the head by his boomerang
> feel immense gratitude for what you had previously dismissed as uncle’s obnoxiously stringent and paranoid over-emphasis on the importance of helmet safety

So! Finished Legacy Of Yangchen yesterday, and hoo boy. Here are my thoughts (spoiler warning):
amazing. awesome. 10/10
really though I think this is the best of any of the novels so far. Like I really liked the others but this one was really good
love that there was no forced romance or pointless will-they-won't they, Kavik and Yangchen *aren't at that point* (and you know might never be, we don't know) so while there's potential and a lot of chemistry (and a fake-dating plot), they don't have a big kiss moment or anything resembling a love confession - their closing interaction is a pledge of companionship. Frankly I think aang/katara should've been handled this way. But alas...
absolutely loved all the parts where it would show the present happening, get to a really tense moment, then cut away to show the build-up to that event - helped keep the suspense up while also giving the necessary set-up. Very cool.
Love Chaisee. She's horrible and I love her bc she's also really smart? And there's moments where you almost feel like she genuinely wants to help even though she's doing all this terrible stuff behind the scenes. But it never feels like inconsistent writing
That said. The fact that she supposedly invented Lake-Laogai-esque brainwashing felt a little forced yk. Like cool reference, why'd it have to be here? Now you've created questions like, how does this technique get all the way to Ba Sing Se 800 (give-or-take) years from now?
That's basically my only complaint though, and other people have covered that issue better than I could
I liked getting some more info on how combustion-bending happens, we already knew it was a rigorous training but yikesss
kalyaan also is such a cool villain. like, Avatar has done 'villain is the hero's relative' before but it's always been 'well, they're an abusive monster who'd let their family die as easily as anyone'. The scene where they got Kalyaan to confess by 'torturing' Kavik? Wouldn't have worked with Ozai or any of Korra's or Kyoshi's villains; iirc even the lady from Imbalance wasn't terribly concerned about her kids. Same goes for Chaisee and her genuine concern for her family; I liked the departure from the typical villain formula.
Absolutely cruel to kill off Nujian?? That was uncalled for. I'll be suing for emotional damages. Rude.
Jujinta my little guy <3 (i have a lot of thoughts on Jujinta but mostly I just think he's pretty cool. Would still love to know how the whole Yuyan thing works, since the Legends RPG says they were established in Roku's era a whopping six centuries or so in the future? Was archery just like a family trade until that point when they formed an Organization of it or is it just inconsistent lore?)
didn't expect Akuudan and Tayagum coming back for this book, but I'm glad they were included. Love 'em
That's about all the thoughts I have right now lol

(I decided to make a separate post for this)
I’ve seen some negative comments about Jujinta’s design on Reddit after being reposted by a user, so here is the process I went through with his look.
The Dawn of Yanchen, Chapter: Exposure:
“𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘰𝘸. 𝘑𝘶𝘫𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘱 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘪𝘧 𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵.

Jujinta was an Fire Nation marksman who took on a self-imposed exile after killing his brother. He had also taken an oath not to use a bow and arrow as it’s stated in the later quote of the book.
It implies that he could have belonged to The Yuyan Archers or part of the family of Uzuku Yuyan. Tho we don’t know if they existed in Yangchen’s Era but it was a great detail to read!
If we took a look at Yuyan Archers in Atla, they are dark-skinned and wear dark tones of red.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuyan Archers are heavily inspired by Korean history as their bow “Gak-gung" (In Korean 角弓, and English ”horn bow“). If you want to learn more about this sport, here is an interesting Page that explains more about its history!
Tumblr media
For the outfit, here are some references that I used for Jujinta’s clothes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, yes. Fire nation’s citizens are a combination of light and dark-skinned folk. A huge place with lots of different islands, therefore different groups of people. Several characters in Atla and Lok are an example of it. (Sidao, the Sun Warrior, P'li, Yuyan Archers, Combustion man among others.)
So I hope this small behind scenes of my Character design has been entertaining! I love every single character of The Dawn of Yangchen and The Kyoshi Novels. I try to portray their personalities and background in one picture as best as I can. They deserve it after all!
To my friends on Reddit: It’s art, enjoy :)
And don’t forget to read DoY!! It’s an incredible book!!
(If y'all like this, I can make more with the rest of the Team Avatar (DoY and RokSok)

After reading the Chronicles Of The Avatar books, I have come to one conclusion: F.C. Yee deserves all of the praise. Like, his books are so good. I mean, focusing on the stories of the previous avatars was just genius, but Yee did an amazing job. His writing style is so easy to get into and he balances the different tones in his books seamlessly.
The Dawn Of Yangchen is slower than The Rise Of Kyoshi and The Shadow Of Kyoshi, which normally I would complain about, but the pacing fits with the stories he's telling. The Kyoshi novels were more fast paced because Kyoshi herself is engaging in more adventure and throughout the novels, there's an underlying sense of urgency. In Yangchen's novel, the story is slower cause it's more about politics and espionage, but it never feels like the story is dragging.
The action scenes are just as engaging as the scenes where characters are just having conversations with each other. Besides everything that Yee does amazingly at-exposition, setting, detail, humor, foreshadowing, personal stakes, differentiating multiple point-of-views, character development-, my favorite thing that he writes are the characters themselves.
In the past, I've read books by the same authors who continually make their characters feel like the exact same person, but F.C. Yee makes all the characters in Chronicles Of The Avatar so uniquely different in their personalities, their mindsets, their motivations, just everything.
Yangchen is distinct from Kuruk who's distinct from Kyoshi who's distinct from Aang. They're all the same and opposites of each other, and Yee makes us root for all of them. Yangchen is a compassionate women worn-out from the cruelties of the people. We want to see her unveil the corrup politicians and make Bin-Er a better place. Kyoshi is a strong women born from tragedy and heartbreak. We want to see Kyoshi bring justice down upon Jianzhu and get her best friend back. We want to see them be the people that we know them as. But we see them be young and make mistakes and the complexities of human nature.
But it's not just the Avatars.
The companions are just as memorable. Proud, confident Kirima; brave, perfectionist Wong; brash, loyal Lek; patient, caring Jinpa; and fierce, loving Rangi. Tayagum and Akuudan being the loyal warriors, Jujinta being the unexpected fearsome ally, and Kavik being the conflicted friend turned betrayer. They all have their places where they fit and not one person feels unnecessary.
The familial units are also very interesting. Kyoshi's parents leaving her and Kelsaang picking up the slack and being her new father. Yun having Jianzhu be the one there for him to succeed (and then to die). Rangi's conflicted relationship with her mother and how her legacy affects her. Kavik's distance from his parents, and his conflict between his brother and Yangchen. Yangchen's relationship with her sister and how that affects her relationship with spirits (and everyone else).
The camaraderie and relationship growth and joy and relationship deterioration and bittersweetness and tragedy of them all.
Even the antagonists and villains feel more than one-dimensional. We see Jianzhu cause tragedy in his righteous mindset. We watch Yun turn from a hero to a villain. We witness the Shangs and Zongdus and every other corrupt person in power.
They all feel like people and not cardboard cutouts, and I applaud F.C. Yee for all that he's done.
