#idk if i've talked about it on here but #i've always found it super fascinating how the writers are partially to blame for the better boyfriend olympics or whatever it was called #and how a lot of their decisions directly resulted in fan response to blaine/klaine particularly the rise in antis #obv it's not entirely the writers' fault #but rewatching the show years after it ended makes pretty clear why there was so much tension and in-fighting and how that all came to be #honestly in this regard the writers kind of doomed blaine from the start? #the way things played out in s1 and the writing in s2 and onward is really telling #i can't say for sure if this would've happened had things been done differently but i have a feeling it wouldn't have #the romanticization of s2 klaine and the fairly popular belief that things went downhill afterward is just.....so interesting #bc i feel like so many factors combined to create that perspective and it really is a perfect storm if you think about it

"klaine was good in s2 but then they became toxic and annoying" definitely belongs on my Top 5 Worst Glee Takes list, like i'm sorry that you only want unproblematic characters and couples and can't handle fictional characters having flaws that ruin your completely sanitized and boring queer rep 🥴

i am nowhere near the mental capacity required to participate in nanowrimo, but i am attempting to embrace the energy on a smaller scale by actually following through and publishing fanfiction by the end of this month

the juxtaposition of blaine and kurt's arcs in s2 go crazy like #KlaineOTP yeah yeah whatever but they're actually so.

blaine admits that he feels like he ran away from his bullies instead of dealing with them when he transferred to dalton (even though being at dalton for the security & being content there is a 100% acceptable reaction to what blaine went through)

kurt seeks safety at dalton but ultimately leaves because he didn't feel as connected with the warblers & felt like his self expression (like fashion, which he valued so much that he risked getting perceived as gay & consequently beat up for it at mckinley, or his individualistic attitude) was stifled

blaine uses his blazer like a shield; insert commentary about conformity, the tight-knit warbler community & how important it is to blaine here... blaine, who loves & thrives in the limelight but also values the ability to the blend in if he wants to

blaine is willing to go to prom with kurt after initial reservations but is hesitant about kurt having a flashy outfit. ends up being the one to walk up to kurt in front of everyone and offer a hand to dance with him. i will literally never get over this one

blaine tells kurt that he moved schools to be with him (total manic pixie dream girl move, probably lazy writing)

but on a meta narrative level i also think it was kurt's bravery that inspired blaine to face his past demons and step outside of the safe walls of dalton, even if it means giving up a safe, easy pathway throughout high school (he's not running away from his problems anymore)
