"𝐢'𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮."
mikey sano x fem!reader - angst/hurt/comfort (1.2k+)
request: hihi! I love your writing it's so nice I was wondering if you could do a drabble for bonten!mikey x fem reader where they're already together and the reader comforts her poor boyfriend because he's having a rough night because he's remembering all his friends and family he lost and is thinking how useless he is
a/n/cw: ok hear me out.. i made him your fiancé because IT JUST FITS RIGHT MIKEY DESERVES TO BE HAPPY !! i gotta say, this piece is quite angsty, but trust me when i say reader will always be there for mikey <3 cw: this post contains huge spoilers from the tokyo revengers manga: tenjiku arc and forward
Tumblr media
red wine sloshes against itself in your glass, as you swivel your wrist only slightly. you watch the liquid ripple, before taking another sip with a glance at the clock.
12:18 AM, it read. with every passing minute, you waitied patiently for your fiancé to walk through the front foyer. mikey was a busy man; he worked long hours and ensured everything at work was in-order before leaving. vice versa, you made sure to keep things tidy and just-right at home; clean table tops, a warm dinner, and the scent of mikey's favourite candle wafting through the air.
with your own job taking up many hours of your day, it was sometimes tough to maintain the perfect home that mikey bought for the two of you. but as you glanced around the living room, with its pristine white chairs, lush houseplants, and welcoming fireplace—you settled with the fact that the two of you, were doing an amazing job together.
because that's how it's always been: you and mikey, together.
the shut of a door catches you from further thoughts, and the quiet steps of mikey's oxfords sound louder against the cool tile floor. you set your glass on the small table beside you with a relieved smile, before making your way to him while you adjust your silk robe.
he's in the middle of removing his jacket, then his shoes when he hears your sweet voice call for him from the kitchen just behind the wall he faces. "manjiro—welcome home, sweetie."
he rounds the corner, smiling gently with worn eyes when they land on you. he studies you; the way your robe drapes itself perfectly over the body he's grown to love so much. your hair isn't styled, instead left in its natural state. your eyes are excited to see him, but he knows you're sleepy. mikey can feel his façade halt upon seeing you.
"i'm home, darling. have you been up long?" he steps closer, indulging himself into your open arms. his body visibly crumples under your hold, and you hold back your next words. meticulously, you take notice of the way mikey clings onto you a little more tighter than usual, his fingers tense and unwilling to let go. his arms squeeze you closer into him, and he hides his face into the crook of your neck.
"manjiro? is everything okay, my love?" you mutter, craning your head to kiss the crown of his head on instinct. the silver hairs tickle your neck at the touch. he begins to rub your back in small motions, and you can hear a quiet sniffle in response. at that, you begin to worry, and gently coax mikey to face you. you knew something was wrong.
when he follows, mikey makes no attempt to loosen his grip on you. his hollowed eyes stare at you with something you don't often see in them: fear.
reading mikey like an open book was second nature to you, whether through his body language or the stories his eyes tell, you knew it all. and with the way his irises are blown with complete sadness and guilt, staring at you with so much emotion, you felt your heart crumple.
"oh manjiro," you caress his cheek, pulling him back into your body. "talk to me, please tell me what's on your mind." you prompt, always urging him to speak on his feelings. the mikey you knew had a habit of bottling it all inside. but never would you dream of letting mikey fight this battle on his own.
the comforting tone of your voice pulls at his heartstrings; your warmth spreading all over his body, your fingers treading lightly through his hair. another sniffle escapes his body, and it's then he realizes tears are dripping down onto your now-stained robe.
mikey rubs at his eyes, and a dense sigh claws its way out. "... i can't do anything right," he starts, eyes trained on your shoulder and voice barely above a whisper. if there were anyone else present, you might've not been able to hear him. "everyone i love—" he stops to focus on you, "—gets into danger, because of me." his throat clogs up as another tear runs its course down his pale skin. you wipe it away with your thumb, a gnawing feeling growing in the pit of your chest. nontheless, you nod and encourage him to continue.
"because of my life, and the things that i do, i-i put the ones i love the most in danger," mikey's tears continue to flow, his mouth creased in a sorrowful grimace as he remembers the people he's lost. and the people he might lose.
"baji," your lips tremble at the mention of his childhood friend, "my baby sister, emma. god, i'm so fucking useless! i'm never enough to protect everyone!" mikey cries, head dropping down onto your shoulder in defeat, allowing for the overwhelming emotions to rack over his body. his lungs tense and release with sorrowful sobs, making mikey feel like a little boy in your arms.
you hush him tenderly, rubbing his back in consoling circles, but you can't help the tremble of your hands. you fail to control the tears of your own that have surfaced and fallen, so you say what you truly mean from the bottom of your heart and soul: "manjiro, what you've gone through in your life is horrible, it is far too much hurt for one to handle. i know, baby, i know that it hurts," the words continue to spill out your mouth, "but what you've gone through is not your fault, and it never will be." you sternly state, fingers still threaded in his hair.
you crane your neck to peer at him; his eyes are swollen and red, looking back at you before seeing your own tears. he reaches up to wipe at them, chewing his lip sullenly at making you cry. "these thoughts are hurting you, manjiro. i hate to see you hurt yourself like this," you sniffle, smiling hopefully from your next words: "i'll protect you."
mikey's eyes fill with another emotion at that: was it hope? or love? you'll protect him?
a small glimmer dusts his vacant eyes at the thought—for his whole life, mikey has always been the protector, not the protected.
"i'll protect you," you repeat, "from anything or anyone that makes you feel how you do right now." you lean into to peck his forehead. "and if that person is you, then i'll always be here to tell you otherwise—you're the love of my life manjiro, i am not going to leave you. not now, not ever, okay?" you kiss his head once more, and your tears have finally stilled. your assured eyes stare at him in wait.
mikey feels his heartbeat slow at your words. they seap into his brain and carry their love all the way through his blood, and into his heart. the steady pound of his chest tells him to slows his breathing, to listen to the sounds of your heart by his ear, to listen to the sounds of you. 'she's my finacée', he reminds himself. his finacée who is breathing, in the flesh,—holding, kissing, touching, loving him. 'and she'll be the one to protect me.'
mikey smiles at you for the first time that night. and you smile back.
he exhales a sigh; this time it's light and full of solace. he spares a glance at the time: 12:45 AM. standing in the middle of the night, the two of you find one another clung in a boundless embrace—holding what you each find most dear: each other.

not delusional sano brothers & haitani brothers.
-> haikyuu & jujutsu kaisen version
Tumblr media
shinichiro sano.
“shin,” a little girl calls for her brother. curious hands safely holding shinchiro's phone as she runs through the shop to find her brother. reaching her destination, emma stands on the tip of her toes, holding out his phone up to his face, “who's this girl?”
shoving his cigarette down into the ashtray, shinichiro lifts emma onto his hip. he squints at the phone's screen before looking back at his eight year old sister with a smile, “curious?”
“mhm!”
emma sways her head side to side waiting for an answer from him. shinichiro takes his phone from her, placing it into his pocket while he walks out from his shop and to the house.
“she's my girlfriend.”
“GIRLFRIEND!?”
emma slaps both hands on her mouth, wide eyes looking at her brother in genuine shock. embarrassment settles in shinichiro, he did not need his little sister to shout so loudly. was it really that shocking!? he sets her down the moment he stepped into their home, letting out an airy laugh as he smoothens emma's skirt, “yes, i'm not lying.”
emma's face merges into another shocked expression, her eyebrows raised and her lips curved into an ‘O’. nodding twice emma runs off into the house, whisper-yelling “mikey! mikey!” she's probably going to tell him the jaw-dropping news.
manjiro sano.
draken's suspicious. mikey's been awfully quiet and smiles to himself a lot. raising an eyebrow, draken takes another sip of his drink, is he going crazy? he judges mikey again. for the fifth time this day, mikey's giggled and smiled to himself like a little girl thinking about her celebrity crush.
“what the hell is going on with you?!” draken questions, he takes hold of a random fork from the table, pointing it at mikey demanding an answer.
“say, ‘ken,” mikey speaks, resting both elbows on and clasping his fingers together, he leans in closer before continuing, “what would you do if you got a girlfriend?”
draken, though holding a normal expression, is currently surprised. what does mikey mean? did mikey score a girl? is he truly going insane? questions that'll never find their answers. opening his mouth to answer, draken immediately closes it—he has to think about his answer precisely.
“i'd probably want to show her off? why the fuck are you asking me this!?”
“perfect answer because you see,” mikey stops himself, he leans over the table to whisper in draken's ear, “I GOT A GIRL!” he shouts and receives a slap on the head.
“first of all, never do that again.” draken rubs his ear, rolling his eyes as he shoos mikey away.
“secondly, are your impulses getting worse? need me to get you your comfort snack?” draken genuinely questions. he thinks mikey's gone insane.
“...don't talk to me.” slapping his palms on the table, mikey dramatically slings his bag on his shoulder walking out the shop with fake tears.
ran haitani.
rindou opens the door after three knocks. he looks at you up and down for five seconds before concluding that you got the wrong house. so what does he do? he closes the door but luckily, ran saw you and held the door open.
“don't lock my girl out, rin.”
“sorry, my bad—YOUR GIRL!?”
rindou stops from walking back to his room and spins around immediately. he points at ran before pointing at you, clearly he's confused. from what rindou remembers, ran's a loser that sweet talks but never manages to get past that, so what does he mean by “my girl”?!
you stand there awkwardly while the two brothers bicker. ran's offended and rindou's just rindou. looking at the two brothers, you decide to stop them and introduce yourself.
“hello, i'm y/n.”
“hi, i'm rindou. anyways, RAN.”
he shouts ran's name, demanding further explaination. and what does ran do? shuffle past rindou while pulling you your wrist. he pulls you in front of him before looking back at his younger brother with a lazy smile, “i'll tell you the details later.”
rindou rolls his eyes, walking into his room but before that, he responds to ran, “you better. good night you two.”
rindou haitani.
“you look like a creep.” sanzu walks up to rindou, resting his cold soda on rindou's head. his eyes move to what rindou's watching and looks back to him with a teasing smile.
“what do you mean by creep.” rindou says, slapping off sanzu's drink.
“well, if i saw a random thirty year old man dressed in dark tones looking at a girl i'd think you're a creep—without context of course.” sanzu defends himself, sitting beside rindou slinging an arm over the bench's backrest.
rindou raises his middle finger to sanzu's face, he's not going to listen to him anymore. unlocking his phone, he texts you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rindou smiles at your texts which creeps sanzu out. seriously, he's getting goosebumps so he must talk about it.
“gang executive smiles at silly texts with his girlfriend, how unsettling.” sanzu feigns a tremble, looking at rindou in pure disgust as if he committed a crime.
“shut up, pill popper and how did you know..” squinting his eyes at sanzu, rindou questions. how did sanzu know? what was bonten's number two doing to find out such information? how bored was sanzu?
giving rindou a grin, sanzu gives him a vague answer, “i have my ways.”

"Wanna have sex?"
"What?" You look up from your phone with wide eyes and a mouth open full of shock. You were just mindlessly scrolling through your phone a minute ago with Mikey laying on his stomach across your bed beside you. Everything was the same as it's always been, so what's going on?
He's looking up at you with his chin resting atop his crossed arms. How long had he been staring at you? You thought he was scrolling through his phone.
"What?" He pouts innocently. "You said you were getting sex deprived. It's been what, two years?"
"So?" You can't keep the defensiveness out of your tone, or the heat of embarrassment from warming your face.
"You told everyone at dinner tonight that you were going crazy," he laughs as he slowly sits up, "and even thinking about having one night stands on a dating app."
"So?" You repeat.
"Well, I think I'd be a lot less risky than meeting up with strangers." He crawls closer to where you're seated until your back is pressed against your propped up pillows. His arms cage you in on either side, trapping you against the headboard. "I think I'd do a better job at pleasing you too."
Your face is unbearably hot and Mikey's face is too unbearably close. You've stared into his eyes before, but not like this. Not so close up, where the contact feels intimate and you can see that his pupils have dilated. Where your eyes drift down from the black abyss of his eyes to land on the perfectly soft curve of his lips.
Those lips of his curl into a smirk before he pulls away with a wry, "think about it."
He suddenly bounces off the bed, phone in hand, to leave your bedroom. Only the roar of his motorcycle downstairs signals to you that he's leaving for the day.
What just happened?

Pro-racer Mikey that needs to do photoshoots and commercials every once in a while because he's famous and has a pretty face
He's put into his tracksuit or into lavish clothes to pose for the masses and a lot of people realise that Mikey has a presence on the camera that's unshakeable
And so....they decide to have him model for a photoshoot with one of the biggest models of the industry. Which works!! It's fine
They're just pictures.
But then the model posts a selfie of Mikey and her. and she says nothing but puts a heart in the caption.
And the speculations run WILD
Comments upon comments of shipping them together, calling them a power couple.
And you sit there, stuck in a doom scroll as you see one tweet after the other. You stare at your boyfriend, black hair neatly kept and smile wide like it always was, and you see the pretty girl.
And within seconds, you feel stupid for feeling insecure because Mikey had literally spent all morning peppering you in kisses, it was IMPOSSIBLE to pry him off even though he had a shoot and Draken had to come haul his ass up and out the door.
The man had texted you complaining how the food was blegh and how he missed your face.
There's no reason to be jealous.
So you turned off your phone and when Mikey came home, exhausted but very happy to see you....you let him smother you in kisses.
And it's forgotten
Until an unofficial bonus picture was released, on the magazine's Instagram page.
Him and the model, her leaning down as he sits on a chair...his hand wrapped around her wrist while their faces are inches close to each other.
It took three seconds to switch your phone off, throw it away and break down sobbing with whatever rational thought you had leaving your head.
You didn't need to read the comments to know what they were saying. You didn't need to wait until your friend's message you to ask if you're okay, out of pity. You didn't need his friends to call you in defense of him. You didn't need him to realise what had happened.
It was all a PR stunt so why would he even need to apologize. It was just a picture. Two people who were attractive being in close proximity to each other, being ogled by millions...being perceived as perfect for each other. As 'pleasing to the eye'
Now, Mikey was filming a commercial when this happened. He'd been chatting with the co-star while the cameras rolled when he noticed Ken-chin whisper into his phone.
The man looked annoyed, ready to argue but going rigid before sighing.
With a whisper to the director, everything paused as Ken waved his phone and said it was for Mikey. That it was Emma.
There was immediate panic because there's no way it wouldn't be an emergency. And he was right, his eyes widened and body grew stiff in seconds hearing his sister berate him.
For being a bastard, for breaking your heart like that.
She demanded he fixed it and when he was about to ask what was going on.....Draken shoved another phone into Mikeys hand...the instagram page of the magazine opened.
Oh. Fuck no
"I'm leaving." Mikey yelled out, startling everyone in the room, his years of being a gang leader coming out.
"What do you mean---"
Draken blocked the director's view, hands behind his back as he went back into the position of the second in command.
"You heard him."
"He has a contract--"
"He doesn't give a fuck."

❝one day i will stop falling in love with you, some day, someone will like me like i like you.❞
♡ manjiro sano ♡
pt.1, pt. 2
a/n: highly requested for pt. 2!! you ask and i shall deliver 😌
content: mikey x reader (y/n), very heavy angst, right person wrong time, you’re mikey’s childhood friend, he’s getting married (lolz), not grammatically checked/edited
...
it was currently seven in the evening, the newlyweds bid the last couple of guests goodbye. throughout the whole event, mikey tried his very best to plaster on the most convincing smile he possibly could to mask the chaos going on inside him.
there was never a second where you’ve left his mind, ghosting through every lane in his brain as he couldn’t focus on anything but you. he felt guilty, knowing that perhaps his marriage wasn’t going to last as long as he had hoped for.
“better invite us to the housewarming party, sano. your wife’s cookies are no joke.” pah nudged mikey, a small laugh leaving his chapped lips as he faintly nodded his head. mikey watched pah walking towards the door before suddenly stopping, watching as his friend bent down to fix the bottom of his wife’s dress. the hopeless boy couldn’t help but watch, observing the affection and love reciprocating between pah and his wife, before they both left together.
in the back of his mind, the memory of you zipping up his jacket properly during the cold winter season, lending him your scarf and making sure that he was all warm and snuggled up was fresh in his mind. you always made sure that he never got sick and when he did, you would ditch everything in your agenda to make it your business to nurse him back to health.
no one has ever cared for him like you have and mikey knew what he had to do.
“honey?” the voice of his wife awakened him from his train of thoughts, turning his head to the side as he was met with a warm smile. god, he felt so guilty for what he has done and was about to do.
“yeah?” he responded, waiting for her to ask.
“i was thinking that the two of us could have a small movie night when we get home.” she suggested, eyes twinkling with hope as mikey gulped harshly.
home.
they bought a house together and planned to live there forever until time was up. but, he always wished that it was you instead. mikey couldn’t bare to look her in the eye, clearing his throat as he tried to think of an excuse.
“it’s been a long day, you must be tired. i’ll drop you home and go over to ken-chin’s place since he suddenly left and isn’t answering my calls. get some rest, okay?” he lied straight through his lips, and his poor wife was too naive and quickly sympathized with it.
“of course, i hope him and y/n are okay. let me know what happens, hm?” suddenly, she wrapped her arms around him, making him freeze.
it felt so wrong, like he was being suffocated. mikey didn’t like this one bit at all, it felt too new and unpleasant. he’s been with ___ for a couple years by now and these things were never an issue. yet, after your sudden confession, the regret of not coming clean to his feelings years back ate him alive.
“hm, let’s go.” mikey gave her a smile, placing a hand on her back as he led her out of the church.
the drive to his house was not very long, giving him enough time to quickly slip out of the annoying suit as he slipped on a pair of jeans and a flannel. he saw his wife sitting on the couch, a small bag of chips in her hands as she munched on the salty snack while watching a rom-com movie. she noticed him and gave him a wave, making mikey want to rip his hair out as he just wanted to tell her the truth.
but, he wasn’t ready yet.
he walked over to her and place a faint kiss on her forehead before looking down at her.
“i’ll be back soon.” mikey assured, making her nod as she watched his figure walk out of the front door.
the ride to the brothel was about thirty minutes, making mikey curse on why he bought a place that had to be so far. the urgency to see you grew stronger and stronger with every light and block he passed. mikey quickly parked his car after arriving in front of the brothel before rushing out to go up to the floor where you and draken lived on.
the elevator dinged and he stepped off, now standing in front of your door. his breathing became irregular, anxiety swallowing him up whole. all the possibilities of you hating him and banishing him away from your life scared him to death. a shaky fist came up to the wooden door, knocking twice.
the door opened, revealing his tall best friend, staring down at him with a death stare that made chills run down his spine.
“ke-”
“what do you want?” draken brashly cut him off, making mikey’s lips agape as this sudden behavior from his right-hand man was completely unexpected. surely he knows that you might’ve ranted to draken about whatever happened between you two, but usually draken doesn’t like to get involved in neither your or mikey’s personal life.
“i just came to see y/n and talk with her, five minutes is all i’m asking for.” mikey chewed on his lower lip, eyes sternly on his shoes as he couldn’t bare to see his friend look at him with such hate-filled eyes. draken bitterly laughed, making mikey wince in pain as he knew that this was going to be bad.
“oh, so now you wanna see her, huh? you disappeared for nine fucking years, sano. nine damn years! you didn’t care about my little sister at all, whether she was alive or dead. did she tell you that she fell sick from not eating because she was looking for you? how she couldn’t sleep a single night in peace ‘cause she thought you were dead? of course not, you were too busy being blind and fucking some other bitch.” draken yelled through gritted teeth, making mikey look up at him with anger.
“mind your fucking words, don’t call ___ a bitch.” the shorter spat out, tension growing between the both.
“how rude of me, i forgot that you were a gentleman. well then, goodnight.” draken scoffed, attempting to close the door before a foot lodged into the remaining space.
“please, all i’m asking for is five minutes.” mikey begged, tears welling in his eyes.
“you had nine years to talk to her, but you didn’t. there is no five minutes, mikey.” the taller spoke, voice know cracking as mikey’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“w-what do you mean? where’s y/n? don’t just stay quiet, answer me!” he grabbed onto draken’s arms, only to have it harshly ripped away from his grasp.
“she’s dead! y/n is dead, my sister is gone.” the tears that draken has been holding on since mikey has arrived came flooding down, as he glared at his best friend with bitterness.
the words kept on repeating inside of mikey’s mind, taunting him as it felt like time has stopped. for some reason, it felt as if his body turned into stone, he couldn’t move. suddenly, a wave of rage began to build up, making him grit his teeth before balling his fists. anger clouded his sight as all he saw was red, eyes darkening.
“you piece of shit!” mikey bellowed, lunging towards draken before landing a hard punch on his jaw. remi screamed in horror, panicking as she saw both men breaking out into a violent fight.
“you knew about her tumor! you fucking knew and you didn’t tell me?! what kind of a fucking friend are you, traitorous jackass!” mikey continued to throw endless amounts of punches on draken’s face, receiving some back as well, but no matter how hard draken hit, he felt numb.
“stop!” remi yelled, before throwing her shoe at mikey’s head, making him wince at the stinging pain the heel left. draken was on the ground, breathing heavily as he shoved the smaller figure on top of him to the side.
“do you think that beating each other to death will bring y/n back? do you think she’ll be happy? huh?!” the girl sobbed, landing a hard slap on each of their cheeks as both draken and mikey looked down at the floor in shame.
“her death was inevitable, that tumor was a ticking bomb. she’s finally free from those painful chemo sessions, headaches, vomiting and seizure episodes. she won’t suffer anymore.” remi sadly smiled, body trembling as draken pulled her into his chest.
“i deserved to know, she was my other half.” mikey lowly spoke, tears pooling in his eyes, blurring his vision.
“you didn’t deserve shit, sano. all y/n has ever done is love you with all her heart. you were her world, everything revolved around you. yet, you failed to notice that. what did you do instead? you fucking disappeared without a word. oh and even better, you found some chick too. you never cared about my baby sister, you didn’t! so stop acting like the victim here.” draken sneered, meeting mikey’s teary eyes as he grew quiet.
“i was trying to protect her, i was afraid that my presence in her life would do more harm than good. i was scared that one day something bad would’ve happened to her because it involved something to do with me. i couldn’t risk it, that why i even disbanded toman.” mikey explained, breaking out into a painful cry as his heart bled.
“did you even love her?” draken questioned, watching the man in front of him choke on tears.
“god, i loved her to the moon and back! she was all that i could think of every second that i breathed. if i knew sooner, then i would’ve never left. i would’ve never been a coward, i’d stay by her side to protect her. i could’ve had more time!” mikey yelled in agony, making draken grab a hold of him.
“it would’ve never been enough! y/n didn’t tell you because she knew that it would’ve destroyed you.” draken hugged him, patting his back as remi joined them both as well.
after a few minutes, draken decided to take remi outside for a small walk, feeling like they needed some fresh air. this gave mikey some time to go see you. he hesitated for a bit, not being able to face you even though you were long gone. but, he eventually mustered up the courage and opened your door.
there, you laid on the bed like a pretty flower, your skin pale as snow due to the life in you being drained out.
“i know you told me that you didn’t wanna see me again, but i missed you. i don’t wanna let you go, y/n. i can’t live without my other half, i love you so much.” he cried, stroking your cold face as his tears fell on your cheek.
if only he knew, he would’ve cherished you longer.
---
mikey walked inside his house, eyes swollen from crying in the car, nearly getting into an accident twice from his blurred vision.
he saw his wife with a teary face, her friend my her side rubbing her back. the both of them noticed his appearence, and instead of a look of relief, the both of them looked angry.
mikey stood in his place, watching his wife rise from her spot and walking towards him before landing a harsh slap on his face.
“you fucking cheater! you don’t love me, i was your escape route. you love y/n, don’t you?” she asked, voice becoming shaky as she looked at mikey through glossy eyes.
mikey remained quiet, and there she got her answer.
“i knew it, i knew it! yet i still had some trust and hope within you that my guts were wrong. that maybe those little gestures you both gave each other was nothing but platonic. i was wrong, you and that two-faced bitch lied to me!” she screamed in agony.
“watch you mouth! you don’t get to call her that, you heard me? everything that she has ever done for anyone was nothing but a selfless act. you don’t know her.” mikey said through gritted teeth, making his wife scoff.
“yeah? well, you can now go back to her and continue to kiss her mighty ass ‘cause i want a divorce.” she sternly said, crossing her arms over her chest before walking to the door with her friend.
“i’ll get you the papers by next week.” mikey bluntly said, not even trying to fight or defend himself. he was tired and he didn’t want to live in an unhappy marriage for the rest of his life knowing that his heart belonged to you and only you.
“why? i wish to cut my ties with you as soon as possible.” she said with disgust laced in her tone.
“because i have to attend y/n’s funeral.” mikey deadpanned, making his wife’s mouth gape open.
“huh, guess karma is real. that’s what you get, sano.” his wife’s best friend taunted, making his now ex-wife giggle.
“i’ll come tomorrow to get my stuff. i can’t stand to stay here for another minute. also, i hope that two-faced bitch burns in hell.” she cockily said before heading out the door, slamming it shut.
---
it’s been about a month since you’ve died and mikey hasn’t visited your grave yet. he was there for your funeral, seeing how draken never requested the morgue people to not take off the promise ring you both have on your pinky finger. but, he didn’t stay for the burial.
mikey sat on the bench by the river, sighing as he fished out the pack of cigarettes he bought earlier. he opened the lid, plucking one of them out before placing it on his lips. as he brought his lighter closer to the end of the cigarette, your voice echoed in his mind.
“see, much better than cigarettes. but i was being serious, mikey, i don’t wanna see those near your lips or reach ever again. swear on my life?”
he took it out, placing it back in the package. mikey stood up, walking towards the garbage can before throwing out the pack of cigarettes.
mikey decided that it was time to see you.
he reached your grave as you were buried in the nearest cemetary, easy for your sibling to visit you on the weekends. mikey sat in front of your tombstone, placing the cup of chocolate pudding on the ground.
“felt like you wanted some.” he smiled, opening up his own as he took a scoop of the sweet treat in his mouth.
“how did i do it, y/n? how did i live all those years without you? now that you’re gone, i feel suffocated. it feels like i’m falling in this bottomless pit with no one to save me.” mikey’s voice broke, tears stinging his vision as he bit his lips to conceal a choked out cry that itched to leave his throat.
“you just have to find happiness again, mikey.” a soft voice spoke from behind him, the familiarity of the tone set chills all over his body. he turned around, eyes widening in shock as he couldn’t believe it.
“y/n?” he called out, but it was barely a whisper. mikey knew that you were dead, and that perhaps he was going insane, but he didn’t care.
you smiled at him, taking a seat in front of him as you grabbed the chocolate pudding he brought for you.
“are you real?” mikey finally mustered up the courage to ask, making you chuckle as you grabbed his hand. your flesh was cold, making him intertwine his fingers with yours in an attempt to give you some of his warmth.
“it’s time to let me go, mikey. you have to live, travel, start a family and just be happy; without me.” your eyes held so much sadness and depth, it no longer twinkled with hope like before, making his heart ache.
“i can’t. i need you by my side, y/n. please, come back.” he begged, shaky hands coming up to cup your face. tears began to stream down his face as he softly cried, making you sigh as you pulled him in a hug.
“do you remember our first meeting?” you asked, gently stroking his hair as he nodded.
“i told you, there’s too much love in this world to be consumed by regret or grief. i’m not saying that you shouldn’t grieve, but you have to pick yourself up and continue with the rest of your life eventually. that’s what i want, mikey.” you spoke, making him look at you with glossy eyes.
“if only i knew sooner, i would’ve done things so much more differently.” mikey sniffled, making you shake your head in disagreement.
“that’s why i didn’t tell you. my condition would’ve consumed you and i didn’t want that. i didn’t die in vain, i died knowing that i had a loving family and person who loved me for who i am. i’m happy, mikey and it’s time that you find that happiness too.” you assured, kissing his forehead as small drops of rain began to fall.
“i envisioned a happy life with you, with one or maybe two little kids running around our house. ken-chin and remi visiting us on christmas, road trips and so much more. i’ll wanted to marry you, y/n! you’re the only girl that i have ever loved, the one my heart belongs to.” mikey broke down, trembling as the rain drenched him. you couldn’t help but let a few of your own tears fall, watching the man that you love crumble to pieces.
“then marry me, sano.” you looked at him with adoring eyes, making him shoot you a confused look. you took off the promise ring on your pinkie before handing it to him. he took off his as he placed it in your palms, eyes never leaving yours.
he slid on the ring on your ring finger as you did the same to him. mikey gave you a soft smile before caressing your cheek.
“god, i love you so much.” mikey mumbled under his breath, leaning in for a kiss. you accepted it, and for some reason, your lips felt warm and soft.
“i love you too, which is why i need you to live for me. i’ll always be here with you mikey, somewhere safe and sound.” you placed a hand over his heart, making him cry harder as he nodded.
“okay. i’ll try, for you.” he offered you a broken smile, kissing your hands as you hummed.
“goodbye, mikey.” you said, and it made his heart drop.
“wait! don’t leave just yet! ple-”
but it was too late because now it was just him who sat alone by your grave. mikey saw that the pudding he got for you was gone, making him believe that the vision or ghost of you was in fact real.
you came back to him, even if it was for a moment.
mikey knew that he had to give his life a chance, a chance that you never got. which is why he promised to live to the fullest for you.
---
big flashing lights nearly blinded the famous race car driver as he cleared his throat, waiting for the interviewer to bombard him with questions.
“mr. sano! what a pleasure to have you here, thank you for joining us today.” the woman politely said, making mikey give her a small smile.
“the pleasure’s all mine, thank you for having me.” mikey smoothly replied, making the crowd swoon. for a man that was pushing his mid-thirties, mikey looked amazing, without a doubt. his voice was crisp and honey-like, making it hard for people to resist him.
not to mention the generous heart he has.
the interview was pretty long, consisting of questions that made mikey talk about his childhood, goals and inspirations. until the burning question hit him like a truck.
“mr. sano, you’ve got quite a fanbase.” the interviewer started off, being cut off by the loud squeals of mikey’s fangirls, making him chuckle.
“we all want to know, are you single?” the question pondered in his head, but mikey knew the answer and didn’t hesitate.
“i’m not, actually.” he revealed, making people gasp and scream from shock.
“who’s the lucky girl if i may ask?” the interviewer continued to ask for further information. mikey smiled, thinking about the only woman that will ever own his heart.
“my best friend, y/n. she’s my wife who unfortunately passed away a few years ago due to an inoperable brain tumor. she’s the love of my life and i miss her every day. i funded the research foundation for inoperable brain tumors in memory of her. she’s the biggest inspiration in my life and i hope she’s happy when she watches over me.” mikey spoke into the mic, making the crowd briefly go silent before a loud wave of claps echoed through the room.
“you’re a great man, mr. sano, i’m sure your wife is very proud of you. she sounds like an amazing woman.” the interviewer offered a consoling smile.
“she was. y/n was brilliant, she was smart and talented in almost every aspect. she’s my other half, which is why it made it hard for me to learn how to live without her after she passed away. but, she always told me how there was too much love in this world and i shouldn’t be consumed by grief. so, i picked myself back up and started something to give other people hope for a better tomorrow.” mikey explained, seeing how the audience was in tears from his heart-touching words.
for a breif moment, mikey saw you amongst the crowd. his eyes widened, seeing you in a beautiful cherry sundress, similar to the one you wear every summer in high school. you were clapping and you blew him a kiss, to which he caught as his eyes teared.
mikey knew that he would never stop falling in love with you and that he would let you break his heart over and over again.
because his heart belong to you and only you.

mikey with a omega who’s shorter than him?

୨୧ alpha!mikey x tiny!omega!reader
— his reaction to having an omega shorter than him
my masterlist: ☆
Tumblr media
mikey loves his bite sized omega! so cute and frail, so easy to hold and spin around in his arms.
mikey himself is fairly short, especially for an alpha. of course he makes up for his height with his strength, but there's something endearing and so right about having a smaller omega by his side.
it's simply the way you run up to him and instantly look like a lost puppy, your size making you look so much cuter.
his adoration for you is limitless. he can't get over how adorable you are during any circumstances of your life, it's like you were made to look lovely.
you're so huggable, the perfect human pillow for him to take a nap on. your lap is the comfiest, but he definitely prefers to hold you from behind at night, tucking your little body against his chest and gently kissing your forehead. you fit so perfectly against him and he won't sleep any other way !
what he loves about it, is how big your nest looks compared to you. you always look so lost, swimming inside all the blankets and pillows. it makes him want to cuddle with you so bad, shower you with pheromones and roll you into a burrito so that you can't escape his kisses.
same with his clothes. the first time you tried them on, he laughed and took a picture of you, loving how it highlighted your height. now, he forces you into all of his sweaters whenever you step a foot into his home. the claim it puts on you calms him down and it fuels his urge to keep you safe and sound because of how cute it makes you look.
but also, he'll take it as his chance to tease you a lot, hiding his laugh at the way your frown deepens and your mouth pouts out of annoyance. he just can't take you seriously, even with your arms crossed and your reprimands. not when you have to look up at him, big doe eyes fixated on him despite how tough you try to appear.
the only think he'll want to do is pinch your cheeks and pick you up all he wants. after all, you can't do anything to stop him and seeing your little legs uselessly kick in the air for him to let you go, gives him a heart attack.
he won't directly admit how he loves your height. instead, he'll make slight jokes about how small omegas like you shouldn't be acting all big and mighty.
he pats your head a lot! that could be considered his love language at this point. always digging his fingers through your smooth hair, telling you how perfect you look next to him.
whenever you get lost in crowds, you send mikey into a panic and he somehow never expects you to creep up behind him even though that's how you always surprise him.
needless to say he didn't see you coming!
you're basically drowning between all those people and you have to hold mikey's arm like a lifeline when the streets are getting way too busy.
he once tied a balloon to your back when you went to an amusement park that was particularly crowded. funnily enough, he could spot you really well, watching how the pink balloon seemed to float on its own and guided him to your excited self.
but you sometimes look so helpless mikey can't help but be constantly worried. such a vulnerable omega.., he knows you'd have a hard time without him.
of course, mikey isn't the most reliable person in terms of housework and such, but he can definitely protect you. he'd much rather play the role of guard dog than anything else.
and it's true that you sometimes look a bit clueless and it doesn't help that your small height makes you look even more like a prey than other omegas. it looks so easy to crush you and hurt you... mikey is scared that one clumsy move on his part will have you collapse before him.
and what about the others ? both his fear of losing you and his clingy personality can't let you go out on your own without at least his scent on you. a strong and capable scent to warn off others.
as for you, he thinks your scent goes so well with your appearance. you won't be able to see a scent match this well with its owner. a cute, sweet and candy-like scent, perfectly suited for such a lovely omega like you.
he goes behind you and puts his chin on top of your head, casually breathing you in. you ask what he's doing but he's simply holding you still, telling you to stop moving.
but really, this tiny size you've got makes mikey even more protective of you. he has been friends with other alphas his whole life and he knows how disrespectful and disgusting they can get towards an omega who looks as naive and innocent as you.
he tries to teach you to look more fierce, but those soft features of yours can't fool anyone...
in the end, it doesn't really matter and he won't pressure you into learning to fight. mikey can be distrustful and cautious for the both of you, so you don't need to worry your pretty head over anything of the sort. let your big and powerful alpha do his job and simply enjoy life like you deserve !
really, all he wants is to preserve that bright personality of yours, keep you away from those who could hurt you and stop you from having any bad experiences simply because of how you were born.

Going Home: Chapter 1 | 2 | 3
I kept my promise!! Editing tmr, I'm dead on my feet rn

The neighborhood that Takemichi and Naoto found themselves in was a far cry from the dazzling city lights of Shibuya City that Draken once called home: a suburb outside of the bustling city, where houses and apartments alike that lined the streets as far as the eye can see with the occasional shop breaking the facade. Yet even with the shop entrance nestled off on a side alley, the roads still noticeably buzzed with life as the time drew closer to noon, the hustle and bustle of non-stop traffic and office workers swarming through town that Takemichi remembered had instead been replaced smaller, livelier groups of students filing past with nay a glance at the duo, too caught up in their chatter and gossip of the day.
It was jarring, the former Toman member had to admit, watching the rest of the world go by uncaringly at its own relaxed pace when compared against the urgency of the sticky situation he was in the midst of. Whatever time he spent in the present was time that he couldn’t spend twelve years in the past fixing the future after all. Blue eyes nervously glanced around at every passing soul, before they turned to meet gray ones for the umpteenth time. “Are you sure this is the right place?” The former delinquent asked again, anxiously wringing his hands. He couldn’t help himself, even if Naoto’s sympathetic look had long given way to an annoyed frown. “Maybe we should ring again?”
"No, just give it a minute."
Something felt wrong, yet this ordinary bike shop was precisely where the detective’s digging had pointed him too, the name on the business license unmistakable. So why did it feel so strange? So out-of-place? Takemichi glanced at the shop sign again, the unlit signboard ominously looming over the small alley.
The questions quickly faded as footsteps started to thunder down what must have been a flight of steps after the doorbell announced their presence outside the nondescript motorcycle shop, the sound of annoyed mumbling growing louder as the footsteps approached. Takemichi held his breath. The door rattled for a brief moment before it was yanked open.
"What?"
The single word was growled out before the figure behind the door was fully visible, and Takemichi’s soul nearly left his body as he came face to face with a clearly pissed off Draken. The former Vice Captain of Toman had only grown taller and more intimidating with every passed year, and now twelve years in the future, he made for one formidable figure, blond hair now back to its natural black. A minute of silence as Draken looked between the two, before recognition sparked behind those abyss eyes. “Takemichi?”
“It’s me,” was all said man managed to squeak back.
Letting out a sigh, the bike mechanic dressed in overalls visibly relaxed, the hand clutching a wrench dropping to hang loosely by his side. “It’s been years.”
"It has been," Takemichi nervously laughed, before waving over to a very calm Naoto. “This is Naoto, a friend of mine.”
"So what do the two of you want?"
Straight to the point huh. The time leaper took a gulp of air, steeling his nerves. “W-well, um, Draken-kun, we actually wanted to ask about the… seventh founding member of Toman.” They wanted to ask about you was, what Takemichi wanted to say, but all those instances of being drilled again and again by Chifuyu to avoid saying your name at all costs twelve years ago stopped his heavy tongue from spitting it out.
Another pause as the larger man stared him down, and this time, the stillness was palpable. Takemichi could feel the sweat rolling down the side of his head, waiting for a reaction. His gut only churned more. This was not good,
Quicker than he could see, the next thing the time traveller could process was him being lifted cleanly off the ground by the front of his shirt, his face suddenly leveled with a furious Draken’s. “What?” The Toman founder hissed, the vein on his forehead throbbing. “Wanna repeat that?”
Fuck.
Slamming the door shut behind him, the once-Toman Vice President cursed under his breath as he stormed out from the back room. How fucking dare he. How dare Takemichi come asking for information on you. He had been inches from turning that turd face into a smear on the ground for soiling the memory of you with his thoughts.
Yet for all the anger smeared across his face in plain sight for customers and passers-by alike to see, it was an uncomfortable turmoil that brewed in the base of his gut, one that Draken knew came from a lack of closure. Of course he had been keeping his ear to the ground all these years - how could he not, when you meant and still mean the world to him - but the last thing he expected to happen today would be to be reminded of you and your sudden disappearance twelve years ago and the quick downfall of everything else that followed. You had always been the center of the Tokyo Manji Gang, after all.
In a vain attempt to distract himself from the sudden flurry of memories and thoughts, the former delinquent picked up a socket wrench and pulled out a stool. There was nothing more he could do at the moment, Draken tried to convince himself, busying his hands with loosening the bolts of a motorcycle engine; all Takemichi and his detective friend had brought were more questions instead of answers, but he was certain that he would have heard of any news regarding you.
A buzz as the bell to the backroom door went off once more, and every last shred of concentration the man with the dragon tattoo had left instantly went down the gutter. His mind leapt straight back to Takemichi as the vulgarities and curses started to flow once more. If it was that bastard again with his questions, he swears- “What?!” He barked out as the door flew open once more with a bang, not sparing a second glance as to who it was.
But it wasn’t the two black mobs of hair he had expected to see standing outside, instead being greeted by an awfully familiar swish of a ponytail that Draken hadn’t seen in years, the green of an apron with the logo of a pet shop striking against the backdrop of a dull, gray alley. Those distinct yellow eyes of Baji, once sharp and methodical, were instead completely blown wide with panic, the other shoving the screen of a smartphone straight at him. “It’s- it’s-” The words died away before they could leave his tongue; the former Toman’s First Division Captain clearly too shocked by something to say a hello or even notice Draken’s foul mood. And the temperamental pet shop delinquent would have never let that kind of tone drop without a fight.
The motorcycle engineer simply snatched up the phone to take a better look himself. “What am I looking at?” A pause, a sudden silence as Draken continued to squint at the screen while Baji collected his thoughts and emotions.
“It’s her.”
Draken almost dropped the phone as soon as the other blurted out those two laden words. “What?” The man muttered, his voice lost to disbelief. He knew, of course, who Baji was referring to. “That’s not possible.” It simply wasn’t. He would have known if you had been seen.
“Look.” Snatching back his phone, Baji clicked into one of his conversations, before turning the screen back around. “A message from her number. Yesterday night. I only saw it when I woke up.”
Draken’s mind instantly jumped to his earlier visit, and Takemichi’s probing questions about you. Was this related? Did he know something that Draken did not? Logic told the tattooed man otherwise - as much as he would have liked for you to have appeared out of thin air, there must be a different explanation. “Could it have been Mikey?” It must be, since they both knew that Bonten had continued to maintain your number all these years, Mikey having never really gotten over your sudden disappearance.
“So you don’t know about this either, huh?” The once First Division Captain shook his head, frowning as he concentrated. “Why would he send something like this?”
And that was true: the way the message started with a very hesitant “to whoever this number now belongs to” and directly addressed to a “hopefully Baji-kun”, there was no doubt that it must be you. What was the chance someone else with the same name as you would also know that this was Baji’s personal number? But how?
Any conversation left between the two died away, the two men left to ponder. The world, of course, simply kept turning, passersby eagerly making their way to unknown destinations, strolling past the small alley without a second glance at the duo, while the occasional vehicle rattled and raced down wide, empty roads.
Letting out a sigh, Draken stepped aside, waving at his once close-friend into the dimly-lit backroom. “I think you best come in. I’ll close up shop for the day.”
Twelve years in the past, despite your best efforts, you once again found yourself in the thick of things.
You sighed. “This is a bit of an overkill, don’t you think boys?” The rattling of chains seemed to agree with you, the metal links rubbing and clanking against each other as they followed the cuffed hand you raised to shake amusedly at the Toman founders huddled around you. Back twelve years in the past and once more separate from Takemichi’s time leaping woes, things were hardly going any better for you. “I’m really not going anywhere, I promise.”
To no one’s surprise, the boys disagreed, and they were far from afraid to make that known despite your assurances; you could tell from the tightening clutches and tugging on your shirt, and that was if you could ignore the immediate protests and whining and whimpering that broke out. But you couldn’t really blame them, you suppose, musing to yourself as you rested your chin atop a shifty Mikey’s head, unchained hand moving to gently hold Draken’s much larger one as Kazutora tried his best to snuggle his way into the crook of your neck and probably under your skin as well. After all, it had been just a single night since you had made your sudden reappearance in the small alley a stone’s throw away from your school in a gust of wind, and three nights since you first disappeared. You were sure this was the first and longest time your boys had been apart from you ever since they entered your life.
“You did disappear though,” Mitsuya’s voice cut above the others, those dark, heavy eyebags that clung to the bottom of his and everyone else’s eyes telling you everything you needed to know. “And we still haven’t figured out what caused you to… vanish.”
“To time travel,” you corrected gently. It was easy to tell that the delinquents around you were still uncertain about how you managed to slip their grasp without their knowledge, let alone accept the idea of you having somehow leapt into the future, somewhere that they were unable to follow you to. They had always been protective of you, perhaps because of the difference between their strength and yours.
Allowing your gaze to take a wander away from the mobs of hair of various colors gathered around you, your bedroom was exactly how you remembered it had been even twelve years in the future, your belongings having been left in the exact same spot all those years. Well, aside from the unmade bed where you had fallen asleep amidst the pile of delinquents the previous night, that is. Your present blankets were left still tossed aside into a messy pile, and you couldn’t help but wonder how your Toman friends knew how to fold them back the same way you always had. Did they also take turns keeping your home clean all those years? You wondered if they had managed to share such a difficult task that would have carried so many possibly painful memories. Which inevitably led your line of thought straight back to the various questions that had been plaguing your mind: where was the future you? What happened to Mikey that left him in such a state? And where were the rest of your Toman friends?
Yet all you had were more and more questions. Shaking yourself out of your ponderings, you focused your gaze back onto the lively group of delinquents. “I don’t know what’s going on either, but it’s probably linked to the onomori you boys gave me for safekeeping.” The same purple-and-gold charm from the very founding of the gang, the same onomori that had been stabbed during that life-threatening attack on Ken-chin you tried in vain to stop, the same one that Sanzu had accidentally discovered could summon you back from the future: it now hung from a metal chain under said Vice Captain’s shirt, pressed tight against his sternum where it could get constant skin contact, and more importantly, safe from the grabby fingers of Mikey and Kazutora.
The blond-haired delinquent with the intimidating dragon tattoo only instinctively reached for the onomori once more, as if to assure himself it was still there, the collar of his shirt crumpling as he closed his fist around the bloodstained, amateurishly-patched charm. Now that they had it, you mused, there shouldn’t be any more issues.
Baji, who had earlier been shoved aside by a bawling Kazutora, grumpily poked your side, and you jumped a little in response. “So what happens in the future?” The black-haired boy asked, as you beckoned him closer, patting an empty spot to your right where he could lean up against your shoulder.
Ah, you had hoped that their line of thought wouldn’t have gone there. Because how were you supposed to respond? You hesitated, the white-haired bony, tired figure of the future Mikey roaring straight back to the front of your mind with that question. Should you be telling them about the future? Sure that would be the easiest way to ensure that that particular timeline never happened, given you were sure this would be the first time your boys will have ever heard of this predicament you found yourself in, but what if you accidentally changed the future for the worse? What if you did something irreversible that only made a bigger mess?
Maybe it would be better if you kept things to yourself first - you could always tell them the full truth later on if you needed to. Keeping that in mind, you were quick to school your face back to a neutral expression, though the brief flash of internal panic across your face at that question was enough to raise suspicion. Kazutora instantly leapt to his feet, tears that had already been dried starting to well once more at the corner of reddened eyes, lips starting to quaver once more as he jabbed a finger in your direction. “Y-you left us,” his word ladened with accusation, those sandy brown eyes clouding over as the waterworks flowed. “You did, didn’t you? You m-married someone else in the future.”
And he sounded so convinced by his own words too, you amusedly noted, as if it had already happened because he said so. “I did not,” you stated simply, reaching over to affectionately pat his knee. “I told you, you boys will always be my priority.” You weren’t sure how the delinquent with the duo-colored hair came to that particular conclusion, though you supposed it was simply just jealous.
Draken raised an imposing eyebrow. “And you don’t want to tell us what happens because?”
“Because I’m afraid it changes the future for the worse.”
“What can you tell us?”
You hummed, your eyes glancing momentarily towards the ceiling as you thought before returning to meet Draken’s gaze. “My room was still exactly the same in the future.”
“Really?” Pah looked intrigued at the idea.
“Yup! Whoever did it did a good job too, my blankets were even folded back neatly.”
Outside, your neighbor was quiet as it always was right at noon, with students yet to be released from their classes and workers still congregated under the big city lights. It was strange, looking over roads and houses that you knew would stand the test of time, leaving you to wonder if the neighbors you were well-acquainted with still occupied their homes in the future you came from. Letting out a sigh as you leaned back onto your bedroom wall, you stretched out lazily as best as you could. “Say,” you ventured. “Did you happen to meet future me?”
Kazutora sniffled, just as Mikey lifted his head to stare blankly at you, as if your question had been asked in Martian. “W-what?” “What?”
”Nothing,” you hastily concluded. Seems like the ‘future you’ was somehow missing, and you noted that down mentally in case you needed that.
Thankfully the subject of your apparently strange question was dropped before you had to elaborate any further on your awkward question, with dirty looks immediately being exchanged between the two still clung to you, though the black-and-yellow haired boy’s ire was quickly stolen
You hadn’t missed Mitsuya’s unwillingness to mingle with the rest for the entire length of the time the six boys had been gathered, the lilac-haired boy keeping a careful distance from Kazutora in particular, nor did you miss Kazutora’s and Mikey’s seeming aversion to each other’s presence as well, the ugly stink eyes they shot at each other over your shoulders while attempting to jab at each other when they thought you weren’t looking hard to pass over. It was clear that your disappearance had sparked a fight between the Toman founders, and though the exact details were still lost on you, it wouldn’t do to leave this crack to split any further as far as you could help it. Huffing at Kazutora’s more insistent grip around your waist, an indulgent smile pulled at the corner of your lips as you beckoned at Mitsuya to join the huddle, before your hand moved to gently stroke a pouting Mikey’s back. “Have you boys been fighting again?”
“No.” “No.” The immediate denials, combined with their gazes instantly dropping from yours, were suspicious to say the least. You imagined that they had, in fact, been fighting while you were lost to the flow of time. You wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest.
Tutting, you dished out forehead kisses to the beefing delinquents, feeling them melt away against you. “If I cook some tempura for everyone for lunch, would you be willing to make up?”
You didn’t need to wait long to get your answer.
Days started to pass, the hours slipping through your fingers like water. Every minute brought you further and further from your little trip to the future, your disappearance from this present. Your boys had yet to let up with their obsessive observations of you as you expected. It had, after all, just been four days since your return. You simply took it in stride, having no qualms about them wanting to tail you anywhere and everywhere, clinging to a limb or to your back as you went about your day; it definitely beat being confined to just your bedroom and cuffed to your bedpost. With enough reassurances about how you really wouldn’t leave them, and that no, you couldn’t control your time traveling, you even managed to convince your delinquents to let you back out into the wider world for accompanied trips to the supermarket and snack shops. School, however, was still out of the question for the foreseeable future (you tried).
The afternoon sky overhead was unusually overcast, the threat of rain only growing more convincing with every passing minute. Strong gusts of wind rattled windows and doors, ferrying the heavy gray clouds straight in your direction as the humidity only seemed to climb higher and higher, and you were very certain that a thunderstorm was brewing despite the continued absence of thunder. Yet here you were, you mused, as you sat on a curb with a drink in hand, alone outside for the first time in a week while you waited for Baji to settle some differences with the other delinquents inside the store. Come to think of it, you couldn’t remember the last time you had been left truly alone ever since your disappearance, though clearly, Baji not wanting you to watch him fight sat higher on the priority list. It probably wasn’t going to take long anyway.
A pause as you scratched mindlessly at your skin under the cuff. Did Baji from the future also like to fight as much as your current Baji?
Despite the possibility of you returning to that particular future being close to zero in your opinion, given that the boys had a good handle on that purple-gold charm, but you couldn’t help but think back on the white-haired Mikey from the future that had melted in your arms, that you had left behind. Ah no, not left behind, you corrected yourself, as you tried to wave away the instant guilt that settled in your heart. Technically - technically it was just one of many possible futures, and that particular future where your friend had suffered so much could have already been changed.
But something deep in your gut told you that you were wrong. Pushing that line of thinking to the back of your head, you instead opted to amuse yourself with the shenanigans of the past few days as you waited.
You had, for one, been cooking almost non-stop for your boys ever since your return: breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks. Unusual, certainly, and you didn’t have to of course: no one was forcing you to, even if your clingy trio had the strongest pouty faces and watery eyes you knew, but you did feel like you had to make it up to them for all the worry. You did however get a lot of amusement attempting to send them to the supermarket with a grocery list.
And then there was the matter of Sanzu and the residue guilt that you couldn’t shake off. Sure, this Sanzu was not the same as the pink-haired man from the future with the crazy eyes, but you still wanted to put things right. Consoling yourself that even if it did change the future, a Sanzu that you were on amicable terms on was much better than dealing with someone that absolutely hated your guts for reasons beyond you, and apologizing in advance never caused any harm. It did take a lot of pleading, cajoling and outright bribery, but you finally manage to get Mikey and Draken to reluctantly agree to allow you to meet with the Fifth Division Vice Captain, though the two did remain very suspicious of how you knew the other.
Your lips were sealed from any further details, and you said your apologies and your thanks without giving out much information to the confusion of the boy with the mask, though thankfully for everyone involved, the meeting went rather uneventfully. Much to your dismay, the other was most likely forbidden from speaking to you, simply opting to listen quietly and then nodding at the end of your rambling, but you didn’t want to give him any more trouble - you didn’t trust your boys’ usual excuse that Sanzu was just quiet by nature and didn’t like to talk; they have been using that excuse for years by now. At least, you comforted yourself, you did manage to slip him another bag of karaage while a pouting Mikey was distracted.
You breathed out, watching another car whizz by as you took a sip from the bottle of iced tea. Beaded sweat that clung to your hair was dabbed off with a handkerchief, the humidity of the already hot afternoon only rising as the rain-laden clouds, gray from their load, rolled threateningly closer.
Glancing at your watch, you decided that it had been a long enough period of time for you to venture back into the small shop, the plastic bag hanging from your wrist rustling as you stood - your delinquent friend should be about done by now. But all you managed to take was a single step before you were quickly stopped once more. “Oh-” You blinked, shaking off the surprise, the black of the other’s shirt that you ran into momentarily blocking your entire field of vision. “I’m so sorry! I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
An annoyed tsk was all you earned it seemed as you quickly moved aside, and as your gaze was raised from the ground to meet the other, your obstacle was quickly revealed to be a boy with streaked yellow and blue hair, pierced violet eyes staring down at you through the circle lens of gold-rimmed glasses. A face you didn’t recognize from anywhere, not even the future. One that you would usually apologize again, write to the back of your mind, and then quickly move on to avoid any trouble, though the trailing blood leaking from the other’s nose and the bruises that decorated his face made you pause. “You’re hurt! Are you okay?”
”Fuck off.”
You didn’t let that bother you. “Don’t worry,” you assured, showing the other the scar left on your palm back from when you tried to save Ken-chin from that knife attack. “I’m a professional.”
That seemed to confuse the boy enough for you to leap into action as his violet eyes looked bewilderedly between the small mark and your confident gaze. Whipping open your bag, you produced a small bottle of ointment and a few bandages, basic supplies that you always kept on hand for your own delinquent boys. “What’s your name?” You asked cheerfully as you ever so gently dabbed the dark spots before sticking a bandage over.
“Rindo,” the boy answered. You replied with your own name, and that was that.
Carefully rinsing and repeating your procedure with each bruise till you were done (you were rather surprise he let you, if you were being honest), you passed him a tissue for his nose after with strict instructions to blow out the blood and not swallow it.
The other obediently held the tissue to his nose without complaints, as if silently asking if you were done now and to leave him alone. Not that you noticed, too busy rummaging through the convenience store plastic bag and retrieving a wrapped piece of taiyaki, to which you pressed it into his hand. “Here! For you,” you lifted your own open drink. “Sorry, I only bought one drink.”
The ring of the convenience store door opening again was a bell that cut off any further conversations, and you waved a short bye to your newfound friend before rushing over to meet an exiting and very grumpy Baji.
Once more separated from you by simple time, the gunshot shattered the tension weighing down the freezing air of the refrigerated warehouse, finally silencing the annoying muffled begging as the bullet cleaved through flesh as effortlessly as a butcher’s knife through tuna. A click as the used shell was expelled, yet hushness was quick to fall once more over the warehouse despite the area being far from empty. Mikey exhaled, his warm breath leaving a trail of fog behind in the cold air even as the man simply continued to stare blankly ahead, abyss eyes fixed on some unknown spot off from where the traitor’s head had been just a minute earlier, gun lowered to hang limply by his side.
A stone’s throw away, unusually alert green eyes framed by long pink lashes remained trained on the unmoving Mikey, the corners of Sanzu’s scarred mouth remained downturned as he contemplated what he had just witnessed. Far from the blood and death that bothered the made man, it was rather the sight of Mikey being there amidst the pooling blood instead of him, Bonten’s Hammer. After all, it was rare - unheard of - for the boss to personally bloody his hands with the dirty work, yet this was far from being the first instance of such an exception happening this week alone, be it to rivals, traitors or Bonten members alike. There had been several close calls for even the executives where the various members had found themselves at the business end of Mikey’s gun, Sanzu included, though fortunately there hadn’t been any accidental deaths yet.
And it was clear they remembered the past week’s incidents, Bonten’s Number Two breaking from his thoughts to throw an accusatory glance Kakucho’s way, given how everyone else was happy to let the boss stew, content with their quiet observation from a safe distance. Said black-haired man returned Sanzu’s icy look with a shrug that said everything: no one was too sure what was going to accidentally set Mikey off next, and with how trigger happy the man has been in the past few days, no one was quite keen to find out either.
Which left only Sanzu to do the job - the same man who had just been discharged from hospital after committing the ultimate sin and still very much neck deep in Mikey’s shit list - but still the only person left willing to risk his life. And he didn’t even have any drugs left - that shithead of a doctor in Bonten’s infirmary ward had confiscated his own stash on top of denying him any painkillers. Traitors, the whole lot of them.
The soles of Sanzu’s handcrafted shoes crunched atop the icy floor as he hesitantly took a few steps in the direction of his king.“Mikey?”
No response. Not a twitch.
The white-haired man seemed to barely even be breathing, lost to the breaking world in his mind. And there was no doubt about what caused this spiral. After all, it had been a mere three nights since you disappeared from his arms. Four days since Mikey had completely stopped eating or sleeping; and the few times Sanzu had caught the other nodding off for a few minutes before something wretched him back awake once more didn’t count. Short stubble dotting his chin, his mob of white, uncombed hair unkept atop his head, and still dressed in the same days-old clothes, it was as if he had ceased to function completely, and it was because of you that Sanzu’s king was rotting away, perishing before his eyes. A ruthless, cold man Mikey was as the head of the largest criminal syndicate in Japan, but twelve long years apart and for him to have only a taste of his darling you before some unknown force wretched you away from him again; it was as if the spark to keep slugging onwards had finally been extinguished from the broken man, and the strongman facade was starting to crack.
Despite the pink-haired man’s continued disdain for you, he understood, but there was nothing more he could do. Every available resource at Bonten’s disposal had already been committed to combing every inch of Tokyo, and all they could do now was wait. Letting out a sigh, Sanzu closed the distance, taking the few steps that brought him elbow to elbow with the boss, with just a couple of inches between the two. “Mikey? You alright?” He tried again.
Silence once more blanketed the area as his words drifted off and died, the freezing air in the refrigerated warehouse thick and heavy and hard to breathe. Off in the distance, Rindo shivered from behind the seat of a forklift, the chill finally getting to the younger of the Haitani brothers, but the world still fell silent.
At least this time Mikey did react, though not to Sanzu, the Bonten boss simply turning away from his right hand man, slippers making nay a sound as he padded away towards the exit, body listing from side to side with every step. “Ah, is it?” The ragged whisper that fell from Mikey’s lips seemed to echo louder than the earlier gunshot, unsteady steps threatening to give way under the man’s frail frame as he muttered to himself. “It was me? I see.”
All Sanzu could do was watch and grimace, hand moving to grip the bottom of his striped vest, knuckles turning white from his tight, frustrated clench. Mikey wasn’t speaking to any of the executives present, no, but to you: the whispering, taunting version of you that lived rent-free in Mikey’s hallucinations and delusions. Like a ghost that refused to depart, your shade haunting the white-haired man’s every move despite your absence, staying just beyond his grasp yet so mockingly close - who knew what kind of vicious words you were tormenting him with?
Even as he still questioned what had led to his intense dislike of you in the first place, he knew that the real you would never do such a thing, especially considering the tenderness with which he had previously witnessed you holding Mikey’s bony hand with. Definitely not to Mikey, but that was a matter for a different time. Shaking his head to clear his mind, the second-in-command tuned out those nagging voices, letting out a sigh that instantly fogged up into a cloud of white fog as he turned his attention back on the unstable man in front of him. Truly, having to live with this amount of clarity at all times was painful.
One step wrongly placed, and time felt as if it came to a crawl as Mikey’s slipper failed to get a grasp on the thin layer of ice that coated the cement tiles, the already lethargic man looked as if he would be meeting the ground under his own weakened legs, white hair streaming out behind the Bonten boss as he descended.
Sanzu moved. “Wait Mikey, you’re-” Calloused hands shot out in an attempt to catch his falling king, though it seemed too little too late, that signature black shirt brushing past the tips of his fingers.
But in that instant, the former up-and-coming delinquent was quicker, a speed reminiscent of his glory days as Toman’s President as he caught himself with little difficulty. “Don’t you fucking touch her,” the guttural growl reverberated across the tin-roofed building, and in one smooth move, the black pistol whipped around to lined straight up with the centre of Sanzu’s forehead, the black, heavy eyebags that clung to the bottom of Mikey’s eyes scrunching up as his gaze narrowed dangerously.
The world held its breath as green eyes met abyss ones.
A second ticked by.
A bead of sweat gathered along Sanzu’s pink hairline despite the freezing temperature, trickling down the side of his face. Was this it?
Another second.
Perhaps it was a mere moment of recognition that glimmered behind those exhausted eyes to which clung black, heavy eyebags, perhaps it was your specter taking pity on him, saving him from what was an unenviable fate. Whatever it had been, the heaved sigh of relief that slipped out from Sanzu’s scarred lips started his world spinning once more as the barrel of the gun was lowered, the other’s bony arm shaking from the effort of holding up the pistol. He hadn’t been sure if Mikey would squeeze the trigger, and even though he wouldn’t have been too angry to die by his liege’s hands, it was far from the right time to leave the other to those spiralling thoughts. He did, after all, swear an oath to keep the former Toman President safe; he had for all this time and he will continue to do so, even if it meant keeping Mikey safe from himself.
The palpable stillness persisted as seven pairs of various colored eyes watched Mikey turn once more to leave, soundless steps reverberating through the tense air as his abnormally delicate figure grew smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared behind the half-open warehouse door, long tendrils of cold fog lazily trailing out after him.
Running one hand through his mob of pink hair, Sanzu took a glance around at the rest of the executives present as a silent grumble slipped his lips; it was rare to see anything but amusement on the faces of these usually desensitized criminals, and even rarer for everyone present to be of the same thought. And if it had been anything but this conundrum, the pink-haired second in command wouldn’t have wasted any time in giving it to them for showing such useless emotions. But with the quickly deteriorating state of their boss as the hours and days go by and no sign of your return or your presence anywhere, there was little they could do but watch with concern as Mikey wasted away.
Despite the already ongoing search looking non-stop for you, all day and all night, a tightening knot at the base of his gut combined with a nagging feeling told Sanzu that they were unlikely to find you anywhere, his mind instantly leaping back to the pounding headache and the change in his memory back when he awoke in the infirmary four days ago. Why did he stop hating you with every fiber of his being previously? How did you do that? No matter what the others said, there was definitely something off about his sudden change of heart with regards to you, Sanzu knew without doubt, and he would get to the bottom of this.
For now, what he needed to figure out was what combination of begging and groveling would be enough to get Mikey to at least accept some water.
Yet just three hours later, Mikey’s situation had already taken a turn for the worse. Four days without food, let alone sleep, would do anyone in, and even the once undefeated Toman President was no exception. Now standing alone, consumed by the darkness of the last untrodden area in Bonten headquarters, Sanzu knew he was breaking every rule worth remembering, doing something so explicitly forbidden by his king. But as he rummaged through mostly empty cupboards and amidst the little belongings owned by the infinitely wealthy yakuza boss in a bid to find something, anything that could help, the black hole of spiraling thoughts that encompassed the events of the past thirty minutes overriding any awareness he had the items passing through his hands.
After all, it had been him who had come across Mikey, his near-skeletal figure sprawled unconscious across plush carpets halfway down Executive Row, just meters away from the worn white door of his bedroom. It had been him who had scooped the man into his arms and rushed him down to the infirmary, grimly noting how the man weighed barely anything. And it had also been him, on his knees and his forehead to the ground, pleading with a conscious Mikey to allow the doctor to administer a fluid IV, only for the other to reject his fervent imploring with a simple turn of his head, those exhausted abyss eyes breaking from his teary green ones wordlessly to stare blankly at the ceiling. Because no words needed to be said for Sanzu to know what the boss demanded: he would accept nothing less than your return and your cooking.
Despite the white-haired man not being present, allowing the light from the hallway outside to pour into the usually unilluminated room - the gloom and morbidness just as Mikey likes it - felt too much like the discretion of such a sacred space to the ever-loyal Sanzu, though this did leave him to conduct his hunt with just the sliver of light that sipped in from under the door. The cold sweat that gathered and pooled on his palms was hastily wiped away on striped pants as the usually high second-in-command attempted to focus back on his searching, green eyes scanning around in a desperate attempt to find something that could help, a clue that could point to where you were, anything.
This was all your fault. Was there nothing he could do but let fate play out?
It was only as Sanzu threw up his arms in exasperation did a glimmer from the furthest end of the room catch the corner of his eye; the small amount of light that reflected back seemed to sparkle even in the dark. The faintest shimmer of gold. What was that? A cautious few steps revealed the source to be a school bag - your school bag, judging from the neatly written name on the tag - that you had failed to take with you for whatever reason. And more importantly, hanging from the front of the bag from a zipper was that notorious purple-and-gold onomori that had him recoil his hand as if burnt.
No doubt it was the same one that still haunted his every step, one that marked you as off-limits all those years ago on the threat of torture and death. Yet -
The Bonten man reached out, gripping the onomori with one fist. He vaguely remembered something from many years ago, maybe twelve or more, when you first disappeared, when you first gave him that bag of karaage. He had been the one to find your charm, and if his scrambled memory hasn’t failed him, the simple of act of picking up this charm had summoned you out of thin air. Though after holding it for a rough five minutes, Sanzu sighed, undoing the simple note that kept the charm tied to your bag before standing. He probably just dreamt that particular one up during one of his highs.
Still, the man noted as he wrapped the small item ever so carefully in a clean handkerchief and tucked it into his breast pocket, it was probably precious to Mikey. Something to lift his spirits a bit maybe, if it did nothing else - anything that would keep his king going until you could be located.
And pressing it into said man’s weak hand later, and watching the charm disappear under sterile white blankets as Mikey retracted his thin arm, it was all too clear to Sanzu that the other was running out of time. If they don't find you soon, Mikey dies.
Turning to leave his boss to his thoughts, the right-hand man decided that he didn’t quite enjoy all the stress. He could use a smoke about now.
The sight of the empty lot where your school building formerly sat brought that familiar gut-sinking feeling back to your abdomen, one that you didn’t think you would be feeling again. Running one hand through your hair, you let a sigh escape your lips. You were back in the future again, it seems. Whether this was the same future or a different one, or even if you had skipped ahead the same number of years was something that was beyond you at the moment, and you had even less on you this time then the previous incident, having been caught in your literal pajamas right as you were about to head to bed. Which came with a secondary problem, one that you found by simply looking up - it was still the middle of night.
The neighborhood where your school once was was silent as it always was at this time of day, with most students and adults alike usually asleep by this time of day. Slipping your phone out from your pocket, you noted that the battery was dead once more: was it just a side effect of the time leaping?
Patting down the rest of your pajamas only confirmed that you had none of your house keys on you unlike your previous experience, which only meant that you wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep. Though heading back home wouldn’t be a bad idea if this was still the same timeline, and your feet started to carry you down familiar paths once more. Yes, you were sure at least someone would know you were back if you waited by the front door.
Takemichi let out an exasperated grunt, ruffling his hands through his hair. He had been back and forth from the future twice in the last four days alone, plus that disaster meeting with Draken, and nothing. No clues, no progress, nothing. You were still nowhere to be found. Kicking a stone down empty roads, the former Toman delinquent felt truly helpless for the first time. If his time leaping ability was being overridden by yours, then there was no point to what he was putting himself through - he couldn’t change the future until they could figure out how to stop yours.
And that meant…
The black-haired man shook his head vigorously in an attempt to stop his thoughts from going down that beckoning abyss. No, he couldn’t give up now. Taking a deep breath, Takemichi looked up, fists clenched determined by his side.
It was the middle of the night now, and the streets were completely empty of souls, with the exception of him wandering down aimlessly. In the distant, an occasional rumble of the engine of a passing vehicle, though none passed his way. But Naoto had mentioned that this area was where your school once stood, plus you lived not too far away as well, and therefore if you were really a time leaper, then there was a high chance this was the place you would return to. It made sense, Takemichi agreed, but this was already the umpteeth time he had searched.
Pulling one hand down his face, a flash of hair in the distance caught the man’s eye before it quickly disappeared behind a wall, too fast for him to even register. That looked like…you? Was that a hallucination?
A quick jog forward took Takemichi to the bend in the street, but when he looked round the corner, whatever trace of whoever it had been walking the roads was already gone.
Across the bustling city of Tokyo, Rindo froze mid-step.
Yet the sudden lack of movement was lost on Ran. The evening traffic had yet to let up outside, the rumbling of cars and the occasional horn cutting through the unnatural silence that hung inside the tiny shop tucked just a street away from the main road, though it was precisely the quietness that had carried with it the promise of an earlier rest. Careful to avoid dirtying his shoes with blood, the older Haitani had already made his way to the exit, suit jacket casually swung over one shoulder, gun tucked away safely and out of his side under his vest. “Let’s head straight back to base, Rindo,” Ran groaned, running one hand through his short purple hair only to grimace upon realizing that said hand was caked with someone else’s blood. Today was really not going his way. “You can grab a drink at the rooftop bar or something, I don’t know.”
Yanking the front door open with a grunt, said Bonten executive didn’t stop to hear if there was a response from his younger brother, instead opting to step straight out and back onto the narrow side alley, the buzzing streetlight overhead as if a welcome back from the grim of that filthy store and its dead, traitorous owner. Taking a breath of the comparatively better smelling air outside, Ran stuffed his hands into the pockets of his pants, pulling out a sole crumpled cigarette and a handful of change - but no lighter. Not even a match. Fuck this fucking disgusting job.
Ran turned, hand already outstretched. “Rindo, do you have a light -” And it was only then did it hit him that his brother had not followed him out. Rindo was still in the store for some goddamn reason, and he had to go back in there. The feared mafia officer sighed. This had better be important.
Alas, he spoke too soon.
“I think my memories just changed,” was seemingly all that Rindo could bring himself to mumble at the chime that came with the opening door, the man with the long purple hair still standing by the row of unpowered display refrigerators where Ran had last seen him, violet eyes staring down at the blood pooling around the cooling bodies sprawled on the floor. The stench of iron didn’t seem to bother the younger Haitani, too caught up in his jumbled mind as Rindo tried to make head or tail of what had just happened.
Ran, however, was far from impressed, simply propping both his hands on his hips and raising one eyebrow at that statement. “Did you get into Sanzu’s drug stash?”
The sheer vileness of that statement alone was enough to shake Rindo out from his own little world, with said man snapping straight back into reality ready for a fight. “How dare you-” the younger of the two let out a cough, the sudden thick smell of death and blood that made itself known to his previously oblivious nostrils choking up his airway momentarily. “How dare you say that.”
“Well, what else am I supposed to say when you talk dumb shit?”
“It’s not dumb shit, fuck you Ran! My memories changed!” Rindo insisted, carelessly stepping over the bodies at his feet, Ran wincing at the blood splattering up and all over his brother’s shoes. That would be a pain to clean later.
But still, the older Haitani led the way back outside and into the fresher air of the alleyway, before turning around to better understand the situation his dear brother seemed to have found himself in. “Alright, if not pink pills, then what happened?”
Rindo himself still seemed to be struggling to make head or tail of what had just happened, letting out a groan as the man with the long purple hair rubbed his temple with one hand. “It was after we shot those two inside. All of a sudden, my head felt like it was about to explode for a second, and I suddenly knew…stuff. Things that I didn’t know before."
“Like what?”
“You know you were telling me about Mikey’s girl earlier?”
“Uh huh.”
“I’ve never met her, and before the job, I couldn’t tell you what color her hair was. I can pick her out from a line of schoolgirls now.”
“Oh.”
Violet eyes met each other, and as if on instinct, both men thought back to the Bonten infirmary just days earlier, where an eerily similar sentence had been muttered. Sanzu. Ran sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “So it wasn’t the drugs.” This day was just getting worse and worse. “Let’s head back and sync up.”
“Sure,’ Rindo shrugged, scratching the back of his head as he nonchalantly followed his older brother, the purple-haired duo stepping out onto the busy main street and blending into the crowd, blood splattered shoes a distant thought. “I do remember her being pretty nice though.”
Ran raised an eyebrow, as he absentmindedly fiddled with his earring. “Pretty nice or pretty and nice?”
The younger Haitani audibly tsked, raising one leg to kick at the other’s. “You know what I said.”
The lighter, joky mood that the brothers shared didn’t last past their return to Bonten HQ, much to Ran’s disappointment, the usually silent place abuzz with a rare, panic atmosphere. Men and women alike dressed in neatly pressed suits rushing every which way, the small bulge under their suit jacket where their guns were strapped to an unspoken reminder of where they were - no doubt the communicators fixed to their ears were all but alight with barked orders and updates. Casually grabbing a passing grunt, it took a mere moment and single shouted objection for the poor soul to realize who exactly had grabbed him by the back of his shirt, the purple and green striped suits too iconic to be mistaken. “Ah- oh, Haitani-sama.”
“What’s going on?” Ran didn’t need to see through those dark sunglasses to see the other’s shifty look: the nameless Bonten grunt was definitely contemplating the chance of him being dead within the next five minutes as opposed to the next hour.
”Uh-“
Rindo reached threateningly into the depths of his suit, and sweat began to pour off the other’s forehead. “You know,” the younger of the two Haitanis started. “I’ve had a really bad day.”
”No, please, Haitani-sama, I’m not sure-“
Fortunately for all three men involved, the interrogation was brought to quick and uneventful close with the appearance of an all-too familiar mob of pink hair just as Rindo pulled a lollipop out to pop into his mouth. The grunt was let go to scramble off as both sets of violet eyes snapped to the unusual sight of Sanzu impatiently tapping his foot soundlessly against the plush carpet of the foyer, smoking cigarette held between scarred lips as the man looked around before glancing once more at his watch.
A smirk instantly began to pull at Ran’s lips as he stuffed both hands into the pockets of his pants, strolling over. “Oh Sanzu~”
“I’m busy,” came the other’s curt reply, green eyes looking Ran up and down a mere moment before turning away.
”We know, we know,” the man with the short purple hair pacified. “It’s just that-“
Rindo quickly butted in, having closely followed his older brother over. It was clear that Sanzu, far from his usual drugged up and easily bullied state, actually had things to do and places to be. “My memories changed.”
Sanzu’s unusually alert gaze slid over once more to meet Rindo’s, and it seemed the severity of what the younger Haitani said set in quickly as his eyes steeled. “Mine did too. Again,” the Bonten second-in-command disclosed, though he said no more as the glass doors of the foyer slid open and Kakucho stepped out, gloved hand lightly touching where his gun was strapped to his chest under his jacket. “We’ll talk about this later. House alarm tripped again.”
Ah, your little pick-up party, Ran noted from the side, watching the two top Bonten executives slip effortlessly into a black, featureless car that quickly pulled away from the compound. So you were back - and your arrival must have something to do with the changing memories.
How interesting.
Across town, Draken cursed out loud as his feet flew over concrete paths down empty streets. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
You were a fucking time leaper.
He had been working late on a client’s bike as he always did, the closed garage a quiet refuge after the hustle of the normal work day. The headache had hit him like a clap of thunder, with his brain feeling it was pressing up against his skull; and memories of twelve years past suddenly started to flood back, a recollection he couldn’t control. But they were all memories that he didn’t previously have, freshly added memories: some of your reappearance in his past, some of a fight he never recalled having with the other Toman founders, and most importantly, memories of you telling them what had happened.
It changed him, Draken admitted. It gave him a renewed hope that he didn’t remember possessing, that they might be able to fix this entire mess, that you were somewhere out there. All this time you were missing - it was true. You couldn’t control it like you had admitted. But if the past him still had that onomori, then why were you back in the future?
Turning a corner, a quick step aside was the only thing that kept him from running straight into someone else, though those fast, honed reflexes also almost had Draken swinging his fist into an all-too familiar face.
Baji was panting as if he had ran a full marathon, his apron half undone and left swinging from his neck, his hand clutching his open phone. It seemed like the other Toman founder had been struck with the same revelations, Draken determined, judging from the half-dressed state he was in.
And then those two fateful words tumbled from Baji’s lips. “Time leaper.”

Wakasa He began to lace the purple little gloves on her hands. “Remember what daddy taught you?” he asked his baby girl. Her eyes watching her dad tying the strings of her glove. “Just like we practiced.” Wakasa patted her head.
She saw her large uncle Arashi get into the ring he had his gloves on as well. She saw her daddy get out of the ring leaving her in the ring. “Daddy.” She trembled in her voice.
“you got this bumble bee, keep your hands up and remember the bigger they are the harder they fall.” Wakasa spoke. For years he saw people come in and out of the gym then after training with him he could see the confidence in them. He wanted to do the same thing for his daughter seeing how sometimes she didn’t have confidence in herself due to her being overly shy about anything she did.
She heard the bell ring and followed her dad's instructions keeping her hands up. Arashi was willing to help his little niece even if he had to be a little dramatic. Wakasa's little bumble bee swung towards her uncle hitting Arashi’s stomach and in a matter of seconds Arashi began to feel ‘pain’ from the hit. He fell to his knees and pretended to knock out. Her eyes widened in shock that she did that to her uncle. She turned around hearing the bell. “I killed him.”
“ no no you knocked him out! You did it!” Wakasa said, reassuring his little one, getting into the ring. “And the winner is my little bumble bee” Raising her hand up Some of the members in the gym clapped and cheered for this because her little cheeks radiated with heat. She had a bashful smile. “See bumble bee l, no one your age can knock out a giant like him.”
Takeomi
“No daddy I don’t want to go…” Her little backpack was on her shoulders. This was her second day of kindergarten. His daughter didn’t have the best day yesterday. She tried her best to meet some friends but when she would try to speak she began to stutter when nothing came from her mouth she took off in the other direction in the classroom.
Takeomi felt bad for how her first day went. He should have listened to his wife and should have put her into a head start program to help with her social skills but he thought she was too little and being a first-time dad all he wanted to do was protect her and just knowing her parents would always be there for her. Now letting her get her own wings was a challenge. His hands gently were on her shoulders. “I know it’s tough but you can’t give up…. Daddy wants you to try for him. Can you do that for me?” He calmly spoke to her.
She took a moment to respond with a slight nod. He had a relieved smile. He reached into his coat pocket  “Since you're staying today I have something for you that can help.” Pulling out small bracelets with charms on them.  “I went to the store last night and I asked the lady I needed a special bracelet to help give little princesses confidence. She found this… Look, it has all your favorite things on it too.” He began wrapping the bracelet around her wrist. Going to the jewelry store last night as a gift for her starting kindergarten. Something special for her and if she knows it’s supposed to help with her shyness she could feel a little more relaxed when making new friends.
“Will it help me? ” She blinked a few times looking at her dad.
“Mmhmmm,” they heard the bell ring “alright princess I will be here to pick you up after school.” Giving her a big hug. “ I love you.”
“I love you too.” Kissing her cheek. He watched her enter the school and she disappeared around the corner where he class was.
Chifuyu
It was his day off and he told his wife to enjoy herself for a few hours while he kept an eye on his munchkin. He was trying to feed Peke J when he couldn’t find him. Calling for him no response. He was looking everywhere for him and nowhere to be seen. The last place he checked was his daughter's room. Her door was slightly cracked open when he could hear his daughter's voice. “Down by the bay~~~ where the watermelons grow~~~ back to my home~~~`” he could hear the cute melody coming from his 4-year-old who was in her room singing. He could see on her bed Peke J,  he had one eye open as he watched his little owner enjoying herself. “Have you ever seen a fly wearing a tie? Down by the bay~”
He hasn’t heard his daughter sing like this before. She would copy a few words from the song but it will only be spoken softly by her. Hearing her sing the full song brought a smile to his face. Peke J notices the presence at the door picking his head up meowing. His daughter stopped singing and he was busted.   “papa?”  she called out. When he finally opened the door the familiar pair of green eyes that resembled his looked back at him. “Hey sweetie, I was looking for Peke J. It was time for him to eat.” Chifuyu smiled. “I happen to hear you singing.” he smiled. “It was cute.”
She was bashful as she looked down at the ground, her hands were behind her back  “you liked it?” “Of course! You have the sweetest voice I ever heard. You got that from your mama. I know it's not from me. Do you mind if you will sing for me?”
Her eyes lit up, nodding. “Mhmm.”
“Promise?” he crouched down holding his pinky out to her.
“Promise.” her little pinky wrapped around his.
Baji
During his final year of residency, he was exhausted. Knowing this would be a big step in his career and for his family as well. Stressful years in school were going to pay off. His shift at his vet hospital ended. Making his way to his home knowing it was late his daughter could be asleep. Entering his home that was silent. ‘They are asleep.’ he thought to himself. He got out of his clothes into something more comfortable, he walked into his daughter’s room, the small night light by her bed was on and she had a stuffed white cat she was holding onto. He sat on the edge of the bed. He had been so busy he hadn’t had a lot of time with his favorite girl. Brushing her hair back and kissing her temple. Her daughter shifted her little hand rubbing her eyes as they slowly peaked open “Sorry I woke you.” he whispered.
She let out a yawn. “I told mommy I wanted to wait for you, but I fell asleep.” She looked up at her dad. She missed her dad and knew when he had some time when he wasn’t doing his residency he needed rest. “Imissedyou.” she mumbled quietly.
Baji noticed how his daughter held onto the stuffed cat as she buried her face into the top of its head. “I missed you too kiddo.” he looked at the drawing that was on her nightstand and picking it up he could see three figures “Did you do this?” She nodded her head “It’s f-for you Daddy.” snuggling into her stuffed kitty cat.
“ I have to add this to my collection of fine art, thanx kiddo” he looked at the photo then he found himself yawning. His daughter could see a tired look in his eyes. She scooted in her bed and Baji noticed she was making room for him to lie down. He was too exhausted to get to his room and he gladly accepted cuddling with his baby. “You wouldn’t mind if I crashed with you huh.”
“I-I don’t mind.”
At times Baji forgot how big she was getting he still remembered her being a newborn who was the side of her forarm. Brushing her dark bangs out of her face. It didn’t take long for his daughter's eyes to become heavy; she didn’t fight her sleep. Baji looked down to see the smile on his baby’s face as she was asleep cozy next to him. His eyes finally gave out as he hit a deep slumber.
Mikey
The father-daughter dance was today and Mikey was ready to go. He had the corsage to match his daughter's dress. When he first heard about the dance his daughter was excited she would be taking her dad with her, but the closer it got she became a bit more nervous. There were going to be a lot of dads with their daughters there.  “Love, we are going to be late.” he knocked on her door.
When his 5 year old opened the door she saw him in the pretty red dress she picked out last week from the store. His daughter didn’t get his personality at all. No matter how hard he tried to help her out breaking the shyness she retracted back more. There were people she was able to talk to that she was comfortable with but others she was mute. Mikey smiled, “I sure do make one hell of a cute kid, you are gorgeous my little princess.”
He could see her face glowing red as it matched her dress color. “I um uh thank you dad,” she was a bit jittery with the compliment from her dad. Opening the container of the red corsage and placing it on her tiny hand.
“Am I going to get to dance with my gorgeous date?” Mikey asked, taking her hand.
“Ca-can you teach me ?” She began following her father to the car.  She really didn’t know how to dance.
“Of course. Anything for you princess.” He buckled her seat belt and he began to drive towards the school.
Shinichiro
Shin could see the frustration in his daughter's face. She was trying to fix her toy that came apart. Trying to clasp them back together when they kept coming apart. She let out a low sigh. “Do you need help, cupcake?” Shin asked, catching his daughter's attention.
“It’s okay daddy I got it.” Her concentration was still focused on the toy.  Shin could see how to fix the toy he began making his way . “No-No daddy, it's okay.” She looked up at him and he took a seat next to her on the floor. She became a bit more nervous; she wanted to do this for herself instead of going to ask her dad all the time. Shinichiro always loves helping her out. When he is in the shop he would ask her to help him pass him the tools he would need to fix a bike.
“Daddy is just gonna watch kay?” he patted her shoulder. He continued to watch her tweak it but it wasn’t working. A frown came to her lips she had to admit to defeat this time. “It's okay sweetheart. Take a deep breath.” He guided her through the deep breath and saw her relax after. “Turn this piece around.” He pointed to the left side of the toy. Following her fathers instructions she managed to place the piece properly in. “ you did it!” Shinichiro saw the look on her face she was biting her inner cheeks looking at the toy. “What’s wrong?”
“I wanted to figure it out myself.” She looked over at her dad then back down. “But i couldn’t.”
“It’s okay to ask for help, I know you want to do it yourself but sometimes we need help and I will always be there to help you.” Rubbing her back.
She gave a small smile nodding at her smiling dads face. She reached for one of her other toys “ do you want to play with me?” In her other hand she one of her toys
“Of course!”

wife on the low manjiro, sanzu.
sum. babysitter!reader. idk where i was going with this one
Tumblr media
manjirō sano
tension. too much tension. it's not easy trying to focus on a happy baby when you have two eyes digging through your soul. his gaze is terrifying—whether it's just the way he's just there quietly or the fact that he's bonten's leader, you don't know. he's a scary man.
trying your best to ignore whatever he's doing, you focus on cheerful baby that's been slapping her hands continuously on the little container with water.
she's five months currently so you decided it's time for sensory playtime! starting off with water and slowly adding little sensory toys into the container as she plays.
“it's getting messy.”
“oh—should we stop?”
“no, continue. i'll clean up.”
mikey pushes himself off of the door's frame and wanders off to some room for a mop. he walks away with thoughts swimming in his head; delusional thoughts if you asked him.
he doesn't really know what is it that he's feeling. is it love? dunno. he never felt it in a long time. well, it's not like he remembers what love felt like—he didn't even love the mother of his daughter. hell he can't even remember what possessed him to have sex.
coming back into the playroom, he stills for a moment. cute, he thinks. you look fitting like that. something about the way you're giggling with his daughter while she babbles words only those of her kind understands really makes his heart swell.
“'m back,” he announces after a good few minutes of gawking.
moving the baby onto her crib, you pinch her cheek before going to help mikey.
so close, you think. his body's just above yours—close to the point where you can feel his sweater on your head. his hands moves on yours taking hold of the container.
you made the mistake of glancing at him,, now you're stuck gazing into his static eyes, looking for any hints of his current emotion.
five seconds turned into ten and he doesn't break the eye contact. rather, his right hand glides from the container and rests itself on your cheek.
does he know why he did that? no.
is he going to elaborate? also no.
a few more minutes in wondering silence until he breaks it.
“you're pretty.”
oh!
it takes a minute to process it; eyes opened but still looking into his. mikey drifts his gaze from your lips and back to your eyes. he shows no signs of taking back what he said.
“thank...you..?”
chuckling, he notes your confusion and decides to fuel it by saying: “you're welcome. be my girlfriend.”
sanzu haruchiyo
“pick a colour: blue or red.”
“how about no!” hoisting up his daughter on your hip, you circle around the table making your way to the kitchen as you ignore his attempts of getting you to pick the drug of the day.
sanzu raises his eyebrow at you. you sure have a lot of nerve in front of someone that can easily kill you but he won't. why would he kill you when he isn't sure if he, sober!sanzu, loves you or if he, high!sanzu, is just fucking around.
eh, it's not like he's worried. that's something for future him to worry about!!
“sanzu, her formula's about to end!” shouting from the kitchen as you violently shake her bottle, you faced your focus more on the quiet eight month old rather than the twenty-eight years old father.
“is that all?” sanzu moves on arm behind the couch as he looks back at you. she's a natural with kids—especially mine, he thinks. he's going to blame the drugs for that even though he's very much sober.
“yeah, is it okay if i use your card? i need to stock up on the groceries too.” you explained, dropping a few droplets of the milk on your forearm to check the temp.
“why're you askin' me? it's your card. i took it out for you.”
“because i don't wanna—oh???” you paused. sanzu, your boss, couldn't have possibly taken out another card for you right? certainly, right? god, it's so hard to focus after he said those words. you try to not think too much of it but it's just too difficult.
lost in thought, you didn't realize that he's already in front of you, holding up his mini to give her a nose kiss before looking back at you.
“looks like she's finished. let's go.” walking towards to door, sanzu grabs his keys from the holder along with his mask.
“huh—oh, right her stuff. just a minute!” you can't seem to think coherently, not when those words still linger fresh in your mind.
maybe it's the drugs,
maybe it's you,
maybe it's him,
maybe it's the way he holds your hand firmly while smiling whenever an elderly lady compliments your little “family”,
or maybe it's the way he guides you into his room at night after his daughter fell asleep, pulling you into a kiss that answers all questions.

[Shitty Day] Manjiro Sano
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were grudgingly walking back home under the moonlit sky, relieved that your cram lesson was finally over. Today had been a shitty day for you, and you couldn't wait for it to be over.
First, you somehow didn't hear your alarm and woke up late, making you absolutely late for school that day. Even though it was your first time being tardy, the discipline master showed no mercy and sent you to detention, assigning you to write a 2 page essay on the importance of punctuality and why you shouldn't be late.
Pointless, really.
But you couldn't do anything about it, and obliged to the punishment given to you.
During lunch, you managed to bump into some idiot who was running around in the cafeteria, and he spilt his drink all over you. You were frustrated, and to make matters worse, you didn't have a spare set of uniform to change into, resulting in you having to wear the stained uniform for the rest of the day.
Bummer.
It was at this point in time where you wished your boyfriend would magically show up.
Too bad you and him don't go to the same school.
So you went along with your day, hoping that Mikey would show up later on.
For the remaining lessons you had, the teachers for some reason, picked on you to answer their questions. Irritating, it seems like everything was against you that day.
By the time your lessons were over, you were exhausted, and relieved to finally get a break. But your moment of relief was short-lived, as you still had cram school to attend.
Internally cursing at your parents for signing you up for it, you made your way to the destination, dreading the next four hours of constant revision.
Which lead you to where you were now, walking back home in comforting silence, thinking back on how the day could've been different, if it weren't for the bad luck you were somehow possessing that day.
If only you could see your boyfriend right there and then. You'd think that he'd instantly cheer you up in his own way, like he always does.
"Yo, (n/n)-chin! Over here!"
Your head instantly whipped towards the direction where the familiar voice came from, and your eyes lit up as you recognised the person.
There, in a few metres distance, stood the one and only Manjiro Sano, waving you over to where he was standing with his bike.
With a soft smile spreading across your face at the sight of Mikey, you walked over to him.
"Mikey? Why are you here??"
"To see you of course! I didn't get to see you the whole day, y'know. Do you know how torturing that was?!?"
You let out a giggle at his antics and shook your head in disbelief. You could see Mikey's gaze on you grow softer, as his eyes scanned you up and down, finally noticing the stain on your shirt.
"Woah, how did that happen??" Mikey asks, as he immediately drapes his jacket on you, trying to cover up the huge stain on your uniform.
"Some guy wasn't looking where he was going, and spilt his drink on me." You replied, face flushing at his gesture.
Mikey frowned at your words, seemingly taking in your expression seriously.
"Haah?! What guy dares to cause an inconvenience to you, my girlfriend?! I won't let him get away with this. Nuh-uh!" Mikey bellows, and your eyes widen in shock.
You had to hold him back from storming off to who knows where.
Probably thought he'd find the guy who spilt his drink on you somehow by doing so.
"Wha- Where are you even going?! You don't have to do anything! I'm fine! It was just an accident. Today's just.... a shitty day, that's all." You said, your voice trailing off as you said those last words.
Noticing the change in your tone, Mikey stopped in his tracks and turned to face you, his soft gaze lingering on you.
After a few moments of silence, you heard him sigh, and walked back to his CB250T, getting on it immediately.
"Sounds like you really had a rough day, huh? Come on, let's go for a drive, (n/n)-chin." Mikey murmurs, locking eyes with you as he flashed you his signature smile.
You blinked in surprise, before hesitantly walking over to him, and getting on the bike. You wrapped your arms loosely around him, much to his dislike. So, doing what any boyfriend would, he started driving off at full speed, causing you to tighten your arms around his waist before you get flung out of your seat behind him.
"Woah! Mikey! Slow down!"
Mikey only just chuckled in return, still driving his bike at high speed, making you groan at his stubbornness.
Within minutes, the both of you arrived at... a port?
Mikey quickly parked his bike, and helped you get off it, leading you to the far end of the place, taking a seat along the railing, where you could see the wide stretch of the sea lit up under the moonlight.
There was a moment of tranquility as you took a seat next to Mikey on the railing, watching the ships sailing slowly to and from the port.
It was relaxing in a way, making you forget about the events that happened that day.
"I always come here whenever I need a moment to myself, or if I need a place to think about stuff." Mikey finally speaks up after who knows how long.
He turns to look at you, and flashed you a warm smile.
"Now, this is our place. Call me when you need me, or when you have a shitty day, and I'll bring you here. As random as it is, this place helped you forget about everything that's happened, didn't it?"
Your eyes widened at how easily Mikey was able to read you, and you could only just nod, returning the smile. You leaned to his side, and rested your head against his shoulder.
No matter how shitty your day was, you knew Mikey was always able to find a way to cheer you up. That was what you loved about him.
"Thank you for this, 'jiro."
"Don't mention it, (n/n)."

𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐃 — 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐫𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐨
୨⎯ fem!reader. smut. wc: 2k. minors do not interact. mikey's friends helps you plan out a beach day and forces mikey to show up. mikey thinks he's being a pervert. but in actuality reader is doing it on purpose.
Tumblr media
“I’m not wearing that.” Mikey deadpans at the coral print shorts Sanzu is holding up currently. It’s bad enough that Mikey is being forced to stop his work and come out to the fucking beach—now his stupid colleagues are trying to dress him up too.
“It’s cute though!” Sanzu protests.
“You wear it then.” Mikey deadpans, then looks at the big hand that’s just been placed on his shoulder.
Ran smacks the coral shorts from Sanzu’s hands and tosses it to the ground; earning a hard earned scowl from the pink haired male himself. “Put that childish shit away” Ran somehow magically pulls out a tiny speedo from what Manjiro thinks is thin air and hands it gently to Mikey, as if it’s some sacred artifact. “Here, bless the guests with this.”
“You’re both ridiculous. I’m staying in this, and that's that.”
‘This’ consisted of a simple black tank top and matching long black shorts. It was a plain fit, compared to all his friends who’d decided to come shirtless, but Mikey didn’t mind.
He liked plain.
Besides, it’s not like he had anybody to impress. It was just him and his frien—
“You’re finally here! God, we thought you’d never come.”
There’s no way. There’s absolutely no way. Mikey looks up at Ran who refuses to make eye contact; instead, opting on waving you and your friends over.
The sound of footsteps gets louder and before you collide into Mikey, arms wrapping around his body as you hug him from behind. “It’s nice to see you outside finally.” You speak into the back of his shirt, oblivious to the blush creeping up on his face from the close proximity.
“Yeah…” Everything stands still for Mikey, even his lungs—refusing to take another breath until you’re at least a couple miles away from him.
Your best friend, Maki, moves past the two of you, straight into the boot of Koko’s car. She tugs the back of Rindou’s shirt, pulling him back towards her, close enough for a whisper. “Did you…bring the stuff?” She asks, looking at the booth, highly disappointed in the contents.
It’s just a blue cooler, filled with ice and water and popsicles. Nothing amazing. Rindou smiles down at her, the look on his face has her grinning also as she watches him reach into his pocket, pulling out a packet of brownies.
“Ooh!” Maki reaches out for it only for Rindou to pull back just as fast, lifting it over his head.
“You’re insane if you think they’re getting in your hands.”
“Wha-why?! I asked for them!”
Mikey drowns out the rest of their conversation and tries his hardest not to focus on the sight of you, standing unnervingly close to him, the bare skin on your arms rubbing against his own, and he suddenly regrets wearing a tank top.
“Are you excited?” You turn to face him with a smile on your face as you walk over to grab the big cooler from the boot of the car. The others have already started to make their way into the beach, leaving just you and Manjiro alone together.
Mikey can’t help but think it’s a little weird that they’ve suddenly just “disappeared” into the distance. Sanzu most definitely would’ve waited for Mikey to walk in first, but he shoved that thought aside and subtly takes the cooler from your hands, seeing as you were struggling with it.
“Thanks Mikey,” you grab onto his shoulder and squeeze it, gently, giving him your best smile.
He ignores the way his heart stutters at the action and your smile. “Yeah, no problem.” It’s astonishing just how easily he lifts the cooler the long distance from the car to the empty beach spot.
“Whys it so empty?” Sanzu complains at the lack of people, only a family in the distance, watching their kid cautiously as he picks shells from the ocean.
“Probably because it’s Sunday.” Koko responds, taking out his sunglasses. “Now, nobody talk to me. I want to tan.”
“I wanna get a tan too.” Maki slips off her shirt revealing her bikini underneath. She flops down next to Koko and pushes him to get more room on the thin blanket Koko brought.
“Okay, well, I gotta go.” Ran comments, giving you a look that Mikey cannot decipher. You nod your head and start looking through your purse, smiling when you bring out sunscreen.
“Mikey, can you help me out this on?” You blink at him, holding the blue bottle out in front of him. Mikey is about to protest, telling you to ask someone else to help you but Ran is dragging the others away to some random part of the empty beach. Mikey turns to face Koko who simply shakes his head at him, lifting a hand to tell him no.
“Well?”
Mikey makes the mistake of looking into your eyes once more, seeing the pure desperation it holds as you wiggle the bottle in front of you.  “Okay, fine.”
“Thanks Mikey!” You contemplate giving him a kiss on the cheek, but realise that might be a little too far. You sit down on the sand, a hand darting out to wrap around Mikey’s wrist, pulling him down to the ground with you.
You remain staring at him the entire time he opens the bottle and squirts some sunscreen on his hands, rubbing his palms together before lifting your arm up to gentle rub the lotion into your skin.
It’s the second time today he’s made the mistake of staring at your face, how you don’t take your eyes off him the entire time. He looks down to see the sunscreen has completely dissolved, the white colour now disappearing and leaving your arm back to its original tone.
You don’t hesitate lifting your other arm up for him to do the same.
This isn’t that bad. Mikey thinks. He thought it would’ve been way worse.
Oh, how wrong he was.
You turn around, unbuttoning your t-shirt and toss it next to you, then turn around and back yourself way too close for comfort. The curve of your ass rubbing against his shorts as you peek over your shoulder and politely ask him to rub your back.
Mikey swallows.
Like actually gulps.
He eyes the skin on your back, only a thin laced strap connecting the bikini top—only that flimsy material stopping himself from seeing your body.
He doesn’t respond, instead gets to work, grabbing more sunscreen and rubbing it against his fingers.
Your back arches from the coldness of the sunscreen, but the warmth from his hands plus the scorching sun warms your back up in no time. He makes quick work, rubbing the lotion across your bare back, slipping his fingers through the strap of your bikini top to get that area too.
Once he reaches your shoulders, you tilt your head to the side slightly to give him easier access before letting out a soft sigh. “Your hands feel so good, Manjiro.”
“They do?”
“Yeah.”
Mikey doesn’t respond to that. He doesn’t know what to respond. So he stays silent. You initially frown and look over to your friend who shrugs, not knowing what to do either.
It’s so hard to win Manjiro‘s heart. You’ve been trying for almost two years and he either ignores all your advances, or is too oblivious to them.
“All done.” Mikey lifts his hands off your shoulders and you smile at him before looking around, thinking of Plan B. He watches you scramble over to the cooler a couple feet away from you, and tries to keep his eyes anywhere but your body. (Your bikini is currently sticking to your ass, leaving one cheek completely exposed).
His eyes widen once he realises it, looking up at the sky instead, or maybe the ocean looks better? But from the corner of his eye, he can see you kneel as you scour through the cooler, grabbing a popsicle.
Two popsicles, actually.
You grab a strawberry one for you, an orange one for him. You crawl your way back to where he is, eagerly handing him the sweet treat.
“Thanks…” He takes it from you but doesn’t open it. You, on the other hand, eagerly unwrap it and lay down on your back, exposing your body to the sun.
It’s probably not ideal to eat laying down. But you don’t care. You’re getting desperate at this point.
“Koko, how’s life going?” You ask, unwrapping the popsicle and taking slow licks from bottom to top. You can feel his eyes on yours—well, on your tongue, flattening it out as you take even slower licks, sucking on the top every time you reach it.
Mikey completely drowns out the conversation between you, Maki and Kokonoi. Instead, he watches with intense focus as your lips wrap around the tip, pushing the popsicle further down your throat.
No normal person eats a popsicle like this.
Right?
No one tries to literally deep throat it. Mikey is confused, but he doesn’t question it, instead tried to not focus on his cock twitching through his shorts.
Fuck, look somewhere else. It’s hard, but he finally rips his eyes away from you, instead, scanning the beach for signs of his friends.
On the far end of the beach, Ran and his brother are teaching some kid how to build a sand castle whilst Sanzu kicks it, causing the kid to cry after a couple moments.
Idiots. Mikey thinks, bringing his gaze back over to the people around him. Maki stands up and stretches, mumbling something before running over to stop Sanzu from breaking that kids heart.
Koko sighs, following after her.
Now it’s just you two.
You turn and face him, popsicle still in your mouth, before you take it out, very slowly. Slow enough for Mikey to see the leftover juice stain your lips red. You lick at your lips, trying to remove it all before you notice the melted popsicle in Mikey’s hand.
“You didn’t eat it! Now it’s melted.” You complain, pointing at the treat.
Mikey simply lifts it up, and shrugs. “Oh.”
“You can have mine, if you want.” You hold yours out to him and Mikey looks at you, wondering if this is some sick joke. You’re looking at him, dead serious, as you hand it to him.
He holds it up for a while, not breaking eye contact with you, and the popsicle starts to dribble red down his arm. “Oh, fuck.” Mikey hands you back the popsicle and is about to wipe the juice from his arm before you hold it out and stop him.
He wonders what you’re doing, eyes blowing out of his skull when he sees your tongue dart out, licking a long stripe from bottom to top, stopping at his index finger, waiting a couple moments before releasing your mouth from the tip.
Neither of you say anything, or do anything.
It’s silent as Mikey takes a second to just process what the fuck.
“Okay—fuck, come here.” He wipes his hands on his shorts, grabs your hips and pushes you onto his lap. You giggle into the kiss, hands cupping his face as you moan softly into his mouth when his hands slide down from your hips down to your ass.
“Finally.” You mutter into his lips, breaking the brief makeout to sloppily kiss along the column of his throat. You can feel his Adam’s apple twitch as he swallows, a shaky exhale leaving his lips as his hands come up to your hair to grab at it.
“How long were you acting oblivious?” You mumble against his skin, sliding your hands up and down his chest before slipping them under his shirt to feel him.
“I wasn’t—fuck—acting—” He groans when you rub his cock through his shorts and bite at the skin on his neck at the same time.
“Sure you were.” You giggle, making him swallow once more because your lips tickle and vibrate against his skin.
You push him down onto the ground, successfully straddling him as you grind your hips down against his hard cock. You lean down once more, taking his lips in a heated kiss.
It’s not until a loud car honks by the car park that you break the kiss, to look up. A bunch of cars have now pulled up, now the beach will be full.
“Great.” You sigh, getting off his lap. “Maybe next time?” You brush the hair away from his face, leaning down once more to kiss at his lips before pulling away.
“Yeah, next time.”

When Mikey loves you, you wouldn't really hear much words of affirmations.
But you could see it when he would split half of his taiyaki for you, feeding you with his hand and wiping off the remnants on your lips with his soft, gentle thumb.
You would see it when he would ask Draken for a helmet, made for you. So when the both of you go out on your weekly, night ride, he would sit you up on your special seat, while he strap the helmet onto you, making sure your hair looks fine because "I spend so much time making my hair looks good!",you said, and he remembered of course. He didn't ride fast, but enough to have you embracing his chest as he subconsciously held onto your hand, giving it a little squeeze.
You would see his love when he would take out an album of him and his little family. He would then explain what happened in those pictures. Like the time where he tried to cook some Melon Bread but ended up having flour all over him, or pictures of his brother, as his lips smiled, soft with a tinge of sadness. He'll also show you the early pictures of Toman, and he would tell you glorious stories of his mates, and you could see the proud look on his face. Mikey shares his memories when he loves.
You would see it the most when he's at his lowest. Yes, Draken had been the closest to his heart but when you came? There were indeed no words when you heard the engine of his motor at night, but when you would open the door to your house, and the immediate hug from him, that was the rawest he had ever been. The shakiness of his shoulders, the silent sobs as you fell down on your knees with him in yours arms, cradling the broken pieces of him. You would stroke his hair, soothing him and he would tighten his hold, as he slowly speaks of what's bothering him.
Mikey doesn't really show his love through words but you never failed to see his love. It's true, it's pure and it's beautiful. It's intimate and raw and you would never trade it for anything. Mikey loves, and he loves hard, and no one loves more than a person who shows instead of uttering mindless words.

❝one day i will stop falling in love with you, some day, someone will like me like i like you.❞
♡ manjiro sano ♡
a/n: current mood - wanting to breaking people’s hearts 😈 (sorry mikey stans)
content: mikey x reader (y/n), very heavy angst, right person wrong time, you’re mikey’s childhood friend, he’s getting married (lolz), not grammatically checked/edited
...
you finished adding the final touches to your makeup, a heavy sigh leaving your lips as you checked in the mirror if your concealer hid your puffy eyes well. some would say that whatever you were going through was tragic, a scenario that you would read about in romance novels where the main character is destined to a miserable fate.
and perhaps that was right.
you’ve been feeling miserable, sad and pathetic for the last month and a half since you’ve received the invitation. a piece of paper that felt like a sharp knife slicing your heart in half.
what was worse was that you couldn’t even find it in your heart to throw away the card. it was beautifully decorated with happy pastel colors and confetti, printed on expensive card stock, pop-up designs and a photo of him with the girl that was supposed to be you.
it was your childhood friend’s wedding, except for the catch that you’ve been holding in a burdening crush on him for the last twenty years. he was your person and you were his, being there for each other through thick and thin.
you both created a world where it was just the two of you while everyone else became a blur, a bunch of white noise. he was the invincible mikey and you were his key.
you couldn’t help but wonder, when did things change so fast? how did the perfect world you both created become nothing but dust?
---
“how is she, doc?” the young boy with a dragon tatted on his skull asked curiously as he stared at his friend, well practically family, in concern.
“it was just an upset stomach, little man. we gave your sister some antibiotics to fight off those nasty little germs that’s been bothering her. she’ll be good in a few days. you sure you don’t have a parent or older family member we can contact?” the doctor asked, cocking an eyebrow as he held the pen in his hand eagerly, hoping the blonde boy would say something to him.
“we’re orphans and she’s not my real sister. we have someone that’s been taking care of us for all these years and he’ll come by shortly.” he murmured, shame painting his face as his gaze went down to the floor.
the doctor looked at him with sorrow, patting his head.
“hang tight, buddy. keep her company, but don’t make her laugh too much or else it might make her cry.” he tried to create humor and it successfully made the frowning by crack a crooked smile.
“yes, sir!” the little boy playfully saluted as he watched the man in the white coat walk away with a chuckle.
“ken?” his ears rang up when hearing your faint call of his name, a small whimper following after.
“y/n! are you hurting anywhere? should i call the doctor back? uncle’s gonna be here soon with remi. i told them to bring your favorite chocolate pudding.” draken gave you a cheeky grin, his hand now holding yours tightly.
“you know me so well, sometimes i forget that i’m an orphan.” you laughed quietly, trying to not put strain on your stomach.
“you’re not an orphan, y/n. you got me, uncle, remi and the other girls too. we’re one big happy family.” he persisted, eyebrows furrowing as he tried his best to convince you to believe his point.
“you told the doctor that i’m not your sister, ken.” you whispered, your throat becoming dry as the words left your mouth. draken fell silent for a few seconds before sighing, laying his head besides your hand.
“i told him that you’re not my real sister, y/n. there’s a difference. i don’t care what the law says because my heart says otherwise. you’ll always be the sister that i’ve always dreamed of having.” his eyes twinkled, a hand coming up to ruffle your hair.
“so i heard one of my little girls was sick? maybe some chocolate pudding will make those little bad guys in your stomach go away.” your uncle’s voice boomed in your ward, a small smile plastered on his face as he shook the white plastic bag.
your eyes glimmered in content before you were pulled into a bear hug by remi. the girl sobbed on your shoulder, wetting it with tears and snot as she roared by your ears.
“y/nnnn!!!! i thought you were gonna die when kenny told uncle! i love you, y/n, don’t leave ever me. ever.” she hiccuped between every word as your uncle and draken tried to console her and calm her down.
“it was a stomach bug, remi. i’ll be better in a few days.” you tried to cheer her up. she raised her head, looking at you in doubt.
“promise?” remi sniffled.
“promise, you know i’d never lie to you.” you wiped away her tears before hugging her once more.
your uncle handed the three of you the small containers of chocolate pudding.
“why don’t you three take a walk outside, i’ll have this really nice nurse walk you guys. it’s good to get some fresh air.” the doctor said, patting your back and you all agreed, soon leaving the room.
you happily skipped through the hallway, one pudding container in your pocket, while the other one was tightly secured in your hand as you ate it.
“let’s play hide and seek, you’re the seeker ken!” you quickly blurted out, not giving either of them a choice before running off to the other direction. you faintly heard draken groan in annoyance, being tired of always being the seeker but he’d always do it for you.
you saw a pretty quiet hallway and decided to turn to that corner, only to find a small quiet room. you figured that it wouldn’t be too much of a trouble to hide in here for a few minutes
you opened the door, nearly having a heart attack from the sudden appearance of another person. it was a boy with short blonde hair, he was huddled up into a ball, quietly whimpering and crying.
“hey, kid.” you called out to him, only to not receive a response. a heavy sigh left your lips as you walked over to him, sitting on the floor besides him. the boy looked up at you, eyes all puffy and his nose red.
he’s pretty cute.
“look, i’m really bad at comforting people. but, when i’m super sad, i eat chocolate pudding to make me happy again.” you said with a grin, digging in your pocket to get your other container out.
you grabbed his hand and opened his palm before placing the treat in it. he stared at it in momentary silence.
“who are you?” he finally spoke, looking at you with slight confusion.
“just a stranger who’s hiding from her siblings in an intense game of hide and seek. what about you?” you chuckled, scooping another bite into your mouth.
“i’m.. i don’t know.” he said with a shaky breath, shaking his head.
“that’s fine, we don’t always know the answer to everything. ken is really mean sometimes, he’s a year older than me and asked me what 345 times 82 is. i could bet you my whole stash of chocolate pudding that he doesn’t know himself. tch, smart my ass.” you scoffed, earning a small giggle from your side. you side eyed him, seeing him detach the small spoon from the plastic lid before opening it.
“what’s your name?” he asked you, eyes anticipating for an answer.
“y/n. you?” you continued to inhale your treat as you waited for him to respond.
“mikey.” the blonde boy scooped in a hefty amount into his mouth as he consumed the sweet dessert.
“why were you crying, mikey?” you asked, not realizing how insensitive you were being.
“it’s personal.” mikey shortly dismissed, but you were a little slow to understand and continued to persist until he caved in.
“it’s just me and you in here. think of it as a bubble with just us, nothing comes in or goes out of this bubble.” you assured him, patting his back.
for some strange reason, mikey felt like he could tell you anything from how comfortable you made him feel. considering the fact that he didn’t want to show any kind of reaction or emotion towards his family, he decided to seek that comfort and release in you.
“my mother just died, about an hour ago.” he bluntly dropped the bomb, placing a very awkward and tense atmosphere between you both.
“you’ll get over it, mikey.” you calmly answered, making his brows furrow with annoyance and slight anger.
“how could you say that to me? my mother just died.” mikey said in disbelief, his tone heightening a little.
“i’m telling you the truth. i’m sorry that this happened to you, especially at such a young age, but it’ll all pass and soon, today will just be one of your many bad memories. you’ll find peace and love one day and heal, mikey. that’s life.” you defended your previous statement, looking into his eyes with a gentle look.
“and how do you know that? you’re just some ten-year-old weirdo that walked in on me.” he mumbled under his breath, making you giggle.
“i’m an orphan, mikey. i don’t even know what my parents look like or if i even have any to begin with. not even any knowledge on if i have sibling or not. ken and remi aren’t my real siblings, just people i grew up with.” you shrugged, making the blonde boy thin his lips.
“i’m sorry.” he apologized, his gaze lowering to meet his shoes.
“it’s not your fault. there’s too much love in this world to be consumed by regret or grief. i’m not saying that you shouldn’t grieve, but you have to pick yourself up and continue with the rest of your life eventually. it’s what your mom would’ve wanted, mikey.” you ruffled his hair as his eyes shimmered with hope.
“thanks, i’ll try. also, promise me that you won’t tell anyone about me crying.” mikey gave you a embarrassed look, holding up his pinky.
“i promise.” you intertwined yours with his.
suddenly, the door flew open, which startled the both of you.
“found you!”
---
“i’m really sorry, sir.” the doctor heavily sighed, trying to pat your uncle’s back as the man sobbed in his palms.
“how bad is it? please, tell me she has time! she’s only ten, i want to be able to walk her down the aisle one day.” your uncle begged, choking between every word and cry.
“the tumor in right in the middle of her brain, wrapping around each and every blood vessel. it’s to aggressive for us to remove it, i’m sorry once again, but it’s inoperable. she’ll bleed out before we can even remove a centimeter of it. with proper treatment and medications, we’re looking at maybe ten more years.” the doctor replied, making your uncle rub his temples in worry.
“uncle!! meet my new friend, mikey! they live on the next block from our house.” you vibrant voice broke the depressing atmosphere. your uncle quickly wiped away his tears, giving you all a smile.
“hey, i remember you! you were in s.s motors with shinichiro.” your uncle patted mikey’s head.
“he’s my big brother.” mikey answered.
“i see, why don’t you come and have lunch with us. we’re going out for burgers, i’ll text your brother that you’re with us.” your uncle suggested, making the small blonde boy nod his head.
and just like that, the both of you became inseparable.
---
high school came around and you were the only thing that was piecing manjiro sano, or rather the invincible mikey, together. he formed a gang and that included your brother in it as well. you all were a pretty tight group to say the least, yet no one could truly understand him better than you could.
not even his right-hand men such as draken or sanzu.
“i think i’m gonna disband toman and move away for some time, you now escape life for a little.” he sighed, opening the lid of the chocolate pudding before handing it to you.
“where’s yours?” you asked, confused as to why he only got one.
“didn’t want one.” he shrugged, digging in his pocket before pulling out a box of cigarettes. he plucked one of the cancer sticks out, planting it in between his lips before lighting it.
you watched him in disappointment, as he inhaled the smoke before coughing it out, eyes becoming watery as you scoffed.
“dumbass, give me that.” you grabbed the stick before throwing it on the ground, stepping on it.
“and that.” you grabbed the pack out of his hands before tossing it into the trash.
“y/n.” mikey called out.
“no, i’m really mad at you. i can’t believe you, mikey. pull that type of shit again and i’ll bury you, i swear. no girl would ever want to kiss you with a mouth like that.” you scoffed, flicking his forehead as he winced in pain.
“not even you?” he teased.
“i’d rather kiss a roach.” you playfully punched his bicep, earning a small laugh from him.
“they only had one pudding left, so i didn’t get one for myself.” he explained himself.
“we could always share, idiot. say ah.” you ordered, scooping a hefty amount of pudding before placing the spoon near his lips. he opened his mouth, eating it with content.
“see, much better than cigarettes. but i was being serious, mikey, i don’t wanna see those near your lips or reach ever again. swear on my life?” you glared at him, making him choke.
“hey! why are you giving me such a harsh swear??” he cleared his throat.
“so you’re saying you’ll lie and do it behind my back?!” you yelled, making him quickly shake his head.
“no, no, no! that’s not what i meant. i’m just saying that isn’t it such a big swear for something so stupid?” mikey tried to reason.
“your health is not stupid, mikey. don’t push my buttons and swear already.” you rolled your eyes, making him sigh.
“fine, i swear.” he said in defeat, stealing the reamining of your pudding to eat.
“hm, good. oh, going back to what you were saying earlier, why so suddenly?” you questioned, backtracking to the previous conversation before you both got out of topic.
“i don’t know, i feel like i’m bringing in my toxic energy in and engulfing everyone. maybe i should just let it all go and step back, you know? even you need a break from me to be honest.” he bitterly laughed. you kissed your teeth before grabbing a hold of his face, turning it to face you as you stared sternly at him.
“mikey, i’m not going anywhere. what i promised you seven years will never break, even after we die. our souls are one, and i can’t leave my other half. so, let me run away with you. wherever you want, ill follow right behind you.” you gave him a soft smile, caressing his cheeks lovingly. his expression grew softer, tears welling in his eyes as he buried his face in your chest. you wrapped your arms around him, kissing the top of his head.
it’s been rough on him, especially after losing shinichiro too in an accident. mikey’s been in a really dark place for a few months, shit, even scary if you were honest. he was snappy, rude, all dark and twisty. yet, you never gave up on him.
because you knew that at the end of the day, he was still the same small boy you found in that closet crying to himself.
“y/n, promise me something.” mikey sniffled, pulling away as he looked up at you, eyes holding so much vulnerability.
“i promised my entire life to you, what more should i promise?”you joked, wiping away his tears with the pads of your thumb.
“if we don’t find someone by the age of thirty, let’s get married. i’d rather spend the rest of my life with you than all alone.” he offered, a boyish smile dancing on his lips as your heart fluttered.
you could’ve sworn that it skipped a few beats, making it suddenly harder to breathe as your cheeks grew warm.
“stop fucking around with me, sano. it’s not funny.” you warned him, but his expression remained the same.
“you’re being deadass?” your eyes grew wide and he hummed in response.
“so, are you in or not?” the blonde boy cocked an eyebrow as he held out his pinkie, making you chuckle.
“jeez, it seems like you’re making a life or death contract with me. yes, i’m in.” you answered, intertwining your pinkie with his.
and to think that what you’ve been dreaming of for years were to come true would become only a nightmare.
it’s not until emma’s death where mikey completely disappeared, not answering anyones calls or even yours. you spent days trying to look for him all over the city and even begging koko to somehow track his number or something.
but every effort went in vain.
you cried for months, refusing to eat and giving up on the sweet treat that only reminded you of him. you had nightmares every night, and the only thought that circled your mind was that he was dead.
he was really gone.
until after nearly nine years, he came back. not alone, but accompanied with another person.
a girl, his girl, to be precise.
mikey went to the philippines for those years, returning with a completely new get up that would make it hard for anyone to guess that it was him. his beautiful blonde locks were now cut short with an undercut, dyed black.
you remembered the first day where he showed up at your doorsteps, your knees turned into jelly as you almost collapsed to the group if he didn’t catch you in time. you cried in his arms for so long, cursing and punching him from pain and anger as he whispered thousands of apologies to you.
you were happy, so fucking happy to see that he was alive. it put your mind and heart to peace, until you saw her walk out of the car.
“this is my girlfriend, y/n. we met a few years back and she’s just amazing, you know. i wanted you to meet the most important person of my life first since you’re my best friend.” he mischievously giggled, snaking an arm around her waist.
your throat became dry, heart shattering into a billion pieces as each word leaving his lips was like knives jabbing at your heart. it bled, threatening to leak out of your eyes. yet, you held back, trying your hardest to fake a realistic smile to keep your cool.
“nice to meet you.” you shook her hand.
“the pleasure’s all mine, mikey’s told me a lot about you.” she said, making you awkwardly laugh.
“oh, i see.” you dryly replied, clearing your throat.
“these are for you by the way, it’s a recipe that’s really sacred to my family. i hope you enjoy.” she smiled, handing you a box of what seemed like cookies.
fuck, i can’t even bring myself to hate her.
“thank you, that’s really sweet of you. uh, you both should stay over for lunch.” you offered, secretly praying that they refuse.
“sorry, y/n, i gotta get my bike inspected by ken-chin. next time, yeah?” he ruffled your hair, as you managed to let out a small hum. you waved them goodbye before entering your house, locking the door behind you.
you fell on your knees, letting out all the tears that you’ve been holding in. your cry was ugly, gut-wrenching and painful as it stole all the oxygen from your lungs and made you gag and choke.
it felt like someone died, well, it was sort of like that.
mikey was no longer yours, he was somebody’s else’s. you were all alone now.
you’re the other woman.
you probably shed a gallon of tears by now, trying your best to turn off the water tap glued on your eyes. but, the image of him snaking his arm around her waist never left your mind.
you glanced at the box of cookies on the floor, opening the lid to grab one and take a bite.
“fuck, they taste delicious too.” you cried, throwing it back in the box as you decided that it’ll be best to call out of work sick for tomorrow.
---
the day has finally come, where you have to let him go. he was no longer yours, those days will never come back, now only a happy memory that you can confide to for comfort.
“y/n, you don’t have to do this.” draken sighed, placing a hand on your shoulder but you shook your head, determined to attend that damn wedding.
“i have to, ken. he’s my best friend, i can do at least this much for him.” you answered, fixing up the green dress that you wore before putting on your earrings.
“be selfish for once, y/n! i know that you love him, alright? i’ve been living with you since diapers, i know you like the back of my hand. you can lie to anyone but me, i know that you’re not okay. which is why i’m telling you that you don’t have to do this. i’ll tell him that you’re sick or something.” draken’s eyes softened, his expresison growing sad as he looked at your pained expression. you were smiling at him, yet he knew the thousands of thoughts and words that littered your mind.
“ken, i know. the only way i could give myself closure is by seeing it happen, in front of my eyes. i want my last memory of him to be happy and clear, so that when i think of him, i don’t feel pain or misery. if he’s happy then i’m happy because we are each others halves and no one can take that spot. besides, his fiance is so nice, i can’t even bring myself to hate her. he’ll be fine, i know he will.” you explained, grabbing drakens hands as you gave it a tight squeeze, looking up at the tall man that stood before you.
he bit his lips to contain himself from arguing back, caressing your cheeks before letting out a sigh. he nodded his head, deciding to butt-out of your business.
“okay, whatever makes you happy.” he said and you hummed in response before getting up to slip on your heels.
“let’s go, we have a wedding to go to.” you smiled at him, slipped your arm in his as you guys walked out of your house.
the drive to the church was short as it was the same one where hina and takemichi got married. you entered the ladies room where all the bridesmaids were getting dressed up as they all waited for you since you were the maid of honor.
“y/n, you’re here! god, you look gorgeous, maybe i should ditch mikey and marry you instead.” she joked, pulling you into a hug as you chuckled, patting her back.
“you look even prettier. damn, mikey caught a good one i gotta say.” you answered looking at her with eyes full of nothing but adoration.
she was sweet and understanding, a perfect wife for mikey. he deserved this, after being through hell and back, he deserved happiness and peace.
and you were willing to do anything to give him that, even if it meant to go to the ends of the earth and come back.
“it’s almost time! come on ladies, get in position.” one of the bridesmaids announced.
“i’ll see you at the aisle.” you rubbed her shoulder as she hummed, then taking your leave as you entered the wedding hall. you walked up where the priest stood, mikey standing right across you.
his eyes widened when he saw you, walking up to you without hesitation. he pulled you into a tight hug before pulling away with a smile.
“you look absolutely beautiful, y/n, as always. i’m so happy that you’re here, i was honestly so nervous, but after seeing you, i got my courage back.” he honestly said, making it hard for you to form words to respond to him.
“better not chicken out sano, i raised you better than that.” you playfully scolded him.
“yes ma’am!” he jokingly saluted, making you both laugh.
“mr. sano, please stand in position, the bride will enter in a few minutes.” the priest interrupted.
“sorry. i’ll talk to you after the ceremony, okay?” he held your hands, giving it a tight squeeze and you swore that if he was just a hair more closer, you would’ve broken down into tears.
“yeah, yeah, of course. go get married, sano.” you teased, making him blush as he walked back to his original position. you stood with one ring while draken stood with the other, the taller glancing at you frequently to check if you’re okay and you’d discreetly try to nod and give him the signal that you’re fine.
the music began to play and the doors opened, revealing mikey’s soon to be wife, now walking in with her father. a huge smile or her face as you looked over at mikey, only to catch him staring at you before averting his gaze to his wife.
she walked up the steps, now standing besides you as she turned to look at her soon to be husband. the priest began to read the wedding vows and it was soon time to exchange rings. the beautiful diamond ring glimmered under your eyes and you couldn’t help but wished it was for you.
it fit perfectly, like it was made for you and you knew that because you accompanied mikey when he went ring shopping. it was unfortunate to know that his fiance’s ring size was the same as you, so you helped him pick and size it. you remember not being able to take your eyes off of it as soon as he slipped it onto your finger. you felt chills as his skin touched yours, but now, it was reality; only not yours but hers.
“do you, _____, take manjiro sano as your wedded husband, to cherish in love and in friendship, in sickness and in health, in success and in disappointment, to love him faithfully, today, tomorrow, and for as long as the two of you shall live?” the priest asked, and without hesitation⸻
“i do.” she said with the brightest smile, giving him the most lovesick eyes known to mankind.
“do you, manjiro sano, take _____ as your wedded wife, to cherish in love and in friendship, in sickness and in health, in success and in disappointment, to love him faithfully, today, tomorrow, and for as long as the two of you shall live?” he now asked the groom, and to your surpise, mikey’s eyes were only focused on you.
please, say no, mikey. say no! you’re mine and i’m yours, it always been like that. please, say no.
your mind screamed and your heart bled, hoping for some miracle to change the events to bring it in your favors. but to your disappointment, none of that happened. he gave you a small smile before glancing at his bride.
“i do.” mikey said and the priest suddenly glanced at everyone in the room.
“any objections?” he loudly asked, as a moment of silence fell in the whole room.
me! i object. this wedding shouldn’t be happening, not even in a million years. that should be me in that dress and ring, not her. i don’t want to be the other woman.
“that’s a no then. i now pronounce you husband and wife. you may kiss the bride.” and with that being said, you averted your gaze to the bouquet of flowers as the crowd roared with cheers while they both kissed.
a few tears slipped from your eyes but you managed to quickly wipe them away, praying that nobody saw them. to which nobody did, except for draken as the man look at you with nothing but an aching heart to see you this heartbroken.
the after party was great, from the table of stories and lunch too. the cake was amazing as well, coming from the bakery that you and mikey often went to for study dates during your teen years.
“y/n! there you are, i’ve been looking for you everywhere. i just wanted to come here and thank you again for helping out with everything. you’re amazing and i’m so happy to know someone like you.” mikey’s wife came to you and pulled you into a hug, as you pat her back.
“of course, i wish you both the best of luck and a lot of happiness. treat him good, okay? he’s been through so much and he really deserves this. he’s a little childish and stubborn at times but he’s so sweet. he’s great and it breaks my heart to give him away but he’ll be okay. i know he will, he’s mikey after all.” you laughed, making her break into one as well.
“mhm, you got it!” she smiled at you once more before being whisked away by another relative for pictures.
“looks like you’re busy.” you heard a familiar voice behind you, turning around to see mikey grinning at you.
“yup, busy practicing how to spend the rest of my life alone without my other half.” you teased, making him chuckle.
“i suppose if you’re not too busy then you can spare some time to have a dance with me?” mikey wiggled his eyebrows, making your lips curl as you took his hand, being pulled away to the dance floor.
you wrap your arms around his neck as his arms snake around your waist. you both sway to the song and it felt like once again everyone else was just a blur and you both were now back in your own world, just the two of you.
“thank you, y/n. for everything, from beginning to end. i’ll never be able to repay you for everything that you’ve done for me. without you, i don’t think i’d even be standing here. you’re my one and only, forever and always; my other half.” he genuinely spoke, eyes glimmering with love and adoration, turning your brain into a bunch of mush and heart becoming all fuzzy.
“you just got married, mikey, don’t make your wife turn against me by saying those kind of things.” you chuckled, making him crack a smile.
“i mean it, you’re very special to me, y/n.” mikey said, tucking in a piece of hair behind your ear. you felt suffocated, feeling your airways and chest tightening. you couldn’t tell if it was from all that food you stress-ate or the feelings that threatened to pour out right this moment.
“can we go somewhere private, i gotta tell you something.” you urgently ushered him, as he quickly nodded his head before being dragged away to the groom’s room.
you quickly closed the door behind you, locking it before turning to face him. mikey grew concerned at your behavior and silence as he constantly asked if you were okay.
“if someone were to ask me what would be the best and worst day of my life, i would tell them that it was the day that i met you.” you breathed out, making mikey tilt his head to the side in confusion.
“huh?” he managed to say.
“it was the day where i found someone that understood me as a person deep from within, knew my every thought and feeling before i even had to say it or act on it. i found my other half, the person that made me, well, me. the person whom i’ve grown to not be able to live without as well. which also brings it to why it’s my worst day as well.” you grew silent, words feeling too heavy to spew out as tears gathered in your eyes.
“the person that i can’t live without, mikey.” you choked out, tears now streaming down your face as mikey’s eyes widened.
“y/n, i don’t under-”
“i love you, okay! not as a friend, but as someone more. i wanted to be the person that you spend the rest of your life with.” you cried, making him gulp harshly.
“i wanted to be your bride.” you sadly laughed, looking up at him with a tear-stained face as your mascara and eyeliner was now smudged.
“oh my god, y/n.” he whispered, trying to pull you into a hug but you quickly stopped him.
“don’t! if you hug me right now, i’ll break and won’t be able to stop myself. please, just hear me out. when we went ring shopping, i never wanted to take it off of my finger and it felt so nice when you put it on me. that night, i went home and couldn’t stop envisioning a future where it was us instead. i’ve loved you ever since we were kids, mikey.” you confessed, making him break into tears as he pulled you into a hug, unable to contain himself.
“then why the hell didn’t you say anything before? you even had the chance to object when the priest said the vows. why didn’t you say anything!” he sobbed, his embrace tightening as if he never wanted to let you go.
“because she’s good, mikey. you need a wife who’s sweet, tender, gentle and understanding. she’s perfect for you, mikey. you’ll be okay, i know you will.” you gave him a sad smile, holding his face as you looked deep into his eyes.
“but you’re also-”
“no, mikey. you need someone who can cherish you and spend many more happy years to come. i can’t give you that.” you sniffled, making him furrow his eyebrows.
“i don’t understand, what’s going on?” mikey panicked.
“i’m dying, mikey. that day that i met you, i was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and it seems that i barely have a full month left to live. i was supposed to be long gone by last month but i guess i was lucky enough to see you get married.” you cried with a smile.
“no, no, you’re lying to me. this can’t be! y/n, this isn’t time for jokes, please, i can’t lose you too. i’ll marry you, i’ll manage something, i promise. please, just don’t leave me.” he begged, holding onto you like you would disappear from his reach if he were to let go.
“mikey, don’t make all of this go into vain. i worked so hard to come to terms with my feelings and get closure. which is why i waited until after the wedding to tell you because even if i do leave you, you’ll have her to be there with you. you need to live for me, and enjoy your life in happiness. okay?” you sobbed, trying to convince him but he kept shaking his head in denial.
“no! please, y/n! i-i-”
“here, make sure to share with her, alright? don’t get too greedy.” you tried to joke to lighten the mood, as you opened his palm to give him the container of chocolate pudding.
“y/n, please.” he cried, but you were stern with your decision. you felt yourself becoming light-headed and the familiar feeling of nausea. it almost felt like you were dying, ironically.
“bye, mikey.” you gave him a soft kiss on his cheek before running out of the room. mikey yelled your name behind like a madman as he ran after you, but you were too ahead. the fresh air hit your skin, sending goosebumps everywhere and it felt like you could breathe again.
you walked over to draken’s car and opened the door, sitting down as you were about to close the door.
“i love you too, y/n! i always have and always will.” was the last thing you heard before slamming the door shut, breaking into tears.
“start the car, ken.” you said in between your sobs, driving away from the church.
“so, you gonna hide from him forever or what? you know, y/n, i never told you how much i love you. well, not like that. but, i’m grateful for having someone like you in my life. i’d do anything to make you smile, you’re the most selfless and kind person i’ve ever met. an angel is what you are.” draken rambled, making you softly chuckle.
“thanks ken, i love you too.” you tiredly slurred your words, draken glancing at you as he stopped at a light, a smile etching on his face.
“seems like you’re tired, let’s get takeout tonight and go to the movies with remi. you know, just like the old days. what do you say?” draken asked, only to be met with silence. he chuckled to himself as he decided to not bother you and let you sleep till you both got home.
draken finished parking the car, calling your name a few times to try and wake you up, but you wouldn’t budge.
“jeez, gonna make me carry your ass up those damn stairs.” he groaned while getting out of the car and opening the door to yours.
“y/n-” he grew quiet, seeing your pale face made his blood run could. draken quickly bent down and put his ear on your heart, two fingers on your wrist.
no beat, no pulse.
“no, no⸻y/n, wake up! please, i need you to wake up!” draken cried, wrapping his arms around your cold and lifeless body to give you some of his warmth.
but it was no use, you were already gone.
