ridiculously specific headcanons (digimon edition)

written for day 3 of @digiweek: "humor"

yamato cannot stay up past 11pm. he can hardly make it to 10:30pm. he's tried, but it's just so hard for him, he's perpetually tired. he doesn't understand how his father works so late when he goes in so early. he's the only one in his family that needs 8-10 hours of sleep to function. he'll be cranky without them.

(takeru functions on 3-6 hrs daily. he prbly didn't sleep much as a baby, while yamato always slept like a rock. this followed them into adolescence. inspiration: me vs my sister's sleep schedule)

mimi loves being called on in class simply cos she likes to put on a show. the dramatics are so fun for her, and if she doesn't know the answer at least she can have a good time about it and she loves entertaining her peers.

iori's socks always have to match. always. he can't leave if they don't match.

you know those kids in school who are like... completely clueless but super cheerful abt it? like they have absolutely no idea what they're doing but it's all goofy smiles & peace signs? confident dumbass energy? that's taichi, and prbly daisuke too. they're very confident in their answers even though they're almost always wrong. swoon. such himbos.

daisuke likes beatboxing. he's not the best at it but his number one fan is chibomon. the rest of the 02 kiddos indulge him. much like everyone indulges takeru's disaster fashion sense.

miyako is so bad at spoiling things in media. she doesn't even mean to, it just comes out, like "did you know character a is finally with character b? i thought for sure they'd pick character c!! oh it was so romantic--" or "i'm so sad they killed of x characterrrrr"

and then "i have not seen it miyako why did you do this to me"

mario kart = a fight to the death. jou always ends up in last place. he's so bad at gaming that it's hilarious to everyone. he can even work out strategies in his head but they don't work in practice.

ken has such a dry, dark sense of humor but he's so shy that it only comes out on accident or if he's super comfortable. this part of his personality usually only surfaces in a group-chat format, cos it's easier to be open in chat but anxiety-inducing in-person

takeru is a total prankster in the sense that he knows what's going on with everyone. like he knows when to stop, he knows how much is too much, and he's respectful, but he also notices all the little things. we've seen this in canon. he's all innocence & sunshine on the outside but a secret mischievous imp on the inside. he's very observant.

like cmon this kid is a writer, he knows things, he can read body language, he notices little details others don't.

imagine yamato going through his google search history, like if he borrows his phone to search something up and all these suspicious things come up

"how much blood can you lose before it's fatal?"

"how to tell if an arm is broken"

"at what point does a person experience hypothermia"

"how to put out a fire quickly"

"can you die from a four-story drop"

yamato is very alarmed & concerned by this discovery. takeru starts searching things on incognito mode.

sora's very meticulous with cleaning. like imagine if, at some point, she & mimi live together

(and they were roommates)

two different kinds of people. one person leaves all the cabinets open. one person makes sure they're all shut. one person uses coasters, and the other doesn't and there are water/soda rings everywhere. one leaves the used blanket on the sofa and the other folds it and puts it away.

needless to say sora has the patience of a saint

Digimon & AO3/Fandom Statistics

While on the Fandom Stats website, I got curious and did some research about the Digimon Fandom!

Disclaimer: These statistics will only be accurate to the Archive of Our Own website, and will not include statistics about the fandom on Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Fanfiction.net

When searching for fanfiction about Digimon on AO3, there are a total of 6,616 underneath the general "Digimon- All Media Types" tag. This is not a fair representation of the total numbers of Digimon fanfiction, as there are FIFTEEN Digimon categories an author could label their story under.

Listing from highest number of fics to fewest fics, these other categories include (as of Nov. 5, 2022):

Digimon - All Media Types: 6,619 fics

Digimon Adventure Zero Two: 2,637 fics

Digimon Adventure: 2,037 fics

Digimon Adventure tri: 1,043 fics

Digimon Tamers: 602 fics

Digimon Frontier: 575 fics 

Digimon Xros Wars/ Digimon Fusion: 172 fics

Digimon Savers/ Digimon Data Squad: 150 fics

Digimon Universe - Appli Monsters: 125 fics

After inputting all of this data (aside from the “Digimon - All Media Types” tag, as this tag can reference all Digimon media) into a graph, it is clear to see which characters the fandom tends to favor:

Digimon Adventure Zero Two takes the lead, while Digimon Adventure follows close behind. Between the two, there is only a difference of 600 fics. These numbers are unsurprising, as most Digimon official events revolve around the Adventure and 02 cast!

According to the Fandom Stats website, fanfiction (specifically AO3) in the Digimon Fandom heavily gravitates towards General Audiences, with a total number of 2,551 fics using this tag. Other tags include:

While Teen and Up Audiences have 2,214, Mature and Explicitly tagged fics have a combined 1,307 fics. 

Now, onto the pairings! Though 35% of the fics are general, the other 65% of fics include some kind of romance!

In the lead, we have M/M relationships at 33%. Of these 2,155 fics, 29.7% are Daisuke/Ken! Taichi/Yamato are a close second at 22.5%. (Taichi/Koushiro comes in at 7.5%, and Daisuke/Takeru is last at 6.2%.)

With 1,889 fics, F/M relationships share 29% of the total non-general fics. Of these, 18.6 percent are Takeru/Hikari! Sora/Yamato cover 17.7%, while Taichi/Sora covers 8.6%. Lastly, we have Mimi/Koushiro at 7%.

I couldn’t find any statistics on F/F, Multi, or the Other categories, but I will try to search in the future.

On the Archive of Our Own website, the fandom shows clear favoritism in characters and pairings! Now, I wish there was a way to factor in data from Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, and FanFiction.net. Let me know if you have any ideas!

1. THREE SHIPS?

I don’t ship much these days, and I mostly write... OC x Canon content because canon ships are spectacularly boring lately, but lessee my all time favorites.

1) Sasusaku. I was always neutral to the duo, but like people hating on this ship made me like it more, and on top of that we just have so much good art for it + fics. Why wouldn’t I love it?

2) Kaihi: I have this 20 year long love hate relationship with kaihil. Might as well. Worth mentioning. The funniest bit is like, it’s been a while since people I know have been into beyblade, but it’s something they all remember. Like “I used to ship Kai with um, who was that girl. Hilary?” 

3) Taichi x Mimi from Digimon. I LOVE Mimi, but two people who are both annoying and brunettes and loud. Sign me up. I love friendship to lovers as much as enemies to lover when done well.

Who said “I love you” first: OH Mimi. 100%. Like as soon as she was sure that she loved Taichi not just as a friend, but that she loved him, was in love with him, the big I love you. It was totally her. She also told him, he didn’t have to say it back, not unless he was sure. Her crest is basically honesty, she totally blurts it out when she first things it, no filter. 

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background: Both of them. Mimi for sure, it’s a couple selfie as her inside wallpaper, and Taichi at soccer practice as her lock screen. She has added a bunch of heart emojis onto the picture. Taichi in turn better have her as either his lockscreen or wallpaper or she will just change it so both of them are her. 

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror: Mimi. With lots of hearts and flowers drawn around it. Most times he catches her mid-writing it. 

Who buys the other cheesy gifts: MIMI. Luckily a lot of her gifts are edible so that he doesn’t have to hold on to them all. 

Who initiated the first kiss: Mimi. She just does it. No thinking about it. Leans in and kisses him. 

Who kisses the other awake in the morning: Taichi, he wakes up way before she does. Tbh he kisses her awake and then she falls back asleep. 

Who starts tickle fights: MIMI. Usually ends in making out with each other on the floor though. 

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower bath: Both of them! No reason it can’t be a couple activity. 

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch: Mimi. Luckily for Taichi it isn’t often home made so he doesn’t have to endure whatever sickening creations she’s thought up. He thinks his lifetime of eating his mother’s cooking would prepare him for this but Mimi and his mom live at opposite ends of the food spectrum, and they’re both bad. 

Who was nervous and shy on the first date: Neither, though if one of them was more on the nervous side it was Taichi as Mimi has never been nervous or shy about anything a day in her life. 

Who kills/takes out the spiders: Taichi takes them outside. 

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk: Mimi. Not just like to whoever is around but her hundreds of thousands of followers on tiktok too.

Have you ever thought about making a timeline for the Adventure Saga? Like, say in what order the events of the Animes, Movies, Games, CD Dramas, Live Plays occur in the Adventure universe.

Sure, I can try! I don't think I could go as far as listing a timeline of the individual events because of how much of a mess that tends to become (and, honestly, how much personal interpretation is required), but I can try and give a rough outline listing the works involved.

Note that with the exception of the Adventure novels and the stage readings like the ones at DigiFes, Toei and Bandai have never, ever, ever, ever, ever made a statement that you’re supposed to remove anything from canon. If anyone tells you “this thing can’t be canon because (insert some minor plot or lore contradiction here),” that’s something they arbitrarily came up with, that’s never been the official stance. This is especially because Tag Tamers, which is important for 02′s background, has very glaring contradictions with 02 itself, and of course tri., a six-part movie series that has a major timeline or lore contradiction nearly once every five minutes, still fall under the official stance that they’re supposed to be canon. Even with the Adventure novels, which by nature depict mutually exclusive events with the original series for formatting reasons, you’re intended to take most of its background lore and transplant it back into the original series, and the main reason the stage readings aren't considered strict canon is specifically because they're one-off shows that weren't preserved on accessible media, so it's unfair to expect anyone to have to take it into account (and the reason we know this is the official stance isn’t even from an Adventure thing, but from a certain writer getting upset about this from a Tamers thing). So in other words, I’ll be taking pretty much everything I can think of into account. If you have trouble making it make sense, I’ll leave that to you to figure out on your own.

this is inspired by @tangledupblue and her wonderful instagram series. you can find those here, as well as other digimon related things! (please check them out - i love them!)

hikari 

probably has a cute handle - something like @/light.of.your.life or @/hikariferarri (courtesy of takeru). 

is instagram FAMOUS for her photography. she also helps the other chosen take quality pictures for their social medias

she only has facebook so that she can share her mom’s recipes

while she likes snapchat, the updates can get confusing. there have been multiple times where she sent iori a message meant for miyako

hikari loves twitter, but only to find meme to send to the “LIL BABEY MONS” group chat. (in reference to one of her fav vids, THIS).

has a tiktok, but only posts behind-the-scenes shots of photo shoots or asmr day-in-my-life clips.

iori 

he has an instagram, but posts once every 43 weeks

he loves using Facebook to keep up with his family members, kendo pals, and school friends. he only posts selfies that make him look like an old man or the shots hikari captures at his matches.

despite being the youngest chosen, he really acts like the oldest. he doesnt really get all of the "twitting" and "chat snapping". why don't people just send emails anymore?

he only downloaded snapchat because miyako threatened him with his life kindly suggested that he be apart of the "LIL BABEY MONS" group chat

this boy is a twitter KING

he can literally post about his least favorite genre of milk (🤢 skim 🤢) and have thousands of retweets in a few minutes

instagram isnt really his “thing”, but anytime he does post, takeru gives him shit for it

he has to most followers out of anyone in the group, but mimi is a close second

facebook hasn’t been a thing for him since he was eleven and wanted to play farmville

sora

she updates DAILY for her facebook friends

anytime she drinks a diet coke? posted. the horrible incident involving veemon and a lost diaper? written about in detail. 

she is a total mom friend, and most of her pictures consist of piyomon and her friends at their extracurricular activities. 

she runs a fan account for knife of day on twitter. after the band changed their name, most of their follower-base was lost, so sora...became a fandom catfish to give them clout.

once a month, she has to go on a “social media detox” because she used pinterest more than 3 hours.

ken

tries to avoid all social media because people still tag him in his old interviews. (his hair style?  🤢 🤢 his attitude?  🤮 🤮

he also used to be a cyber bully in elementary school. his old email address was [email protected]

he’s on linkedin,,,,,,it’s not that cool

he leaves everyone on read with snapchat. his philosophy is that if the person truly needed him, they would just call

he LOVES making playlists on spotify!!! some of them even have more than ten likes!!!

also, he updates his goodreads daily and makes sure to review every single thing he has ever read.

this boy SPAMS snapchat and his instagram with food pics

he also lowkey runs a thirst-trap tiktok account. his motto is “i do it for the girls and the gays, that’s it.”

his snap score is ASTRONOMICAL, and he probably has well over 300 friends. 

he often posts those “anonymous message” things, but only posts the nice ones because he wants people to think that he is Super Cool.

he tries too hard on instagram, and the other chosen often tease him in the comments

he doesnt really have the time to divulge in social media, so his phone is pretty dry.

she is semi-famous on twitter for starting drama in the “computer enthusiat” community (it isn’t her fault that twelve-year-old boys have the ego of a fully grown daisuke and need to be knock down a peg or few)

miyako is also a life-style vlogger, but her most famous video is titled  “day in the life of a japanese student that casually studied abroad in spain but is back now!!! 🌸 💫 🌈 ”

she also invites mimi onto her channel so that they can make disaster-prone recipes together

koushiro

he has snapchat because it is mimi’s preferred form of communication

anytime kou sees a cool flower or something pretty, he sends it to the girls 

despite being very proficient in computer studies, he refuses to help the girls change the html text of their blogs to make it ombre
