That is such a small part of their relationship! The entire appeal is that they UNDERSTAND eachother like no one else has before! L has chased after so many physically and mentally attractive criminals— but none of them mattered before Light because Light understands L at a fundamental level! He doesn't care that Light is a murderer! Their tension comes from the fact that they are ultimately drawn to one another but they can't be together, they are the same but on opposite sides of a war even though their mentalities and morals are so similar!

Their love was fast but slow, an instant intrigue and attraction at their first meeting that only grew as they came to know eachother more.

It was the "dates" they went on together in public, the late working nights, solving bits of the case together and not alone like the norm, being chained and in eachothers space for months, learning the small quirks and ticks, body language, habits, eating preferences, peeves, negative reactions, morning routines, night and sleeping routines, all of the small stuff that only made them fall deeper.

They feel so romance heavy to me, tender touches, leaning against eachother, hair getting tangled while they sleep and thinking about how nice it feels and smells, their scents becoming similar because they use the same soap and detergent, just holding and cherishing eachother and every moment they have, soft kisses igniting passions that can lead to more.

It's also how monstrous they are. They are both so weird and strange, they don't feel all lovey dovey about one another all of the time, they can be violent and mean and downright hateful but they can take it. They love eachother for it because it's honest and exciting, they can't get bored together. The hits, scratches, kicks and punches, then licking eachothers wounds and patching eachother up with a peck.

So yeah, sex can definitely be a thing for them, but this is what they are for me. So much more than that.

You know I’d really like think that despite all of Light’s flaws and manipulation and over all toxicity that he wouldn’t criticize L for his autistic traits and characteristics. And that L feels comfortable enough to show them around Light good and bad. I like to think that Light would research everything he can to try and better understand where L is coming from. Very quickly he finds himself advocating for his friend and when something happens Light takes matters into his own hands and tells the task force that he’ll be okay, he just needs to be alone.

Just imagine L who doesn’t give one shit about what people think about him and who randomly says “I’m too autistic for this.” With Light who also doesn’t give a shit and will kill anyone who tries to say anything.

They’d be unstoppable

What would Lawlights favorite lolipop flavors be?

I could see L being a strawberry or banana type of guy. He definitely hates green apple and grape, though, that's a fact.

Idk why, but i bet Light LOVES artificial cherry flavor. He doesnt really like sweets, but if it's cherry flavored he'll guzzel that shit. Saichiko could only buy the cherry cough syrup, and had to keep it on the highest shelf when he was a kid because he would drink nothing but cough syrup.

Bonus; misa would eat all the leftover grape and green apple that the boys refuse to touch. She almost always has a green or purple tongue because of it. Ryuk tried the apple flavor one time thinking it would be like a real apple... it didnt end well.

L x Yagami Light Dating Without the Death Note Headcanons

Warnings: I have a feeling that you won't like my answer, so it's under the cut. I'll warn you now, it's very long and detailed.

If you mean by the Death Note existing at all? Then there would be a very small, slim, even miniscule chance that Light and L would have ever met. If Ryuk had never come around with his notebook, if Light had never seen it, then I don't think that ship could ever happen.

Not unless Light decides to challenge L or the other top three detectives in the world for the title or becomes a serial killer in another way. If that was the case, then this should would encounter some of the same traits in canon: the competition, the mind games, etc. However, since Light isn't Kira and there isn't any supernatural influences, then there is a chance that L will win and put Light in prison. I don't think L is about having relations with an inmate, but I doubt that he would want to pursue a relationship with Light considering that once he's in jail, there's no more fun in that, isn't there?

Because that's what drew those two together, the fact that the both of them can keep each other on their toes, never realizing what the other will do next. Once there is a definitive loser, the winner will have no reason to stay with the loser.

It's their pride, methinks that will interfere with their supposed relationship.

However, what would happen if there was in fact a Death Note, but it did not end up in Light's hands? Well, the reason why L was so interested in the killings was because Light had centered most of his killings in Japan. It was an intriguing case and one that promised L that it would alleviate his boredom. Furthermore, Light played into his trap that the original television broadcast was aired to the entirety of Japan and not just Kanto.

So, what can we extrapolate from this data?

You need another person who wishes to kill criminals all over the world (possibly is as childish and as justice driven as Light), also resides in Japan, and will easily fall prey to L's tricks. Furthermore, you will also need to find a person who is not as easily guilted into dropping the notebook and giving it to someone else (like Light did). Already, you need to have someone who has to have a genius mind or an intelligence on par or even surpassing Light and needs to be in the general vicinity of Light's original location.

Again, the chances are slim that Light and L will meet in this universe. However, if they do, they will be at best allies and at worst, very annoyed coworkers. If this universe takes place during the same timeline (Light basically graduating high school at the beginning) and his father also works under L, you're going to have realize that again, I don't think this relationship is going to happen.

First of all, there is the age difference. Light is like 17-18 at the beginning and L is 24-25. Plus, there's Soichiro to consider. You really think that Soichiro is going to let his son enter into an unprofessional relationship with a man who is already an adult when Light is just recently coming into his own? The only reason why Light was allowed to come this close to the investigation was because he was a Kira suspect. In this supposed universe, Light is innocent and has no idea that the Death Note exists. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's canon that no one outside of the Task Force were to tell anyone that they were involved in the Kira investigation. If that's the case, then Light would only have suspicions that maybe his father is working on the Kira investigation, but he can't butt in because that's not his prerogative and he's supposed to be focusing on his studies in college.

So, we've missed the initial meeting between L and Light. What if the investigation continues on for a few more years, what then? Well, again, you're going to have look at a Kira (not Light) who can keep L on his toes and can evade detection for just as long. However, again, that chance of having someone who is on par with Light is just as slim, close to zero maybe. If anything, L could probably find this version of Kira faster and then the investigation would be over, Soichiro could go home happy, and Light would be none the wiser while completing his studies.

Again, no relationship.

You could argue that maybe the Death Note ends up in a different country, L ends up in a battle of wits again someone with intelligence as him, and the Kira investigation lasts for years. Perhaps Light can be brought in as a consultant. Maybe he gets to be in a position where he gets to meet L himself. That's a lot of ifs.

Here's the thing, I don't think L or Light are interested in having a relationship, especially with people they are working with. In my mind, they are too preoccupied with being professional.

HOWEVER

If there is a chance that a romance could blossom... It won't be that romantic, and maybe not even that sexual.

It's mainly just banter, fighting, maybe even civil discussions about philosophy. They don't think about romance, especially not at first, but they are drawn to each other's intelligence. However, pride wins out, it always does. Perhaps Light begins to lust after the power that L has at his fingertips and schemes to take L's thrown away from him. Perhaps Light wants to become the next biggest detective... or be the instigator for the world's greatest mystery that even L can't solve. Maybe he'll commit a crime and dispose all evidence.

It'll rankle at L and they'll engage in the battle of the minds.

They attack, they parry, all with words and the vitriol of two scorned lovers who can't look at anyone else.

Eventually, it all ends in canon. One has to kill the other.

Because how else can they express their love for each other than to consume and destroy until nothing is left of their dear lover?

What I'm saying is, there is no known universe where Light and L don't have a dysfunctional relationship where one doesn't want to bring the other to heel.

If you're looking for romance and sexual proclivities, this isn't it. This is soulmateship in its rawest, purest form. The urge to be each other's only world until they have no choice to destroy it so the outside world can never taint the other.

I want a fanfiction made out of this , i had this idea for so long in my draft . I think I'm never gonna make it , so have this instead :

The prince who came to save his prince . I want L to be the protagonist here .So I got this inspiration from "kiss him not me" anime 'who said a prince will come to save his princess, why not a Prince at heart came to save his beloved Prince' .So in this historical periodic thriller, I have just changed the death note to a historical Prince au , where Light Yagami is a well known Prince and has a lot of reputation in his kingdom and he'll succeed his father's throne when he turns twenty two . And then there's a series of mysterious deaths in the kingdom of big big names non stop all of the causes of deaths are heart attack (we already know what happens) . Then L lawliet the public name L is summoned by the king . He's the only super intelligent detective in all seven of the continents, (okay its going a bit unrealistic,) to search and solve the mystery which has caused a series chaos , fear , and threat to the people and the kingdom , the people named the fear kira , they thought someone has descended from heaven to punish people .and obviously if the king and the Prince are dead the kingdom will no longer be there . When L arrives at the kingdom Light isn't there , he didn't knew about this but he went on an expentidition to under stand the kingdom better and to gain experience for the sake of ruling this kingdom , or as just the people of the palace know this , but actually he's roaming around and killing corrupted people in his kingdom to make it the purest place of all times for his future reign .when he returns , he is shocked and trembled from inside , but at least he finds a good rivalry , rather than being bored by his luxury life . And the killing continues . But here I wanna focus more on those two . There's a series of really tough conversations and later on more personal ones I want to imagine . And as the days pass by they become more and more close , took likings to each others personality . They can both feel their heart ache at some point to tell each other how much they love them . L had uncovered the painful truth by himself , but he kept it to himself for the sake of his untold lover , he wants to save him , he wants to save his prince from this psychopathic self he had , he wants to spend more days like this , with him , maybe until his very life ends . On the other end light wants to kill him , his heart aches from the very thought of it . He is his rival , how can he love him and hate him at the same time . He wants to stay the things as they are . He wants to be together with him but circumstances do not bring them together . He wants to spend his days together in a castle away from the world with his prince . Kira wants to kill him , he's in the way . LIght wants to love him, give him a bone crushing hug and freeze the moments he spent with lawliet . L wants to punish the culprit bring out the truth to everyone . But lawliet wants to save his beloved Prince from the disastrous self he had become . They both want to protect something , save something, love something . Yet they can't. The world expects a different thing from them .

Love how absolutely NOTHING in Light’s life was important after L died to the point where we cut, what is it? 5, 6 years in the future before anything matters again? That’s insane. We got absolutely zero insight into his attitudes towards L after he was gone, which almost makes me think he took it just as rough as he did victorious, which is something that Obha didn’t want to portray as to not disturb the sort of “stoic” tone he’s obsessed with giving everybody for some reason.

I’ve said it before, but I don’t think Light is emotionless either. I think he’s quite literally two people in one body. Light Yagami and Kira. Unfortunately, Kira is the stronger and more frequent of the two entities. But still, when I rewatch death note, I catch glimpses of Light Yagami here and there (pre-Yotsuba of course, because that wouldn’t count). I’ll talk about those instances in the future, but yeah. Kira took delight in L’s death. Light was destroyed by it.

Actually, I think Light’s instinctual reaction to L falling to the floor was distress. You can see it in his face before it shifts to a smile. He’s actually upset by it to the point where I wouldn’t doubt BOTH of them teared up in those last moments before that shit-eating Kira grin shows up. (Obha/Obata would never actually show this, unfortunately 🙄) I even think the scream wasn’t entirely acting. He wasn’t scared about the shinigami though, Light screamed because L ACTUALLY died. He did it. Light got what he wanted and now his only friend is fucking dead.

Do I think Kira laughed at L’s graveside? Yes. I do. But I think Light cried first. I genuinely have reason to believe in that.

I headcanon a Light Yagami gripping the bathroom sink or toilet seat, throwing up and crying in the immediate aftermath lmfao. I genuinely don’t believe that it was all sunshine and rainbows, hence the time skip. It’s not just because it was uneventful, it’s because portraying that time period would force Obha to get into the grief more than he was willing to.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY believe every word I just said.

lawlight angst hc (spoilers)

i started reading the death note manga and there's this one panel talking about light's nightmares and i like to headcanon that those nightmares never go away. even when his memories are gone in the yotsuba arc, he's still having nightmares that he doesn't fully understand but he knows it has something to do with him possibly being kira. he always brushes it to the side though and keeps gaslighting himself into believing it's not true. i especially like to headcanon that the night he gets his memories back, the night before he kills L, he has the worst nightmare he's had since the start of all of this and it completely ruins him. like he just wakes up in a sweat and starts sobbing, to the point where he can't even try to deny himself from anything anymore. i also like to think that on this same night, him and L are sharing the same room together despite not being handcuffed anymore. L probably requests it just because his suspicions are up again, and watching light wake up in a complete panic is the last piece of evidence he needs. but instead of acting on this, he just chooses to ignore it. because despite everything, light is his friend. and he would like to die knowing that the night before his passing, he was beside his friend, not his murderer.

I keep running into anime/manga with just the worst friggin "european" names... I also just finished Death Note: Another Note and I wanted to scream every time I read "Blues-harp Babysplit" or one of the other abominations of names. Death Note is wonderful, best series ever, has a special place in my heart, but I can't take that name shit serious.
