Draco being a good dad, despite growing up in an abusive environment

Don't get me wrong, I love supportive and loving Lucius in fanfictions. But a Lucius Malfoy that doesn't really cares about his son, only about the way the Malfoy name is perceived. A Lucius Malfoy that doesn't care if he hurt his son - verbally or physically. A Lucius Malfoy that almost beat the life out of Draco when he found out he was gay. A Lucius Malfoy that told Draco boys didn't cry.

And a Draco Malfoy that was the complete opposite of his father. A Draco Malfoy that spends as much time with Scorpius as possible. A Draco Malfoy that tucks his son to bed and stays with him until he falls asleep. A Draco Malfoy that puts his son's happiness over everything and everyone. A Draco Malfoy that hugs Scorpius tightly when he cries, telling him everything would be okay, dad was here to protect him.

Scorpius grew up surrounded by love, support, hugs and sweet words before going to sleep. He grew up loved and some might even say spoiled - although he was everything but a soiled kid. He grew up trusting his dad without a doubt.

"Yeah, and one more thing. I uh..." The man across the glass looks a little sheepish, a lot happy. "I applied for parole."

A pressure builds in the corners of your eyes immediately as you put your hand on the glass separating you two. "Yanc..."

You watch the corners of his eyes crinkle as his hand comes up to meet yours - so close, yet still too far. "I thought about what youse was sayin' when we, uh -" he clears his throat and glances behind him, "when you wrote me that last letter."

You knew what he was talking about, despite having never written any letters. Better to say that instead of 'when I got you out of prison,' yeah? Your eyes move to his hand after he finished with his over-dramatic gesture, ever the theatric.

"And I thought to myself, 'Hey, why not?' You know?" His eyes show nothing but love as he presses his hand against the glass once more.

"Yeah, I... I know." You can feel your chest tighten just a bit as you bring your hand back for just a second to wipe your eyes.

"Aw, hey, don't - don't youse go cryin' now. Youse's gonna make me cry, too." The brunet's eyes start to tear up as he says it, voice thickening as he speaks.

You close your eyes as you smile at him. "Sorry, Yanc, I'm just really happy. I'm proud of you - you've had to do a lot for this, right?"

Your hand finds his on the glass once more, unable to help the way your heart feels a little lighter at hearing all the ways he's tried to improve himself. Tried to improve successfully, at least. Not stabbing anyone was definitely a feat, if the way his tone and actions weren't enough of an indicator.

"Oh, and we've been workin' on this new song, just in case you showed up! Oh, you're gonna love it. Hang on."

Yancy goes to put the phone back on its holder and you quickly tap the glass to get his attention back on you. "Leave it off so I can hear it, Yanc."

"Oh, right. Always forget about that, heh." His voice is a little sheepish as he lays it down on the table before bringing his fingers to his lips to whistle. He grabs a bat from the cubicle and points to the guard before grabbing the chair and moving to the opposite side of the visitation room. The lights change a bit and you feel your eyes start to water once more, propping your chin in your hand and staring at Yancy - center stage, as always.

Hopefully he'll be granted parole. It'll be hard for him, having spent most of his life in prison - but maybe... maybe he'll learn to like life outside of it again. You'll be there for him, of course.

It is my firm headcanon that the magic keeping the ceremorphosis halted also, as a side effect, halts some other biological processes within the bodies of our intrepid adventurers: the most noticeable among them being the menstrual cycle of anyone who might have one.

This is partly because then I don't have to get super serious about fantasy birth control in fic that might require it (and/or so I can ignore it not being used in others' fics and NOT be hopelessly turned off), and partly because I think they just, yanno, fucking deserve not to have to deal with any of that shit on top of everything else.

And also because I think Iona very intently grabbing Shadowheart by the shoulders (because who tf knows if githyanki even have periods, or whether Karlach's like evaporates or something) with an "I need you to answer me honestly, and NOT make it weird, OR ask why I need to know: have you had a period in the last two months." is kinda hilarious.

.... On the same note, I also headcanon that vampire spawn specifically are all sterile (yes, even him), because vampires in every lore I personally know reproduce via bite (with the biting pretty much always being sort of an allegory for penetration and all that). Since the bite of a spawn is not contagious, and a full vampire is the only kind that can create another vampire, it stands to reason that this would translate to the other kind of reproduction as well.

Y'all are ofc welcome to think otherwise, but I do and will always operate under the thought that our dear Astarion is firing blanks from both ends.
