six sentence sunday

got tagged by @queen-scribbles, which gave me an excuse to sit down and write six sentences while these popsicles freeze! so here's a little more take your daughter to work day, featuring putting out fires.

For a while she lets routine take over. Noise washes past her in distant waves--the Vice-Commander hollering orders, a couple of Elementalists jogging by to haul a huge cylinder of water from the well. Gwen's somewhere nearby, probably roped into crowd control Then her partner taps out, and she looks up to see none other than Lady Lockwood take her place. She should be used to running into people half-remembered from brief countryside visits or the adults pausing for conversation in Parliament's entrance hall, but the sight of Lavinet Naveen passing her a sloshing bucket still catches her by surprise. Flecks of ash drift past, clinging to her lavender braid. If her surprise shows on her face, Lavinet doesn't seem to register it--or perhaps she does, and simply decides it's not worth acknowledgement.

Not gonna lie, really just wanted an excuse to draw Lavinet, lol. That being said, I’d imagine if the Shepherds were a 1920’s detective agency, Lavinet would be the one to easily infiltrate clandestine parties hosted by unscrupulous individuals.

This is gonna sound like a rant but a promise it's a rave....I hate Lavinet but I love her character lol.

(spoilers incoming)

She's written so well but I can't be infuriated with her. I didn't leave her cousin to die, my MC a split second decision to save a child over duty. Was it wrong? Maybe. But I couldn't let the only person kind to me die vrs the random hag yelling at me.

Could I use a word of power? Fair, but my first time playing I want sure this particular "power" was not somehow going to vanish this city as well or be some sort of mininuke.

I was expecting it, but still very surprised because of how vicious she was.

Haha, thank you! I know that moment can be controversial/unpleasant for some, but I think it's not only important emotional "fallout" as a result of MC's decisions (no matter how understandable from our standpoint and side of things), but it also shows a crucial aspect of Lavinet's personality: she may be "our" Lavi to some, but the thing that makes her so formidable to both her enemies and peers is that she is a courtier through and through, able to hide her true feelings beneath a pleasant and charming mask, and able to employ a ruthless and absolute vicious sense of judgement and enmity as well. She wouldn't be as formidable as the story makes her out to be without that very real element of her personality. I don't think saving Caine over Prihine is "morally" wrong by any means (it's probably what I would have done as a player myself), but I think from Lavinet's perspective, it would impossible for me to forgive or be understanding/charitable towards someone who allowed my cousin to die under their watch when they were specifically hired to protect them, and then only a few months later is enjoying all of this fame and success and glory as "the Hero of Haven." Especially without having been there myself! And, as in life, some conflicts just can't be reconciled and are unfortunate realities to contend with!

Anyway, thank you for your commentary and insight, it was exactly the reaction I was hoping for! 😄

this is a hard one because what is an au if not a cinema-length headcanon LMAO but uhhhhh red still has his lip scar in superhero au! he got it early on in his shepherd vigilante days when his combat style was still mostly ‘superspeed out of their way’, which works until you fail to get out of the way. he had to lie to moira and say he was hit by a car to explain the scope of his injuries, but she was a thousand percent ready to have a strong word with his editor at his ‘journalism internship’, because *who makes their employees walk home at night in winter—*

🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?

lavinet naveen my absolute BELOVED someday i will be satisfied with your character voice. i have trouble resisting the temptation to lean into the backwards-and-in-heels aspect of her because it *really* speaks to my woman-in-STEM power fantasy of being seen as highly competent without having to sacrifice every single trace of femininity lmao. but lately i’ve been tossing around a primogeniture legislation subplot for bridgerton au that would involve her somewhat heavily. frankly it would be a crime if i didn’t feature her in some capacity because she was *made* for regency and court aus. we’ll see what happens, it’s all drafts
