Sages of Hyrule

💫Light and Dark💫

(I'm trying to learn to be consistent with them and failing miserably but it's okay)

More concept art for Sages of Hyrule! Tears of the Kingdom did NOT help when it comes to deciding the vibes I wanted for this. Same goes for Zelda's second dress design. And honestly? I'm accepting it. For Ganondorf, I sort of leaned towards the more wizard like appearance he takes on in WW and the concept art for the Oracle series. I won't go too into detail on him, yet, but the dark sorcerer vibes fit their story much better.

Art of the other Sages will hopefully be done soon.

(And yes, Link is absolutely taken aback by Zelda everytime he sees her).

Goddessdammit Linky, pull yourself together!! I headcanon that after the "The Dragon's Tears" and "Crisis at Hyrule Castle" quests, Link's behavior is so erratic and self-destructive that Purah and the sages strap him to chair and make an INTERVENTION!! They are WORRIED!! 😢 Poor Link misses Zelda so much💔💔💔

The sages! (and Link)

If there's one thing that I really love about tears of the kingdom, it's that you're no longer alone.

Breath of the wild really makes you feel the lonliness, everything is so big and so empty and quiet.

In tears of the Kingdom that's no longer the case, you have the sages with you at all times and you fight together and its Just ah. Very nice. Me Like it a lot

Sages of Hyrule: Forest and Earth

they're small, your honor, they can do no wrong

Time Elapsed: 53 minutes

Forest and Earth

The Sages of Forest and Earth are youthful, like the blossoms of spring. Don't let their supposed innocence fool you, however. They don't yet have a great understanding of their destiny, so they have no problem causing trouble here and there.

Dore

In this era, Koroks have the ability to return to Kokiri form... But the Deku Tree prohibits it, as it makes the forest children easy targets for the growing number of monsters who wish to corrupt Lost Woods. Dore, being a stubborn child, does not see reason for this restriction. When the apparent hero of the kingdom arrives to claim the Master Sword, she sees this as a chance to leave the woods on her own terms. Dore sneaks off to follow the hero without telling the Deku Tree so that she may live the life of a human being without worry. Of course, this deception can only last so long. Destiny doesn't hesitate for anyone.

Mekari

Like the Koroks, the Picori are not typically able to be seen by others unless they are of pure heart (usually only children). However, like the visible Kokiri form of the Koroks, Mekari's family has passed down the ability for him to change his size up to the average height of a Hylian child. It is when this ability is used that he can be visible. Mekari feels like an outsider amongst the Sages, as a Picori has never been one of them. He only knows the Hylian language from Dore, so he often struggles with formulating sentences or pronouncing larger words. Even so, he does not let it deter him from his duty as a Sage.

me: what if we subverted the imperialism trope with zelda realizing that rauru is the aggressor in the equation because 100 years is not enough time to wash away her diplomatic skills and she just knows that the gerudo people would not be hostile if not for a justifiable reason. sure, it takes a while for her to gain ganondorf's trust just based on her association with rauru and sonia, but he does end up trusting her somewhere down the line and fills her in on what's happening. she's absolutely horrified. as a result, she works alongside ganondorf to seal away rauru by gathering the sages and convincing them to protect their respective domains from conquest. but here's the twist: what if link still gets mentored by rauru's spirit at the beginning, and thinks rauru is a benevolent king? imagine zelda's last words to him in the final memory, nothing but a frenzied "link, do not trust the king of darkness!" but he doesn't know which king: ganondorf or rauru, because the gloom has corrupted ganondorf's body and rauru, who had unsettled him since the beginning. but then he realizes it's rauru, and it's deliciously ironic since rauru's power is light but as always, every light has a shadow.
