I'm over here trying to get some smut writing done and in the middle of a very steamy sentence, my mom called.
She was calling to tell me that my dad fractured four ribs because he fell off his motorcycle.
And like, yeah, I do want to know about that, but the timing could've been better.

MASTERPOST for summary/info/chapter list
a/n: Protective Barb is my favorite thing. I couldn't let Arrie and Sol have all the fun lol. Should you feel that this chapter ends abruptly, just remember that there are four more chapters to this story. This is not the end!

GN!MC x Barbatos | word count 1,775
Warnings: magical violence, MC is in pain, demon OC, sorcerer OC
Tumblr media
A few days later, you were at RAD with Barbatos when Arsenios and Solomon came over to where the two of you were sitting.
"You owe me more tea, at the very least," Arsenios said, arms folded as Solomon placed a folded piece of paper on the table.
Solomon laughed lightly. "It wasn't that bad, was it? In fact, I would say it turned out to be much easier than either of us expected."
Barbatos picked up the paper, unfolding it. You looked over his shoulder and saw that it was a detailed description of a counter curse. It was handwritten, clearly something that had been created by Tobias himself.
Barbatos smiled. "I cannot express how grateful I am to both of you. I hope it was not too difficult for you to obtain this."
"It was no problem," Solomon said.
At the same time, Arsenios said, "It was mostly annoying."
They looked at each other, Solomon smiling while Arsenios gave him a flat look.
Arsenios turned back to Barbatos. "All I had to do was sing to him."
You cocked your head to the side. "Sing to him?"
"Arsenios can put humans into a trance merely by singing or playing an instrument," Barbatos explained.
"It was fascinating to watch," Solomon said. "His expression went dull and he simply brought the paper with the counter curse over and handed it to us. I was able to verify right away that it was the right one."
Arsenios glanced between the two of you. "I can also use my song to influence people's future actions. I don't think he'll be bothering you again."
There was something ominous about this statement, but you noticed how Arsenios met your eyes when he said it, instead of looking at Barbatos.
"I tried to convince Arsenios that he probably didn't need to do that," Solomon said, smile still in place. "But really I don't think it's going to cause any harm. I made sure to let Tobias know that we will not go easy on him should he return to the Devildom without permission again."
"You should still be careful, though," Arsenios said, his eyes back on Barbatos. "Don't go getting cursed again, okay?"
Barbatos nodded. "I understand. You have my word. Thank you both."
Arsenios turned to Solomon. "I admit that I wouldn't have known if that counter curse was the right one or not, so I guess it was a good thing you were with me."
Solomon laughed. "What a compliment! Don't strain yourself on my account, Arsenios. I know you find me annoying at best."
Arsenios stared at him for a moment, then he actually laughed. "Man, you are something else. Anyway, good luck with the counter curse, Barb."
Arsenios moved away to his own seat across the classroom while Solomon sat down nearby to get ready for class to start.
After RAD, Barbatos brought you back to the castle, ready to use the counter curse to break the threads. Solomon had offered to help with it, but Barbatos seemed content to take care of things himself. Solomon told you that should the counter curse prove ineffective for some reason, he still had the Night Dagger as an alternative option. All of you hoped it wouldn't come to that.
You were feeling apprehensive. It wasn't that you didn't believe the counter curse would work. It was more like you weren't sure how to deal with how it would feel when your connection to Barbatos was severed.
During the time you had been bound to him, you had observed Barbatos in a way you never had the chance to do before. Every day, you had been by his side as he worked, as you studied, and as both of you began to do things together, moving in sync in a way that you had never done with anyone else. And every night, you had walked in his memories or he had come to pull you out of them so you could sleep peacefully.
And now suddenly he wouldn't be by your side anymore. Or at least, you would be able to move away from him without it causing you pain. You would likely return to the House of Lamentation, which you admit you missed. But that would also mean you would have to readjust to your life the way it had been before all of this.
You stood across from Barbatos in one of the castle's many living rooms. He was frowning, reading the paper with the counter curse on it. Then he looked up at you. Barbatos extended a hand toward you, reciting the spell from the paper.
You saw the threads suddenly, bursting out from your chest still. You saw them rise where they coalesced into the single thread that ran through Barbatos. It rose and rose until -
Snap!
It broke.
And the threads that had been bursting from you, that had been a knot inside your chest, began to unravel. They fell around you, little strands of teal littering your arms, legs, the floor beneath you.
And it hurt.
You gasped and clutched at your chest, which felt like that empty yawning hollow that would form whenever you got too far away from Barbatos.
Barbatos was at your side, his arms on your shoulders.
You watched in horror as the threads turned black. They began to ooze, just like in your dream. You cried out and shoved at Barbatos.
"Get away!" you yelled, pushing on his chest. "Get away before it swallows you!"
Barbatos caught your hands. "MC, there's nothing there."
You looked at him with wild eyes, your chest throbbing, the black seeping toward him bit by bit. "You can't see it? It's going to consume you!"
The pain was dizzying and made it difficult to focus, causing you to simply react with desperation.
The black ooze seemed to freeze in a white light and there was an odd sharp note that rang through the air.
Although the pain was lessened, it still lingered. You managed to look up and a man you could only assume was Tobias stood behind Barbatos, hand extended, glowing with white light. His head was cocked slightly, as though he couldn't help listening to something.
Barbatos was instantly in demon form, his tail wrapping around you protectively as he turned to face Tobias.
"I do believe you were warned not to return to the Devildom," Barbatos said, his voice calm despite the tension in his body. Through the fog of your fear, you could feel the tail around you trembling with anger.
Tobias frowned. "If you think I'm afraid of Solomon and some singing demon, you miscalculated. The counter curse alerts me when it's used and there was always this little unpleasantness built into it. Your sweet MC will fall completely to the hallucinations, believing everything they ever loved to be fully consumed by darkness. I can release them from that torment… for a price."
Barbatos shook his head as though he felt sorry for the sorcerer. "You have been troublesome for quite some time now," he said. "Today you have finally gone too far."
The room was plunged into darkness and you would have fallen if Barbatos's tail hadn't been holding you up.
You looked around and found yourself in the same constellation filled sky of your dreams - the teal streams moving through it as always.
Barbatos was practically glowing with teal light. Tobias instantly dropped his own spell, which brought your pain back full force. Through it you could see Tobias gripping his head with both hands, as though he was experiencing some horrific torment.
"As there was a secret in your counter curse, so there was a secret in Arsenios's song," Barbatos said. "The notes you're hearing now are tied to my power. You must choose to find a way to deal with the loss of your loved one without time travel. Make that choice, release MC, and I will return you to the human world where you belong, unharmed."
"And if I refuse?" Tobias demanded through gritted teeth.
Barbatos shook his head. "It is best if you do not even contemplate that option."
Tobias fell to his knees. You couldn't hear the song that was apparently playing in his head, but it seemed he was suffering even more than you were.
He cast a spell and the pain inside you lifted, though you noticed there was still a single thread running through you. And although the pain was gone, the empty feeling wasn't.
Barbatos opened a portal there and Tobias stumbled through it, clearly desperate to end the sounds that were playing in his mind.
Everything around you felt off, your heart still ached in a way that was worse than what your body had endured.
"Barbatos," you cried out, reaching toward him.
Barbatos turned to you, pulling you into his arms and pressing you against his chest, his tail still wrapped around you.
And suddenly, you were at peace. That last lost thread had simply gone back inside your chest. It filled the empty yawning hole, making you complete again.
You were breathing hard as you slowly calmed down, tears of pain and fear streaking your face. Your arms were clasped around Barbatos tightly and you were afraid to let go.
After a few moments, you leaned your forehead on Barbatos's shoulder. "I'm okay," you whispered.
Gently, you felt yourself being moved through space and once again you were in the Demon Lord's Castle.
"Even after Tobias released you, there was still a single thread trapped in me," Barbatos said softly. "But that magic belonged to you. It was fighting to return to you. Forgive me, MC. It was difficult for your magic to move through my timescape."
"You knew that the sorcerer would show up," you said.
Barbatos smiled. "Solomon suggested that there might be such an issue with a counter curse written by the sorcerer himself. So Arsenios added an extra layer to his song that allowed me to force Tobias to set you free. It was a precaution."
You sighed, feeling heavy. "I hope that he leaves you alone now. This has been tiring."
Barbatos didn't move away, only waited for you to gather yourself, waited for you to pull away first. When you finally did, he shifted out of demon form. You could see that this situation had taken a toll on him, though he hid it well.
Barbatos smiled at you again. You could see the small hint of weariness in it. "That was quite the ordeal, I'm afraid. Shall we have some tea to calm ourselves?"
You agreed immediately.

THE THREADS THAT BIND
CHAPTER EIGHT
MASTERPOST for summary/info/chapter list
a/n: This is by far the most OC heavy chapter. I feel the need to mention here that Arsenios has a very casual way of speaking, which is why he sometimes calls Barbatos "Barb." They've been friends for a long time so that's why Barbatos allows it lol. Anyway, I actually have a bonus chapter that I'll be posting tomorrow, then it's back to the regular schedule on Wednesday. (Also this is the chapter I've been most nervous to post because of the whole OC thing lol. I almost didn't put him in this story at all.)
Tumblr media
GN!MC x Barbatos | word count 1,407
Warnings: demon OC but otherwise nothing
Tumblr media
You sat at a table on a balcony overlooking the gardens at the castle. There was a lovely spread of tea and pastries before you. On one side of you sat Barbatos, calm as ever. On your other side, sat Arsenios.
He was not in his RAD uniform, instead wearing black slacks and a grey button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up. This had caused you to notice the two black tattoos on the back of both of his hands. They looked like pact marks, circular in shape and filled with cryptic looking writing. His hair was in a thick braid that hung over his shoulder, revealing the silver piercings in his ears.
Barbatos had invited Arsenios over for tea on purpose. You weren't sure why because Barbatos wouldn't exactly tell you, but you highly suspected it had something to do with finding the sorcerer.
Arsenios had turned out to be extremely friendly so far. You had talked to him in class a few times before, but you hadn't really gotten to know him at all. He had always been polite to you, but he seemed to be friends with Barbatos. He was more relaxed and a little more open. You were surprised when he started discussing the tea blend with Barbatos. It was clearly something he knew about and you wondered if this was how they became friends.
Eventually, Arsenios set down his teacup and folded his arms. He looked across the table at Barbatos. "All right," he said. "This has been really nice. It's been a while since I've been here to have tea with you. But I know that's not what this is about. So what do you want, Barb?"
Barbatos chuckled. "You must forgive me, Arsenios, but I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what I've invited you here to ask about."
"You wanna know more about Tobias," Arsenios said. "But I don't know anything about him beyond what I already told you."
"The current predicament we face is that the spell was partly written by the sorcerer himself," Barbatos said. "And therefore the counter curse is also unique to him. However, we have not been able to locate him. Solomon has stated that he has a spell hiding his location from any magic that would trace him."
Arsenios leaned forward and put his arms on the table. "So you think I know where he is because he summoned me."
"I realize he may not have summoned you to his current location," Barbatos said. "But perhaps, if it is close enough, we can find him from there."
"Yeah, about that," Arsenios said, rubbing the back of his head in a sheepish gesture. "I may have followed him after I refused to make a pact with him."
"Hmm," Barbatos said. "Now why would you do that?"
Arsenios folded his arms and huffed. "It was suspicious, okay? I didn't like that this guy was trying to use me. I wanted to know who he really was. He's powerful, but he's still new to this sorcerer stuff. He didn't even suspect that I was following him. He led me right to his house."
Barbatos watched Arsenios carefully. "Then it would be a small matter for you to return to his home, would it not?"
Arsenios frowned. "You want me to go?"
"I would take care of it myself, but I cannot risk endangering MC and they would need to come with me due to this curse," Barbatos said.
"I can't exactly travel to the human world any time I want," Arsenios said.
Barbatos nodded. "I could send you, of course, but I do think it would be beneficial for you and Solomon to work together on this."
Arsenios stared at Barbatos for a moment. "You want me to go with Solomon?"
Barbatos smiled. "Solomon can transport you there. You will be able to use your song should Tobias be at home. And either way, Solomon will know if the counter curse you locate is the correct one. Would you know it if you found it?"
Arsenios looked at Barbatos carefully for a long moment. Then he sat back in his chair and looked over at you. You held his gaze easily, waiting as his purple and grey eyes seemed to be assessing you. You wondered whether or not he was trying to determine if you were worth the effort.
"Give me a minute to think about it," Arsenios said at last.
Barbatos seemed to be satisfied with that answer. He stood up. "Let me refill this pot," he said, picking up the teapot.
He went just inside, where he had already set up a tea making station. This was so that he wouldn't have to go all the way back to the kitchen, which would certainly have made you sick. But he was far enough away now that you were sure he wouldn't hear anything you said.
"Are those pact marks?" you asked, gesturing to Arsenios's hands.
He spread his hands and looked down at the tops of them. You noticed then that his nails were painted dark grey. "Nah. They're magic circles. They're there for protection."
"Protection against what?" you asked.
Arsenios folded his arms again and looked at you. "Anything. Everything. I'm a music demon. I'm useless without my hands."
"Music demon?" you asked.
"Sure, music's my whole thing," Arsenios said. "I mean, I guess I could get by on my voice alone, but I'd really rather not. It's so much better if I can play instruments, too."
"How do you know Barbatos?" you asked.
Arsenios laughed. "What is this, an interrogation? You're pretty bold for a human. Guess that's what happens when you've lived here for a while. You forget we're all demons, huh?"
You flushed. You realized you were indeed asking questions rapidly, but you weren't being rude about it or anything. "So what? Are you going to eat me?"
Arsenios leaned forward. "What, and face the wrath of Barbatos? Never. Anyway, I don't actually mind answering your questions. It's just funny because most humans hate us, are afraid of us, or want to use us. You're just over here acting like you wanna be friends with everybody."
You folded your arms and frowned. "So what if I do?"
Arsenios put up his hands. "Hey, I'm not trying to be mean. It's cute, that's all."
You blinked at being called cute, but didn't say anything about it.
"Anyway, I met Barbatos a long time ago," Arsenios said. "Back before Lucifer and his brothers showed up. I used to play the piano at a little cafe near the castle. Barbatos was a regular. He would stop in for tea a lot and he always seemed to come at the weirdest times. Things would be quiet, so I would just chat with him. Turns out we both had a lot of opinions about tea."
Barbatos returned to the table partway through Arsenios's reminiscence and put the once again full teapot down on it.
"I began to invite Arrie over to the castle for tea, especially after the cafe closed," Barbatos said. "We have been discussing tea blends regularly ever since."
Arsenios shook his head and laughed softly. "You haven't called me Arrie in years. You're really trying to butter me up today, aren't you?"
Barbatos smiled, sitting back down beside you. "At the moment, you are the only one we can rely on for this. However, I will respect whatever choice you make."
Arsenios looked between Barbatos and you multiple times. "You're really pushing it, you know? First you talk me into attending RAD, now you want me to go deal with some pipsqueak sorcerer with Solomon of all people. If I was anybody else, you would owe me big time."
"I am more than happy to compensa-" Barbatos started to say, but Arsenios cut him off.
"It's fine," Arsenios said. He looked at you again. "I can see what this means to you. I'll do what I can."
Barbatos seemed to relax and you hadn't even realized how tense he had been. "Thank you, Arsenios."
Arsenios poured himself some more tea. You were pleased when the conversation went back to the days before the fall. You liked to hear about what Barbatos was like back then and Arsenios seemed more than happy to tell you all about it. He answered all of your questions, even when Barbatos blushed and protested.

THE THREADS THAT BIND
CHAPTER TEN
MASTERPOST for summary/info/chapter list
a/n: This is the last chapter in which Arsenios makes a significant appearance. I truly enjoyed writing about him. In the meantime, MC is dealing with some heavy feels. Things get angsty for a bit, so just a heads up.
Tumblr media
GN!MC x Barbatos | word count 1,159
Warnings: demon OC
Tumblr media
Weeks went by. You were free of the curse and there was no reason for you to stay at the castle any longer. You had packed all your things and lugged them back to the House of Lamentation with help from Barbatos. He had smiled at you as he always did before he left.
You continued to see about as much of Barbatos as you used to. Often it was at RAD, though there were various group activities where he was present and the more rare tea party that you would go to the castle for. But usually you were with other people. It wasn't the same as when you had been tethered together.
At first, you felt kind of numb. It was just a matter of readjusting to the way things used to be, how they were supposed to be.
So you went through your days as you had always done before. But as time passed, you began to find yourself thinking often about the moments you had seen in Barbatos's mind. Even more than the feeling you'd had when he left your side - that was only a product of the curse, not a reflection of anything real. But his memories had been real.
It seems my love has found us.
For some reason, that particular moment continually replayed itself in your mind. Barbatos himself had said that this was a moment from the future, that you had seen the memory he had of seeing it himself.
Will I know that person when I meet them in the present? I don't know. I can't know.
This, too, echoed in your mind. What he had said when you asked. Of course he couldn't know for certain. Not when he hadn't been able to make out what that person even looked like. They had been much too far away. If Barbatos had any deeper insight into their identity, he hadn't shared it with you.
The more time passed, the more you thought of these things, caught up in the meaning of it all. It was diverting. Because if you thought about your own feelings for too long, you started to see that emptiness returning. A hole in your chest where something had been removed.
You wanted to believe that it was only your imagination. That you were only experiencing flashbacks of the curse itself.
But sometimes, when you were alone at night, staring at the ceiling of your room in the House of Lamentation, you were honest with yourself about it. The truth was that you missed Barbatos.
You would always turn your mind back to that vision of his future to remind yourself that it didn't matter. Maybe he couldn't know when he encountered that person that he would love, but you would have known if you had been seeing yourself. You would have known if it was you calling out to him across that field of flowers. Wouldn't you?
These were the thoughts that plagued you as the weeks passed. You often liked to find a spot at RAD to be by yourself, so you could wallow in these feelings while also rejecting them.
You had gone off alone again, sitting on a bench out on the grounds, your eyes on the dark sky and your mind stewing.
You had to pull yourself out of the depths of your thoughts when someone sat beside you. You blinked and were surprised to find Arsenios on the bench with you.
"You're looking pretty down," he said without so much as a hello. "Everything all right? I heard the counter curse worked."
You gathered yourself for a moment before smiling weakly. "Yeah, thanks for your help."
Arsenios leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees. His RAD jacket was nowhere to be seen, his green shirt partly unbuttoned. "So what's with the sad face?"
You frowned. "I'm not sad."
"Uh huh," Arsenios said. "It's easy to tell yourself lies, but it's hard to tell yourself the truth. Sometimes it's easier to tell someone else."
You squinted at him. He wasn't looking at you, his eyes elsewhere across campus. "Are you trying to make me feel better?"
Arsenios shook his head and leaned back to look at you. "I'm giving you a chance to talk about whatever's bothering you. Get it off your chest."
You studied his face for a moment, trying to decide if he was making fun of you. But you saw no malice in his eyes. He seemed to be genuinely trying to help.
You sighed and leaned your head back on the bench. "It's complicated. I don't even know where to start."
Arsenios ran a hand through his hair. "I mean, it's about Barb, right? It has to be after what you went through."
"I know that curse was bad," you said, your eyes on the sky above you. "But now that it's gone, I feel… like I'm missing something. I'm missing him."
"So why not tell him how you feel?" Arsenios asked.
You snorted and rolled your head to look at him. "Why? So I can get rejected and feel even worse?"
"Nah," Arsenios said. "Is that what you really think will happen?"
You didn't really want to tell him all about the future you had seen in Barbatos's mind. You didn't respond.
"Listen, MC," Arsenios said. "I've known Barbatos for a long time. I maybe don't know him as well as some others can claim, but I think I know enough to know how he feels about you. In all these years, I have never seen him look at anyone the way he looks at you."
Something about this statement hit you hard. You sat up, fighting the tears that suddenly stung at your eyes. "But-"
Arsenios raised a hand to stop you. "I mean it. You don't believe me? Ask Solomon. Ask Lucifer. Ask Diavolo. I bet any one of them would say the same. But even if that wasn't the case, don't you think he deserves to make the choice himself?"
You let out a heavy sigh. The truth of that question was almost too painful to think about. But this music demon was right. And you knew it.
Arsenios stood up from the bench, his hands in his pockets. "Something to consider. And I gotta say… Listen, Barbatos is my friend. But if he passes up on being with someone like you, then he doesn't deserve you to begin with."
You met his eyes in surprise, but you couldn't read what you saw there.
Arsenios waved nonchalantly at you as he walked away, leaving you sitting stunned on the bench.
The worst part of that conversation was realizing that you would have to say something to Barbatos. That you couldn't keep the truth inside you forever. Partly because it would eat away at you if you did, but also because Arsenios was right. Barbatos deserved to make the choice himself.

THE THREADS THAT BIND
CHAPTER EIGHT AND A HALF
MASTERPOST for summary/info/chapter list
a/n: Okay time for a lengthy author's note about this bonus chapter. This is a bonus chapter because I wasn't originally going to write this part at all. This is what happens when Arsenios and Solomon go looking for the counter curse. (If I was naming chapters, this one would be called "The Misadventures of Arrie & Sol.")
This is essentially an MC and Barbatos love story, so I didn't think I really needed to write this part since neither MC nor Barbatos are in it. Then I thought people might want to see what happened, so I decided to write it and post it as a bonus. This means that you do not need to read this chapter at all if you don't want to. You can skip it all together and the rest of the story will still make sense.
That being said, this scene is written from Arsenios's point of view. So I feel the need to clarify a couple things about him. First, know that he is all bark and no bite. He will threaten people all day and then never actually follow through. Second, there is a reason why he doesn't like Solomon, but it has nothing to do with Solomon and everything to do with Arsenios and his past. Arsenios is aware of this, but he's still struggling with it lol.
Okay, that's it, sorry for the rambling. If you do decide to read this, I hope you enjoy it! Back to MC and Barbatos in the next chapter!
Tumblr media
GN!MC x Barbatos still, but neither make an appearance in this chapter and you can skip it if you so desire | word count 1,377
Warnings: demon OC, sorcerer OC, minor violence (no blood), a lot of empty threats, manipulative magic, I think that's it...?
Tumblr media
Arsenios folded his arms, frowning at Solomon, who had the same usual annoying smile on his face. Arsenios had come to Purgatory Hall to find Solomon so they could go to the human world and find the counter curse for Barbatos.
Now he was standing inside the living room, trying to explain where Tobias's house was located.
"So you're saying it's in a forest?" Solomon asked.
"It's more like on the outskirts of a city," Arsenios said. "But there are just a lot of trees there. Man, don't you have a map or something?"
Solomon laughed lightly. "Would you know how to find the house on a map?"
Arsenios frowned even harder, unhappy about the fact that Solomon had a point.
Solomon patted Arsenios's shoulder. "Don't worry about it. I think I know the location you're talking about. Why don't I take us there and you can tell me if I'm wrong?"
Arsenios glared at Solomon. "I guess."
Solomon kept his hand on Arsenios's shoulder and recited the teleportation spell.
Arsenios felt himself get a little dizzy before he was suddenly in a new place. The light from the human world sun nearly blinded him. He tried not to hiss at it as he raised an arm to shield his eyes.
"Sorry about that," Solomon said. "I forget demons can be sensitive to sunlight if they rarely leave the Devildom."
"I spent plenty of time in the human world," Arsenios said. "Tried to come at night when I could, though."
"Sure," Solomon said. "But that was a long time ago, wasn't it?"
Arsenios huffed. He looked around at where they were. They were standing on a small street with a dead end. There were indeed trees everywhere and a rickety old house at the end of the street. The nearest neighbor was far enough away that they couldn't even see their house.
"Hey," Arsenios said. "This is exactly the right spot. How did you know it?"
Solomon shrugged. "The Sorcerer's Society isn't far from here. A lot of sorcerers live in this general area. I recognized the way you described the trees here, so I figured it must be this spot."
Arsenios didn't want to be impressed, but he was. "All right, now what?"
"Now, we go ask him politely to give us the counter curse," Solomon said.
Arsenios was ready to argue with this idea, but Solomon was already walking down the street to the front door of the house.
When they reached it, Solomon knocked loudly.
Only seconds passed before the door opened.
The sorcerer standing in the doorway was short, wearing a rather dramatic black cloak, and glaring at them. The minute he saw Solomon, his scowl deepened. Although Solomon had never actually met Tobias before, there was no doubt that his reputation had preceded him. Tobias started to close the door.
Solomon seemed to anticipate this, though. He grabbed the door and held it open.
"Hello, Tobias," he said, his voice just as cheerful as it always was.
Tobias looked at him, then at Arsenios, then back at Solomon. "What do you want, Solomon?"
"I heard you've been teleporting into the Devildom without permission," Solomon said.
"Have you become a guard dog for demons now?" Tobias asked. He sneered. "What am I saying. You've always been the demons' bitch."
"Wow," Arsenios said. "Listen, I'm not Solomon's biggest fan, either, but you're talking about an immortal man who has seventy two pacts. You know how pacts work, don't you?"
Tobias looked at Arsenios a little more carefully. "And who exactly are you?"
"None of your business," Arsenios said. "We're here for the counter curse. Hand it over."
Tobias blinked. "Counter curse?"
"Don't play dumb," Arsenios snarled. "You tried to curse Barbatos, but it hit MC instead. Give us the counter curse."
"The binding threads curse," Solomon said. "You have written a counter curse for it, haven't you?"
Tobias tugged on the door, but Solomon kept hold of it. "Of course I have, but I don't see why I should give it to you."
Solomon sighed and looked at Arsenios with raised eyebrows.
"I know what you want me to do," Arsenios said. "But do I really have to bother using my power on this idiot? I think I could beat the location out of him just fine."
Tobias paled as Arsenios began to roll up his sleeves. He pulled harder on the door, but it still wouldn't budge.
"I think Barbatos would prefer it if we didn't resort to violence," Solomon said. "Anyway, do you really want to get all bloody? I would think it'd be easier to just use your power."
Tobias gave up on the door and ran into the house.
"Oh, now, you wasted too much time talking," Solomon said.
"Me?" Arsenios demanded. He poked Solomon in the chest. "You're the one who won't shut up."
Arsenios didn't wait to hear Solomon's response to this, which was likely some witty quip he didn't want to hear anyway.
Instead he went inside the house.
The main room was a sort of foyer, an empty space with a staircase and a few open doorways leading to other rooms.
Arsenios didn't need to go in any farther. He felt Solomon enter the room and close the door behind them, cutting off the sunlight and plunging the house into a sort of grey dimness.
Arsenios took a deep breath and then he began to sing. As he did, his eyes glowed purple.
The song was not complex. For persuasion, a simple song was best. He sang in the ancient language of demons, his mother tongue, as it was easiest for him to infuse with intention.
It was a quiet and eerie song, one to match the strange place they were standing in.
There was a clatter from deep inside the house. And then Tobias came down the stairs, a folded piece of paper in his hands. His eyes were dull, his expression listless. He looked like he was sleepwalking.
Tobias walked straight to Solomon and held out the paper to him.
Solomon took it, looked it over, and nodded. "This is the right one, Arsenios."
Arsenios stopped singing.
Tobias blinked. Then he made as if he was going to snatch the paper out of Solomon's hand.
Arsenios grabbed the back of his cloak before he could and lifted him entirely off the ground. Tobias squeaked, kicking his feet.
Solomon walked over to Tobias and tapped his chest with the paper. "Thanks for this. I hope I don't have to tell you that you shouldn't come back to the Devildom for a while. Barbatos isn't pleased about all of this. And I have to admit, neither am I."
"You can’t just come to my home and bully me like this!" Tobias said, still struggling.
Solomon laughed. “You didn’t honestly think you could mess with a demon like Barbatos without repercussions, did you? You should be grateful he can’t come deal with you himself. It would’ve been a lot worse for you.”
“Put me down! I’m not interested in your posturing!” Tobias said.
"I think I’ll share one more song with you,” Arsenios said. “Just to make sure you don’t think about coming back to the Devildom.”
"I don't know if that's really necessary," Solomon said. "I think he's learned his lesson."
Arsenios didn't respond, only began to sing again, eyes glowing briefly. It was a short, sharp song, something that would simply remind Tobias not to return to the Devildom. A slight influence that would play in his mind whenever he considered it.
Arsenios dropped him. Tobias landed with a little thud, still on his feet. He looked surprised that he wasn’t hurt, but he scrambled away in fear all the same.
"Let's go," Arsenios said, turning to Solomon.
Solomon laughed. "You're so scary, Arsenios!"
Arsenios rolled his eyes because he knew he was being made fun of. "Whatever, can we just go back now? I don't like being here."
"Of course, of course," Solomon said.
Solomon put his hand on Arsenios's shoulder and brought them back to the Devildom, landing them directly in Purgatory Hall's living room.
"Thanks for your help," Solomon said.
Arsenios shrugged. "I only did it because of Barbatos. You've seen him with MC."
"Yes, I have," Solomon said.
They exchanged a knowing look.
"Anyway, we can give this to Barbatos at RAD tomorrow," Solomon said.
"Great," Arsenios said, turning to leave.
"By the way, Arsenios," Solomon said.
Arsenios looked over his shoulder.
"Are you sure you wouldn't be interested in making a pact-"
Arsenios didn't even wait to hear the rest, only turning away again and walking out the door. He rolled his eyes as he heard Solomon chuckling behind him.

9 Days of Solomon: Day 6 - Snow
Okay this one's a little different, so here's a bit of an explanation.
I just really wanted to write a scene with my OC Arsenios and Solomon because their relationship is so funny to me. So this is a short scene from when they first met. It takes place before the brothers fell, but after Solomon has made his pact with Barbatos. It's written from Solomon's perspective and happens in the human world. I think you can read it without any prior knowledge of Arsenios, but if you want to know more about him, his post is here.
(Also I was struggling with the snow prompt until I got this idea and then there was no turning back lol.)
Tumblr media
Solomon had been hearing the rumors for years. Whispers here and there about humans selling their souls in exchange for musical talent. He hadn't really thought much about it, but he did file away the information whenever he came across it. He was surprised how frequently it seemed to come up in his travels. So when he finally learned a name, he decided to find out more for himself.
Winter had just begun, but the air was already frigid. Everyone knew the best time to summon a demon was at night, so Solomon was outside in the bitter cold darkness. Fortunately, there was only a light sprinkling of snow on the ground, but it still crunched underfoot.
People had talked about this demon being easy to find at a crossroads, so Solomon had gone out to a spot where two dirt roads crossed each other. Carefully, he traced the summoning circle on the ground, drawing the symbols in the dirt and snow.
When he was done, Solomon recited the summoning spell, finishing with, "I summon the music demon, Arsenios!"
Magic crackled through the circle, converging upon the center. There was a brief flash and a demon materialized out of thin air.
He was tall and thick with light brown skin and long dark brown hair with bright red highlights. His eyes were purple, his outfit all black, but he wasn't in demon form. His stance was casual, his hands in his pockets. He seemed almost bored, like he was used to being summoned out of the blue.
Arsenios squinted. "Solomon?"
Solomon smiled. "Have we met?"
"Nah," Arsenios said. "But I'd have to be living under a rock not to recognize you. What do you want?"
"A pact," Solomon said.
Arsenios tsked. "Sure. You want a pact. For what? Not musical talent."
"No," Solomon agreed.
"If you think you're gonna add me to your collection, you've got another thing coming," Arsenios said.
Solomon laughed. "Is there really no reason you can think of to make a pact with me? You would be joining some important names."
Arsenios actually looked contemplative at this for a moment, but then he shook his head. "I don't know what happened with you and Barbatos, but just because I respect him doesn't mean I have to respect you. I don't know what you want with all those pacts, but I have more than enough to deal with in that area, thanks."
"All right," Solomon said. He wasn't worried. He hadn't really been expecting to make a pact with this demon. "But if I may ask, what exactly are you doing in that area? Giving humans musical talent?"
Arsenios folded his arms. "It's none of your business," he said.
Solomon sighed. "It's my business if you're making pacts with humans only to kill them over it later."
"Who said anything about killing?" Arsenios asked.
Solomon frowned. "I've been hearing about it for quite some time. A demon who grants musical talent to humans who then die tragically young."
"That has nothing to do with me," Arsenios said. "And I don't answer to you either way. Don't summon me again."
Solomon was about to say something else, but Arsenios was gone.
Solomon looked up at the night sky and shivered as it began to snow. He would continue to listen for rumors about this situation. It was his job to keep humanity safe. If he had to summon this demon again, he would. But for now, he smudged out the summoning circle, glad that this area would soon be covered in a layer of white.

THE THREADS THAT BIND
CHAPTER SEVEN
MASTERPOST for summary/info/chapter list
a/n: My demon OC makes an appearance. What can I say, I saw the opportunity to use him so I did. I hope you can tolerate his presence for a couple chapters lol. This chapter only has him in it briefly, but the next chapter involves him more.
Tumblr media
GN!MC x Barbatos | word count 1,024
Warnings: Spoilers for OG OM Season 2, demon OC
Tumblr media
You were sitting in class at RAD, Barbatos beside you, when Solomon walked over to you both, sitting across from you at the table.
"We need to cut the threads," he said without preamble.
You frowned. "How are you supposed to cut magic threads?"
Solomon took something out of his uniform and placed it carefully on the table before you.
You couldn't help but gasp. You felt Barbatos reach out to grab your hand, holding on tight. You weren't sure if it was because he was afraid you would pick it up or because he was trying to reassure you.
"The Night Dagger," you said as memories of the time you nearly killed yourself for Lucifer's sake flooded your mind. The Ring of Light on your finger seemed to burn slightly, as though aware of the way it had saved you from taking your life with the dagger that sat on the table now.
"I'm sorry, MC," Solomon said, frowning. "I know this dagger doesn't bring you any good memories. But it's the only thing that's strong enough to break those threads, even though it still isn't at full power. I don't think anything else can do it."
"Are you certain about this, Solomon?" Barbatos asked. "That sorcerer…"
"I don't know Tobias personally and he's impossible to find," Solomon said. "He's shielding himself from being found with magic. But there are a few people in the Society who will still talk to me. Apparently, he's known for adding his own twists to spells. I have reason to believe that there's a counter curse he's created for this particular one. This is the only way I can find that will allow us to break the curse without it."
You were about to respond to this when a fellow student sat down at the table next to Solomon.
You recognized him as a demon that was in a few of your classes and you knew his name was Arsenios. He was tall, thick, had light brown skin, and wore his RAD uniform neat, but with the jacket open, revealing a pair of black suspenders. He had long hair that reached almost to the middle of his back with shorter strands framing his face. It was mostly dark brown, almost black, but streaked through with a vibrant dark red. His eyes were dark purple with a circle of dark grey.
You didn't know Arsenios very well. In fact, you didn't think you had ever really spoken to him before. He wasn't in many of your classes and he didn't show up to them regularly. When he did, he was mostly quiet, his mind seemingly somewhere else.
"Hey, guys," he said. "Sorry to interrupt. I need to talk to you and it sounded it like you were already on the subject of Tobias, so I figured now was a good time. You're talking about the sorcerer, right?"
"Hello, Arsenios," Barbatos said. "That is indeed who speak of."
You weren't too surprised that Barbatos seemed friendly with this demon. Barbatos seemed to know everybody.
"That guy summoned me to the human world and tried to make a pact with me," Arsenios said.
You exchanged a glance with Barbatos, who was no doubt concerned about this.
Solomon frowned. "Why?"
"He's been trying to force Barbatos into a pact for ages, but he hasn't been having any luck," Arsenios said. He looked at Barbatos. "He thought he could use me to get to you. He knows we're friends, thought he could get me to lure you to him."
Barbatos's grip on your hand tightened.
"So did you make a pact with him?" Solomon asked.
Arsenios snorted. "Please. You think I'd make a pact with a little punk like that? No way. I wouldn't make one with you, either, would I? No offense, Barb."
Barbatos only inclined his head in acknowledgment.
Solomon put his hands up. "Ah, my apologies! Of course you wouldn't do something like that."
Arsenios stood up. "I thought you'd wanna know, Barbatos. That sorcerer really wants to go back in time and I don't think he's going to stop trying any time soon."
You all exchanged looks as Arsenios returned to a nearby table.
Solomon looked straight at Barbatos. "Once again, I have to ask. Why didn't you tell me sooner about all of this?"
Barbatos frowned. "And as I already told you, I have had no issues handling it myself. It simply wasn't worth mentioning."
Solomon leaned toward you across the table. "That's his way of saying he didn't want to worry me about it."
"Are you sure he's not saying he thinks you couldn't take Tim in a fight?" you asked.
Solomon leaned back and looked at Barbatos again. "That's not true, is it?"
Barbatos did not respond.
"Barbatos?" Solomon asked.
You shook your head. "So what, now we have to use this knife? I didn't even know you still had it."
"I couldn't just leave it sitting around," Solomon said. "I've been keeping it safe."
"Is there really no other way to do it?" you asked, looking at the dagger as though it might come to life and destroy everything any second.
"Not without the counter curse," Solomon said.
You shuddered. "Put it away, won't you?"
Solomon took the Night Dagger off the table and tucked it back into his uniform.
"What if we just… talk to him?" you asked.
Solomon watched your face for a moment, then he laughed. "Of course you would suggest something so diplomatic. The problem is that we don't know where he is."
"There may be a way to find him," Barbatos said.
You felt Barbatos finally ease up on your hand, though he didn't actually let it go entirely. You didn't mind. You twisted your hand to lace your fingers with his, not looking over at him as you did so. You were going to take advantage of this moment to simply feel connected to him. Though you weren't sure why you wanted to feel this way considering you were connected already by the threads of the curse. You pushed that thought aside and focused on the upcoming class.

Arrie’s birthday is in a few days. I chose 3/4 because it’s a musical time signature. And when I choose birthdays I consider their zodiac signs first. Pisces was one of the signs I was considering & when I saw the option for a time signature I was like yup okay done.
Anyway, he’s gonna be 500 billion years old! Okay I actually have no idea. He’s younger than Barbatos but older than Solomon & that’s all I got.
Can I maybe get his story done in time to start it then? No probably not.
So I’m thinking I’ll update his profile page, give some new info about him, rearrange the OC section of my masterlist in general.
I’m still debating about when Ciaran’s birthday is. I can’t decide if they’re more of an Aries or a Leo. If I go with Aries their birthday will be coming up soon too.
I have OPINIONS on the canon character zodiacs but let us not get into that lol.

bunny kisses for all of ye. canon characters and ocs!!!
Yes, I agree, anon!! I admit I forgot that I changed my header image to that one of Barb with the bunny, so at first I was like ???
I just needed a change and I love that card. Only Barbatos could look that concerned about a little bunny giving him a sweet little kiss on the cheek lol.
I see more serious characters like Lucifer and Satan doing that begrudging thing where they're like okay, fine, I'll allow it because you're so cute.
And then you get characters like Asmo who are just in their element. Like I'm just seeing that guy going straight into sweet baby talk, cooing and kissing that lil bunny's head! Then it's all, MC take some pictures of him with the bunny!!
Belphie is already asleep so he doesn't even notice. The bunny could be sitting on top of his head while he snoozes away, oblivious.
Oh no Simeon and the bunny would be sooooo cute! He'd hold it all carefully and let it snuggle against his cheek, meanwhile everybody else has died because the cuteness in unbearable. Add Luke to this mix and it's all over for everyone.
The only OCs I can speak for are Arsenios and my MC Ciaran. Ciaran likes animals more than they like people, so they'd be like give me that bunny it's mine now. Arsenios would see it as a small thing that needs to be protected, so he'd be afraid to pick it up. What if he accidentally crushes it?? Won't do anything unless MC puts it in his hands. Then it's all, okay, I'm in love with this soft creature. He'd be a little hesitant, but he'd let it kiss him. All that after he probably made fun of Barbatos for looking so distraught about it, too.
Anyway, yes, bunny kisses for all!

Why do titles have to be a thing? A quick glance at my masterlist will prove that I do not enjoy doing it and mostly don't bother. I either leave them out entirely or it's like one word lol. I got lucky with Threads, the title for that hit me like a bolt of lightning and then I never looked back.
But I've been trying to come up with one for Arrie's story all day. I even spent an unfortunate amount of time sprawled across my bed, staring at the ceiling, just thinking like somehow it'd come to me in a flash of inspiration.
It did not.
In the meantime, I'm making good progress on the editing again so at least there's that. Trying to decide if I want to do profile posts for the new OCs before or after they're introduced in the story itself. Four newbies who have significant roles, one who is only mentioned by name, and one who makes an extremely brief appearance.
Also lately been thinking about Ciaran's story in general because it has three other OCs that I am also fond of... and one of them in particular has been on my mind lately.
BUT ANYWAY. The goal is to finish Arrie's story by the end of the month! I'm so determined to actually do it! But that means I also need a title 😭

You had been sitting a few seats down from Arsenios at a large table in the RAD library for some hours now. He hadn't even looked up when you sat down, completely absorbed in the papers in front of him. You didn't see any books, so you didn't think he was studying. He was relaxed, but his eyes never once left the paper. He was writing something with what appeared to be a fountain pen.
You didn't worry about it, pulling out your own books to start studying for your next exam. Every once in a while, you couldn't help peeking over at him, but he never looked up.
That is, until he finally did.
And then you were met with purple grey eyes full of curiosity and you suddenly wondered if he had been aware of you the entire time.
"You've been here for hours," he said. "Have you taken a break? You should drink some water."
You reached into your bag, pulled out your water bottle, and shook it slightly to demonstrate that it was only partly full. "Don't worry," you said. "I thought of that. Anyway, it's not like you've moved at all since I got here. Do demons not need water?"
Arsenios smiled and put his hands up. "You got me," he said.
You noticed the smudges of ink across his palms. "What have you been doing anyway?" you asked. "You have ink all over your hands."
Arsenios looked down at his hands, turning them over briefly before turning back to the pages on the table. "I was writing a song," he said. "Got caught up in it, you know? Didn't realize I was getting ink on myself. Maybe my pen has a leak?"
He picked up the pen and began to inspect it.
You sighed, taking pity on him. You took out your water bottle and a handkerchief. Then you moved a few seats down so you were sitting next to him.
"Here, let me try this," you said. You dampened the handkerchief with water and then took one of his hands.
For a moment you were distracted by the warmth of his skin and the pattern of the black magic circle tattoo on the back of it. There was a black smudge across it - ink on ink. You began to wipe at it, hoping some of it might come off.
You could feel Arsenios's eyes on you. All this time, they had been fully occupied by the sheets on the table. Now they were looking at you with that same intensity. You felt the blush creeping up your cheeks and you didn't notice how the water did nothing to remove the ink stains on his hands.
Arsenios put his free hand over yours - the one still wiping at his light brown skin with the handkerchief. Now all you could see were your hands entwined with his. You took in the tattoos, the splotches of ink, the nails painted grey.
"MC," Arsenios said, his voice somehow making your name sound like a symphony.
You looked up and saw an amused expression. It was a slightly crooked smile and gleaming eyes.
"That won't work," he said. "I can't get fountain pen ink off my fingers even when I scrub them with soap. I just have to wait a few days and it will fade on its own. I appreciate you trying, though."
You realized that meant you could move away. You could pull back your hands and go back to your seat where your books awaited you. But you couldn't bring yourself to move, caught in his touch.
Arsenios reached out to place his fingertips gently against your cheek. You should have turned away then, but instead you found yourself leaning into his hand. Your eyes closed almost of their own accord and your body involuntarily sagged. It was as though you'd been hit with a wave of fatigue that you'd been fighting off for the last hour of your study session.
"Let me walk you home, MC," Arsenios said. "You need to get some rest."
You didn't protest. You let him pull you to your feet, his hand holding onto yours as he gathered your things, shouldering your bag himself. He didn't let go until you were at the House of Lamentation's front door.

Arsenios's Story: Preview
Since today is Arsenios's birthday, I'm sharing this little snippet from his story that I've been working on. The story still doesn't have a title, but I swear I'll come up with one at some point.
I wanted to share something a little fluffy. I think this is a cute little scene. It's before all the really dramatic stuff happens in the story lol.
Note that this is just a preview and is subject to change in the final draft. As always you can find more information about Arsenios in his profile post.
Tumblr media
GN!MC x Arsenios (demon OC)
Warnings: none this is all fluff
Tumblr media
A few days later you were in your bed, staring up at the darkened ceiling. Your mind was whirring, your thoughts steadily tumbling over each other. You wanted to rest, to shut your eyes, and sleep. And yet, for some reason, you couldn't.
You sighed. You rolled over in bed and picked up your D.D.D. hoping something there could distract you.
You were going to scroll through Devilgram, but you accidentally opened your contacts instead. You saw Arsenios's name there, new among your list.
Your finger hovered over the send message option. It was late. He was probably asleep, like you should be. And it wasn't like you guys were close enough that you could just text him in the middle of the night.
And yet…
Your mind was a little cloudy from exhaustion, so you went ahead and sent a message anyway. You'd deal with any consequences later.
MC: Hey, are you still awake? Or do you have a normal sleep schedule?
What a dorky thing to say. But you didn't care because you were tired, but couldn't sleep and your brain was not fully functioning. You just needed to talk to someone. Sure, you could have sent a message to any one of the brothers. Actually, you could have just left your room and talked to them in person. Levi was certainly still awake and a good gaming session might even be something that could help. Lucifer might still be awake, too, but you were far more likely to encounter a lecture from him. But for some reason, you didn't want to do any of that.
Your phone vibrated and you nearly dropped it in surprise.
Arsenios: What's sleep? Is that a human thing?
You rolled your eyes. Now you felt a little less like a dork because you were clearly talking to someone who was even more of one than you were.
MC: Ha ha, very funny. So you are awake.
Arsenios: I am now. Did you forget to do your curses and hexes homework for tomorrow? Because if that's why you're texting me, I regret to inform you that I didn't do it either.
MC: No, unlike you I actually care about school. I know better than to think you've done any homework ever.
Arsenios: That's a relief. I wouldn't want to be known for doing homework. So what's up? Everything okay?
You paused for a moment. Was he worried about you? You shook your head. You were being silly.
MC: Nothing, really. I just can't sleep, that's all.
Arsenios: I can do something about that. Hang on.
You read this last message in confusion. You stared at the screen for a moment, not sure how to respond, when it scared you to death by ringing in your hand. Arsenios's name flashed across the screen.
He was calling you?
You swiped to answer because what else could you do?
"Um, hello?" you said.
"Hey," Arsenios said. "Sorry to just call you out of nowhere like that, but I can't help you sleep if you can't hear me."
"What are you talking about?" you asked.
There was the soft strum of guitar strings on the other line.
"Have you already forgotten?" His tone was amused. "I can sing you to sleep."
You stared at the phone for a minute. "What?"
He laughed, a soft rolling sound that sounded like music itself. "My power, remember? If you're having trouble sleeping, it would be easy for me to put a little magic into my song to help you fall asleep. Is that okay?"
Your cheeks heated up and you were glad he couldn't see you. At least he asked this time. You thought about it. It would be nice if you could just sleep right now. "Okay. But if I fall asleep…"
"Don't worry," Arsenios said. "I'll hang up. I won't hear you snoring or talking in your sleep."
"I don't do either of those things!" you said and he laughed again.
"Just get comfortable and tell me when you're ready," he said.
You readjusted yourself so that you were comfortable in your bed, keeping your D.D.D. beside you on the pillow.
"Okay," you said. "I'm ready."
"Sweet dreams, MC," Arsenios said. He started to play the guitar before you could respond. Moments later, he was singing something soft and sweet. You hadn't heard it before, so you figured it was a Devildom song of some kind. It was mellow and quiet. The baritone of his voice easily rising and falling with the notes. It was hard to believe this was the same voice that had been practically growling on stage with the band. Right now it was smooth and gentle, the acoustic hum of the guitar strings mingling perfectly.
Soon enough, your eyes began to drift closed. You felt yourself falling into a restful slumber. It was like you were wrapped up in the song's melody, held close and kept warm. Your dreams were mild and pleasant.
