Chapter 12: Late Bloomer

{Kids}: Julius Alors- 8

It was a beautiful spring day, and all the kids had gone to play at the park. Julius sat on one of the swings as he watched the other kids his age using their magic that most of them had learned about two years ago. He still hadn’t found his magic and was starting to think that he would never get it. Noticing that someone had moved in front of him he looked up to see his dad.

“Hey, why aren’t you playing with your friends?” Max asked, kneeling down so that he was at eye level with the little boy.

“All of them have their magic and I still can’t do anything, I’m going to be magicless forever!” Julius yelled, letting go of the swing and falling into his dad’s arms.

“You are not going to be magicless forever, you just haven’t found the magic meant for you. Do you want to know a secret?” Max said, ruffling Julius’ hair. The eight-year-old nodded his head, a look of curiosity on his face.

“Well I didn’t get my magic until I was ten, but I kept trying different things. Now don’t tell anyone about this.” Julius’ jaw dropped in surprise, he had thought that his dad learned his magic pretty early on.

“Can I try using sand magic one more time?” Julius asked after he got over the shock.

“Sure, but only if you promise that you won’t get upset if it doesn’t work,” Max said, leading Julius over to a clear spot on the grass. After about fifteen minutes of practice, Julius was able to make a small amount of sand appear. The two ran over to show Laki and as a celebration, the family went to get cookies.
