#maybe some of this is because the name Dahlia makes me think of Dahlia Hawthorne

I don’t know why, but I can’t get it out of my head that the name Black Dahlia Cookie to me sounds like White Lily’s lesbian lover, and/or a character that’s supposed to be opposite to her in some way
I think I first heard the name when @amythecat2001 and I were discussing names for a new character of hers, and it’s stuck with me since

The top two characters will be eligible to proceed into the bracket!
Propaganda under the cut.
Dahlia Hawthorne:
did a lot of murders and poisonings but they deserved it imo so she’s ok
She has committed so many crimes. And in an outfit that wouldn’t look out of place on Barbie at that. She’s the DEFINITION of girlboss, and she can poison me any time.
Aura Blackquill:
her brother got framed for the murder of her wife and she became bitter and evil because of it. this led to her holding an entire space center full of people hostage to get him a retrial
So she may have a robot army to take a couple people hostage, and blamed an 11 year old child for killing their own mom (who was her work partner and maybe sort of girlfriend), but in her defense her brother was about to be executed for a murder he did not commit and there was definitely some evidence that pointed towards the 11 year old being the culprit. So what else was she supposed to do? Just sit by while another important person to her is taken away and the real killer gets to go free? She tried to do things right and go through the police but that didn't work, and sometimes when you run out of options and run out of time you have to use unconventional methods. And in the end it worked and the execution was cancelled and the real killer was found (it wasn't actually the 11 year old child, now 18, but that's beside the point), so in the end things were ultimately better as a result of her actions so you can't exactly say she shouldn't have done it. So she did some things wrong but they are also understandable. I don't think she's a bad person deep down, she just got screwed over by the broken justice system.
Kidnapped a bunch of people but it was like. So the courts would do a retrial for her brother because she believed he was innocent (he was) a day before his execution, and so who she believed the true killer was (she wasn't) would take his place (she didn't) Also a lesbian <3
Franziska von Karma was submitted without propaganda, but I know AA well enough to attempt to write my own. She is obsessed with the idea of crafting the "perfect case" and goes so far as to hide evidence, manipulate witnesses, and also physically assault everyone with a whip in order to achieve it. However she was only doing it to avenge her adopted brother and at the end of the game she comes around and ends up delivering the crucial piece of evidence to save the protagonist's assistant from being killed by an assassin.
Dee Vasquez was submitted without propaganda. My attempt: She has ties to the yakuza and blackmailed one of the actors at her studio into basically being a slave to her. When he gets fed up and ends up trying to kill her she kills him in self-defense, making her one of the few "true culprits" in the series who would actually be found not guilty in an IRL court of law.
Ini/Mimi Miney was submitted without propaganda. My attempt: She was overworked to the point that she accidentally killed about a dozen people by switching their meds while sleep-deprived, then felt so bad about it that she got into a car crash, stole her sister's identity, and pretended she was dead for years. Then she killed a guy because she was worried about him revealing her secret.
Jezaille Brett / Assa Shinn:
prime example of god forbid women do anything. like cmon she just killed a bunch of people and left no trail behind so masterfully she up and haunted the entire goddamn narrative. her name is mentioned in secret messages in streets in papers in fear in mystery and we don't know her motivations still; why does she do what she does we do not know, and will never find out. fucking girlboss she's there for one case then the next we see her she's dead. what is up with this woman and why is she so important despite not seeming so ever.
Olive Green:
She qualifies as after her fiancé died from gas inhalation, she had questions about his death and suspected one of his fellow tenants to have murdered him rather than it being an accident. She consequently attempted to murder him. She rocks because we have to stan a vengeful woman!!!!!
Iris Hawthorne / Sister Iris Hazakurain / Sister Iris of Hazakura Temple:
well she’s more morally ambiguous than her sister!!!! she covered up a lot of crimes and lied about her identity to her (long series of hand gestures to indicate how complicated the boyfriend status is) Sorta Boyfriend for. like nine months i think. and she would have gotten away with it too if not for her co-conspirators fucking everything up

For fun and profit, my queer headcanons for Ace Attorney characters:
Phoenix Wright: Aroace trans guy. He's trans because his name's Phoenix. He's ace because the game series is called Ace Attorney. He's aromantic because having a girlfriend try to kill him in college traumatized him, and after working on it in therapy, realized that he simply did not want or feel the need to date anyone anymore. Since this does not ultimately negatively affect his life, he decided that it wasn't worth the emotional pain of trying to work through it. Perhaps he'll feel different in the future, but for now, he's aromantic.
Maya Fey: Aromantic trans girl. She's aromantic because I like her. She's trans because it genuinely enhances her narrative by reinforcing the lack of agency she has in her life, and how she can learn to reclaim it anyway.
Miles Edgeworth: Autigender gay aroace. Haven't decided where he is on the aroace spectrum, but he's all that AND gay because he has the vibes. He's autigender because I like projecting.
Diego Armando: Bi ace genderqueer. Bi and genderqueer bc the vibes are off the charts, ace because I think it's interesting and also because I feel like I don't have enough alloro ace headcanons in general.
Mia Fey: Bi nonbinary girl. Girl with left gender. What gender? Diego's earrings, probably. Bi because of her implied relationship with Diego and her accidentally implied relationship with Lana. Might also screw around and put her on the aro spectrum because I believe we deserve some more alloaros up in here, and because I think it could potentially make her relationships to Diego and Lana very interesting.
Dick Gumshoe: Aromantic and bi but in the kind of way where he knows Nothing about the queer community and has done no self reflection on it. Maybe also a trans guy bc I think he deserves to be but that would require him having some knowledge of the queer community and decrease the humor.
Franziska von Karma: Pan! But she knows even less about the whole thing than Gumshoe. Doesn't start thinking about her sexuality until Miles calls her up with a formal coming out notice, after which she hangs up and does 48 hours straight research until she collapses. That research was mostly because nobody is allowed to know more about anything than she does but it did lead to her figuring out she's pan so there's that. Still debating her gender because I think she deserves to be trans but also I think the idea of 'cis ally with a whip' is HILARIOUS.
Pearl Fey: I don't really have any set headcanons for her but I do think it'd be kinda neat if she was genderfluid, because it'd be interesting to see how that'd interact with her powers, and provides some really unique opportunities for character study.
Dahlia Hawthorn: Aromantic trans girl. I think aromantic serial killers have rights if written by me or other aros and I think it'd be neat if she and Iris both independently figured out they were trans. I think there's some really strong narrative potential for Fey trans girls.
Iris: Straight trans girl. Already mentioned the trans girl part, but I'd like to add that I think it'd be super interesting for Maya and Iris to compare notes on their trans experiences and help each other along the way. Also I think Iris deserves to be transhet because she has truly immaculate taste in men.

do you have any thoughts on the dynamic between iris and dahlia??
Ooo that’s an interesting one.
There is a wide spectrum of sibling dynamics in this game. We’ve got the Mia & Maya dynamics, the Apollo & Trucy dynamics, the Miles & Franziska dynamics, but then on the other side of that spectrum we have the Gavins or, case in point, Iris and Dahlia.
Listen. Dahlia on her own is fascinating. Iris on her own is also pretty fascinating. But when viewed as a pair? Good lord. Horrible and awful and deeply interesting all at the same time.
I mean, right off the bat, Dahlia at the age of maybe eight?????? don’t fact check me on that one convinced her father to just Get Rid Of Her? Because they had too many children?? Like. That’s fucked up. That’s horrible. That’s wild. That’s gotta be traumatizing for any child. And it’s gotta at least affect both of them deeply, like. Iris is abandoned for being “An Extra Dahlia” which, you know, I think clearly fucks up her own values, self perception, and self worth for years to come. And then Dahlia knows that she can do this kind of shit and get away scot free, and learns that anyone, even family, can be used and tossed out, that’s not healthy for any child’s development either.
God. Like. Can you even imagine? Your father (a wealthy jeweler by the way, so he has the MEANS to take care of all the children) just deciding he only needed to keep around one twin and basically gives the other one to a convent? What the fuck is wrong with Mr. Hawthorne??? Then of course there’s the fact that Morgan’s constant 4D chess meant she didn’t give a shit about them either, so it’s clearly coming from all sides in this family.
Honestly, I think Iris being given up by the Hawthornes was probably the most formative moment of her life. Like, on the one hand, she gets Bikini, who is this kind, motherly woman who actually cares about her. On the other, I think it really cemented in Iris’s mind that she is the Extra Dahlia, the extraneous twin who doesn’t have any value in herself. Dahlia, too, I think internalized that. Iris is the extraneous twin, the less important twin. She’s the shier twin, the weaker twin. Of course, Dahlia also sees the rest of the world like a tool to be used, but I think that goes double for Iris because she’s where Dahlia learned to think that way.
Then, of course, there’s Iris’s various ‘betrayals’ of Dahlia. Like, Iris does some pretty heinous shit for Dahlia, so it’s interesting to see what she draws the line at. She agreed to help steal the diamond and frame a man for it, but chickened out at the last second. Dahlia almost died, and Iris felt horrible about it, even if Dahlia is the one who put herself in that situation. Iris later agrees to date Phoenix under a different name to get the necklace back, and comes to realize that she would be willing to betray Dahlia again to save Phoenix, I assume both out of guilt and love. Like, that’s a lot of extreme stuff she was doing for Dahlia, and a lot of people she was betraying for her.
And again, I feel like her becoming “Dollie” is just another part of her being unable to become her own person, her being the “extraneous twin”. She gives up her identity for Dahlia, to ‘protect’ Dahlia in her own way. She didn’t care about Phoenix initially, she only cared about Dahlia having to dirty her hands, having to stain her soul.
Really Iris is always perfectly willing to sacrifice herself in all her interactions. She goes with Godot’s plan, willing to sacrifice herself for Maya. She sacrifices her own autonomy and identity to date Phoenix for months. I don’t think she really knows how to live for herself after everything she’s been through with Dahlia.
On the flip side, it’s very interesting to pick apart “Iris’s” dialogue after the switch. The first time through it’s hard to catch it, but once you know where the switch takes place (namely when they put up more trick locks in the inner temple), you can really see a lot about how Dahlia views Iris.
I already talked about Iris’s guilt toward her sister, but a lot of the dialogue about her guilt are actually Dahlia pretending to be Iris. (Not all, just most.) Iris was scared and ran away during the heist. She betrayed her sister, and that’s why she deserved any and all punishment she received. It’s a little hard to parse out which parts are Dahlia playing the role of Iris and which parts she truly believed, but at the end of the day, her focus on guilt and betrayal was what she went with when pressed about ‘her sister’ while in her disguise.
Like. There’s absolutely some anger there. Iris was the one who betrayed Dahlia, after all. Iris was at fault. Iris was weak. I really wonder which parts of her Iris imitation were accurate? If Iris had expressed any of that to Dahlia?
I do think it’s interesting how outwardly similar they present themselves. Dahlia takes so much, she even takes Iris’s personality and wears it like a mask. She knows how to play the victim, how to be sweet. Actually, how much of Dahlia’s presentation is her imitating Iris, and how much of Iris is her taking from her sister?
Anyway, there you have it. A rather parasitic relationship if you ask me. One sister who makes sacrifice after sacrifice, and one sister who does nothing but take and take.
Man. What a fun game.

okay okay okay
i know this isnt an orginal idea by any means but roleswap!narumitsu is just so good
so youll have to indulge me because this lives in my head rent free and i want to write it down concretely somewhere (also this gets LONG so ill pop a cut in here)
alright so:
1. at least in my writing of it, this is also a no-dl6/gregory lives au. but as well at that, miles and phoenix didnt go to school together
2. this means that there was nobody to defend phoenix at the class trial (yes i know the money stolen was edgeworths but shhh lets pretend it was someone elses, kay?) this lead to phoenix becoming not only bitter, but somewhat obsessive over the idea of punishing people that do wrong
(if someone can find that quote where phoenix talks about how he could have become a prosecutor because of the trial i will give u a gentle kiss on the forehead)
3. Edgeworth was raised by Gregory and ends up becoming a defense attorney
4. in this, Von Karma goes down and Franzy is adopted by Gregory, and she assists Miles in his cases. (she can still have a whip, as a treat.)
5. anyway with that set up, lets get into some cases
6. Larry gets accused of Cindys murder, Miles defends with Franzy
7. Lets say Mia was in the crowd of that trial and decided to contact miles, seeing as he appears to be another uncorrupt lawyer and asks him for his help in taking down Redd White
8. He agrees, and she sets a time for him to meet at her office so they can talk. Mia then calls her sister and updates her on how shes going to recruit another person (Redd White hears this)
9. Much like the original case, Mia gets murdered, but this time, Maya isnt here to be blamed. Instead, its Miles himself, as the name that White heard over the phone (so basically we’re speed running to the “defend yourself in court” part)
10. the prosecutor today is Phoenix Wright.
11. but before that lets go into some backstory actually. Phoenix had encountered Mia previously during the Terry Fawles case. He had respected her as a peer, if not for just her determination and deductive skills. (After all, he was young at the time and solely focused on punishing the wicked) After Diego’s poisoning, he had briefly reached out for condolences
12. but anyway, Phoenix had distantly respected Mia, and now that she was dead, he was going to be tough on whoever he thought murdered her.
13. Miles proves his innocence, although it takes some baiting to get Redd White out of his building and actually into court.
14. Wright is... not pleased about this, but theres not much he can do. His displeasure for Mias murder has shifted, but theres a new displeasure for Miles, the man who could beat him in court. (”well well well, you managed to save your own skin. But you should hope you get as lucky as you did in your next case”)
15. Next case! We know Miles is a steel samurai fan, so even without Maya it takes very little convincing for him to take the case. (Fran is not as amused but trusts her brother... enough.. to follow his lead)
16. Case proceeds mostly as normal, with Phoenix requiring Dee to re-do her testimony (maybe something deep within him still itches to put the true bad guy away, even if its harder than the accused)
17. I dont think Phonix would deliver the unnecessary feelings line, although there definetely is that moment in the lobby where hes like “hm. maybe you arent a bad person, but that doesnt mean i have to like you.”
18. and now, now now now, we finally get to the part where i somehow managed to put the most thought into. (for context it is nearly 2 am when i am writing this)
19. sleep schedule aside, you couldnt have thought i would made this WITHOUT some good angst, so here we go. case four is similarly structured to the original, but with an extra side of Phoenix angst.
20. Miles wakes up to Franzy shaking him. She points to the television. the news is on, but the voices are drowned out by a distant ringing as he stares at the image on the screen.
Famed Prosecutor Phoenix Wright Arrested For Murder
21. it just doesnt make sense. So he gets out of bed and into the closest clothes he can find and out the door with his sister in tow. He sits in the cold detention room, thinking about the other side of the glass.
22. Phoenix Wright looks dull. He asks what they want. Miles says he wants an explanation. Wright sneers and asks why. For some reason, that pisses Miles off. He slams his badge to the glass and Wright looks surprised.
“Do you know what this is? It’s my attorneys badge.”
“the badge doesnt mean youre a good lawyer.”
“Well Mr Wright, its 2-0, so i dont think you have any right to say that.” Miles glares at him and Wright sits back in his seat. He watches Miles for a long time.
“If im going to defend you, you need to tell me what happened.“ Wrights eyebrows shoot up and Franziska squawks at his side
“What do you mean defend him!”
“What she said.”
Miles narrows his eyes at Wright as he ponders to himself the answer. Why is he doing it? the answer comes to him.
“Because i dont believe you did it.”
For all his snark, Miles cant bring himself to believe that the man in front of him would kill someone. Theres something about him, either in his eyes or the way he carries himself that makes the idea itself preposterous. Wright looks at him for a long time after he says it.
“Very well.”
21. Miles doesnt seem him until court, but at least he testifies. The next person up, a red head by the name of Melissa Foster, gives a testimony that seems airtight.
22. that is, until he looks over at Phoenix, who is pale as he looks at the woman on the witness stand. Phoenix catches his eye, and very carefully, very slowly, mouths one name.
Dahlia Hawthorne
23. (I really wish i could continue with the more narrative parts of this but im honestly running out of steam and ill get to the point lol. Maybe ill finish it later.)
24. Terry Fawles dies on the stand. Diego Armando falls into a coma. Dahlia Hawthorne walks free. Even after what happened to Diego, Phoenix is convinced he can do better. He sets up a meeting with Dahlia.
25. Doug shows up, trying to persuade him away from it, saying he overheard Dahlia’s plan to kill Phoenix when she arrives. Phoenix is cocky, and the pair fight. Doug gets shoved into the powerline. Phoenix, thinking him dead, panics and runs.
26. Dahlia, having overheard, goes back and finishes him off, drops some poison into his mouth perhaps. With an accidental death with a cause so obvious, nobody bothers to run blood tests (until Miles)
27. Its years later, and Phoenix gets a note that tells him they know what really happened to Doug. Phoenix arrives to a meeting place to find a dead body. He picks up the vial of poison almost absently.
28. After all, Dahlia had gotten rid of Diego and Mia was dead. Now all she had to do was get rid of Phoenix
29. It plays out similarly to case four, with Phoenix being absolved of the first murder, then confessing to the old one. Miles has gone through the work to save his life once, that he cant not do it again.
30. but happy endings (ish) for all, with Phoenix being freed, Dahlia imprisoned and Miles having a better understanding of both him and Phoenix.
31. maybe more happens but we’re at bullet point 31 so its time to stop for now lmao. uh but yeah! roleswap au..... brainrot really.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recently I've been looking at concept art for several aa characters and I discovered the Simon Blackquill page which is just BATSHIT and I love it I've taken a few concept Simons and renamed them as well just because I love them so much
Tumblr media
Of all the concept art this is the only one that is colored which leads me to believe that this guy was a finalist for who would finally become Simon Blackquill. I've renamed him to Jack Greenapple, Jack as a reference to the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill and Greenapple based on his green hair and the apple he holds.
Tumblr media
This one I'm very sure wasn't even a convict, he looks like a regular dude. He does even resemble some of Phoenix's very early concept art, and so I've decided to name him Wilton, as Wilton was a name considered for Phoenix early on in the development of the localization. Wilton here doesn't get a last name because he's special.
Tumblr media
Then we have this guy. I'm sure his outfit was meant to more tie into his samurai motif but he just makes me think of a Fey so his name is Mac Fey. Mac can be short for McDonald's since Maya like the borger or maybe it's short for Macklemore who knows.
Tumblr media
And my favorite.... This Dahlia/Iris Hawthorne looking bitch. He can be the secret triplet to Dahlia and Iris (which once again connects him to the Feys) and thus his name is Cypress Hawthorne. He probably went to jail for real murder unlike Simon who actually did nothing wrong.
Anyway thank u for coming to my Ted Talk and also I'm sorry for showing you all Jack Greenapple.

Whumptober 2020 - Day 22
A fic depicting a missing scene from AA3. By reading the characters below, you can probably guess which one.
@whumptober2020
Prompt: Poisoned Fandom: Ace Attorney Character(s): Diego Armando, Dahlia Hawthorne Words: 881 tw: poison
Spoilers for Ace Attorney: Trials And Tribulations!
“Your coffee, sir.”
Diego sniffed the air as the barista placed his beverage onto the counter. It smelled… delightful. An actual decent cup of coffee that he hadn’t had to make himself. Miracles do happen!
He stuffed a good few bills into the tip jar and thanked the awestruck barista as he sauntered toward an empty table. If someone made him a good cup of coffee, he sure as hell was gonna reward them.
There was a two-seater table free in the middle of the courthouse cafeteria. Someone else might’ve been annoyed that there would be little privacy for such a sensitive confrontation, Diego felt more secure. More people meant more witnesses when things inevitably got heated, seeing as he was meeting a murderer. And Diego had no doubt that Dahlia Hawthorne was a murderer.
He and Mia had worked non-stop compiling evidence and assembling data, and Miss Hawthorne was always at the center of it all. And then she had asked to meet. Mia had wanted to be the one doing the confronting, but Diego had shot her down immediately and offered to go instead. Mia Fey, though undeniably smart and determined, was still new to the job. Plus, he’d been told he could be quite intimidating at times.
Well, he was a lawyer. Being intimidating was part of the job.
He didn’t have to wait long before Dahlia emerged in all her deceptive-prettiness. She gracefully sat opposite him and smiled that sickly sweet smile he’d come to know and hate.
“Good morning, Mr Armando.” She greeted in mock-shyness. “What is it I can help you with?”
Diego’s fingers tightened their grip on his coffee cup. He stared into the mysterious blackness and refused to meet her hypnotising gaze.
“Oh, I think we both know that, Miss Hawthorne.” He answered through gritted teeth, though his voice was casual. “So I’m giving you a chance to confess and be done with it. Otherwise all hell will break loose, and it won’t be in your favor.”
Dahlia said nothing. Diego looked up to try and find an explanation for the silence, but as soon as he looked at her she tilted her head and smiled.
“I’m afraid I don’t know what you mean, Mr Armando. I just wanted to chat.”
“Cut the crap!” Diego snarled, slamming his mug onto the table. The cafeteria fell silent for a few moments before resuming its din. “We’re onto you, we know what you did, and we’re this close-” he pinched for emphasis- “to exposing you once and for all. So I’ll ask you again. Do you want to confess now and get a lighter sentence? Or wait and see what we do to you?”
Dahlia’s evilly innocent smile flickered for a split-second. Diego felt triumphant.
“Because you will be getting a sentence either way,” he continued, “I’ll make sure of that.”
As he examined her face for any microscopic sign of weakness or fear, Dahlia began to fidget with her hands. She opened her purse and began to peruse through it. Diego took that opportunity to take a long sip of his coffee, and damn was it good. He would definitely get a refill after this conversation. And maybe even get that barista’s name, so he could ask for them whenever he came down to the cafeteria again.
All of a sudden, Dahlia’s purse fell from the table and onto the floor near Diego’s feet. She smiled non-apologetically.
“Whoops. Butterfingers.”
He cursed quietly as he bent down to pick up her belongings, grumbling as he did so. That little lady was up to something, and he needed to do something soon before she struck out again.
Practically throwing her purse back onto the table, he sat up straight again. “There.”
“Why thank you, Mr Armando.”
Usually, Diego prided himself in being smothered with compliments. It was a part of the life of Diego Armando. But something about the way the words came out of Dahlia’s mouth made them feel like poison.
He took another sip of coffee.
“Listen you b-”
Dahlia began to giggle. Diego frowned. What was so funny? What was she up to?
His throat suddenly felt extremely dry. Nothing a bit of coffee couldn’t handle, so he took another sip.
“Excuse me, Mr Armando. I’m just going to the bathroom. I’ll be back soon.”
Diego tried to protest against her leaving but found he was unable to speak. If anything, the coffee had made that feeling worse, as it was now spreading all the way down into his lungs and stomach. Instead of talking, he coughed in an attempt to clear his throat.
And then he couldn’t stop coughing.
The coughs became more and more violent, and with it his insides felt like they were on fire. His skin was burning. His vision faded until he could see nothing but black. But he continued to cough. He tried to call for help but found it was impossible. At some point he’d fallen off his chair and could feel himself writhing around on the freezing cold floor. Distant voices were saying something, but he couldn’t even begin to understand them.
The last thing he remembered was some sort of thick liquid oozing out of his mouth, before the world fell silent around him.

the valley | a tmr short | word count: 2k
named for the oh hellos song! which has huge TMR vibes to me. i mean, sure, it’s a story about fae and a blood-drinking forest, but these kids deserve their beach episode.
you can find out more about TMR here. but for a refresher: the characters present here are winter auklet, farm-girl-turned-adventurer; her trusty dog skip, who follows her around like an NPC; viridi doveswing, a mysterious convalescent who can’t physically lie; patch gosling, the castle court jester, who has two hands (one for viridi and one for rowan); and rowan hawthorne, the blacksmith’s apprentice, who does not often talk or fear.
without further ado i bring to you: tmr beach episode.
“You’re going to want to take your boots off,” was the first thing Rowan said, when she met the others just outside the castle walls. He didn’t elaborate, and Winter didn’t get the chance to ask, because a moment later he was bounding off toward the north end of the island.
Winter looked, rather helplessly, at Patch and Viridi. “I only have one pair of boots.”
“You won’t lose them,” Patch said hurriedly, reaching down to pat Skip on the head. “Just leave them here, no one will take them - he’s right, we’re going to be swimming -” and they scampered after him.
Winter blinked.
She looked at Viridi, who raised his eyebrows, as if to say, Good God. Then, defeated, he exhaled and started off at a more stately pace.
Winter, staring at her feet, didn’t move until Skip twined through her legs and raced after him. Then she yelped and shucked her boots off, hopping on one leg as she peeled off her stockings, and shouted, “Wait for me, Skip!”
The summer sun burned hot in the dove kingdom. It shone off the lake, glittering blue; it lit up each waving blade of grass in the fields behind the castle. Not that there were many fields - the castle walls extended almost to the edge of the island. Their path traced the shoreline north, to the part of the island that pointed further out into the lake and not to the mainland city; the shore grew steeper and steeper until it sloped up into rocky cliff walls, overhung with vivid overgrowth.
Rowan had infuriatingly long legs. Winter caught up with Viridi first, which was to be expected but was still unfortunate, because then she felt obligated to keep his pace, and Viridi, for all he’d healed since his accident, was slow. Both of them were sweating by the time they reached the others - Patch, bent over puffing; Skip, circling excitedly around their legs; and Rowan, fording up the slope into the bushes.
“It’s steep,” Patch wheezed, straightening up and smoothing down their tunic. “Watch out for the branches.”
It was, in fact, steep. More of a climb than a walk, really; there was a faint suggestion of a path, where the undergrowth was more worn down, but really they were scrambling up over rocks and under bushes, dirt wedging itself under Winter’s fingernails, rocks gritty beneath her spread-wide toes, the scents of earth and leaves and sticky sweat hanging close around her body.
It didn’t particularly help to have Skip scrabbling up along with them, crawling through Winter’s legs and lapping at her fingers. But she wasn’t very well going to send him back.
Rowan took the head, Patch right behind him, and Winter followed at their heels, excitement already singing in her chest. She was slightly ashamed that it took hearing Patch call back, “Vee, how’re you doing back there?” to recall their fourth’s disadvantage.
When she turned around, Viridi was a ways behind her, further down the slope, past a particularly steep bit of ground. His good arm was braced against the side of the boulder the others had climbed over; his left arm was held tightly to his chest, as always.
Winter scrambled back to meet him. She was close enough to see him mumble a foul word under his breath before he called back, “I’m managing!”
Then he looked up to see her inches away and startled back.
“Here,” Winter said, offering her arm. “Put both your hands - right. And now if you put your foot there -”
When he gripped her arm, she could feel the raised edges of the scars on his palms. The whole affair seemed harder on his end; she’d borne the weight of sheep at home that were heavier. When he scrambled up beside her, Viridi dropped his hands from her arm - though he didn’t drop his gaze from hers - and exhaled heavily.
Winter tilted her head, scanning him. She wasn’t sure what, exactly, she was scanning for, but she reasoned that if he was about to collapse she should be able to notice that. “Are you all right?”
“I’m f…” He wobbled over the fine for a moment, lips puffing out, then settled on, “I’m here, aren’t I?”
“If you’re tired -”
“I’m always tired,” Viridi said sourly. Making a face: “Dahlia says I ought to push myself.”
Winter grinned at him. She offered her arm again and nodded after Patch. “Well, in that case, I think Patch and Rowan are halfway to the raven kingdom by now.”
It wasn’t a far climb, though Viridi leaned on her most of the way. They caught up with the others at the top of the cliff - including Skip, who had once more wandered ahead. “Traitor,” Winter told him, ruffling his ears, before she rose to look around.
The island dipped here, pinching inward like the bread Winter’s mother used to fold - a little cove cut into the side of the cliffs. They stood atop a lip of rock overhanging the water, nothing but open space in front of them.
Rowan smirked at Patch. “I’m going first.”
Patch stuck their tongue out. “Oh, by all means.”
Winter tipped her head back to the sky, so blue it almost hurt her eyes. The wind ruffled her hair. The far edges of the lake were hemmed in by hills dappled with trees, brilliantly green. The forest, technically - but here, in the sun, dirt-smeared and breeze-tousled, she felt incredibly far from it. The forest couldn’t touch her here. Not with all of them here together, in the open; not with the sky singing in her heart.
“What now?” she asked.
Patch grinned lopsidedly, showing their dimples. “We jump!”
“Jump,” Viridi repeated, eyes flaring wide.
“There’s a path back up from the water! You can’t see it from here, but we’ve done this a thousand times.” They pressed a hand to their heart. “Jester’s honor.”
“You have to jump out far,” Rowan said, nodding toward the edge. “To clear the rocks.”
“Rocks,” Viridi echoed.
Winter peered over the precipice, toes curled over the stone. There were, in fact, rocks just beneath the surface of the water, large and formidable. The wind tossed the water around, exposing a peak here, a jagged edge there.
They weren’t too high up. She’d jumped from the loft to the barn floor, at home, and it was about the same distance. And all right, maybe she’d broken her ankle in the barn, but she had been landing on a hard stone floor and not plunging into a lake, and so it was different, she was pretty sure.
Winter clung to the rocks and grinned.
She barely had time to draw back before Rowan flashed past her. He whooped as he leaped; a moment later he splashed down into the lake and bobbed back up, a small red-haired shape down below, spitting out brine.
Looking up, he raised one arm out of the water, pumping his fist, and whooped again.
Winter returned the motion from above, huge-eyed. “Hurrah!”
“Careful, Winter,” Patch said gently. Winter glanced back to Patch and Viridi - the former poised for a running leap, the latter looking distinctly queasy.
She shifted to make space. A moment later Patch ran past, one hand held up to plug their nose, and jumped. Their splash was bigger; Rowan caught most of it in the face, and his colorful string of curses was audible even from up above.
Skip pressed his wet nose into Winter’s hand, panting. She ruffled his ears. “Oh, are you going to go follow them now, too? You want to jump off the cliff with your new best friends? I thought I was your b-”
Skip licked her face. Winter squeaked, laughing, and almost fell backwards off the cliff.
She glanced up to see Viridi standing beside her, neck arched so he could squint over the edge. “Our turn, Viridi?”
“Mm,” Viridi said, stepping back.
“Come on.” Winter removed Skip’s paw from her face. Skip replaced it; Winter removed it again. “It’ll be fun.”
“I don’t swim.”
“Well, you made it all the way out here; you might as well.”
Viridi squeezed his eyes shut for a moment.
“No,” he said, exhaling, “I mean I don’t know how.”
Winter shoved Skip off her lap and stared at Viridi.
“What?” she said.
Viridi gave her a sullen look. He enunciated slowly enough that it offended her a little: “I never learned how to -”
“I heard you, I just…” Winter shook her head. Skip shook his head, too, as if he were agreeing, though it may have been because his ear was inside-out. Winter flipped it for him. “How?” She had grown up swimming almost every day in the summers - the lake behind her house was much smaller, of course, but when she closed her eyes and dove toward the bottom she could pretend that she was in the ocean, seaweed tangling in her fingers, salt catching in her hair. She’d never seen the ocean. But she’d read storybooks. She’d dreamed about it.
Viridi was once again engaging in uncomfortably direct eye contact. This time made all the more uncomfortable by his scowl. “I just… never learned. I mean, I… my… we…” He shrugged jerkily. “I didn’t do that.”
Winter tossed a look over the edge of the cliff. Patch and Rowan had swum out a little ways to engage in some sort of mid-lake wrestling. As she watched, Patch splashed Rowan directly in the face, wriggled out of his grasp, and called up, “Come on! I promise it’s fine!”
She very much wanted to jump. In fact she itched with it. She desired nothing more than to run at the precipice and fling herself out into open space as quickly and as enthusiastically as possible.
Still. She felt some degree of responsibility for Viridi.
It wasn’t that hard to learn to swim, was it? Her parents had taught her when she was tiny. If a tiny person could do it, it probably wasn’t too bad. “You can do it,” she said encouragingly. “You just sort of…” She mimicked Skip’s paddle with her hands.
Viridi’s squint got narrower.
“Ah,” he said. “I just sort of.” He exaggerated the motion back at her with his good arm.
Winter huffed, somewhere between impatient and sheepish. His arm… did present a complication. “Oh, don’t be like that, I’m trying to help you - I’ll be right there, and so will Patch and Rowan, it’s not so far down…”
His silence was the most unnerving possible response. Winter looked up to see him eyeing the edge, looking more than a little ill. Without tearing his eyes away, he reached sideways for Skip, patting the air futilely until the dog trotted over to meet his hand.
“Are you scared?”
She watched his mouth form the no; she heard the puff of his futile exhale.
“Come on.” Winter kept her voice low and gentle as she got to her feet. “It’s okay. It’s not so far down. Patch did it and they’re shorter than you -”
“Patch is shorter than everyone,” Viridi snapped, reaching up to press at the hollow of his throat.
“Exactly!” When he didn’t move away, Winter reached for his good hand - slowly, carefully, keeping her movements in his field of vision, the way her parents had taught her to approach skittish animals back home.
His palms were rough, ridged with the lines of his scars. He intertwined his fingers with hers immediately.
Winter smiled at him, feeling sun-warmth unfurl in her chest. “I’ll be right here,” she promised. “And Skip, you stay up here, all right?”
“You can exchange him for me if you’d rather,” Viridi muttered. Winter shushed him.
They approached the edge together. Viridi’s grip on her hand kept getting tighter. Winter squeezed back, smiling comfortingly at him. “On three we’ll run up and jump, okay?”
Viridi nodded, eyes locked on the cliff’s edge, throat bobbing.
“All right,” Winter said, bending her knees. Already her grin was spreading. “Three -”
“You can’t - you can’t start with three,” Viridi objected, yanking on her hand. “You said we go on three. You have to start with one.”
Winter rolled her eyes. “Fine,” she said. “One…” She squinted sideways at him, watching for any possible escape attempts. “Three!”
Viridi’s yelp was lost in Winter’s laughter as she pulled him forward. One, two, three steps -
They clutched each other’s hands and jumped.

Heavy/Alternative Music Genres Tier List Based Purely on How Much I Like Them
Tumblr media
Taken from a YouTube video I saw today from my favorite channel, The Punk Rock MBA by Finn Mckenty - there was a link to this in the description to make your own. Full explanation of why I put what where under the cut.
It was a little bit of a challenge to place these because I like almost all of these genres to some extent. In order to decide how much I like them relatively, I had to consider factors like how frequently I actually listen to them, how many different bands in a genre I listen to/how much I really know about it, and how much of an impact it’s had on me personally. Also, I have an idea from watching this and every other video on his channel what bands Mckenty means when he talks about a certain genre, so I tried to go off that more than my personal definition since he made the chart.  S TIER: - Best Music I’ve Ever Heard
Ska - I fucking love ska and listen to it most days, plain and simple.
Deathcore - same goes, really. Many of my favorite metal bands are actually deathcore.
Skate punk - possibly my favorite iteration of punk music. This is bands like NOFX, Lagwagon, and Pennywise. Can get as gnarly as RKL and as poppy as No Use For a Name.
Melo Death - I think most of my favorite metal bands that aren’t deathcore are melodic death metal. It’s a pretty broad genre if you ask me but includes The Back Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, At The Gates, and Children of Bodom.  A Tier: More of My Favorites
Djent - if you’re not familiar with the term, djent is an onomatopoeia that refers to the sound of a low power chord on a guitar. Meshuggah more or less pioneered the sound, but a lot of newer deathcore at least has a djent influence.
Metalcore 1.0 - this is bands that sound like Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying. I listened to a lot of this in my late teens and early 20s.
Death Metal - gotta love it. I just wish some of the older bands had better recording quality.
Mall Screamo - so when Mckenty says “mall screamo” he includes mall emo in that; it includes Fall Out Boy, MCR, and the Used as well as, I’m assuming, bands like Senses Fail, Aiden, or Hawthorne Heights. I have fond memories of lots of this stuff and have branched out more into both the more pop punk and post hardcore flavors of it recently.
B Tier: I Like It
Easycore: The first time I heard an easycore song was when I heard Playing Dead by Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! on a Spotify playlist. It was such an aggressive mashup of metalcore and pop punk that I was immediately obsessed. Easycore is awesome but it is still pretty new to me.
Real Punk - in this context this means anything from The Sex Pistols to The Casualties to GBH. This sort of thing can be kind of hit or miss for me; I love the Casualties and Blanks 77 and bands that do this sound well, like The Exploited, do it really well. However, they have a lot of copycats, and the bands that aren’t so memorable (and even some that punk purists stand by) have a sound that I like but that all sounds exactly the same. Ultimately, a lot of the stuff that got put in this category often lacks the creativity and fun that my favorite punk music has.
Thrash Metal - I do really love Slayer, and I was always a fan of Kreator and Sodom. .  Hardcore - Hardcore can be such a broad term, but to me it does have a pretty specific sound though, like The Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, or Terror, though it can also include older bands like Minor Threat and bands like H20. I think hardcore punk to me is something older and slightly different that influenced both hardcore and other kinds of American punk, but maybe I’m just being picky and not paying as much attention to some bands’ later discography.
C Tier: I Dabble in It
Nu Metal - I love Slipknot and I like Korn (and I guess Linkin Park are considered Nu Metal) but I don’t really listen to any other Nu Metal bands. I like what I’ve heard but haven’t dug too deep into the genre. Maybe it’s time to go find a Spotify playlist?
Butt Rock - butt rock is Nothin’ But Rock: that sort of post-grunge radio rock that was popular in the 2000s. I think bands like Nickleback, Creed, Staind, and Puddle of Mudd exemplify this sound, but it also includes bands like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace, and maybe even Disturbed, which I like. I remember a bunch of these kind of songs fondly, ngl. Crab Core - this refers to bands that played their instruments while standing in a crab like position. This is like the 2010s metalcore: Attack Attack!, I See Stars, Asking Alexandria, We Came as Romans, etc. I never got super into most of this stuff except for a few songs here and there.
Grunge - I do really like Nirvana and I like most songs I’ve heard by Pearl Jam, Alice and Chains, and Soundgarden, but I can’t say this is a genre that’s had a big influence on me or that I’ve cared to dive deep into, which is why I decided not to rate it higher. Like, I listen to it a little bit but it’s not my favorite sound ever.
TRL-Core Pop Punk - this is what I think of when I think of when I think pop punk as opposed to 90s bands that were considered pop punk at the time but are just punk now. It’s bands that were on TRL like Blink 182 and New Found Glory. I was just a little too young for this at its peak, and while I’m just starting to develop a taste for it now it’s always been a little too poppy for my tastes.
D Tier: I Can Take It or Leave It
Black Metal - believe it or not, this was one of the first metal genres I listened to and enjoyed, but over time it just got really overshadowed. A lot of these D and E tier genres have 1 band that I really like, and so I do love Watain but never found another black metal band that could match them for me. Many of their albums have way better production than what the genre is known for though, and in general I tend to like bands with a black metal influence more than I like black metal itself. Neo Thrash - both this and New School Old School Death Metal are bands that sound just like the old stuff but were started only a few years ago. The thing is, I like these but haven’t delved much into them because there’s just so many metal bands between that and the old stuff that I tend to only spend time on whatever strikes me as unique or exceptional.
Nu School OSDM - same as Neo Thrash.
E Tier: I Don’t Really Care For It (But I Won’t Mind If Someone Else Puts It On)
Power Metal - I’ve tried to get into power metal but I just can’t. It’s not my thing.
Grindcore - I really like Insect Warfare but other than that, grindcore is another genre that just strikes me as kind of boring and repetitive on the whole.
F Tier: I Hate It
Midwest Emo - I’d heard the term before, didn’t know what it sounded like, looked it up, and I hate it.
Emo Rap - this is a very new type of rap that sometimes has some guitar sounds and has vocal parts that sound like they could have come out of a pop punk song. It’s cool stuff musically but I just don’t like the way it sounds.

The Ultimate Wingmen
Summary: Pearls and Maya find a sketchbook that reveals a defense attorney’s secret crush on a certain prosecutor. What happens when these girls decided to become his best wingman? What ridiculous acts will these girls get into to help their friend Phoenix confess his love?
Pearls ran towards Maya carrying a blue book with a label on top that said Wright’s Sketchbook “Mystic Maya! Mystic Maya! What is a sketchbook?”
Maya paused a Steel Samurai episode on the television and explained to Pearls “Well it’s kind of in the name, it’s just a book full of sketches or I guess mini drawings if you want to call them that.”
Pearls flipped through the pages of the blue book as she asked “Umm, are most of the drawings supposed to contain drawings of the same person?”
Maya tilted her head; and thought that’s strange, who is this person that’s worth filling most of a sketchbook with? Maya hopped up from her seat and strode over to Pearls so they could look inside the sketchbook together. It was full of pictures of the friends they encountered through their murder cases like Detective Gumshoe, Franziska Von Karma, Larry Butz, and Mr. Godot, but the person that reoccurred the most throughout the book was Miles Edgeworth.
They continued to flip through the pages; Pearls wasn’t lying when she said there were a lot of pictures of the same person here. Every couple pages they would find a new picture of Edgeworth sometimes it would be drawn as a headshot, other times it’d be drawn as a full body pic, but occasionally there was full blown illustrations dedicated to him. Each picture was drawn with great care and Phoenix seemed to pay attention to the even smallest details, but what was so special about Edgeworth of all people that caused Phoenix to draw him this much?
Maya mumbled out loud “What could cause someone to be passionate about drawing a specific person?”
Pearls thought about it for a minute and responded “I think he really likes Mr. Edgeworth, they are friends aren’t they?”
Maya pondered that statement for a moment, while yes it was true they were friends, a lot of people were friends with Phoenix, so why was Edgeworth different? She thought about it for a few more seconds and remembered about what Pearl said and how Phoenix seems to really like Edgeworth.
And then a realization hit her and she exclaimed, “Nick likes Edgeworth!”
Pearls gave a puzzled look at Maya’s outburst and replied “Of course he does, their friends after all!”
Maya shook her head “No, Nick likes Edgeworth romantically! That is the only possible way to explain why he’s so fascinated with drawing him.”
A little gasp escaped Pearls at this new development “But Mystic Maya I thought you liked Nick romantically! Aren’t you upset your feelings are unrequited?”
How did she learn the word unrequited? That’s a big word for someone her age. Has Pearls been reading romance novels or fanfiction I’m unaware of?  Maya wondered.
Maya responded “Nah, I never liked Nick that way. I rather go out with a burger than go out with Nick.”
A giggle escaped Pearls at Maya’s response.
Maya stated “But now we have an important job to do.”
              Pearls asked “What is it?”
Maya shouted “Obviously to help Nick and Edgeworth get together!”
……………
Later, Maya kicked down the door and ran inside the Wright & Co Law Offices with Pearls following swiftly behind her and yelled “NICK! WE KNOW ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS FOR A CERTAIN PROSECUTOR!”
Pearls shouted “Mr. Nick, where are you? We want to talk to you!”
They saw Phoenix nowhere in sight. So there was only one thing to do! It was time for Maya and Pearls to investigate to find the missing Nick!
Maya pointed to the other room “You look that way and I’ll go look in his main office okay?”
Pearls nodded her head up and down and then scurried off into the room. Maya began to search his office and immediately spotted a plant. If anyone knew who had been in this room it was definitely Charley.
Maya began to interrogate the witness, “Did you see him Charley? Did you see Nick in this room?”
              Charley remained silent.
She let out an annoyed sigh, “The silent treatment? That’s so typical of you Charley,” Maya cracked her knuckles,” Fine, I didn’t want to have to do this Charley, but you leave me no choice!”
Maya grabbed the sides of the plant pot and shook it back and forth spilling dirt out onto the floor, and further interrogated the plant “Where is Nick hiding Charley? I know you know where he is!”
Charley suffered through the harsh interrogation and remained silent, since he was literally just a defenseless plant and couldn’t do anything else.
Phoenix asked “Did you honestly believe a plant was going to tell you were I was at? You’re acting stranger than usually today.”
Maya dropped the plant, spilling more dirt out in the process, then spun around and found Phoenix actually sitting at his desk for once. The loud thump of the plant plot hitting the floor alerted Pearls and she ran into the room to make sure Maya was okay.
Pearls spotted Phoenix and said “Mr. Nick! We have something important we want to talk to you about!”
A pit in Phoenix’s stomach began to form as he saw them both wearing a determined look on their face. When they teamed up like this there was no way for him to escape whatever conversation they wanted to have.
Phoenix asked “What do you want to talk about?”
Maya leaned against Phoenix’s desk and said “Well your crush of course!”
Phoenix felt his cheeks slightly warm up “C-Crush? I don’t have a crush.”
And at that moment several psyche-locks appeared around him clearly contradicting his statement.
Pearls brought out a Magmata “Good thing I brought this. I thought something like this might happen.”
Pearls chucked the Magmata at Phoenix and yelled “Take that!”
As the Magmata collided with Phoenix’s chest he let out a loud “OOOW!”
And it was time for them to break the psyche-locks! The first question was who was Phoenix’s supposed crush they were referring to? This was simple enough for them to answer; all they had to do was present Edgeworth’s profile to him. The girls caught a glimpse of Phoenix’s face tinted a light red color, before he asked for evidence to back up this claim. Then Maya pulled out Wright’s Sketchbook revealing all of his drawings of Edgeworth inside and she began to smack a page of a book similar to how Phoenix would smack a sheet a paper during a trial proving a contradiction in a witness’s testimony.
Maya and Pearls didn’t know it was possible for a human to turn as bright red as Phoenix was now. He looked like a bright big tomato, but there was still one lock on him and they had one final question they had to solve for him.
Who or what was preventing him from asking out Edgeworth?
It seemed like a simple answer why it is probably the fear of ruining the friendship of course, but they tried that and it failed. The lock still remained on him, so it had to be some deeper more personal reason for hiding his feelings for Edgeworth along with the fear of ruining a friendship.
Maybe it had to do with something with a past relationship, past relationships could negatively affect people in future ones, they had seen something similar like that happen on a TV show once. But had either Maya or Pearls seen him in his last relationship? In all the time they worked with Phoenix had they even seen him in a relationship in general?
Maya whispered to Pearl “I wish we could phone a friend like on those game shows, when we didn’t know the answer to a question.”
Pearls rubbed the bottom of her chin as she thought before she excitedly whispered to Maya “We can call someone!”
Before Maya could ask what she met by that the next moment she saw, her sister, Mia standing before her dressed like Pearls. Maya thought that’s what Pearls meant! She called Mia for help!
Mia stated “I think I can handle this question from here Maya.”
Mia faced Phoenix and whipped out Dahlia Hawthorne’s profile.
She stated “If I remember correctly the last girl you dated was Dahlia Hawthorne wasn’t it? That woman who hated you and planned to murder you, but you never saw her true nature until much later since you were naïve and blinded by young love. Isn’t that correct? Dahlia traumatized you after that incident didn’t she? That’s why you’ve haven’t dated since that incident because you’re so scared that you will be hurt more.”
The pit in Phoenix’s stomach grew; since Mia had been his mentor for so long she could read him like a book. He will admit he’s scared. He’s terrified He’s afraid of getting attached in the end and getting hurt even worse. That’s the real reason why he’s avoided dating for so long because he’s terrified about what would happen.
He felt a hand on his shoulder and another hand wiping away tears from his eyes.
Phoenix looked up into his mentor’s eyes and listened to her words “Don’t let this event prevent you from getting the things you want. Learn from it and don’t let your past hold you back it’s the only way you’ll move forward in the world. It’ll take time for you to get over that event, but you’re surrounded by friends who care for you Phoenix, don’t ever forget that.”
Through his tears Phoenix managed to say “T-Thank you Mia.”
A small smile spread across Mia’s face and she turned to her sister “I believe my job is done here. I think it is Pearl and your turn now to help take care of him Maya.”
Maya hugged Mia “We will, and Mia?”
              “Yes?”
              “I really miss you.”
Mia planted a kiss on top of Maya’s forehead “I miss you too.”
Once their hug had ended Mia left and Pearls was back in her place. Tears stained Phoenix’s face and the girls rushed over to comfort him. Maya and Pearls that day made a vow to Nick to always be his best friends and be by his side when he needed comfort. And when Phoenix was ready they would one day help him court a certain Prosecutor.
……………
Maya ran ahead and pointed to a small café “Here it is Nick! This is where you will be meeting Edgeworth today!”
The café was stuck in between a sparkling boutique that displayed expensive looking clothes in their windows and a flower shop decorated with an assortment of different colored flowers in the front of it. The café itself however had a chalkboard stand outside displaying their special offers and huge windows covered most of the front of the café to allow any passersby to glance inside the establishment. It was a relatively calm time to visit the café since there was only a couple customers in the restaurant. There were two friends chatting at a table, a lady quickly typing away something at her computer and a man sipping his drink and staring out the window at and observing the people walking along the streets.
Phoenix responded “Seems like a nice place. How’d you guys convince Edgeworth to meet me here anyway?”
Pearls appeared next to Phoenix and replied “Mr. Nick, we can’t reveal that information!”
A perplexed looked appeared on his face “Why?”
Maya posed dramatically next to Pearls and stated “It is part of are wingman duty to keep our techniques secret!”
Secret techniques? What exactly are these two girls planning for me? Phoenix pondered before he was broken from his thoughts at the sound of a new voice.
              “How are you doing pal?”
Pal? Why did that word seem familiar?
Phoenix glanced at the owner of the voice “Detective Gumshoe? What are you doing here?”
Gumshoe replied “Maya and Pearls asked me to contact Edgeworth for your,” Gumshoe awkwardly rubbed the back of his head,” umm to confess your feelings correct?”
Phoenix’s face was on fire from how embarrassed he was “You told him?!”
Pearls responded “Of course so Mr. Nick! He needed to know why it was so urgent for you to meet with him.”
Phoenix covered his burning face with his hand; this situation seemed to get more embarrassing as it went on.
Gumshoe patted Phoenix’s back “Don’t worry Pal I didn’t tell Edgeworth about your crush on him. I told him you two have important business to discuss. It’s your responsibility to admit your feelings for him.”
Pearls stated “I believe if anyone can do it, Mr. Nick can do it!”
A small smile crept onto Phoenix’s face at Pearl’s faith in him “Thanks Pearls.”
Gumshoe looked in the other direction “Looks like Edgeworth has finally shown up.”
They all turned their attention to a silver haired man adorning his signature magenta jacket with the rest of his attire. He got out of his car and was now walking towards the café to meet up with Phoenix.
Maya said “Nick I think this is your cue to go chase after a certain prosecutor,” before she gave him a wink and pushed him in the direction of the one and only Miles Edgeworth.
…………………….
Edgeworth and Phoenix sat at a table near the entrance of the café sipping their drinks, when Edgeworth suddenly asked “So what important business did you want to discuss with me Wright?”
Phoenix’s heart began to beat a little faster, he could do this. He just has to confess his feelings for a man he likes, why would that be so hard?
He replied “Actually, it’s not about business at all,” a nervous smile appeared on Phoenix’s face as he rubbed the back of his head,” I wanted to talk to you about something personal.”
Edgeworth took a sip of his drink and raised an eyebrow in curiosity “What is it?”
Phoenix took a deep breath and responded “Well I wanted to confess to you that I really like-“
Then suddenly a loud “EDGEY-POO,” interrupted Phoenix’s confession.
Phoenix didn’t even need to look at the owner of the voice to know who it was all he could think right now was are you kidding me? This has to happen to me now?
Everyone in the café was alerted by the yell and turned to see Oldbag running towards Edgeworth at hyper speed.
Edgeworth’s eyes flew open and yelled “Not you again!”
Before Edgeworth could flee the scene Oldbag wrapped an arm around his shoulder which prevented him from leaving his chair.
Oldbag leaned in closer to Edgeworth’s face and asked “Did you miss me Edgey-poo?”
The sudden proximity of their faces made Edgeworth extremely uncomfortable and he turned to face out the window behind him trying to silently plead to any passerby outside to help him from this insane women.
Edgeworth stated very clearly “No, not at all”
Meanwhile this conversation was happening Phoenix pondered what the heck just happened in the last five seconds to cause things to be like this? Is this a sign the world doesn’t want me to confess my feelings?
Phoenix broke from his thoughts when he felt someone poke his shoulder from the table behind him. He turned around and saw Detective Gumshoe, Maya and Pearls trying to disguise themselves with comically large newspapers while they watch the event unfold from behind him.
Pearls whispered” Mr. Nick! I read in a book once you need to fight your romantic rival for Mr. Edgeworth’s love or otherwise she’s going steal him away from you!”
Phoenix whispered back “I’m not going fight an old lady!”
Maya rolled up her sleeves “Then I’ll do it! In order to be the ultimate wingman for you Nick I’ll defeat her and get her away from Edgeworth.”
Pearl stated “I’ll help you too Mystic Maya! I want to help be the ultimate wingman too!”
Detective Gumshoe said “Count me in too.”
Phoenix frantically whispered “Wait Detective Gumshoe you’re the law! You shouldn’t condone this type of behavior.”
Gumshoe stated “Protecting Edgeworth is more important to me than following the law now!”
The three of them hop up from their seats at their table and they begin their attack on OldBag. Maya and Pearls ran over to the other table and used their combined strength to pry Oldbag off of him. The old lady scowled at the two girls at their rudeness; however she didn’t punish them and attempted to go back Edgeworth when she was met with Phoenix Wright standing in her way.
Oldbag ordered “Move out of the way whippersnapper! I was talking to him.”
Phoenix corrected her “Actually I was talking to him first, so if anything you interrupted my conversation. And second of all, he clearly seems uncomfortable by your presence and he obviously doesn’t want to talk to you. So I think it’d be better for everyone right now if you just left.”
Oldbag raised her left fist in the air “I’ll show you a thing or two, punk if you keep acting like that!”
Suddenly a click sound was heard near Oldbag’s right wrist and a handcuff was placed on it.
Detective Gumshoe grabbed Oldbag’s left hand and placed the other hand cuff on it “I’m sorry ma’am but your causing a scene in the café so I’m going have to remove you from the area.”
Oldbag tried to break free “I’m not causing a scene! If anything, this spiky haired attorney is the one causing the scene!”
Gumshoe dragged Oldbag out of the café and replied “No, he was just sticking up for someone he cares about.”
Edgeworth got up from his seat and walked over to the three of them “Thank you for your help everyone. That lady was truly something.”
Maya responded “No problem Edgeworth we were happy to help, but I think Nick still has something important to confess to you.”
He can’t believe Maya still wants him to confess after they literally just saw Oldbag dragged out of this place in handcuffs, this wouldn’t be one of the most ordinary confession story, but none of them were normal people so if anything something like this should have been expected.
Phoenix finally confessed “I really like you Edgeworth.”
Edgeworth looked confused at this confession “You do know we’ve been friends for a long time Wright? I would hope you would like me as your friend by now.”
Pearls exclaimed “No Mr. Edgeworth! I made the same mistake as you too, but Mr. Nick means he likes you romantically!”
Edgeworth sits in silence for a moment and makes sure he heard it correctly and mumbles out “Romantically?”
Pearls replied “Yeah! Being romantic is like when two people trust each other a lot, go on dates together, and kiss each other a lot! I think that’s what Mr. Nick wants to do with you.”
Maya glanced over at the two blushing men not daring to meet the other in the eye “I think you broke them, Pearls.”
Pearls let out a little gasp and apologized “I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to!”
Maya replied “I think they’ll be fine Pearls, but our jobs as wingmen are done for today. I think Nick and Edgeworth can handle it themselves from here.”
The girls left the café and only an attorney and a prosecutor remained. It took them a while before either got the confidence the look each other in the eye. Phoenix seemed to cover his face with his hands in embarrassment and Edgeworth seemed to stare at everything besides Phoenix’s face.
It took a couple minutes before Edgeworth stated “I wouldn’t be opposed to going out with you.”
Phoenix quickly removed his hands from his face to see if Edgeworth was serious, but he was still avoiding Phoenix’s gaze.
Phoenix tried to confirm what he heard “Are you telling the truth?”
Edgeworth turned to face him and replied “Of course I’m telling the truth, I wouldn’t lie to you.”
A huge smile formed on Phoenix’s face and he instinctively wrapped Edgeworth in a hug. He could feel Edgeworth stiffen up at first at the sudden contact, but then after a moment he slowly relaxed in the hug.
Edgeworth explained “I haven’t ever really done this before, so forgive me if I’m slow at this relationship thing.”
Phoenix replied “I haven’t done this in a long time actually, so I guess we can try to go at our own pace together, but I want to ask you something important. Is it okay if I kiss you right now?”
Edgeworth’s face tinted a light pink and he mumbled out “Yes.”
He pressed a light kiss against Edgeworth’s lips; and both the defense attorney and the prosecutor wore a face full of blush for the rest of the day because they were really happy and excited to see where this new blossoming relationship would take them.

Narumitsu Week Day 1 - Beginnings
AAAA this is probably the first time I've formally managed to attempt participating in this stuff, mostly because I'm still a tiny bit inexperienced with writing
My theming of Day 1's prompt will be around Phoenix's letters to Edgeworth, spanning from December 2001 (immediately following DL-6 incident) to roughly August 2016 (including covering the day of The First Turnabout).
I'm gonna warn that there'll be spoilers for Gyakuten Kenji 2/Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth: Prosecutor's Path, Ace Attorney (the original), and Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, as well as the Ace Attorney anime episodes Turnabout Promise and Sound the Turnabout Melody. Also, mentions of death, some minor violence and the usual crap discussed in the Ace Attorney series applies here, so read at your own risk.
December 29th, 2001
Dear Miles, I dunno what happened yesterday.. The power went out and Mom and I had to eat dinner with candles since the power stayed off all night. Mom said it was a 'quake, a really bad one. I went to school today and didn't see you, so I hope you're okay.. Uh, I'm gonna try to get this to your uncle Ray, so he can get this to you, like we usually do if your dad isn't around to take my letters to you after I send them in the mail. Come back to school, please!! -- Phoenix
---
December 31st, 2001
Dear Miles, ...I heard your dad's gone away.. When I got my first letter to Uncle Ray, he was crying and stuff. He kept saying your dad won't be coming back from the courthouse.. I had to redo this letter a few times after that, cuz I kept crying all over it. It.. I...
(The letter is smudged a little bit all over the words after that, making the contents a little harder to read on the already semi-terrible handwriting.)
Man, I cried all over this one too, but not as bad, so I guess I'll send it. I'm real glad you and Larry aren't here to laugh at me, but I'm also really missing you bad, Miles. I don't have a dad, either, so I really wish you'd come back and stay with me and Mom. Mom says she misses you too. Where did you go...? It really hurts not having you here.. I can't stop crying... I can't stop.. Please come back!! -- Phoenix
(There's a tiny scribbled P.S. on the edge of this letter. 'P.S.- Happy New Year's in advance, I guess')
---
January 2002
Dear Miles, I.. think the teacher said you moved. I'm writing this at recess, so.. it's not gonna be as good. It's gonna be longer, too.. sorta. I don't know where you moved, but.. It hurts that you did. It's all over the news that your dad got.. I think it said 'shot'. Is that why he's not coming back? Uh, never mind, don't answer that. Lots of stuff happened since you went away. Uncle Ray stopped coming to see me after I gave him my other letter, so I'm gonna try giving this one to the principal or Mr. Grossberg's to have them try to get it to you. I feel really.. empty. Especially since you didn't write back yet. (I hope I spelled that right.. I had to ask a teacher to help me spell that.) It kinda hurts coming to school every day since you're not there. I miss you telling Larry he's saying dumb stuff (cuz he does).. I miss you teaching me about law stuff. I miss you getting all the teacher's questions right and helping me read better. I really miss you. ..I wonder, if this is how it feels for you to miss your dad. Does Uncle Ray and Larry and Mom miss you this bad, too? -- Phoenix
(Again, the letter is riddled with the occasional tear stain, and the last couple of lines seem unusually shaky, as if the writer were starting to lose their resolve mid-sentence..)

May 2002
Dear Miles, It was raining today when graduation happened. All of us got really wet, but you know what? I made it, Miles! I'm not gonna be in elementary school anymore! I'm a middle schooler now! ..But now I'm gonna get a cold and I'm gonna be stuck in bed for a week. Stupid rain!! Oh well, at least I got almost all A's. I'm working really hard to get to college like you were saying! You said you wanted to go to college someday to be a lawyer, right? I'm gonna do that, too! I wanna find you so we can defend people together someday like your dad did! He'd want that, right? Oh yeah, Larry and I are also learning how to draw and stuff. I wanna draw really good too, like those people who draw court trials for a living. If I really end up not being able to be a lawyer, I can at least draw you in court doing stuff, right? Anyways, I'm REALLY hoping this dumb letter gets to you this time!! The last one got sent a little bit before you showed up to get your dog back in December, but I guess it's okay that you didn't answer it. It was really good to see you again, but I'm also really scared you'll get sad and lonely by yourself out there. I hope you can visit without running away this time, okay..? -- Sincerely, Phoenix Wright
(There's another P.S. at the bottom of the letter. 'P.S- You used to put 'sincerely' on your old letters before you said your name, so I'm gonna try it, too!')
---
Spring 2004
Dear Miles, Did you like my radio request..? It was the only way I could think of to get my message out there. I really hope you're still in California to even hear that, Miles. So, I'd seen that Larry had bought a radio, since he said that was how adults liked entertainment nowadays.. (I hope I spelled that right, Miles. You kept referring to our old favorite show as 'children's entertainment' every time you talked about it at school!) I heard that the station was giving out requests one day, so I called them and asked! ..It's goofy, I know. I remember you went all pink when we were kids when I said nice stuff about you when you were there to hear it.. It made me feel warm when I thought about you! I still do feel warm, but I also feel like crying, because you're not here.
You're out there somewhere, out there with someone I don't know, out there with your dog, and that's still enough to make me feel happy. It makes me hope that you'll get these letters someday, Signal Red. ...Man, now Larry's laughing at me! I'm sitting here at lunch on the roof with him, writing this, and he said I looked all dreamy when I was writing this and my request to the station. Now I'M going pink! Okay, I'm gonna quit writing now before Larry sees it and laughs at me again.. I did mean what I said on my request, though. I want to see you again, Miles. Here's hoping one day, I can. Somehow, something tells me that my voice might help me the same way you helped me three years ago.. -- Sincerely, Phoenix Wright
---
August 2013
Dear Miles, I haven't written one of these in a while, heh.. I see you still haven't gotten my letters. Damn my life. I really had hoped you'd get the last one.. When did I write that, middle school..? I bought a radio with Larry's help after that, but you never did post a request after I did, so I kept it and moved on. I've decided I'm going to become a courtroom artist, so I've enrolled in Ivy University. Actually, haha, I didn't even MENTION that part first! I got into college finally! I had to redo my SAT a couple of times to get in, but I did it anyway! I'm mainly in their art program, but I'm doing some law studying on the side. Speaking of law... I heard you became a prosecutor not that long ago. The really nasty kind, like that gross von Karma guy. ..I saw a news story, right? It talked about you. There's some really nasty rumors going around, both in the papers and even around here at school. Nobody believes me when I say I had you for a friend, Miles. You used to be really thoughtful, and also kinda blunt. But I have a soft spot for you. A.. Admittedly..
(There's a break in the page. The handwriting got slightly shaky.)
...I guess you'd term it as 'unnecessary feelings', huh? Since middle school, I couldn't quit thinking about you wherever I went. Stuff keeps reminding me of you on a daily basis. Little Pomeranians walking around reminds me instantly of your tiny dog.. Every time I hear the Signal Samurai song when they do the occasional rerun reminds me of the time Larry bought us those keychains as kids, and that one time I had the radio people play the theme song. Since I've gotten here to Ivy University, I finally started contemplating my love life. I... never bothered with it, since I had you and Larry when we were in elementary.. You never bothered with girls, so I didn't feel so bad about being too nervous to ask any out. But the truth is... Maybe you were, and still are, enough to trump any girl. Okay, sure, I still occasionally wish I could kiss one or say 'I love you' to a girl, but.. most often, I end up imagining you in that girl's place. I see us together on the courtroom floor, working together to find the truth.. I see us finding the truth and smiling, even if one of us loses. Maybe a really long hug or a kiss at the very end of the trial, when nobody's looking at us. You going all pink and telling me that's unnecessary, but me insisting, like the goof people always call me now.
(Another break in the page. The handwriting gets slightly shaky again.)
...but I can't have you by my side now. Not now. You're stuck, Miles, and I can see that even though I can't see you physically here with me. It's almost like I can karmically feel your pain. If that makes any sense. (It probably doesn't.) I want to save you from becoming that von Karma dude. I'll get there eventually, right..?
(Another break in the page. The letter actually ends up on a second piece of paper this time, carefully handwritten in blue pen like the rest.)
..There's another reason why I can't do any of that sappy stuff I wrote earlier, at least not with you. I got a girlfriend, a really pretty one that smells sweet like cake.. Her name is Dahlia Hawthorne, and she's a writing student here at Ivy! We met up at the courthouse while I was doing some reading in the library, and I bumped into her when she'd been doing some stuff for a paper. She gave me this lovely glass necklace, with a tiny blue container and some gold decoration stuff. I ended up falling for her on the spot, ahaha. I did say earlier that I like girls, too, Miles, so I guess this makes sense! We started going out after she gave me the necklace, and she's absolutely wonderful! She makes me food all the time, and she made me this cute pink sweater I wish you'd see. (Knowing you, you'd probably end up laughing at how silly it looks, but if that's what Dollie's into, then I'll go with it!) I still really miss you, Miles, though. I wish you could meet Dahlia. She's like an angel, like the butterflies she's always got around her. She's as sweet as her coffee and cookies she makes. I'd draw her, but it'd be really weird if I gave you a picture of her, she said. Uh, I guess I'll write again later, this kinda got long.. -- Sincerely, Phoenix Wright

April 10th, 2014
(The letter has standard stationary belonging to the detention center, with some kind of emblem on the top, unlike the past letters which were on plain copy paper. The pen ink is replaced with pencil this time. Even the handwriting looks somber.)
Dear Miles, ...I got arrested. I guess I'd better explain, huh? Dollie had a boyfriend before me, apparently.. He was some snooty guy from the Pharmacology part of Ivy named Doug. He kept warning me about Dollie being dangerous or something, so I pushed him over and ran away. It'd been raining yesterday.. and... and..
(Tear stains almost ruins the writing in this section of the letter.)
...and Doug was gone, when I came back. I felt really bad for pushing him, honest! Now.. I might be responsible for him dying. How's that for bad luck, huh? I feel really heavy, like when I was a kid and your dad had gotten shot dead.. I can't really stop crying, and the guards are probably gonna yell at me to shut up if I start really going at it. Plus, I'm sick today, because I got a cold a little while ago thanks to all that rain.. God, Miles, I really wish you hadn't become a fucking prosecutor! I wish you were here to help me again! WHY DID GREGORY HAVE TO--
(More tear stains ruin a whole line of text following the name and messily written handwriting, making it unreadable. The writer must have been inconsolable trying to write this.)
....I had to get someone else to try defending me ib--
(The next word was crossed out after the tear-ruined handwriting. So was a few other expletives following that. Eventually, after a lot of crossed-out words in pencil, the letter continues a little more properly.)
...Crap, I ruined the letter, didn't I, Miles? I just feel so lost right now. I don't even have Larry or Dollie to make me feel better, and you're still off out there prosecuting. As I was saying before I messed up my words, I got another lawyer to hear me out. My trial starts tomorrow, so... I might be doomed. I'll never be able to become a lawyer and save you, it seems! I'll just be stuck in this gloomy prison for the rest of my life.. I really doubt I can get out of this one okay, Miles. I'm not good at doing stuff last-minute. You are, and you're not here.. Please, just this once.. Just this once, Miles... Come back.. Answer my damn letter! Please! Just once! I can't take being alone like this! I can't take it!! -- Signal Red
(The letter's not even signed properly.)

April 12th, 2014
(The letter goes back to its usual format, with one addition. There's an attached drawing this time. The drawing appears to be of Edgeworth himself, holding a few sunflowers and gladiolus flowers in his hands. The drawing is also in color, with Edgeworth being drawn in some distinctive shade of maroon.)
Dear Miles, ...Everything about Dahlia was a lie! She lied to EVERYONE. Including me. She was gonna kill me for real, Miles! Maybe I should've listened to imaginary-you and trusted my gut in court yesterday. Speaking of, I almost got poisoned! I'm having to write this from the hospital today, since they wanna make sure I'm not going to be poisoned for sure. But I've changed my mind about being a courtroom artist. That's no way to save you, Miles! I've made up my mind- I'm pursuing law full-time. My defense attorney, Mia, said she'd help me out if I were ever to go that way, and now I am. Dahlia's not holding me back, and now I won't let anything short of the law itself hold me back from saving you. Sure, it's probably really stupid to quit while I'm ahead, but.. I can't really say I should hold myself back anymore. I'm scared, but I want to push on now. I want you to smile with me again, Miles. That sappy stuff I said before.. I truly mean it. I love you, somehow. I don't know exactly how else to put it. You never read these, so I might as well be entirely honest, right? I promise, Miles, that I'll save you at any cost. Even if I have to defend you in court, I'll save you! That drawing’s some proof to it! -- Sincerely, Phoenix
(The P.S. this time says, ‘P.S- If I learnt anything from my shit experiences with Dahlia, it’s the meanings of the flowers I drew you with. Gladiolus flowers mean remembrance.. and sunflowers usually get symbolized for loyalty and joy. I also hear it’s a flower associated with lawyers...’)

July 2016
Dear Miles, Phew! I'm glad to say I finally managed to get my attorney's badge! The Bar Association just approved it today, and I'm not gonna lie, I ended up crying when my results came in! I'm now going to work for my past defense lawyer, Mia Fey! She was really happy when she'd heard I wanted to work as a member of her law team, and I'm gonna move into the office pretty soon now that I'm not gonna live in my old college apartment anymore. ..Yeah, I'm still gonna keep writing these letters to you, even though you haven't answered any of them all these years. So what if you never answered them? ..I'll keep sending them anyway. I'll be more of a pest than Larry was to us as kids until the day I die or the day you come back! ..Well, I digress. (Please tell me someday if I used this right.) Uh, anyways, things have been relatively okay since my last letter. I got my law degree, and that was really exhausting. My sleep schedule's now ruined forever thanks to going through the cogs of law full-time in college, but I kinda know what I'm doing about law now. I'm still doing art, but I more or less do it strictly as a hobby now, to be honest. I'm still in contact with Larry, too, but he's usually pretty bad at his jobs and stuff. He's a bit of a deadbeat, just like you remember him from elementary school. I don't have any pets, save for Charley, the office plant that's in Mia's office. I also got a brand-new suit the other day, a really bright blue one! Man, it was pretty cheap, and it fits kinda weird, but the shade's really comforting to me for some reason. It reminds me of Signal Blue, from Signal Samurai. I still have my old keychain to this day. It's on my phone now, actually, and I think of you a lot whenever I see it there. Mia told me a bit about her sister, Maya. She says she really likes bad jokes and that Steel Samurai show that plays sometimes on TV. I told her how you used to like Signal Samurai as a kid, and Mia said you'd probably be the kinda person who likes Steel Samurai. (I don't doubt it, surprisingly. After all, it's kinda Larry's fault you and I ever got into Signal Samurai..)
(There's a second sheet of paper attached.)
Oh, there's one more thing! Larry finally got a girlfriend. She's somewhere else right now, I think, maybe some kinda business trip? Her name was something like Cindy, I think.. but anyways, she and Larry have been having an awful lot of trouble lately, so I'm sincerely doubting they'll make it. ..As for me, well.. my mushy stuff still stands. Now, I mostly daydream about you when I'm not brushing up on law stuff or checking emails for Mia or cleaning the toilet.. I keep imagining you as a defense attorney like Mr. Gregory was, standing confident and having your cold-hard logic crush any lies that might come your way.. Well, and what I said in my last letter, heh. Me.. uh, kissing you and all that. That still stands! A lot! ..I just don't know if I can say this outside of writing, ugh. I feel so nervous just writing this down, and Mia's starting to stare eye-sized holes in my soul from where I'm sitting... Does she suspect something? Okay, yeah, maybe she does. All I usually do once asked why I became an attorney is gush about that tiny class trial years ago, when you defended me despite everyone else (save for Larry) not believing me when I said I didn't steal your lunch money.. I've kinda-sorta come to terms with the fact that you're apparently the one person I can count on for me to love, since you haven't killed me and haven't done anything else to break my heart besides not reading my goddamn letters ever. Seriously, Miles.. You've never sent any letters back to me.. That's okay, though. Maybe if you never open these, you'll never reject me like Dahlia Hawthorne did.. -- Sincerely, Phoenix Wright
---
August 3rd, 2016
Dear Miles, Okay... Here's my first ever trial! Larry got.. arrested. Probably the worst thing that's happened to him yet, I'm afraid. He's been accused of killing Cindy, apparently?? The second I heard about it, I asked the Chief to give me the case on the double! The problem? My stupid fricking not-diagnosed anxiety, that's what's the issue here! Well, that, and this IS my first trial.. Thankfully the Chief's gonna help back me up, but to be entirely honest, I'm kind of shaking right now.. I'm writing this as I'm preparing for the trial, so I don't know the outcome. Uh, wish me luck from out there, Miles! Maybe if I manage to bail Larry out of this, AND you answer my letters for once, how about the three of us go out somewhere and celebrate with the Chief? I think you'd really like Mia, Miles. She's really smart and really strong and independent, and I think you'd probably admire that a whole lot.. (And to be honest, you really should just answer my goddamn letters for once.. I miss you still, and I'm one step closer to saving you..!) -- Sincerely, Phoenix

April 4th, 2019 -- High Prosecutor's Office, Room 1202
Papers with varying writings scattered across the maroon-clad prosecutor’s desk, His heart fluttered slightly, feeling strong embarrassment at Wright accusing him of never touching the letters in the final page of the last letter he'd gotten before the pair reunited back during the trial of Mia Fey's murder. To be fair to the defense attorney, it hadn't exactly been his fault for not recieving them.. But to be fair to himself, he'd never bothered to open a single one, not even after Wright had freed him from the burden of ever having to hold back his pain that von Karma had caused him. As a result of realizing that, he felt his face flush furiously, almost the color of his own suit.
"...Calm yourself, Miles," the silver-haired man grumbled to himself, willing away the heat from his cheeks to the best of his ability.... and then it hit him like a pile of bricks, right then, That Sort Of Realization. He remembered wordings from a couple of the past letters, and..
Oh. Now he felt as if he'd gotten slapped in the face with a white-hot iron to the face. That was how flustered he felt, attempting to re-assemble his mess of brain cells after realizing W-- Phoenix had imagined the same things he did. No wonder Franziska said Phoenix was a distraction. He kind of was. But the good sort. How is it that he managed to miss that for so impossibly long...?!
That was incredibly embarrassing, to say the least! The grey-haired prosecutor gave a deep sigh, pinching the bottom of his nose and staying like that for at least the next ten minutes before huffing, stuffing the letters back in the bag, and locating the nearest pen and paper. Then, in a flurry of determination and his much-neater-cursive-print-hybrid handwriting, Edgeworth began to write something on the paper, his grey eyes focused very carefully on the words he wrote.
Dear Phoenix, I wish to tell you something, now that you and I have a little less chaos in our lives at the moment to prevent me from answering you...

Dear Sinless,
I have no idea where that came from, for one thing.  I’m neither almighty nor all-knowing, but I appreciate the praise (even if it’s supposed to be sarcastic -- I can’t really tell).
Tumblr media
Dear sinyove,
You look familiar...
Anyway, that’s a good question.  Sweating isn’t something you just forget how to do, so I imagine AJ Phoenix still sweats in nervous situations, just not as often since he isn’t involved in courtroom proceedings.  Plus he works at a cold restaurant, so that’s probably helped to cool him down a little.
Tumblr media
Dear sinyove again,
Sorry, but there’s no way for us to do that without answering it right away, so we’ll probably have to leave it as it was.  We’ll change it if we remember, though.
Tumblr media
(Song in Letter)
Dear CreatorOfSinyove,
That’s a pretty cool mashup, but I’m a little confused as to why you wanted me to call you by a different name.  You can always send letters with whatever name you want if you log out of your account first.  (Please forgive me if I’m missing something obvious here.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear Ethan Starbright,
Cute!  Unfortunately, I haven’t seen the play, so sorry for not getting the references.
Dear Ethan Starbright,
I'm not sure how I feel about Dahlia being Eliza... But a more important question, does that make Miles Burr? Or maybe Godot?
Tumblr media
(Previous Letter)
Dear Anonymous,
I wasn’t sure if this was meant for Phoenix or for us, so I’ll go ahead and answer it.  He’s saying he wouldn’t hire Shelly de Killer because he himself would end Kristoph.  You’d better hope and pray we never have to see that timeline.
Tumblr media
Dear skibot99,
It’s hard to say since I enjoy just about all of them, but my least favorite case is probably Turnabout Big Top.  The characters were charming, but the story was slow-going, and the contradictions were way too hard to figure out sometimes.
Incidentally, my favorite case is Turnabout Time Traveler.  It delighted me to see that the writers at Capcom still had it in them to make such a fun and imaginative legal adventure for Phoenix and Maya after all these years, and that neither of them had last their edge as clever and quirky crime-solvers.  I also happen to be a homeless hopeless romantic, and the idea of a man rescuing his bride from certain death (and the two of them continuing to love each other despite his anterograde amnesia) was incredibly touching for me.  In the words of Huey Lewis, “The power of love is a curious thing.”
Dear skibot99,
I honestly don't think I have a least favorite case, because maybe in one case I dislike how the story is proceeding (very slow or confusing), but I may find the characters very interesting, and vice versa.
However, my favorite case would have to be Rise from the ashes or any case from AAI2.
Tumblr media
Dear skibot99 again,
I haven’t really seen enough of the anime to judge it as a whole, but from what I’ve seen of it, it’s definitely worth watching.  I'd have to say that I prefer the games overall -- though, to be fair, I’d probably say that about any cartoon based on a game -- but the music, voice-acting, and animation are all pretty spectacular, and I love how many extra details it includes that would’ve been practically impossible to fit into the original trilogy games.  The adaptation from game to anime is fantastic as well, but I definitely prefer the English dubs over the Japanese ones.  Japanese is a lovely language, but hearing the characters speak English, rather than only seeing it, opens the series up to a much wider audience, and you’ve gotta love that.
Speaking of Japan, I’d say the best change to the storyline is having Phoenix and company actually live there instead of America, so we no longer have to wonder where all the Japanese culture is coming from or call it “Japanifornia” -- true, that inconsistency has made for some hilarious jokes, but at least now things make a little more sense.
As for the worst storyline change, it was sort of disappointing for me that Phoenix and Maya’s first encounter was so short -- they didn’t even say anything to each other until he visited her in prison.  It was still pretty sweet, but Maya’s introduction of herself to Phoenix was one of my favorite parts of the game, so I was sad to see that cut out of the anime.  I’ve never attempted to turn a video game into an anime, though, so I can let it go.
I do have to wonder why they thought they needed more than ten policemen to arrest Frank Sahwit, though...

Dear Bruce Goodman,
Aw, crud...  I accidentally smudged an important part of this letter.  And it was sent to us over a year ago, wasn’t it?  Sheesh, I’m getting clumsy...
In all serious, I prefer not to show the names of real-life politicians on this blog, but I hope you can put that information to good use.

Dear Anonymous,
Let’s see...

Yep, that’s a pretty uncanny resemblance, but I think it’s just coincidence.  I can’t imagine his mom letting him take on that sort of role, even if he had a stunt double.

Dear Anonymous,
I hate to spoil all your hard work, but I’m afraid I don’t know which image link you’re referring to (unless you meant this one).  Could you please clarify?

(Previous Letter)
Dear M,
Thanks a bunch, first of all.  There’s a lot to be said about the Royal Family of Khura’in (plus I tend to ramble anyway), so I did my best to keep it short.
Secondly, you’ve raised some good points.  I sort of snuck in the comparison to the Hawthorne twins at the last minute, so I didn’t give it as much thought as I probably should have.  It’d be more accurate for me to say that I thought she was that she was too meek to disobey her sister (in fact, I went ahead and rewrote it that way in the essay).
I'm a huge fan of Iris, by the way, and I agree that she can be strong when the need arises, but there are at least a few things that led me to believe she still has a bad habit of caving in to pressure from others.  First, while she never actually obeyed Dahlia, she chose to do whatever was necessary to keep her crimes a secret, rather than making the harder but wiser decision of turning her in to the police.  Second, she was willing to cooperate with someone she barely knew (Godot), even to the point of taking a dead body and impaling it with a statue’s sword -- that took some guts, I’ll admit, but it also landed her in prison.  And third, she was willing to take the fall for everyone involved in the plan to stop Dahlia in case something went wrong.  Whether she decided to do that out of guilt for her past sins, or for some other reason, it was still highly questionable at best.  Take the blame for a murder I didn’t commit and let Godot have his way?  Sure, why not?
All that being said, I also believe that she managed to forgive herself after everything was out in the open.  Most of Iris’s responses were written by someone else (the ones with lowercase tags were written by the Mod), but I guess I have sort of portrayed her as still feeling guilty about her masquerade, and that does seem a bit out of character now that you mention it, so I’ll try to keep that in mind for future letters to her.  Thanks for bringing it up.
Also, while we’re on this subject, this comparison reminded me of this letter that I sent back before I was a moderator.  It’s sort of heartwarming, isn’t it?
(You were so sweet sometimes, Mod...  *sniffle*)

3. January
Miles,
Dahlia had to go home over winter break. She didn’t call me before she left. I hope she's all right. I called her dorm to ask and make sure she was okay after I hadn't heard from her. They told me she had gone home for the month but wouldn't give me a home number, I begged them and said I was her boyfriend, but they hung up on me. I started crying, but I know you wouldn't be happy if you knew I was crying over something so silly, so I stopped myself as quickly as I could and went on a walk, and decided to write you again.
It is so beautiful outside. The campus is so silent and still, and the snow looked so otherworldly. There were big, beautiful clouds in the sky, but you could still see the stars behind them. While I was out there, I saw a shooting star. Don’t tell anyone, but I wished for you. I should have wished for Dahlia to marry me someday, but I guess I didn't think fast enough. You must be on my mind, apparently.
I know I spend a lot of time talking about my Dollie, but I haven't forgotten about you, Miles, and I never will. I always check the paper for some mention of you, but, I want to hear your side of the story. How are you?
Your friend,
Phoenix Wright
Miles!
She was so happy to see me when she came back! When we met just outside her dorm, she had such a big smile that my heart could have burst! She walked up to me shyly, and I asked her if I could hug her. She said no, not in front of everyone in her dorm, and giggled happily. I giggled too, and we went to dinner. I tried to tell her a bunch of crazy stuff that I saw and heard happened on campus while she was away, but just looking into her eyes would have been enough for me. She is so beautiful and perfect, no wonder I felt so lonely without her over break! I almost couldn't bear to see her go afterward, but I held her necklace tight to calm myself as I watched her leave.
We stayed up late, it's almost 11, so I'm going to bed. I'm so happy she's back with me!
Best,
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
I know it's been a while. I've been busy preparing my ten minute one-act for the show we just had. I think I'm getting better, but sometimes it's so hard to tell. We just had the last performance this evening, but...
Miles, she didn’t come to the performance. I let her know about it, and it's been the only thing on my mind this past month. I bought her a ticket. But I didn't see her at curtain call. And when I asked her where she had sat, the part of the theater she told me she was in was completely different from the one her ticket was for. She lied to me.
But I forgive her. I wish I knew why she felt like she had to lie. If she forgot the time or didn't feel up for it, I would forgive her still. She must have lied because she was afraid I wouldn't believe her. I want to tell her that whatever it was, it's all okay and I will always believe her. But what if it was something else? I don’t want to make her talk about something that will just make her sad. Maybe she can come to the next one.
Your friend,
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
I asked Dollie on a last-minute date today, just because she was on my mind. After some thinking, she said yes. But when we met up for dinner, she kept talking and I could hardly get a word in, even when I did have something to say. She was really distracted and kept looking around. I tried to tell her a funny story from rehearsal that day, but I could only get a sentence in before she would go on a tangent about what I had just said. It was really strange of her, I almost never see her like this. She must be stressed about her classes already, poor Dollie. I'll have to do my best to support her. I'm really worried about her.
Sincerely,
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
I saw Larry today. Larry, his new girlfriend, and I all went to the new pizza place downtown. I'll have to take Dollie there sometime! Have you tried it yet? It's not far from the courthouse.
Larry was talking about how they'd  met, and she asked me if I was going out with anyone. I said yes, and told her how I first met my angel, Dollie. Then Larry asked how we were doing. I guess I must have taken too long to answer. Larry said that he'd love to date someone as sweet and beautiful as Dahlia is. I told his girlfriend that she was just as beautiful (even though no one is as beautiful and perfect as Dollie!), but it was too late. She got up and left so angrily that her cup of ice water spilled all over the table. Larry was laughing at the spill, but I couldn't help feeling bad for her.
Larry is a good person, he really is, he's just...he can be very selfish at times. Maybe one day he'll grow up, but in the meantime, I don't always like to be with him. Do you understand?
Oh, I hope you don’t think I'm a bad person. Larry is my friend. I could never hate him, and I could never hate Dollie or you. You are all good people, and I believe that you just need the chance to show it, whether that means growing up or being protected by a boyfriend or
Anyway, I have some reading to do. School is going fine.
Sincerely,
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
Dahlia found out what I told Larry and his girlfriend. She's so modest and pure, she reminded me that we are a secret. She told me to apologize to her and I did, I love her too much and I can't help it if I go blabbing about her. Dollie just shook her head and told me not to show my necklace to the world. I mean, I do show people, but I don’t tell anyone anything much about her. You’ve read my letters! You know I don’t. Right? I never tell anyone anything about her, except of course that I love her and she's beautiful and sweet.
Oh, I guess I tell you. Sorry about that, Miles. I know you're a real person out there somewhere, but I
I'm sorry.
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
I know it’s been a while, because I've been a little busy that I hardly have time to do much outside of sweet Dollie and my classes. Which are going okay, by the way.
I had such a strange day with my Dollie today. She was sad and quiet, in a way that breaks my heart. She seemed distant, so I tried to help her. I asked her if she could help me learn my lines for A Midsummer Night's Dream, which is coming up here for midterms. I'm going to be Tom Snout, but I've been chosen as an understudy for Puck! She was really sweet and agreed. It was so nice to hear the lines spoken to me in her refined manner. Sometimes, with her beauty combined too, it's almost otherworldly. Once, she caught me looking at her, and she reached over to touch my arm so gently. I could hardly say a word after that, I kept feeling like her hand was still there on my sweater she made for me, and my arm felt numb. I thought it was a moment worth sharing.
Your friend,
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
My Dollie was mad at me today, but I don’t know why. She said I acted stupid on our movie date. But after I got back to my room, she called and apologized. I'm not really sure what I did. I didn’t ask to put my arm around her or hold her hand and I didn't talk to anyone, since she asked me not to do those things. Sometimes I laugh at parts of the movie no one else laughs at, but that couldn’t be it. Could it?
But when she called, she really sounded sad and worried about my feelings. I felt so bad, I started crying. Dollie must be so stressed to snap at me like that. I hope her family isn't giving her trouble. Maybe we'll be able to talk about it sometime.
Sincerely,
Phoenix Wright
Miles,
Larry says hi. I saw him this weekend at one of the parties he throws. Dollie doesn’t like parties, so I went by myself. But I didn’t even look at any other girls, I swear it! I felt her necklace hot on my skin as I went around talking. But I didn’t tell anyone anything about her, just like she asked. I can keep my Dollie's secrets safe.
Larry asked me how things were going with her, and I said we were great. He told me he wishes he was still going strong with such a beauty. I think he's proud of me. I gripped her necklace extra tight, thinking about how much I love her.
When I got home I called her right away like I'd promised. I told her how much I love her. She told me all about a poet she was studying that I'd never heard of before, I can't remember the name, but she told me all about them until it was time for bed. I asked her to read me a poem, but she said she couldn’t find the book. My Dollie is so smart to remember all that! Maybe she'll write a poem for our 6 month anniversary.
Anyway, it's time for rehearsal. Dollie promised me she would come to this performance. I'm sure she'll see the handsome, talented actor she knew was inside me all along. Wish me luck!
Your friend,
Phoenix Wright

Please don’t ask what's on my mind
I'm a little mixed up but I'm feeling fine
When I'm near that girl that I love best
My heart beats so it scares me to death!
She touched my hand, what a chill I got
Her lips are like a volcano that's hot
I'm proud to say she's my buttercup
 I'm in love
 I'm all shook up!

Everything you heard is true, I have only gone and bagged myself another allotment and not another half plot either a FULL plot in full sun, YIPEEEEEE!
Are you ready to meet her?
OK then, here she is……… Meet No.9 Dream…… isn’t she beautiful?
I had my name down for just over a year and the wait was truly worth it. The former owner of my new plot can no longer keep up to the management of a full plot plus a half plot next door due to arthritis so handed it back, which was very lucky for me as it’s not in bad nick at all. Compared to my other plot (No.34b) when I first took that on it was completely covered in Bindweed, Couch Grass, Nettles, Mares Tail and Comfrey and lots of Ash saplings. So the new plot was a welcomed pleasant surprise as I was expecting hell!
The new plot came with completed raised beds down the left hand side that just needed a spot of weeding, an established strawberry and raspberry bed, a wild flower patch a plum tree and a shed! This was a dream come true, I had just won the jackpot of allotments!
I signed the contract and was handed the keys, No.9 Dream was mine all mine!
After an hour of wondering round the plot with my head buzzing with ideas and excitement I decided to look a little closer at the plot. The left hand side where the established raised beds are is in great condition, there are just a few annual weeds to tackle, so I got onto that right away so I can begin growing almost instantly. I purchased some manure and sharp sand to spread on the beds because the soil is very heavy clay, which isn’t the best but feeding it will help improve that. I cleared out a waste pile that the previous owner had accumulated in the top right hand corner, in total from this corner I did 3 waste tip runs filling 15 garden waste bags.  I also had a fire with some of the left over dried out debris and added the ash to the beds too.
As I wondered around the more unruly right hand side, it was becoming more true to taking on a new allotment. Upon closer inspection it would appear that I have quite a lot of Couch Grass, Lesser Celandine and Ground Elder to tackle and unfortunately I can’t just cover the ground either as there are a tonne of random raspberry canes everywhere, that’s on top of two established raspberry beds. Someone definitely liked their raspberries!! They are all over the plot, in pathways, in raised beds, amongst the flower patch, so I need to dig these up. I have decided to just have one large raspberry patch on this plot. All the surplus and random canes I am donating to others. My brother is taking some for the garden at the school he teaches, my two netball buddies are getting some and a new plot neighbour is having some too. Yes there really is that many!
It’s a good job I have had the time spare to get straight stuck in with the graft as my council allotment contract says in 3 months you need to have 50% of the weeds and rubbish cleared from the plot and 25% needs to be in cultivation otherwise it’s keys back and pack your bags your off!! This is fairly strict but there are so many messy uncultivated plots that there needs to be firm rules in place.
My new neighbours all seem lovely too, I’ve already got chatting to most of them and one of them grows dahlias too. Remember the one I lost that arrived rotten and had sold out, well she’s offered to give me a cutting of hers yayyy! This is why allotments are fantastic everyone is always willing to help one another, it’s such a wonderful thing to be a part of.
So I guess by this point you’re wondering what plans a I have in store for No.9 Dream?
Well the area where I cleared the debris from is going to remain the wildflower patch which wraps around the entrance, I have decide I am going to build a pond here too. I swear by installing ponds to help with pest management, those frogs, toads and newts make easy work of those pesky slugs and snails. There’s a beautiful plum tree just below this area that fruited for the first time last year so I’m very excited about this, lots of jam and fruit leathers in the near future. Around the plum tree are yep more raspberries and a tonne of Iris, that have stopped flowering. This I presume is because the rhizomes are sat in wet heavy clay below a mound of couch grass and not baking in the sun like they require. So I will dig these up and plant them around the pond area, I love Iris flowers they are so pretty, I’m hoping thias will give them a new lease of life.
I will then go on to installing more raised beds down the right hand side and making new paths here too, whilst clearing out all the weeds and raspberries then covering with membrane so we don’t get the weeds back from any missed stray roots that still maybe lurking in the ground. After this I won’t dig the ground or beds again, as I intend to have another no dig plot.
The back end of the plot needs clearing as there are more weeds and raspberries, another pile of debris and a Hawthorn tree, which can’t stay as it’s not on a dwarf rootstock. The plan for the back will be to have 2 compost bins that I will make from pallets and a wildlife area which will consist of a bug hotel, log and stumpary and maybe another raised bed too, I will keep the blackberries that are growing up the fence and just tie them in so they don’t root elsewhere on the plot. I think I may pt in another fruit tree down here too, but I’m still undecided on that.
So that’s the grand plan, for now at least. I’m pretty sure these will change over time or I will have to make changes to include something else, but so far I’m happy with my choices and over the moon with my new plot. I want it to be my sanctuary where I can relax when I’m not grafting on it, take in the sunshine and enjoy the lovely wildlife.
What are your thoughts, is there a vision you see that I have missed for No.9 Dream, please share with a comment below, I’d love to hear them.
Thanks for reading and please don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE!
Brightest Blessings,
Bo x
