Day 13: Monster

Sometimes you have to become a monster to save something you love.

I saw this headcanon awhile ago that Dan didn't suddenly turn 'evil'. He chose to become a villan because making himself a threat- a world ending one- one that might even be strong enough to take out the Observants themselves...was the only way they would allow Clockwork to reverse time & save his family. And of course for it to work CW would have to be in on it.

So they plan it out. Some of Dan's anger is real and it took time for him to convince Clockwork- because beings who can see all of time do not like paradoxes that are effectively blind spots.

It has to be real because it has to be convincing. There are few places the Observants cant see, in & outside of the ghost zone. So Dan does horrible things, convincing himself it doesn't matter if it's all undone. The only people that will remember are Clockwork, him & his younger self- who deserve to know for letting it happen in the first place.

And when the day finally comes Dan puts on a good show, lets himself be 'defeated' & sucked into the thermos.

It's a very morally grey take on Dan that I think is interesting. Especially when combined with an equally morally grey Clockwork.

I have a lot more thoughts about this & how it could work, but I'll leave it here for now.
