Random Discourse about Sakura and women:

Anime community especially MEN is wack pls I’m begging y’all just say u hate women and MOVE ON it’s getting EMBARRASSING how blatant misogyny is showing or just watch the BARBIE 2023 movie (aka feminism/the patriarchy broken down in the simplest terms possible) 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️‼️‼️

I’m an adult woman and have broken down my internalized misogyny that plagued me as a child in the anime community aka I got over the whole “Sakura is useless” thing which was lowkey funny 10 years ago but is NOW very much giving off hating women vibes.

Like as an adult I can wholeheartedly say that I do not expect men to be able to write female characters properly. Hence as a baseline all female characters r automatically considered “cool” until they prove otherwise bc ik for a fact that their faults r due to the author. Especially in anime where we’ve seen over and over again how female characters lack where their male counterparts prosper. (I’m an anthropology student and I very much want to write a dissertation on sexual repression/misogyny in Japanese culture bc I recently visited and YIKES but that’s irrelevant rn lol).

It’s very much disappointed but not surprised and I will say that in the Shounen category it’s gotten a lot better (such as chainsaw man✨chefs kiss✨ or JJK) where female characters are just like the protagonist aka normal ppl without the whole tsundere archetype that’s automatically assigned to female characters (I cannot help but think that archetype was created by men’s lack of comprehension of women eventually turning into comedic violence. Which in a meta viewpoint means that women have to be physically strong/inhibit violence in order to be a “strong” character/stand beside their male counterpart. Which is just untrue and annoying god I hate that archetype). There’s definitely been an improvement of women just being goofy and unhinged and I love that (once again Power), and I can’t help but think that Naruto was probably a big influence in that.

Say what u will about the series but Naruto was definitely a pioneer/classic archetypes for modern shounen. My babygirl Sasuke is the OG angsty-dark haired boy in a trio ft the MC and main girl, the traumatized aloof teacher, tournament arcs, etc. Part of that influence is also learning from the mistakes of the series, specifically the most prominent female character aka learning to write women from Kishimoto’s mistakes.

Idk I feel like it’s just so hard to be a woman and watch anime only bc the female characters are so lacking most of the time. Once again there have been improvements but it feels like we’re doing a “congrats u’ve done the bare minimum” or there’s themes of feminism/foreshadowing development but that’s basically dropped. For example: BNHA all the girls in 1-A have the exact same personality (minus Jirou). They’re all cheerful, bubbly, nice and it’s not bad it’s just fucking BORING like it would’ve been a lot more entertaining to have a somewhat female Bakugo or even Mirko-like personality in the class. Or ooooh give me a misunderstood MEAN GIRL (Ao No Flag QUEEN MAMI I LOVE HER SO MUCH‼️😩😩). In BNHA in the beginning there was definitely the theme of treatment of female heroes that was gonna be set up but dropped. Ex: Momo being sexualized (another discourse), Bakugo vs Uraraka and how Bakugo was being booed for not holding back on a girl, etc….

“Sakura is useless” = “blank is a better love story than Twilight” in my head….truly just say u hate teenage girls/ANY activity girls enjoy (I will never forgive ppl for making fun of girls for buying hydro flasks) and move on the conversation is tiring and BORING. Aka I love Twilight UNIRONICALLY and ironically like 7th grade me was a die hard STAN and I love that about myself which made living thru the active 2012 twilight era painful. Even my king Robert Pattinson said hating twilight isn’t cool anymore 🫡🫡🫡

Flashfoward I think I’m more than qualified to say that to ME Sakura is just okay. I will argue there’s only 4 well written female characters in Naruto (TSUNADE, KONAN, Karin and Kushina). Like even if I wasn’t a diehard SNS shipper I feel like overall she’s just aight, once again I’m kinda just neutral on her bc she’s just kinda there up until that ridiculous war arc that I semi refuse to believe exists. I have OPINIONS on the whole “new age Sannin/Team 7 dynamic” that everyone loves but feels like lazy writing.

Not saying anything to fanfic writers or Sakura Stans bc y’all do u, but I feel like it says a lot in a sad way how Sakura is shipped with every single male character in the series or how in fanfic she’s given Mokutan or part of a clan (which admittedly is very fun to think about). I can’t help but feel that she’s such a blank slate that u really CAN ship her with every character and it would somehow work. For example: could you do that to someone like Sasuke? I mean if ur a talented enough writer than SLAY but for the most part Sasuke has such a defined personality and VALUES that it’s HARD. Or Sakura is born into a clan and given a cool jutsu (which kinda disregards the point of her character: being one of the only Civilian born kids/normal person in her whole class thrown into the terrible and cruel world of Naruto and having to actually work to even SURVIVE not to mention trying to “catch up” to an Uchiha and the 9 tails). Once again fanfic writers you do you I’ll eat that shit up no cap LOL

In Tokyo Rev it’s Takemichi bc how is he a cannon folder in his own anime 😭😭😭 or maybe it’s bc everyone is horny that they gotta be Takemichi to get with one of the boys in fanfic LOLL😵‍💫😵‍💫

WIPs and stuff, again

I haven't been feeling much better but my mood inspired me to start a new painting and after these silent months, I feel like sharing some progress and WIPs of my current Molluck works which I have been doing slowly.

First, here's this new painting I mentioned:

Even the theme of this is not the most pleasant for me, I have still really enjoyed painting this and playing with colours. Gotta still refine stuff.

I have been thinking about painting this scene for some time but my mood and own pain made me finally start this painting. In both Abe's Oddysee and New 'n' Tasty, we don't see Molluck getting his scars, and in NnT, we don't even see his clothing getting burnt! So, I wanted to reimagine this scene but well, Molluck's design is also different now. Even I feel bad for him, I still laugh at AO's version of this cutscene because I love Abe's reaction after seeing him naked. Oh, and thanks to this scene, we also know what like he looks like naked (in 3D)! (Y)

Since I mentioned naked Molluck, you might remember my Molluck sculpt WIP and here's the current state of it:

There is still a lot to do here but he is now more refined and accurate. I wanna keep his body close to the original/official versions but he is basically a mixture of different models and my little additions. For example, those hands are based on the original concept art since those are the best hands! So yeah, he is basically made from the most appealing pieces... I can't help myself... This Gluk is just much like made for me...

So often, when I do my works, they tend to seem like crap at first but I just keep doing them and after some time, all that work is really paid off. So, don't give up:

This 'nightmare Molluck' is the oldest WIP I have of this. Hopefully you didn't get the 'Abe moment' after seeing this... I have never sculpted anything like this before... You gotta start from somewhere!

The last WIP stuff I show you also shows well the progress of how my paintings tend to develop:

You might remember this from my previous post. Still gotta refine some stuff here. My brain kinda wants to call this piece a 'Barbie Molluck'... Um, for some months, I have had such an idea on my mind too... Do a Molluck version of the Barbie girl song... Don't ask me why, I don't know either but I love the idea! Yeah, I haven't forgotten those Molluck dubs. I still imitate him like on daily basis... So many ideas but I try to do my ideas and projects as much as I can and feel like. I'm also about to continue my Molluck game since it would truly be a shame if I don't finish it.

Soon, it's also gonna be the second anniversary since I drew my first Molluck, so gonna see how I have improved in drawing this cutie! [Edit: Felt too depressed for that.] So yeah, my Molluck thing is still going strong even I haven't been so productive. He is my beloved Gluk and no character has felt so much like me than him... Like I have already said out loud, he is the most attractive thing for me... Thanks OWI!

Maybe all this love I have for him made me to win that tattoo competition too... It still feels like a miracle... I thought that it was nothing like they wanted and looked crappy, was about to delete my entry... This is the struggle my self-hatred does to me... It will still take months before I really get help to this but in the meantime, I try to keep myself alive to the next day, try to enjoy life, do the stuff I like... And Molluck is still very important to me, 'mah baby', like I call him sometimes... He is not perfect, has his problems and flaws but that just makes him more lovable to me!

I'm glad if you truly enjoy all this Molluck stuff I do! I never expect that the stuff I do is anything special and especially with this self-hatred... It's more difficult to be a content creator when your inner critic is so loud... But I'm trying my best to learn to love myself even I know that it's gonna take a lot of time. I don't wanna give up even it has been on my mind many times... I have been in such dark waters... But I gotta keep Molluck on my mind since he is one of those things that give me strength to keep going thru this mental hell. I don't wanna be stuck in here... Even Molluck got his life ruined, he just kept going. And well, even the name of my tattoo was 'Don't give up!', so I must just keep going; this is gonna end one day.

I know that it can be somehow heavy to follow someone who has these problems but I wanna be honest and wish that I could be a story with a happy ending.

Nezha Reborn (2021)

@earl-of-221b Finally watched New Gods: Nezha Reborn! Honestly? It’s a lot better than I expected it to be lol. A solid 3.5/5 from me. I do think some story elements could have been tighter and it’s not as solid a script as Nezha 2019, but it works as its own thing so it’s worth a watch for anyone already interested in fengshen lore. Plus a jttw cameo!

This is going to be a super incoherent “review” lol but I’ll just run through my thoughts. Firstly, I loved Li Yunxiang’s character. He could easily have been an emo bad boy with a heart of gold or whatever, but he wasn’t! He was just this temperamental young man trying his best. A little cocky sometimes, but always has his heart in the right place, always willing to do the right thing. Not like, super unique as a character, but someone we root for. He’s flawed, he’s handsome, he’s compassionate 10/10 character arc

Especially love how he came to understand Nezha, and how they became one in the end. This version of Nezha is legit so tragic. A misunderstood child who had to wait 3000 years until his own reincarnation looked at him and went, ‘I get it. I am you. We’re better than this. We can do it.” The flashbacks were so sad omg, but somehow that made Li Yunxiang’s reconciliation with him more moving.

FUCK Ao bing. I knew he’d be evil but wow, WOW. That kitten was so cute. That kitten was my favorite character. And Ao Bing killed it!? FUCK HIM. Thinking about that kitten makes me want to pull his spine out for the third time. That said, Ao Bing’s character as an evil hotshot asshole works and is pretty in-line with how he’s usually depicted lol. Also a pretty balanced blend of cockiness and insecurity. Like, I loved to hate him lmao

Evil CEO Ao Guang is a silver fox dilf and I have no regrets saying that. Man has no redeeming qualities besides being the oldest piece of eye candy this entire film has. But the gangster suit, hat, grey hair combo awakened something inside me. That said, his character was kinda one-note. Like, just statically evil without much explanation. And like earl said, it was very jarring to see him treat Ao Bing so badly while also justifying killing Nezha for Ao Bing, and then not cared when Nezha killed Ao Bing. Like what was going on here

Six Eared Macaque had me screaming though. He was so bouncy and was probably the only character whose face matched his voice idk LOL Probably the best animated character, and one of the best characters in general. Had stronger characterization than Ao Guang and all the side characters combined.

I was so SHOCKED when it turned out he was SUN WUKONG disguising himself as Six Ear. What kind of next level inception asdfasdf spent a whole minute losing it over Wukong committing identity theft by stealing the identity of the monkey that stole HIS identity 3000+ years ago. It’s such a funny thing to do, like he could have been anyone but he chose Six Ear LMAO I’m convinced it was out of pettyness and dark humor (because this Wukong seems to have had a hard life).

Anyway, once the Six Ear disguise came off, I was pretty impressed by how “mature” and world weary they made Wukong without losing any of the monkey energy.

What else? Oh right, the BODY COUNT. There was a death and/or attempted murder every 5 minutes. One of Li Yunxiang’s friends or family was always in the hospital from some critical injury in every scene omg. Kasha straightup losing her leg was a shocker. so was that dude trying to suffocate Six (hello??). Then the brother almost died and lived. So OLD LI died. And of course that’s when he reconciles with his son lmao. Like, our boy cannot catch a break in this.

Lastly, the post credits scene with Erlang Shen in the 1930s tuxedo also awakened something in me. Because I’m positive he has a 3rd eye under that hat. But also, the outfit, the dog and ball, Yang Jian shows up for 0.2 seconds and he’s all I can think about again adfasdf I paused the movie just to stare at him to make sure this was a thing that was happening.

Legit criticisms: Sometimes I felt like I was watching a video game instead of a movie. Namely when some of the more realistic looking people started talking or moving- it was just weirdly stiff and uncanny? And the voices didn’t quite match the mouths. Also wasn’t fond of how all the female characters looked like barbie doll waifus lol but that’s about it.

B7 fic where Harry gets kidnapped by aliens and B'elanna and Seven have to go undercover on the planet to save him. Featuring lots of bickering, them getting imprisoned, and them being forced to address the root of their issues with each other to escape and rescue Harry. Very loosely inspired by Barbie: A Fairy Secret

A full length version of that post I made where we see each member of the Niners go to a baseball game with Benjamin. Also featuring Imaginary!Buck Bokai bc while I didn't like the episode as a whole, those were interesting aliens and I'm disappointed we never got to see them again

Rom comes out as nonbinary, almost everyone is supportive and good with it, but Quark keeps making mistakes. We get a parallel where Nog threatens to burn down the bar if Quark stands in the way of his parent's happiness

Short and fluffy Seven/Raffi where Seven muses about how much she loves her while lying next to a sleeping Raffi. Quotes Sappho

Julian talks to various crew members after he gets outed as genetically engineered. May include a conversation with Miles about why it's okay for him specifically to call him Jules, but that may also be it's own fic

Quasi-quodo fic where Quark had feelings for Odo and was working on getting over his internalized stuff so that he could actually talk to Odo about it, but then Odo was too busy fucking for 3 days and nearly got Quark's brother killed and now Quark has to deal with that. Featuring Quark forming a genuine friendship with Nerys bc they're the only people who were really close to Odo and fully understand how fucked up this is to deal with emotionally. Featuring Leeta punching Odo and telling him to stay away from her family

Rejoined... 2! Since ds9 has the distinction of both being next to a stable wormhole and being the last place in the Alpha Quadrant Voyager was seen, when Starfleet commissions the Trill Science Ministry to look into ways to use a stable wormhole to bring Voyager home, Lenara and her team relocate permanently to ds9. We have a parallel where Kira and Ezri have the same conversation Benjamin and Jadzia had warning about Lenara coming. May or may not end with them getting together, but definitely at least featurs Ezri realizing she's a lesbian

Aos!Kirk/Spock/Uhura get together. Takes place after Beyond while Spock and Uhura are still broken up; they talk about why they broke up, speak frankly about their feelings, and decide together to ask Jim into the relationship

Honestly? Might steal @8daysuntiltheapocalypseiguess 's Dean Winchester writes Star Trek fanfiction and do Tom Paris writes Supernatural fanfiction to figure out his gender. Would NOT be the same format, I do not know how Elle does that, they're a god amongst men

Fandom: Star Trek AOS. Pairing: Leonard McCoy X Reader. Prompt: Shopping (For Fun). Rating: All ages. Words: 1366.

"We need to get out of this heat,” you whine as another bead of sweat trickles down your spine. “This weather is unreal.”

Leonard agrees wholeheartedly as he drains the last few remaining mouthfuls of water from the bottle he’s holding.

The two of you are ambling leisurely down a bustling street in your home town on shore leave, checking out the shops before you’re due at your parents’ for dinner. You’ve already had three bottles of water and an ice cream, and you’re still far too warm for your liking. It’s the end of July and you swear the sun has somehow moved closer to the Earth and is scorching everything it’s touching. There’s no breeze to speak of and the air near the pavement is shimmering with heat. You’re covered head to toe in sunscreen, but it’s doing nothing at all to cool you off, even if it is keeping you from burning to a crisp.

“In here,” Leonard say with a tug on the hand of yours he’s holding.

You notice he’d holding open a door and you don’t even know what kind of a store you’re stepping in to but you don’t care. Moving past him, you walk into the shop and glance around, taking in your surroundings as the blessed chill of an air conditioner licks at your overly warm skin.

Everywhere you look, ancient-looking mirrors, bird cages, and other miscellaneous items adorn tables and walls. There’s a grandfather clock in the corner that’s taller than Leonard, and behind the counter sits an elderly gentleman dressed like Oliver Twist with a linen shirt the color of parchment and a pair of brown slacks. He smiles at the two of you, sympathetic to your plight, and goes back to reading the old book on the counter before him, leaving you and Leonard to look around.

“No, you’re too warm,” you complain as Leonard steps up, pressing his chest to your back and running his palms down your bare, sun-kissed arms.

“Sorry, sugar,” he says with a chuckle, giving you some space.

“We’re in an antique shop,” you muse aloud, ignoring his apology. “I love little places like this!”

You’re grinning brightly as you step forward, wandering down the nearest makeshift aisle and stopping in front of a display of pocket watches. Their cases are ornately carved and etched with various designs and some of the silver ones have tarnished a little with age, but they’re still beautiful. Pointing to one near the front of the case, you glance over your shoulder at Leonard.

“You would look so dapper pulling one of these out of your pocket if someone asked you for the time,” you say softly.

“My dad used to have a watch like that,” Leonard murmurs. “He gave it to me before he died but I left it with my ma for safe keeping when I joined Starfleet.”

You meet his gaze with a sympathetic one of your own, reaching up to squeeze his bicep as he reminisces a little. The moment passes quickly, however, and Leonard steps past you to look at a beautiful old Tiffany lamp standing nearby. As he admires its colors and design, you make a beeline for a section at the back of the shop reserved for antique toys.

There were all sorts of lovely, colorful items to look at: a faded lime green pogo stick, well-loved roller skates, a beautifully restored wooden rocking horse, and porcelain dolls in all sizes and styles. You carefully pick one up, straightening its old-fashioned dress and smoothing down its silken hair. It’s exquisitely crafted and you don’t realize how enthralled you are until Leonard’s sudden appearance at your side startles the living daylights out of you and you wind up nearly dropping the doll.

“Don’t do that!” You admonish. “You nearly scared me half to death!”

Leonard chuckles and reaches around you, running his fingers over the doll’s pinafore for a moment, admiring its craftsmanship.

“It reminds me of the dolls I used to collect as a kid,” you reminisce.

“What kind of dolls?” Leonard asks.

“They were called Barbie dolls,” you answer wistfully, setting the doll back on its display. “They were popular in the mid to late twentieth and early twenty first centuries. They were a lot smaller than these dolls and they sort of faded out of existence after the third wave of feminism called the company producing them out on their unrealistic and frankly insulting portrayal of the female body. Still, they were fun to have around. I used to love brushing their hair and changing their outfits.”

You don’t notice the shopkeeper moving closer until he’s practically on top of the pair of you, smiling brightly and holding a faded pink box in his hands. He holds it out to you with the clear plastic panel facing him so you’re not sure what exactly is in it, but you recognize the brand name scrawled on the top lid.

“I think you might like this,” he says warmly. “She’s a special one.”

You gratefully accept the box and turn it around, grinning widely as you take in the doll, clad in an old-style space suit, holding a pink flag with a tiny planet Earth on it.

“A 1994 Astronaut Barbie!” You exclaim excitedly. “I don’t have one of these!”

Glancing up at the shopkeeper’s kind, smiling face, you bite your lip.

“Can I take her out?” You ask, not unlike a child might.

“Of course,” he replies. “Someone with a fondness as deep as yours for these dolls will no doubt be good to her.”

You nod enthusiastically and set the box down, carefully prying it open without damaging any of the flaps and pulling the plastic tray out from within it. You hold the tray in one hand and carefully undo the wire twist ties holding the doll in place with the other, pulling them out and setting them aside as you finally free her from her confines.

“I love her,” you say in a hushed tone. “She’s perfect. She would fit right in with my other ones.”

As you smooth down her hair and run your fingertips over the insignia on her uniform, you don’t realize that Leonard is watching you, his heart bursting with fondness for you. As the minutes pass by, you know you’ll have to put her back soon but you really don’t want to let her go. You’re just about to ask how much she’s going to cost you when Leonard puts a hand on your shoulder.

“Pack her up, sweetheart,” he says softly. “We’re going to be late for dinner.”

Nodding, you look around for the shopkeeper but he seems to have disappeared from view. With a sad smile, you put the doll back in her box and carefully twist the ties holding everything together back into place.

“Can you please find that nice gentleman for me?” You ask. “I need to have her, Len. I’m buying her.”

Leonard smiles and leans in to press a gentle kiss to your lips. Your heart flutters at the display of affection and your hands fumble with the flaps on the box as you move to close it all up again, having slid the plastic tray into place.

“No you’re not,” Leonard says lightly. “Because I’ve already bought her for you.”

You nearly drop the box in surprise as you gape at him.

“Seriously?!” You gasp.

Leonard laughs in that rich baritone of his and nods, clapping you on the shoulder.

“Seriously,” he replies.

You set the box down on the counter and throw your arms around him, pulling him into a tight embrace and burying your face in his chest.

“Thank you,” you murmur appreciatively.

“Anything for my baby girl,” Leonard replies, pressing a kiss into your hair. “Now come on, we need to get going or we really are going to be late for dinner.”

Pulling away from him, you pick up the box with one hand, holding it close to your chest, and hook your free arm through his. Together the two of you walk back out into the unrelenting heat with love in both of your hearts.
