Day 27 #Presents in the #snowymangatops challenge!

I’ve selected the scene from #YourName where #Mitsuha presents #Taki with her braided cord from when she goes to visit him in Tokyo.

Your Name was an insanely popular anime film that released in 2016, with the manga and light novel adaptions coming out after the film. It starts of as a comedic trope of two high schoolers, Mitsuha from the rural town of Itomori and Taki from Tokyo, who wake up one day with their bodies switched. As they try to find equilibrium in their daily lives, they set rules on how to live each other lives so that they can manage until they can figure out what is going on. Mitsuha helps out Taki with his love life, encouraging him to take his date out to go and see a passing comet, but the date ends badly so he decides to give her a cal, but cannot reach her - and this is where their body switching ends. Determined to find this girl, he sets out to locate her town, but what happens when he discovers the truth of Itomori?

I remember watching this in the cinemas and it was very dramatic with so many ups and downs where you as the viewer didn’t know what was going to happen or what to expect. If you haven’t seen the movie or read the manga, I recommend checking it out.

Day 25 - #MerryChristmas!

Hurray for having an anything goes theme!

My selection for this one is #BloodyMary - this was actually the first #shonenai #vampire series I’ve read, and I quite enjoyed it. In this world, humans and vampires exist, and two individuals - “Bloody” Mary, the unkillable vampire, and Maria the priest, cross paths. Mary is desperate to die and begs Maria to release him from his eternal suffering, but Maria is unable to kill him as his powers of exorcism have been sealed: so the two strike a deal. Mary will become Maria’s bodyguard until Maria can find a way to kill him.

The story had a surprising amount of background and as readers, we are only revealed information about the characters as needed, but there are so many hints throughout. I actually went back and re-read it a second time, and a few of the comments made more sense./seemed a lot more obvious. I like the dynamic between the two main characters and how they both fight with and support one another. I also really enjoyed finding out the reason behind Mary’s immortality.

Day 21 of #snowymangatops - I have been waiting for this day as I knew EXACTLY what scene I wanted to use for this! 😂

Here we see the wonderful #Takane from #TakaneandHana dressed up as #santa then poor Hana’s reaction as she runs away. I really, really love the way these two act with each other. Takane just has no idea how “common” people behave and tries to form his own strange traditions and behaviours, and Hana either puts up with it, pretents to ignore his existence, or simply runs away. 🤭🤣

Day 19 in #snowymangatops (I’m slowly catching up!! 😱)

I don’t have any scenes that have #candycanes in them so instead I’ve selected the spines from #shojobeat series, #TheGentlemensAllianceCross for red and white spines.

I actually read this series back in 2012, but I cannot for the life of me remember the plot, so here is the synopsis: In return for a business loan of 50 million yen, the prestigious Kamiya family gave their daughter Haine away to the Otomiya family. Haine, now an Otomiya, is appointed to the student council of the exclusive Imperial Academy, a private school for the aristocracy. Even though Haine is of proper lineage to be on the council, she finds herself struggling to find her place among the many secrets of its elite members, especially those of the president who holds her heart–Shizumasa Togu, aka “the Emperor”.

I can’t really comment on this one, as I don’t even remember the plot, so I’ll need to go back and read it. It’s written by #mangaka Arina Tanemura, and I’ve enjoyed her works such as Full Moon o Sagashite, ION and recently Idol Dreams. I’ll need to go back and read this series.

So instead, I’ve grabbed my #mangaboxset for #ASilentVoice and placed it in front of my actual Christmas tree

I haven’t read it yet, but here is the synopsis from @kodansha_comics Years ago, Shoya Ishida led his peers in tormenting a hearing-impaired classmate, Shoko Nishimiya. When she transfers schools, Shoya finds he has gone from bully to bullied, and is left completely alone. Now Shoya struggles to redeem himself in Shoko’s eyes and to face the classmates who turned on him.

I saw the movies when it was in theatres and really enjoyed the story. It really shows the effects of bullying but also allows the characters a way forward to be redeemed and grow.

Day 15 of #snowymangatops is #TreeswithNoLeaves

I’ve selected a scene from #YonaoftheDawn which features a tree in the winter snow without any leaves.

Yona of the Dawn details the story and struggle of Princess Yona who after her sixteenth birthday, witnesses the assassination of her father at the hands of the man she had loved: Su Won. Reeling from the shock of this, she herself is nearly killed but is saved by her loyal guard and close friend, Hak. The pair flee from the Castle and from here, they decide what it is they must do in order to live and survive. They seek the advice of a Priest who advises Yona that if her idea of living is not a life of peace. “For you, living means calling up a storm that will shake Kohka to its very foundations.” The Priest reveals to her the voice of God and sends her on her way to find the Four Dragons of the Kohka Kingdom.

This is an #fantasy, #adventure series with some really sweet romantic scenes between the characters. Be warned - this is not a fast paced #romance series. Yona is a little dense when it comes to love, having only ever loved Su Won her whole life, but over time, her and Hak begin to explore their relationship as they become closer. It really rewards the readers when they finally do take that step together.

There are 21 volumes out with volume 22 due for release February 2020.

Ok! I figured out how to tackle day 11 in the #snowymangatops challenge. I’m sorry @takunoshibooks but I’ve deviated from manga as I only have the #lightnovel in physical form.

The title I’ve picked for the theme #elf is #AnArchdemonsDilemmaHowtoLoveYourElfBride It was the only title on my shelf that had an elf in it. I grabbed the sample of the manga from the kindle store though and have added the #manga screenshots to my Instagram post so it hopefully falls within the rules of the challenge 😅

Zagan is feared as evil sorcerer, known for his foulmouth and beating down any trespassers in his domain. He is socially awkward, rarely interacting with anyone and lives a life of seclusion. Invited by a friend, he attends an auction for rare “ingredients” and there he finds there is an elven slave girl of peerless beauty, Nephy. Having fallen in love at first sight, Zagan uses up his entire fortune to purchase her. Taking his home, he realises one important factor: he has no idea how to talk to the girl he loves and thus begins the awkward relationship of a sorcerer who can’t convey his feelings and an elf who has no idea how to best appeal to him.

Their relationship is rather awkward yet cute. I like that Zagan is seen as such a dark and evil character yet is so socially clumsy. There are 2 volumes of the light novel in physical print out by #jnovelclub, 2 of the #manga volumes on Kindle and up to Volume 8 available digitally on Kindle.

The scene is from Volume 6 of #TakaneandHana from @vizmedia where the pair are on a Christmas date.

The story follows 16 year old Hana and 26 year old Takane who meet when Hana replaces her sister at an arranged marriage meeting. Dressed up to conceal her age, Takane insults her, saying she was only interested in money. Angered, she throws her wig at him, storming out of the room, claiming she doesn’t have an ounce if interest in him. Thinking that was the end of it, she receives a message from her father saying Takane wants to meet with her. She rushes home, disguises herself as her sister again and Takane claims to have taken interest in her, claiming he has never had a problem getting a girl, but Hana rejects his advances. They reach an agreement to keep up the facade of the arranged marriage meeting and thus begins their strange game of romance trying to get the other to yield to the other.

Normally I’m not a fan of “age gap” romances but I think #YukiShiwasu tackles it very well. Their personalities clash and the two bicker over mundane things as they explore their new arrangement. There isnt any weird forced romantic interactions and the characters can be very stubborn yet bashful with their actions. There are currently 12 volumes out, with volume 13 dropping in February 2020.

Day 7 of @takunoshibooks #snowymangatops challenge

The theme for day 7 it’s #warmcozy

I initially flicked through my manga collection to find a scene of the characters dressed in warm clothes but I decided to look at warm and cozy feelings instead.

This is a scene from Volume 4 of #NatsumesBookofFriends by #YukiMidorikawa where Natsume has gone and bought Toko a gift. I really enjoy this series as it is filled with many moments like this where Natsume is reflecting on the kindness of those around him and the warmth in his newfound family. This series has a special place in my collection as it helped me when I was in a rather dark stage of my life and had severe depressive episodes. Despite feeling so down on life, I felt that seeing Natsumes struggles and his positive outcomes helped inspire me to push through my own. I’m now in a much better place and it is still a favorite series of mine.

The series follows the story of a teenage boy named Natsume, who can see spirits. He inherited this ability from his late grandmother and also inherits her notebook called the Book of Friends which she used to bind spirits under her control. Several spirits are after the book to try and gain control of them but Natsume wants to protect them so rather than let the book fall into the wrong hands, and given that he has no interest in using the book for his own gain, he decides to return each of the names. It is a series that is filled with many greetings and farewells as well as strong emotions.

I’ve picked the cover of #Rimuru wearing a scarf for the #winterclothes challenge

This series is called #ThatTimeIGotReincarnatedAsASlime based on the #lightnovel of same name.

An #isekai themed adventure it follows the story of Satoru Mikam who died after being stabbed. He is reincarnated into another world as a Slime. Whilst in a cave, he comes across the sealed #StormDragon #Veldora who bestows him the name Rimuru Tempest and the two forge a friendship. Rimuru offers to use his unique skills to free Veldora from the seal. Along the way, Rimuru meets with different monsters and faces challenges along the way as he tries to establish a place for himself in this new world.

Volume 11 was released in October this year by @kodansha_comics with Vol 12 slated for release March 2020 and Vol 13 in June 2020. It’s a fun, adventurous series with different action and battle scenes and a wide range of characters.

Day 1 of #snowymangatops challenge

#WinterCover I picked Volume 11 of #KamisamaKiss by #JuliettaSuzuki which features the main character #Nanami wearing a scarf.

This was actually one of the first ?long #manga series that I completed collecting. It’s 25 volumes long and is complete. Not only that though but it’s properly complete with most of the ends tied off and just leaves you feeling so happy and fulfilled at the end of the series. If you enjoy #shojo manga, this is definitely at the top of my list.

It follows the story of a girl named Nanami who was abandoned by her father and left homeless. While pondering what to do next, she meets a God who decides to leave his home and shrine in her care. This is when she meets the fox familiar named #Tomoe who absolutely refuses to acknowledge her as the new Mistress of the Shrine.

If you enjoy romantic comedies, I recommend checking out Kamisama Kiss.
