At forty-five years old, there’s one day out of the entire calendar year that Eddie dreads like none other.
It’s not his birthday, surprising as that is, and it’s not tax day either (though only because Steve, the angel that he is, elected to take charge of their insane finances ages ago so Eddie doesn't even think about it).
No, it's parent-teacher conference day at his children's school.
Eddie wants to have a strong word with whoever's idea it was to have every meeting take place in a single day. Maybe that shit works for the freaks with only one kid, but he and Steve have three hellraisers in the elementary school, so for them it usually goes like this:
Kid 1: Please help us figure out why she is inciting riots on the playground
Kid 2: Your child is taking up class time getting into complex moral debates with the teacher’s aid
Kid 3: She's a pleasure to have in class — that being said, does she ever talk?
– all within the span of 45 minutes.
Kind of whiplash-y, in Eddie's opinion.
Steve is totally in his element for that shit though. He’s good at distinguishing between when their kid is the problem (which is……..often) and when it’s a reflection of something bigger, and when that's the case, he gets to tap into the snarky, mean-girl side of him that doesn’t come out all that often anymore..
Steve, to Hazel's teacher: I don’t know what to tell you. Hazel makes all kinds of noise at home. We’ll talk to her, but maybe this also warrants a conversation about what’s going on in the classroom that’s making her feel like she can’t when she’s here.
It's sexy as all hell in Eddie’s opinion, or so he attempts to communicate to his husband the literal second they're out of the school when he tries to shove him bodily into the backseat of their car without extracting his hands from Steve’s back pockets.
Steve, managing to push Eddie off him for half a second: Dude – no fucking chance are we having car sex in the parking lot of our daughters’ elementary school. You’re crazy.
Eddie: *pauses to think about the layout of their town*
Eddie: Bet there’s no one in the lot for the cemetery.
Steve: No.
Steve: We can’t get cursed today. I’ve got shit to do.
Eddie: What about the hiking trails?
Steve:
Steve: Yeah, okay.

"This might be the first time someone's deserted me in the middle of a date," Steve said into the phone.
"You aren't counting that one time Sarah left during the movie?" Robin asked.
"She had a family emergency!" Steve exclaimed.
"Right, and I'm definitely going on a date with a dude later."
"You're saying she didn't have a family emergency?"
Steve remembered that date, remembered how she'd even had tears in her eyes when she said her mom called and she had to run home.
"You're gonna unpack that all night, aren't you?" Robin sighed on the other end. "Steve, just go home. Take a week off from trying to get into some poor woman's pants. Leave some of them for me to get into. I beg you."
"What makes you think they'd come running to you?" Steve looked over at a guy standing at the counter of the diner, clearly trying to pick up his order. From the back, he seemed tall, but that could be the black skinny jeans and boots combo.
"Let me talk to them for one minute and I'll have them convinced."
The guy turned as the woman behind the counter walked to the kitchen, his eyes settling on Steve talking on his cell phone at the table in the corner. It's not like there were many people here on a Monday night, nothing else to look at but Steve awkwardly sitting by himself with two glasses on the table.
The guy started to walk over, and Steve recognized him immediately.
"Gotta go, Robs."
"What? How are you done wallowing already?"
He hung up before she could continue, putting his phone face down on the table.
"Well, well, well. Never thought I'd see the day where Steve Harrington shows back up in Hawkins."
Eddie Munson didn't know shit about Steve, never really had. He thought he did, just like everyone else in high school, but the gossip that followed him around never had much truth to it. He really only had two girlfriends for most of high school, and only one of them was serious enough for him to sleep with.
The sleeping around came after his move to Chicago, when he was constantly surrounded by women who would give him all the attention he wanted.
"Never really thought I'd be back," he said with a genuine smile. Kill them with kindness or whatever his grandmother used to say.
It seemed to throw Eddie off at least, his mouth opening and closing around whatever rebuttal he planned.
"So why are you here? Visiting the parents?" Eddie crossed his arms, leaned his hip against the edge of the table.
"Nah, came to visit Dustin Henderson. Staying for a few more days and thought it would be nice to take someone out. I guess she didn't agree," Steve shrugged.
Eddie glanced down at the empty spot across from him, the glass on the table with half of the drink missing. He looked back at Steve's face.
He sat down across from him and smirked.
"So. Come here often, sunshine?"
Steve snorted, shaking his head as he looked up at Eddie.
"Not as often as I would if I was coming to see you," Steve replied, taking a sip of his drink.
Eddie clearly wasn't expecting him to flirt back. He recovered quickly, though.
"I suppose we could fix that, then, huh?"
Steve looked him up and down, taking in the messy bun his curly hair was pulled into, the pen mark on his cheek, tattoos up and down his arm.
"I suppose we could."
Waking up in Eddie Munson's bed was definitely not what he expected when he arrived in Hawkins two days ago, but stranger things had happened.
He opened his eyes to sunlight streaming in through the curtains and Eddie's warm body pressed against his back.
Neither of them had gotten dressed after their shower last night, too tired to do anything more than rinse off the sweat and cum from hours of making each other come undone.
Steve let himself have this. Eddie would kick him out when he woke up, kindly of course, but he'd make it clear to Steve that this was a one night thing. No matter how good it was, Steve wasn't an idiot. He knew Eddie would never actually be interested in a guy like him.
"Mmm. Stop thinkin' s' loud," Eddie's lips brushed against the back of Steve's neck in a half-kiss, sending a shiver down his spine. "'s too early."
Steve smiled to himself, let Eddie's arms tighten around him and hold him close for a bit longer.
"I should probably head back to the Henderson's. Claudia will be worried if I'm not there for lunch," Steve said quietly.
"Just text Dustin, tell him your date went well."
Steve shouldn't get his hopes up. It's not like he was gonna do long distance, and even if he would be willing, there was no way Eddie would.
"I can't lie to him," Steve felt his heart flip flop in his chest at the admission.
Eddie's head lifted and his breath hit the side of Steve's face instead of his shoulder. "Did it not go well? I thought it- well, I thought it went great, actually."
Steve turned in Eddie's arms, facing him, placing his hands on his chest. "It did go well! It did."
"Okay, then…"
"It's just this wasn't exactly a date, was it? You just felt bad for me, probably wanted to see if the rumors were true."
"What rumors?"
"You know. The ones about me sleeping around, being good with my mouth." Steve's eyes searched Eddie's, looking for any hint of recognition. When none came, he continued. "How I let anyone fuck me on the first date?"
Eddie's brows furrowed. "Is that what people say about you?"
"You don't have to act dumb, Eddie. Some of it's true."
Eddie's hands were rubbing up and down his back, making goosebumps appear on his skin. "You are good with your mouth. That one’s true. The rest though? I never believed any of that shit.”
“Really? Why not?”
Eddie’s hand traced along Steve’s only tattoo, a robin placed just under his collarbone. “Because I never gave much thought to rumors. Lord knows most of the ones about me weren’t true.”
Steve thought about all the rumors he’d heard about Eddie in high school.
Back then, he may have believed some of them, but he had firsthand experience with things getting out of hand.
“You can think what you want, but I brought you back here because I genuinely enjoyed talking to you at the diner. I wouldn’t have slept with you if I wanted to get rid of you. Trust me. I’m not really a one and done guy,” Eddies hand cupped his cheek, thumb rubbing along his cheekbone. “If you’re in a rush to go, I can’t stop you. But I think staying in bed with you all morning sounds pretty fuckin’ good.”
Steve’s breath hitched, his heart kicked up in his chest. “You know, I’ve actually never bottomed before last night.”
Eddie’s eyes widened. “Seriously? Never?”
Steve shook his head. “Never found anyone I could trust to be gentle.”
“Was I gentle enough? Shit, you should’ve told me. I used spit as lube, Steve! That couldn’t have been comfortable.” Eddie pulled away a few inches, mumbling to himself in a panic.
“Eddie.” Steve tried to get his attention back on him. “Eds.”
Steve shifted forward, his front pressing against Eddie’s, his half-hard cock finding friction against Eddie’s thigh.
They both groaned as Steve rocked against him again.
“Everything was perfect, Eds. Only thing that would make it better is if I get to watch you come again right now," Steve said against his lips, pushing his hips forward so their cocks brushed against each other.
"Fuck, keep doing that and you'll get your wish, sweetheart."
He was sensitive, worked up from the hot breath against his mouth, the tongue brushing against his bottom lip. Steve couldn't remember the last time he'd been this wrapped up in someone, this attentive to the sounds they made, this focused on making sure they both felt good.
The friction was enough on its own to get Steve to the edge, and if Eddie's moans were anything to go off of, he was right there with him.
Steve never felt safe enough to be loud, not until he had Eddie begging him to make noise.
"C'mon, Stevie. Wanna hear how good you feel. Sounds so good when you can't hold it back," Eddie's hand gripped his hip, tugging him closer. They were both leaking precum, dripping down each other's lengths and losing track of where one of them ended and the other began.
Steve couldn't hold it back, didn't want to anyway. Letting Eddie hear how good he felt was a need.
"You gonna come with me, sweetheart?" Eddie gasped out as he wrapped his hand around both of them, slowing his hips to focus on moving his hand, finding the perfect angle and pace to get them both over the edge.
Steve bit his lip and nodded, barely holding back a whimper as Eddie's grip tightened around them.
"Come for me, Stevie."
Eddie's voice had a direct link to Steve's cock, maybe through the hand wrapped around him. Steve came with a shout, curling forward so his forehead fell against Eddie's shoulder.
He was overstimulated, fighting the urge to buck into his hand and pull away at the same time.
Steve pulled his head back to watch as Eddie groaned, cum hitting both of their stomachs as he worked himself through his orgasm.
They both lay there in silence, Eddie's grip loose around them as they both softened. They'd need to clean up before the cum dried in Steve's chest hairs and made them sticky, but moving seemed like an impossible task.
"You live in Chicago now?" Eddie asked suddenly, making Steve jump. He rubbed his cleaner hand on his back in silent apology.
"Yeah," Steve breathed out. "With Robin Buckley. From band?"
"I know Robin. She used to come to my shows before she moved."
"Small world."
Eddie snorted. "Just Hawkins." Eddie sat up, pulling Steve with him. "You know, the guys in my band have been considering moving to Chicago. Think it's a good place for a metal band?"
Steve searched his face for any clues as to what he was really asking. Certainly he didn't expect Steve to know if a metal band would feel at home somewhere.
"I…guess?" Steve answered.
"I'll just text Robin," Eddie wiped his hand on the sheets and reached over to the bedside table to grab his phone.
"Wait. You keep in touch with Robin?" Steve felt like he was being pranked.
"Not as much as I should, but yeah. We caught up last time she visited her parents." Eddie typed on his phone for a moment, then looked up at Steve with a smirk. "Problem with that?"
"No, I'm just kinda shocked she's never really mentioned it." Steve stood up with shaking legs. "I should probably grab a shower and go."
"You normally a runner?" Eddie asked, amused.
"No? Why do you ask?"
"It's just the second time you've been rushing to leave. Thought I told you I wanted you here."
Steve knew what he wanted, and he knew it was too much, too fast, too ridiculous for Eddie to even consider it.
But maybe, if he played his cards right, maybe he could have Eddie for more than today.
"Shower with me?" Steve settled on, pouting his bottom lip out.
"And then?" Eddie pushed.
Steve didn't know what to do, but he knew what he wanted.
"And then we'll go back to the diner and actually eat something together." Eddie nodded, encouraging him to continue. "And then you give me your number."
"For?"
"Planning our next date."

They don't acknowledge it.
When Steve and Eddie share a bed - which, after that first nightmare-fueled middle-of-the-night phone call a few weeks after spring break, that first quiet "Come over," happens increasingly often until there's hardly a night they can't be found together - they don't acknowledge it.
They don't talk about how, though they start on either side of the bed (a decent space between them if they're in Steve's, elbows knocking if they're in Eddie's), it only takes a few minutes of anxious wakefulness before they tuck themselves together, arms wrapped tight and legs tangled.
It's just an unspoken understanding that Eddie sleeps better with Steve's arms curled around him, that Steve can't sleep without his palm over Eddie's heart, the rhythmic proof that Eddie is still alive beating into his hand.
So they don't acknowledge it.
Not when Steve starts pressing a kiss to the side of Eddie's head as they settle in, or when Eddie begins bringing Steve's hand to his lips before placing it back over his own heart.
And they don't acknowledge it when it starts to bleed over into their waking hours. When sitting next to each other on the couch during movie nights becomes Steve leaning his head on Eddie's shoulder becomes Eddie curled up on top of Steve, their eyes trained on the tv but their fingers tangled together on Steve’s chest.
When Eddie's regular visits to Family Video start and end with a hug that lingers maybe a little longer than strictly necessary and Eddie drapes himself over Steve's back to look at something in the magazine he's reading and they aren't more than an arm's length from each other the whole time Eddie is there.
When Robin sends Steve a raised eyebrow stare across the diner table, Eddie pressed against his side in the booth opposite her. She kicks Steve's leg under the table when he doesn't respond and he kicks her back, raises an eyebrow of his own that says not now.
And so they don't acknowledge it.
They don't acknowledge it until the sleepover when the kids beg Steve and Eddie to stay downstairs with them, to not retreat to Steve's room, to actually be a part of the sleepover like Robin and Nancy whispering in the corner, like Jonathan and Argyle giggling by the fireplace. When the combined forces of Erica's, El's, and Max's puppy dog eyes have him grumblingly setting up another sleeping area for him and Eddie. When Eddie smirks at him and knocks their shoulders together and Steve shrugs with a grin of his own that says I've got a soft spot for my girls, so sue me.
They don't acknowledge it until, after those few minutes of laying still next to each other, Eddie rolls into Steve's arms and Steve presses his lips to the side of Eddie's head and Eddie tugs Steve's hand to his lips and Dustin, observant and tactful as ever, asks, "What, are you two, like, dating now?"
There's a beat of silence before several muffled thumps and Dustin's, "Hey, ow, that hurt, jeez, it was just a question," sound from across the room, both Will and Lucas having kicked him while El smacked his arm. Max's hissed, "You can't just ask people that, Dustin, what the hell," has Robin and Nancy stifling giggles behind their hands.
Meanwhile, after a stiff, frozen moment, Eddie turns to catch Steve's eye and quietly asks, "Are we - ?" at the same time that Steve murmurs, "Do you - ?" They pause, only to speak in sync again when Steve answers, "I mean - " and Eddie says, "If you - "
They pause, matching shy smiles on their faces. Eddie pulls a strand of hair over his mouth, hiding behind it, before taking a deep breath and answering both their questions. "Yeah," he says.
"Yeah?" Steve asks, and the hope in it has Eddie squeezing the fingers still in his grasp.
"Yeah," he says, smiling softly.
"Okay," Steve sighs happily. He pulls Eddie's hair aside, gently presses a kiss to the side of his neck.
Eddie leans into it with a happy sigh of his own. Then he calls across the room, "Hey, Henderson."
The whisper-fight across the room immediately stills as they all turn to Eddie.
"Yeah, we're dating."
For a moment, it feels like everyone is holding their breath, then Dustin says, "Oh. Okay," and Robin calls out, "Congrats, Dingus," and the conversation gradually drifts to another topic.
Steve pulls Eddie closer, nuzzling into the space between his shoulder and neck. Eddie turns, just a little, just enough for Steve to lean down and kiss him, soft, chaste. Eddie leans into it, presses their foreheads together when they part, then settles back into Steve's hold.
"Goodnight, Eddie."
"Goodnight, Steve."
Tomorrow, they both know, there will be more to say. Questions to answer. Explanations to give. But, for now, this is all the acknowledgment they need.

In Your Eyes
Steve Harrington x Best Friend!Reader
2.5k words
Warnings: Pining, fluff, tiny angst
Tumblr media
You loved your job at Family Video. Movies were an obsession of yours, so having access to them at a discount was a great perk. The store was only a few blocks from your house, so you saved tons on gas and could easily bum rides off people when your dad couldn’t loan you the car. The hours didn’t suck, and the pay was decent. The best part of your job, however, was working with friends—except for the moments when Robin Buckley decided to tease you about your love life.
“You know, I’m pretty sure he’s in love with you,” Robin piped up as the two of you grabbed candy from the back for a restock.
You shook your head. “Steve? Yeah, right,” you scoffed.
“Come on. He talks about you all the time, he lights up like a Christmas tree when you enter the room, he kind of can’t keep his eyes off you, he makes me switch shifts with him so he can work with you-”
“Yeah, because he knows he can get me to mop up at the end of the night,” you grumbled, folding your arms across your chest.
Robin smirked. “Because you’re in love with him,” she pointed out.
“In love with who?”
Steve Harrington stood in the doorway, sliding his Family Video vest over his shoulders, ready to start his shift. He cocked an eyebrow at you; you prayed that he couldn’t see how shaky your legs suddenly became.
“John Cusack,” you blurted out, shooting Robin a look that silently begged her to shut her mouth.
Steve nodded slowly. “John Cusack,” he repeated. “He was one of the geeky guys in Sixteen Candles, right? And he was in that movie you dragged me to like five times? The one where he’s got the boom box like this.” He lifted his arms in the air over his head, mimicking one of your favorite movie moments.
“Say Anything,” you confirmed softly, your heart skipping a beat at the sight in front of you. “Yeah, I loved that one.”
The three of you stood in your small circle for a moment, Robin’s eyes darting back and forth between you and Steve as neither you said another word. These silences had been happening more and more lately; part of you wondered if Steve had figured out your feelings and was looking for a way to let you down gently.
In almost all your memories from the time you could walk up through middle school, Steve was there. Even when you wound up in different circles in high school, you would still find him climbing through your window in the middle of the night just to talk or share a snack or listen to music. It wasn’t something his girlfriends liked, but he always assured him that you were just friends.
Just friends. You hated the little twisty feeling that appeared in your stomach when you thought of those two little words. From the moment thirteen-year-old Steve had sat next to you on your bed and pressed his lips to yours for the first time, you were a goner. The funny thing was, you hadn’t even wanted to kiss him; you only agreed because he was your best friend, and he was begged you to let him get this milestone “out of the way”. But by the time he crawled back out your window and was scurrying across the street to his house, you were head-over-heels in love with the boy.
And here you were now, years down the road, still melting at the sight of his stupidly perfect hair and deep brown eyes. Another perk of your Family Video job.
“Well,” Robin finally said, clearing her throat. “Let’s get this candy out there before a customer comes in.” She gave Steve a gentle punch in the arm as the two of you walked past him. “See you out there,” she called over her shoulder as Steve moved to clock in.
As you and Robin walked back to the front of the store, she raised her eyebrows at you.
“You’re really obvious, you know that?” she scoffed. “I don’t get how he doesn’t know you’re nuts about him.”
“Robin!” you hissed, snapping your head towards the office door Steve would be coming through at any moment. “Please!” Robin rolled her eyes, but for once she shut her mouth.
~
“You need to tell him.”
You and Robin laid down on your bed, the English Beat playing on the record player on your dresser. Hanging out after work had turned into dinner had turned into a sleepover; it was just past midnight, and you were at the point of the evening where one of you usually blurted something out just to annoy the other one.
“Enough, Robin,” you muttered, rolling onto your stomach. Your eyes landed on your dresser, where a framed photo of you and Steve sat. It was from your first-ever middle school dance, which Steve had taken you to. Another first the two of you shared. You could still remember the weird feeling in your stomach when Steve placed his hands carefully on your waist during the slow songs; you now recognized that the feeling was butterflies. Almost as if your body knew how you felt about Steve before your brain did.
Robin followed your gaze and lit up at the sight of the photograph. “You two are adorable,” she mockingly gushed. She hopped off the bed and skipped over to the picture. Before she could lift it, she paused, and your heart froze when you remembered what was next to the picture.
A few nights ago, after pining particularly hard over Steve during a movie night, you had locked yourself in your closet and penned a letter to him. In it, you spilled your guts: I love you… I can’t stop thinking about you… I wish you would notice me… It was utterly cringe-worthy, and you had every intention of burning the damn thing. But of course, Robin found it before your lazy ass could toss it in the fireplace.
Her jaw dropped as she snatched the letter and her eyes scanned it quickly. You didn’t even bother getting up to fight her for it; it was nothing she hadn’t already heard you whine about anyway. She finally looked back up at you, her gaze softer now. You clutched your pillow and squirmed awkwardly.
“Don’t laugh,” you half-whispered.
Robin sighed. “Seriously,” she said gently. “You need to tell him.” She left the letter on the dresser and rejoined you on the bed, propping herself up on her elbow. Her devilish grin returned. “Or I will.”
~
The next morning, Robin woke up early and quietly left for her opening shift at Family Video, promising to see you later when you went in for your afternoon shift. So, you happily laid in bed for about an hour before deciding to get up and get yourself ready for the day. After a hot shower, you returned to your room and opened your dresser drawer. As you began to grab your things, you realized that something felt… off.
“Oh no,” you gasped as you scanned the top off your dresser. There were your perfumes… your jewelry box… the photo of you and Steve…
“Where’s the letter?” you choked out, scrambling to move things around, knowing full well that the letter was gone.
You sank to the floor, pulling your towel tighter around you, as if it would somehow protect you from what you knew would be impending embarrassment. “Robin,” you muttered through gritted teeth.
Just as you were planning your revenge, the phone rang. Your mother called your name, shouting that Robin was on the other end. You quickly grabbed the phone you had in your room and answered.
“Robin-”
“Heeeeey,” Robin greeted slowly as you both heard the click of your mother hanging up on her end. “Think you could come in a bit early? Steve, uh, called out today.”
Heat rose to your face. “Robin, did you-”
“Just, uh, come in, okay? We’ll chat once you’re here.” Click.
The tone of fear and nerves was not one you often heard from Robin. You resisted the urge to slam your head against the wall, hoping that somehow your best girlfriend had not destroyed your life.
~
A customer jumped at the sound of the slamming door as you entered Family Video. You made a beeline for the counter, where Robin was sorting a stack of videos. She winced at the sight of you, her cheeks turning deep red.
“Heeeeeey best friend,” she called in a hopeful, sing-song voice.
“Where is it?” you hissed, glancing around to make sure there were no customers in earshot.
Robin cleared her throat and shuffled her feet. “See, funny story….” She glanced up at the ceiling, as if the words she needed were typed above her head. “I kind of… gave it to Steve.”
Several customers looked up at the inhuman screech that came out of your mouth.
“What the hell, Robin?” you groaned, burying your burning face in your hands. “Why would you do that? What did he say?”
“Okay, so,” Robin started. “I, uh, gave Steve the letter in the office. And he read it, I guess. And then he came out and said he was going home… and just walked out.” Robin lifted her hands to her face, as if she thought you would hit her. Which, honestly, sounded like a good idea.
Your chest tightened with anxiety. “And?”
“That’s it,” Robin answered. “I haven’t heard from him since.”
Tears stung in your eyes. Great. Steve now knew you loved him. And he left work so he wouldn’t have to see you, so he wouldn’t have to tell you that no, he did not like you that way. He would probably go on yet another date and laugh about your stupid letter with whatever girl he had on his arm. And he would never, ever speak to you again, except maybe to ask you to switch shifts with him so he could go out with some beautiful girl.
“I’m so sorry,” Robin whispered, interrupting your panicked thoughts. The pain in her eyes melted your heart a bit. Deep down, you knew she had done what she did out of her affection for you. “I thought-”
Sighing, you shook your head. “Let me just clock in,” you said, defeat echoing in your voice.
~
After a long shift, an awkward dinner at Robin’s house, and a quick shower, you planted yourself on your bed, determined to distract yourself with a book. Through your closed window you could hear the distant sound of music as you finally hit a rhythm with your book, but it was muffled under the melancholy sound of The Cure coming from your stereo.
Two quick knocks at the door interrupted you. Your dad poked his head in, exasperation on his face.
“Honeybee?”
“Yeah, Dad?”
Your dad sighed. “Can you tell Steven to go home? I’m trying to sleep, and I have no patience for him and his antics right now.”
“Steve?” Your breath hitched slightly at the mention of his name. This was it. He was on your front porch, letter in hand, ready to confront you over your stupid, stupid crush and tell you that your friendship was over, that eighteen years of laughter and memories was down the drain because you couldn’t help yourself from writing that letter and Robin couldn’t help meddling.
You jumped out of bed and scurried past your dad, begging your heart to quiet down, praying that Steve wouldn’t be able to hear it. It was so loud in your ears that you once again were barely noticing the music that continued outside as you reached the front door. Taking a deep breath, you reached out and turned the doorknob.
As you opened the door, you finally recognized the sound of one of your favorite REO Speedwagon songs wafting across the yard to you. But your attention was focused on the sight on your lawn:
Steve Harrington, King Steve, your Steve, was standing in the middle of the grass, his hair more tousled than usual, with his arms in the air, holding up the boom box that usually sat in his room. From the boom box you could hear the words-
And even as I wander, I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
You let your eyes wander down from the boom box to Steve’s face. At the sight of you in the porchlight, his whole body seemed to soften, and you swore you heard him let out a gentle sigh. You quietly closed the door behind you and stepped off the porch. Steve met you in the middle of the sidewalk, allowing his boom box to fall to his side and setting it on the ground between you.
“I couldn’t find that Peter Gabriel song,” Steve blurted, gesturing at the still-playing boom box. “So I thought… I mean you like REO, right? You play them all the time in the car.” He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, blinking rapidly and rubbing his fingers together.
You’d seen Steve flirt plenty of times with plenty of girls. He was confident, charming, funny, and incredibly sure of himself. He made jokes and smirked and offered sly compliments. And he often left the interaction with plans for a date, shooting cocky winks at you and Robin. But that wasn’t Steve right now. His eyes were full of uncertainty as they flickered everywhere but your own eyes.
“Steve, what’re you doing?” You took a small step towards Steve, trying to make everything make sense.
A flicker of that King Steve grin flashed across his face. “You said the end of Say Anything was the most romantic thing you’ve ever seen. So, I thought I’d give it a shot.”
In spite of your nerves, you couldn’t help but smile back. “And why in the world would you do that?”
“So I can do this.”
Steve took your face in his hands and tugged you towards him, pressing his lips to yours for the second time in your life. Just like last time, your heart skipped several beats and your mind was filled with nothing but Steve. Sighing into the kiss, you wrapped your arms around his waist, pulling his body against yours, wondering how you’d survived going this long between lip locks with Steve Harrington.
When Steve finally pulled back, you both broke out into fits of shy giggles, giddiness evident on both of your faces.
“That was a hell of a lot better than last time,” Steve teased, giving your nose a small peck.
Rolling your eyes, you gave him a little shove. “Yeah, looks like you finally know what you’re doing, Harrington.”
His eyebrows flew up. “Oh, that’s how it is, huh?”
“Yeah,” you breathed, pulling him back in for another kiss. “That’s how it is.”

The sun had begun setting in the small town, the burnt twinge of orange and yellow tumbling over the sky where clouds grew drabber and the bright blue following behind. The air was the perfect kind of crisp that blew smoothly against your legs and face, easing the warmth that had developed from the hours of stretches, flips, kicks, and jumps.
All of the others girl had left the parking lot, only leaving you behind, though Chrissy was kind enough to offer you a ride, but you knew Eddie was going to there any minute. And so you beamed when his van came turning into the school zone, the music slowly being turned down as he saw you standing outside the gym already approaching his car.
“How was practice, baby?” He hailed out towards the open passenger window, smiling widely.
You rolled your eyes playfully, opening the door to toss your things into the backseat before settling into the soft velvet cushion beside him. Eddie was already jutting his chin out towards you when you giggled, holding a hand on his cheek to stabilize yourself and pressing your lips together.
He tasted like mint and cigarettes. A combination that you’d never get sick of because despite how much you hated that he smoked those cancer sticks, he always chewed a piece of gum before ever trying to go in for a kiss with you.
“I can’t wait to shower.” You groaned, combing your fingers through your oily hair when he finally started driving away from the school.
Cheer practice was always muggy and gross. Getting tossed in the air time and time again, then proceeding to touch the sweaty mats that everyone practically laid on and touched made you feel icky. It was always routine for you to get into a shower after practice and scrub the living daylights out of your skin.
Eddie looked over at you, cursing under his breath a little at his forgetfulness.
“Shit! Sorry, babe, but Henderson called—he asked if we could swing my Joyce and Hops.”
You shrugged, shaking your head not bothered by the pit-stop since it was always nice to see the kids especially since you were so busy these days.
The only time you really got to see them was if Eddie had a campaign that ran late or on weekends when Eddie was in charge of dropping them off and picking them up.
“It’s fine, as long as I get a shower in the next few hours. Did he say why?”
He shook his head, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. “He sounded panicky and annoyed. A lot of voices and music in the background, though.”
“Well, panicky and annoyed, isn’t unusual?” You quipped, and he cackled, switching lanes to take the route.
“We’ll find out in a little bit.”
The Byers-Hopper living room had now been infiltrated by all the younger teens, including the older ones: Nancy, Jonathan, Robin, and Steve. The older four had been called to by Dustin, begging them to come over and show them a few dance moves that they could use for the winter formal.
But bless Dustin Henderson’s heart, because while they might have had a few proms and formals as dance experience, none of them were “experts” at dancing — or at least none met his standards.
For god's sake, even Nancy and Jonathan, who were a couple since forever, looked like a pair of stiff bodies moving back and forth when they tried to demonstrate how to dance when a slow song came on.
And you would think that someone as charming as Steve would have some sort of groove when it came to dancing, but Jesus, no, he looked even more rigid and awkward.
Don’t even get them started on Robin, who bursted out in laughter when she tried to dance with Steve but failed within the first three seconds because she had accidentally stomped on his foot thinking she was leading.
It even came to the point where they confided in Hopper and Joyce who had arrived home from work to their living room furniture pushed against the walls to make room for a makeshift dance floor. A cassette played loudly through the radio and everyone seemed to be a jumbling mess.
Well, the mess became even bigger when Hopper and Joyce tried to show them a move or two, which just ended up with everyone laughing and burying their faces in their hands at the scene. El, Will, and Jonathan cringed more so than laughed, but now they knew their parents were probably the worst dancers than themselves at than alone was a core memory.
That’s when Dustin threw in the towel and decided to make a call to his dear friend Eddie. Eddie who was about to leave his trailer to pick you up from practice so you could get home and shower, then finish the movie you two fell asleep to last night.
But nevertheless, Dustin sounded frantic and desperate, begging for him to bring you over and alas Eddie gave in.
The boy finally saw the van pull into the driveway and shot up from the couch where he had been resting, watching through the window.
“Shut the music off, Steve!” He shouted, stumbling up and towards the front door.
Everyone rose their brows, Steve following Dustin’s instruction and pausing the cassette that El had let them borrow for the day’s impromptu dance party. Before you and Eddie could even knock on the door, it was pulled open.
The scene of everyone staring at the metal head and cheerleader, quite shocking actually—more shocking than the stares in the hallways at school, which were pretty dreadful already.
You side-eyed Eddie suspiciously wondering what he had gotten you both into before looking back at Dustin.
“Hi?” you squeaked suspiciously, twiddling your hand in the air to greet everyone who waved.
The boy smirked, grabbing you by the wrist and pulling you inside roughly without a second thought.
“Dustin, what the hell!” You shrieked having no choice but to move with him in order to avoid tripping over your own feet.
Eddie rolled his eyes, stepping inside and shutting the door closed.
“Henderson, you’ve got three seconds to tell me why you’re dragging my girlfriend like a rag doll.”
Dustin apologetically bowed towards Eddie, dropping your arm and gesturing to the open floor.
Everyone else was either leaning up against the wall or sitting down on the couch, trying to get some rest after the young boy practically forced them to keep dancing until they had something, but nothing was good enough for the damn twerp.
“You know how to dance, right?” Dustin stared at you, and you bounced on your heels, nodding your head slightly.
“I mean, cheerleading does require some dancing but—“
Dustin shushed you, causing you to furrow your brows, and looked around dumbfounded at the action. Steve and Robin were already shooting you sorry looks as they muttered something about his tone and needing a smack to the head.
“Henderson, just tell us why we’re here?” Eddie rubbed at his temples.
He plopped on the empty seat next to Max who looked rather peeved at being stuck there all afternoon when she could have been at the arcade playing Dig-Dug.
She turned to him, gesturing in the air with annoyed hands. “Dustin wants us to learn how to dance for this weekend’s formal.”
Lucas pipped in, looking at the crowd before settling on you. “No one knows how to dance except you.”
A small smile grew upon your face, looking around the room at the sullen faces that were offended at Lucas’ words — mostly Hopper and Joyce, because back in their day, they were pretty darn good dancers if they said so themselves.
Eddie sat up from his spot on the couch, shooting a deceitful look at Lucas while gesturing fondly to himself.
“What? You don’t think she’s the only good dancer around here do you?”
Mike grunted, mumbling under his breath, “You sure don’t look like you knew how to command a dance floor.”
Everyone seemed to agree with Mike, which was extremely rare, even for Hopper who didn’t like the kid all that much.
You crossed your arms, shaking your head at the little shitheads and more offended that they thought your boyfriend couldn't dance.
“Hey! Did you forget Eddie is in a band? He practically eats, sleeps, and breathes rhythm.” You reasoned with a tilt of your head, trying to sway them.
Everyone tried to stifle their laughter but failed terribly. I mean could you blame them?
Eddie played metal music, not that pop disco shit that would be playing at the formal, but that’s because they thought wrong about him. They all thought they had your boy all figured out as the stereotypical metal head that couldn’t dance to save his life, but you were about to make them eat their words.
Contrary to popular beliefs, Eddie was quite the dancer, and a good one at that. He knew how to keep up the pace and swoop you off your feet so smoothly you’d think he was a professional in his past life.
You shot Eddie that look, lifting your shoulders with the silent offer as he looked almost coy before nodding at you, scooting off the couch and shaking his arms off getting himself warmed up.
You glanced at Steve, pointing at the stereo, “Hit it!”
Eddie moved across the floor to you effortlessly, hands going for your hips while you draped yours over his neck — you were like magnets easily finding each other. Your feet slid back and forth, one after the other, following Eddie’s lead that flowed with the music.
“How did you guys know Eddie and I love to dance to ABBA?” You called towards your friends who watched in astonishment.
“You can dance?!” they screeched, eyes widening as they all straightened up in their seats and off the walls, watching with the utmost surprise and shock.
You began to giggle as your boyfriend spun you around into his chest, swaying you both while he placed a kiss on your cheek before spinning you back out.
“Just like the songs says, you just gotta feel the beat.” Eddie rose his brow at them, moving your hips in his hands before you shook your head at his playfulness.
“C’mon, we’ll show you.” You told them, pushing at his chest so that you could skip on over towards Dustin, pulling him to the center of the living room with you.
Eddie went for Max, tilting his head for her to follow his lead and not be so nervous.
“It’s really all about keeping the pace and the beat.” He instructed, looking down at their shoes and Max did her best to not step on his sneakers that were already pretty beat up.
“And loosen up,” you chided, nudging Dustin a bit, “relax those shoulders and move those hips.” You instructed, showing him to roll his shoulders back and swirl his lower body as if he was hula-hooping.
After a while, they started to get the hang of it, easily moving across the floors without stepping on each other’s feet and not being so tense.
“Great, now you two try!” You nodded, handing off Dustin towards Max.
It was awkward at first, the both of them laughing as they didn’t know where to put their hands, but quickly it became natural with what you and Eddie had taught, the basics of keeping up with the rhythm and singing along.
You huffed with hands on your hips, looking around the room for your next student, while Eddie had already grabbed Joyce who was a giggly mess.
“C’mon Mr. Hips, I know they don’t call you king Steve for nothing.” You teased, tiptoeing towards your friend and pulling him along with you.
Before you knew it, the living room was a lively dance floor. Bodies grooving along to music without even second guessing if they were doing it right and just having fun with each other as they sung and tried not to bump into the pair beside them.
“Maybe we should open up a studio and start teaching some classes?” You suggested with a grin, resting your chin on Eddie’s chest, staring up at him.
He chucked, pecking at your nose sweetly, “Don’t get ahead of yourself babe, you know my dancing services are limited to you. This was just a special occasion.”
“Do you have any other talents you want to reveal?” Dustin nudged him with his elbow, prompting Eddie to smirk toward him before looking back at you.
“I can do a pretty gnarly lift, exactly like that one in Dirty Dancing.” He bragged, still pretty surprised at himself that he was able to pull it off.
The girls in the room gasped, including Steve, “No way!”
“Yes way,” You bit your lip with a giggle, remembering that one afternoon you and Eddie had spent together trying to get it down after you had watched the movie.
Steve dropped Robin’s hand, wandering over to the stereo and pausing the track before picking it up by the handle and walking towards the front door. Everyone stared at him, waiting until he sighed, one hand on his hip as he looked at you and Eddie.
“You guys need more room than this. We’re moving outside and that lift better be top tier.” He warned towards Eddie, walking out the front door as everyone else followed his lead.
You and Eddie laughed at how ridiculous it all was — surely none of the kids were going to attempt to pull off a lift in the middle of their formal dance, but it was sure gonna be funny watching everyone else have their try at it.
Eddie hoisted you up, prompting you to laugh into the crook of neck, “C’mon baby, I’m about to blow their socks off.” He said, kissing your cheek with an obnoxiously loud smooch before carrying you out the door.
So maybe you didn’t get to go home and get that shower or finish that movie as soon as you would have liked to, but you sure did get to dance that afternoon away with the love of your life and that in itself was a win.

It’s sunset by the time his shift at Scoops concludes. He serves the last few remaining customers while Robin less than kindly ushers out the loitering teenagers that have stuck around all day.
A group of moms clad in vividly colored spandex tells him “we’re being bad today” like some sort of mantra that makes them feel better about ordering plain vanilla ice cream. Some middle school aged girls with a mouthful of braces, crimped hair in pigtails, and absolutely wreaking of fruity perfume and daddy’s money try helplessly to flirt with him while they use a matte black card to purchase a banana boat sundae.
His last customers of the night are an old married couple, all gray and wrinkly and smiling like life’s still so new to them. They order one strawberry cone to share between them and hold onto each other’s shaking, frail hands as they make their exit.
Steve smiles as he watches them go. He sees a lot of you and him in them. He hopes by the time you both are all old and brittle, you’ll still be happy like that, still so in love.
Working in the downstairs abyss of Starcourt makes him feel crazy sometimes. With no windows and only manufactured fluorescent lighting for ten hours straight, it makes time feel less and less real.
Sometimes he’ll be in before sun out and cower like some sort of vampire when his shift is over. Other times, he’ll come out when it’s pouring down rain and be absolutely baffled at the sight of it because it was perfectly sunny when his shift started.
Everything else but ice cream all but ceases to exist in the hole of Scoops Ahoy — weather, time, life.
Even though it’s closing when he leaves, Steve doesn’t realize how dark it’s gotten outside until he’s walking through the desolate parking lot to his car. The bustling mall has fallen asleep with the rest of the town. The sky has long turned to a navy velvet, the stars and full moon bright white silk.
It makes his limbs heavy and his eyelids heavier as his tired bones ache for rest.
Steve makes the longer drive out to the cabin rather than his own home to see you. Hopper’s out for some conference which means El gets to spend every ounce of her time at the Wheeler’s and you and Steve get to play house.
He doesn’t bother to knock before he comes in. He shuffles through the entrance like his feet are made of lead and leans his weight against the door after he clicks it closed.
The sound of his arrival gets your attention from where you scurry around the kitchen. A smile pulls slowly at your face as you turn over your shoulder to look at him, placing a cover over a pot of something that smells like your infamous chicken alfredo.
“Hey, Stevie,” you greet with a beam and a sort of sunshine in your voice that Steve’s been missing all day.
His body relaxes for the first time since he got up this morning at the sight of you, freshly showered and in your pajamas for the night — an oversized t-shirt that definitely didn’t belong to you before, because it used to be his.
You look more like home than any four walls could ever be to him.
Steve tries his best to give you a smile in return, but it’s weighed down by fatigue and not all there.
You can see it all over him, every ounce of exhaustion on his lax and tired features. Slinging ice cream for less than grateful customers for ten hours straight has taken an obvious toll on him. The bright blue sailor’s uniform makes him look more boyish, but no less tired — or hot.
Your heart swells at how cozy he looks, fatigued and warmed and in dire need of being taken care of. It makes you glad that you started dinner earlier than normal, even happier that you’ve got the house to yourselves.
You exit the kitchen and walk the short distance to him, taking his scruffy cheeks in your palms and rubbing your thumbs against his cheeks.
“Hard day?” you wonder softly and smile to himself when you feel Steve nestle further into your touch.
The boy hums lowly in reply — neither a yes or a no, but a short hmph that means he doesn’t want to talk about it now. He doesn’t like thinking about work when you’re in his arms and all over him. He’d rather pretend like you’re the only thing that exists and let the rest of the world slip slowly away.
He turns his face to kiss the inside of your wrists. You smell like lavender, he finds, and it makes him that much more tired and needy for you.
His hands settle on your arms, fingers wrapping themselves just below your wrists. “Just tired,” he answers finally. “How was your day?”
“Better than yours, I’m assuming,” you quip with a smile. Your hands drag from his face, down the tense columns of his neck, and settle at the white lapel of his uniform. Steve lets you pull him down by his red neckerchief until his lips press against yours, the pillows of them far cozier than the bed and blanket he so craves right now.
He grows somehow heavier against you. He exhales deeply through his nose as his aching muscles start to relax, the warmth of it brushes against your cupid’s bow. His hands fall to your back and ball into your shirt as he clutches so ardently onto you, as though terrified he might have to go another agonizing ten hours without you.
Your smile contorts against his mouth. A laugh exhales sharply through your nose at this tired boy, exhausted and too willing to let you swallow him whole.
As much as you want to take care of you him, you want him to get a little food in his belly and fresh clothes on his skin.
He’s got freshly laundered cottons sitting in a drawer you cleaned out in your room especially for him and a pot of his favorite food simmering on the stove. He’ll be golden in an hour or more and you’ll happily take care of him then.
Steve whines when you pull away from him. The pathetic sound bubbles from his throat and his face screws up like you’ve actually pained him by not kissing him more. He ducks down, looming over you, as his lips chase yours.
You giggle at him, letting him kiss you — one, two, three quick pecks and a fourth sweeter, more drawn-out one he presses against you as the two of you stumble back into the living room.
“You need to eat first, okay?” you protest when you part from him again, lips clicking wetly as they separate. “You probably haven’t had anything all day.”
“I had half a banana in the break room at lunch,” he retorts, half-heartedly.
“Exactly,” you scold. “Go get changed and then we can eat, ‘kay?”
“If you wanted to see me naked so bad, you could’ve just said.”
You roll your eyes at him and how he’s still so sly despite being so damn tired. You push playfully against his chest and squirm out from under where he’d cornered you between his body and the back of the couch. “You smell like a sundae and cheap cologne—”
“Blame those assholes from Abercrombie.”
“—hit the showers, Harrington,” you tell him with a playful sternness, swatting him on the ass as you pass by him.
The action stopped surprising him a long time ago. He’d complained relentlessly about corporate and the stupid outfit they made him wear to work every morning until he realized how much you liked it.
After that, Steve figured he could put up with the itching and the chaffing and the weird stares from other mall-goers. As long as it meant you being unable to keep your hands off of him, dropping to your knees in front of him before he left for work, visiting him at lunch because you just had to see him again.
“You comin’ too, or…?” he jokes in reply, already inching towards the bathroom, but secretly hoping you’ll say yes.
You refuse to amuse him, though, and instead tell him that you have to keep stirring the pasta so it won’t burn. He’s too tired and too excited to wash all the muck of the long workday from his body to beg.
You knew just what he needed — like you always do. He’s as good as gold by the time he gets out of the shower, smelling of your shampoo and practically glittering at how good he feels.
His skin gets to breathe for the first time all day when he slips on a pair of boxers and a faded forest green Hawkins High sweatshirt. They’re freshly washed. He can tell by how soft they feel and the way they smell of fresh detergent.
It makes his heart swell.
While he’s been slinging ice cream and questioning all of his life choices, you’ve been washing his clothes, folding them and putting the in their own drawer in your dresser. You’ve been cooking him his favorite dinner, knowing he hasn’t eaten all day, because you know everything about him.
You do it all because you love him. You don’t have to think twice about it before you so effortlessly take care of him.
He swears you’ll feed him if he begs hard enough, but Steve hasn’t reached that level of tiredness yet. He does, however, force you to sit halfway in his lap while the both of you opt to eat on the couch in the living room rather than the kitchen table.
A repeat of Miami Vice plays on the tiny television across the room and you tell him about what you’d done on your day off in between shoveling forkfuls of pasta into your mouth with your legs slung into his lap.
Most of it was spent taking care of chores, a feat made harder without Hopper and El to take on the extra workloads but easier because their absence meant less shit to get done.
You drove Dustin and Lucas to the Wheeler’s house later that morning, then doubled back across Hawkins when Max called and all but begged you to free her from the hellscape on Cherry Lane, as she so lovingly put it. You picked her up and dropped her off with the rest of her friends.
And even though they all swore they had rides back home, they’d called again some hours later and asked too sweetly if you could take them back across town.
You complain and grumble about it, but you do it for them anyway.
Because you take care of people. That’s just what you do.
“So you were a personal chauffeur for a bunch of kids all day?” Steve jokes and laughs to himself as he swipes a smudge of alfredo sauce from your chin with his thumb
“Basically,” you nod in reply.
When that’s all done — and the episode is over and the dishes are in the sink and your teeth are freshly brushed — you tell Steve to get into bed, and then to get his head out of the gutter at the look he gives you after.
He’s pleasantly surprised when you bring a whole basket of things from the bathroom and into your bedroom. He watches silently, obediently, as you light a candle on the far side of the room before climbing into bed beside him.
“Scoot down a little,” you tell him. “And take off your shirt.”
He does it all without question. He rises, strips himself of his top, and tosses the thing mindlessly on the floor beside the bed. With his lean torso and bare chest on display, spotted with tufts of chestnut-colored hair and smelling of your body wash, he lazes back onto the bed again with his head on the pillows.
Steve holds his breathe when you straddle his chest.
“Comfy?” you ask him quietly.
He can only nod in response.
His eyes are wide, twinkling with love and curiosity. It makes you smile. He’s always so soft in his way, so compliant with you — and, fuck, if you don’t love how he looks when he’s underneath you.
You lean down to press a chaste kiss to the chiseled tip of his nose then reach for one of the many bottles stacked inside the wicker basket. You drip the rose-scented liquid onto a cottonpad and tell him that it’s cleanser.
“I thought I was already clean?” he retorts.
“Well, this shit is gonna make ya glow like a baby, Harrington,” you tell him and swipe the stuff up and down his face — across his forehead, along his nose, and around his stubbly jaw. “Which means it’s perfect for you.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Means you’re a baby,” you quip once, then smile lovingly down at him. “My baby,” you correct.
“Damn straight,” he hums with a soft smile, then shuts his eyes when you trade the cleanser for what you call a liquid exfoliator. He doesn’t ask what that means. He doesn’t say much of anything really, because he’s enamored with the way you dote on him.
Your day has been just as busy as his, maybe not as mind-numbing, but still busy. You’ve been bouncing all across town, trying to make sure a bunch of kids weren’t putting themselves in total danger — Steve knows firsthand how hard that can be.
And yet, you keep caring for him, like it’s more important than how tired you must be.
The way you’ve settled on top of him is just a bonus. It’s not as domineering as you usually are in this position, straddling your legs over him and forcing his face between your legs with your fingers tangled in his hair. He wouldn’t have minded if that’s what you’d done in the first place. He would’ve thanked you for it, really.
It’s comforting more than it is anything, the subtle weight of you on top of him, keeping him grounded.
You rub something that feels like lotion into his skin. The tips of your fingers massage his face — they dig softly into his temples, relieving all the strain there, then trace around his curve of his jaw. Steve sighs and melts into your touch. It makes you laugh.
“Look at you,” you giggle, all soft like the moonlight streaming in rays from the windows. Then you tease him. “My baby’s gettin’ all pampered tonight, huh?”
“That stuff smells really good,” he notes. “Think it’s safe enough to taste?”
You know he’s joking, but you flick him in the center of his freshly moisturized forehead anyway, when his tongue darts out the side of his mouth to lick around his lips.
“You’re such an idiot,” you scold with a laugh. “There’s no way we’re gonna be able to have a kid if you keep acting like one, Steve Harrington.”
The boy's eyes fly open. “…A kid?” he repeats in something short of a whisper.
You only hum in reply with a little shrug like you’re trying to play it all off. Like you didn’t just drop the biggest bomb on him and left him to pick up the pieces. Like it isn't the sweetest goddamn thing he’s ever heard in his life (even though you are sort of making fun of him).
“You want a kid with me?” he presses, eyes sparkling and full of hope.
“‘Course I do,” you shrug again, focusing on capping the moisturizer and putting it away rather than meeting his intense gaze. “Want anything and everything with you, Stevie.”
The boy doesn’t bother to hide the grin your words put on his face. He’s all but beaming from where he lays beneath you, trying to make sure he’s still breathing because his heart has started to flutter something fierce.
It was something the two of you only ever talked about in passing — usually him bringing up the idea of having kids and you swatting them all down.
“We’re too young,” you tell him. “We’re too broke”, “we’re too dumb.” The occasional “my dad is literally in the next room, he’ll kill you if he hears you talking like that” shuts him up real quick.
But here you are now, telling him you want a baby with him, that you want everything with him. It drives him absolutely insane.
“Yeah?” he hums in response, idle hands rising and settling upon your bare thighs, rubbing at the smooth skin there, petting you almost. The room gets suddenly and unbearably hot with the look he gives you, innocent and knowing and hungry.
You feel him shift from underneath you, the hardening cock in his boxers making it hard to stay as comfortable as he had been.
“You wanna be a mommy, honey?” he all but coos. “Wanna take care of our kids like you take care of me?”
Though his words set a fire in the pit of your stomach, the tone of them makes you roll your eyes. It’s like flipping a light switch when it comes to Steve. It takes next to nothing to turn him into a puddle of mush.
He’s always raring to go when it comes to you, and you’d be lying if you said it was totally invigorating.
“What happened to my sweet, sleepy, baby Stevie, huh?” you tease, hands leaving his face to caress the ones he’s got resting on your thighs. “Thought you were too tired?”
He shakes his head defiantly. “Never too tired for you.”
“I’m supposed to be taking care of you,” you scold with bubbly laughter when you feel his large hands trail up your legs. His finger falls beneath your shirt, the tips of them sneaking into the rounded hems of your underwear, all but cupping your ass to drag you further up his chest.
He’s practically salivating at the mere thought of tasting you. Of knowing that the only thing separating you from him is a couple of inches and the thin fabric of your underwear.
He knows that when he slides them to the side, you’ll be wet and needing him underneath, slick enough for his tongue to slip right in.
And, truth be told, oral sex wasn’t the easiest when you weren’t alone. It was too precarious of a position. If Hopper knocked on the door and barged in hardly a moment later, you needed to break away quickly.
So when your dad and little sister were home, it was easier to use your hands to get each other off. And, maybe, if Steve was real good, you’d let him fuck you.
But his mouth on you? There wasn’t enough good he could be for you to let him do that, not when your father was on the other side of the door in the living room. Because you’re pretty sure death would be easier than your dad catching Steve Harrington giving cunnilingus to his daughter. You’re pretty sure you’d die on the spot, anyway.
But Hopper is miles away. Your sister is on the other side of town. And you’re alone with your boyfriend, hidden away in a cabin in the middle of the woods. It’s the perfect recipe for the best sex of your life.
“Don’t care,” Steve murmurs, pressing kisses to the inner parts of your thigh when he settles you more intently over his shoulders. “Wanna make you feel good.”
“Yeah?” you croon. From below you, the boy notes the arched brow and knowing glint in your eye that usually means trouble. “Daddy wants to make mommy feel good, huh?”
Steve knows exactly why you said it. Why you chose to say it like that. It’s the same reason you brought up the kid thing in the first place. Because you knew it would drive him crazy.
And it’s not like you ever had to try to make him mental, all you really had to do was walk into a room and he was done for. But you didn’t just want to just make him go insane, you wanted to ruin him.
And you know you’ve done just that when a groan spills from his mouth and two strong hands dig rather ruthlessly into your hips. He pulls you down without warning, pressing your clothed pussy closer to his face and dragging his nose between your covered lips. A moan leaves your mouth in a heavy exhale when the tip of it nudges your clit.
“Like being called daddy, huh?” you tease through bated breaths.
Steve nods in reply as he hooks a finger through the hem of your panties and slides them to the side, putting your pretty, glistening pussy on display for him.
He was right about what he said before — you were soaked.
All but drunk on the sight of you, he presses open-mouthed kisses to your inner thigh. “Like the other thing, too,” he mumbles against your skin, like he’s hiding himself there.
“The other thing?” you question with pinched brows. The confusion ebbs like a rolling tide as you realize: “Oh. You wanna call me mommy, Stevie?” you ask with a joking lilt.
“Shut up,” he groans against you.
He’s pleasantly surprised when your hand grabs the strands of his hair like reigns, pulling him back just before he puts his mouth on your pussy. He’s even more stunned at the stern expression taking over your features, not nearly as playful as you’d been moments before.
Suddenly you’re ten feet tall, and he’s nothing more than an ant, at the mercy of your boot.
“That’s no way to talk to your mommy, is it, Stevie?”
He shakes his head with glazed over eyes. “Sorry.”
“Sorry… what?”
There is an underlying tone in your voice, something teasing and yet somehow serious all at once. It’d make him roll his eyes if he weren’t lying beneath you like this. Now, with your pussy mere inches from his face, he isn’t quite sure how to be anything but obedient.
“Sorry, mommy,” he corrects.
A flip switches and you’re smiling again. “Good boy,” you praise and it makes his cock twitch in the confines of his boxers. Your hand guides him to your pussy again.
Steve’s always been good at oral. A little too good, actually. It made you jealous sometimes, to know that his technique has been perfected over years of experience.
“All the other girls were just practice for you, honey,” he’d soothe your seething rage with a wink and a tongue shoved deep into your cunt.
You believe him now, that every other girl was just an obstacle for him to get to you, because no one’s had him like this. No one will ever have him like this.
You’re the one who’s got him on his back with his mouth on your pussy. You’re the one who’s got him calling you mommy.
And it makes you feel like a fucking giant.
He wastes little time to envelope your cunt with his mouth. You feel the muffled grunt he lets out at the tangy and familiar taste of you. His tongue pushes into your cunt, licking you with the intent of devouring you entirely. His nose presses intently against your clit, prodding the little button as you ride his face. He encourages every thrust, guiding your hips up and down his mouth.
“Fuck, Stevie,” you whine and feel him smile drunkenly against your pussy, never ceasing his assault against your sensitive skin.
Your head falls back, suddenly too heavy to hold up. Your gaze settles on the ceiling, though you’re not exactly looking at it, and moans fall from your open mouth and into the heavy air — billowing laments in the moonlight.
“You make me feel so good,” you murmur to yourself, but to him especially, knowing he turns into a ticking time bomb when he’s praised. “Always make mommy feel so fucking good, baby.”
He groans against you, and it makes your hips twitch over his face.
Your head turns and your glazed over eyes fall on the hard cock trapped in his underwear. It’s more than apparent against the thin fabric with a wet patch of precum darkening the plaid cotton. The sight of it, paired with his lips wrapped around your clit, makes you moan most pitifully.
“Fuck, Steve,” you cry. “You’re gonna make me come. Holy shit, baby— gonna come so hard in your mouth.” The promise makes Steve double his efforts against you, wanting nothing more than to taste every drop you can give him. “I’ll ride you after, 'kay? Make you come so hard you can’t see straight. Fuck. I’m so fucking close.”
You figure his muffled whine is an affirmative.
“If you make me come now, maybe I’ll let you come inside me—”
You barely get to finish your sentence before Steve’s wrapping his arms around your thighs and keeping you pressed against his face. His tongue works overtime inside of your cunt, attentively flicking against every part of your velvet walls that it can reach, while his nose nudges your clit most relentlessly.
It has you reaching your climax within seconds, hips jerking against him while his hold on you tightens. Steve only lets you go when he’s certain you’ve ridden out every inch of your orgasm.
You’re shaking and half-numb when you unfold your body from his and settle next to him on the bed. You press yourself over him as your lips swallow his, tasting yourself on his mouth that glistens with you.
Your torso is splayed over his bare one, knees digging into the mattress at his side as you arch your back to push yourself further into him.
“Was that good for you?” he mutters after you’ve pulled away, sliding the tip of your nose up and down the bridge of his.
A laugh escapes you in a sharp scoff. If he couldn’t have felt how good it was for you — after you all but writhed against him — surely he must’ve tasted it dripping like honey from your cunt.
“It’s always good,” you assure him, then murmur more quietly, “Always so good for mommy.”
You keep the promise you’d made him no more than minutes beforehand. You pull down his boxers at the same time he’s trying to get you out of your shirt, and it’s just a mess of yearning limbs until the both of you are naked.
You rub yourself over his cock a few times, getting it all slick with you in the place of lube, because you know taking him is never an easy feat. The stretch of his dick inside you is always delicious but fuck if it doesn’t burn. It’s like fire in every sense of the word, hot and filthy paired with a distant ache.
Steve lets you set the pace as you get used to his length nestled deep inside your velvet. His hands rest compliantly on your hips as you grind against him, honeyed gaze fixed on your fucked out features as you take him — brows pinched, eyes squeezed shut, bottom lip trapped between your teeth.
Then, when every inch of him is snug in your cunt and your senses return to you, you deny him of his want to touch you. Your fingers wrap around his wrists and push them into the pillow on either side of his head. “Mommy didn’t say you could touch her, did she?” you purr to him as you lean over him. He shakes his head obediently, if only it meant that you kept fucking yourself on top of him.
And you do. Most ardently.
You keep your bare chest pressed against his fuzzy one, nose-to-nose as you slide your hips over his. And even though he’s had you like this before (in this position and many others), it feels brand new every time. It’s like he’s never felt you before despite how familiar you feel.
It triggers his body into a sense of fight of flight, as though frightened he’ll never get to have you again. It leaves him fucking you like it’ll be the last time he’s inside you, every fucking time.
It never is, though — obviously. Most times he only has to wait a couple minutes or more before he gets to take you again.
But now, with his hands balled into fists beside his head and your’s braced on his chest, digging into the patch of hair there as you rock back and forth on his hard cock — the tip of it nestled deep inside of you and hitting every sweet spot that makes you keen — has left him an absolute wreck beneath you.
He’s chasing his pleasure like he’s never felt it before. Like he won’t feel it again.
“Your cock feels so good, Stevie,” you moan above him.
“‘M not gonna last long, baby,” he mutters between harsh and labored pants.
“’S okay… I want you to come,” you promise and press a too sweet kiss to his swollen, pink lips. You move your hips more intently over him. The sound of skin slapping against skin fills your bedroom. “Want you to fill me up.”
“Yeah?” he breathes out in something short of a whimper. His eyes are glassy and his brows are furrowed and it takes everything in him not to fuck up into you — because he wants to be good, he wants to be good for you.
“Yeah… Want you come in me… Fuck me until it takes,” you babble over top of him, knowing exactly what it’s doing to the whining boy beneath you. “Wanna give you a baby— fuck— I wanna make you a daddy, Stevie.”
A whine spills from his throat. His toes curl into the fabric of your comforter, eyes rolling back into his head, body tensing as he digs his fingers into the skin of his palms that still ache to touch you.
Your name spills from his mouth along with a string of curses and pretty little cries when he stuffs you full of his come.
You happily accept every load he shoots into you as work him through every aftershock of his orgasm. Yours doesn’t come so easy — you roll your hips over yourself and rub your clit until you’re twitching right along with him.
You come down from your highs together with a tender softness. You lay over him, one hand combing through his curls and the other stroking softly at his sweat-slicked bicep. You watch with heavy eyes as his orgasm rolls over him.
His chest rises and falls with every heavy breath, stuttering when another pang of pleasure hits him all of a sudden. “Fuck,” he whines harshly into the heavy air.
He’s happy you don’t deny him when his arms wrap around your waist, hands rubbing up and down the expanse of your slick back.
You press tiny kisses to his face as he comes down — his nose, his cheeks, his forehead his stubbly chin and jaw. You press one, two, three pecks to his lips before you slide off of him, then laugh when he whines.
You’re gone for hardly more than three minutes, but to Steve, it feels like an eternity’s gone by.
You return from the bathroom, wiped freshly clean, and blow out the nearly burnt-out candle on your dresser before you slither back into his side. One of his arms curls beneath your shoulders to pull you closer to him with his other rests on the back of yours that’s settled on his chest.
You share one pillow, noses inches away from one another’s, while you bask in the warm moment and the sex-coated air around you before you have to break it.
“You know I’m still on the pill, right?” you ask him.
He nods.
“And that we’re—”
“Way too young to have a kid right now?” he finishes for you, though the idea makes him sad. He nods.
“Yeah… And—”
“Too broke? I know that too.”
“Also my—”
“Your dad would kill me if I got you pregnant?”
It makes you laugh. You hadn’t realized you’d talked about having kids this many times — at least, not enough for him to memorize all the reasons why it’s not the best idea right now.
“Yeah, I know it’s not happening any time soon,” Steve says with a sigh. “I like to pretend, though. Plus, it’s not even about that to me, you know? I just… I just like being with you and… everything.”
Everything, you repeat to yourself. A word that means so much and nothing at all.
No one knows what everything means, they just know that it’s a lot, a whole lot. That’s what makes it so special. Steve wants it all with you — the overbearing dad, the sister with powers, the teenage kids who never let you have a single second to yourselves when they’re around.
It’s a lot sometimes, most times, but he’ll weather it all with you.
“You like being with me?” you echo just to see him nod.
He does. “I love being with you,” he corrects.
“Love calling me mommy, too, huh?”
He realizes then, the sincere moment was just a set-up for that stupid joke. He groans and flops his head back on the pillow, but makes no move to distance himself from you.
“Oh, my god,” he moans in annoyance. “Am I gonna have to deal with this the rest of my life?”
You nod. “Sorry, Harrington, but I’m never letting that shit go.”
Good, he thinks to himself, even though he pretends to hate it because it makes you laugh. He never wants you to stop.

Eddie should have known better. He should have been able to clock it from a mile away, but you had insisted that you were going to have a good time.
He knew you well enough to know that this party was going to end badly.
He didn't even know which friend of a friend's birthday it actually was. He'd dropped you off in front of a house he'd never taken you to before, and thank god he saw Robin standing on the porch, because he was almost ready to lock the van doors and take you right back home. You were clearly anxious about the outing, but you had continuously brushed it off, citing nothing more than excitement as the reason for your shaky hands. Eddie had practically begged you to let him tag along and play guard dog, but he hadn't been invited and, with the exception of Robin and maybe one other, you didn't know any of these people very well. You didn't want to step on any toes by bringing a plus one that you didn't actually have.
Eddie wasn't entirely sure why he was so nervous for you. You were an adult, you could handle yourself. And besides, he had no obligation to keep you safe like that; you two had been friends for a long time, but bodyguard was typically a boyfriend role.
Right?
It was well into the night, nearing three o'clock in the morning, when Eddie's phone finally rang. He had told you to call him so he could pick you up. He trusted you to know better than to try and drive yourself after a few drinks, but he definitely didn't trust the people you were with to get you home either. He scrambled out from under his acoustic guitar to answer the phone.
"Hey! I expected you to call ,like, two hours ago, are you-"
"Eddie, it's me," he heard Robin say from the other end. That was odd. His stomach instantly became heavy with anxiety; was something wrong? Had something happened?
"Robin! Hi," he said, trying to control the slight shake in his voice. "Wasn't expecting your voice. What's up?"
"You need to come get your girlfriend," Robin stated. Eddie instantly felt heat creep up his neck and was very grateful that Robin wasn't able to hear the blush that had settled onto his cheeks.
"Robin. She's not my girlfriend. You know that."
"Yeah, whatever. Just come get her."
"Did something happen?" Eddie's embarrassment was quickly stubbed out by nervousness.
"Not really," Robin responded, though she didn't sound all that confident in her answer.
"What?" Eddie asked with frustration. He loved Robin, he really did, but she never quite had a way with words. "What does 'not really' mean?"
"She just got, like, way drunker than she wanted to, I think," Robin clarified. "And now she's hiding, and I think she's crying, and I don't know what to do! I know you dropped her off, and-"
"Fuck, alright, I'm on my way," Eddie cut her off. He hooked the phone back to the wall and dashed out to the van.
This kind of thing had happened before. It wasn't like you didn't know your boundaries when it came to this kind of stuff, it was more like you would often choose to ignore them. You'd always been able to hold your liquor (it was kind of impressive sometimes, actually) but your impulsive nature left you prone to having just a few drinks too many. Pair that with how weird you'd been all day leading up to the party, and Eddie cursed himself for leaving you all alone.
By the time Eddie pulled up to the house most of the party goers had left, and only a handful of stragglers remained. He walked in and found Robin quickly.
"She's in the bathroom upstairs," she said to him as he walked up to her. "She didn't do anything too embarrassing, thankfully, but she looked really upset when she ran off."
Eddie nodded to her and started up the staircase, going two steps at a time. Even with all the people who had come and gone all night, the house felt incredibly empty to him. The same cream colored walls and carpet felt ever present in all of these new-construction-suburban-paradise type houses and Eddie didn't like them one bit. Something about the faux sincerity of it all left a bitter taste in his mouth, and he wondered how anyone could find all of this coldness appealing. Maybe he was biased, seeing as he was only welcome in these houses when he was upcharging freshmen at their first high school house parties, but he could almost feel the structure itself silently judging him.
God, he really needed to get you out of here as quickly as possible.
It took a couple of guesses, but he did eventually find the bathroom door. He knocked, though the force of his knuckles against the wood pushed the unlatched door open just enough for him to be able to see you on the floor, with your back leaned against the sink and your knees pulled up close to you chest.
You definitely looked worse for the wear, that was for sure. Robin was right, you had been crying, and it left angry black streaks running down your face from your eye makeup. Eddie walked in carefully and gently shut the door behind before sitting down on the floor next to you. You didn't look up at him, and instead chose to keep your eyes firmly trained on the little springy door stopper attached to the wall.
"I didn't call you," you said with a pout.
"I know," Eddie said. "Robin did. asked me to come get you."
"I didn't call you on purpose," you reiterated. Your voice was gruff and strained. "I don't wanna see you."
That struck Eddie right in his chest, though he knew that it was most likely just the tequila talking. You were very drunk, and come morning, you two would be back to being best friends again.
"Why don't you wanna see me?" Eddie asked with the slightest smirk. Now that he knew you weren't hurt, he was able to find just the tiniest bit of amusement in the situation.
"Because you're mean to me," you grumbled. You burrowed yourself into a somehow even smaller ball and did your best to turn away from him, though you had little success.
"How am I mean to you?" Eddie asked. He definitely wasn't mean to you; he would do literally anything in his power to make you happy.
"Because you're too pretty and you're too nice to me," you said. Eddie was instantly hung up on the fact that you called him pretty. You were drunk, not thinking straight, so you probably didn't actually think he was pretty, Eddie reasoned to himself. He pushed the thought right out of his head and moved on.
"I'm nice to you," he questioned. "And that makes me mean?"
"You're too nice." You turned to look at him through droopy, half shut eyes. They were rimmed with red. "You're not 'friend' nice, you're 'more than a friend' nice, but I know you don't mean it, and it's mean."
There was a sharp bite in your voice and Eddie didn't know how to respond. Did 'more than a friend' nice mean that he was nicer than a friendly acquaintance, or did it mean that he was nice in the way two people who are more than friends would be with one another?
"Do you want me to be 'more than a friend' nice?" Eddie asked without thinking.
"Not if you don't mean it," you responded.
"But what if I did mean it?" All of Eddie's better judgment had been thrown out the window at this point. Maybe he was taking advantage of you inebriation, that you would give him the truth because of it, but in this moment all he could think about was the fact that he had been pining after you for months thinking it would never amount to anything. Now it might be amounting to something and he had, he just had, to know.
"You're making fun of me!" you said. You dropped your face into your arms.
"I'm not, really! I just," Eddie cut himself off with a sigh. You were drunk. Nothing he could say would really get through to you, and even if it were to, you weren't going to remember any of this in the morning. If he thought about it, maybe that was a good thing. "Look, let's just get you home, okay?"
You grumbled some in protest, but didn't try to wriggle out of Eddie's grasp as he led you down the stairs and out to the van. He got you settled in the passenger seat before getting into the driver's side and starting the car. He kept the music turned down low, knowing your head was most likely already pounding, and rolled down the front two windows.
The cool night air whipped through the cabin of the vehicle. You shut your eyes and turned your face towards it. It had been hot, so hot, in that house, and you seemed more than happy to be out in the cold autumn evening. Eddie lived much closer than you did, and he knew your parents would be less than thrilled about you staggering inside at three in the morning, so he elected to bring you back to his place. He could just sleep on the floor.
He helped you out of the car and inside. You struggled to toe off your shoes, though you eventually got them off and tossed them haphazardly against the door with a thud.
Once he got you standing on your own, he quickly realized just how drunk you actually were. You kept your eyes closed as you swayed into his bathroom and Eddie was worried that you'd fall and hit your head on the sink or something; The last thing he needed was to have to take you to the ER. He was already on thin ice with your parents as it was, and getting a call from the hospital in the middle of the night would absolutely cement their dislike for him. You hadn't thrown up or anything (at least, as far as he knew), so that was good, but Eddie knew you had definitely pushed yourself way too hard.
He wondered if you had been roped into some drinking game or something. Your competitive nature and poor impulse control made you much too good at them.
You'd been quiet since Eddie had lifted you up off the bathroom floor, but as you slumped down on top of his sheets, still in your jeans, you spoke up again.
"I'm sorry," you said, eyes closed.
"It's okay," Eddie reassured you. "I'm more than happy to come and save you whenever you need me to."
"And I mean what I said." You were muffled against his pillows, but Eddie still heard you.
"What, about me being mean to you?"
"No." You turned to face him and your big, watery eyes were enough to crush his heart. You sat back up and started to sway a bit. Eddie put a hand on you arm to keep you steady, and realized just how close the two of you were to each other. Your shoulders were turned inwards as you leaned in even closer, though he was sure it couldn't have been on purpose. "About you being pretty. You're really very pretty."
If you hadn't been completely plastered, Eddie would have kissed you right then and there.

Pairings: Steve Harrington x fem!reader
cw: Friends to lovers, angst, hurt, romance, eventual smut (probably), no use of y/n, Steve being a bit of an ass
Author's note: My first proper fic in a while so please be gentle on me. <3 There will be 2 Parts to this fic if the demand is there.
"Are we there yet?" Robin whined from the back of Steve's car, repeating the same question she'd asked ten minutes earlier. Frustration having set in about an hour ago when Eddie had fallen asleep and decided to use her shoulder as a pillow. You couldn't exactly blame her for being pissed off, the journey had felt long and drawn out and the current heat wave definitely wasn’t helping the current situation, with irritated sighs and huffs being echoed over Eddie’s loud snoring.
"Relax, Robs, we're almost there." Steve promised his friend through the rear view mirror. "Right?" He asked, squeezing your thigh for reassurance in the passenger seat beside him, begging you to say yes either way so Robin would quit bugging him. You flinched at the sudden feeling of Steve’s warm hand on your skin, shifting just enough so that his hand fell from your leg. Your uncomfortable body language hadn't gone unnoticed by him, looking at you in utter confusion before turning his focus back to the open road again.
"Oh yeah, about a half hour and we should be at the motel." You muffled, scanning the map as your friend breathed a sigh of relief behind you. You had navigated the majority of the journey, swapping with Robin forty minutes in when it became clear she couldn't understand the directions, meaning you were left with no choice but to sit up front with Steve because Eddie had already smoked a joint by himself and couldn't be trusted to guide you to your required destination safely or on time.
He had won four Metallica tickets on some radio show contest a few days prior, pleading with his friend to drive you all to Ohio in his BMW so he could see his favourite band play live for the first time. It wasn't really Steve's kind of music but who was he to turn down a night away from Hawkins?
You had been friends with Steve and the others ever since he called to Dustin's a couple of years ago while you were babysitting at the Henderson household, blissfully unaware of the danger that surrounded Hawkins at the time. Their friendship had taken you a little bit by surprise at first but you had to admit, you found their bond totally adorable. Especially, when Steve would give Dustin advice about girls and how to do his hair and how they'd protect each other and now you too, every time the world went to shit. You really didn't expect to get mixed up in a world involving supernatural creatures when you said yes to a babysitting job, that was definitely not on the advertisement but now you'd do anything for that kid and the rest of the group to keep them safe.
Steve had been drawn to you from the very beginning, not at all prepared for a pretty girl to answer the door to him while he waited for the younger boy. He immediately recognised you from high school, knowing it definitely wasn't the first time you had caught his attention.
"Oh hey, sorry, I didn't know Henderson had a sister." He muttered innocently, sliding his hands in to his pockets as you leaned against the doorframe wearing a plaid skirt and woolen cardigan.
"Pfft he wishes...I'm just his favourite babysitter or at least I'm the only one crazy enough to look after him.” You joked as Steve let out a small chuckle. “So, what are you doing here anyway ‘King Steve’? Mrs Henderson didn’t mention Dustin having a play date tonight.” You teased, folding your arms as Steve pressed his tongue to his cheek, a little taken aback by your wit. "Well, if Mrs Henderson had told me Dustin had such a pretty babysitter, I might have come play more often." He flirted, enjoying the back and forth between you, completely forgetting the reason he had called to Dustin's in the first place.
“Dude, that's my babysitter and she's awesome so don't even think about trying any shit with her!" Dustin had warned his older friend, seeing the lust in Steve's eyes as you walked away to let them talk.
Of course you liked Steve, he was gorgeous and sweet and he wasn't the stuck up asshole you'd remembered from high school. But, you knew that he was still getting over Nancy and you wouldn't be anyones rebound girl. So, you started occupying your time with Billy Hargrove to get over your little crush on Steve and it wasn't long until he became your boyfriend. You actually liked Billy, saw parts of him that no one else had but your friendship with Steve complicated things between you from the beginning. Cause, every time Billy did something to hurt you or piss you off, it was Steve you turned to for comfort, leading to fist fights between the two boys and you caught in the middle.
Billy hated that you were so close with his biggest rival, he hated that the other boy knew so much about you and your relationship and he hated knowing that your feelings for Steve went way past platonic, even if you hadn't realised it yet. So, when he eventually made you choose between your friendship with Steve and your relationship with him, Billy wasn't all that surprised when you chose Steve. Not that you ever told your friend he was the reason for the break up.
Over the next few years, you and Steve had gotten even closer, spending more time in his house than your own because he hated being there by himself and you didn't want to go home either. Your Mother had long passed away and your Father was a drunk. It was one of the many things you had in common, both of you having shitty parents and it was nice to have someone who understood how you were feeling. But lately, you had taken a step back from him, deciding to stay at Robin's house instead until you had enough money for a place of your own, because Billy Hargrove had been right all along, you were in love with your best friend and you were fucking terrified of him finding out.
It wasn’t supposed to happen, you certainly didn't want it to happen, it was so cliche that it made you physically nauseous, but thinking you had lost Steve when he disappeared under the water that night on the lake was all it took for you to realise just how much he really meant to you. Now you didn't know to act around your friend, not wanting to give him the slightest inkling of your current feelings towards him. You hated the way your stomach would flip when he'd smile at you, cheeks heating when he’d compliment you and the way you'd almost forget to breathe when he leaned in to kiss your cheek after picking you up from work, it was truly tragic. But to make matters worse, Robin had let slip that Steve was back on the dating scene again and you were just a tiny bit jealous and a little pissed off that he had failed to mention that detail to you personally when you spent so much time with him.
The sun was bright, high in the sky, heat taking over the BMW before you rolled the window down, welcoming the instant breeze as you pulled your sunglasses from the top of your head back over your eyes. Steve was immediately hypnotised by the scent of your shampoo and perfume as your hair blew in the wind. He tried to stay focused on the road in front of him but you were making it incredibly difficult in your low cut crop top and tiny denim shorts, hanging the top half of your body out the window for air. He was sure he almost drooled at the small sight of your laced bra that threatened to unveil itself if you shuffled in your seat much more.
Steve silently wondered what had been going on with you lately, you had become so distant and he was worried that he'd done something to upset you, said something stupid, but he couldn't think of anything. You didn't stay with him anymore, you flinched when he'd touch you and now, you barely even looked at him. Whatever was going on with you, he needed to find out soon, because it was driving him crazy.
"You ok over there, Dingus?" Robin teased, elbow leaning on the back of the drivers seat, catching Steve gazing at you. She was sure that you and Steve belonged together but you refused to let her know the full extent of your feelings because as much as you loved Robin, you didn't trust her not accidentally spill the beans to Steve.
“Uh yeah, m’fine.” He swallowed, relieved you hadn’t caught him staring as you rolled the window up again. He knew he shouldn't have been looking at you like that, you were his best friend for christ sake and he was sort of dating someone now, but he just couldn't help himself, not when it came to you. He never could.
“Eyes on the road, Romeo.” Robin whispered, pinching his cheek as he swotted her hand away, focusing back on the road again.
Thirty minutes later and you had arrived at the motel you’d be spending the night in, climbing in to the backseat, shaking Eddie to wake him from his slumber as Robin and Steve went to check in.
“Wake up sleeping beauty, we’re here.” You announced as he stretched out, yawning loudly.
“Oh man, why’d you wake me up, I was having such a good dream. You and Nance were giving me a—"
“I’m begging you not to finish that sentence, Munson.” You pleaded, placing a hand over his mouth.
“Hey, I’m a guy. I can’t help that I dream about my hot friends.” He defended as you got back out of the car while he followed suit.
“That doesn’t mean you have to tell me about it though.” You shuddered as he let out a laugh. “So, you finally gonna bunk up with Harrington tonight, put the rest of us out of our misery?” He grinned, pulling a little worn box out of his pocket, lighting up a cigarette.
“Nope. I’m sharing with Robin, you’re bunking with Steve.” You replied, rummaging in the trunk for your duffel bag, not really wanting to talk about Steve.
"We could swap if you wa-"
"I’m good with Robin." You interrupted, as he picked up on the irritated tone in your voice. "What's going on with you two lately?" Eddie questioned.
"Nothing." You shrugged, swinging your bag over your shoulder, Eddie looking at you, completely unconvinced by the answer you had given him. "Total bullshit."
"There's nothing going on, Eddie." You repeated.
"Did you guys finally do it or something? Is that why you aren't staying at his house anymore?" He asked as you let out a sarcastic laugh.
"No, we didn't 'do it'..….how did you even know I haven't been staying at Steve's?” You quizzed, Eddie offering you a drag of his cigarette, leaning against the Beamer. “He told me. Asked me if I knew what was going on with you, told him if he didn't know, there was no way I would."
“Rob said he’s been going on a couple of dates recently, I figured me sleeping in the next bedroom might be a bit of a mood killer." You revealed, exhaling the cigarette smoke as Eddie grinned at you. “Ah, so the issue is he's not doing you?" He joked as you rolled your eyes.
"That's not the issue, Eddie, there is no issue!" You lied, handing Eddie back what was left of his cigarette as he chuckled at your frustration.
“If you say so princess."
"So are you ever going to tell that girl how you feel or are you happy drooling at her from her a distance for the rest of your life?" Robin questioned Steve at the check in desk while he tried to shush her.
"Jesus Robin, will you stop with that shit? We're just friends, alright?" Steve declared, leaning heavily on the counter.
"No dingus, we're just friends, you don't look at your friends the way you look at her, there's a difference." She stated as Steve looked out the window, back to where you and Eddie were still talking outside in the parking lot. Seeing you two laughing outside stirred up a hint of jealousy in him because it should have been him you were laughing with, not Eddie. Steve was supposed to be your best friend and it was killing him that you were treating him like a total stranger.
"I don't even know why you're dating other chicks, you've got the perfect girl right out there." Robin pointed, as Steve let out a frustrated breath.
"m'not dating ‘other chicks’ Robin, just one ch...girl, Tracy, remember?" He asked as Robin laughed. "Oh I remember, do you? Beause it didn't seem like you did when you were mentally undressing your best friend back in the car."
"I wasn't "mentally undressing" her!"
"You totally were though." She muttered under her breath.
"Robin, I swear to god, just drop it. I'm seeing Tracy now, please, just let it go." He begged as she finally decided to ease up on her friend, seeing the annoyance on his face. "Fine, but she was a real bitch in high school, y'know?"
"You thought everyone was a bitch in high school." Steve replied unamused at her response. "Not everyone." She argued, turning her head to where you were walking in with Eddie.
"Ok, here we go, we have one room reserved under a Miss Buckley and one reserved under a Mr. Munson is that correct?" The receptionist asked.
"Yes, Ma'am." Eddie replied with a cheesy grin, winking at the girl behind the desk.
"Great, your rooms are ready now. Here's your key Mr. Munson you're in room fourteen and Miss Buckley, you're in room sixteen, enjoy your stay." She smiled as you all gathered your things to head to your residence for the night.
"Fuck, there was something really hot about the way she kept calling me Mr. Munson." Eddie smirked as you walked towards the rooms.
"She was just being polite, you pervert." You muttered, shoving your friend playfully.
"Aww don't be jealous sweetheart, you're still my number one girl." He said throwing an arm around you.
"In your dreams, Munson." You fought back.
"You were." He teased, sticking his tongue out playfully. Steve walked ahead, finally finding the room he'd be sharing with Eddie, swiping the room key, pushing the old creaky door in with his shoulder.
"Oh you gotta be fucking kidding me!" Steve cursed, opening the door as you all entered to see what he was referring to.
“What’s the prob….oh.” Eddie sighed, finally noticing the lack of a second double bed.
"Aww, this is so romantic. All you need is some candles and rose petals and you’re all set.” Robin teased, earning a glare from both guys.
"S'not funny Robin, we’re not sharing a bed, go check your room and see what you’ve got.” He requested as Robin wandered off to see if your room had the same issue.
"Shit, I'm sure I asked for two beds dude." Eddie stated rubbing his neck as the other let out an irritated breath. "You had one job Munson..."
"We've got one double bed too." Robin revealed, swinging from the doorframe unbothered. Sharing a bed wasn’t an issue for either of you, you'd done it most weekends at Steve's anyway when Robin was too drunk to go home or when you stayed at hers.
"Alright I'll go back to the front desk and see if that hot little receptionist can help us out." Eddie grinned, heading for the door but you placed a hand on his chest to hold him back.
"Easy there lover boy, the sign said "No Vacancies", it's totally sold out." You explained, hearing Steve curse behind you.
"Looks like you guys are roomies then." Robin laughed as they both shook their heads in defiance.
"No, absolutely not." Steve refused.
"Agreed." The other boy reiterated.
"Are you guys really that immature? It's just one night." You explained, taking a seat on the end of the bed.
"Have you seen the size of Harrington's dick? I don't want that thing poking at me all night!" Eddie shrieked as Steve smirked smugly. Your eyes widened at the mention of your friends package, sending them straight to his dick. Your movement hadn’t gone unnoticed by Steve who was looking at you confidently, almost enjoying the fact he had caught you staring at him.
"So what do you suggest then?" Robin quizzed, getting bored of standing around, wanting to freshen up before the concert.
"Easy, I go with one of you lovely ladies and one of you stays here with ol' big dick." He proposed, nudging his head towards Steve who seemed more than happy with that arrangement.
"No way." You refused knowing you’d end up getting stuck with Steve.
"Why not?" Steve quizzed, folding his strong arms, almost looking insulted by how quick you shot down the suggested arrangement.
Because you're sleeping with someone that's not me...
"Why should Robin and I have to switch because you two aren't man enough to share a bed for a couple of hours?" You spat, directing the question towards your best friend.
"Because we're guys! It's different for girls..." Eddie interrupted before Steve had the chance to speak.
"Afraid you'll like it?" Robin teased.
"If it's that much of a problem, why don't one of you just sleep in the car." You suggest, earning a glare from Steve. "I fucking drove us here, m'not sleepin' in the damn car!" Steve answered back as you noticed him glaring at you, quickly picking up on his pissed off tone.
"Sleep on the floor then." You muttered.
"This is ridiculous, why are we still arguing?” Steve groaned, not understanding why you were so against sharing a bed with him. You had done it before so why was now such a big deal?
“You’re the one being ridiculous! It’s just somewhere to sleep for a few hours.” You replied getting more agitated each time Steve spoke.
“Guys please…” Robin begged, sensing the tension between you both starting to boil over.
“Oh I’m the one being ridiculous? That's rich...” Steve fired back.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean, Harrington?” You questioned, raising a brow at him, completely forgetting that Robin and Eddie were watching this encounter unfold between you.
“You know exactly what it means, sweetheart.” He challenged and suddenly, you knew he wasn't talking about the sleeping arrangements anymore.
"Ok children, let's just cut the shit shall we? Robin, you and I will take the other room and leave these lovebirds alone to fuck out this sexual tension before we all lose the will to live.” Eddie grinned, grabbing his bags, leading Robin out of the room as she whispered a "sorry" to you.
“Shut the fuck up, Munson.” Steve replied, glaring at the other boy as you took a mental note to murder the metal head at a later time.
"Hey, it's not like I'm saying anything you guys don’t already know. Why don’t you just save us all some time and get it over with huh? We'll meet you in the lobby in an hour.” Eddie replied, closing the door behind him, leaving you all alone with your best friend for the first time in a long time.
“Idiot.” Steve muttered, throwing his car keys on the nightstand, throwing himself on to the bed. "This is just fucking great..." You muttered under your breath, the awkward tension between you already suffocating the room along with the smell of stale cigarette smoke that seemed to be attached to all of the soft furnishings. You could feel Steve's eyes on you while you grabbed your bag and headed for the bathroom, knowing you needed to get away from him and give each other some much needed space after the heated exchange.
"Need to use the bathroom before I get ready?" You questioned, a hand resting on your hip as Steve barely acknowledged you, grabbing the remote to turn on the tv.
"Nope."
"Cool." You whispered, closing the door behind you, quickly turning on the shower so you could finally let out the tears you'd been trying desperately to hold back for so long.
You didn't know how to make things right with Steve. You thought you were protecting your friendship with him by keeping him at a distance until your feelings disappeared, but it seemed all you were really doing was making things much worse between you.

Dying? Let's Ignore It
Prompt by @zerokrox-blog with a little sprinkle from @doubleb11. Thanks for the ideas, I appreciate it! I hope you guys like it and please share your thoughts in the comments.
~*~*~*~
Steve wakes up one day feeling awful. His head aches like it does when a migraine is coming on and his throat burns like he swallowed charcoal. Nevertheless, he had to get to work. He had three days of doubles scheduled due to Robin visiting her sick grandmother out of town and Keith being on vacation down in Florida. No one could work but him so he couldn’t call off. Plus, he’d been looking forward to the overtime pay.
He was on the knife’s edge of being kicked out by his parents and he needed to have enough cash to secure an apartment as soon as possible. They were scheduled to be home in a few weeks and Steve wanted to be gone by the time they were. Did he tell any of the Party this? Of course not, he was an adult who could take care of himself. No one had looked after him before and they weren’t going to start now.
So, he dragged himself out of bed and made sure to grab a pair of his infamous sunglasses on his way out the door. Steve knew they made him look douchey, the kids had said so enough times for him to get the point, but every light was too bright for his pounding headache to handle.
Even with the sunglasses and cough medicine, he didn’t feel any better throughout the day as he dealt with nagging customers and annoying kids. Steve was over the customer service and truly wanted to quit around the halfway mark of his shift. Mike and Lucas came in at one point to heckle Steve into renting them a rated-R movie and after that exchange, he was ever closer to quitting his job. Only a couple of days left though, he could make it.
When he got home, he chugged two bottles of water in an effort to “drown the sickness” and settled into bed for what he expected was going to be a restless night. He tossed and turned all night blowing his nose, hacking up his lungs, and feeling crummy in general. Around 2 AM, he felt like he was going to die but he still had two doubles to go and he was going to get that overtime check if it was the last thing he did.
He must’ve only gotten a few hours of sleep because the next day of work felt like torture and he would know. Even the Russians were more merciful than whatever illness he had. His head was still pounding, his muscles ached, and it hurt to expand his chest to breathe. He only made it through the work day because customers weren’t coming in and he was able to take a nap. Unfortunately for him, his nap became a sleepover at Family Video because he woke up at 4:30 AM and decided to stay there for his shift instead of potentially crashing on the way home. He would just be early to his next shift.
He didn’t take a shower or anything the next morning, just flipped the open sign and turned on the too bright lights. Several customers that day asked him if he was okay and if he needed a ride to the hospital. Steve declined every offer and pasted on a shaky smile. He didn’t have time to go to the hospital just to be admitted and lose the overtime money. He briefly considered calling Eddie for a ride to the hospital after close but it was kind of late and he was pretty sure he was Eddie’s least favorite member of the group. And like hell was he going to call Nancy for a ride. He would rather die than beg his ex-girlfriend to drive him to the hospital.
With a deep stuttering breath, he climbed into the car and took off for the hospital. On his way there, his hands trembled where he gripped the steering wheel of the Beemer and sweat formed droplets on his forehead. For the last several days, he’s tried to ignore his symptoms beyond chugging cough syrup by the bottle in order to complete his shifts. His body was ensuring that he couldn’t ignore it anymore with the way his chest flamed and his head threatened to explode.
The nurses quickly swarmed him the moment he stepped through the ER doors, a true testament to how shitty he was sure he looked. They didn’t even ask him any questions, just pushed him onto a gurney and pressed an oxygen mask to his face. The feeling of safety allowed him to close his eyes and rest even despite everyone yelling at him to wake up. They could wait just a minute while he rested his eyes…
When he opened his eyes, he was lying in a hospital bed. He was alone as always, without family to come visit him and not important enough to his friends for them to care. Steve let out a sigh as he laid back against the pillows. He doesn’t know why he expected any different because the situation was always the same.
Steve was well within his own self-loathing when the door to his hospital room burst open to reveal a frantic Eddie and a panting Wayne. Their faces were an eerie mixture of too pale and flushed red from exertion. Immediately upon seeing Steve awake, both men sagged in relief.
“What the fuck, Steve? Dude, the nurses made it seem like you were dying. They said that you’d been having symptoms for the past few days and ignored them which made them get a lot worse. You have pneumonia, man. There’s fluid in both of your lungs and if you waited any longer, your lung would’ve collapsed. Why didn’t you tell anyone?” Eddie asked him, his hands were still shaking slightly even as he pulled them through the knots in his unruly hair.
Steve couldn’t even wrap his head around them being here, much less come up with an answer to his question. “Why are you here?”
Eddie looked vaguely offended at his question and opened his mouth but was interrupted by Wayne. “You put me down as yer emergency contact, kid. We were real worried when we got the call.”
“Yeah, we were worried but I’m also furious. Where have you been the past few days? You could’ve called me and I would’ve come over to take care of you or give you a ride to the doctor. What the fuck were you thinking, Steven?” Eddie asked him belligerently while waving his hands around as if to spread his anger.
“I’m always alone when I’m sick and it's not like anyone would have cared,” Steve murmured,  too tired to give the argument his all.
“You fucking dumbass,” Eddie called him before being cuffed in the back of the head with a slap from Wayne. “Ow shit, I’m sorry. Of course we care, you fucker! You know how scared I was when we got the call from the hospital? We must’ve broken every speed limit around so we could be here with you a little sooner.”
Wayne sighed but supported his nephew’s explanation, albeit more gently. “Harrington, people care about you and hiding out when you’re sick ain’t helping no one.”
“Okay to be fair, I wasn’t hiding. I’ve been working 14 hour shifts for the past three days trying to make some money. I was just ignoring the symptoms until I could come here without missing work, which I did.” Steve defended.
They both gave him equally blank looks.
“That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard!” Dustin screamed from his position where he was eavesdropping in the doorway.
“Dustin-”
“No, Steve! We love you and if we had known you were sick, maybe it wouldn’t have gotten so bad! You should’ve told us that you were sick and you shouldn’t have ignored the symptoms just to go to work!” He yelled heatedly.
Steve went to talk but before he could say anything, Eddie sent him a close-lipped smile and pulled Dustin out of the room. Steve was left alone with Uncle Wayne. “I’m sorry, Wayne. I didn’t-”
The older man smacked him in the arm with his hat and settled into the uncomfortable seat beside his bed. “Stop apologizing, boy. This is on us. You may be bad at realizing how loved ya are but it’s on us to make it clear to ya. Next time we’ll have to keep a closer eye on ya to make sure you’re okay. We uh, we all love ya, kid.”
To this day, Steve will say the tears that formed in his eyes were due to the oxygen cannula tickling his nose. But that night when he fell asleep, he felt a little less sick and a lot more loved.

Hello! If it’s alright, could I request something with the reader going Halloween costume shopping with Eddie (and maybe the rest of the gang)? There’s so many Spirit Halloween and Halloween Express stores around where I live and I just have a feeling that Eddie would have the time of his life in them and need to be reigned in haha
thank you google for telling me that spirit halloween was indeed founded in the 1980s thus making this little fic possible. here's eddie in a costume shop but its also friends to lovers, hope you like !! <3 | 1.3k, fem!reader, fluff, friends to lovers
The store takes up the biggest part of the strip mall about 40 minutes away from Hawkins. As soon as Eddie parks the van in the near-empty lot, the kids who aren't really kids anymore spring out and jog to the doors. The "Spirit Halloween" banner is faded and haphazardly strung up over the walkway and you raise your eyebrows in a silent question at Eddie across the gear shift.
"Don't look at me like that!" he says, smirking. "Buckley said they'd find good shit here for cheap."
"And this was worth almost an hour of driving?" Your complaint has no bite as you hop out of the van and walk for the store, Eddie's lazy, loping gate just behind you.
"We can't have them show up to their first high school party without good costumes," he scolds you, hand ghosting over your back at the threshold. The kids are going to a real party this year, though they don't know that you know. You got it out of Lucas last week when he begged Eddie to drive them here. You both told Steve, who said he's gonna drive by every hour, even as the rest of the 'big kids' have fun at another party, you and Eddie included.
Eddie, your friend, maybe even your best friend. This week you wanted to see if you could be more, if the fluttering in your stomach was worth risking what you already have. You've been trying to muster the courage to ask him to go in a couples costume this year but you've chickened out and here you are, a week before Halloween, and you're sure you've missed your chance. Instead, you'll help him pick out something he'll look ridiculously hot in and he'll make out with some college girl at the party.
But one thing at a time. You can see the kids weaving between the aisles as you look around, taking it all in. You thought that the store would be fairly picked over since it's close to Halloween but it seems just as full as if it was October 1st. Skeletons hang from the drab ceiling and the lighting is a little too low and it smells like dust, but you get a cart and slowly make your way into the maze.
"I'm gonna go dig," Eddie says, brushing his hand over your shoulder and squeezing before he darts off into the adult costume aisles. You meander through bins of decorations and wigs, capes and plastic masks. A song you kind of recognize plays lowly over the speakers and you hum along, tossing a few bags of candy into the cart and a stuffed pumpkin that Robin will like.
And you think about Eddie. How funny he is, how he's intense in one moment but vulnerable the next. How much he loves the kids and the way they're running Hellfire now and his friends and how he just wants people to like him. How nice he is to you, how easily he took to your jokes and your moods, how he answers your late night phone calls when you can't sleep and picks you up whenever you ask him to.
The crush you're nursing is newish -- you liked him when you first saw him, sure, and your stomach swooped when he spoke to you, but it's only this fall that you find yourself looking at his lips and wondering how soft they are. Wondering what it would be like to have his arm slung around your shoulders in more than a friendly way, to be able to call him your boyfriend. If all the afternoons you spend at his trailer, all the movies you see, all the drives he takes you on could be dates instead.
The boy in question skids out of the aisle right in front of you and you have to jerk the cart back to keep from plowing into him.
"Eddie," you frown. "I could have hit you!"
He's grinning, hands high in the air to show you what he's found. "It would be worth it for these sick costumes I found for us." You told him to find you something easy and something about his excitement tells you this is anything but. The bags say "Frankenstein" and..."Bride of Frankenstein." There are wigs visible through the plastic, a black one shot through with white in the bag that's for you. "I'm not going to wear a wig, obviously, but maybe we can temporarily dye a white streak so we match." He keeps talking about painting his face green when you interrupt him.
"But Eddie," you say, genuinely confused, "this is a couples costume." He deflates only a little at your surprise, but takes a deep breath and lowers his arms, pulling his face into one of his more neutral expressions.
"Yeah, and?" he says, shifting from foot to food.
You fight the urge to put your face in your hands because you feel like you're losing control of the situation. "Did I miss something? Are we a couple?" Your voice cracks on the last word and maybe that's what causes Eddie to soften.
"I guess not," he says. "But that's an easy fix." His face is pink as he takes a step forward, his stomach pressing into the edge of the cart as he looks at you. "Do you want to be a couple?" he asks. You suck in a breath at how earnest he sounds. "Do you want to go out with me?"
"Really?" you say softly. This is moving far too quickly, your head spinning at the realization that Eddie has stolen your plan.
"Don't sound so surprised!" he scoffs. "Do you want me to...hold your hand and ask? Will you believe me then? I can do that, hold on--" He tosses the costume bags into your cart and wiggles around it to stand next to you, gently grabbing your hands in his as he faces you. All of a sudden he seems a little nervous close up, eyes wide as he swallows so hard you see his adam's apple bob.
"Will you go out with me?" he asks, voice low. "And be the...Mrs. Frankenstein to my Frankenstein?" His grin is crooked, his dimple deep and nose scrunched at his bad joke.
"Okay," you say. You try really hard not to look at his lips. You're going to kiss him, but not in the middle of Spirit Halloween. "Yeah, I'd love to, Eddie." His smile is blinding as he whoops and pulls you in for a hug. Being in his arms is familiar and you hook your chin over his shoulder. "Frankenstein is the doctor, not the monster, you know," you tell him. His curls tickle your nose.
Eddie pulls back so you can see his eye roll. "I know that," he says, tugging gently on a piece of your hair. He drums his fingers on the cart handle. "Do you wanna go on a date after this?"
This boy keeps surprising you. "Tonight? Eddie, I'm not really dressed for a first date." You're in regular clothes, and for him you'd like to at least put in some effort, maybe put on that skirt you're pretty sure makes him a little flustered.
But he has other ideas. "Nah," he says, eyes trailing up and down your figure. "You look great as always." The blush on he cheeks deepens even though he's the one complimenting you. It's obvious now that he's liked you this whole time, too.
"Alright," you tell him. "Let's go on a date."
"And we're wearing these costumes for Halloween, right?" He points at the bags in the cart. You nod and he grins again. "Henderson!" Eddie calls into the store. Dustin pops out of an aisle holding a plastic Batman mask. "Come push this cart and round everyone up." Dustin groans but obeys.
Eddie tugs you back so the younger boy can take over and start yelling for his friends. Then he grabs your hand, lacing your fingers together and squeezing it. You're a couple now, you think. Eddie looks at you and winks, mouth open to say something when he's cut off by a loud curse.
"Why are you holding hands?" Mike cries.

find the word tag game!
tagged again by @mentallyundone 🩵🩵
My words: Heat, Shut, Insane, Tight, Over
Your words: breath, love, touched, broken, baby
Rules: go through your writing and find a snippet [or more if you’d like :)] with the words in them. Then you tag people and give them five words :)
Heat from “(one day I’m) gonna cut it clear”
Eddie had cried all afternoon, begging to no one, because he was sorry and he didn’t want his hair short anymore. Because he had cut it to stop people from calling it pretty but he knew they still would. Because he didn’t want to be trapped in the suffocating Georgia summer heat that was seeping in through the windows anymore.
shut from “Radio Star”
Steve was going to die. He was alone, and it was crowded and cold, and he was actually going to fucking die. His head was spinning, and his hands were shaking, and he had been walking around for hours in this stupid fucking corn maze, and he just wanted to sit down—but he couldn’t find Robin. And that was a problem, because Robin kind of shut down when he wasn’t around, and that really wasn’t a good idea when they were in a public space. (He also kind of shut down when she wasn’t around, which he was doing now, but that's besides the point.)
Eddie closed the door and only for a moment did Steve feel shut in—in a way that he didn’t really like—before Eddie crossed to the other side of the car and slid into the driver's seat, tapping his hands on the wheel and sighing softly, looking over at Steve. “Are you okay?”
Insane from “I owe you a black eye and two kisses”
Wayne wouldn’t have done that, but Steve wasn’t completely insane for thinking it. He and Eddie argued a lot—and it seemed to happen in public more than anything—so most assumed that Eddie would be out of the trailer within a few weeks, and he’d have to find someone else to bother. But then months would pass, and he’d still be hanging around. Wayne loved him, even if he didn’t say anything. He didn’t need to, really. He was the closest to family that Eddie had, now.
Tight from “Radio Star”
"Hm?" She choked out, her throat already feeling tight and itchy as her skin crawled and her bones ached. She got like this when she was sad. Steve said it was okay that she felt things with all of her, but she fucking hated it.
Fuck, why did she put on jeans? Of all pants? Steve's t-shirt was off and kicked to the edge of the bed, and her hands were fumbling with the button. These jeans were... probably a bit tight on her, but she hadn't thrown them out yet because then Steve would have taken her to get new ones, and she really hated going to the store. No—she and Vickie were about to have sex (if she was reading this whole thing correctly) why was she thinking about that right now? She just needed to focus on getting her fucking pants off, and—
Steve spent an embarrassing amount of time waiting by the phone these days-curled up on the floor next to the wall with his head pressed to his knees and his jacket pulled tight around him. Eddie hadn't called, and he was pretty sure he wasn't going to—but god he wanted him to. He really did. It felt like invisible hands were tugging at his skin, bloody fingers curled against his spine, pulling him and telling him to just give up and lay down and die. He hadn't really felt like himself in weeks, and he needed a distraction.
over from “I’d hold the gun if you asked me to” (kind of a long but but oh well)
Steve looked over at the person walking back to their car. They paused as they passed Steve and Eddie, crumpled on the ground together—one a sobbing mess, the other looking perplexed and worried. “Is…he alright? Do I need to go back in and phone the hospital?” Steve was about to say ‘yes’, because this was all super sudden and he was really starting to freak out, but then Eddie pinched Steve’s. Steve looked down, the only thing he could see of Eddie right now being his shaking shoulder, and his eyebrows pressed together. “Play along,” Eddie hissed into his ear before he sobbed again, his hands digging further into Steve’s back in a way that actually kind of hurt. But, of fuck, he realized what Eddie was doing now. “Yeah, he’ll be alright,” Steve said, forcing his face to look resigned as he sighed and rubbed his hand over Eddie’s back again, his touch lighter than before, even though he knew Eddie had been feigning pain before. A part of him still thought that Eddie was hurt–still wanted to protect him, to take care of him. He couldn’t help it, really, it was just who he was. “He just needs to go home and take his meds, get some rest, you know how it is. Should be fine by tomorrow.”
PEOPLE TO TAG UMMM (no pressure y’all 🩵): @ataliagold @rogueddie @steventhusiast @hbyrde36 @steddiewithachance @nburkhardt @kennahjune @slowandsteddie

Two months laters
“Steve!” Max shouted as she wheeled down the driveway, “You actually came.” She smiled at the older man, happy that he had taken the letter she sent him seriously.
“Well, you six have grown.” Steve fakes a smile as he pushes his sunglasses up to hide the dark circles - the evidence that he hasn’t been sleeping much - from the younger teens.
“It’s only been like two months.” Mike scoffed and crossed his arms over his chest.
“We’ve missed you.” El smiled at him.
“We have so much to tell you!” Dustin exclaimed and the six teens started talking over one another Steve not understanding a word any of them were saying.
“Hey! Slow down jellybeans! Let the man have a minute to think… if he can even do that.” Eddie teased Steve, but frowned when Steve just shrugged and didn’t even fight back. “Why don’t you kids go inside, Nancy and Robin probably need help with something.” The kids - minus Max and Will all ran inside, Will offering to help Max up the makeshift ramp Eddie had made for Nancy and Jonathan’s house.
“How was the drive?” Eddie asked Steve as he shoved his hands into his pocket and leaned his left shoulder on his van.
“Fine.” Steve muttered as he grabbed a few wrapped boxes out of his trunk.
“Cut the bullshit, Harrington.” Eddie glared at him as he walked over to help with the boxes. “Your sunglasses might be covering the dark circles, but they aren’t covering the frown on your face or the tear stains on your cheeks so be honest Steve.”
“What, Munson? You want to hear about how I had to pull off to the side of the road after I started driving past the school and Sweet Dreams came on… her favorite song. Last time I actually listened to the song in full was with her in my stupid car and she was shouting the lyrics at people walking along the street without a care in the world.” Steve slammed the trunk door, “I don’t want to reminisce about any of this. I don’t even want to be here, but Max wrote me that letter and begged me to come and told me all the things I was missing… she’s the closest thing I have left to (Y/N), and maybe I should have called more… but I can’t think about her without crying for hours. How am I supposed to go in there with the kids while they talk about her like she’s still around?” Steve was crying again, almost choking on his words. Eddie just looked at Steve with a slight frown, he opened his mouth to say something but the front door swung open.
“DINGUS!” Robin went running to Steve full force jumping on him, almost knocking him onto the ground. “I MISSED YOU!” She shouted as she hugged her best friend and Steve stood there holding Robin, sunglasses falling off his face as he stared into the distance.
Tumblr media
“Steve!” (Y/N) shouted from the doorway of one of the class rooms, “I passed!” she ran towards him and jumped on him, hugging him tightly.
“You got your license?” Steve asked her as he hugged her tightly.
“YES! And it’s all thanks to you! Now we both can get out of this town!” She exclaimed as other students pushed past the duo to exit.
“Where would we even go?” He smiled at her as she leaned back, almost slipping out of Steve’s grip.
“I don’t know, but I do know anywhere’s better than here.” She giggled and it was like music to Steve’s ears.
-
“You know I still remember the first time I let you drive my car.” Steve chuckled to himself as he turned to look over at (Y/N)’s body laying in the hospital bed, machines keeping her alive.
“It had snowed the night before and the road was icy, I really shouldn’t have let you drive but I did and you promised to go slow, but then your favorite song came on the radio, Sweet Dreams, and you accidentally hit the gas and we spun out and you screamed the entire time… It shouldn’t be my favorite memory but it is because after we stopped spinning you looked at me and giggled and then sang ‘Sweet dreams are made of this who am I to disagree’ and I told you that you should sing more.” Steve laughed slightly, “You said you sounded like a Muppet and I had to remind you that you don’t, that Tammy Thompson sounds like one. You laughed for a solid minute after that and missed the ending to the song…speaking off, Max brought a boombox over last time she was here, said music might help you heal or some shit. And Dustin found a copy of Sweet Dreams on cassette… I’ll put it on for you.” Steve got up out of the chair and put the cassette into the boombox, turning the volume up ever so slightly not to disturb any other patients.
As Steve turned around he heard the flat line noise coming from the heart monitor and nurses rushed into the room, one of them having to physically drag Steve out of the room.
Steve hadn’t stayed long after that as he lifted to the yelling and shouting coming from the room she had been in. The sounds of Sweet Dreams mixed in there and with that he left, not just the hospital but Hawkins and hadn’t returned until that December after Max’s constant begging once she got an address from Robin to send letters to.
Tumblr media
“Earth to Dingus… Hello? STEVEN!” Robin shouted as she slapped Steve.
“Ow! What the fuck was that for?” Steve exclaimed as he pressed a hand to his cheek.
“You went all space cadet on us! Now come on the kids are way too excited that you’re here, even Mike.” Robin grabbed a few of the presents and walked toward the door.
As Steve followed behind her he was greeted by the kids again as he set his sunglasses near the door. El turned toward Max and asked her question; Max just shook her and told her to not do that. Nancy handed Steve a mug full of hot chocolate and smiled softly at him as she gestured toward the living room. Steve nodded and walked into the living room and sat on the couch next to Dustin and sipped his drink, looking around he noticed the tree and the stockings on the mantle - each with their names on it but a spot had been empty.  Erica, El, Will, Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Robin, Nancy, Jonathan, Eddie, and… (Y/N) but his was missing and Dustin took notice of Steve’s curiosity.
“Oh yours is missing beca-” Dustin was cut off by Max throwing a game board piece at his face.
“What Dustin means is yours is missing because Robin lost it and we had to order you a new one! But we have all the stuff that goes in it upstairs, if it doesn’t get here in the next hour or so we’ll just give you the box!”  Max tells him before turning back towards the game and rolling the dice.
Will looked at Steve and noticed him staring at (Y/N)’s stocking, “It’s tradition…” Will tells him, “Bob still has one at my house and we still fill it with presents.”
El looked up at Steve and touched his arm, “She’s in a better place.”
Steve clenched his jaw, a better place is right here with him. That’s what he believed but everyone he’s met keeps telling him she’s in a better place. Steve slammed his mug down on the table, “Too bad it’s not what I believe.” Steve muttered before standing up and walking outside, sitting on the porch stairs.
Steve dug into his jacket pocket pulling out his wallet, inside his wallet was a creased Polaroid of him and (Y/N) that Max had taken one night, the two of them laughing at a joke (Y/N) had said but (Y/N) was staring at the camera and Steve was staring right at her like she put the stars, the sun, and the moon up in the sky just for him. “God I wish you were here, angel.” Steve wiped the tears from his eyes, “But you’re not coming back and I have to accept that.” Steve put the picture back in his wallet and threw it, “It should have been me!” Steve shouted, missing the sounds of footsteps coming up towards him, they stopped for a second and then picked up again.
“Steve?”
Steve’s eyes went wide and he looked up, “(Y/N)?”

My headcannons of my favorite characters being terrified of spiders
Daredevil/Matt Murdock
(After he told them he was daredevil) whenever he senses a spider in the office he’ll immediately go to Foggy or Karen and point out where it is exactly and be like “remove it immediately try not to kill it..”
Yes his no killing rule applies to spiders.
(Not a spider headcannon but i can’t just not include it) That rule applies to flies too. He’ll trap them in a cup or a bottle and then send them out. Sometimes they fly back in and he’s stuck in that cycle until it flies away.
When he senses a spider at home he’ll immediately hone in his senses on it and monitor it to make sure it’s not coming towards him. He can be occupied by that for hours.
Tries to focus his senses on other things like Karen or Foggy.
Hears stick in his head telling him to “man up” and that “it’s just a stupid bug matty. don’t be such a wuss.” He feels down for hours after that.
Foggy
Loves spiders. Absolutely adores them.
(idk how college dorms work but,) He would’ve kept a spider as a pet in college but Matt was very resistant. They tried for a compromise but Matt said he would ask for a new roommate if Foggy got a spider. Nothing personal Matt just wouldn’t be able to handle it. Foggy was put out by that but they were fine the next day.
Was the designated spider person as a kid. Was definitely called over to kill a spider multiple times a week. His answer was always “I’ll just let it out” and proceeded to pick it up with his bare hands..[me- shuddering at the thought. my dad does that. literally how??]
Subtly (AND FONDLY) makes fun of Matt’s fear of spiders in casual conversation sometimes. Just drops a “only way to get Matt out of the office is to mention that there’s a spider in there.”
He especially likes to bring it up when Matt is flirting. Just goes “I mean sure he’s super confident and brave until a furry monster crawls onto the table that he’s eating on.”
Bruce Wayne/Lego Batman
Is not afraid to shout “ALFRED THERES A SPIDER IN THE BATCAVE”
Will sprint full speed away from spiders
Has begged alfred to help him create an anti-spider spray.
[honestly i think dick would love spiders too but for this purpose i’m going to pretend he’s terrified of them too] Dick yells for his batdad when he sees a spider in his robin suit thinking that fearless batman could help him..Bruce went down the fireman pole into the cave, saw the spider, and went straight back up the pole. it was Alfred’s job to take care of the spider once more.
His no killing rule does not apply to spiders sorry spiders
At a Justice League meeting he once saw a spider on the table and honest to god threw 5 batarangs at it. The first 4 missed with how sloppily he threw them. The 5th one hit his target exactly. The league stared at him utterly dumbfounded and he stared at them for a few awkward moments before he grinned, then said “I’m batman” and left the meeting. [bro i’m gonna use that for every batman now i don’t care if it doesn’t fit their character it does now.]
Also at a JL meeting there was a spider on his arm and he panicked and wildly shook his arm. The spider flew off and he stared at it before throwing a smoke bomb at it. Once again the league stared at him. Someone muttered “we seriously have this dude apart of this team?” Batman took great offense to that and exclaimed “Heck yeah you got this dude apart of the team! Super epic batman.” he then crossed his arms looking smug and said “batman out” and threw down another smoke bomb.
Oliver Queen/Green Arrow
Spiders just kinda disgust him-especially when he was younger. He’ll immediately kill them on sight.
Back when he and bruce were attending the same school bruce would always ask oliver to kill spiders for him. He would always make fun of bruce for being unable to kill them himself.
Their friendship carried on into their adulthood. After both oliver and bruce’s identities have been revealed to the league batman makes silent eye contact with green arrow and green arrow shoots spiders down for batman.
Oliver once saw a spider in the bathroom on the mirror and without thinking he just straight up shot the mirror. He had no idea how to explain what happened as he was very clearly dressed as a vigilante. He just booked it and prayed no one figured out it was him. (He did bring the arrow thank you very much. He wasn’t that stupid.)
Klaus Hargreeves
Spiders unnerve him especially after he was locked in with ghosts. There were so many spiders in the corners. He tries not to think about that.
Pesters Ben into possessing him and killing the spider for him. Ben always relents and does it.
Will sometimes ask Diego to throw a knife at the spider or something.
Has asked Allison to rumor a spider once. Allison called him an idiot and laughed in his face.
Can sometimes trap the spider in a glass. He had absolutely no idea what to do after he trapped it so he just left it there and put a heavy object on top of the glass to make sure it wouldn’t escape.
Hangs out in the void and absolutely relishes in the fact that he’s never seen a spider in there.
Has asked Luther to get rid of a spider for him. Luther does it everytime. He always says “you need to get over this fear Klaus. You cant let a simple spider bother you this much.” Klaus notes that it was very similar to the ones Reginald gave him.

PIERCER!EDDIE
I started calling tattoo and piercing parlors after we hung up the phone this morning, and I found one in Hawkins who sounded promising. It was Dungeon's Tattoos, owned by Eddie Munson, my never ending crush. We managed to communicate well enough for me to find out it would be $35 for the piercing. He said under no circumstances could I be drunk during the piercing, so I got directions and called Robin. She said she'd take over my shift.
I got to Eddie’s shop within 20 minutes and he had 6-7 people in there waiting for piercings. I wandered around smoking a cigarette and looking at the various tattoo designs on the walls. All of the customers were women wanting belly button piercings, so it only took a few minutes for each of them, but by the time Eddie finished them all, it was 3 hours after. He locked up the shop, and handed me the paperwork to fill out giving my consent for a piercing. I quickly scribbled all my information on it before I could lose my nerve, and took a deep breath and told him, "I'm ready." He laughed and said, "You look like you are headed for the torture chamber!" I looked at him and smiled and said, "I think I am!" He said, "No, sweetie, this will bring you only pleasure."
I got up on the table as he got the supplies together and put them on a tray. I didn't look at them because I knew I would run if I saw the needle that was soon going to enter my most tender area. He removed his rings slowly then put his black gloves on and walked over to me, stoked my legs lightly as he moved my feet to the stir-ups. As he looked at my pussy spread there for him, I felt a trickle of my juices beginning its way down the crack of my ass. He spread my knees apart and sat down on an adjustable stool between them. He began probing at my pussy, looking for my clitoris. When he found it, I heard him kind of grunt and he said to me, "I'm going to have to stimulate you to do this." I told him to do whatever was necessary, that I really did want my clit pierced, even if I was terrified. "We'll have to do something about that," he said.
He began licking and sucking at my rapidly enlarging clit. He sucked it in between his teeth and bit down hard. He laughed when I jumped, and said, "The needle will hurt more than that." By then, I was so excited; I didn't care about the pain. All I could think about was how good having my clit pierced would feel during sex and all the time, actually. Eddie began sucking my clit hard, and I felt the beginnings of an orgasm. He waited until I was right there and then he bit me again. I exploded, cumming harder than ever before.
He stood up and explained to me that my legs needed to be strapped down, and I would have something inserted in my puss during the piercing, so as to prevent any sudden movements. He showed me the pliers he would use to clamp my clitoris during the piercing, and showed me a huge needle that would be used. My fear began returning. He looked down at my clit and said, "I'm going to have to stimulate you again, it's shrinking too much."
He sat down again, and touched the tip of his tongue to my clit, pushing on it lightly. Then he proceeded to massage my clit with his tongue, and began finger-fucking me with what felt like his whole hands. When I was on the verge of cumming again, he abruptly stopped. I shamelessly begged him to fuck me and give me some relief. He said, "That's a good idea", and he unzipped his jeans to pull out the biggest cock I've ever seen. "I'll use my dick to keep you still, while I pierce you."
He took the pliers in hand and used a piece of gauze to dry my clit. The rough texture made me even hotter, and I almost came then. He then used the pliers to grab onto my clit, and as he squeezed them shut, I felt both tremendous pain and pleasure. I felt the tip of his dick against my pussy opening, and I held my breath, because I was afraid him penetrating me was going to be painful. Suddenly he slammed his dick into me and before I could comprehend him being inside me, I felt the most horrible pain (no, wait, pleasure) of my life. He shoved the needle through my clit in that instant, and suddenly, I was pierced. I yelled out at both intrusions into my pussy, and then……..he put the ring through my clit. He began sliding his dick in and out of me rapidly. I felt so full, and it felt great, my clit was still tingling from the pain and from the alcohol gel on the ring he'd put in. He started telling me how tight my pussy was and how he loved to fuck the women that came in for genital piercings. He said he never allowed husbands or boyfriends to watch as he gave their women piercings, because he wanted to be the first to give them an orgasm with the rings in their clit.
He un-strapped my legs and told me to roll over on the table. I sat down in the chair again and said "I need to check and make sure the ring dangles properly." I felt him moving the ring a slight amount, and waves of pleasure started. I was just about to cum when he stopped touching it. He stood up and asked me if I was ready for him to make me cum. "Please, please make me cum," I begged him.
He spread my ass cheeks and bent over me. I felt his tongue sliding around my ass hole and dipping inside, He fucked my ass with his tongue for a few seconds and then stood again and pressed his dick into my pussy. He began slamming in and out of me, then suddenly stopped. He pulled his dick out of my pussy and I felt it at the entrance to my ass. "No," I said, "You'll rip me apart." He kind of laughed and I felt a quick tug on my new jewelry, and then I was having the most electrifying orgasm ever. He used that moment to shove his prick into my ass. I was cumming so hard I could barely breathe, and my ass felt like it was on fire. He got all the way inside me, then stopped to allow me to adjust to his size. He began sliding in and out of my ass slowly, and I felt the ring moving around. The sensations radiating from my clit were like none I've ever felt before. He began fucking my ass faster, and then I felt him swell as he got close to emptying his balls. He shoved into me until his whole cock was buried in my ass, and I once again felt a sharp tug on my clit. I felt his dick start pumping its load into me, as I starting cumming hard yet again. He pulled his dick out and I rolled off the table and began dressing.
I paid him for the piercing and left the shop. Every time I shifted in my seat driving home, I'd feel extreme pleasure, and I had to pull of the road twice for very intense orgasms. I couldn’t wait to see him at school the next day.

Long Live 6
May 10, 2003
“Mom. Steve.” he said as he came up and sat down by me at the table. “I’m nervous.” He says as he looks at us. He was always so confident so this was surprising to me. “What is it, sweetheart?” I ask, taking his hand with a soft smile. I was worried about him, but knew he’d be ok. The first 5 years of his life were hard because I was terrified the Upside Down was going to come back, but apparently they really got him in ‘86.
“Higgins has given me trouble for 4 years. What if he doesn’t let me graduate today?” he asks, looking at them both. He doesn’t know why he wouldn’t be able to graduate, but it constantly worried him because he’s the first blood Munson to graduate as he’s been so kindly reminded by Higgins.
“He’s been the principal for 20 years. He’s ancient.”Steve says softly. “You have had straight A’s the entire 4 years so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t graduate.”
“He’s right. He legally cannot hold you back.” I say brushing his hair back gently. I became a lawyer after I graduated and started helping the people of Hawkins despite hating them for what they did to Eddie. “If he tries I’ll sue him.”
He laughs softly and nods, “Ok..I’m going to change and then we can head to the high school.” He says before going upstairs.
When he was 13 I gave him his dad’s guitar pick necklace. What he really wanted was his Dad’s vest, but I hadn’t been ready to let go of it. When he was 15 I gave him his dad’s rings which he never wore. When he was 16 I gave him Eddie’s guitar. Now that he turned 18 I gave him Eddie’s vest. I could see him from our spot on the bleachers wearing it on the outside of his robes. Robin, Gareth, Jeff, and Grant were sitting by us with smiles on their faces.
From behind he reminds me of Eddie because he has his curls and build. He looked so much like him it made my heart ache. The only thing he got from me was my eyes and mouth. His personality was something unique to him. I knew it was going to be a kicker when he turned and gave me a thumbs up before going up to make his speech. Being Valedictorian was a huge deal and made me more than a little bit proud. “Hey everyone. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Eddie Munson. I am the first male Munson to graduate in a few generations. My dad and namesake would’ve been the first 17 years ago.” He says looking at everyone. “My entire highschool career I heard from my teachers and Higgins that I wouldn’t make it. That I was just another junior that would take after my grandfather and father. I’m supposed to talk about how great this school is and how wonderful my school career was, but in truth this school, and town, is terrible.” He walks away from the podium and gets back in line.
I smiled and shook my head with a small laugh. He looked back at us when Steve and Robin cheered for him. I waved before looking at Higgins’ face. It was red, angry, and he made an angry gesture to someone who started calling people. When they got to him they used his full name; probably to intimidate him.
“Edward Dustin Munson.” The woman calls. Eddie jr walked up on the stage, took his diploma, and flipped Higgins off before walking off. We didn’t stay after that; there wasn’t any point to staying. We all headed back to Steve’s house and ate and drank.
It was an hour later when he stood and cleared his throat, “When I was 15 I found my mom’s letters she wrote to my dad. I was nosey and read them. I took bits and pieces from them and created a song that I want to perform for you guys.”
He sat at the piano and began playing, “Don’t go tonight. Stay here one more time. Remind me what it’s like. And let’s fall in love one more time. I need you, now, by my side. It tears me up when you turn me down. I’m begging, please just stick around.”
“I’m sorry, don’t leave me, I want you here with me. I know that your love is gone. I can’t breathe, I'm so weak, I know this isn’t easy. Don’t tell me that your love is gone; That your love is gone.” He sings softly causing tears to run down my cheeks. “Don’t tell me that your love is gone; That your love is gone.”
“I’m sorry, don’t leave me, I want you here with me. I know that your love is gone. I can’t breathe, I'm so weak, I know this isn’t easy. Don’t tell me that your love is gone; That your love is gone.” He sings this repeat passionately and then quiets down again as he sings. He keeps playing as he drags out the word gone, “That your love is gone.” “I can’t breathe. I’m so weak. I know this isn’t easy. Don’t tell me that your love is gone. That your love is gone.” He sings slowly as he finishes playing. He stands as everyone claps. I walk to him and hug him tightly, “Thank you sweetheart. It was beautiful.” I say quietly and sniffle when he hugs me back.
“I love you, mama. Thank you for being my mom. You could’ve given me up or worse, but you kept me and raised me so thank you so much.” He says softly. “Oh baby. Neither of those were an option to me. I’m honored you’re my son.” She says kissing his cheek gently. “You’re getting too tall.” “You’re just short, mama.” He says with a chuckle as his girlfriend shows up. He kisses his mom’s head before going to his girlfriend.
After the party settled into a game of DnD I went upstairs and began to write a letter to Eddie. Something I hadn’t done in a few years.
Hey Eddie,
Our son graduated today. He wore your vest and necklace before flipping Higgins off and we were all proud. He became Valedictorian. Top of his class. He proved to this damn town what I already knew. Munson men are capable of great things. I miss you so much, but I have a lot of things I still need to do here. Ed has a girlfriend and she’s adorable. She’s like 5’2 with blonde hair and green eyes. Her name is Alicia. You’d have liked her. She body checked Andy’s kid for being a bully and bullying Ed. Steve plays DnD now and so does Robin. Gareth is our son’s godfather. The CC boys are good; Grant became a plumber, Jeff is a locksmith, and Gareth is a bartender musician. I gave him your lyrics. He’s gonna make it big one day, I just know it.
I am a lawyer now. I had just started classes last time I wrote to you, but I made it. I think it’s time for a change, but I’ll have to take Harrington. All he has is me, Robin, and Ed. Robin lives in Indianapolis with her girlfriend Sarah. They’re really happy and they’re having a baby soon. I just wanted to update you on what’s been going on here.
I’ll never be able to express how much you mean to me. Thank you for accepting me into Hellfire and it was a real treat baby. I’ll see you when I see you. I love you. ~Yours forever

A New Family
Robin sighed. She was buttoning up her dress and going through all of the possible ways she could reply to snarky remarks without making a scene. Leorio was sitting on his and Robin’s bed, reassuring her that everything would be alright.
“I know you hate your family, but won’t it be cool to prove them wrong?” Leorio asked. “They didn’t believe that you could get a boyfriend if you continued shifting gender so much, but you did anyway! Maybe they’ll be less…”
“Dickish?” Robin finished. “And even if I prove them wrong, I don’t think they’ll stop making fun of me. They didn’t want me to get a boyfriend, they wanted me to conform to their standards. I don’t know why you wanted to arrange dinner with them so badly.” Another sigh, and Robin dropped her hands down. “I finished getting dressed. Let’s go, so that we can get out of there quicker.”
Leorio gave a little chuckle. “Alright, alright. I’m sure they won’t mind if we come a little early.” He stood up, grabbing Robin’s arm and walking with her to their car. Once he got it started, and him and Robin buckled up, he started driving to Robin’s childhood home.
“Your leg is bouncing more than usual,” Leorio said to Robin. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the girl grab her leg and hold it down. “Look, I know facing your family is hard, but if they say anything that cuts too deep, I’ll stand up for you, alright?”
“We can always turn back, you know,” Robin said, in hopes of changing the subject. “The only thing that’ll happen is that I’ll have to block my mom’s number for a few days, then tell the police that I’m okay once she calls them.”
“And probably beg for them to make up a believable story for your mom so she doesn’t know you were just ignoring her.”
“Actually, what if you drop me off here, and I go take a taxi back home? That way you can tell my parents I’ve been kidnapped, and we can postpone the dinner. Maybe indefinitely.”
Leorio laughed. “It’s convincing, but I’ll have to pass. You’ll do great, I promise.”
Robin groaned, but said nothing else the entire car ride. After a few minutes that felt like hours to Robin, the two arrived at their destination.
“Remember, deep breaths,” Leorio told Robin as he unbuckled. “Stress can lead to a stomachache, and your mom can make some killer beef stew.”
Robin let out a stifled laugh. “I am excited to eat her cooking again.”
The two walked up to the door, arms looped together, and Leorio rang the doorbell.
Upon hearing her mother’s voice come from the other side of the door, Robin had a chill go down her spine. Deep breaths, she repeated in her head. When she heard the door being unlocked, she put on a big smile.
“Oh, Robin, Leorio!” Robin’s mother, Tashachel, chimed. “It’s so good to see you two, especially your female half, Robin!”
“Hi, Mom,” Robin managed to say through gritted teeth.
“Good evening, Mrs. Morwell.” Leorio unlinked Robin’s arm to squeeze her hand. “May we come in?”
“Of course!” Tashachel said. She sidestepped out of the doorway to let the couple in, then added, “Honestly, I’m just so glad my baby girl didn’t come in a suit and tie.”
Leorio squeezed Robin’s hand again before letting go to take off his shoes. He heard Robin give a halfhearted laugh, so he decided to do the same. “Oh, something smells really good in here,” he said, changing the subject.
“It’s a casserole, one of Robin’s favorites!” Tashachel said. From the kitchen, a beep was heard. “And you’re in luck,” she continued, “because it just got done!”
For the first time since yesterday, Robin’s face lit up. She extended her arm, grabbing the edge of the counter closest to the stove, then shrunk it back to regular size, letting her socks slide on the floor and claiming her spot as first in line for food.
“Hey, no fair!” Robin’s little brother shouted. “Mama said she doesn’t like you using your Nen for personal reasons!”
“It’s okay this time,” Tashachel laughed. “After all, she didn’t use it to shapeshift into a man.”
Robin held back the urge to roll her eyes, cutting out a piece of casserole and sitting at the table. Soon after, everyone else took a seat, and started eating.
“So, I hear you and Leorio have been living together for the past few months?” Robin’s father asked. He looked at Leorio as if he was trying to shoot lasers out of his eyes.
“Well, it’s a lot cheaper that way, you know,” Robin quickly said. “It’s not like we sleep in the same bed, you know.”
“But we-” Leorio started, and it was Robin’s turn to try shooting lasers out of her eyes. He quickly cleared his throat. “But we have been trying to cut expenses in other ways, as well,” he said. “Like, we make sure to live off of cheap foods instead of expensive ones.” Robin’s laser eyes went away, and so did her father’s.
“Ah, yes, I remember my early college days, too,” Tashachel sighed. “That was how I learned to diet on a budget. Sometimes the only thing I would eat all day was a carrot!”
Both Leorio and Robin gave nervous laughs.
“Oh, but of course you two aren’t in the same bed!” Tashachel said. “After all, I’m sure Leorio gets repulsed simply thinking about sleeping with that male half of yours, Robin!”
“No, no, that’s not it at all.” Leorio attempted a smile while waving his hand dismissively. “We’re waiting for marriage, of course. Speaking of-”
“Do you really need to insult my boy form every chance you can get?” Robin mumbled.
“What was that, honey?” Tashachel asked.
“I mean, seriously,” Robin continued, a little louder, “I’m presenting as a woman specifically so that I avoid any conflict dealing with it, and you continue to bring it up?”
“Oh, Robin, you’re overreacting,” Tashachel laughed. “I’m just looking out for you. You know I only want your happiness.”
“I am happy!” Robin yelled. “I’m happy when I decide to present the way I want! I’m happy that I found someone who loves me, no matter what gender I am at the moment! I’m happy that I get to live how I please when you’re not around! In fact, I think I’d be happier knowing that our ties were broken!” And with that, she left the rest of the casserole on her plate and started putting on her shoes.
“W… wait, Robin, what does that mean?” Tashachel asked.
“It means that I’m not a Morwell anymore,” Robin said, much calmer than she was moments ago. “I’m not your daughter, nor your son, nor your child. I’m not attached to this family anymore.”
“Robin!” Tashachel exclaimed. “You’re not actually disowning us, are you? Robin!”
“I’ll be waiting in the car, Leorio,” Robin said, then closed the door behind him.
The Morwells looked over to Leorio, who closed his eyes and rested his chin on his hands. “You know, I’ve always had to keep up appearances in front of you, but now that Robin’s free from you, I can finally speak my mind.” He took an exaggerated inhale, and a vein was suddenly visible on the side of his head. “You two are the worst parents I’ve ever met! How can you possibly see your child happy and try to shut that happiness down just because they’re not happy the way you want them to be?! You’re lucky Robin’s all grown up, because I would’ve called CPS on you if we’d met any earlier! You’re both abusive, manipulative assholes who will probably never change, no matter how much we spell it out for you!” After his outburst, he went to put on his shoes, as well. “And for the record, Robin and I have slept in the same bed!”
Once Leorio left the house, making sure to slam the door as hard as he could, he calmed himself down, making sure that Robin wasn’t the one doing the comforting. He looked inside the front window of the car, and could see Robin crying. He entered the driver’s seat, not saying a word.
“I did it,” Robin sniffled. “I actually did it.”
Leorio started the car.
“But what if that wasn’t the right choice?”
He started to back out of the driveway.
“I mean, if I think about it, my parents always made sure that I was fed and clothed and cared for. Even if their beliefs are a little outdated, maybe I was a little harsh.”
He drove out of the neighborhood, keeping careful watch over signs.
Robin took a choked breath. “This isn’t the way home.”
“That’s right,” Leorio finally spoke.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Robin said, although her voice was really nasally.
“Because I’m taking us to a good place to talk.”
“Mkay,” Robin sniffled, and continued to cry.
After a few minutes, Leorio stopped the car at a beach. “Come on, let’s destress in the sand.”
Robin nodded, getting out of the car. However, as soon as she walked to the front, Leorio came up to hug her as tightly as he could. “I love you,” he whispered in Robin’s ear. “I love you so much, and I’m so proud of you for the choice you made tonight. Personally, I think you made the right choice, but if you need me to, I’ll drive us right back over and you can make amends right now.”
“No, no, I don’t need that,” Robin laughed, her tears starting to fade. “I think I made the right choice, too. I love you, too.”
The two stayed that way for a little while, until Leorio exclaimed, “Oh! Right! There’s… another reason why I wanted to bring you out here, actually.” He let go of Robin, fumbling around his pockets. “You see, um, the… the reason that I arranged that dinner was to, um, get special permission for something. But, uh, that ended up being irrelevant, because of, well, you know.”
Robin watched as Leorio stopped hastily checking all of his pockets, keeping one of his hands in the back pocket.
“You know… I… I noticed that you don’t, uh, have a last name anymore. Is there anything you want to change it to in particular?”
“Leorio…” Robin whispered. She could feel tears starting to form in her eyes again.
“Like, uh, maybe Paladiknight?”
“Leorio, are you really doing this?” Robin asked. She covered her mouth with her hands.
“Look, what I’m trying to ask is… well…” he got down on one knee, finally pulling out a velvety box with a ring on the top of it. “Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” Robin yelled as soon as Leorio finished his sentence. “Yes, yes, yes, I will!” Without thinking, she tackled Leorio to the ground, hugging him tighter than a few moments before and planting kisses on his face.
“Robin, are you okay?” Leorio asked. “You’re crying again.”
“Of course I’m crying!” Robin laughed. “I’m happy crying because there’s nowhere else for my emotions to go but my tears.”
The two layed down in the sand for a little while longer, until Leorio said, “Can we get up so I can put the ring on you?”
“Yeah, we can do that,” Robin said, voice still wavering. They got up, and Leorio slipped the ring on Robin’s finger. The two shared one more kiss before going back to the car, and even then, Leorio had to focus his whole mind on the road, or he would glance too long at his sleeping fianceè. Fianceè. It was hard to wrap his head around using that word to describe Robin, so he opted not to while he was responsible for getting them home safely.
“You’re safe now,” Leorio whispered to Robin. “You can be true to yourself. I’ll still love you. I’ll love you ‘till the end of time.”
The two made it back home, and Robin was still asleep. Leorio got out of the car, then lifted Robin out of her seat, carrying her to their bed. She was sandy, her eyes were puffy, and her dress was in need of some touch-ups, but seeing her like this only compelled him to repeat the phrase:
“‘Till the end of time.”
