i already posted my modlist here on my blog! here u go!
i actually DID end up cheating a bit more than i initially speak about intending to here LOL, but i figure i'll leave those decisions up to u so these mods are alllll QOL and presentation focused

replaying OG FF7 modded with Mick (he's never seen it fully through, but played Crisis Core) and it's amazing what a tiny model improvement does for the game lmao

Sadly, I can't download Ever Crisis on my tablet. So I'm trying to work out how to get Bluestacks to work (it never works any times I try to use it in the past) so I can play Ever Crisis.
Or maybe I'll just go back to heavily modded OG FF7 to scratch that itch.

im going to cry ff7 remake rlly is just sephiroth trying to write a time travel fix it (or whatev bizarre idea he has of fixing,,,) and just. making things a burning dumpster fire. wtf man look at what u did!! u made the main group fight the emobdiement of fate or whatev! u made parallel universes?? IDKK. when i watched a playthrough of it i thought it was like. a full redo of the og game following the plot exactly and that was my first exposure to ff7. but uh ig its,,,canon divergence?? an au?? nomura rlly went what if we let sephiroth write a (dubious) fix it. like ngl i am curious to see where it'll go but. it rlly is a trip finding that out ToT.
100% there with you!!!!!!! OH MAN
So I have played 80% of the original before I played the remake, so im aware of some differences. I played 70% of the remake but have not finished yet- but I spoiled myself and watched reviews so I know there's some time travel, multiple sephiroths, some very curious things afoot and most important - the potential for the remake to have a completely new unknown story than the original.
(On a fan level I am. Mildly annoyed because I only ever wanted a very easy thing: the original with just slightly nicer models than ugly Legos, and voice acting, for a remake. That's all I wanted. And apparently the mod Echo S for computer with the original steam version of ffvii will fulfill my wish for that eventually. So like I've long accepted that this Remake is not what I wanted, but instead more like yet another new addition to the compendium extended story of new FFVII materials like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus were. Which when I view it that way, i like it much better. But still tiny bit bitter they never just went the much easier remaster route back in the ps3 era lol. I am also as a gamer a bit annoyed they padded the Remake part 1 wirh so many long dungeon segments the original did not have, void of story moments or any additions except extra game play time, when I'd have preferred a game taking me 20 hours to 40 but wirh more story content/meaningful content per minute but that's more my personal preference).
I am. Very fascinated by whatever the fuck is going on wirh sephiroth in Remake. By the fact my boy zack may be alive my fave ff character.
By rhe fact I have a theory this sephiroth may either be pre Nibelheim sephiroth (which was a lot more like zack fair and Angelus and might even ally with cloud) or post Advent Children like, which also would be a sephiroth more self aware of Aerith and Zack Fair and Cloud and what Shinra did, what the planet wants, how he was played personally when emotional etc. Which could also end up more finding himself allied instead of a full on bad guy this time around which would be fascinating, although it would be a bigger divergence. Especially with zack fair around, and zack fairs background as a work Peer of sephiroth who actually helped him and went thru being experimented on too. His connection to cloud and sephiroth and aerith, how that could affect who would be so hostile or less hostile to who. There is a Lot of cool room for exploration. Now... do i trust square Enix to logically thoughtfully explore these cool angles they have opened themselves up to? Lol well I'm not sure I do. But there's a cool potential to be sure
Anyway like you said IT SURE IS A TRIP FINDING IT OUT and I'm still contemplating tbh. Will be contemplating more wjen I beat remake or finish watching a lets play lol
I would highly recommend the original or a lets play though. If you can tolerate the graphics and age! The remake seems to be in a way JUST as much an additional new game, as Crisis Core was a prequel or Dirge of Cerberus was a sequel. So I feel like seeing the original is some useful plot info, and I'm not entirely sure the Remake moving forward will either go back to Similar to original or diverge even more thoroughly.
I'm happy to report tifa/aerith being super close was also a thing in the original and I love that, aerith being kickass and less shy than tifa was in the original like the remake, cloud is a tiny confused man pretending to be tough in both, Barret is fairly on point, and overall i found all the characterizations fairly good in tje remake (sephiroth is somewhat different but he's clearly not following originals plot so I'm not sure where he's at in his characterization arcs lol).

What are the mun/mods thoughts on the FF7 Compilation?
I've already explained my thoughts here, but I will sum them up.
FF7 still would’ve been timeless without it, but the Compilation of FF7 wasn't a bad idea in the slightest. However its only successes were one game and one movie, and even those had some flaws. Though I do think a part of the problem, aside from just bad writing, is the tone and feeling, like when you’re playing the OG game and looking at the compilation stuff, you don’t really 100% buy that it all connects aside from little bits and pieces, with the only exceptions being Sephiroth’s CC characterization and a good chunk of Advent Children. Still I will die on the hill that as a concept and idea the compilation of FF7 wasn't worthless and to add onto that...
Thank God For The Remake Continuity for its efforts at reworking some of this shit in some capacity.

I've never been deep in ff7 fandom. In fact, the first thing that got me into final fantasy anything was AC and that was just by chance because it was in my youtube recommendations. I had know idea about the shipping War that is the ff7 fandom. So I thought you were exaggerating how delusional some CA are until I read a post by theycallmeeljefe that the buster sword belonged to/represented Zack in ACC. In the comments a CA actually used a FREAKING ff7 themed PARFAIT CUP as proof that the buster sword is only cloud's and the ending of ACC where its left in the church with the flowers represents CA! (Like, Yes, the all knowing dessert transcends all!🙄🤦🏻‍♀️) How did they get that!? Especially when the devs went out of their way to make AC then ACC with all the added Zack scenes and his association with the buster sword in the film! If anything cloud is letting go of Aerith. During the entire movie cloud struggles with depression, guilt, not to mention a disease and by the end he's able to start moving on and be happy with the people he loves and who are still around. By leaving the items that represent Zack and aerith in the place where it all began for them (the church) Cloud is letting go of his guilt of both Zack and aerith's deaths while preserving the remembrance of his friendship with them. Letting both parties have closure and finally be at peace. Zack and aerith go back to the life stream together =zerith. Cloud and Tifa go back home with the kids= cloti. Cloud also stopped using the buster sword years ago and got a new one. Hence why it's left as a marker where Zack died and is all rusty in the beginning of the movie. Idc what people think but crisis core is canon. If it wasn't Zack wouldn't have been in the remake. Yes, in the og game it's clouds sword and everyone knows that but in crisis core we find out who the sword belonged to first and how cloud came to have it. Maybe instead of looking at parfait cups CA should actual just play the game...
Lmao that's probably Calli with the dessert. They need the sword to be Cloud's cause he puts it in the church at the end of AC, so if it's not Cloud's then their bs is debunked.
Tumblr media
Oop 🤭
Cloud had that sword for like 6 weeks. He owned it for the least amount of time out of him, Zack and Angeal.
It starts off as Angeal's and we know his stepfather made it for him when he became a soldier, and he was 25 when he died (yeah Angeal is on my characters who need a nap list lol) so he owned the buster sword for let's say 10 years if he made SOLDIER at 15.
Zack owns the sword for a year after Angeal dies and then passes it on to Cloud.
FF7 takes place over 6 weeks. AC is two years later and we can see the sword is rusty af, so it's been out there a while. Cloud might have hung onto it until his fusion blade was made, so that's maybe another month or two, but yeah, he didn't even own the buster sword for as long as Zack and has no idea it originally belonged to Angeal since he didn't know him.
And that's not even the worst of their busted takes. I have most of the cult dumdums blocked so my twitter list of their bs isn't even a full list of the shit they say. They spend more time ruining the story than they do saying anything nice. They hate this game. They hate the way the idles move, they hate the cut scenes, the battle call outs, the gameplay. There's nothing they like apart from how pretty Cloud is because they want to bang him. Calling them shippers or fans is an insult to both groups, which is why I call them cult dumdums. They'll probably make a few more stupid statements and then when they finally realise Aerith's still dying and Cloud and Tifa are still a couple they'll scream that Remake isn't canon and only OG counts, even though OG is cloti too, and try to mod scenes to replace Tifa with Aerith, whine a bit more, but then hopefully slink off somewhere else so the rest of us can enjoy the whole game.

FF6 Review (Overall)
Tumblr media
I'm going to rate similar to the way I did FF7 Remake, but in only 2 parts, so there will be an overall review then a separate deep dive into the characters.
I played this game using an emulator and I'm not ashamed of it because I used the FF6 Relocalization project which I'll link
Basically nerd talk and explanation of what that means: It's basically a retranslation of the original SNES script using the GBA port as a base and mixing and matching some of the best parts so there you go. They have a way to mod the PC version to have the OG sprite work because sheesh is that thing ugly and they also have a way to resprite and resound the GBA version but this is the easiest and logical solution to get the best of all worlds. There's also "Anthology" which is the PS1 port that adds some CG custscenes which I just watched off of YouTube because it's only a few of the major scenes.
Anyways, yeah, I'm glad I emulated it especially because of the fast forward function. That first chunk would've been rough without it because you're left just waiting for one of your party's commands to be ready but it eases up as the game goes on because you get pretty busy with the combat.
I'm not a fan of turn-based RPGs which was the main reason I haven't touched a 2D FF game until now so this is my first and oh boy, what a first!
Could you just watch a playthrough or read the story then? I wouldn't recommend it. There are certain things that I feel are better experienced.
Gameplay actually wasn't all that gruesome, as I mentioned, it got better thoughout but I know for a fact that I didn't do everything it had to offer because I see other people doing it online and I just had no idea how. That's not to say it's not newcomer friendly though, I mean I beat the game, didn't I? I think it would've just gotten complicated and made me confused if I learned how to do everything in the game anyway.
I found myself liking some of the mechanics and recognizing some of the systems from games as late as today (I'm not sure if this is where they started but I wouldn't be surprised). The random encounters weren't all bad because of the emulator's speed up function but there were definitely times where it felt a little out of hand with the amount I was getting. (I'm looking at you Cave to the Sealed Gate!) So it's all pretty familiar, though there are "Relics" which are kind of like Materia but each member has 2 each where it gives you an ability, f.e. Reflect, every attack hits, extra power, auto cast protect, heal with every step, etc.
Tumblr media
One of the drawbacks of using BSNES though was that there was no toggle for a L or R shoulder button, just turbo and while that's not a big problem, that is the button to Flee a battle, so I just never fled. There is an item that lets you escape any dungeon or battle but I didn't really use it, same with the permanent item that Mog has in the cave (pretty late in the game). I'd rather there be a repel than the warp stone, but I figured that if I just fought whenever the opp arrived then I wouldn't have to grind, which is another thing I hate about RPGs! Luckily, I didn't really feel the need to grind other than for the ending.
Difficulty wasn't really a grind but make sure once you get to the floating island, that you know what you're doing because that level was annoying and I felt a very stong spike in difficulty as soon as I landed on it. Another thing is that sometimes it'd glitch and an enemy would have infinite health so I'd just sit there on fast forward, watching and watching then finally use Libra and no damage was made, might be an emulator thing, might be a game thing and although rare, it still happened.
Tumblr media
There are these sections called scenarios where the game branches off into multiple different paths and you can choose which order to follow the specific sets of characters. I really like that aspect and makes it seem less linear and interactive because it's letting you choose how to tell the story. I have a thing for games that let me interact with it (That opera scene is pretty interactive too).
For a 2D sprite game, it has quite a personality with its cutscenes. They can be very cinematic and defintely makes the characters just that more engaging with some of their mannerisms.
Ok, I get it now. The music is bomb. If anything, that would be worth doing a remake for, to get orchestral and updated versions of some of the themes. (I'd probably cry at that opera scene) But Celes' theme is probably my favorite. The PC port has pretty good remixes for the most part though.
Could this use a remake? It's a trivial matter because I think a good majority of fans want it to be remade and I understand why but at the same time I understand the other side of the argument as well. This was the last 2D FF game and that's special, in a way, the story kind of reflects that. And I think with all the personality comes a bit of caution because you might see something in these characters or scenes that may be misinterpreted or done differently in a remake, similar to how you read a book and just imagine how it's playing out. I think it lays enough ground so that you don't "have to interpret" like with most NES games (how the Super Mario Movie was born) from an outsider's point of view, it may first seem that way though. (myself included (yes, I know this was SNES era. Shut up!))
Tumblr media
What would I want out of a remake? I would want the airship to return and be able to move around freely but keep the towns pretty faithful (which makes for more linear opportunities). I could see Edgar's tools being used similar to Barrett's but we have "First Soldier" now which is a 3PS Battle Royale, why not have his tools play similar to that? Then actually give him story opportunities to pick up his tools rather than "just because you bought them" It would be a nice natural progression. I would suggest the same with Sabin and Cyan, have them learn their Blitz and Bushido moves by being taught by Duncan, you do learn one move from Duncan in the vanilla game but I'd see it as more opportunity to build your characters and make it feel rewarded. So, in those aspects, I would like to see FF6 remade or improved but as for everything else, they should keep it a lot similar to the original than FF7R did. I think that's where a lot of the criticism with FF7R came from (as well as what I mentioned in the previous paragraph) While I'd prefer a gameplay overhaul similar to what they did with R, I'd rather keep the essence. There aren't sequels or spinoffs or anything of this game so this is all it has (unless you count the ports but that's minimal).
In the CHARACTERS section, I compliment the side-quest system but I would like there to be a better indication as to "what" you're doing, rather than just looking up the next steps or be left to travel around until the goal is clear. They have the quest completion menu as well as waypoints in FF7R, I could see that being put to good use in a game like this. It would also be cool to actually "visibly" wear the gear that you equip to your character but I understand why that isn't utilized in most of the games (probably makes for better character models) especially considering most of these characters' costumes could use an update. You didn't get to use the Magitek suits nearly as much as I thought you would from the marketing and even the dang cover and logo, so a remake could improve on that as well. Another small complaint is that it doesn't tell you what the items do WHILE you're in battle, only when you're in the menu, sorting them and while some are staples like Phoenix Down, I still don't remember what the heck a 'Gold Needle' does.
Overall I'd probably rate the FF games that I've played (but maybe not finished all of) as such: FF7 > FF13 > FF6 > CRISIS CORE > FF15 > FF12 but I think 6 and 13 are kind of interchangeable because if you said one over the other, I wouldn't really argue.

Video Game Questionnaire
Tagged by @slothssassin!
Tagging any of y’all hoes (or non hoes) who wanna talk about some got dang VIDYA GAEMS
Rules: Fill in your answers below and tag some buddies!
-Games-
First game you ever played: Pokemon Red on the OG game boy. Hell yeah.
Favorite game: Don’t make me do this. D: Probably a toss up between:  Heroes of Might and Magic III, Knights of the Old Republic (1 and 2), Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines aaaand Fallout New Vegas.
Game you hated at first but now love: Darkest Dungeon! I found out my gameplay groove and now really really like it. I didn’t hate it before, just found it frustrating.
Game you used to love but now hate: I don’t really hate any game that I used to love (even World of Warcraft), but I can’t ever go back to the Mass Effect Trilogy for reasons that are probably obvious to anyone who’s played it. I got hurt too bad man. :(
actually just recalled and this is gonna be a SPICY opinion: FFXIV. I had a lot of fun with it but the RP scene drove me off really fast. WoW’s Moon Guard gets a lot of shit, but FFXIV was miles worse for general grossness. I don’t begrudge anyone who has fun with the game or RPs in it (there’s a lot of fun lore!) but I don’t have the energy for trying to sift through that amount of nightmare to find like the dozen cool people lol.
Game with the best group/companion(s): This was a hard one. There’s games that have my favorite characters ever but also have some really annoying companions, there’s games with characters I like across the board but the execution is weak. I’m just going to say VTM Bloodlines for easiness’ sake. A great cast and I actually think I like them all for specific reasons. Yes, even Ming Xiao. Maybe especially Ming Xiao, actually.
A game with your favorite ending:  Bloodlines even though I had to turn godmode on for the last combat portions teehee. I just love the twist. :D
A game with the WORST ending: See Mass Effect above. Yes it’s been like a decade, no I’m still not over it.
Best character customization?: HRMST. With mods, Fallout 4. Without - I played Black Desert Online for a whole 3 seconds and it had an insane amount of options but I found it overwhelming lol.
Also putting a cut here cuz long post.
-Hero and Companions-
Your favorite playable character:  Jedi Exile or the Courier.
The funniest playable character: Garrett from the Thief series is a smartass and I love him for it. The Courier also gets some great options, naturally.
Your favorite companion(s): Oh christ here we go. Carth Onasi, Jolee Bindo, HK-47, Atton Rand, Kreia, Bao-Dur, Kaidan Alenko, Garrus, Tali, Wrex, Legion, The Entire New Vegas Gang, Butch DeLoria, Charon, Deacon, Preston.
Companions you could live without: This is a difficult one since even companions I’m not super fond of have their place and purpose in the narrative, usually. I’m going to say G0-T0 and Hanharr from KOTOR 2 as they kept that game from the Best Companions title lol. I don’t play dark side and both of them just felt a little underdeveloped for me.
oh and skadge from SWTOR, fuck skadge
-Relationships-
Favorite game friendship(s): Shepard + everyone, Morrigan and the Female Warden,  Josie + Inquisitor, The Courier + everyone, Sole Survivor + everyone, Female Revan + Bastila, Exile + the new Jedi gang.
Favorite companion banter: This might make me a basic bitch but Deacon. The interplay between goofiness and sadness is just perfect.
A relationship you loved but went bad: Revan and Carth. It went bad because Revan fucked off to the Unknown Regions and left him behind, then we find out why in SWTOR (and they canonize Revan as a dude BOOOO) and it’s dumb lol.
A relationship you weren’t sure of but loved: Kaidan and Shepard when Mass Effect 2 rolled along. Being railroaded into working with Cerberus had me VERY annoyed at the time and Kaidan’s 100% right to also be mad about it so I was like oh god yeah I’d break up too. Mass Effect 2 has the best companions + side story but the worst main quest fight me. (Actually don’t pls)
A character you wish you COULD romance: Let’s list em off, shall we: D E A C O N, Nick Valentine, Glory, Nathaniel Howe, Bao-Dur, Nines Rodriguez, LaCroix, Beckett. Let me do it you cowards.
A minor character you wish could be a companion: Harding in Inquisition, Glory (actually most of the Railroad would be nice), Scout Haylen, Fahrenheit.
-Fun-
Shoutout to a random NPC: All the Jawas in KOTOR I love them. Oh and Officer Chunk in Bloodlines, that stupid, stupid man.
A game you love watching playthroughs for and want to play: I don’t actually seek out more than one let’s play of a game. :V I’d say the old Call of Cthulhu game though - it’s really neat but buggy as all hell and the one time I tried starting it up it ended up breaking real big time. It’s fun to watch people luckier (or more tech competent) than I am play it and I wish I could do the same.
Love watching playthroughs but won’t ever play: My boyfriend and I sometimes do this thing where he’ll stream a game he’s playing and I’ll sit in voice chat with him while I work with the stream in the other screen, so probably the games he’s done there. Most recent ones have been: Metal Gear Solid, FF7 and FF9.
Online gaming or solo?: I looove solo games but I love online more. Being in an LDR, playing games together online is really good. I enjoy having fun with friends, and I also enjoy the competitive aspect that comes along with online games. It really pushes me to be better at things and improve. Usually I’m in some kind of MMO - it’s looking to be WoW for the forseeable future right now. Sometimes I’ll get dragged into games like Planetside or Destiny and have a fun time for a month or two as well. :) I had a ton of fun with Sea of Thieves a few months ago too! Living our Captain Jack fantasy.
Why do you play video games?:  More than ever recently - creative inspiration. I like poking into weird games or games with a really strong art direction or good writing. (EYE Divine Cybermancy, Pathologic, Sunless Seas/Skies, Cultist Simulator, Dishonored, Darkwood, and Darkest Dungeon being a few of them). I also just really like a good story and good characters. Being able to immerse myself in another world is great. I also play them for that little cookie of accomplishment - beating a hard boss (LOOKING AT YOU NAMELESS KING) or figuring out a puzzle (Cultist Simulator is chock full of those) or surviving spookies (Darkwood big time). Video games are great and they hold my attention better than TV or movies as I actually have to engage with them lol.

That seems like a great approach to Hades!! I think it wld b good to bear in mind if I give it another try :)) & I also haven’t played GOT but my brother says it’s a masterpiece so idk. I figured u felt that way about the last of us II (I think most ppl did lmaoo). I j hope it hasn’t impacted too many ppl’s image of the 1st game & agree about animal crossing!! It sucks that there’s this idea that the game of the year has qualify as “serious” -_- that being said, i HIGHLY doubt it’ll win. I’m p neutral 2 doom eternal as I haven’t played or read anything about it. It’s probably between ff7r, GOT & Hades :D
((Also: If u ever decide 2 go back to ff7, I can send u some vids about modding it (only if ur playing on PC tho :( but the steam vers is v cheap) so it looks A LOT less ugly lmaooo. I also had my 1st experience w it in 2020 & nvr played ps1 games so I had the same issues w the visuals u did & the mods rlly improve it enormously - the cutscenes r still a lil goofy tho haha. Not much u can do about the gameplay tho unfortunately.))
I really think would be surprised if FF7R wins tbh. I’m 80% sure it’s gonna be Ghost of Tsushima (and from everything I’ve heard, it deserves it) with a like 19% chance it’s Hades as a dark horse. FF7R was controversial in its own ways, with people complaining about how it changed the original plot or supposedly cut some content. That said, ACNH, FF7R, GOT, OR Hades winning would be fne with me. Just not Last of Us, lol.
And I’m good on the FF7 OG front, I hav eit on the switch and I realized I just need to put all the cheats on and cheese my way through it for hte plot
