To He, Who Hung the Stars: Ch 5

Late Nights

Everynight after Sadara has been put to sleep Sasuke and Sakura lay in bed every night and stay up into the late hours of the night chatting with each other; about Sakura’s new research project, how fast Sarada continues to grow, their friends and comrades, or their days in general. However there’s a certain heaviness that hangs in the air tonight, because in roughly 12 hours Sasuke will leave on a mission to find clues leading to the Otsutsuki, taking him away from his family for an unknown amount of time. 

Based on the discussion during the kage summit, last week, this will be no small endeavor, the likelihood of him being gone for many years is high. Not to mention the very nature of this being highly confidential means only a handful of people can know of his assignments and whereabouts.

Sakura currently lays in bed on her side, facing the wall, having gotten ready for bed ahead of her husband while he finishes packing in the living room. She needed a moment by herself, letting the realization settle in.

She hears the bedroom door creek open before it’s shut again, the edge of the bed dips, and Sasuke slips underneath the covers. Neither one says anything, letting silence loom between them, unsure of what to say or where to start. Sasuke moves closer, placing his hand on her bicep and running it down her arm to her hand, interlacing their fingers.

“Tsuma,” he says softly. “Do you regret this?”

“Hm?” she hums, turning her head and furrowing her eyebrows. “What do you mean?” 

“Being with me,” he explains. Shifting around, Sakura faces him fully, seeing his lips pulled into a frown and features expressing his inner guilt. She places her free palm on his cheek, rubbing her thumb against his soft skin. It’s been weighing on his mind, Sakura has been able to tell in the way he holds her tighter when they’re alone within the space of their room, the extra bits of affection he’s been giving since he was assigned the mission, and shows her how the love he holds still burns with a fiery passion.

“I will never regret being with you,” she says in earnest. “There’s no one else I’d rather share my life with. I can’t say that I don’t wish you didn’t have to go, but I know you’re doing this for us, to protect Sarada’s future.” 

It’s unfortunate that it has to be him who takes on this mission, but being someone with the Rinnegan and having the ability to travel between dimensions, Sasuke is the only one who can do this. They all have their parts to play in ensuring the next generation can continue to live in peaceful times, Sasuke protects them from outside dangers whereas Sakura runs the hospitals inside the village to keep them healthy and in good shape. 

“We won’t be physically together, but our feelings will still be connected,” she continues. “No matter how far apart we may be, that will never change. We’ll miss you of course, but you and I can still write to each other. Just be sure to actually send those letters this time,” she smiles, hoping her words managed to ease any of his lingering worries.

“I will,” he smirks, sharing her sentiments, before resting his forehead against hers. “Thank you, Sakura, for everything. For giving me everything.”

“I should be saying that to you,” she tells him. “Thank you, Sasuke-kun, for always protecting us.”

...Shuu-san. Is there a reason why you chose not to leave that place up till now? 

Shuu: ...Not really. 

Yui: ...

Shuu: It’s just...He introduced himself as my sibling, remember? 

In that case...I figured it’d be best to let him know. 

Yui: ...Let him know? 

Shuu: Exactly. If that Kino guy is really the Old Man’s kid, then... ーー 

...No, it’s nothing. 

Yui: ...

( He dodged the question again... )

Shuu: I’m pretty sure he purposefully let us escape. 

Yui: Eh...?

Shuu: I could sense strong magical powers from him. If he actually tried his hardest, I’m pretty sure I would have struggled a bit more. 

Yui: ...Why would he do that? 

Shuu: Beats me. It’s just...

...The fact that Kino came for us might all be part of the Old Man’s plan as well. 

Yui: Karlheinz-san’s...? 

Shuu: I’m pretty sure that him choosing me as his successor isn’t something positive...

For some reason, his true objectives remain hidden...

Yui: His true objectives...

Shuu: Back then, when I inherited his powers...

When I told him he shouldn’t come and complain to me afterwards, he smiled. 

Yui: Couldn’t it be...that he was genuinely happy knowing that you would follow in his footsteps...?

Shuu: No. There’s no way. I’m sure there’s something behind it...

It’s been on my mind this whole time. 

To be honest, I haven’t learnt to control these powers at all. Just keeping them in check so I don’t go rampant is taking me everything I have. 

That’s why I have no other choice but to remain in the human world like this. As a result, things have been running rampant in the Demon World. Even the Vibora...

Shuu: The Old Man was capable of foreseeing the future. I’m sure he knew that this would happen. 

So why...?

Yui: ( Shuu-san... )

Monologue

The root of Shuu-san’s worries,

lay with his powers after all. 

Shuu-san is suspicious, 

of what Karlheinz-san’s motives may be. 

While I would have loved to be able to tell him,

that he is simply overthinking it all,

I felt that no matter what an outsider such as myself said,

and it wouldn’t mean anything right now.

*TIMESKIP*

ー The scene shifts to the living room of the Sakamaki manor

Shuu: ...We’re back. 

Reiji: ...Shuu! You finally returned home. 

Shuu: ...Yeah. We ran into some minor trouble. 

Anyway, why are you guys here? 

Yuma: Aah? We came for ya, obviously!? 

But no, mister here just had to let his ass get kidnapped...

Reiji: Well, either way, we’re glad that you are safe. We must set out to the Demon World soon, or we’ll be late to the Summit with the Vibora...

Shuu: ...About thatーー 

*HISS*

Yui: Kyaah!

( There’s a snake inside the manor...! )

Reiji: ...Oh dear? When you speak of the Devil. Seems like one of the Vibora’s Familiars is here. What is it you need...?

*Rustle*

Shuu: ...Give me that letter right now. 

*Flip* 

Shuu: ...

Yuma: ...Is somethin’ wrong?

Yui: Shuu-san...?

*Crumble*

Shuu: ...A war is starting in the Demon World. The Vibora are stating they will fight us.

Yui: ...!

Subaru: The fuck do you mean!?

Shuu: Seems like the letter I sent the other day...never actually reached them. 

They interpreted my lack of a response as a declaration of war. It has the Vibora King, Zweig’s signature on it, so there’s no questioning it.

...Kino is behind this. 

Yui: Kino-kun is...?

Shuu: Yes. He said that the Summit would not be taking place, because he knew that my letter was never delivered to the Vibora. 

He probably prevented it himself...

Yui: ( Ah... )

ー Yui recalls his words

Kino: Oh come on, why not? No need to rush, we’ve got all the time in the world.

The summit with the Vibora won’t happen anyway, you see?

Yui: ( So Kino-kun stole the letter from the Familiar and prevented its delivery...? )

Reiji: How could this happen...!

Yui: Then, he captured us because...?

Shuu: Not sure. I guess he wanted to buy some time...

Reiji: ...I see. In other words, we’ve been had. How could I let this happen...

I was so focused on what had happened to the two of you, the possiblity of this happening did not even cross my mind. 

Shuu: ...It’s not your fault, is it?

Anyway, I’ll send one of my Familiars to Zweig right away. Although it might be too late already.

Yuma: Wait. 

Shuu: ...What? 

Yuma: I doubt sendin’ a Familiar will do ya any good at this point. Ya might just get sabotaged again after all.

Reiji: That is true, but we have not a second to lose. 

Yuma: Exactly. That’s why I’ll go instead. 

Shuu: ...

Azusa: You will...?

Yuma: Yeah. I mean, it might be better if the NEET went by himself but...

To be honest, I feel things could get sticky ‘cause of those powers. Anyway, I’ll get goin’ right away.

Shuu: ...Wait. I can’t ask that from you...

Yuma: ...Oi. Don’t get the wrong idea now. I’m not doin’ this for ya or anythin’. 

If ya don’t get yer shit together and do somethin’ ‘bout those powers of yers, Eden’s gonna get messed up. 

To us as a family, Eden is like our second home after all. 

So don’t bother worryin’ ‘bout unnecessary shit and just focus on gainin’ control over yer powers. Gotcha? 

Yui: ( Yuma-kun... )

Shuu: ...

Yuma: ...Hah. Seems like someone’s not on board with the idea.

Guess I have no other choice. Could ya guys step out for a bit? I wanna talk with the guy in private. 

Ayato: Haah? Why are you over here orderin’ us ‘round in our own home!?

Yuma: Oh fuck off! What’s the big deal!? Come on, you too. 

Yui: Yeah. Sure...

( I can leave this up to him, right...? )

*TIMESKIP*

Yuma: Phew. Everyone finally left, huh...?

Shuu: What’s the plan? Why would you go to the Vibora’s castle...?

Yuma: Didn’t ya hear me earlier? I want to protect Eden, that’s all. 

Eden is like a mirror reflectin’ its owner’s mind. That’s why we need ya to get yer emotions in check.

Shuu: I’m not really...

Yuma: Are ya tryin’ to tell me that you’ve got yer shit together? Then come with me to Eden right now.

...Come on, just leave this to me and focus on learnin’ to control your powers sooner rather than later.

Shuu: Sooner rather than later, huh...? That day might never come though...

Yuma: ...Oh shut up! I know it’s not that easy, mate...

But nobody else can do this for ya, so you’ve got no other choice.

Shuu: ...

Yuma: How should I put this...I kinda misjudged ya. 

Knowin’ ya, I thought for sure you’d just toss aside those powers and run away.

But do ya remember what ya said back at Eden the other day? 

That now that you’ve been entrusted with these powers, it’s not just yer own personal issue anymore...

I didn’t think you were actually thinking about how it’d affect the people ‘round ya...So I was a little surprised. 

Shuu: ...

Yuma: ...That’s when I decided that if ya were makin’ a conscious effort to change for the better, I’ll lend ya a hand.

There ya have it, so just leave this to me. Come on...

Shuu: ...What?

Yuma: Haah? Ya don’t know ‘bout this? Ya gotta bump her fist ‘gainst mine! God, these rich kids, I swear. 

Shuu: ...Shut up. 

Yuma: Come on, show me yer fist already. Or are ya still hesitant ‘bout leaving this up to me? 

Shuu: That’s not it...

...

*Rustle* 

Yuma: ‘Kay, this’ll do. Guess I’ll get goin’ then. 

Shuu: ...I’m counting on you to pass the message. 

Yuma: Yeah. Leave it to me. 

ー Yuma leaves

Shuu: ...

Monologue

A short while later,

Shuu-san returned to us. 

When I asked him,

he told me that Yuma-kun was already on his way to the Vibora’s castle. 

There was no doubt in my mind,

that Yuma-kun had managed,

to successfully convince Shuu-san. 

Azusa-kun had returned to Eden,

to report back to his other two brothers. 

To be able to keep a better eye,

on the progressions between Yuma-kun and the Vibora clan,

we decided to move to the castle in the Demon World.

֍ Basic Info

Name: Yunarei Race: Draenei Class: Monk, former Rangari Gender: Female Language: Common and Eredar Residence: Peak of Serenity, Kun-Lai Summit

֍ Appearance & Features

Yunarei's face is slim. Her eyes are of gold colour with barely visible pupils. Her eyebrows are thin, arching quite high above her eyes.

Her horns, rather long, are not pointy, but rather sweeping towards the back of her head only to curl slightly up at their very ends.

Yunarei’s hair is dark brown with hues of crimson colour visible in a daylight, usually only on a sunny day.

Yunarei's skin has an ivory tone with various hues of dark red on her elbows, knees, tips of her fingers, ears and spreading irregularly all over her body.

Her teeth are sharply pointed, both in her lower and upper jaw. She has delicately high cheekbones and a slim nose. On her forehead she carries an ornament with three tiny onyx crystals. A silver chain connects an earring in her nose and left ear.

She has a long tail, that narrows towards its end. There is thick, silver ornament in the middle of it and at its tip. Whenever she gets upset or nervous, her tail coils around her legs and its tip starts to slightly rattle.

Yunarei wears plain clothes of purple and grey colors; on her wrists and ankles bandage-like bindings and a sash on her waist. Her loose tunic has a hood with two small holes for her horns. She usually gets very annoyed trying to fit the hood on her head, so she tends to keep it loosely wrapped behind her neck.

֍ Treasures

A personal journal that has a leather cover with a carved symbol of a tree on it and an ink-stained wooden stick attached to it. Yunarei's writing is decisive, hasty at times.

Collection of herbs from Dreanor and Azeroth. She is currently* studying herbs of the Broken Isles, particularly of Suramar and Azsuna regions.

Wind-and-fire wheels, Yunarei's weapon, two flat metal rings, 40 centimeters (15 inches) in diameter, with protruding blades and a padded grip.

֍ People & Allies

The fate of her parents is unknown. She was initially raised by her aunt, but after her death, she was placed in an orphanage.

Monk Community: Yunarei's teachers, mentors and fellow monks. She has strong bonds with all of her teachers.

Sei: Yunarei's Inkmaster. Because of Yunarei's herbalism skills, she has also perfected skills of extracting ink from flower petals allowing her to master inscription. She is not a prolific calligrapher; that has never been her aim, but ever since the Legion’s attack on the monastery, she has been helping to restore sacred texts and books that were damaged.

Avelya: a fellow Monk, Human. She's like a sister to her. Avelya was sent to the monastery by her parents who couldn't afford bringing up a child. They passed away, and Avelya visited them only once.

Caminhanti: a fellow Draenei, Shaman. They met a while ago at the Proving Grounds of the Temple of the White Tiger.

I finished glory of the Legion hero today! Got the leyfeather hippogryph, finally remembered to do the second half of the infinite dragonflight dungeon, i think i only have one more week of zskera vaults

Only 3 achievements left for the nazjatar meta. One is for the runelocked chest world quests, so i have to wait for the right ones to pop up. The other 2, mardivas' lab and bodyguards to 30, are gonna take a few weeks

I'm finally catching up and close to finishing the original dragonflight factions. 24/25 for the expedition, less than 5 levels for centaur and valdrakken, and i think like 8 for tuskarr. I've only been to Loamm once, so that might be a focus next week?

I'm really looking forward to warbands. Account wide everything will be so good to have, especially when i have like 20+ characters.

I'm just curious if they'll ever make chromie time to up to max level. I want to level more of my toons, I've only brought 2 of them to 70, but i wish i could just go back to old content and play it through. Currently if i go to pandaria, i might make it partway through kun-lai summit before chromietime ends and I'm sent to dragonflight.

I'd appreciate it if, once you get a single character to max level in the current expansion, all subsequent characters can use chromie time right until they hit max- maybe at a slower experience rate, so the current content isn't empty for people leveling?

It's just been a long time since I've actually finished dread wastes, icecrown, twilight highlands, etc.

This one comes with a story for his TRP :)

-The Foothills-

A loud bang rang through the salted air, signaling yet again to the people scrambling about the coast of the Foothills. The boats were so far away, and yet the ships were even further. Rohan looked around back toward the mainland for one last chance to find a familiar face. So many faces, blurry with their speed and his confusion. A knife flew by him, nearly grazing him, and he snapped out of his hopeful stare and immediately waded into the water. The poor Human boy would have to swim.

With every paddle of his arms and feet, he felt he could see the boat getting closer. It was just so loud, and everything was so hard to see with the salt water in his eyes. He choked back a cough as he inhaled more of it. A hand suddenly grasped onto his ankle, and before he could react his head was underwater, eyes burning, limbs flailing. 

-The Tree-

When he finally came to, they said it was weeks later. Rohan felt sickly and cold in his cot. He’d never been to Darnassus before, and what a time to visit. The nurses explained it all to him, and he cried for his past life as he assumed the worst for everyone he knew before. 

With the weeks he had time to grow into his new self. It was a struggle to go back and forth as the shifting of his sinew made him queasy. Once he was in his Canine form, he stayed put, opting to learn all the details of this new body. He found the strength useful for carrying his own weight at the infirmary, and the other senses great for taking in his new surroundings.

It was there he first felt the call to help. The only thing that felt right anymore.

-The Summit-

With the precise and quick swing of a curved sword, Rohan sliced through the now fragile flesh of the Yeti again; its body riddled with cuts of every size. The giant thing slowly slumped forward, its weight crashing into the snow and tumbling a short distance down the mountain, held in place by a jagged rock. Rohan returned his sword to its scabbard and simply continued to trek forward, seemingly unhurt.

Around the summit of Kun-Lai, some may have come to know the name of a hulking Worgen who's kind deeds drove him to weather the storms of the summit. No yeti would be safe, and no village would be without protection with him around. He wasn't always that way, though, it seems, but no one dared ask questions of their quiet savior.

As N'zoth's forces stormed over the Vale, Rohan tried as he might to fight back. He was no Hero of Legendary Status. He was not even well trained, and the poor man was quickly struck down. The survival of his injuries only hurt him more as the void scars over his body marked him as cursed by those he once protected. With nowhere to go, he began to wander.

The more he wandered, the more the wounds disappeared. Another touch with death and abandonment made his next choice easy: He’d live for himself from now on. There would be no need to be the hero any longer, and he could finally rest. At least, that’s what his mind was sure to whisper at him.
