Laney Danes is William's youngest child, she's 21 in s1 and more of a big sister vibe with Jess then actually being an Aunt (only 4 years older)

Luke basically raised her but she got a scholarship to Columbia and reached out to Jess when she first moved to New York, he practically lives with her because of how unreliable Liz is

But Liz still has custody and eventually ships Jess to Stars Hollow anyway, Laney is pissed. She can't drop everything and move back because she's in her senior year and determined to graduate, but she spends a lot of time in Stars Hollow and moves back in s3 to get Jess through high school, gets a two bedroom apartment and Jess lives with her, with lots of help from Luke and Kathryn, she's determined to find a way to make it all work
