When your husband tells you to take a picture of your silly somewhat nostalgic breakfast creation, twice, you take a picture. My dad used to make us waffles and let us put whatever we wanted on them. And would encourage shenanigans by pulling out tubs of fresh Braum’s ice cream. I didn’t break out the ice cream, but I did cave with mini dark chocolate chips, chopped strawberries, whipped cream and a drizzle of Hershey’s syrup. NOVEMBER TRIBUTE - about a year ago my family gave me all the family photos as “family historian”. Over the last year I spent hours sorting through album after album after album...And i found this gem!!! 💜 this is the perfect reminder of my dad’s love for my mom!! He loved her so much and he loved their life together. He loved buying her flowers and surprising her with gifts. You can see - this is what we were raised to know as “How A Man Should Treat A Woman”!!! Every little girl should get the opportunity to see a man spoil their mom and to openly & frequently express his love to her. These acts shaped me and my sisters (and i hope my brother too but Brenda will need to chime in on that - lol)!! My mom wasn’t always happy to get these gifts from him and as a little girl I didn’t know why. 🤷🏼‍♀️ When i got older I understood that as he was “spoiling” her, she was worried about money for family. We were a lower-middle class family growing up, and she paid the bills, which included parochial school for four little kids and my grandmother lived with us - 7 mouths to feed! In her world, she would have willingly sacrificed all gifts to ensure we kids had everything we needed and maybe even what we wanted. Isn’t it interesting the two very important lessons we learned in the same gesture!? Sacrifice is what you do as a mom, and cherished is how a mom should feel by her husband!
