He woke up to whimpering.

Lucina was asleep, curled up on her side, shoulders tensed and rolled forward. She muttered something–his sleep-addled brain couldn't decipher exactly what–but it sounded so distressed that he immediately sat up and gently shook her shoulder, concern replacing any tiredness that still lingered.

"Luci," he murmured, gently shaking her again when she simply tensed against his hand, giving no other response. "Lucina, wake up, it's okay."

Still, no response. She cried out something wordless, and then gasped his name. In the dim moonlight filtering through the cracks in the curtains, he could see that tears stained her cheeks, leaving gently shining tracks despite the clearly violent nature of her dream. Inigo tightened his grip on her shoulder, shook her a little bit harder. She gasped a little bit, a slight hitch in her breath, but then a shaky sob escaped her lips and Inigo swallowed thickly with uncertainty.

It was rare that she was so difficult to wake up. Their years of war had worn on all of them, and she was impacted arguably the most; still, even all these years later, she was a light sleeper, often woken merely by the sound of a door closing in the hall or Soleil quietly padding to the bathroom in the middle of the night to get some water. For even shaking not to rouse her...

He shook the worst thoughts from his mind before lying back down, wrapping his arms around her shaking form and pulling her close to his body, rubbing patterns on her skin.

"Wake up, Lucina," he murmured into her shoulder. "It's okay. It's just a nightmare. You're okay. I'm okay. We're all okay." She thrashed, likely lashing out to defend herself from whatever was haunting her, and he tightened his grip. She gasped, more audible this time, and he kissed her neck. She slightly relaxed against him, and when he looked up, her eyes were open. She was panting, and she reached up and wiped at her eyes as she relaxed further.

"Sorry," she whispered, and Inigo pressed a kiss to her neck.

"It's alright," he replied. She nodded, and he tightened his arms around her. "You don't have to apologize."

"Thank you for waking me," she murmured, grabbing his hand and bringing it closer to her so she could kiss it.

"For you, always," he murmured gently, peppering more kisses on her neck. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah," she said. She gently laughed, though it sounded self-deprecating even to Inigo's exhausted ears. "Just Grima again. He... he had you."

He kissed her neck. "I will never let him hurt you, even if he somehow comes back. That means I won't let him hurt me, either." A vow he had made once in the original timeline, once upon their reunion, once as he left for another world entirely. She smiled at the words, tipping her head back and relaxing further.

"I love you," he whispered. She smiled, closing her eyes.

"I love you too," she replied. She gently turned around in his arms to face him. "You can go back to sleep."

"You're sure?" he asked.

"I'm sure," she confirmed. He smiled, kissing her forehead.

"Don't hesitate to wake me again," he said. She smiled.

"I won't."

He laid back down then, with the assurance that she would wake him if she needed him. She rested her head on his chest, and he smiled as he closed his eyes. She started humming, and the vibrations in his rib cage reassuring him.

He fell asleep again quickly. She kept humming.

Reviewing the Chrom Supports because I need something to do while waiting for the Brave banner to drop.

no.1: Robin. My favorite. Both a reference to my favorite fe lord cannon romance (Sigurd and Deirdre) and even my second favorite one (Ike and Soren). The people who don't pair Chrom up with Robin astound me, the game gives you a man, tells you can break his heart ruin him, and you simply chose not to? Couldn't be me. I like what it does for Awakening's story, and I like how it makes Lucina suffer. Girl goes back in time to save her parents and the world and she finds out it's impossible to do both. Chef's kiss. Immaculate, their bond being central to the story and themes of Awakening makes it my favorite.

no.2: Maribelle. A sleeper hit for my second favorite Chrom pairing. If I ever to a play through of awakening where I play as male Robin, I'd pair Chrom up with Maribelle. I'm a sucker for childhood friends, and Maribelle having political ambitions (wanting to reform the judicial system) makes her a really interesting queen of Ylisse. Also Brady has the funniest version of the Chrom recruitment dialogue, "Is that how you speak to Ylissean royalty?" "I am Ylissean royalty!" Lives in my head rent free.

no.3: Olivia. Honestly Olivia and Chrom don't have to many actual interactions outside of their (not great) C-A support. But, while I don't have many feelings about Chrom and Olivia as a couple I do have strong feelings about Lucina and Inigo as siblings. I love them as siblings. They're so, so, funny. And Chrom!Inigo in fates, sitting on the floor of Xander's study having a crisis trying to figure out how he can see through his eye is something I have thought about. The only down side of them as siblings is that it means Owain is his cousin meaning Soleil and Ophelia are related and I think they should be girlfriends instead of second cousins.

no.4: Sully. They're both knights. Strong fighters. That's about all I feel about that. I honestly forget that they support. The recruitment Dialogue for Kjelle isn't even very different. She doesn't even say he's her father.

no.5: Sumia. The only one I actively dislike, my least favorite for a few reasons. First it's her only ending where she doesn't "Trade her lance for a stretch of pasture to raise a happy group of pegasi." Pairing her up with Chrom takes her out of her natural habitat, and I will call the cops for pegasus knight abuse. She deserves to settle down on a farm and live a peaceful quiet life. It's what she deserves. Second, I refuse to believe that Cynthia would mistake generic bandit 97 for her father. She recognised her mother's ring while both of them were mounted on their pegasi but she mistakes some guy, who doesn't have blue hair, falchion or a brand for her father! Although my distaste mostly come from the "She would be actively miserable as queen and should settle down to raise pegasi."

thinking of a time travel au for fates gen 2, because deeprealms are a terrible way to get the kids. but the campaign chosen doesn't necessarily dictate the kids you get

the timeline diverges as early as a few years before the game starts. this time, Corrin ends up on Rev instead.

found alongside Midori at a Hoshidan village. Mikoto discreetly asks Kaze to take in both girls and insists they be treated as important guests, particularly Kana. She's already there when Corrin is taken to the castle. (Dead in BR)

Corrin!Dwyer

blames himself for not being able to save M!Kana, and is the first person to encourage mutual cooperation between the two factions. Applies to be a butler at Northern Fortress to get close to Corrin, who recognizes him from her visions. Inherits Yato. (Dead in BR)

Kagero!Asugi

sticks around to help, but dyes his hair, changes his name (as in canon), and never tells his parents who he is. when his lady doesn't show up, he leaves to find her and takes on the name "Gaius". Caeldori's retainer. (Dead in BR)

Hinoka!Caeldori

falls into Ylisse, and while scouring the skies to try and find Asugi and to find out where she is, she's found by Phila. She takes on the name "Cordelia" and becomes a part of Ylisse's Pegasus Knight squad (Dead in BR)

Selena!Midori

deeply curious about her cousin Asugi and just young enough to not understand why he resents her so much. She's mostly kept off the battlefield. Is training to be F!Kana's retainer, and has her existence revealed by Soleil. (Does not exist in BR)

Lucina!Soleil

promptly ends up having her identity revealed to her parents because she has a brand, being the first one as well, after Laslow finds her in a bar. Is the first instance of Nohr realizing something is up. Inherits Falchion. Siegbert's retainer. (Dead in BR)

Nyx!Siegbert

first prince of Nohr and leader of the army. Also feels guilty for the loss of his two cousins. Runs into his mother before she ever encounters Corrin and is recruited alongside her. Inherited Siegfried. Does not tell his father until much later. (Does not exist in BR)

Rinkah!Mitama

Grows up close to Caeldori, due to her father formerly being the Queen's retainer. Next in line to be chief of the Fire Tribe, she attempts to find Caeldori and Asugi by heading to Hoshido. Reveals herself to Azama first. (Dead in BR)

Camilla!Velouria

second princess of Nohr and representative of the Wolfskin. Was raised mostly isolated from the human world. Is the second person to reveal herself. Winds up at Mt Garou and tracks down her father. (Does not exist in BR)

Charlotte!Ignatius

One of the last characters to join the cast. He is found with Shigure and is relieved to find that the two factions are getting along. Is the first person, alongside Shigure, to make sense of Valla. Dwyer's retainer. Charlotte recognizes immediately. (Does not exist in BR)

Elise!Kiragi

Second youngest of the Hoshidan and Nohrian families. Grew up in Hoshido before his father died protecting him and his mother, before moving to Nohr. Inherited Fujin Yumi. Readily reveals himself to his parents. (Does not exist in BR)

Jakob!M!Kana

Inherits Yato after his brother dies. Reunites with his sister after his grandmother orders Kaze to quietly bring him to the castle as well. Due to his blade, the royal family is also informed about the appearance of children from the future. (Dead in CQ)

Hinata!Shigure

second prince of Nohr. Is just old enough to recall his mother. Inherited her writings and her song, alongside the warnings that come with it. Mentioned above, becomes friends with Ignatius. (Does not exist in CQ)

Azura!Hisame

third prince of Nohr. The sword he carries is the same one his father named after him. While okay with an alliance with the other faction, is stubbornly against revealing their identity to their parents. Joins as a samurai at the castle to be able to watch over his mother. (Does not exist in CQ)

Mozu!Rhajat

next in line to be chief of the Wind Tribe. Is very close to Forrest. Winds up in Plegia after being chased by Faceless, only to run into Grimleal. Takes on the name "Tharja". (Does not exist in CQ)

Sakura!Forrest

first prince of Nohr. Is very excited to find out he has cousins in another world and wishes to get to know his aunt and uncle. One of the first to reveal himself, namely to Sakura, once she and the rest of Corrin's gang head to Izana's place. Inherits Brynhildr, but struggles to use it. (Dead in CQ)

Noire!Ophelia

grew up in Ylisse without her father, eventually deciding to chase him down because she was unwilling to believe he was dead. Ended up getting roped into fighting, and wastes no time introducing herself to her father. Forrest's retainer. Has her existence revealed by Soleil beforehand. (Dead in CQ)

Orochi!Shiro

first prince of Hoshido and the leader of the army. Feels responsible for losing Dwyer and M!Kana. When alternate Dwyer approaches him with friendship in mind, he is initially apprehensive but agrees. Kagero finds him first as he tries to warn her about Mokushu. Inherits Raijinto. (Does not exist in CQ)

Oboro!Nina

Forrest's retainer. Stays with Forrest and does not wish to reveal her identity. Aids Hinoka and the rest in saving Sakura, requesting only that they hear Forrest out. (Dead in CQ)

Felicia!Selkie

representative of the Kitsune. Grew up close with Dwyer and Kanas. Shiro's third in command after Asugi dies and witnessed Dwyer's death. Winds up at Kitsune Hamlet and misses most of the action. (Does not exist in CQ)

Beruka!Percy

Treated by Forrest as a younger sibling. Was taken in by Camilla after his parents' deaths. Used to the kind, motherly version of her, he tries to tell her immediately. Soleil is thankfully there to stop him. Kept off the battlefield due to his age. (Dead in CQ)

Hana!Sophie

First Dwyer's, then Kana's retainer. Chooses to reunite with her father first, introducing herself as a distant cousin. After he disappears, she attempts to track him down. (Does not exist in CQ)

I used to draw a bunch of specifically Lucina Soleil, and sometimes headcanons were shared with me!! Lucigo was my first big ship so I was absolutely stoked when fates gave us Soleil!!
