NICK CAVE TOUR POSTER 2017 18”x24" • Screen Print . HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! I’m a few days late on posting this. 9/22/22 was @nickcaveofficial 's birthday! In 2017, their management hit me up to design the tour poster. It was only available to the people that bought the VIP package - which also included a ticket to the show and a laminate with my work on it!!! Which I never got...grumblegrumble . This was a HUGE project for me. I LOOOOOOOOOOVE #NICKCAVE ’s music!! LOVE! So to get a chance to design a poster again for him was an honor. Even better - it was for the whole tour! In 2014 I got to design the poster for their Milwaukee, WI show! . If you scroll through - you can see the photo reference I took of my homie @a.sinners.heart posing as Nick Cave’s stunt double. He was in town when I started working on the project. . From there I sketched everything out in my sketchbook with a @prismacolor #colerase pencil. I had a small meltdown until my homie @dave_crosland talked me down from the ledge and helped me make sense of my composition. Then I lightboxed it onto an 8.5 x 11 sheet of #bristolboard and inked it with a @winsorandnewton series 7 sable brush. Then scanned it in at 600 dpi and did the coloring & color seps in photoshop! . Oh included is the alternate sketch I submitted but they felt the portrait of Cave was a better fit. NEVER THROW AWAY YOUR SKETCHES! I ended up using this for the @themurdercitydevils poster a few months later. WIN/WIN! And there's a pic of the art print I designed that was included with the 2017 tour poster drop - exclusive from my shop. . I was lucky enough to see the first date of the show with my best homie and amazing animator @crankbunny at the @kingsbklyn Such a beautiful theatre!!! Delayed due to the death of his son, this retrospective is a much more comprehensive overview than the previous 1998 16-track ‘best of’. That said, I have the 21 track 3 LP version of this release; there was another 45-track version released at the same time. Since I have all the albums already as well as the wonderful B Sides & Rarities comp that came out in 2005, this seemed an unnecessary and expensive purchase. It is, however, the best overview of the haunted and hauntingly beautiful Cave-world. It takes a resolutely random-appearing approach to track-listing, in that it is not chronological, it is not ‘big hits’ first, but from a musical sequencing point of view it works wonderfully. The tones and themes from song to song work well, sometimes in harmony (Higgs Boson Blues to Straight To You, for example) and sometimes in delightful discord (Love Letter to Red Right Hand, or The Weeping Song to Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!) The fact that there’s songs such as Love Letter on here, as well as one of the highlights from the brilliant Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, O Children, demonstrate that this is a compilation primarily for fans, or at least music fanatics willing to explore the variety that this master of songwriting and performance has to offer. Clearly you really do need the 45-track version to do Cave justice, particularly as this shorter release omits The Carny. Know how the down you so comfortably embrace, comes from. It comes from pain and extreme in humane conditions. Say no to down. I copied pasted the following: Every 6-8 weeks, these ducks and geese are pinned down, fully conscious, while their thickest and deepest feathers are painfully ripped from their chest - all for the down used in jackets, pillows, parkas, comforters and sleeping bags. This process is quick and forcible, causing severe tissue damage while the birds scream and struggle to free themselves. While being held down with such heavy pressure on their chest, they experience smothering and suffocation and can also get stress induced broken limbs and torn ligaments.
