So cowboys were actually mostly poc, queer people and gnc people. This is because cow herding was not an easy job, so people who were ostracized in society found it easier to get work their, for a less nuanced version of it (because I'm on 8%). You're correct in that vaqueros were primarily poc and/or queer, but the notion that they were made up of ostracized people is more for the American cowboys, as vaqueros in Mexican and Native cultures were highly respected by their people! Usually, vaqueros were norteños (Northern Mexican men), Mexican indigenous, American indigenous, black, or mixed men! They were hired to cattle ranchers often to herd cattle, and known for reata, which is the art of lassoing to catch animals (I'm not sure how to explain better in English sorry).

There were many competitions for vaqueros to show off their lasso skills, my stepdad actually participates in local shows/competitions! He's won a few too it's super cool! In the modern area, cowboys as we know them from the American side are usually wealthier ranchers. They tend to own a lot of land and animals, and are usually cornerstones of their communities For Mexican and Indigenous vaqueros, in my experience, they're usually the common person and not exclusive to wealthier families. Many families grow up with bringing their kids into the lifestyle, and are usually small business owners. They get hired on to do the 'dirtier' work of caring for the horses' and cattle wellbeing, such as trimming and shoeing their hooves, branding, and training younger foals.

For the ones that were ostracized from society, though, you're correct that it was sometimes a sad life for them. It was often the only way of living for queer people in the southwest, as they were limited in what they could do to live sustainably. Unfortunately, cowboys and vaqueros were looked down on my Americans taking over the west, and it wasn't uncommon for even the most kind cowboys' names to be tarnished. Because the American school system is very limited (being nice about it) in what they teach, and have looked down on cowboys and vaqueros because they were poc and/or queer, even though they were greatly respected by their own communities.

The irony is that American cowboys are seen as one of the highest examples of masculinity at the same time. It's disappointing, because there's so much history and culture within old vaqueros that is incredibly interesting! I'm particularly disappointed with the lack of information on queer vaqueros, but I know there's more research going on about them at the moment! Hopefully we'll have more history revealed soon!

* If they do not confess the symptoms of the love potion will get worse. It’ll start from plain ideas and thoughts about the person to a want to be near them to almost 24/7 thinking about them.

* Shang Tsung wanted to make a love potion more powerful and destructive but he was busy with figuring out tarkat businesses and left it to sit.

* The potion in itself is less like a curse and more of a test/psychological mingling. It doesn’t effect people who are not in love or don’t already feel some sort of attraction already. Meaning it makes the person affected feel things but when the confessions are told it has to be done with actuall love and not just for the convenience of the person affected.

2) By accident. Johnny is pretty bad at hiding his emotions so over time Kenshi starts to notice signs after a while its an indication of the love potion getting stronger. Kenshi finally ends up confronting Johnny about eveything because he’s afraid of getting used and Johnny trying to explain himself let’s his words slip and out of panic kisses Kenshi, to which Kenshi reciprocates.

* And with gift giving it’s usually small stuff but still with lots of meaning.

* Kenshi gave the sword that he carried before getting Sento to Johnny as a token of his appreciation. He also bought him a display for it.

* Usually Kenshi’s gifts to Johnny tend to be related to japan or history.

* They both know how to make food: Kenshi can cook more than Johnny so somedays he will prepare food for him sometimes Japanese other times American and so on.

* Yes Kenshi is an introverted individual but over time he begins to also show signs of jealousy and possessive.

* One of the ways he does that is by just intimidating anyone that he doesn’t like. Either by showing off his katana or making the other person leave by using his telepathy.

* If Kenshi confesses first it’ll be in a quiet place either somewhere outside the Wu Shi property when the moon is shining, giving a full speech and a declaration of love to Johnny.

GerIta Week 2023 - Day 7 - Engagement/ Weddings

The royalty regalia wedding outfits were designed carefully and creatively with my imagination and creativity, after referencing lots of sources for fashions in various periods in history. They are all inspired mostly by ancient historical medieval German and Italy Fashion feat some of the likes in other nations mixed in a little. That’s all for the brief description of costumes since explaining in detail would be too time-consuming…..

Here’re my outfits design sketches for Italy and Germany ..... and some random materials of references in endless sources I’ve based on (source mostly from world4.eu .....)

As GerIta melting like ice on a desert in each other passionate endearing yet soft gentle hugs and kisses vowing and exchanging wedding rings, they happen to find out previous lives in sudden rememberance.

In one life, they were enemies to lovers but unable to marry due to wars. In another life, they were King and Jack of the kingdom of Heart in which Feliciano chasing after Ludwig. Then in other lives, they were couples, in the form of kittens, in shapes of mochis, and so on.

Any boundaries, whatever circumstances, they always fell in love with one another. Despite being human, animal, unknown creatures, or living in what universe, era, or countries speaking what languages, Love found them always. They were destined to be together. Ever since forever till now and forever more. Everlasting love felt so illusional still real no less.

P/S : Actually the colors and effects vary up to the light's difference Some parts were eaten and ruined by cockroaches while I was busy doing other stuff and forgot to put the drawing away…..

Fortunately, I’ve had experience in drawing and fixing traditional art so it turned out nicely, not bad at all

I did want to write some more lines for other details,like the national flowers or especially the gigantic magical iridescent flying creatures and such but that’s all for now …..

Base reference is forgotten, I will add it later when I find it.

Any Kanae headcannons? (Or maybe an AU where she lives)

I've have two other Asks for Kanae Lives AUs, so here we shall focus on headcanons! --Kanae is not as patient and sweet to her core as Shinobu believes she is. She gets annoyed with Shinobu at times and has disbelief for how she can be dense enough to think that "Kamasu" and other odd species names would make a good name for a human girl.

--However, Kanae has figured out that she can annoy Shinobu by laying into the sweetness so as to toss aside whatever Shinobu is saying when she's being stubborn or ridiculous

--Kanae wishes Shinobu would shut up about how talented she is as things like flower arranging and tea ceremony. If Shinobu admired those things so much she should had just learned them too instead of whining about them being boring.

--That said, Kanae is driven by Shinobu's faith in her. It's a "be the person your dog thinks you are" kind of idea. Not that she sees Shinobu as a dog, Shinobu would hate that... but that does make it funnier to see Shinobu like a clingy little dog.

--Kanae also amuses herself with silly ideas like this which she doesn't dare to speak a word of. What does that make Sanemi? A big dog who growls and then wags his tail if you teach him to play fetch?

--I wrote this into a fanfic, but the cup game was a reinvention of an event in Kanae and Shinobu's childhood, and she pretended it was a game for rehabilitation training so as to give Sanemi something to do when he was bored and crabby in the hospital.

--I wrote this into another fanfic, but Kanae and Shinobu were fiercely competitive at Karuta. Kanae always won.

--Kanae was so close and comfortable with Himejima (but still kept a respectable distance) that people almost suspected they were a couple, or at least that Kanae might have had feelings for him. Those people thought seemed like the type to go for an older man (and never would had imagined anything between her and Sanemi).

--Kanae did want to get married, someday. She couldn't see it happening while she was able-bodied for demon slaying, but she took pleasure in the domestic sides of life and caring for her adopted girls. That's why she wished for Shinobu to find that joy in life instead of continuing to slay demons (though it was a fruitless wish and she knew it).

--Kanae had an appreciation for poetry and literature and history, hence why she suggested a surname like Tsuyuri.

--She does not appreciate ghost stories, though, and cannot fathom why Shinobu is so into that stuff.

--Kanae always arranged flowers in the tokonoma (decorative alcove). After she died, Shinobu couldn't stand to not see Kanae's arrangements there, so she placed her fishbowl there instead.

--Kanae had a way of sweetly shutting Uzui up if he was getting too flamboyant wanting to see someone's veins burst or something. Uzui felt a little awkward around her because she had such an ability to defuse an flamboyant situation. He found her kind of annoying.

--After Shinobu made the dramatic scene at the bridge and decision to bring Kanao home, Kanae started picking up orphans left and right. Shinobu never intended for this to happen.

--Kanae was a favorite of her cultivator, but excelled at Flower Breathing because she was extremely hard on herself. There was some "I'm the eldest daughter" willpower involved.

--She and Douma perhaps had an interesting conversation before the battle, however short. Enough for her to see through Douma.

--Whatever Kanae's favorite food was, be it mochi or chocolate or butterbur sprouts, she was very excited about getting to eat it or very sad whenever she didn't get to. No one knew this, she kept it all very quietly to herself. Maybe Sanemi picked up on whatever it was and gave her some and got overwhelmed with how happy it made her.

--Kanae and Sanemi had pretty reasonable conversations about how she pitied demons and how vehemently he disagreed. He stayed well behaved around her, after all.

--At first Kanae didn't realized Giyuu was her age. She thought he was younger and being quiet out of respect. She thought that was cute but was embarrassed at herself later when learning how old he was.

- "You see, each yatai float has a unique ornament. Pay attention to the details. Look, here is another float";

- He took lots of pictures of you and the surroundings, but showed only the lame ones to you :') ;

- If there is a crowd he might pick you up and place on his shoulder to provide a better view and to make sure you're not squished by the said crowd;

- "Actually, we are lucky the weather is fine. They cancel it when- drip-drop … Guess we do have a bad luck";

- You went to the exposition because of the rain;

- "Um.. Are you alright? You seem like you are about to collapse";

- Towards the end of the festival you were exhausted;

- You finally got back to the hotel and Kaoru carried you to your room;

- At least you bought snacks and other souvenirs so tomorrow you don't have to worry about buying them;

- Now you two just laid on a bed and watched movies;

- When you fell asleep Kaoru stared at you for a bit, covered you with a blanket and went to his room;

ALRIGHT. SONGBIRD VAMPIRES. this will probably be in a fic at some pointish?? but I'm never quite sure what details will Exactly go in and what won't. so lore dump time! I'm gonna put it all under a read more

okay, let's first talk about how vampires were even created. and this kinda gets more into like, general songbird supernatural lore anyways.

all supernaturals were originally human. but something happened, and a few humans were mutated (let it be known that the world is magical. there is innate magic in the world and little pockets of magic that can be nurtured in full on realms. but that magic is all latent in the beginning) and those mutations brought about the beginning of creatures like werewolves and vampires. it all depends on whatever the mutated humans were hit with. if they were mutated by magic, chances are they'd become the first fae, or other creatures that feed on magic and stuff.

so we have that vampires came from humans but like. their development was shifted wildly to the left.

great, wonderful okay. I think their evolution to the current day vampires were absolutely slow, it probably started off with them feeding from animals for blood and as their magic grew in strength, animals weren't enough so they moved on to people. etc, etc. we know how evolution works here.

eventually we hit a point where vampires stop evolving, and they're our favorite little bloodsuckers that we all know and love <3

so the biggest thing about vampires in songbird is that they're top of the food chain. like, out of every supernatural, vampires hold the most power. they're the ones in charge, that's why it's called the vampire council, not smth like the council of supernaturals. each species may have their own inner governing and hierarchy, but ultimately, everyone answers to the vampire council.

and fun fact! okay wait, pause on the fun fact. first. I am a big european history nerd okay. I love learning about europe's history and everything and OUGH. right, okay. preface over, back to the fun fact (you'll see why I mention this)

so fun fact! the vampire council wasn't created until like. the middle of the eighteenth century??? so about the middle/nearing the end of the enlightenment era. long story short, there was a lot of in fighting with the supernaturals, as at the time they had a system similar to a monarchy, but as we know from humans, the enlightenment was a time of humanism and philosophy and dismantling the monarchies that ruled them. in that regard, we can Specifically look at the french revolution (my favorite history topic btw) where the french quite literally overthrew king louis and queen marie antoinette.

the humans enlightenment era kind of rubbed off on the supernatural population, and it had them thinking. but that's all I'll say for now <3

with vampires being at the top of the food chain, naturally they ended up being the ones in power, hence the vampire council. Most supernaturals are alright with this, but there are some that are... less than pleased.

that's pretty much the Full backstory of songbird vampires. as for lil quirks they have, we know from mumbo and grian's discussion that vampires can actually go out in the daylight! they just need some kind of coverage to protect them from the sun. we Also know that they have magic, and we've seen from mumbo and jrum that vampires can all have different abilities.

though there's maybe like one or two abilities that they all have??? compulsion is one of them, as we saw with mumbo. and then ofc there's also the increased strength, sight, hearing, etc etc

we do also have a clan/coven system! there's 13 clans of vampires, the leader of each clan being a member of the vampire council. each clan can be broken up into smaller subgroups, that's the covens. I'll leave other details hush hush since I know when they'll be explained <3

there's also a super fun fact that all vampires are just chronic insomniacs FJFHFJG. back before the council was established, it used to be that vampires slept during the day and were awake at night. however, when you're in an ongoing fight against another supernatural (whether it be person or big group) your sleeping habits change in case of a surprise attack. and so the whole sleeping during the day thing sort of just fizzled out, and younger vampires have really wonky sleep schedules.

aaaaand then we've got thralls. ohhhh thralls are Fun in songbird. so. thralls here aren't just humans. they can be other vampires or other supernaturals. all it takes is drinking blood from that same vampire a few times, a blood bond. except the way thralls are Specifically played here is they're sort of in the this in-between state of humanoid and vampire. they have the looks of a human, yet all they have keeping them going are the characteristics of a vampire, the instincts.

thralls in songbird are humanoid creatures who don't speak, act human, but are led purely by their bloodthirsty instinct. throw in that extreme desire and loyalty to their vampire, and you have the perfect puppet. also the fun thing is rather than the classic two fangs, you've got thralls who have a full set of pointy teeth. fangs. a full mouth of fangs. and they're driven by a more... animalistic instinct, I guess?

The Chain getting introduced to Japanese cuisine and culture via Onimusha!Reader. They just tend to do strange stuff that results in a Link asking questions. One example being Reader making themselves breakfast.

Wild would practically be asking for recipes and Reader has a huge self made cookbook. Their Oni Gauntlet can act like a storage for various items than just demon souls or their weapons. One such thing they carry are scrolls.

Reader: I'm transcribing. Before I got warped by that shadow, I found some old scrolls in an abandoned library. Half of them written about my clan's history.

They picked up various skills over the long long time they've lived, from Edo Period to Modern Age. Being called just makes Reader laugh merrily as it's more of a compliment to them.

Reader: Age comes with the blessing to learn more! To improve on one's skills and understand the world around them better. If you are going to call me old, then the term 'Sēji' or Sage is very appropriate. A philosopher tends to teach others after all.

Time nods in acknowledgement. He's still fascinated by the food and how they cook and is taking notes.

Four and Legend are asking all sorts of questions about where they've been and what they've done and are taking advantage of the supposed history they have in their vicinity.

Wild is of course, learning new recipes, naturally.

Warrior and Twilight are a bit lost on either side but they're willing to roll with the punches.

Hyrule is here to eat. He's going to try everything.

Sky and Wind are going to see if Reader is willing to do any stupid stunts with them that Time would otherwise shut down. They want to see what they can get away with.

you can actually see the different ways people pronounced sugar. One medicinal manuscript for England calls it zuccari, in Latin it was called zuccaram or succaram and in Persia it was sakar. It's actually similar to how the pronunciation of words like maize evolved, especially in isolation. It's actually scalled sukar in Arabic, which is pretty similar to how it was back then.

I love etymology so much!! My favorite are words that develop between bilingual families or borderlands, it's so cool seeing how language develops there!!! It's also kinda cool to see how everyone develops such similar words for the same thing, but just a bit different. It's super neat!

Wait... you know Hetalia???!!!

I love Hetalia and I'm forever thankful that I was never exposed/encountered the bad side of it, especially since I've been in the Hetalia fandom for a long time. It does make me feel sad that whenever I bring up Hetalia, it's the bad side people only know 😔.

I still follow Himaruya's post (comic strips), if there's a new season, new character song, new theme song, drama cds, new musical, and merch. Atm, I have a mochi England plushie (it's the only one available) and a hetalia jacket. (I'm poor).

I fell inlove with history (I now love historical (even war) movies and known as the weird but smart/nerd and quiet student 🤣😅) and came to appreciate languages and culture of other countries, really fascinating. I also became a yearly viewer of Eurovision 😅. Some songs are in my playlist.

I love the characters cause despite them being based on stereotypes, you can see that they have their own distinct personality. Also the fact that they have human names, it really helps prevent people from thinking I'm crazy XD.

For anyone wondering (since I saw some anons who didn't know about it), Hetalia is a comedy/satire show/comic starring the personification of countries. Every epsiode is only 5 minutes so it's very quick. It can be/seem offensive, depending how you take some moments. It sometimes hits you with emotional damage out of nowhere and that's what I'm focused on in this fandom. Angst and historical aus is my bread and butter. Eng dub is great, it's like an official abridged XD. Be ready for the accents. It also has a movie. Expect silly moments most of the time. The story is not linear, it tackles history from 900-1000's to present time. It sometimes feels like a slice of life anime with historical/cultural trivias/jokes sprinkled in there. It has canon AUs as well like nyotalia, which is basically genderbent version of chars or nekotalia, which is the cast as cats. Advice, take the infos in the show with a grain of salt and maybe don't take everything seriously. It consists of a lot of male characters , so very limited female cast.

Now for the fandom, I can't control what part of it you may run into so uh... goodluck. Lucky for you, it's chill compared to what it's like before, like no joke. It does feel barren sometimes. Just beware ig lol. (I'm not really showing confidence towards the fandom, despite being part of it HAHAHAH XD) Be ready for the weirdness, we have Iceland x Fridge, Gru (yes from despicable me) x lovino (s. italy), sweden x ikea, toris (lithuiana) x therapy/happiness to name a few (crack) ships and a fricking religion called Doitsuism, idk why but it exists. 😂🤣🤣😅😭

If anyone is curious about character songs theres: aiyaa 4000 years (china), Moi moi (Finland), How about me (Estonia), Excuse me I'm sorry (Japan), white flame (Russia), and steady rhythmus (Germany) to name a few. There's a ton more, some have multiple char songs, while others have only one song. There's also group songs (two of which are christmas songs). Every song is sung by their VAs in the anime, including the ending songs. It has multiple versions so if you're tired listening to Italy singing the ed, try to listen to idk England's version, each one has different vibe and unique lyrics fitting for the char. Example, Ed 1 can be orchestral or rock depending which version you listened to, really cool stuff imo.

I know I seem lazy with Kimetsu Kitchen lately. I am cooking stuff, even though I hate cooking, okay? There's an ingredient I'm practicing with before doing it for another Kimetsu recipe but so far my results suck.

That said, I did choose to go buy Ohagi instead of making it, and I was almost so lazy that had I found loquats at the grocery store, I would have brought one home and taken a picture and said "it's Nakime, get it? It's a biwa."

To my credit, I have made mitarashi dango. It was pretty easy, too. The problem is that you can make so much mochi with a single small bag of mochi flour. It was years ago, I was trying it out with one of my siblings and we had so much mochi that we ran out of anko and quickly had to resort to looking up a mitarashi dango recipe to do something with all that other mochi. And it was good! It had a nice mix of saltiness and sweetness. But we had plates and plates and plates of the stuff, even in a household bigger than a certain ninja clan we couldn't find enough people to eat that stuff and finish it off. No thanks. I'm not repeating that. Here, here's an English recipe, you do it. I'm just here to be a dorky nerd.

I am a perfectly presentable human being. Not to worry, that's not the mask I actually went out in. This one was frustratingly made with the pattern upside down but it's got a spot more Haganezuka style, so I made it work.

The UNESCO World Heritage site referred to is Shimogamo Shrine (which you might know from another anime, Eccentric Family/Uchouten Kazoku, as the home of the titular tanuki family), one of the two major Kyoto shrines associated with the Aoi Festival. If you think I used the KnY cast for mnemonics in studying this festival for a Nerd Test, you are correct. One of the rituals of this festival is when the Sai-Ou, the shrine maiden whom this whole procession is centered around, cleanses her hands at this pond on the shrine grounds. This ritual handwashing is called "Mitarashi". Literally, (honorific)-hand-washing: 御手洗. Since Mitarashi Dango (みたらし団子) is typically written with the 'Mitarashi' in phonetic hiragana, I was stunned when I first read about the ritual (before knowing the origin of the sweet), for I thought the sweet was named like this because you have to wash your hands after eating something so sticky.

Unsurprisingly, the religious ritual is performed at a place called Mitarashi Pond, and there is a place for offerings next to it. The two paper lanterns on either side were contributed by the nearby tea house, Kamo Mitarashi Chaya.

The tea house is just across the street from the shrine grounds. Like many sites popular with religious pilgrims throughout history and all around the world, there are restaurants and gift shops lining the way to the sacred grounds to cater to all the visits, and in Japan's case, this is how many sweets become famous and carry an eternal tie with those religious sites even if the connections are tenuous. Some sweets you can only get by visiting the generations-old shops in person, other sweets are spread throughout the country and anyone can make them. This is what happened in the case of Mitarashi Dango, this tea house had a hit with their addictive sweet and salty sauce and now you can find it ready made in grocery stores across Japan.

Even Aoi, who is talented and can do anything, even cooking (she has my respect) says to Inosuke that she'll "go out and buy some" later because it's just that easy. Plus, my girl Aoi knows better than to make a giant batch of that stuff if she doesn't have to.

It's a very typical little tea house selling a typical array of traditional sweets. When I walked in the first thing they did was pitch their shaved ice to me. A fun fact: in their garden, they have a little temple dedicated to Kishimojin, literally, "demon baby mother god," who is a deity who had 500 children whom she loved and cared for but would steal unrelated children to eat them. A Buddhist monk hid her baby one day and she saw the evil of her ways, repented, studied Buddhism and become virtuous. Yeah, Muzan would probably sneer if he heard a story like that.

Anyway! That pond back on the shrine has another famous practice: washing away paper dolls which have soaked up the impurities and bad influences of the world on behalf of human beings. The simple paper dolls have a vaguely human shape, like Shikigami. I bring this up because while most people picture dango coming in sticks of three big dumplings (though the one Aoi gave Haganezuka had four), it's made here at Kamo Mitarashi Chaya with five small dumplings, to more vaguely represent a human form.

NOM.

I really like my mitarashi dango small instead of huge, it makes for a more generous sauce-to-mochi ratio, and while it can be troublesomely sticky and dripping to eat (I broke my toothpick trying to get them off the skewer and be neat), it is indeed as addictive as anything with a base of sugar or soy sauce might usually be. The small mochi is chewy and soft with a nice crispy texture on the charred bits.

This was a perfect amount to say "mm, that's tasty, I want more, more!! Okay, that's enough."

This tea house offers them for both eat-in and take-out, and having eaten them both ways, I strongly suggest eating them in person. With time to sit, the mochi gets firmer, and the silky sauce begins to harden so that all the dango gets stuck together, and it get even harder to have any delicacy as you eat them. If it wasn't bad enough trying to get my family to eat them all, the time I had these as take-home they were a gift to my office, and I had to force people to hurry and eat them before they were hopelessly stuck not only to each other, but to every surface in the office.
