Bay turtles getting a surprise bouquet of their favorite flowers for the first time? (Don’t ask how reader knows, they got that info from a certain rat)

whoops you tapped into an interest of mine and i just spent an hour and a half solidifying my headcanons for their favorite flowers

anyway this is amazing anon-chan i love love love flowers and giving them and these boys deserve so many flowers

(just so you know, these blurbs take place pre-relationship, but like barely)

Leonardo

You immediately resolve to do this as often as possible when you see the look on Leo's face. He reaches out and gently fingers one of the blood red petals of the dahlias you're offering him. "These for me?" His voice is wondering, causing an ache deep in your chest. You push them a bit closer to him with a soft smile.

His hand cups yours as he pulls them (and you) closer to him. He buries his face in the flowers for a moment. When he lifts his head, you are arrested by the intense expression on his face. In the same way he gently touched the dahlia petal, Leo gently touches your face, cups your cheek. "Thank you," he breathes.

Raphael

Raph huffs and squints at you suspiciously. "This some kinda joke?" You roll your eyes and push the pink irises into his plastron. When you go to let go of the bouquet, however, his hand comes up and traps yours with the flowers against him. He looks down at the flowers and breathes in deeply. You can't smell much from the delicate flowers, but you suppose that he can.

He looks back up at you and tilts his head, contemplative. Your lips twitch at how cute the motion is, and his gaze zeroes in on the movement. You feel Raph's fingers tighten around yours before he deliberately relaxes them. A rare bashful smile spreads across his face as he meets your eyes once more. "Thanks, doll."

Donatello

"Ah, celosia! These are my favorite! How did you know?" Donnie gives a pleased chirp as he studies the blooms you shove into his face.

You smirk as you press the bouquet into his hands. "Wouldn't you like to know."

He turns his chair around, gaze still on the flowers, and stands almost uncomfortably in your space. You hold your ground. His eyes flick up to yours, and a small, smug smile spreads across his face. He shuffles the tiniest bit closer to you. You gulp but continue to hold your ground. "Oh," Donnie begins in a low, silken voice, "I would like to know. And we both know that I will find out. Don't we?" He steps back and turns to look for a vase. "Thank you for the flowers," he throws over his shoulder towards your trembling form, "they're very nice!"

Michelangelo

Not even the stars in the sky can match the sparkle in Mikey's eyes. "You got these for me?" You grin as you present the marigolds to him with a little 'ta da!'. The both of you start to laugh as he picks you up and twirls you around, flowers and all. When he sets you down, your smile gets small and shy as you hand the marigolds to him.

He takes them reverently. Then he leans forward and kisses your cheek. He leans back, takes in your reaction, and kisses the other cheek, lingering just a little longer. When Mikey pulls back the second time, he hovers for just a moment over your lips before pulling back. You feel the hand that is not holding the flowers brush against your own. "Thank you sooooo much angel! Marigolds are my favorite!"

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is that small moment in “Air Turtle” where immediately after the Daves lose yet another game, Leo says how sorry he is and how he’s doing his best as the mascot. This moment is so short but it’s honestly jam-packed with a whole heap of characterization.

His need to apologize for things clearly not his fault - especially when it feels like he messes up the job he was given despite doing the best he can (the phrase “it’s not about you” takes a new meaning when this is one of the lessons to be learned from that - that he is not always solely responsible for things going wrong), his need to save face and make a connection with an older adult man in his life (something he consistently does throughout the series - he’s got a few daddy issues, always collecting potential father figures, it’s no wonder he jumps at the bit to keep rapport), and the way he sounds and looks and the words he chooses really pushes how he is just a kid (“Mr. the Dunk, I’m so sorry”).

Like I know it’s a one off moment that doesn’t truly mean much, but when put against the rest of the series it works really well with the rest of Leo’s established character and helps in solidifying later concepts as well.

It was running. It was running from him. Surging forward, he snagged the shadow of his prey, and slowly crawled up, sliding up a leg, up a strangehardback and finally, into the back of the neck.

Mikey suddenly stopped, shuddering, his breath hitching loudly. Leonardo immediately stopped and looked back. "Mikey? Mike what's wrong?" He questioned, concerned his feeling had been right.

"N-Nothing." Michelangelo said after a pause. "I just got real cold for a second." He laughed. "It's gone now."

My angst gremlin heart was appeased by this fic, lol. But also! I was cooing over all the comfort Mikey got while he was having a Bad Time (tm). ALSO, please don't tag this as ship in anyway. That's insta-block behavior.

so me n sibling finished rise rewatch with all the newfound turtle lore after our big tmnt media binge......... many feelings i wanna get out

firstable........ how anyone watched this show and didnt think those were the ninja turtles in purest form i will never understand. like you cannot deny any of these characters being the same characters but with new roles to fill. raph is the protector. mikey is the heart. leo is the strategist. donnie is the brain. it just created a new dynamic, but never strayed very far from what came before

second....... take the ninja turtles and just hammer home a story about generational trauma and healing from it, giving them strength from how much they love and trust each other.... you break my heart wide open i am crying

to me they are the best amalgamation of all the turtles who came before them like: silly and sweet like 87, they have this close familial understanding unconditional love like 03, and this overarching story of bringing a family back together like 12

started this watch of all turtle media because rise on its own felt so good, but having gone back and seen all the other pieces i was missing makes me appreciate what it was doing more, because i felt every other series and movie in this one in spirit, but with the ideals of the modern cartoon saying: hey kids, its okay to ask for help, youre not alone, your feelings matter, and the people around you should support you

and on top of that, obviously the most visually stunning version to date, utilizing years of lessons learned from western cartoons and anime, meshing together in breathtaking action, but also having the most hilariously snappy comedic animation that uses what seem like cheap movements of a frame to make every line of dialogue all the more hysterical, and having these very expressive characters be able to be very subtle in the touching emotional moments.

i genuinely love this show so much and i feel really stupid for not having watched it sooner, and the fact it is the shortest of all the shows that never got the chance to finish its story makes me so sad. but at least what story it did get to tell was beautiful.

I headcanon Don is the only one raph told about his love for knitting because he felt like Mikey and Leo would make fun of him. They won’t of course but it’s how he feels.

In particular, I feel that Don is the most approachable for all the 2003 bros and their secrets, honestly. What I love about him is how kind he is portrayed in the show, and overall gentle and understanding?

You can really see why in SAINW the others broke away from each other. In many cases (and still in 2003), Mikey is the heart and soul of the group, sure, but Donny (in 2003 at least) has that kindness and sympathy that is also very much needed not as a team, but as a family and brother. I personally headcanon that Don actually knows a lot of secrets about the others (to a lesser extent perhaps Mikey - another hc that I shall share another time…or in an upcoming fic, perhaps? Hmm…) because Don is just so unexplainably approachable, and guaranteed to have a sympathy that the others don’t have.

Imagine that disappearing one day. Not only would this be painful, but almost like a betrayal.

SAINW was rough, man. I could write essays on that thing fr.

Do yall know why I love Rise of the TMNT Raph so much?

I love his characterization in the show because he doesn't have the anger he has in the earlier shows. Yes, it's still there but it is more controlled and better managed. It shifted and turned into something positive. And I, as a person who has gone through anger issues and has a better control over them, freaking love that. Don't get me wrong, I still love the other Raphs (2007 is my favorite) but this Raph is a breath of fresh air.

He is passionate, impulsive, and kind. He loves and cares for his family, and he does it in a way that is so Raphael. He shows them how much he loves and cares for them by trusting them and protecting them when they need it. Like when he saved Leo from falling. Like when he saved Mikey and Donnie in the movie. He knows he can't protect them forever and has come to terms with it. But he will be there for them if they need him. He is everything that Raph is supposed to be. He's the protector.

But he's not the leader.

He only took that responsibility because his little brothers weren't ready for that or didn't want it. And as the big brother he let it fall on him. Don't get me wrong, he absolutely does his best to lead them, but it's hard. The instinctive urge to protect them sometimes out weighs the duty to lead them. If anything happened to them on his watch, he wouldn't forgive himself. He could be close to death, but as long as his brothers are safe then he is okay. Like how in the movie he gives Leo his escape pod and let's himself be captured. Raph isn't angry at Leo for grabbing the key, he's panicking. His baby brother is about to get killed, and there's nothing to protect him.

Except for Raph.

Raph will be there to shield him. It doesn't matter what happens to him, as long as Leo gets out, then he will be alright.

That's why I love this characterization. He is selfless. He is impulsive. He is passionate. And he is the protector.

And I love it.
