the only life advice i feel equipped to give:
when you’re young u can only romanticize your pain and hurt for so long. one day you’re going to realize u have to stop sabotaging yourself by assuming your hurt is all that makes you. you have to consider all your good qualities. that u are a bright and creative person who might’ve been dealt a bad hand, and all u can control is how you treat yourself. you have to be kind to yourself to survive. you have to let go of that impulse to treat yourself poorly because u think u deserve it. forgive yourself for whatever makes you feel like you don’t deserve the same love and care as everyone else. please.

notes: i was inspired by @darling-i-read-it when i saw the post abt Leon having a crush on a STARS agent and oml i haven’t stopped thinking about it so here i am yet again

• Leon had just started his position as a rookie cop at the Raccoon City PD and he’s always given the worst little tasks and assignments
• one day though - about four days into his first week - he passes the STARS office on his way with boxes to the storage room and almost drops them all
• he sees without a doubt the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen in the STARS office, laughing at something the guy beside her said
• he has to pull himself together and take the boxes to storage room, his little heart hammering so fast the whole time
• Leon finally being introduced to you and the rest of the STARS team the next week when he’s instructed to take some paperwork to the STARS office
• he fell in love immediately when you walked to him, smiling widely, and taking the papers while introducing yourself
• he can hardly keep himself together as you walk him around the STARS office and introduce each agent to him
• he falls even harder when you scold each one, telling them all to be nice to him because he’s new
• after that, Leon always finds himself gravitating toward you any chance he gets — in the copy room, the kitchen, the shooting range
• you thinking he took a liking to you because you were one of the only ones who didn’t give him a hard time and to be honest, you didn’t really mind. he was sweet and totally lovable
• Leon honestly found it so insane how you were an absolute menace around the station
• like you would go around the office and flirt with a few officers to get them to do a task for you that you really didn’t want to do in the first place
• of course it always worked and they were all suckers for you
• and if he thought you were a menace on a daily bases, oh he was so surprised at how bold you were at holiday parties
• you would dance to the music in the most inappropriate ways possible for a work party
• and for some reason, it made him like you even more
• he also loved how you’d wear headphones with a walkman on your belt, and sing along, and dance to the music while you made copies or just walked around the station
• his crush on you was so bad, like next level bad
• in fact, you didn’t pick up on his crush on you at all. it was Jill who did. she never said a word of course, but she could just tell
• Leon always felt a little jealousy when he saw you talking to another agent, like Chris
• he knew you were out of his league, but he couldn’t help the hot jealousy in his chest as he would watch you laugh at something Chris said
• of course, he didn’t know that you’d rejected Chris when you first started working there and he asked you out a few times
• oh but Jill does. she loves to tease him for it, always reminding him of how you brutally shot him down
• and the teasing quickly becomes a problem when Leon walks by the STARS office one day and overhears Jill’s teasing
• of course, all Leon’s lovesick little brain processes are the words Chris, crush, and your name
• he doesn’t talk to you for two weeks. he ignores your jokes, your teases, your playful flirting (which he never ignores)
• until you finally get it out of him two weeks later in the shooting range
• he stammers and tells you he overheard Jill talking about you and Chris, and he likes you but it’s okay because he knows you don’t feel the same way, and you and Chris would be good together
• and you almost break then “oh, Leon, i don’t like Chris. Jill just likes to tease him because i rejected him when i started working here”
• Leon is obviously stunned “oh, uh, you don’t? sorry, i shouldn’t have said all that now i feel bad and -”
• “no, Leon. don’t feel bad. i actually kinda like you too you know…” you smiled sheepishly — which is pretty rare for you to be nervous
• Leon’s eyes widening to an unnatural size as he grins “you do? really? i didn’t think you’d like me i’m just a rookie.”
• “whether you’re a rookie or a trained professional, i like you. you’re really sweet and i know you’d treat me really well.”
• after that, you two start dating
• which is so fucking weird because a lot of the guys in the station — STARS and non-STARS — have been hitting on you and Jill since like the dawn of time
• it’s a little tense for Leon for a little while because a few other guys are even resentful you fell for a rookie and not them
• but of course Leon won’t say a word to them, so when he’s not around you put them in their place and tell them to leave him alone or you’ll fuck them up
• they are all obviously a little scared so they listen and start being nice - or as nice to a rookie as possible- to him again
• Leon always being so nervous and worrisome when you go in assignment
• seriously, he’ll worry himself to a point where he can’t sleep and he’ll nod off at his desk during the day
• when you finally get back, he always tells you how much he missed you and how worried he was and how he never wants you to leave him again
• but of course you always go on assignments. it’s a cruel cycle really
• you realize you were right — Leon did treat you so well. like a fucking princess honestly
• you believe you were so lucky that day when the lieutenant forced him to take paper work up to the STARS office
• Leon being literally the sweetest and best boyfriend you ever had and always making sure you’re okay and happy and safe
• but how could you not be happy? Leon is literally perfect to you and you couldn’t be happier with anyone else

The Gilded Age's Broadway Divas: Aurora Fane (Kelli O'Hara)
Beloved by all, Aurora Fane enjoys a powerful position in Mrs. Astor's New York. Having suitably recovered from impending financial ruin last season, this season, Aurora has done some ill-fated matchmaking, worn some fantastic hats, and provided beautiful window dressing to scenes where she just sits there and looks pretty.

One of Broadway's (few) leading sopranos, Kelli O'Hara is a dying breed. As trends shift towards a more pop/rock sound, and classical musical theatre becomes a thing of the past, Kelli nevertheless finds her niche. A seven-time Tony nominee, Kelli has won Best Leading Actress in a Musical for the 2015 revival of The King and I. You'll recall another Gilded Age Diva who won for that same role some years prior. A proshot of the NT Live production can be found online. It is a gorgeous shoot, even if I take issue with that show as a whole.
She has also been nominated for Kiss Me, Kate (2019), The Bridges of Madison County (2014), and The Light in the Piazza (2005). Ironically, though Aurora Fane supports The Academy, Kelli is a classically trained opera singer who has appeared on the Met Opera stage three times, and will play Laura Brown in an encore run of The Hours this spring. (See my breakdown post over costumes here.)
However, prior to her opera appearance, Kelli will be starring in the new Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses for a limited 16-week run, opening on January 28th. Kelli has been nominated for every role she has played since 2005, and this will almost certainly be no different. Booked and busy.
#1: "Shall We Dance?" The King and I (2015)

Kelli's voice is otherworldly angelic. That much we already know very well. The King and I opened in 2015 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center, the third musical Kelli has starred in at that venue. The Beaumont is, of course, right next to The Met Opera, and the only Broadway theater outside the theatre district in Midtown.
As Anna Leonowens, Kelli travels to Siam to teach the children and wives of the king how to speak English. Orientalism aside, the show is a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein, and the score is divine in Kelli's mouth. Fun fact: Kelli's replacement was Marin Mazzie in one of her last onstage roles. Marin was the Passion co-star and dear friend to Donna Murphy, our Mrs. Astor.
This video is from the 2015 Tony performance and showcases the incredible quick change Kelli makes between singing "Getting to Know You" and "Shall We Dance?" aided by a team of unbelievable dressers. It is a marvel to witness. As is Ruthie Ann Miles, Kelli's co-star who recently performed in the Encores! production of Light in the Piazza.
#2: "What More Do I Need?" Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration (2020)

In 2020, despite a global pandemic, the theatre community still found a way to honor Stephen Sondheim's milestone 90th birthday with an online concert. Kelli performed a song from Saturday Night, Sondheim's first professional musical that was slated for Broadway in 1955, but was scrapped. It only got its New York premiere in 2000. This particular number is a cabaret favorite, and Kelli is an absolute delight with just a camera and digital accompaniment.
Fun fact: it wasn't until this particular performance that I truly started to appreciate the wonder that is Kelli O'Hara. I had previously seen her in concert just that March, and loved her, of course, but I have a complex relationships with sopranos. I now recognize that I love mature sopranos, but it's the ingenues I can't listen to without wincing.
#3: "They Don't Let You In the Opera" (2016)

Lest we think Kelli is limited in her range and style, this song was written especially for her to showcase her vast talent and comedic timing. Kelli, an Oklahoma farmgirl, isn't the sort of person you'd expect to be both classically trained and country literate.
Kelli, who has been typecast as refined and often repressed characters who go through harrowing emotional experiences, much like Aurora Fane, is more than capable of bringing a rollicking comedy to the mix.
This number is a favorite in Kelli's concert repertoire. There isn't much more to say, except that you need to witness its hilarity for yourself.
#4: “Heaven? Somebody else’s heaven?” The Hours (2023)

Speaking of opera, here is an excerpt from a scene in Act II where Laura Brown has fled to a hotel room to contemplate some very serious courses of action. Kelli, alongside soprano Renee Fleming and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, makes up a trio of phenomenal women in Kevin Putts' adaptation of the book and movie.
The Met Opera theatre seats nearly 4,000 people across six levels. The performers do not use body mics or amplification of any kind, but rather rely on intense vocal training to be heard across the theater. For this reason, alongside the vastly different vocal techniques and styles, musical theatre actors rarely cross over into opera, and vice versa. Notable exceptions include Renee Fleming, Kelli's Light in the Piazza co-star Victoria Clark, and Mary Beth Peil, who made her musical theatre debut in The King and I as yet another Miss Anna, hers in 1985.
#5: "So in Love," Kiss Me, Kate (2019)

Starring in yet another Golden Age musical revival, Kelli brings a different take on Lilli Vanessi, a glamorous movie star in a turbulent relationship. Kelli's vocal talent, of course, speaks for itself. For Kelli, this role was a tribute to her dear friend, the late Marin Mazzie, who had passed away some months before the show opened. Marin, who replaced Kelli in The King and I, had played this same role in the 1999 Broadway revival to great acclaim. In her first entrance of the show, Kelli wore a costume that featured the very same hat Marin wore in her show.
Though this video is beloved, my personal favorite rendition can be heard below. It was taken at a concert Kelli put on at the 92Y in New York last February. In it, Kelli sings for and to Marin, and the entire theatre wept.

The role of Mother was originally workshopped by Donna Murphy in Toronto in the early 90s, but she left to do King and I, which worked out well for her. In came dear friend Marin Mazzie, who originated the role on Broadway, and established a precedent no other has been able to top. Also in that cast? Audra McDonald as Sarah, for which she won a Tony, of course.
In 2023, after years of pandemic-related delays, they staged a one-night reunion concert of this special show. And who better to take on Marin's iconic role than Kelli O'Hara? Listen to her "Back to Before" here, and then do yourself a favor and run, don't walk, to listen to Marin's.

Here’s another one to tide you over until I post the fic
He’s almost positive he doesn’t love you anymore. You don’t give a shit about the things he gives a shit about. You’re never home. He may as well be living alone. He’d prefer it.
The tea scalds his lips, but he perseveres. He finds a seat at the table, where you haven’t eaten dinner together in God-knows how long, and stares blankly at the shelf ahead.
There’s a picture of you and him, captured some years ago. Levi doesn’t like smiling in pictures. He doesn’t like having his picture taken, period. But for some reason he can’t remember, his mouth is softly quirked and the corners of his eyes are creased.
It’s impossible to remember you ever making him that happy—not when he’s been miserable for what feels like forever.
But sometimes, it’s nice. You come home from work while he’s making dinner, and you make more of a mess by leaving your unwashed thermos in the sink. He gives you the benefit of the doubt, reminding himself it’s not out of spite. You do it because you get distracted thinking about what CD you’re going to shove into the player that sits on the shelf below the picture he can’t bring himself to hate. It’s probably Mazzy Star, or some other depressing indie-rock band that you found in college and never stopped listening to. You hum along and nod your head, and you don’t even realize you’re doing it.
Those moments give him more faith in your marriage. They remind him he doesn’t hate you for existing, and that there will always be a flame lit. Whether it’s a fire or a candlelight, and whether he embraces it or not, it’s there. It’s “real love”.

BIOGRAPHY
Margot Rowe is the girl who has everything. Born in a small town in Georgia, she was thrust into pageantry before her first birthday and gymnastics before her second. An only child, she had two parents who would dote on her with constant praises. Her mother, Tonya, was a former beauty queen that only saw a younger version of herself in Margot while her father, Richard, only wanted to see her be an upstanding Christian girl with her head on her shoulders. And Margot was happy to oblige. 
There’s always been a quiet naivety to Margot. Growing up, she was always sheltered from the horrors of the real world. She grew up in the church and nothing bad ever happened to good Christian girls unless they were asking for it, so Margot always stayed focused on things that mattered. Her life practically revolved around school, cheerleading practice, and church choir. There was no time for anything else. No time for parties and absolutely no time for boys. You may call her a prude or stuck up, but she just thinks it’s rather romantic to wait for the right guy.
Cheerleading was the first time Margot ever felt like she belonged. It was a place where she was truly wanted for her talents and not because her parents were on the board of something. Being a part of a team, a winning team, was all that mattered to her. Even if it wasn’t something she could continue into adulthood, she continuously made sure to be the best of the best. She was never quite head cheerleader material, Margot has never been someone to scream or yell, or hurt others' feelings. No, she was always the one helping girls up after they fell or consoling girls who didn’t make it and would cry in the bathroom, telling them “there’s always next year.”
Cherry wasn’t Margot’s first choice for college. She had her sights set somewhere more local, but after a rough stint in her senior year of high school, she had to look elsewhere for school. Luckily, C.C.U. didn’t do hard background checks on their students and Margot’s transcript spoke for itself. Straight A’s, extracurriculars, no juvenile record (as far as they were concerned), and an upstanding citizen. Plus, the old pastor at Cherry Baptist had passed away so it was the perfect excuse for Margot and her family to move out west with her dad applying for the post. 
Now a sophomore at C.C.U., Margot feels like she’s been a fine addition to the Cherry Cheerleading Club. She’s a breath of fresh air in a sea of girls who would rather murder each other to get to the top than help each other. That behavior is slowly beginning to rub off on Margot. Usually, she’s the one to nod and smile rather than tear someone down with vicious words, but you are who you spend your time with and if Margot stays on the team any longer, it’s just a ticking time bomb before she falls into their lies and schemes.

Dad!Harry talks to his daughter about her questioning sexuality PART 2
part one

After tucking June in bed, much to her playful annoyance, Harry made his way to the bedroom where the love of his life was resting. Crossing the hallway, he smiled to himself. There was nothing he loved more than being a trusted father. Having this responsibility lifted him, it guided him to be even better. Just replaying the conversation he had in his head was bringing extra moisture to his eyes. What could he say? He was a natural softie, this (y/n) knew so it was no different with his babies.
Right before making it to his shared bedroom, he instead turned to make his way to the younger ones' room. (y/n) might possibly be crossed with him if she finds out he awoke them just for some kisses, but she didn't have to know.
Shuffling into the room, lit by a nightlight that displayed soft stars on the kids' ceiling, he noticed both of them whispering to one another. Having them share a room was the conscious decision of the parents. Although they had a few rooms to spare, they preferred the twins to sleep together, as they quickly noticed how the two reacted when apart. Oftentimes, they'll find Mick in Mazzy's bed, or vice-versa. It is clear to the parents that the twins are most comfortable with one another, and separating them seemed borderline abusive.
"Hmmm, what're you two on about? Late, innit?" Harry softly spoke, with a smile on his face to clear any seriousness in his words.
"Dadaaaa" Mazzy dragged, smiling that her father was here. She sat up on her bed, making grabby arms as to drag her father further into the room. He was so weak for his babies and quickly made his way to her.
"Mazzy meet friends today. Talk dada," Mick explained in an annoyed tone, which Harry obviously found hilarious. Pardon him for not knowing the basis of their conversations. As he smiled to himself, he wrapped his arm around Mazzy as she further burrowed himself on his side, and he extended his hand to Mick (whose bed was a very short distance away from Mazzy's). "Bedtime dada, momma said sleep" Mick said seriously to his father as he reluctantly grabbed his hand.
Harry and (y/n) could see the personalities of the two strongly already: Mick adopted the role of the carrying older brother despite being born only six minutes before, and Mazzy the clumsy, caring younger sister. The twins upheld their roles quite well, and because of their personalities, they rarely left each others' sides.
"Oh baby, I know she did but I just want some snuggies. Don't kill me, 'kay?" Harry said, pulling his arm so Mick would get the message to hug his father. Despite wanting to seem ever-so mature, loved nothing more than to hug the most important man of his life and finally succumbed to 'snuggies'.
"Mumma said to sleep for school, dada," Mazzy inquisitively said to Harry, looking up at him questioning.
"Yes baby, you two need to start sleeping more, you'll start preschool later this year, and mums' not sure if they do nappy time like in daycare." He rubbed both of their backs in unison as he saw them interlock hands on his stomach. These moments, he thinks, are the exact reason he does what he does. He wants nothing more than to support his babies (all four, actually) and be able to watch them grow. "Just wanted to give you guys some kissies. Kissies please?" He finished by puckering his lips as he looks down at the two.
They giggle and lean up to press soft kisses on his cheeks simultaneously.
"Now what's this about some friends, Mazzy?"
"Yes papa, so nice to me. Mick wants to hear if good friends."
Harry continued to rub their backs, so proud of their bond. "Good job Mick, always taking care of your sister. You know she'll always do the same for you too."
"I know dada, told me Aidan was rude to her. We not friends again." Mick stated, again making his father's chest filled with pride.
"Good, we all know we need to treat our friends nicely but if they are not kind back, we can't let ourselves be their friends. What do we do, babes?"
The kids smiled, playfully annoyed once again yet said together: "treat people with kindness." dragging it out as most kids do with very little seriousness.
"I've gotta go now, let's tuck you both in so momma will never know I was here, 'kay?" He lifted Mick in his arms and carried him the short distance to his bed, while Mazzy tucked her legs back in her blankie. Making sure Mick was cozy, he planted a wet kiss on his forehead.
"Dadaaa" Mick smiled, knowing his father's antics by now.
After placing another kiss on Mazzy's head, he placed a palm on both of the children's bellies. "I love you two so dearly. You guys, June, and your mum are the best things in my life. Rest up so we can have another fun day tomorrow babies."
He finally made his way out of their room, seeing the two burrowings further into their respective blankets with their eyes closed filling his heart. Sneaking his phone out, he snapped a quick picture and sent it to his wife so she could keep a copy of the moment. (although, through this, he effectively ruined the small secret of waking them.) Fuck it, he'll just say this is how he found them.

"She wanted to talk about the Sage situation?" (y/n) guessed, as her beloved crossed the threshold and planted himself face-first on their king bed. All spread out, he moved his back to crack it, due to the stress of every day and ... well, age.
"Said she heard about my sexuality more than yours. Bet you're jealous huh?"
"Please, I know the bond you two have. Is she okay though? You gave her the good ole' 'we'll always be there' parent talk?" (y/n) never doubted his ability to be a father, but these circumstances were a bit more sensitive than other matters. She finally shut her book, placing it on the bedside table that holds Harry and her's current reads. There was no better end to her day than kissing her babies and reading alongside the love of her life.
"She's okay, I think. It's hard for her, obviously. I hate seeing her in pain but this is just one of those things she has to do. As long as she knows we're here, I don't expect it to be too difficult?" He pondered. He did mean it, being a questioning teenager is difficult as is but adding sexuality to the equation? He was fortunate enough to be so self-assured that the concept of questioning himself wasn't that turbulent. "But she wants to hear from you too, obviously. Be prepared to share your life story babe," he giggled, turning his head to see his wife who now began to stroke his hair. God, that really did it when he was tired.
"Yeah, I think I recall her saying this week was slow since she finished exams, so would you agree that we could take a girl's day in light of it all?" She pondered, wanting to assure her daughter in the best, normal way possible.
Harry finally sat up, only to cuddle into his wife's arms. This was another reason he knew the two were soulmates: she loved being the big spoon as much as he liked being held in her arms. "Yes, definitely a good idea. Mhm, what'd I do to have someone as mindful and loving as you? M'life would be incomplete without you, you're everything to me, love." Still feeling as 'lovey-dovey' as ever, he burrowed his head further into her, almost physically absorbing the love she poured out.
"I just want her to feel normal, I guess. When I finally came out, it seemed like it was the only interesting thing about me. It was the only point of conversation for a while, and I don't want June to feel like it's such a hugely different thing. She's still our baby, always will be."
"Hmm, the parenting books have nothing on us. So happy we're a team," he says, grabbing one of her hands to intertwine their fingers. "Gives me a love boner just thinking about how good we are, God."
"Narcissistic asshole. Want a bedtime handie?"
Her words make him shudder, a moan itching to be released. "M'done for with you."
She smiles at his words, knowing that the man in her arms is unlike the general population in that he prefers her hand far over her mouth. Shifting a bit, she kept one arm around his shoulders, to keep him close, and inched the other one to his briefs. They were firm believers in comfortable sleeping, which often lead to sleeping in only undergarments or less. She began to touch him softly through the fabric, already feeling how hard he was. "Let's do three more deep breaths, and then we can go see what your mum made for breakfast," Harry indicated, eyes still shut as he sat cross-legged by Mazzy and Mick on the floor, June also sitting on one of the twins' bed.
Before the two parents gave birth to June, Harry insisted that it would be vital to teach their children meditation: a practice that would help them understand and work through their emotions. (y/n) agreed quickly, after hearing many testimonials online of increased mindfulness in small toddlers. Harry tried more often than not to do what he called "Good Morning Heart" exercises before school, but if he was out (y/n) had no problem doing it alone. Today though, the two woke up slightly later than usual and had to split up their duties.
"Okay, good. Keep your eyes closed for now, my bugs. I want you to think about one thing you hope to achieve today. Talk to a new kid maybe, or participate in class. Anything, and take another deep breath as you think of it."
"Dada, done now," Mazzy said, smiling wide at her father. Obviously having meditated her whole life (although they didn't consider it meditation, more so family time) she was used to these exercises and her father leading the group. She didn't know exactly why they did it, but being able to frame your day as positive before it even starts did boost her already positive demeanor.
"Good job baby, so proud of you. Why don't you go run down to see your mama? Not on the stairs though."
"I take her, dada!" Mick excitedly said, unknowingly to others, his positive goal for the day was protecting his 'baby' sister.
Harry smiled, dimples shinning as he saw the two siblings scurry down the hall. "Finished bug?" He asked as June and he were the only two left in the twins' room.
"Yeah, going to ask mom about everything."
"She's ready, and she's so fucking proud of you."
"Thank you, Dad, for everything. I mean it." June leaned over to give him a hug, making her cheek squish against his shoulder. He moved his head over to give her a kiss over her hair, closing his eyes for a second, basking in the life full of love he manifested.
"You didn't hear it from me, but I have an insider report your mum made chocolate pancakes."

"Come here for your kisses, don't try to weasel out of it," (y/n) laughed, putting her arm over the center console to pucker her lips. Mick was first, giving his mom a kiss on the cheek, dimples resembling his father's. Mazzy followed with obtaining their daily kiss before daycare, both stumbling their way out of the car to meet a teacher that helped them inside. "God they're so precious, as are you," (y/n) said, as she softly pinches June's cheek.
"Mooom," June dragged, now in the 'always embarrassed by parents' teenager phase. "Could we talk about Yesterday? You know, with whatever Dad said?”
“Yes! Actually, before we start would it be cool if we play hooky?” There wasn’t a ‘cooler’ parent between the two as they usually were very lenient, but this definitely bought (y/n) some cool parent points.
“What?! Are you sure? Is Dad okay with it?”
“Of course, he encouraged it really. Just a girl's day for us, can go shopping and eat lunch? Whad’ya think babe?”
“Freak it.” Or for translation, June’s way of saying fuck it.

“Can you maybe … tell me how it worked for you? How you … decided?” June said nervously, still nervous about the topic.
“Yeah, of course, baby. It’s a much longer story than your fathers, but I’ll try to condense it:
“At your age, it’s such a period of confusion, and a lot of times your family can agitate that. From seventh grade to about my senior year of high school, I had what I now call my ‘identity crisis. Really, it was rooted in sexual confusion and overall expression but at the time, it was the most dramatic thing happening since the death of mom.”
The two were sitting in the car, having stopped by a local cafe for coffee before sitting in the mall parking lot. It was an odd place, but comfortable given the two were together. (y/n) and Harry prided themselves off of being an open family and sharing details of their past, but this wasn’t something June had heard of in such detail yet. Because of this, she was extremely absorbed in what her mother was saying.
“It’s really funny to me now, because that’s how I deal with things, I guess. But at the moment, I was-“ (y/n) turned her head to look out the window of the car, needing a small moment before recalling the most difficult time of her life. “It’s ridiculous because I know I should say losing mom was painful, but this whole sexuality thing tore me apart in a different way. It was silent, and it was internal. There was no one I could tell, not until my junior year.
“Anyway, going back to the plotline, yes. I did have a close friend I liked. She is mainly the reason I began to question, that and being a little too obsessed with Stevie Nicks. Sidebar: that was one thing that your father and I initially bonded on.” (y/n) finally lifted her head to see her daughter who stared at her with much adoration. Although she was a mother, this specific conversation still made her extremely insecure due to years of denial from family. She could only hope to raise her kids in a contrasting environment. “It was really hard, and I did become depressed and, well, suicidal frankly. Coming from a background like mine, there isn’t a ‘good’ view on anyone who is gay and that combined with my father's overall conserved nature, I was terrified. Then there was the back-and-forth: am I gay? Am I straight? Am I faking it? Does it matter? And the answer, to the last one at least, is yes it does fucking matter.”
“It made you that sad? Trying to figure it out? Dad says I’ll always be the same girl, why was it such a big deal for grandpa?”
“It was hard on me that I didn’t have someone noticing this pain I was going through. I, unfortunately, did not have someone to tell me that it was okay, and it was normal. God, I felt like such a deviant,” (y/n) laughed in an attempt at raising the mood. “When I finally got around to telling your grandpa, he said that mom mentioned it to him once, before she passed. He claims that she said I was going to be different, and he would have to understand that. Mothers always know. And he did, at least, he tried. It was hard to go from always saying future husband to future partner but he got the hang of it. You’re never too old to change your views and grandpa is the best example of that. He’s also very proud of his son-in-law for being so open about everything including sexuality, says that makes our relationship stronger and is the biggest reason he permitted your Dad to propose.”
"I don't even know what to say, that's kind of insane mom."
(y/n) laughed. The pain of her past has subsided over the years, and it was relieving to be able to recount it. "So insane. What else can I say about this? Two aunts were really rude about it and dad got so angry. It made me cry seeing him fight for me. After that, things just all worked out. It's still a hard topic, it took me forever to tell your dad. I thought he was going to be grossed out," (y/n) laughed again out of remembrance, cheeks warming from embarrassment.
"Mom! How could he, I'm sure he was the same as when you two met but dad would beat himself if he ever hurt you. And, that's really nice to hear about grandpa." June was amused over the change of topic and touched her mom was letting this information out.
"No, no. He's always been so attentive and needy," (y/n) giggled, June joining. "You should ask him about it, he's such a sap but that story especially gets a few tears out of him."
"Oh, definitely will do."

After the two had strolled around the mall a bit and found a few new pieces of clothing (what could (y/n) say, she had the tiniest shopping addiction) June opened up the conversation once more.
"So, how long does it take to know know."
"Oh babe, there's no number I can give you that works for everyone. You can't really but a timeline on these things. I will say there are stages, like definitely a questioning period, but you might not spend time experimenting with labels or you will. It's really hard to say. Personally, it was like six-ish years for me?"
They continued to roam the store, June now looking at jeans with embroidered details. "Hm." She looked deep in thought, but not nearly as conflicted as Harry described her to be the night prior. "I'm thinking about it mom, and I might be sure about it."
As (y/n) moved June into her arms into a Styles' classic bear hug, she hummed in joy. "I am so happy to hear that baby. We are so proud of you, and you're still our same baby but you're developing your identity and we're just so proud to be your parents. Please, babe, don't worry about this, we're here always to defend you through anything. Although, half of our friends and family are gay or something too." (y/n) gave her a smirk, both chuckling at the situation. "Now, if we're done here maybe we can stop by your dad's fav strawberry dealer, he sent me a message he was craving some."
June followed her mom out of the store after deciding to buy the jeans, body warming at the thought of having what she considered to be the best parents in the world.

Squishmallows Are Taking Over Over the last few months, bulbous and brightly colored plush toys have sparked a Beanie Babies-style craze among children, teenagers and adults alike. Squishmallows, a line of soft, huggable toys created in 2017, have exploded in popularity during the pandemic, thanks to social media and in particular TikTok (or “SquishTok,” as fans call it). Collectors say the stuffed animals have given them comfort in a painful year, and that hunting for them has fostered a much-needed sense of community during an extended period of isolation. “Even though the craze was coming before the pandemic, it certainly hit a fever pitch in the past year, and this craving for comfort is a big part of it,” said Kelly Deen, senior vice president of marketing at Jazwares, the parent company of Kellytoy, which created Squishmallows. Jazwares said in early March that it has sold more than 73 million toys. (In February 2020, The Toy Book, a trade publication, reported that the company had sold 50 million Squishmallows.) Avid collectors own dozens if not hundreds of them. Melissa Whittaker, a 35-year-old cashier in New Hampshire, has more than 70 Squishmallows, each with a tag stating its name and unique traits. “I love their cute little faces,” she said. “They’re very nice to hug, and you can double them up as pillows.” There are more than 800 Squishmallow characters, and hunting for rare ones has become a popular pastime. Squishmallow hunters post videos from their quests and memes about the frenzy on TikTok (where videos with the hashtag #squishmallows have accrued hundreds of millions of views), Instagram and Reddit. They also trade tips about where to find highly coveted characters. Ilana Wiles, 46, a mother and Instagram influencer in New York City, said that she and her husband often take their 11-year-old daughter, Mazzy, on Squishmallow scavenger hunts around the city and on Long Island. “It’s a fun activity, and they’re not that expensive if you’re buying them at a retail store,” Ms. Wiles said. “It’s a very big reward for not a lot of money.” Most of the toys are priced between $10 and $40, depending on their size. Some that have become hard to find are fetching big prices at resale, though. According to Insider, Squishmallows are being resold for hundreds of dollars on sites like Mercari. “The success of Squishmallows comes from the exclusivity, which helps drive collectibility, said Jonathan Kelly, co-president of Kellytoy. He said that the company is increasing production to keep up with demand. “It’s created a lot of issues finding them in stores,” said Rebecca Brown, 21, a college student in Huntsville, Ala., who has 325 Squishmallows. “There’s a lot of scalpers now that go out and buy an entire store’s stock.” Ms. Brown said Squishmallows have become particularly popular among students during the pandemic. Some position their Squishmallows in frame during their Zoom classes as a conversation starter or to show off their collections. Ms. Brown’s school, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, has its own local Squishmallow Instagram page, where fans can meet online and in-person and connect with each other. Gabrielle Marquez, 18, has about 70 Squishmallows. She keeps the larger ones on her bed and the smaller ones on a bookshelf or tucked away in a toy hammock or bedroom chair. She said that the stuffed animals are especially popular with young people dealing with anxiety or depression. “If you’re feeling down it helps to have something to hug or go out and make yourself happy by buying a new one,” she said. Ms. Marquez has enjoyed “being able to find a community of other people who share the same common interest and talk with them about Squishmallows during lockdown when there’s not that much else we can do. the beautiful part of adulthood is realizing you can cut off contact w ppl who make you feel small. it’s not like grade school where you’re forced to be friends so you have someone to sit with at lunch. some ppl u literally have to say “i don’t want to be around you anymore” if they repeatedly violate your boundaries and safety but demand your company, others u can just distance from without a problem if you barely keep contact anyway or know they’ll refuse to have any sort of communication based on their past actions. it’s also freeing to know you are deserving of people in your life who listen and make you feel heard and welcomed. that should be the bare minimum.

Dahlia
Dahlia is an Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter and the music she creates is a hybrid of trip-hop, R&B and witch house with lyrics which focus on mental health and bizarre life experiences. Alongside Jordan Russell-Hall on production and Jamie Clapton on drums and live arrangements they are influenced by the forward thinking sounds and attitudes of FKA Twigs, SOPHIE and Young Fathers. Dahlia has just released the double single 'Clarity' / 'Slip Slowly' and here is what she had to say on the offering: "I chose to release these two songs together because they are bookends to a time in my life when I was learning how to identify toxic behaviours in others and unlearn them in myself—shout out to the queens of boundaries themselves Florence Given and Michelle Elman for that one. Opening up dialogues about mental health is something that’s very important to me and my music and these songs demonstrate that. I grew up singing Gaelic folk songs. I’ve found this style of singing and the storytelling style of songwriting has woven it’s way into my current way of working. I’m also heavily influenced by late ‘90s and early 2000s sounds and aesthetics like Portishead but also more contemporary sounds like FKA Twigs and Sevdaliza. These two songs are a marriage of all these things with a little Dido drama at the end for good measure." Listen below.
Gillian Stone
Gillian Stone is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist who aims to reconcile tenderness and dark emotion in her work. Her music is an exploration of inner and outer landscapes, turbulent feelings, recovery, and the juxtaposition of femininity and imperfection. She uses vulnerability to create a safe space to explore the dichotomy of beauty and discomfort. Her background in jazz and ethnomusicology has heavily influenced her work. Stone uses an interdisciplinary approach to explore disparate genres in order to produce a singular sonic environment. New song 'Bridges' is the soundscape of recovery. "I wrote this song in 2009 after a summer of self-imposed turbulence," says Gillian. "I don't remember exactly when or how I wrote it, but it stayed with me and became predictive. For over a decade, I've returned to it as a space to safely express shame. Now it's morphing into a reminder, a call for self-temperance. I'm still discovering what it means. 'Bridges' follows a journey of dysregulated emotions exacerbated by alcohol abuse. The e-cello movement is meant to evoke the feeling of losing one's mind. Jenna Kearns is a disabled songwriter from South Wales. She has rheumatoid arthritis and spent a lot of time as a young child in and out of hospital, having treatments, tests and operations. She grew up and has lived in a small town most of her life. "I’ve always had music in my life in one way or another but when I was younger it was musical theatre," says Jenna. "It was while studying at university that my passion for writing songs became my main focus." She worked with a songwriter/producer in Leamington Spa and it was there she wrote her first EP Time Has Passed which was released in July 2016. Last year in 2019 the title track of the EP was used on the TV show Dance Moms. During lockdown since March she has been writing nonstop with different songwriters/producers. "I now have such an incredible team behind me that I’m very excited for the near future as a disabled artist," she says. "Personally for me being a disabled artist in the industry who cannot get out of her wheelchair the biggest challenge has really been access into studios/songwriting spaces. The studio I worked with on my first EP wasn’t accessible however it was a simple fix they had someone build ramps for me to be able to access the parts of the studio needed." 'Thank you' is the latest single from Jenna. Co-written with and produced by hotly tipped singer/songwriter Joe Dolman, 'Thank You' is a new spin on the damaging effects of toxic relationships.  Offering a positive outlook on this negative experience, the song thanks someone for showing their true intentions. "This year during my 8 months of shielding, I've been writing loads, creating an identity and really honing in on my sound and skills. Part of what makes me unique is being a female disabled artist, having a physical disability people don't see that much disability representation within the music industry, physical disabilities even less so. Talking about disabled creatives or in my case disabled artist will push forward barriers, because I  simply do not want to be seen as just the disabled girl, but want to find those who are about inclusivity and talent." Total Brutal is the new indie pop solo project from Los Angeles based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emily Moore. Moore is known as a professional touring musician, having shared the stage with the likes of Grammy award-winning band FUN, Børns, Ella Vos, X Ambassadors and many more. With the goal of spreading positivity and self-empowerment, Total Brutal has an ethos of standing up for yourself in order to be heard and seen, facing fears head on and being comfortable in your own skin. Hailing from The Ganaraska Forest in Southern Ontario, horse trainer turned singer-songwriter, Kate Boothman, emerges with her forthcoming sophomore record, My Next Mistake this fall. Recorded at producer, Thomas Knox D’Arcy’s, Taurus Recording, over 2 snowy weeks in January, 2019, Kate and Thom made what they referred to in the studio as a “massage rock” record. Writing as they went, Kate and Thom’s life-long friendship enabled them to tuck into their shadows. This provided them with instant fodder for the moody narrative that Kate delivers as part prayer, part animal, and entirely her own. This sits nicely against the sweeping strings, heavy bass, twangy guitars, organ swells and sometimes thunderous drums that make the trippy washed out folk scape reminiscent of something Lee Hazelwood would have dreamed up with the help of Mazzy Star. Latest single '17' "is one of those songs that emerged fully formed," says Kate. "It's about that confidence and arrogance that comes with being a spicy youth, and then all of a sudden you're an adult and you realize you knew nothing. You look back and can't help but examine everything you've learned and lost. I wrote '17' after a particularly heavy day during a particularly heavy time in my life. New York City Government Is Getting Involved With The Fashion Industry’s Race Problem

It’s no secret that the fashion industry — despite some attempts at progress — is still often quite insensitive about race. While brands like Gucci, Dior, and Prada have apologised for recent offenses on social media and declared their intentions to prioritise diversity, the New York City Commission on Human Rights has now officially stepped in to address recent racist incidents, according to a new report by Vanessa Friedman in The New York Times.
Back in 2018, Prada put Pradamalia figurines — monkeys that looked like blackface — on display in its downtown New York store. At the time, Chinyere Ezie, a civil rights lawyer, posted a picture on Twitter of the figures, writing on Facebook, “I don’t make a lot of public posts, but right now I’m shaking with anger.” Following that, the commission sent Prada a cease and desist letter, while Ezie filed a formal complaint with the commission in January 2019. Ezie reportedly started having “positive” conversations with the brand that month, and by February, Prada had announced its Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, chaired by the director Ava DuVernay and the artist Theaster Gates. Ezie also met with the company’s chairman Carlo Mazzi, who, she said, “Confirmed something I had suspected: There were no black employees working at Prada headquarters at all” during the time of the Pradamalia incident.
According to The New York Times, the commission which oversees human rights laws in regards to housing, retail establishments, has officially reached a settlement with Prada, signing a deal on February 4, 2020. “Prada denied any discrimination but has committed to internal re-education, engaging in financial and employment outreach with minority communities, and submitting to external monitoring of its progress for the next two years,” The Times reported. 
With the new commission agreement, The Times reports that Prada will hold sensitivity training, including “racial equity training,” for all New York employees and executives in Milan. And this includes Miuccia Prada. Following the training, the outlet says the general counsel of Prada will report back to the commission on the employee’s compliance. Under the agreement, the luxury fashion brand will hire a diversity and inclusion officer, and candidates will need to be approved by the commission. Responsibilities will include “reviewing Prada’s designs before they are sold, advertised or promoted in any way in the United States.” Moreover, the brand’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council will be required to continue for at least six years. Nearly every six months for the next two years, Prada will report the company’s progress to the commission. 
The Times pointed out that many of these conditions reflect commitments Gucci has already announced, including the creation of scholarships and guarantees to diversify its design and executive team, while also reporting that Gucci declined to comment on the status of its discussions with the commission, though it did not deny the conversations were taking place.
“I don’t know that we realised previously so many major fashion houses had this ignorance of the history of racism in this country,” Sapna V. Raj, the deputy commissioner of the law enforcement bureau of the commission, who has been overseeing the negotiations with the fashion companies, told The Times. “We hope companies realise they need to be very careful about how they market and advertise — that they need to have a larger social and cultural consciousness.”
It is reportedly uncharted territory for the commission to focus its efforts on the fashion industry’s products and imagery, marking the dawn of a new era of corporate accountability. “This sounds to me like the law being stretched in a new direction that is based on a more expansive and scientifically accurate — according to social science research — interpretation of how racism operates in current society,” Ellen Berrey, an associate professor in the sociology department at the University of Toronto, and the co-author of “Rights on Trial: How Workplace Discrimination Law Perpetuates Inequality” expressed to the Times. “It indicates an understanding that one of the most powerful mediums for communicating racism is through cultural imagery.”
While these efforts are long overdue, with Prada being a major fashion leader it’s only a matter of time before more companies follow suit.

Anonymous: Is there some cap on how many slavers and slaves one can have? I've had 20/20 cap on both Salve and Slavers for months now.
You’re right it is currently capped at 20/20. It used to be higher but I got a lot of complaints that it was unmanageable and confusing and so lowered it to that. 
I do have stuff planned to make larger encampments more manageable with both ways to parcel off a bunch of slavers and slaves at once to get an ongoing bonus with the slave farms, slave mines and slave temples currently planned and I’m sure there will be others. I’m also looking to add options so you can choose to have slavers to take some initiative while idle so you don’t have to manage them if you don’t want to.

That’s an odd one. Which assignment was that from? Newslave is only on there for the first day normally so you have a chance to do something with them before the slavers have a chance at them. What makes it odder is some how it’s missing the check to remove it everyday so I’m not at all sure what is going on there.

It’s not, I decided to update the theme. Main reason was I was fed up with not being able to see tags on my posts, and also people complained they were missing updates if I did more than one on the same day so it should be less likely for that to happen with the new setup. 
I will happily admit I’m not the most well versed with tumblr so if anyone has suggestions for a better theme I’ll absolutely try them out.

Absolutely! There’s a bunch more I want to do it with Heal Slut and Bimbo being two of the biggies, and yeah stuff like Anal Training will definitely be a thing. I’m also going to do Advanced Dominance Training soonish which will be a step to turning a slave into a slaver.

The other main one is the various sources of corruption. It’ll also be doable with potions when I add them. There’s an assignment or two that does it and when you can go on them that will also be an option. 
Breast size as they get bigger can lead to the removal of traits like strong and agile and gain traits like clumsy. They increase slave value and also make it more likely they’ll be tit fucked which is less damaging in terms of condition. There’s an assignment coming next update which checks on size for success. 
Anonymous: Slave - Mazzy - Neko Female | I for some reason cannot train her in anything, the whole option of training her is gone. Is it supposed to be so?
Theoretically possible based on slave over use. Is there anything about it in her examine?
Anonymous: I find it very frustrating that when I get a "critical success" when I investigate the cost, I still lose one of my slavers. Also, I can't seem to give the "ensnared rose lady" the slave she ordered - even after I bring the slave with me I always return with the slave.
It is only that assignment where it can happen on due to the special assignment it unlocks and it’s by no means guaranteed that you will lose someone when it happens so I think it’s okay. Okay there is one other assignment that will remove someone on a crit but that’s as blatant as possible that you’re only doing it to fuck over that slaver as hard as possible. 
What might help is there’s an assignment next update which has a potential outcome linked to the caves so there’s more of a warning it might be more dangerous than you’d originally expect. 
Yeah there’s some issues with it which I’m hoping to resolve for the next update.

Anonymous: Encampment Positions Second-in-Command: Helen Steellack | She changed names quite a while back after one of her assignments I sent her on, she's now named Riya in the Slaver roster, but still retains her given name in the Encampment Status section, while 2 others have had their names updated after the their name changes. It's worth to mention Helen/Riya is the only one assigned to not have been re-assigned from her post after a name change.
Ahhh I thought originally this was more messed up than I thought but it’s not as bad as all that. Basically when the name is updating the role list isn’t. That is a bugger as that’s totally an oversight on my part but shouldn’t be too bad to put a check into fix.

JUST LIKE HONEY (US): Bittersweetness and Light
Bittersweet melancholy drenched in voluptuous feedback: JUST LIKE HONEY's sound encompasses many inspirations ranging from Dream Pop to Alternative Rock and even a tad of Indie Folk.
The band has developed its own unique style of combining rumbling distortion, pounding rhythms, heavenly harmonies and eclectic songwriting into a sensual amalgamation of shimmering soundscapes.

How did you meet?
Patrick had envisioned the band long before its actual founding. The basic setup was crystal clear in his mind, however the individual pieces were missing and came together organically.
The only obvious pick was Patrick’s half-brother Steve on drums, whom Patrick had already been playing with in a band named Theme Park Rangers despite having been raised in separate families. The band of brothers provided the musical foundation, but the long sought-after lead vocalist was still out of sight.
Bianca’s addition was a kiss of destiny so to speak as she and Patrick had met coincidentally at the 2014 Glastonbury (UK) festival. There is some disagreement over what exact band they were watching, Patrick maintains it was Billy Bragg, but of course we’ll give it to Bianca who is positive it was Temples playing the John Peel Stage. It was that fateful encounter that sparked the eventual founding of Just JUST LIKE HONEY.
After some jam sessions with other musicians in early 2015, Darlene finally joined the band as the main lead singer and second guitarist. All had gelled together at last.
How did you come up with your name?
Is a common occurrence that a name or word pops into our collective minds, it could be a song or album title or some random piece of inspiration, and it tends to stick with all of us straight away, without the need for discussing or elaborating any further. Patrick and Bianca simultaneously said “Just Like Honey” at our first rehearsal and that was the end of that discussion right there.
Nobody ever looked back since. Unlike most bands that go through foot-long lists with loads of potential names of varying degrees of funniness or inspiration we were all on board with our first inspiration 100%.
The name may, of course, be seen as a hat-tip to The Jesus And Mary Chain. It might also refer to the character of our music, which is mostly sweet, despite the odd guitar noise. And yes, we are all very aware of the glaring and ubiquitous sexual connotation.
What is your music about?
All JUST LIKE HONEY does is about creating good songs. To us, songs are more important than the band itself. A good song should tell a story but at the same time not provide an easy giveaway of its meaning. A good song does not need a wall of sound to hide behind, although we quite often produce a huge wall of sound. That’s because we love noise.
What are your goals as an artist artistically/commercially?
Individual freedom and creating art are more important to us than being commercially successful. JUST LIKE HONEY will never change its sound or attitude in order to become more successful. If we stop being noisy for a moment that’s only because we want to assure ourselves whether our songs function without the noise. That moment led to the “Wood Room Sessions”.
Although we are not political artists in the narrower sense, we openly oppose the negative effects platform capitalism as for the music industry or what’s left of that industry respectively.
Today, streaming platforms like “Spotify” are exploiting the work of artists. We hate them. We are, of course, aware of the fact that making music as a profession does require the existence of a free market and your own ability to make use of the machine.
What are you trying to avoid as a band?
Rock music clichés, power chords, blues scale guitar solos. Well, obviously.
Why do you make the music you make? Is it in you? Is it your environment?
We make the music we love. It’s that simple. We can’t think of doing anything else.
What inspire you for the music or for the Lyrics?
Our songs are like a little window into Patrick’s soul because he is our songwriter. Most songs are based on true stories or occurrences, some reflect strokes of fate. e.g., the passing of a close friend, some deal with issues of the western society (e.g. the song “Goddess”), missing people, false prophets and lost memories (e.g. “Out In the Storm” and “Shorelines”), and others ponder on the odd everyday issue (e.g. “Velvet Skies”).
Those songs aren’t essays in the classical sense as they always leave wide room for interpretation, a dynamic that is further fueled by the use of a writing method called “écriture automatique” in French. It was invented by the French surrealist André Breton and may be loosely translated as “spirit writing”.
Interestingly enough we don’t have any real love songs. All attempts to write a love song ended up in tracks like “I Don’t Like The Girl I Am” or “The Strangest Boy” or “Heart Has No Place”. Those tracks are definitely not love songs in the classical sense although they were meant to be exactly that. It’s interesting because there is so much love in our life and yet it doesn’t quite find its way into our music, at least not in an obvious way.
Tell us what you are looking when trying to achieve your sounds. Do you experiment a lot or have a clear idea of what you want?
Although the sound was quite clear in Patrick’s mind even before JUST LIKE HONEY was founded, we actually do experiment a lot these days, taking all the different styles into consideration which make our palette of sound.
How about including a slide guitar solo where you wouldn’t expect it? Wow about having a reverse reverb on a chorus? We use a lot of different tunings on our guitars as well, a fact which makes us constantly inventing new ways of playing chords.
We have been jamming and improvising a lot recently. However, when developing new songs, it feels as if the songs themselves take a decision and guide us through the creative process.
Oddly enough more songs than ever have decided to fall on the noisy side recently. We therefore can’t help but to think we’re on the way of becoming a noisier band. It’s an interesting development, especially since it seems to be happening organically rather than as a result of a conscious decision.
Explain your songwriting process.
Patrick usually comes up with the basic song ideas, using an acoustic guitar for a first draft version. Chords, melodies and lyrics are added in Patrick’s studio somewhat simultaneously, feeding off each other in the creative process, even though the music is definitely exerting a stronger influence on the lyrics rather than the other way around.
Once this first step is completed Patrick pitches the song to the band in a second step, where a lot of refinement is added and everybody gets to chip in. In a third step Darlene and Patrick enhance the guitar tracks, developing licks and hooks to support the vocal melody.
We don’t look at one guitar to be the lead, both guitars are on equal footing and merge into the overall harmony. Quite often, Bianca’s bass is treated as the third guitar.
Describe your palette of sound.
A mixture of Alternative Rock, Post Rock and Dream Pop with a tad of American Folk, typically served with a lot of sweet guitar feedback.
Who would you want as a dream producer, and why?
We are actually already working with our dream producer, i.e. Patrick’s wife Karin Le Mar. Being an awesome musician herself, she is constantly challenging us. Beyond Karin, we imagine that working with Andy Bell of the British band “Ride” as a producer would be a dream come true.
If you could guest on someone else’s album, who would it be and why? What would you play?
We’ve been asked that question several times recently. The answer is “Ride” again. We admire their work. Spending time with the four of them in the recording studio would definitely boost our songwriting skills.
Interestingly enough both bands seem to regard the guitars and the vocals as equal instruments. We love that thought. If we had a time machine (the DeLorean type of time machine, of course) we would consider to meet “The Byrds” in the studio for similar reasons. [Editor’s note: some day that the Byrds’ ‘8 miles high’ may be the first DreamGaze song)
What musical skills would you like to acquire or get better at?
Just like everybody else, we are trying to get better every day. There is no specific skill, though, which we’d like to acquire.
Which other musician/artist would you date?
Ha-ha, sweet question! That would be Amelia Murray. She’d have a date with the four of us.
Is there a band that if they didn’t exist you wouldn’t be making the music you make?
In terms of an absolute condition we would probably not make music at all without the DIY attitude of Post-Punk. This is more about that “everyone can be an artist” attitude, of course, not about the sound in specific. As for the sound, we are obviously influenced by the 90s bands we love, e.g. Slowdive, The House of Love, Ride, The Charlatans, Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500, Codeine and also some bands of the late 60s. Also, there is a lot of The Byrds in our music. We are not intending to sound like any other band. We are actually unique. There, we said it.
You are from Canada, Germany and the USA, what are the advantages and inconvenient?
We don’t know. Each of us has been living in many different places in “the west” and basically it’s nice everywhere.
What are some places around the world that you hope to play with your band?
We’d love to travel Korea and Japan. We do have a lot of fans there for whatever reason. Also, Bianca speaks Korean, of course, and that could be of some help.
When is the next album/EP due?
We are about to release the “Show Lane EP” on SHORE DIVE RECORDS in November 2019. Nico Beatastic of SHORE DIVE RECORDS does an awesome job promoting the artists on his label.
Also, we love his label policy. All great British records labels as Factory, Creation or Sarah did have a certain sound and you knew what to expect to a certain extent. By the way, we have been back in the studio since early October, working on a bunch new songs. We’re in the flow right now like never before.
These new songs may become a regular album in 2020. Or even two regular albums. Who knows?

Please listen to Beach Bunny, Fazerdaze, Mandolin Orange and to our label mates Primitive Heart and Swimming Pool! You may be surprised to find Mandolin Orange on our list but without their inspiration we would not have recorded the “Wood Room Sessions”. We love American Folk as much as we love Indie Pop. Again, it’s all about songs.

We will become comic book characters soon, isn’t that sweet? That’s because a friend of us, Kelci Crawford, is creating a comic book which deals with JUST LIKE HONEY.

Jesus DeAcido As a kid I was a little head banger (MC5 to Black Sabbath, etc) but this one time I won two tickets to a Temptations/Supremes concert (musta been '72 0r '73) the ONLY reason I went was this song! I love this song! Anyways, The Supremes were NOT good on my ears, but I loved the entire Temptations set! I was hooked! A school friend and I were the ONLY Whites in the place, BTW (that I could see, at least) and EVERY Brutha and Sista was so nice to us. I guess they figured we were "good ones". (we were, of course) ;) One funny situation was when two Bros in full Pimp Regalia were "arguing" about who was prettier (better dressed). One was in all white, with white fringe trim, white bowler hat. Even a white cane. The other guy was in different shades of purple with a purple cowboy hat and purple feathers on top. My friend and I needed to get by them to get to our seating entrance so I politely said "Excuse me!". The guy in white said "Of course, my little brother!" so I thank him. And then, while passing, I turned and exclaimed to the crowd assembled "The guy in white is prettier!". They all bust out laughing, and the guy in white gave me a fist bump. Fun time! In more ways than one. ------------------ Jesus DeAcido I'd say that it's kinda dumb either way. Unless there is some actual redeeming value to doing it, which would be a rather hard hurdle. BUT it could happen. As for "(it's) not meant to make either look lesser than", I'd have to point to the fact that such depictions usually include actions or affects that was parodies of the race they are depicting. For instance, the Black actors made up as White Girls did exaggerated depictions of both Women AND Whites. Which was pretty bad. The sin, IMO, is that it wasn't funny. Robert Downey Jr. playing the White guy pretending to be Black was doing much negative Black stereotypes as well. That movie was funny though. ;) And there was some modicum of a point to it. L.O. doing Othello held no innately racist stereotypes or exaggerations. And the Black Face is but topical. The character is a Moor. I think it's, as always, the INTENT mixed with actions. I'm sure that you are bringing this up due to Gov. Northam being called upon to resign (I apologize if that isn't the case). Well, I believe that that IS an overreaction. The year AFTER Northam did that the movie Soul Man came out! (illustrating the mindset of the time) And anyone remember Gene Wilder in Silver Streak? Now THAT was pretty bad, but it wasn't back then! (well, maybe SOMEONE complained, but I never saw it) Anyways, and again, I believe it's all about intent AND actions. And the intent may be right, but the actions may not be. We should just stop it. We have evolved. For if doing it hurts anyone...that's reason enough to not do it. And it's not necessary. (although his waffling about the issue is pretty fucked up) I believe people should be able to do whatever they fuckin' want, in the case of Free Speech, even if it's disgusting and/or stupid. BUT if ya Speak Freely, albeit abhorrently, expect others to return fire, VERBALLY. For that's the way it should work. Oh, and Political Correctness is NOT an exclusively Liberal attribute, of course. Conservatives have their own versions. Try burning your OWN American Flag, or say something pro-Socialism, or take a knee, or protest Police abuse. They get as warped as any tree-hugger...and they'll often kill ya for it!
