Being able to send Orbot and Cubot away with a spin attack was very satisfying, though Sonic could have done without the burning sensation the action left behind with the patches of his fur being ripped out. He probed at the loose parts of the paper, grimacing at the bits of fur that the sticky paper-like substance took away. It didn’t look like the portions still clinging to his fur and quills was going to be any easier to take off, still being very much stuck to him.

His ears twitched in irritation, because of course while getting rid of the two dunderheads was easy enough, he was still stuck dealing with their mess that they left behind. Of course those two couldn’t have been satisfied with a typical fight like they’ve had plenty of times before. It had to involve such a scheme that somehow winded up with the hedgehog stuck to paper. He couldn’t see the point of it all, besides it being beyond irritating. Though, he supposes that could have been the goal in itself.

“Those two idiots are going to get it the next time I see them. One spin attack definitely wasn’t enough payback,” Sonic grumbled as he continued to fiddle with the paper. He was usually not one for vengeance, but even he was susceptible to the occasional daydream. Especially when provoked to such an extent.

With each harsh, fruitless, tug, the more annoyed he got. Is he really going to have to rip out even more chunks of his fur? Quite a bit of his quills too it looks like — and just the thought of having to pull those out would have normally set said quills to bristle, if most of them weren’t currently stuck together, preventing much movement. But there was surely something he could do? What helped get rid of sticky things…?

…Well. There was water.

And the thought of needing to submerge himself —— his body becoming heavy, met with resistance against even the tiniest of movement. Incapable of reaching anywhere near his normal speed, no matter how much he pushed himself. And dark. With light refracted and distorted until he can't tell where the surface is — lost. In a way he never was with the ground solid beneath his feet. His chest aching, desperate for air that was not there. And he couldn't break free in time. He couldn’t breathe——

Yeah, no. He would find some other way.

But that really only left one option.

"Well, it’ll just be like ripping off a band-aid, right?" But even he couldn't pretend to believe that lie. After all, usually nothing else comes off once the band-aid is peeled. However, never one to stall for long even in the most unpleasant of situations, Sonic simply braced himself as he gripped at the edge of the paper and yanked —

Ouch. He would be feeling that in the morning. ( And easily beyond even that )

And something in his chest twinged as he looked at just how much of him was still stuck to the paper. Not to mention it was definitely not just his imagination in feeling the wind easier than ever — it brushing against the patches in his fur that was now missing —

But in retrospect it wasn't all that bad, right? After all, he's definitely taken harder hits before, and it's not like the time he broke a bone after a tumble with Egghead. At least now he was still free to move on without limitations. If anything this should have just been another day, hardly something to be concerned over —

But as the wind blew once more, sending a chill up his spine — he just...felt, cold. But that was silly. After all he still had most of his fur, and it wasn't like it was a particularly cold day outside in the first place. He was just exaggerating things as he tends to do —

But still. The longer he stood here, just feeling... unnatural, somehow... Something made him want to curl up within himself in a way he hasn't in a long time. And he was left feeling far more — off. than what the situation called for.

( it took a while for him to realize. self-conscious. he was feeling self-conscious of all things. but to do so just for something like this — )

And he's always been perfectly aware that he is full of pride, coupled with an ego larger than most. But, never did he consider himself to be vain.

And yet. Perhaps he gave himself too much credit, for the thought of having to go around with patches of his fur and quills missing twisted something nasty in his gut. Made him want to run away. Though it's not like even he could run from this.

Not.

That he needs to. After all, this was nothing. Geez, if those dumbbots could see him now he'd never live it down. Being so caught up with such a small inconvenience like this wasn't like him. It wasn't like that much of his fur or quills was gone. And they’d grow back. In just a few months. ( but for someone who comfortably lives in the seconds, months was just — ) 

"But hey, if anyone can pull off this look, it's Sonic the Hedgehog, right? No problem."

I have a lofted bed! I bought a full sized one and put my twin mattress on it. I put a plank of wood in the extra space (that I cut and fit myself, thank you very much.) to act as an end table, buffer so I don't roll off the bed (I didn't attach the railing on the open side, a cat walk for my cats, and a ledge to sit on. I'm in the middle of painting it right now and I'm v excited for how it's going.

I love the smell of honey! I don't eat it much, but it's my all time fav scent. It can be hard to find in candles so when I do find them (at a good price), I buy multiple. (This is true of my other fav candle scent: bread!) I also really like bees and anything in a honeycomb pattern merely due to their relationship with honey.

I always pick up magazines with people I like on the cover. I then flip through them to see the pictures. If the person is allowed to smile, I buy them! This goes triple for if they're silly/candid pics. If there are only stuffy editorial pictures, I say what a shame and put it back.

Pan de Jamón de PanComido

La historia del pan de jamón tiene muchos caminos distintos. Uno de ellos pasa por la capital planteando que el origen de este pan está en Caracas, otro dice que unos portugueses hacían este pan para brindar con sus amigos y otro cuenta que su nacimiento fue fortuito hecho con los retazos de jamón que sobraban en las panaderías. En fin, es un pan que es símbolo de navidad, que aparece en las panaderías a mediados de noviembre y ya es difícil encontrarlo después de la segunda semana de enero.

En mi casa el pan de jamón es algo indispensable en las navidades. Mi mamá por tradición, los primeros días de diciembre, empezaba un peregrinaje buscando ese pan que le gustase para servirlo en la cena de 24 de diciembre. Después de sufrir muchas decepciones con los panes que se compraban porque no lograban satisfacer el gusto de la jefa de la casa, decidí hacer el mío a ver qué tal me iba.

Me leí la receta de Claudio Nazoa y después de reír por lo original del procedimiento hice el pan pero no le gustó. Me fui a la lectura académica y encontré al maestro Miro Popic, una lectura deliciosa para los amantes del pan, hice su receta y tampoco le gustó. Ya con una frustración encima decidí hacer una receta con los escasos conocimientos de panadería que tenía, y después de muchas metidas de pata, y de quemar unos cuantos kilos de pan, logré una masa que finalmente le gustó.

Aunque no es una masa sencilla de manejar, se asemeja bastante a una brioche, logrando así una miga esponjosa y un bonito crecimiento del pan. La receta que les presento está en función de 1kg de harina, en la que saldrían 3 panes de jamón y uno extra más pequeñito. Para la masa:

1,000g Harina de fuerza o todo uso.

240g Huevos.

240g Mantequilla

260g Leche fresca

20g Sal

40g Azúcar

1,2g Levadura viva o 0,4g de levadura instantánea.

Para el relleno se recomienda:

400g de jamón de espalda ahumado con un buen porcentaje de grasa

50g de unas pasas hidratadas

50g de aceitunas sin hueso

15 a 20g de papelón rayado

Procedimiento

Ya teniendo todos los ingredientes medidos y preparados, lo primero a mezclar es la harina, el azúcar, la leche y la levadura, es decir, todos los ingredientes menos la mantequilla y la sal. Usar un bowl para evitar desastres. Apliquen la técnica de amasado que se les ocurra, bien sea dobleces, agarrones o darle hasta con los codos, lo que importa es lograr una mezcla homogénea. Dejen reposar unos 30 a 40 minutos la masa. Como la están amasando a mano, este tiempo ayuda para que el segundo amasado sea más fácil.

Pasado el tiempo de reposo hay que sacar del bowl la masa y ponerla sobre una superficie fija y amplia para incorporar la mantequilla y la sal. Es acá donde empieza la hora fatless de la panadería pues hay que amasar con fuerza y vehemencia. La masa se volverá pegostosa, muy pegajosa pero hay que insistir en el amasado. No caigan en la frustración. ¡Por amor a la herencia científica de Nicola Tesla, no agreguen más harina a la masa! Si hacen esto, están modificando la receta y el resultado será distinto. Es solo cuestión de paciencia y tener una buena técnica, como el amasado francés, que es una buena opción.

Se puede aplicar una técnica de reposos para que la masa logre desarrollar el gluten sola. Esta técnica consiste en amasar unos pocos minutos y dejar reposar el pastón aproximadamente 30 minutos. Se debe repetir este proceso 3 o 4 veces.

Bien sea que se amase con vehemencia o con reposos, la malla de gluten se debe haber desarrollado correctamente. Para verificarlo hay que cortar un trozo de masa para estirarla con delicadeza hasta que sea translúcida, y que al romperse deje los bordes lisos generando un circulo casi perfecto, contrario al efecto de rasgado. Esta es la prueba de la ventana que indica que la masa ya está lista.

La clase de breadfit ya pasó, la masa debe estar tan agotada como tú. Por ello es necesario dejar reposar unos 20 o 30 minutos para que sea más manejable al formarla. Divídala en bollos de 500g, extienda la masa (30 x 40cm), reparta la panela por la superficie y deje un sector de la masa libre. Extienda el jamón y mantenga ese espacio libre a lo largo de uno de los bordes. Agregue las aceitunas y las pasas (como prefiera). En esta ocasión yo corté las aceitunas en rodajas. Enrollé. Al llegar al sector libre de la masa, presioné con los dedos en el orillo buscando que se adhiera a la superficie de trabajo. Terminé de enrollar. Dejé leudar por 5h a 6h a temperatura ambiente. Horneé por 1h a 180°C chequeando constantemente . El bollo restante lo puede hacer como un minipan de jamón o un gran cachito de jamón.

Variaciones.

Existen muchas, una que me gustó mucho fue sustituir la leche líquida por cerveza artesanal viva y eliminar la levadura de la receta. Este pan tardará más tiempo en fermentar pero el resultado es un pan muy rico con un sabor muy particular.

La variación que recomiendo es haciendo uso de masa madre, restando 200 gramos de harina y 200 gramos de leche para lograr hacer esta masa. Este pan no será tan dulce como el presentado en la receta pero le dará un sabor agrio que muchos papás recordarán del pan de pueblo.

Otra variación es con el relleno. Soy de los que le gusta el jamón dulce. Sí, lo sé, suena raro. Lo que hago es hacer un melado de papelón en el que dejo marinando el jamón toda la noche para así tener ese sabor que a mí me gusta en el pan. Los invito a probar este giro en la receta.

Otra variación que me gusta es eliminar el jamón en el relleno y usar un puré de tomates secos, aceitunas negras y queso crema… ¡Ufff! Brutal.
