OH MAN, Signalis is a trip. I love it so, so much enough that I wrote fifty-something poems for it lmao and it's lived rent-free in my brain ever since. Today I wrote chapters about my father. I don't know how happy I was about it Or how happy I am with it I have yet to look it over again. I'm sure I'll add and subtract, thoroughly mutilate it beyond all repair. One good thing is there is no spelling nazi. I swear I spend many minutes correcting the most mundane of sentences ruined by this undereducated spell reader. She continually tries to rob the very essence from anything magical or poetically worthy. Writing free hand frees me from her monitoring, it makes me now even more prone to my own mistakes. Editing will be real. The anger at my handwriting will be real. The anger at some things I have to say will be real. Maybe I can learn. I usually do. So that's what I'm doing. I don't feel like talking. I don't feel like anything. Maybe a coffee and a smoke. Who's gonna know? You? Maybe its like my mothers pictures. Indicative of the knowledge death approaches. Perhaps its nonsense created by the panicked mind to somehow make sense of it all. When life really makes no sense, does it? Hers was drawing. Mine is writing. maybe I can describe mortality and death to you in its undistilled form. Not the fear mongering theatre Spector but the truth of death as a part of life. Not an enemy to run from but an ally to help you cross your most difficult passage. Hopefully watching me completely lose it can be a lesson. I lose it more often than many know and who knows maybe doktor vwergner was right about me. It stands to reason in some respect, perhaps. As much as I disagree on his diagnosis, vehemently disagree I might add. I do admit my anxiety is at times uncontrollable. I admit it. Deal with it. Hang around enough you'll see it. Delete me now before it disturbs you. If I can't control it for myself what makes you think I can control it for you. Wise up. Its me, remember? Deal with it.

Honestly I think the only blog that, of those I've talked to, could be considered a part of this blog's canon would be Memo (and we have talked about it a bit) but iirc they still haven't made a solid decision on it and honestly I respect that! So for now, I am the one and only blog for this continuity, and it'll likely stay that way. I'm a bit finicky about that just because I do have a whole story in mind, and sorting out the lore and everything with someone I don't know that well is just a hassle I don't want to deal with right now, mostly because I don't have a ton of spare time.)

3, 14, 19 for Balthazar/Tristian for the OTP ask game :)

3. Do they wear each other’s clothes? (sweatshirt, bandana, necklace, etc.)

Not much, really. In a practical sense, it would be difficult. Balthazar’s a bit smaller and a lot more slight than Tristian, so Tristian borrowing clothes wouldn’t exactly be comfortable. And Balthazar has some terribly awkward wings by the time the two of them are together- his clothes have to be tailored to him to accommodate the wings, and it’s difficult to wear clothes that haven’t been altered. Although it doesn’t stop him from occasionally stealing Tristian’s cloak or robe just in the spirit of mischief (and slowing down the process of getting dressed).

Not clothing per se, but Balthazar enjoys using his own brooches to fasten Tristian’s cloak whenever he helps Tristian get dressed- something to serve as a subtle touch of connection even when they’re apart. Tristian always waits until they’re apart to check what he’s been given. It’s a pleasant ritual to discover it, and it’s a point of comfort to reach for over the course of the day. He always returns Balthazar’s things very carefully at the end of the day.

14. How do their personalities complement each other? How do they clash?

The ways they clash are probably more obvious. Tristian is earnest to a fault and a person with very strong moral principles that he lives by (theoretically), while Balthazar is an ambitious person who often gets what he wants through deceit and trickery. There's a lot of natural tension between them- for a long time after meeting they really didn't like each other at all. Balthazar was quick to write Tristian off as dull and uptight, while Tristian rankled at the callous disregard Balthazar had for others. Tristian is also someone who clings a lot to an ideal of celestial virtue that Balthazar has spent most of his life trying to get away from. Even though the initial hostility faded there's still always some degree of friction. It can seem that Balthazar is too careless or too cold, or that Tristian demands too much without compromise. Always some arguments in there.

As for complementing... really, some of the clashes can be ways they cover each other's weaknesses at times. Neither cold pragmatism nor strong optimism can solve every problem- there's a sort of balance there, in a way. Or at the least a way to keep Balthazar's Machiavellian tendencies in check. And also I guess I'd like to think that their positive traits can influence one another as well- Tristian being a bit more flexible and better able to see nuance in a situation, and Balthazar becoming more open and trusting. Maybe this doesn't really count as a "complementary" thing but also like... the ability to be very earnest with one another. Balthazar is someone who doesn't let his guard down easily, but over time he begins to trust Tristian to understand his experiences without condescending to him about them. While Tristian isn't as obviously closed off as Balthazar is, he still doesn't put himself out there easily and feels a lot of shame confronting things about himself. Balthazar doesn't judge Tristian for any of his choices. He has a lot of empathy for the situation that makes beginning to sort through it easier. (And Balthazar does sincerely love Tristian's flaws, even if Tristian doesn't)

19. How do they feel about PDA?

Not at all self-conscious, that’s for sure. There aren’t a lot of big, dramatic gestures, but certainly there are plenty of small, intimate ones: entwining fingers, leaning into one another, gently brushing hair away from the face, a soft kiss pressed to the hand… It’s about the reassurance of knowing the other is present. It’s also the case that Balthazar is a bit clingy (something that surprises him) and Tristian is somewhat touch starved so…

It's embarrassing to watch, really.

“Okay, Daisy…” he chortles, because it’s absurd that this is the line their conversation has moved to.

“Gatsby? What Gatsby?” she mimics in the most breathy mid Atlantic accent she could muster. Palm up on her forehead and everything dramatic to prove nothing in particular. A jest. A joke. A levity on the situation before them.

“You’re not Daisy.”

“Then which of us is Jay?” There’s that breathy voice again. But this time it’s all-knowing, seductive. Luring him into another game to play.

He doesn’t say a word.

But she does.

“One of us is disrupting the life the others built. Flaunting and saccharine bravado without a care in the world.”

“One of us,” he’s quick to retort, he’s thought about broaching the subject since he saw her again, wasn’t going to bring it up. But now she’s comparing him to a tragically obsessed lover he’s got to play the card — “writes about it.”

He watches her jaw slacken and her face freeze with wide eyes caught in headlights. just as quickly as she was thrown she’s back to being cryptic.

“I’m not Nick,” she laughs off the absurdity as if he hadn’t just rattled her world.

He’s determined, “I’m not dying in a pool before the summer is through.”

“Interpret the classics however you want.” She shrugs and casts her gaze across the way.

I lost the thread, so to speak, and now idk if I'll be able to get it back. Which is a shame, bc for once it actually seemed like a workable idea! I wish I had just left StimuWrite as it was (I'm still not completely sold on it in its base form, anyways, tho it was excellent for a very quick piece I needed to get done for this year's Monster Masquerade on Goatlings), or used 2007 Word or SmartEdit instead, since I have both of those as well, and even typically use Word as my predominant writing program. Ugh. I'll still try, tho; I've always wanted to do a monthly challenge, and while I'd likely never make it to the usual goal post for NaNoWriMo, I could at least set an achievable goal on a daily to weekly basis (or just whenever I felt like writing) and get something done to get me out of my slump. One thing that I do enjoy about StimuWrite is the progress bar, and active feedback in the form of little floating emojis whenever you reach a certain percentage of your goal (which you can set for yourself; default is 200 words).
