Okay so I don’t know if I’ll fully flush it out but I DO want to one day write a full cowboy/western au with my own spin on things. I think the main character would actually be Koby sent from the local Militia General to give a letter to Jinbei. Jinbei’s the appointed sheriff of Mil Solada, a flamboyant little town that’s a bit off the grid. So young Koby comes to town and is introduced one instance at a time to its residents. But he starts to realize slowly that it’s not quite the town the Militia thinks it is because, in fact, it’s entirely occupied by the Strawhat Gang. Jinbei’s not actually the law here, because he serves under the boss Luffy. And the letter Koby’s delivering is the summons to Ace’s hanging.
Nami- owns the bar/inn. Big time swindler, gambling queen, certified weighted dice and trick card champion. Will kill a bandit for $5.
Sanji- bar’s chef (but mostly the bartender). Wears the silliest little suits and everyone calls him a city boy.
Brook- bar’s musician at the piano, LOVES to score a fist fight. Also hangs out at the ends of town scaring off rogues that try to come for the boss’s bounty.
Zoro- a full, classic ass Kurosawa samurai.
Usopp- traveling storyteller/toy maker/puppeteer with the caravan and everything, but don’t think he’s a weak mark because he’s a wicked fuckin shot when push comes to shove. (The caravan has a beautiful carving of a ram along the top)
Robin- FIRST OF ALL Native Robin. second of all? Book collector, printing press star. She’s distributing pamphlets. And she’s snapping necks.
Franky- is totally into the big technological boom. The photograph. The telegram. He’s trying to get wires out to Mil Solada but they’re so far from the train line (train accident took an arm, mine explosion took a leg). Also someone need to help Robin with her Grasshopper press when it needs maintenance ohhh nooo. General town handyman BUT he’s working on a wagon that’ll totally kick Usopp’s caravan’s ass in a race.
Jinbei- like I said. Sheriff. Assumed law but he’s actually just using his placement as cover for everyone else to do as they will. Has a significantly different view of justice than the bastards at the Militia, so he’s letting Luffy and the gang act on that justice while turning a blind eye.
Luffy- simply wants to build a town where EVERYONE can be free.
And as he gets adjusted to this strange place, maybe Koby’s realizing just how wrong he’s been about how the world works.
Jinbei gets the letter about Ace and is planning on protesting by not going, but Luffy sees it and starts to plan the Cowboy Raid Of the Century. Full guns blazing. And the plan goes perfectly to save Ace with not a single hiccup, no sir 🙃

Cherry Magic & Colour Symbolism
I swear there was a post about this that I reblogged, but for some reason, I can't find it anymore??? So, I'm going to make my own post inspired by the original while also adding some of my own thoughts.
Adachi is usually surrounded by yellow/warm colors when in environments he's most comfortable in; for example, his room!
Tumblr media
Once Kurosawa starts to influence Adachi's life, he becomes enveloped by cool colours, mostly blue. Either that or warm and cool colours appear on/near Adachi in tandem, like the scarf Kurosawa lent to him. It's blue and white (cool) and also has a bright red stripe (warm). There's also the completely blue pajama set Kurosawa gave Adachi when he slept over at Kurosawa's apartment. At that point, Adachi was fully immersed in Kurosawa's presence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's an instance where we see how the colour symbolism is used to convey the state of Adachi's and Kurosawa's relationship. I find this shot really interesting because the warm wood of the front door and cabinets perfectly block in Adachi on the right while the left side of the shot is made up of blue and white, which blocks in Kurosawa. While the two guys are distanced equally apart from each other by the dining table, the narrow space of warm colours on the right is overpowered by the wide space of cool colours on the left. The background reflects how Adachi is feeling during episode 2, overwhelmed by Kurosawa's affection.
Tumblr media
In the movie we pretty much see the exact opposite happen once Kurosawa moves into Adachi's apartment! Kurosawa's blue bed has now replaced Adachi's and there are various blue objects scattered around the living room. They all work together visually signaling to the viewer "Kurosawa is sharing this space now". Adachi's signature yellow motif is still the most prominent though, cause the apartment was originally just his.
Tumblr media
In this shot, unlike the one in Kurosawa's dining room during episode 2, we see a pretty much equal distribution of yellow and blue! Adachi is in his very-much yellow half of the shot while Kurosawa resides in the kitchen which has a very blue tint to it, while this shot makes thematic sense (it is showing how Adachi's and Kurosawa's relationship is finally balanced) it also works to reinforce characterization. What I'm saying is, of course, the blue space that represents Kurosawa is Adachi's kitchen, KUROSAWA LOVES TO COOK!!! IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!
Tumblr media
Now, I can point out and analyze colour theory in Cherry Magic screenshots all fucking day, but I actually have a question I want to pose to people because even I don't know what would be the best fitting answer. The thing that has got me stumped is, in the context of a sun/moon dynamic, who would be the sun and who would be the moon in this relationship? I wanna draw fanart based on the sun/moon trope and I dunno what to do.
Is Adachi the sun because he's literally represented by yellow/warm colours or is he the moon because the moon is associated with shyness, going with the flow, and being "the supportive one". Is Kurosawa the moon because he's literally represented by blue/cool colours or is he the sun because the sun is associated with charisma, leadership skills, and liveliness?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kurosawa's also described by Adachi as "blinding" multiple times, so that makes him sound like he has sun energy, BUT HE'S FUCKING ASSOCIATED WITH BLUE ALL THE TIME, AND BLUE IS A NIGHTTIME COLOUR!!! I DUNNO WHAT TO PICK!!! HELP!!! SOMEONE, HELP ME PLEASE, I JUST WANNA MAKE CUTE FANART!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭

回路!
In Kiyoshi Kurosawa's 2001 horror film "Pulse" (known in Japanese as 回路かいろ "Kairo"), the internet isn't just a place to connect – it's a yawning abyss of loneliness, threatening to swallow any user whole. The story unfolds in Tokyo, the most populous and densely-packed city on the face of the Earth, yet where our characters feel utterly alone. This isolation fuels a supernatural horror unlike any other, where ghosts aren't confined to graveyards, but slither through the very cables promising connection.
Pulse follows several characters, their paths converging as a strange phenomenon grips the city. Many residents begin inexplicably taking their own lives, and those left behind are plagued by disturbing visions – pale, faceless figures appearing on computer screens. This imagery isn't just jump scares; it's a slow, creeping dread. The faces represent a surge of loneliness, a hollowness that spills out of the internet and into the real world.
Michi, a young woman working at a computer help desk, witnesses this firsthand. People call in, their voices laced with terror, describing the spectral encounters. The internet, supposed to bridge distances, has begun its transformation into the existential garbage disposal we know today. Meanwhile, Ryosuke, a hacker, stumbles upon a disturbing website promising a connection so complete, it erases your very existence. This website embodies the film's central fear: the internet as a Faustian bargain: it can connect you to anyone in the world instantaneously but at the cost of your sense of self and reality.
Kurosawa's cinematography is absolutely on point for the whole film. We see characters dwarfed by empty apartments, their faces illuminated by the cold glow of computer screens. The sterile hum of technology underscores the lack of human connection. The ghosts themselves are unsettling – distorted figures with vacant eyes, mirroring the emptiness they represent. The hollowness of their eyes showing clearly the yawning gap between reality and internet simulation they experienced before dying.
The film doesn't shy away from the dark side of human connection in the digital age. We see people using the internet for fleeting moments of intimacy in online chatrooms, only to be left feeling more isolated afterward. The characters yearn for connection, yet their attempts through technology only push them further away. Like a digital Chinese finger trap: the harder you try to force it, the worse you're stuck.
Pulse isn't a film that relies on gore or jump scares. It's a slow burn, a meditation on the anxieties of a hyper-connected world. It forces us to confront the chilling possibility that the very tool designed to bring us together might be driving us apart (honestly "might" isn't even necessary). Even today, the film feels eerily relevant. Social media can be a breeding ground for loneliness, with carefully curated online personas masking the emptiness underneath. A neologism for this phenomenon is "parasocial". Pulse serves as a stark reminder of the importance of face-to-face human connection in a world entirely dominated by screens. It's a film that will stay with me like Ghost in the Shell or Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade have.

He also has a cape (batman style where he can glide on it)

He has had trouble in the past with his girlfriend close friend betraying him and showing her true colors as a villain. In the past couple years, he started trying to get his own agency going. So far the Bird's Eye Agency consists of Corvus and a few friends, plus the occasional sidekick. The agency works to attack and cut off villain activity at the source.

Re: fucked up ladies. Yeah murcielagotypes is good or also girls that have been put through a wood chipper physically and or emotionally. Girls with baggage. Ladies that do a thing and you're immediate reaction is. Oooh there's like something WRONG wrong with you. Thank you also
Alright, so I've compiled a list of manga series (struggling to think of a movie that can be described as Murcielagoesque that isn't already popular with people who seek out that stuff). As a preamble, I want to mention that a lot of these series are messy (if not, are only about average) for reasons independent of their messed up girltagonist(s). Regardless, I find the main female characters of the series I will be listing below either compellingly written, or at least interesting to follow. You can find a synopsis of all of these series via a quick google search, but I'm going to be including content warnings and some minor notes so you get a sense of the atmosphere.
Bota Bota - the story of a 29-year-old woman's quest to have sex for the first time while managing a condition that gives her violent nosebleeds whenever she touches something 'unclean'. She's also goated with the sauce.
Tumblr media
Aku no Hana - Most people have already read this already, but if you haven't, what are you doing? CW for SA. Also, Chi no Wadachi and Avant-garde Yumeko are from the same mangaka and have strange female characters. The former of the two is a harrowing and very personal tale of child abuse however, so the female character's behaviour is more grounded as opposed to a spectacle.
Gunjou by Nakamura Ching- Thelma and Louise but in sub optimal circumstance. CW for lesbophobia, physical abuse, emotional abuse, child abuse (discussed not shown), general misery (I love this series lol)
Onani Master Kurosawa - This was one of my favourite manga series when I was in high school. While the male protagonist is the centre of the story, the female protagonist is the emotional core. And the patron saint of mentally busted girls everywhere. CW for SA (fantasized about, not actualized), bullying, blackmail, self harm and suicide attempts
Welcome to the NHK - If you only watched the anime (or even just read the light novel), for the love of God read the manga. They do Misaki so much better here. True Cluster B girl representation in media. I would have loved to see this particular iteration of the story get an adaptation.
Aspergirl - Has it really been that long since I last talked about this series? I love it. It's about a traumatized but quirky autistic girl and a shut in writer she takes up residence with. It's not dark like some the other series on this list, but the writer is very unflinching with how he depicts his subject matter. CW for discussion of emotional and physical abuse, animal abuse (it's only once) and self harm
Aa toka Uu shika Ienai - This series also isn't dark by any stretch, but the main girls are weird as hell and have baggage.
Helter Skelter by Kyoko Okazaki - All of her stories have strange women but it felt mandatory to recommend her magnum opus.
Usotsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan - Haven't read this one in a while, but I remembered liking it. Idk its not long so it can be here too. CW for child abuse
Tokyo Girls Destruction - there are no serious CWs for this one. It's like a 90s fight shounen with girls and it rules.
Sumire♡16-sai!! - Does this count? Probably not, Sumire is a nice girl. Regardless, it's still good. I recommend it.
Himegoto: Juukyuusai no Seifuku - Alright so you know how I mentioned that some series in this might border on mid to some. This is one of them; but it does have something special that may or may not land for you like it kind of (?) did for me. CW for discussions of gender/body dysphoria, SA (both enacted by and against certain main characters), CSA (not graphically detailed, but it's a core component of one character's backstory) and emotional abuse.
Franken Fran - You've definitely read this but just in case. CW for body horror LOL
Alien Nine - You've probably already watched the OVA but the manga gives the series an actual ending + further character development and darker content (some REAL bad stuff happens to our girls). If you can stand the more off-putting components of the anime, you'll likely be able to read the manga just fine. I'm also reading Propeller Heaven, which is by the same mangaka and is considerably similar. CW for body horror for both
also if you're a fan of Alien Nine, I would recommend Terumina. The female characters aren't unhinged, but there's a very strong, dreamlike atmosphere that's pervasive throughout the story, so they sometimes do strange things.
Bokura no Hentai - Alright so I want to highlight that only one of the main characters in this is a girl, the other two are boys who like to dress effeminately, but all of them have a very knowable forms of baggage that become intertwined as the story moves forward. CW for gender dysphoria, homophobic/transphobic bullying, CSA (not graphically detailed, but discussed and depicted in an abstract sense), SA (both enacted by and against a main character), physical and emotional abuse
Swweeet - This is a story where the questionable (or outright bad -_-) character development is upheld by the fact that the art is gorgeous and that there's an alluring sense of intrigue as the plot unfolds. The female main character of this one is certainly Going through it. CW for SA (main character against another) and questionable displays of violence ? at times
Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction - I remember in an interview Asano Inio did after he completed Punpun he said that he started DeDeDeDe because he finally understood why people gravitate towards cute girl sol manga. Anyway this series is about the most girls ever.
Gensou Gynaecocracy - So this is a collection of oneshots by Hiroaki Samura. It's not completely translated, but has his signature style and a reasonable amount of intrigue per chapter. The stories seek to convey a sense of magical realism and atmosphere above all else, so while characters aren't particularly deep, they're at least weird. I recommend the first few chapters (the story about the pineapple girl in particular) as a starter, and then you can see if you want to continue reading. I changed my mind, just read the pineapple girl chapter and then go read Wave, Listen to Me!
Hanshin - Just read the oneshot, the other chapters aren't related
Aishiteimasu, Kyouko-san. - It appears that scanalators have abandoned this one for the time being, but I'm honestly intrigued enough to see where this one goes (even if it does end up being Dead Tube level trash). CW for some very weirdly depicted child abuse
trash. - Man, I really didn't want to recommend trash., but most of my list doesn't actually deal too much with girls who bite and kill and murder. trash. is a pulpy exploitation horror, but it has more tact than Dead Tube about how to portion out the Edge. it's female cast has reasonable enough characterization and motivations that I can say things never really get boring. You just gotta read it and see if it's for you. CW for anything you could possibly think of short of outright guro.
Golondrina - Not too unhinged, but still rather unique. It's about a lesbian who becomes a bullfighter after a devastating breakup.
also I havent read this one yet but I hear Machigatta Ko wo Mahou Shoujo ni Shiteshimatta is good. I'm apprehensive towards the whole "magical girl, but edgy" thing because of how many writers transparently do not consume any of the genre they're trying to take apart, but this doesn't appear to be torture porn

Marusa no Onna
In February of 1987, the movie Marusa no Onna (in English, A Taxing Woman), directed by Juzo Itami, was released in Japan. The movie portrays a National Tax Agency bureaucrat and her investigations into businesses doing tax evasion. With its great direction and satirical humor, it became a hit in Japan. It reached number four in distribution revenues among Japanese films for that year and dominated the 1987’s Japan Academy Film Prize, winning six out of seven of its major awards, including Best Work, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
Capcom released Marusa no Onna in September 1989, being the company’s second game adaptation of a movie for the Famicom (the first was Willow, that same year). The film’s director, Juzo Itami, worked as a producer for the game. Kiyoshi Kurosawa, director known for his contributions to the Japanese horror movie scene, was also credited with helping with the project. Capcom regular Tokuro Fujiwara was the director. The three of them also worked together on the RPG Sweet Home, which was released just three months after Marusa no Onna. One of Sweet Home’s screenwriters, credited as PROBIT, also served as the sole screenwriter for Marusa no Onna’s game. Although Marusa no Onna remained largely forgotten throughout the years, Sweet Home went on to be recognized as a precursor of the survival horror genre and served as the main inspiration for Resident Evil.

These 5 spooky video games will keep you on the edge of your seat
From big-budget blockbusters to indie standouts, the future has a lot of fear-packed games. But many older games are still so good, it would be a shame to miss them. As a huge horror fan, it is difficult to find the right blend of scary and story in a video game. Hence, I have created a list of my absolute must-play horror games to help fellow enthusiasts.
Until Dawn (2015)
If you’re looking for the most cliché horror game, it’s got to be this one. Until Dawn is an interactive survival horror game that lets players step into the shoes of eight young adults as they try to survive on Blackwood Mountain.
Tumblr media
The characters fit stereotypes that can be found in horror movies. There are plenty of jump scares in the story, and the coolest part is you decide how it progresses. Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Brett Dalton are some of the recognizable faces in the game.
Developer: Supermassive Games
Genre: Survival Horror, adventure, exploration
Modes: Single player
Rating: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 4
Fatal Frame III: The Tormented (2005)
A third installment in the Fatal Frame series, Fatal Frame III: The Tormented tells the story of Rei Kurosawa, a freelance photographer, who is assigned to take photos of an abandoned mansion. The dark, narrow corridors and Japanese ghosts definitely add a lot of scare factor to this survival horror classic.
Tumblr media
Throughout the game, you'll experience unexpected twists and turns, as you fall under the curse of the mansion. What's really interesting is that there are two endings.
Developer: Tecmo
Genre: Survival Horror
Modes: Single player
Rating: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 2
The Evil Within (2014)
Though not as popular, this game is a psychological horror experience that messes with your perceptions. The story is fascinating and the characters are multidimensional.
You take on the role of Sebastian Castellanos, a police detective arriving with his partners at a Beacon Memorial Hospital to investigate a crime. The team finds the hospital abandoned after discovering a massacre took place there. The story then takes a crazy turn which you should definitely find out for yourself!
Tumblr media
This game has more action and shooting than the other two, reminiscent of Resident Evil four through six. So if you want something more action-oriented, this one is for you.
Developer: Tango Gameworks
Genre:  Psychological horror, Survival Horror
Modes: Single Player
Ratings: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Cloud Gaming
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)
The first-person survival horror game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has a LOT of gore. You play as Ethan Winters, who searches for his long-missing wife on a derelict plantation occupied by an infected family, fighting enemies and solving puzzles.
Tumblr media
This will probably be on every horror game list, but it is totally worth checking out. The seventh Resident Evil game brought Capcom back to its horror roots, and they did a great job.
Developer: Capcom
Genre: Psychological horror, survival horror
Modes: Single Player
Ratings: Mature (ESRB), 18 (PEGI)
Available on: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch (Cloud Version), PlayStation 5, Stadia
Blair Witch (2019)
There's no doubt you'll be up at night with this one! In this game, an ex-policeman, Ellis Lynch, is tasked with finding a missing boy in the Black Hills Forest, based on the Blair Witch horror movies of the '90s.
Tumblr media
“Blair Witch is one of the most successfully terrifying horror games I've ever played. More so even than any of the Amnesia games, it made me feel like I'd been dragged feet-first through Hell by the end.”
- (Hafer, 2019)
With the first person perspective and the extremely dark surroundings, you're sure to get goose bumps. The story is captivating and makes you question everything. There are plenty of puzzles to solve as well as a lot to explore. and the fact that you can customize your German Shepherd at the beginning of the game (and feed him snacks throughout) is particularly appealing to me.
Developer: Bloober Team
Genre: Survival horror
Modes: Single Player
Ratings: Mature (ESRB)
Available on: Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Oculus Quest, Oculus Quest 2, Amazon Luna

headcanon: Akiyama’s feelings on being perceived as a figure of authority versus taking initiative
I’ve elaborated before on why Akiyama (in my interpretation) is someone inherently suspicious and/or who dislikes people in positions of authority once he is reborn as the Lifeline of Kamurocho - although this can be manageable if he eventually comes to know these individuals on a personal basis and can vouch for their actions (i.e. Date and Tanimura are trusted connections despite being in the police, which is an organization that Akiyama vastly distrusts by default).
The same thing applies to himself - Akiyama does not do anything because he wants some sort of recognition or to be put on a pedestal; this is something that hits too close to his old life (and all the expectations placed on his shoulders as a child) and he’s no longer that person. Akiyama only engages in these heroic endeavors alongside other protagonists because there’s something bigger and more important to fight for - typically, Kamurocho and its residents, their dreams and lives.
In fact, he is often the brains of the operations - in both Y4 and Y5, he is the one orchestrating their over the top finale plans. It’s his idea to use his money to draw every player from Y4 to the top of Millennium Tower and bring the true ‘ringleader’ into light, just as how it was Akiyama who managed to find out the connections linking the main characters to Kurosawa and the fact that Majima, Daigo and Katsuya had all been aware of the plans since the beginning. Not only that - in Y5, he actively seeks Saejima and Kiryu out after Shinada finds him to coordinate their efforts to ensure some chance of success and prevent all-out war in Kamurocho.
In these two situations, Akiyama is clearly comfortable in taking the lead and giving ideas/issuing orders to set his plans in motion (and he is not ever opposed by any of the other protagonists). In this case, the leadership was not thrusted upon him - he just took initiative to prepare something, and worked alongside his equals. In my particular interpretation of Akiyama, being a hands-on person and proactively working to prevent/solve conflict is very much okay and he doesn’t mind taking charge when surrounded by colleagues/friends.
This is different, however, if he’s given some sort of spotlight or degree of authority - Akiyama particularly detests the feeling of being put on a pedestal or regarded as some sort of ‘leader’ or anything that implies he’s hierarchically superior to anyone (the only exception being work relationships, where he doesn’t mind being called ‘boss’ in typical Japanese fashion). For me, the best example is during the Y5 finale when Watase (and the other Fukuoka and Sapporo families) bow to him in acknowledgement of his efforts to save Kamurocho - Akiyama looks uncomfortable with the attention and with all these men bowing to him; he cracks a joke and defuses the attention immediately as a reaction, because he does not like this sort of thing at all (less so from the yakuza, another type of organization he doesn’t entirely appreciate either).
I also like to believe Y6 implies Akiyama had a degree of authority/control over the other homeless people in Kamurocho, considering how he cannot be reached directly and how many of them are ready to seemingly protect him/hide him from suspicious individuals. I interpret this part of his life as a complicated one - he does mention later to Kiryu that he did nothing while ‘sitting on his garbage throne in the sewers’ when he offers to join Kiryu and the Hirose family for the Millennium Tower raid, and it seems to allude to Akiyama having some sort of say or influence on how the homeless people operated and/or organized themselves.
For the purposes of my portrayal - that is something he dislikes and actively tries to discourage; he does not think himself better than any of the other people in the city, he does not believes himself deserving of special treatment and he does not want to be considered as a ‘special’ or ‘more important’ because of the money he has or the life he leads under normal circumstances. Akiyama will always appreciate genuine assistance - but as long as it is born out of a sincere friendship/connection and based on the qualities and characteristics he has as a person and not his social standing.
In summary: Akiyama is someone entirely unafraid to take things into his own hands and go after practical solutions, and he easily steps into a mastermind/organizer role when dealing with multiple allies towards a shared cause - but he will never appreciate being worshipped or blindly followed with no questions asked as if he’s anything more but a regular guy.

Swablu lookin ass
I kinda accidentally made today almost completely wasted by just not paying attention earlier and wasting like 2 hours getting food lol. Its not even worth explaining but I got to work super late and then when I got home it felt like I had stopped existing from the moment I left to the moment I got back. But I got a new air filter!!!!
All the cool and awesome and swag stuff today happened in the world of video games. I have spent like half of this 15 hour Star Ocean save just creating items and learning about new forms of item creation, like theres just a built in duplication system?? And I've created a bunch of characters that are too powerful. Like one of my guys is immune to magic and the other 3 absorb it as health. I'm working on a secret fighting technique that will send a giant crab to the gates of heaven
Once I got all settled in at home I started Onimusha and that game is fuckin weird but I like it a lot so far. Its biggest issue is movement, cuz traditionally it uses tank controls like Resident Evil, but the port has coward free movement as well, which I have been using. The problem is the tank controls dont let you steer good, and the free movement creates the camera issues that tank controls were created to avoid. But the game is like half demon horror thing, and half Kurosawa samurai porn. The intro shows some of the realistic samurai fighting where its just guys crawling on the ground slapping eachother desperately with their swords, and then cuts to Samanosuke doing sick action shit to a bunch of goons. And the english VA is so bad its the best. I am excited to replay with japanese voices eventually but I need to hear the RE shit
The other thing I played might need to stay a surprise for my one follower who reads these, it might be a fun little project for someday we both have free
I had a matcha ice cream taiyaki for breakfast and I almost had another after dinner this thing fucks. Its like imagine a taiyaki with the bean paste, and ice cream in it, but the waffle part is like a waffle cone. Its so strange but I loved it

2024 MOVIE LIST
www.tumblr.com/theharpermovieblog
I watched Sweet Home (1989)
I just found out about this movie, though I'm sure some of you video game people know all about it.
A Japanese film crew enters an old cursed mansion searching for lost fresco paintings of a famous artist.
From the director of Pulse, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the film "Sweet Home" was simultaneously released alongside a video game of the same title, which was distributed by Capcom. The game would end up being the inspiration for the Resident Evil video game series.
Despite the connection, "Sweet Home" does have a much simpler and different set-up than "Resident Evil". It's a pretty straightforward haunted house film. However, it has a bit more going for it than the cliche's which the haunted house genre is well known for. Yes, we've seen a lot of this plot before, but still "Sweet Home" manages to be engaging by using decently interesting and likeable characters, as well as some real cool horror imagery.
The film is also not above a little silly humor or heavy Gothic atmosphere. As a movie, it knows what it is and takes full advantage of that knowledge.
A lot of Japanese and Asian horror isn't afraid to get weird or wild or gory.
While filmmaking ideas such as, "The audience creates scarier things in their imaginations" and "The less is shown the scarier it is" do work in certain situations, there is an art to the brutal and fully visible horror which certain films provide. Special effects are fun, fake violence can be fun, practical monsters and ghosts are fun.
In my opinion, it's when you can deliver both concepts in a single film that you have something special. Building tension through shadows and sounds, while delivering on the gory and bloody goodness through special effects. Almost like the punchline of a well set-up joke.
While "Sweet Home" isn't the greatest version of this, it does walk a nice balance, and is better at it than something like Friday the 13th, which often slips into tedium rather than tension.
This is a fun movie. A B-horror with some gore and a simple take on a haunted house tale. While not as creative as something like 1977's "Hausu" this movie is still on that same level, and a definite recommend if you're looking for a nice companion piece for a double feature.
