i will never not find it funny that the watermelon began as a symbol of Jewish self determination and Israeli nationhood in the 1940s. every time i see a self important goy comment a bunch of watermelon emojis on a post of a Jewish person existing I think “do they know they are using a symbol of Jewish indigineity and socialist/labor Zionism?”

if u had handed me this dialogue at the beginning of the season with no context and asked me who was speaking i would 100% have said this was a convo between tom and greg. which makes the truth of who it is even more devastating/delicious/insane.
"you know, you should be careful, [x]"
"why?"
"these people are coming down from molly, and their pupils? They’re dilated. and your shoes are like looking at the sun."
*scoffs*
"no, they’re dangerous." *kicks dirt onto shoes*
"what are you doing? what are you doing?"
"i’m helping you, [x]. this is why people don’t take you seriously, ‘cause your shoes are so fucking white."
*flicks ear*
(gasps) "ow!"
"your earlobes are thick and chewy."
"what the fuck?"
"yeah, like barnacle meat."

So I’ve heard people talking about the US intelligence officer who tweeted about how a “lone-wolf Hamas attack” in the US would turn people against the Palestinian cause, and I’ve heard a lot of people say what we’re all thinking: it’s pretty grim that we live in a world where countries frequently blast their crimes out to everyone with 0 shame.
I’d like to also offer an alternative look at this though: while a lot of the time people scoff that countries are so stupid to openly say the terrible things they’re going to do, that’s very purposeful.
There is a very heavy element of demoralisation going on. The point of broadcasting and doubling down publicly like this is to tell people that their complaints have been heard and discarded, that they have no power, that they cannot change things. It’s to drive people to the point where they feel so hopeless about a cause that they give up and go home.
A lot of people forget that nations don’t just use psychological warfare against enemy combatants. They use it against enemy civilians, they use it against their own civilians, they feed it into media, they accidentally “leak” it onto your social media feed.
Be aware. And also be very suspicious of sources and people who push the angle of hopelessness. Ask yourself: why? Are they saying this cause as a whole is hopeless, or are they saying the action currently being taken is hopeless? What’s their reasoning? Are they advocating for a different plan of attack, or are they advocating to drop it altogether?
(I will put the aforementioned tweet below a cut for context!)

just thinking about some math.
there are currently ~2.2 million people in Gaza. yesterday, for the first time in two weeks, 20 aid trucks came in through the Rafah Border Crossing.
today, an additional 17 aid trucks came in, bringing the total to 37.
keep in mind that before this, no aid was allowed into Gaza for a full two weeks.
according to this article from The Guardian, which is worth a read imo, before this ~500 aid trucks used to come into Gaza per DAY.
so let’s do the math, shall we?
2,200,000 people/37 aid trucks = 59,459.459 (repeating) people needing to be helped with EVERYTHING (food, water, medical supplies, etc) after not getting anything for two weeks per ONE (1) truck.
almost SIXTY THOUSAND (60,000) PEOPLE PER TRUCK.
and everyone is patting themselves on the back talking about how this is a win for humanitarian aid and such, as if this makes any of what is happening better. like yes, obviously this is better than nothing, but is it really enough?
✨current math, everyone✨

this is a reminder to not use tarot as a crutch!
tarot and oracle cards are ofc helpful tools, but it also important to go back to the basics sometimes!
try closing your eyes and meditating or focusing on your question or topic and see what images pop out in your mind! what do you hear? what do you feel?
all of those senses and intuition is the most powerful tool you have, and it’s with those things that tarot is done.
tarot is a tool, not the end all be all.

i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn’t have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.

Yes, Greece still exists, we didn't all die 2000 years ago. Yes, people speak Greek. You people are so fucking stupid for real. So many of you claim to love ancient shit but can't even acknowledge the actual living culture of the people whose mythology and classics you romanticize. You keep leaving annoying comments about how you just forget Greek people still exist, thinking you're being quirky because you love ancient stuff soooo much that you forgot about the people it came from. You think about it so little you don't even realize that an actual Greek person has to read this shit, making it clear how little you actually care about the culture beyond the romanticized (and westernized) mythology. Don't claim you love Greece, don't use our mythology anymore if you can't acknowledge that we're still around without making it about how little you think about us. It's mind boggling that you'd think a Greek person would read this and think you're anything but obnoxious. Explode.

i know ryoko kui is a real one because she wrote 97+ chapters of a manga about fantasy ecosystems and food chains and not once did she write the phrase "survival of the fittest" (it's a bad phrase) (it's a social darwinist phrase even) (hated amongst biologists) (doesn't make sense) (darwin didn't use it) (coined by an business major) (one of the worst phrases in pop science) (no good)

Nothing will dispell the "the curtains were just blue" myth faster than writing something yourself, because the amount of pretentious symbolism i am putting in my silly little fanfics is ridiculous. I mean SO much with these words, literally every single one of them. This fic has twenty five typos and zero correct uses of punctuation but if there's curtains you bet your ass I put thought into what colour they were.

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

what is with men being mad any time a woman raises her voice where did that even come from. someone posted a video of a small electrical explosion, and the top comment was of course the woman screams. the second comment is women try not to scream challenge, level impossible. i had to go back and watch the video again. there is, somewhat fainty, a little gasp emitted off-camera, more of a yelp than a scream. it is mostly lost in the crack of the explosion. afterwards, you hear her voice, shaken, say, are you okay?
i am helping one of my friends train her voice pitch lower, because she wants to be taken seriously at work. she and i do each other's nails and talk about gender roles; and how - due to our appearance - neither of us have ever been able to be "hysterical" in public. we both appear young and sweet and feminine. she is cisgender, and cannot use her natural voice in her profession because people keep saying she appears to be "vapid". we both try to figure out if our purposeful voice lowering is technically sexist. is it promoting something when you are a victim to it?
a storm almost sends a pole through a car window. in the dashcam, you can hear the woman passenger say her partner's name twice, crying out in alarm. she sounds terrified. in the comments, she is lambasted for her lack of calm. how is that even fucking helping?
in high school, i taught myself to have a lower voice. i had been recorded when i was genuinely (and righteously) upset; and i hated how my voice sounded on the phone speakers when it was played back. i was defending my mom, and my voice cracked with emotion. it meant i was no longer winning the argument: i was just shrieking about it.
girls meet each other after a long summer and let out a little joyful scream. this usually stops around 12-14, because people will not tolerate this display of affection (as it has the effect of being passingly annoying). something about the fact that little girls can't ever even be annoying. we are trained to examine each part of our lives (even joy) for anything that could make us upsetting and disgusting. they act like teenage girls are breaking into houses and shrieking you awake at 3 in the morning. speaking as a public school educator: trust me, it's not that bad, you can just roll your eyes and move on. it does not compare to the ways boys end up being annoying: slurs in graffiti, purposefully mocking your body, following you after you said no. you know, just boy things.
there's another video of a man who is not allowed to yell in the house, so he snaps his fingers when he's excited about soccer. the comments are full of angry men, talking about how their brother is unfairly caged. let him express himself and this is terrible to do to someone. eventually the couple has to address it in a second video: they are married with a newborn baby. he was trying not to wake the infant up. there is no comment on the fact women are not allowed to yell indoors. or the fact that it could have been really alarming or triggering for his wife. sometimes i wonder if straight men even like women, if they even enjoy being in relationships with them.
for the longest time, i hated roller coasters because it always felt inappropriate and uncomfortable for me to scream. one of my friends called me on it, said it was unusual i'm so unwilling. i had to go to my therapist about it. i don't like to scream because i was not raised in a safe situation, and raising my voice would have brought unsafe attention towards me. even when i am supposed to scream, it feels shameful, guilty. i was not treated kindly, so i lack a basic form of self-protection. this is not a natural response. it is not good that in a situation of high adrenaline - i shut up about it.
something very bad is happening, i think. in between all the beauty standards and the stuff i've already discussed - this one feels new and cruel in a way i can't quite express. yes, it's scary and silencing. but there's something about how direct it is - that so many men agree with the sentiment that women should never yell, even in an emergency - it feels different.
is the word shriek gendered automatically? how about shrill or screech? in self defense class, one of the first things they tell you is to yell, as loud and as shrilly as you can. they say it will feel rude. most women will not do this. you need to practice overcoming the social pressure and just scream.
most women do not cry out, even when it's bad. we do not report it. we walk faster. we do not make a scene. what would be the point of doing anything else? no matter what we do, we don't get taken seriously. it is a joke to them. an instagram caption punchline. we have to present ourselves as silent, beautiful, captivating - "valuable."
a woman is outside watching her kids when someone throws a firecracker at them. she screams and runs towards her children. in the comments, grown men flock together in the thousands: god. women are so annoying.

trans women are everywhere and are so eager to be seen and heard but only if they feel safe around you. if you hardly ever have trans women interacting with you, especially online, then consider there might be a reason for that and you should address it
