i think i saw you posting abt mom nonomura from bloody roar once so i wanted to share w you some of her lore. she didn't know abt her furry powers until Story Things however she comes from a lineage of "strongest person in the village"
Miss Nonomura <3 <3 <3 god those fucking biceps I can 100% believe that. And what a tragic rarity that I'm used to seeing the 'strongest' woman of a clan/bloodline/village always be some tiny thing, if you showed me a picture of her out of context and just said she's the most powerful person in her village I would absolutely believe she suplexed every single other person just to be absolutely certain she was. Gosh <3
(It's so weird looking her up, even beyond the fact that there's so little of her. I mean I know Bloody Roar isn't the most mainstream FG but I think I found a grand total of four pieces of fanart for her. Apparently she was rated the most disliked character of the game, too. Are we even looking at the same character?? Augh why do I fall in love with niche characters from niche games so often, I guess probably because where else am I gonna find a badass buff boar-mom who isn't played like a total joke...but seriously, this woman has no fanart!! Or anything!! I don't even see anyone talk about her ever!!)

Saw your little thing about ask you anything, and I'm sure you've been asked this before but I haven't seen it... HOWEVER, what pieces of media do you think have inspired you the most to make your ocs and the comics that go with them?
A though question. I don't think I have anyone as a direct inspiration as "I want to draw like this artist" or "I want to create stories like this author". I'm certain that the majority of my inspiration is subconscious or runs around certain favorite tropes or themes, like punk and cyperbunk, as well as lots of music, too.
If I narrow this down to media which has really inspired me when I have encountered it the first time, then the inspiration list will be the following:
Tumblr media
Comics by Petri Hiltunen. Some of his works have been translated to English, like Anabasis. I can't remember anymore what happened in the comic Asfaltitasanko (An Asphalt Field) but I remember that it really hit me the right way when I was 13.
Tumblr media
Sláine series by Simon Bisley. It's still running and I read every new book. This is actually a feminist barbarian comic, which is a great combination and you will see echoes of that in Alrick.
Tumblr media
Hob Gandling's story in The Sandman series. Oh I wish I could experience again the time when I read the story for the first time. I was mind opening for a 13 year old.
Tumblr media
Vintage manga from 70's and 80's, as well as anime from 90's and early 2000 (like Slayers Next below). Expressions were very prominent back then and I do generously use that whenever possible. I was SUPER happy when I started watching Jujutsu Kaisen and it had those really big expressions!
Tumblr media
I think that from anime, I should perhaps mention Bleach, because Grimm is inspired by Bleach series Grimmjow. Who is, by the way, also a cat (a panther).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alrick, the whole premise of Death-Head Organization and the generous use of black, solid masses gets all its inspiration from a manga Sun-Ken Rock. Especially from the protagonist Ken Kitano, who is the best positive masculine example in any media I have ever encountered. Also, Algoth looks is inspired by Ken's right hand man, Benito Armani:
Tumblr media
For the animals and animal parts of the characters in DHD, I LOVE kemonomimi! For other series, inspiration comes from game series Bloody Roar and from a comic series Blacksad. Rena is inspired by Bloody Roar's Mitsuko the Wild Boar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We simply can't forget fashion! Metal, punk, cyberpunk, kinksters, and other dark dressed underground people. I'm asked at times why everyone seems to dress up the same and my answer is that since the comic is black and white, with black outfits I get to add some contrast to it. Alexander McQueen is awesome!
Tumblr media
Other mentions to practice keeping mind open, which allows stories to be formed without judgment or thinking that I have no base for this: - Jeffrey Burton Russell's books about the Devil and religious history - Conspiracy theories (as what kinds of things people believe in and how they find evidence for it to support their views, including opposing conspiracy theories like Moon landing was fake VS Moon landing did happen but we haven't gone back because of aliens on the Moon) - Quantum physics
I'm certain you can pick up more things which have inspired me from my stories and drawings. But, if we speak ONLY about Death-Head's Deal, then underground fashion, Sun-Ken Rock, 80's and 90's vintage manga&anime, and Blacksad are the ones.

Characters - Rena
Tumblr media
Rena is the leader of Eastern Faction and Alrick’s boss.
Rena is inspired by Mitsuko Nomura from the Bloody Roar-game series. Wild Boar is also my own Lunar Zodiac Sign.
I’m not sure of Rena’s surname yet but it could be Remy(?)
Rena’s hobby is going to the gym.
Rena is a strict but fair boss.
Rena seems to show her feelings somewhat openly.

Iron Town is a refuge for outcasts and lepers employed to process iron and create firearms, such as hand cannons and matchlock muskets. He then manages to rescue two of the men fallen from the cliff and transports them back through the forest, where he briefly glimpses the Great Forest Spirit.Īshitaka and the survivors arrive at Iron Town, where he is greeted with fascination. Down below, Ashitaka encounters San and the wolves, who rebuff his greeting. Riding one of the wolves is San, a human girl. Nearby, men on a cliffside herd oxen to their home of Iron Town, led by Lady Eboshi, and repel an attack by a wolf pack led by the wolf goddess Moro, whom Eboshi wounds with a gun shot. Heading west, Ashitaka meets Jigo, an opportunistic monk who tells Ashitaka he may find help from the Great Forest Spirit, a deer-like animal god by day and a giant Night Walker by night. The village's wise woman tells Ashitaka that he may find a cure in the western lands that the demon came from, and that he cannot return to his homeland. The villagers discover that the demon was a boar god, corrupted by an iron ball lodged in his body. The curse grants him superhuman strength, but it also causes him pain and will eventually kill him. The last Emishi prince, Ashitaka, kills it before it reaches the village, but it manages to grasp his arm and curse him before its death. In Muromachi Japan, an Emishi village is attacked by a hideous demon. The film greatly increased Ghibli's popularity and influence outside Japan. It was dubbed into English with a script by Neil Gaiman, and initially distributed in North America by Miramax, where it sold well on DVD and video, despite a poor box office performance. It was a critical and commercial blockbuster, becoming the highest-grossing film in Japan of 1997, and also held Japan's box office record for domestic films until 2001's Spirited Away, another Miyazaki film. The film was released in Japan on Jby Toho, and in the United States on October 29, 1999. The term mononoke ( 物の怪), or もののけ, is not a name, but a Japanese word for supernatural, shape-shifting beings that possess people and cause suffering, disease, or death. The story follows a young Emishi prince named Ashitaka, and his involvement in a struggle between the gods of a forest and the humans who consume its resources. Princess Mononoke is set in the late Muromachi period of Japan (approximately 1336 to 1573 CE), but it includes fantasy elements. The film stars the voices of Yōji Matsuda, Yuriko Ishida, Yūko Tanaka, Kaoru Kobayashi, Masahiko Nishimura, Tsunehiko Kamijo, Akihiro Miwa, Mitsuko Mori and Hisaya Morishige. IPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad iPad, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 4, 9.Princess Mononoke ( Japanese: もののけ姫, Hepburn: Mononoke- hime) is a 1997 Japanese animated epic historical fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten, Nippon Television Network and Dentsu.

Bloody Roar redesign concept breakdowns Part 2
Just like the first set, I’m gonna write down some of my thoughts on the BR fan redesigns I did!
Golan Draphan/Ganesha (Elephant)
Tumblr media
Golan is the body guard for the prince of the Zoanthrope Kingdom, but in the original, while penguin boy got to have a cool futuristic outfit, Golan did god cosplay. For the redesign I just thought “Wouldn’t it be nice to just see him in a simple suit?” Maybe that’s just me. I also made h is facial hair more tusk like, I think it makes him more dynamic and interesting.
Jenny (Bat)
Tumblr media
Jenny is meant to be a supermodel who is secretly an assassin. I wanted to give her a look that was reminiscent of her earlier outfits, but less complicated for her to do her job in every day. Also, as she turns into a bat, I wanted to make her look like a character you’d meet in a Vampire: The Masquerade game.
Mitsuko (Boar)
Tumblr media
Momma’s back from the first game! She was a shopkeeper/fishmonger in the originals, I wanted to update her to be a modern older lady shopkeeper, trying to hang on to some youthfulness, but still big and beefy as ever. And I gave her shop a cute boar logo, maybe it sells pork buns!
Stun (Beetle)
Tumblr media
Stun was interesting, I didn’t want to change him much looks-wise. I mostly wanted his outfit to be less complicated, and more mysterious. I also didn’t want it to be too flashy, but some of my choices were based on his fighting style being pro wrestling, so his shin guards and knee pads are meant to evoke that a bit.
Long (Tiger)
Tumblr media
I wanted to simplify Long’s look a lot, he often wears very elaborate traditional outfits due to his fighting style. I wanted a version of him that was more of a “street fighter” if you will. Last minute I also had the idea to give him claws. I thought maybe if a highly skilled martial artist could transform into a tiger, they might teach themselves to fight with claws even when in human form.

Hello & thank you for blessing the world with yet another DHD comic, I can't stop thinking about this wonderful world (& character 💙) you've created!! I found it really interesting to discover that Alrick is a bunny in the 3rd comic! Between the "death's head" name & make-up & the bunny ears, I thought those were moth antennae for a long while & that he was actually a moth 😅 Very pleasantly surprised to discover he is a bunny 🐰🤍 (1/2)
Your character designs are my favourite part of the comics btw!! Rena totally impressed me when I first saw her & I also love Cat (who is in fact a mouse hehe 🐹), although they're all very inventive! I'll be keeping an eye out for any future instalments. Kiitos ja onnea ^_^ (2/2)
---
Kiitos paljon! :3
Well, Alrick DOES have a bunny tail :D
I intentionally wanted a mouse woman to be called Cat but Rena then mentioned her full name is Catherine. Though it seems no one uses that for her and Cat herself also seems to be wanted to be called Cat instead.
I'm really glad you like the characters! I rarely design them, just draw them directly into the comic. If I'm unsure, I might do some try outs first, like I did with Dio, because I've never drawn a shark and suddenly Dio appears and is a shark anthro so, uh... I think I need to see a bit how to draw this one!
But Dio's final design is the one you see in the comic and that one I drew directly without prior planning. I usually have a feeling of the character and I try to draw things that fit that inner "knowing".
Rena is inspired very heavily by Mitsuko from Bloody Roar-game series. A Wild Boar is also my Lunar zodiac sign.

Seeing a lot of people fawning over Alrick which he absolutely deserves but can I just say I am looking at Rena and going 😳😳💜
(Love your comics so much btw your style is like my favorite thing ever)
I like Rena myself, too. I'm sure you'll see Rena more as the fraction boss in upcoming Alrick stories. As we have seen, to proceed with some requests, Alrick (and other Eastern Death-Heads) need Rena's approval. It's a legal part of how Death-Heads work but I don't know all the details yet.
Rena has gotten inspiration from Mitsuko from Bloody Roar-game series. It's one of my teenager years' games. I think we need more characters like bad mama Mitsuko! Boar/Pig is also my Chinese zodiac.
