I hope u guys know i don’t head canon Shuu as autistic bc he’s obsessive. I fully see all the other symptoms in hims as well. From being very loud at ✨ inappropriate ✨ times, being generally bad in social situations (he has rizz but tbh i think he’s just attractive and has some comprehension of masking. Also think kaneki is just a little stupid in the gourmet arc), frequent meltdowns and poor emotional regulation, taking things at face value. Maybe his use of different languages is like a vocal stim. I headcanon him as having eating disorders, and that often interacts with autism. I don’t think he has sensory issues with food, but i think eating things that he doesn’t see as gourmet could have the same effect as an orthorexic eating food that’s ’not healthy enough’ - so a kind of physical reaction in my experience.

There are probably other things as well. I was fortunate enough to be diagnosed with autism when I was 14, so just to clarify when I say I think Shuu is autistic I don’t just mean he’s obsessive or hyper fixates. Obviously my experience with my autism is different from everyone else’s, (same goes for my headcanoning him with bpd, eating disorders, etc), so ofc others might disagree. That’s ok! These are all just my head canons I use to cope personally.

am i even me? or am i just a dozen circumstances aligning? is my consciousness truly individual or is it a coalescence of billions of cells in a trenchcoat, tricked into believing its it can think? a temporary signal established in the noise. the briefest of faces emerging from the static before fading back into chaos forever.

they say we are all stardust. they say stardust is atoms and quarks and strings. they say that energy is matter and matter is energy and energy is information. and they say that information can never die.

I think it’s kind of interesting the way that a lot of times when people are trying to problematise a piece of media it really says more about their own unexamined biases and prejudices than about the media itself. It’s not an original thought but a lot of discourse in fandom is just people trying to intellectualise their own personal discomfort with a topic or depiction and I think it’s kind of counterproductive if your first reaction to a work of art which is trying to provoke some kind of emotional reaction in you is to try to neutralise it in this way. A lot of the time it feels like a barrier to actual critical engagement with what a work of art is trying to say or what questions it’s asking you to consider (or even what questions it could prompt you to consider without meaning to), and a work of art or piece of media does not actually have to be perfectly unproblematic to be able to do that. tbrh I don’t know if there is an ‘unproblematic’ or unconfronting way of dealing with the whole complex reality of a topic like abuse. Abuse is kind of inherently problematic by nature. And I think maybe instead of immediately trying to shift the blame to a piece of media for the feelings you’re experiencing and the difficulty you’re having resolving them a better approach is to sit with them for a while and try to figure out what you personally really think and believe.
