anyway, been playing my sick freak cleric durge lately :) his name is jozsef lil honorable mention to @uldren-sov's OC in here named Naressa. She's been modded into his playthrough and it's been a LOT!!! of fun throwing ideas around and intertwining the main story with our own headcanons. Surprisingly, Shadowheart's story with memory loss + the durge's amnesia has been a great vibe for these two.

you have GOT to post guardian pics I'm begging you. feed us (me?) information about your characters. I must know. it is imperative
TYSM FOR ENABLING ME ANON BC THEY ARE MY BLORBOS AND IM VIBRATING ABOUT THEM. buckle the fuck up because this is gonna be a long fucking post
Okay first up is Aeris Sharphawk- aro/ace, he/him. he's my main character, my hunter, and the Young Wolf of my timeline.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s half-Awoken, half-Human (I’ll get to that in a moment, he’s actually an older oc of mine that I ported over from Bloodborne whose bastard nature needed a D2 equivalent), and the older half-brother to my solar titan, Marcelline Attenbough- one of the few little remnants from their past life that they were able to discover in a diary on Marcie’s corpse when they were rezzed together (which occurred because their ghosts are twins). He’s autistic, lawful neutral, and vastly prefers using Darkness over Light because of sensory issues; his ghost (Hoarfrost, previously Mercury) mods his helmets to drastically reduce noise, but he can’t help how Arc tingles, Solar burns, and Void numbs. Tends to spend most of his battles either hyperfocused or dissociated to deal with it. As for the lawful neutral title, that’s because he doesn’t fight for the Vanguard because of a loyalty to humanity, but exclusively for the survival of the Last City and everyone in it. This extended to House Light and the Cabal under Caital instantaneously, and would do so to Eramis if she so chose, because he really just doesn’t take most things personally. He's sometimes derogatorily called 'the Vanguard's Hound' because of this.
He’s skilled with a bow, and is cursed with a resting haunted stare that can rival even the fiercest bird of prey- hence his title, given to him because his last name wasn’t present in the little diary that Marcie had when they were rezzed. Personality wise, he’s quiet, stoic, extremely efficient at what he does, fiercely protective of those he loves, and deeply curious about the unknown- though if you don’t know him, you’d never be able to guess it, because he struggles deeply with facial expressions and tone, giving him the appearance that he’s ruthlessly cold and unfeeling (pretty much the Guardian we see in game). Because of this, he tends to do much better with Eliksni than most of humanity- bar the Awoken, though Mara makes him deeply uncomfortable- and is thus far more comfortable with them. He’s the moon to Marcie’s sun, and helps keep her in check, for despite her cheery personality, she has a very strong sense of justice and a penchant for impulsive, temperamental behavior when she thinks that justice has been wronged. This goes both ways, however, as Aeris is the very definition of ‘curiosity killed the cat’; he voluntarily gets bit by venomous snakes at venom labs to see how immunity/allergies develops over time, and has a fascination with the Vex that got him a ‘needs watching’ report after he nearly jumped into a pool of radiolaria to see what would happen. The older-brother affection isn’t related to just Marcie, though; he’s unofficially adopted Eido as his younger sister (or kid? Because uhhh that curiosity of his has extended to fucking Misraaks once or twice), and is a mentor figure of sorts to Crow, though he’s unaware that Crow idolizes him; he only hunted Uldren down to keep Marcie out of trouble, as he didn’t like Cayde and was neutral on Uldren, so seeing Crow for the first time didn’t bother him at all. Tutored on occasion by Osiris, and thus has a very deep respect for him.
People other than Marcie that he likes:  Zavala, Ikora, Osiris, Eido, Misraaks, Eris, and Variks, Petrichor-12 (oc), Viper-4 (oc, lightless guardian), Crow
People he dislikes: Cayde, the Spider, Clovis Bray, Savathun, Mara Sov, Petra Venj (can’t read her very well), anyone who is loud or insistent or confusing
Primary class (Dark): Stasis
Primary class (Light): Arcstrider
Motifs: Dark, cool blue/silver, viper and hawk symbolism
Likes: Learning about things, working with the Eliksni, being good at being a hunter, bows/glaives/swords, playing with Strand, Gambit (surprisingly)
Dislikes: Crucible, loud noises, fusion rifles, snipers because of the kick (despite being very good with them), shotguns, fans and most other guardians
Fun fact: When Hoarfrost and Solaris found them, it was in a frigid part of old Russia, with Aeris holding Marcie close to his chest with his back to the door- they had frozen to death while trying to keep each other warm, and were under a thick layer of permafrost. When they were risen, they found out their names, their relationship to each other, and the fact that their father was a cheating bastard who produced Aeris after screwing an Awoken woman for the novelty of it because Marcie had a little diary in her front pocket, which had been somewhat preserved by the cold. Both their ghosts theorize that the reason why Aeris is so drawn to Stasis and Marcie to Solar is because of how they died, though neither guardian will say anything about it. He can also speak near-fluent Eliksni.
.
Then there’s Marcie, younger half-sister to Aeris and the sun to his moon; she/her, Solar Titan, lesbian, lawful good. Where he is quiet and introverted, she is loud and bombastic, and where he likes to dart in and strike down his enemies from afar, she likes to punch. I just recently made her in Destiny because the character creation doesn't really match how I see her, hence why she's got Arc on here
Tumblr media
(closer to her actual face minus the blue eyes; this is a very old bloodborne pic)
Tumblr media
Unlike her half-brother, Marcie is a full human, and- according to the diary she rezzed with- was objectively her father's favorite, though the feeling was not mutual, and their relationship was strained by her taking so kindly to the bastard son he tried to send away. Compared to Aeris, she's bright, bubbly, and outgoing, but has a fierce temper, and is quick to snap if something has pushed her too far-think a jack russel's terrier of a human being. Her ghost's name is Solaris (previously Quicksilver), and she prefers the Light and Solar by far. Her preferred method of combat is to hit first, ask questions later, which can be incredibly effective or incredibly dangerous depending on who's on the opposite end of her wrath. Her and Aeris share many quests together, with me typically attributing all the seasons that I didn’t play to Marcie, given that I didn’t make a Destiny character for her for the longest time.
She was best friends with Cayde, and was so devastated by his death that Aeris had to go instead, as she would have killed anything and everything in vengeance without a second thought. She did, however, kill Riven- something that Aeris himself was somewhat reluctant to do,given his fascination with the Ahamkara. She's stubborn as a mule, surprisingly strong despite her small stature (well, small-ish), and is an absolute massive lesbian, with her type specifically being 'big strong ladies who can kill me'- which was primarily why she wasn't allowed to fight Eramis, or other big hotties, as she has a pretty hardcore crush on her. (The second reason was that she would have stood and bickered with Eramis about the ethics of what she was doing until either one or the other yielded). Instead, she was assigned to work with Misraaks to evacuate House Light refugees, which ended up being a fortuitous partnership with the coming of the Endless Night. Now, her primary work for the Vanguard consists of aiding Eliksni refugees, along with general alien-human politics and tackling xenophobia, as well as working on being an apprentice Splicer. She is very, VERY passionate about equal rights and will drag you to the Crucible if you fight her- and good fucking luck winning against her, because she fucking loves the Crucible and will beat your ass everytime. She’s somewhat of a local celebrity in that reguard
Her deep fondness for her brother comes primarily from the fact that he is one of the few people to take her seriously without either asking her to calm down or come off as patronizing- he's also a well of stability to her excitable moods, the voice of reason to her hyperempathy. While he keeps her from biting off more than she can chew, she acts as his translator + guide, yanking him back onto the path of sanity if he starts to wander into the Deep, and helping him with dysfunction things that Hoarfrost can’t do. She also enjoys working through the data he collects, even if she has no desire to go searching for it herself, so they make a good pair- even if, like most siblings, they will argue over every little thing and sometimes drive each other up the walls with their stubbornness.
I've already mentioned that she got along with Cayde, but her other friends at the tower are Shaxx, Drifter, Saint-14, and Ada-1. Misraaks is her mentor, as well as one of the few people who can talk her down from stupid shit, with uh…questionable results. And while she couldn't stand the sight of Crow when Aeris dragged him back, she managed to befriend him reguardless, mostly because he was so different from the Uldren she remembered that she couldn’t help but accept him for who he was. She often went out drinking with him and Amanda, and was devastated when she died.
People she likes: Cayde, Shaxx, Drifter, Saint-14, Ada-1, Misraaks, Crow, Amanda (rip), Caiatl
People she dislikes: Uldren Sov, The Osmium Siblings, The Spider, Lakshmi-2, anyone against the Eliksni or people who are rude to Aeris, Calus
Likes: Crucible, Gambit, fucking around with weapons in new and creative ways, going out to drink with friends, playfully flirting, helping with construction work around the Eliksni District, playing around with the Light, moths and other fuzzy creatures
Primary Class (Light): Solar
Primary Class (Dark): Strand
Dislikes: Fighting Eliksni, any exploding enemies that she can’t punch, bows because Aeris will always be better than her at using them, the fact that Aeris fucked Misraaks at one point for science, being alone, her inability to score a girl who isn’t a war criminal
Motif: crimson and gold, bears or lion with eagle wings
Fun fact: Her grasp on Eliksni is actually more fluent than Aeris, and she spends a good deal of her time in the Tower socializing with people while he’s off doing…whatever.
.
Okay, now onto Petrichor-12, who decided to nope out of being a Guardian so I deleted their slot to make Marcie before I really did anything to dazzle them up
Tumblr media
Petrichor-12 is a now-retired guardian that actually came from a dream I had before I even played Destiny. They/them or he/him, neutral good, Void titan, ghost is seldom-speaking and called Whisper. Neutral good. I attribute them with D1 content, so they’re the guardian that killed Crota and Oryx, though Marcie and Aeris were also there to help.
Petrichor is an older, somewhat quiet, melancholy do-gooder that's been haunted by guilt ever since they found out the memories of who they were via the Deep Stone Crypt- a bodyguard for Clovis Bray that was turned to a path of anger, abuse, and violence after agreeing to be tested on for power, and got corrupted by the Darkness. This, paired with being rezzed in the Dark Ages, means that they have a lot of trauma surrounding violence, power, and the dilemma of being made to kill when all you want to do is save people. As such, Eramis's predicament troubles them greatly, and while it was them who gunned her down in conjunction with Aeris, they often found themselves returning to her frozen body on Europa to talk to her (presumed corpse) about Darkness corruption in a sort of venting monologue-advice system, which worked both as a way of fending off their troubles as well as keep an eye on her state- though now that she’s defrosted they’ve vowed never come near her again out of embarrassment.
While retired, they are a stalwart defender of anyone who needs it and a keeper of peace, driven partially by a genuine desire to do good and a need to prove themselves not the person that they used to be. No longer able to mingle with other guardians or humanity at large due to PTSD from what they learned, they live in the Botza district as an ambassador between the Eliksni and humanity, they like to knit + quilt in their free time, teaching whichever hatchlings will listen and getting tutored on weaving by old Wolves in return. They're also 6'3", so…lorge. Zavala and Misraaks are the two people they talk to the most outside of the Eliksni refugees, and they drop by to say hi to Eva and knit with her whenever they have the chance. The war with the Witness is threatning to bring them out of retirement, something that they are deeply unhappy with.
People he likes: Namrask, Misraaks, Saladin, Zavala, Ikora, Osiris (recently), Marcie and Aeris, Saint-14, Eris (complicated)
People they dislike: Themselves, Osiris (formerly), Eramis (reminds them of themselves), Ghaul, Oryx, Xivu Arath, Clovis Bray, anyone who goads them to fight, Elsie and Ana Bray by association, Rasputin
Motif: gold and sapphire blue, used to have a gryphon motif but stopped wearing it because they don’t want to be recognized as the Kingkiller
Likes: Knitting, sewing, weaving, gardening, really anything restorative they can do with their free hands that forces their mind not to wander
Class (Light): Void, sometimes Arc
Class (Dark): no.
Dislikes: War, fighting, being a guardian, everything that has to do with what they used to be, anything Braytech sciences, the cumulative trauma from the Dark Ages and seeing recordings of who they used to be in the Deep Stone Crypt, their own fear of themselves
Fun fact: Petrichor-12 can speak Eliksni fluently, having modulated their voice and hearing to be able to incorporate the subsonic clicks and chirps in their speech, and is now working on learning Ulurant despite not at all liking the Cabal empire
.
Ash: Another dream character of mine, and my newest Guardian (so she’s somewhat of a wip). She/her, solar + void warlock, chaotic neutral to lawful evil depending on her mood. Pansexual but bitchless. Rezzed in the tail end of the Dark Ages, just long enough for her to see how horrible everything was but not long enough to see the true extent of it. Scholar of the Light, and most recently a scholar of the Dark as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ash is a warlock with an awful temper, a moral code that changes on a whim, and a ravenous appetite for knowledge that comes at the cost of everyone else, including herself. Her ghost (an anxious and caring little lass) is called Nutmeg, and is pretty much the only indicator that she has a soft spot. Ash dedicated herself to learning how to get closer to the Light, but unlike the more conventional meditations that people usually do to, she was inspired by ancient Greek priestesses and decided for a more unconventional route- by doing hard drugs. By getting either extremely drunk or very high, she claims that she overcomes the need for meditation (or, rather, bypasses it entirely because she’s too impatient for it) and gains a deeper connection with her powers, as she’s connecting with it instinctually rather than choosing to seek it out. Nutmeg and many others are not as convinced about this method, but they also can’t deny that it doesn’t have its perks, as Ash does have a very powerful connection to her light- mainly through exploding things, or setting everything around her on fire. It’s how she used to survive the Warlords she’d steal from in the Dark Ages, and she’s known specifically for her ability to mimic a nova bomb, but with solar power, which is strong particularly for how unexpected it is.
However, being constantly hungover and harbouring no friends doesn’t exactly have its benefits, and as a result Ash is almost always grumpy, abrasive, quick to anger, quick to turn to cruel jibes and mocking when being defensive (which is often), and is generally awful to be around. She has no friends other than Nutmeg (whose bond has become strained as of late, since Ash is now turning to substance abuse for coping with the impending threat of the Witness rather than simply using it for her studies), her apartment is an uncleaned shithole she only uses for crashing in when she’s particularly out of it, and she's constantly in a state of passive-aggressive warfare with Osiris, as she and him used to occasionally cross paths and share research; they might have had a student-teacher dynamic if they didn’t grate so abrasively, and if Ash wasn’t so much of a lone wolf. He’s tried to whip her into shape a couple of times, but to no avail- they just devolved into shouting matches. Pretty much the only people she listens to are the Drifter and Nutmeg, but whether or not she’ll actually take their advice is a toss-up.
Despite this, she will overall always choose to do what's right and will begrudgingly trudge along with people in random strikes to ensure that important missions get done, as she fears failure more than she does judgment. And yet, to an extent she also fears judgment, for part of the reason why she’s so cruel is to keep people at arm’s length, so as to prevent them from learning her weaknesses- not even her constant complaining about being bitchless will cover up that the core reason why she makes no effort to clean herself up and be nicer is because she fears vulnerability. She’s also brilliant with the Light and cunningly adept with the Dark, which is why the Vanguard continues to ask for her help and expertise.
People she likes: the Drifter, Hawthorne, Nutmeg, Eido, Toland, Shaxx to most everybody’s surprise
People she dislikes: Pretty much the whole Vanguard and 90% of other guardians, Saladin, the Iron Lords, Osiris, Misraaks,
Primary class (Dark): Stasis, wants to learn Strand but has a hard time letting go
Primary class (Light): Solar, Void
Likes: Learning nuances of the Light that others don’t go into detail to, connecting with the Light, growing more powerful and shaping it into new, experimental Supers that would make Zavala have a heart attack if he saw them in action, taking leadership in Strikes and prodding around New Lights to teach them about what it is to be a Guardian (but gently), killing assholes to put them in their place, spooking people
Dislikes: Being told what to do, being reminded that she’s a mess, being reminded that she’s afraid and that her behavior is starting to turn self-detrimental, being looked down on by other Guardians, the restrictive nature of Vanguard protocol that keeps her from playing around with her experimental supers, guardians who have no respect or care about mortal lives, getting kicked from bars for fighting said guardians with no respect or care for mortal lives, being reminded that she has a soft side and cares so much for other people that it scares her
Colours/theme: black, flame-gold, and green
Fun fact: Likes the Hive aesthetic, and knows their tongue just for the hell of it. Has quite a bit of fun tormenting and taunting Hive Lightbearers, loves digging around the Osmium Siblings. Despite this, she’s not passionate about the Hive, and doesn’t care one bit if they’re wiped out or not. She also pretty much never takes off the Stag helm, as dropping a rift on death has saved her ass more than once, and tends to sleep in her robes. It’s a miracle that she doesn’t stink something awful, but smells perpetually like smoke instead.
.
and last but not least: Viper-4, an ex-guardian who I have almost nothing on because he tends to be a side character: he/him, trans exo, primarily black chassis with red markings, not yet settled on alignment. A friend of Aeris, he's an ex-Hunter who is now the primary caretaker for a variety of venomous snakes whose species have survived the Collapse. He collects their venom to try to recreate old Golden-Age medicines and antivenom- which he does with Aeris's help- and had his forearms modded with soft silicone so that the snakes don't hurt him if they bite him. Generally a friendly and chill guy, but has a melancholy air as most Ghostless do, and wants to learn Strand so that he has some modicum of control over the elements again, as his lack of feeling the Light was the hardest part about his Ghost's death. Much like Brya and Sagira, his ghost sacrificed her to save him, but he blames himself for her death and pretty much entirely refuses to talk about it. Used to be quite adept with Void. I note that he's trans here because it carried over into his exo body, as he was raised with synthetic top surgery scars that were then worked into beautiful engravings of flowers, swords, and snakes by Viper-1

Thoughts on the Lightfall expansion announcement:
Overall, Bungie has successfully hooked me back in, just as I was burning out. I basically didn’t touch this last season at all, not sure why, just lost interest extremely quickly. Felt kind of filler-y to me, if you can call it that. But this upcoming expansion looks meatier. Obviously not Forsaken-levels of meat, since they’ve pretty thoroughly killed that dream, but meatier nevertheless.
Grappling hooks sound neat, but I worry about two things:
1: The fact that you can supposedly grapple anywhere to me sounds like the entirety of Destiny content prior to this is just going to be unbelievably fucked. You can’t add such a substantial movement ability like that and not have it fundamentally destroy anything made prior to it’s inclusion. Any activity that requires even a tiny bit of platforming, which are most activities, are going to be decimated by this new ability.
2: I worry about just how reliant on them we will become. They’ve already said that it was originally going to be a Hunter-only ability, but felt that they should open it up to Titans and Warlocks after playing with it for a bit. My biggest concern is if it’s going to be a Strand subclass-only ability, as it appears to be that, at least visually. If it becomes such a big part of Destiny’s core movement ability skillset, then not playing with the Strand subclass will immediately become a problem not only to all of the other subclasses, but to anyone who doesn’t have the Lightfall expansion required to actually use Strand.
Loadouts sound great, and I love that they’re improving the modding system to be more like the transmog system, I think that’s a much needed improvement. Commencements sound...iffy. I like them in theory but I’m not entirely sure they’ll work as intended. The in-game LFG system sounds incredible and is very much needed for Destiny. They didn’t really go into details on that much though. I’m curious what the limitations, if any, will be. Can I LFG for a Dungeon? Raid? We already have LFG for things like Crucible, Gambit, and Strikes, so I’d assume this was for Dungeons and Raids, but I’m actually kind of concerned this might instead be for World Activities and/or Campaign missions.
Obviously, I love that they announced that they’re no longer sunsetting expansions. Kinda shitty that they made this call after sunsetting their biggest expansion, but whatever. They mentioned that it’s because Shadowkeep is effectively where this Light vs. Darkness Saga began, and they want New Lights to be able to experience the story start-to-finish. Again, kinda shitty to do this after sunsetting Forsaken, which arguably was the beginning of the Savathuun Saga that just ended in the Witch Queen expansion.
That being said, it got me thinking ahead a bit. Assuming Bungie actually has a plan, and this wasn’t just two big coincidences, if Forsaken was the beginning of the Savathuun Saga, which ended in Witch Queen, and Shadowkeep is the beginning of the Darkness Saga, which is presumably ending in Lightfall, it makes me curious if Beyond Light gives any insight as to what might happen in The Final Shape expansion.
Each expansion seems to have a main plot and a subplot running concurrently under it. In Forsaken, you had the main plot of Uldren Sov going schizo and tearing shit up, and the subplot was effectively the beginning of the Savathuun Saga. In Shadowkeep, you had the main plot of the hive taking over the Moon, and the subplot was effectively the beginning of the Darkness Saga. In Beyond Light, you had the main plot of Eramis using the Darkness to take over Europa, and the subplot was about Clovus Bray, the Exos, and the Vex.
If we follow the logic, it would seem to indicate that the Final Shape expansion will largely have something to do with Clovus Bray and possibly the Exos (though I also think the Exos bit is unlikely since obviously the DSC was destroyed in the raid and that was sort of their tie-in), but most importantly the Vex. We know he used Vex technology to create the Exos, one of which is sort of is now. Maybe he finishes his large Exo body. At some point I expect Rasputin to take over an Exo body at some point. Maybe this will be an instance of a Creator vs. Creation story, where we have to help Rasputin fight Clovus Bray who’s been corrupted by the Vex. I don’t know.
My only qualm about this is that I’m not actually certain that the Darkness Saga ends in Lightfall. Given that the big bad seems to be Calus and not the Witness, it seems to indicate he’ll be the big bad of The Final Shape. My theory sort of hinges on the thought that he might end up being the raid boss of Lightfall. OR, and this would be preferable, I’d love it if they did sort of a fake-out with Calus, and have us believing him to be the final boss of the campaign, only for the Witness to get sick of him losing and cast him aside to fight us personally, and then have Calus be the raid boss as us sort of ‘cleaning house’ at that point. I think it just works better thematically since we’ve fought Calus’ before in the Leviathan raid, but he turned out to be a robot double, so it would seem fitting to kill the real Calus in a raid. I’d also want Caitle to be involved somehow, of course.
All in all, Bungie’s hooked me back in. Even though I said I wasn’t going to pre-order, I just might. I think what I won’t do this time is get the version that includes the seasons passes. They often end up a complete waste for me, and I think a better solution would be to just do the normal free version of the pass, and then buy it later if I feel a need to. We’ll see.

Merry Crisis
"Guardian?" Glint asked, "This is rather unprompted, what's the reason for-"
"I come bearing a gift!" Faire exclaimed, in her usual loud manner. "Multiple gifts, in fact. Not all for you, unfortunately. Many people to see, I am a busy woman." Behind her, Honey popped up.
"I can confirm this." He said. "We're visiting you two first!"
"Us?" Crow asked. She handed him a plain paper bag with hand drawn festive decor and a single smiley face, holding back an odd expression when he hid it without hesitation.
"Farthest away." She said, as if that explained everything. In her mind, it did.
"I see... thank yo-"
"Don't thank me yet!" She interrupted him, handing him a package wrapped carefully. It was obviously not her handiwork. "Don't tell your dad-" she whispered, laughing when he swatted at her.
"He's not my dad-"
"But honey, you NEED those. I would suggest using em ASAP." She whispered, watching him scowl; clearly getting the jab she sent at him. "Anyways!" She said loudly, so everyone can hear her. "Happy Dawning!"
"Happy Dawning, Faire." They both parroted back, Glint clearly being the happiest of the two. For now.
"I'm off to give your dad his gift, and then... Well, you get it." She explained, walking away. When she handed The Spider his own gift the Eliksni laughed hearing Crow's irritated shout of "STOP CALLING HIM THAT."
"Pestering my little bird again, little fae?" The Spider chortled.
"Of course," she grinned at him before transmatting back into orbit. "It's a holiday tradition amongst us Guardians."
Back in orbit, and on her way to the Tower, Honey informed her Glint sent her a message.
Hearing the unamused "Giving him soap wasn't very nice, Guardian." coming from the Ghost sent her into a fit of hysteric cackles. Once they were paired she made it worse with her response.
"I gave him shampoo, too."

D2 Season of the Lost thoughts
Unlike last season where I wrote up my thoughts over the course of a few hours after the end of the seasonal storyline, I started  keeping a list during the first week so I could edit and update it. story related stuff is below the cut
Great to finally see a season of fusion rifles. TELESTO IS BESTO. Also pog for me I got Mythoclast early in the season.
Really do enjoy the Astral Alignment and Shattered Realms (i called it Shadow Realm all season) activities. Once the bugs were fixed, I think they were the best playlist activities of s13-15 especially with difficulty modifiers.  Astral Alignment has a bit more variety than battlegrounds, and much better enemy density than Overrides. Shadow realms were balanced nicely between solo exploration with secrets and speedy runs to loot chase with friends.
Sure stasis mods are fun, but I’m not bothering with more than a class item just because there’s not a lot of stasis mods I see myself using. I’m glad Bungie is finally reducing the price for changing armor affinity next season, it’s necessary if they keep wanting people to make builds and not stick with the same stuff.
Yeah combo anti-cheat and solo queue for Trials has done wonders for the mode. However, to try to avoid burnout once I finished challenges I didn’t touch pvp except on bonus weeks because matchmaking seemed worse than normal.  I’m so glad gambit is getting overhauled next season, I quit before i got to rank 16 ornament due to frustration with how poorly designed current gambit is with stomp or be stomped.
It’s great having a long season in Destiny, least year I did a bunch of stuff before it was Vaulted. This year I did the same, and even better was taking a break from the game. It’s great to be at high power level to work on endgame challenge stuff while not having to do playlist grinding and bounty farming  to chase power increases.
Master VoG is hard enough without being 10+ under power, I hope Bungie keeps working at ways for there to be challenge without having to powerlevel grind for a few weeks first.
30th anniversary stuff was a lot of fun both mechanically and with the somewhat silly themes, exploring the dungeon and falling to the traps made for a memorable first run.
Opening mission is great. I get Bungie has to trade off in pacing and payoff between ending a season with ambiguity of “Is it the real Osiris” last season and having people talk about that for two weeks, vs opening this season with Saints dialogue where it’s made clear something is wrong with Osiris before the reveal.
Exotic quest: I liked running around Dreaming City for the items. Got to see parts of Dreaming City I hadn’t really had a reason to go to since I completed Cursebreaker title.
It’s really been the best season in terms of the variety and number things to do for returning/new players, but also the worst in terms of how much information is thrown at the player that’s confusing without an external guide/discord.
This season and last I’ve definitely noticed a difference in discussion between what people who are fandom social media spaces vs people who just play the game. I don’t blame the later for not wanting to search through 50+ non current season lore books and tons of assorted armor pieces for important story info. Bungie does a baaaaad job at making web only lore like Immolant findable on Bungienet if you don’t already know what you’re looking for, on the homepage there’s a link to comics but not lore.
Wish we could replay the opening mission on our other characters like in season of the Hunt, I had this problem last season as well.
A lot of the seasonal story is about Mara & Crow/Uldren relationship as siblings and co-working monarchs. I thought the more character focused season worked really well for a slower longer season and I’d enjoy seeing something like it again. Having 8-10 weeks of weekly story, while we go get a mcguffin thing in the season activities could really adapt well for any 2-4 characters who have some sort of personality or historical conflict.  (hint hint: Ana Bray, Rasputin, and Saladin)
It’s a shame that Mara is a lightning rod for fandom wank and personal attacks from both people who love and hate her. I’ve re-written my thoughts on her like 3 times, then again in December when the IGN article about the harassment within the Bungie writing team was released. Mara was named as one of the characters who the writing team fought over in regards to harmful stereotypes, and to me she reads like someone written by different people in Forsaken vs now.
I think a future season with Mara interacting with other characters who aren’t Crow, ie Eris would be something I’d enjoy seeing and would be a nice change of pace.
I thought the Petra & Mara interactions were pretty great, been waiting for them to interact since the voicemail in season of the Hunt. Have there already been conversations about Mara’s outfit and it’s similarities with Petra’s Dreaming City “regent” fashion, back when it debuted in “Visit the Queen” weekly quests in forsaken? It’s sure a lot more regal than the leather vest and shoulder pad from D1. Though it really does go to my point that with Mara it really seems to be the trope: characterization marches on
It wasn’t much but I enjoy all the stuff about the horror Petra went through trapped in a time loop leading people repeatedly to their death, which I think is great angst/horror. (I really like timeloop stories)
I really enjoyed the Halloween event, It’s been great hearing Glint have voice lines, there aren’t that many ghosts still alive who speak or have big personalities, especially since our Ghost hasn’t spoken for a few seasons. Also I just love Glints upbeat and supportive nature.
Talking to Savathun each week was fun, and helped set her apart as an affably evil antagonist. I’ve been making jokes that I related to toland now. Something Bungie talked about in their interview as wanting to build that personal connection, it was well done.
Favorite seasonal week story was Petra pulling a knife on Crow and him just laughing. Ignoring that if felt awkward to just stand there, absolutely great tension in the scene and hits a lot of tropes I like. Curious for anyone else if Journey was the soundtrack playing at that moment?
D2′s always walked a thin line with silent blank slate protagonist vs personality from set choices. Last season several beats in the story felt jarring of “why do I stand here watching and not reacting” and this season those moments felt even worse. Seems to be pretty universal feeling that week 6, we should have done anything other that just standing there during the revelation.
Saint’s joke of “perhaps this makes us even” in reference to his and Osiris facing great odds to save each other was really cute. Glad there's a happy ending to rescuing Osiris
It’s frustrating that In a 6 month season Bungie released the final story quest on the last week, especially for those with IRL commitments such as travleing for work with no access to play. For all Bungie’s claims of wanting to reduce FOMO, it’s a fuck up here because since there was no date announced on the roadmap people made the assumption based on past seasons that there would be 2/3 weeks for the last quest, and the bugs that made the event unplayable for some made the situation worse. There has to be some middle ground between time gating for live events vs communicating with your players.
Thanks a few people for getting me so invested in Savathun and the hive. I really hope next season we all get any Eris content we’ve been hoping for.

My Season of the Lost Experience [Part 1 // Contains Spoilers]
Oh Destiny 2, I just can't seem to stay away for too long. About 3 weeks before Season of the Lost Launched, I returned from a hiatus I started towards the end of the Season of the Hunt while I was sweating my brains out in Apex Legends. Now that I have no more brains I have returned to Destiny 2 to catch up and get ready for Witch Queen in February.
For whatever reason, I was not overly enthused with Beyond Light as an expansion. In fact I would say as a single offering of content it was very underwhelming and I think it got swept away by the seasonal content very quickly. The Lore was amazing but otherwise I think it says a lot that I returned to the game during the end of Season of the Splicer at power level 1245.
That being said, I really enjoyed the Season of the Splicer content and quickly binged all of it in those 3 weeks. I actually still grind the corrupted missions and seasonal activities for pulse rifle drops because those are very good this season in pve. Officially starting the season at exactly 1300 power felt really good, and I didn't mind the power grind at all while I had a rather hectic beginning of the season with some discord friends.
The Seasonal content that we got this time around in the form of Astral Alignment and the Shattered Realm which provide some of the most fun repeatable content I've seen from bungie in quite some time. I really love the Sundial-esque style as it helps each run feel just different enough that I don't hate myself by the time I get to the bosses which are awesome for how low tier content they cap off.
Shattered Realm on the other hand is a really interesting little activity in the ascendant plane that has players basically solving mysteries and using buffs provided by the seasonal vendor upgrades to explore the Ley Lines of said ascendant plane. I have absolutely loved the final boss encounters in this activity as we guide Mara Sov's tech witches back to her throne world where we have Savathün, again providing some really fun mechanics for 1-3 players.
Speaking of bosses, it's actually really fun to make them not exist this season with some interested seasonal weapon mods and a lot of buffs that went live with the season making for a large pool of Meta builds right now. The one I play with myself is focusing on the Particle Deconstruction Artifact mod which turns all fusion and linear fusion rifles into boss melting toys. Alongside my Outbreak Perfected, No Time to Explain, or Monte Carlo and my favorite Falling Guillotine, I have been having a blast playing with fusion rifles that allow me to really abuse my favorite exotic armor piece; Verity's Brow.
Gameplay aside, the story has been really fun this season playing off of the 2 most royal characters in the game, Savathün and Mara Sov. Savathün corrupted Mara's brother once before and it feels like she's going to try and corrupt Crow in some way now. Obviously the massive reveal at the start of the Season that Savathün has been osiris this whole time was rewarding for some observant players but honestly my favorite part has been watching the queens both lose Crow.
Crow finally knows that he was Uldren in his past life and has thus fled to work on other assignments for Ikora, but his back and forth experience with Savathün and Mara was really interesting especially with how badly it paints Mara not just as Uldren's sister but also his queen. This was the last big event before the ritual event that will conclude this season's story which will presumably launch just before or just after the 30th year Bungie Anniversary event as we lead up to Witch Queen.
Alternatively I've actually been diving back into Beyond Light Lore instead of the most juicy Lost content by completing Deep Stone Crypt for the very first time with some community members from the Work to Game discord which I help coordinate. It took us 2 attempts across 2 Wednesday nights to complete with a mostly new group including Brian from Work to Game got his first clear with us and that's been a blast to do and find Lore collectibles and such along the way. I Will probably talk about that first successful DSC run later to compare with whatever raid I do next.
Here we are at the end of yet another year of Destiny, with yet another great season as the game continues steadily upwards in player count. Right now I think my favorite thing to do in game is alternate farming Lost and Splicer content, getting a lot of the best rewards this year has had on offer while I gear up for Witch Queen.
Between fun content and a huge wave of buffs and some great new seasonal mods, the weapon metas have felt great. I haven't even mentioned the Trials of Osiris changes that happened this season but it's currently on hiatus again anyway so it doesn't really matter that it's awesome. I'm really glad that we have so much time until Witch Queen drops because I will have more time to try new builds in so much different content.
I'm currently working on a video for a second channel about the importance of Final Patches in MMO expansions for a second channel, and it's literally because of how good this season is on top of how well FF14 has prepared its players for the launch of End Walker next week. I'm so glad that I came back for this season and I'm also glad that I got my rest, but this season has so many great options for available content and meaningful rewards.

Hi Destiny people!
Tell me about your Guardians!
What's their name? How do they act? Did they avenge Cayde or let Petra do it? Whats their ghost's name? Favorite gun? What power do you favor? Which guardian do you main?
Example!
My Warlock is an Awoken called Yanara. Her ghost is Neptune, and she is an arc warlock. Its unknown if she was the one who's bullet took Uldren's life because she hesitated. Yanara is a tinkerer type guardian who likes to spend a lot of time modding her weapons amd ghost shells. Neptune switches up shells at least once a week and she never leaves him exposed. Her favorite gun is Vigilance Wing and she's absolutely smitten over The Crow because she believes second chances are important. She also is the only one who would tell him what happened.
My Hunter is a human called Yvera. Their ghost is Andromeda, and they are a void hunter. They absolutely avenged Cayde with zero hesitation amd has become a point of contention between them and Andromeda because she (Andromeda) didn't think it was right to do. They are a novice historian on the old world and spend a lot of time trying to relearn earth's lost history and stories. Andromeda has exactly two shells; one for hunting and one for crucible and that's it. Their favorite gun is Horror Story. They begrudgingly work with The Crow because Cayde believed in second chances. They aren't happy about it though.
My Titan is an Awoken named Viktor. His ghost is Icarus and he is a Solar Titan. He did NOT kill Uldren and believed that he could be redeemed if he tried. Petra did not agree. He is pure of heart, dumb of ass, and like many other Guardians, enjoys the thrills of crucible. He is ADAMANT that Guardian on Guardian violence is monsterous outside of crucible and would try very hard to protect The Crow. His favorite gun is Xenophage because it hits like a train, and so does he. Icarus chooses his own shells and Viktor reinforces them.
Of these three I play Yanara most! Though Yvera and Viktor do get pretty regular rotation in games as well!

#1 Cayde/Shiro, Uldren/Jolyon
Tumblr media
"Remember when I said I was having second thoughts?" Shiro-4 mutters as he glances again to the only exit- a dark tunnel of busted turbines that catch the surface winds and twist them into eerie, thin screams by the time they reach the two Hunters deep beneath the Cosmodrome walls. "Now I'm having third and fourth thoughts. They all end with progressively grimmer versions of our deaths."
Cayde snickers and continues to paw through what is definitely a personal footlocker at the end of a cot. "Hey, man! Get excited! It's not every day we find a nest."
The faded black and gold crest hanging from the wall is exactly the thing that has Shiro most eager to leave. The Reef's band of spies and assassins might not be a common sight on Earth but Shiro's never heard a tale of Guardian and Crow interactions that ended with 'and then they all shook hands and walked away'.
"Where there's a nest, there must be Crows, Cayde!"
"Relax! Look at the dust in this place. Nobody's been here for a long time."
Shiro frowns at the thorough blanket of rust flakes covering the empty shelves lining the tunnel. Even the logical observation does little to calm the uneasy static in his limbs.
Cayde triumphantly rescues a sliver of purple crystal from the footlocker. He offers it to Sundance to store away and moves on to patting down the ratty cot. "You ever met the prince of the Reef?"
"No," Shiro grouses as he toes aside a couple old, spent handcannon shells that have him so concerned he doesn't even question why Cayde would bring up Uldren Sov so casually. "I'd appreciate it if today could not be the day either."
Cayde pretends he doesn't hear and rambles on. "Colossal asshole! Stupid hair. Possible mommy issues. Definitely sister issues. Nice legs though."
The overhead light flickers. Something twists and frays in the scout's chest and his stomach drops like an uncoupled elevator.
"I'm out of here," Shiro announces with conviction, his feet already moving.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Cayde has to scramble, long legs vaulting him over the pathetic cot and catching up with the other Exo before he can so much as duck past the first broken turbine. "What's got you so wound up today?"
"I don't like this place." Shiro shrugs Cayde's hand from his shoulder. "Hate being some place I can't see the sky. Or without multiple escape routes."
They don't talk about why. Hunter skittishness tends to come from direct experience and Cayde and Shiro share some of the same experiences. Cayde affects a tongue click of grudging understanding before nearly cooing. "Come here. I know how to calm you down."
"Really?" Shiro grunts at the hands on his hips. "Here, of all places?"
Cayde hums in affirmative and worms his hand into Shiro’s pants.
The rolling of Shiro's eyes is mostly for show- a way of keeping Cayde from getting too big a head. "You could have at least wiped those hands off first."
The grumbling does nothing to deter Cayde’s fingers and Shiro hates that it only takes a few seconds to actually relax into the sensation of stroking fingers and the comfort of Cayde's body close but somehow pushing back the claustrophobia-inducing vibe of the space around them.
“That better?”
Shiro, contrary, doesn’t answer. But he does let his forehead settle against Cayde's shoulder.
"That's a good boy."
At the same time, Shiro frowns and squirms closer.
Cayde doubles his efforts, sinking into narrow crevices and tender spots until Shiro is whimpering and twitching into his fingers.
This man is sometimes the best and worst thing to happen to Shiro and it's mind boggling how quickly a situation can swing either way.
Case in point; Just as Shiro is thinking about digging his fingers into Cayde's ass and coming all over the other man's hand, the sound of steps drift down the tunnel- loud enough it's clear the owners don't feel the need to sneak.
Both Hunters snap to readiness. Shiro steps back and unholsters his sidearm but Cayde pulls him further away from the tunnel’s mouth, frantically bundling them behind a jutting piece of wall that looks like a fraction of a closet. Cayde yanks his fluttering cape into hiding just before a dramatic sigh pops from the room's entrance.
"Look at this place. I told her we should have put down the House of Kings before they became too aggressive in the area. Instead they run rampant and I start another Earth nest from zero."
"You know your sister," a second voice quips softly, "a dozen plates spinning on a dozen hands and none of us invited to the show."
The first man huffs but follows with an agreeing chuckle.
Two ideas cut across Shiro's brain at once. The first is that this is not just any passing Crow but the Prince of the Reef, Uldren Sov himself. The second thought is that somehow, someway, Cayde must have known the Prince of the Reef was on his way to this location and still decided to poke around the place.
Shiro glares silent death at Cayde whose face twists in all the protest he would be spewing in rapid fire if it weren't for the two men just feet away still oblivious to the intruding Hunters. Shiro doesn't buy the other Exo's shocked and repentant expressions for a minute and gives serious thought to kicking Cayde out of cover first to draw attention while Shiro abandons him and makes a run for it on his own.
"We're not starting from zero," soothes Uldren's companion with an almost teasing lilt. "Some of the furniture is still here."
Shiro is struggling to place the second man- another Crow? A freelancer? It's difficult to gage the danger they're in without knowing the second man's identity.
"You're right," Uldren agrees, strangely breathless. "A single bed is all we need to start."
Then, Traveler take Shiro where he stands, someone laughs, then the rusted cot squeaks, and someone moans.
Shiro switches from glaring squinty death threats to fighting to keep his eyes from falling out of his head in surprise. The same surprise strikes Cayde but he recovers much quicker and, by the time two sets of panting breaths are rising just on the other side of their minimalistic hiding spot, Cayde has dropped his head to Shiro's and he practically quakes with bately-contained amusement.
Shiro pinches a soft, vulnerable spot to say 'It isn't funny!'
But Cayde's eyes only glow brighter with mirth when he rights himself to stare Shiro down. Mirth falls to mischief in the subtly shifting hue of glowing eyes and-
Shit. Shiro knows that look. Even with the warning, Shiro very nearly yelps when hands find their way back into his unzipped pants.
'Really? Now?' He screams with his eyes.
Cayde shrugs a single shoulder and wriggles a finger down and in and up, up, up. Shiro's whole damn mod clenches around it. He thinks of ways to later punish Cayde for this reckless behavior. They only serve to make Shiro clench harder and buck against that misbehaving finger.
Shiro wouldn't consider himself a voyeur but he has to admit that there's something in the rising pitch of the voices just beyond and the rythmic protest of old metal that make it impossible not to get a little more excited and to match pace.
Cayde is so damn smug when Shiro chances a glance that Shiro shuts his eyes and locks his jaw before he rocks into those fingers again.
The best and worst.
Uldren comes first- the high, strangled whine so sudden and loud that it almost sounds like he's been shot. Shiro's face twitches when he realizes he knows what the Prince of the Reef sounds like during orgasm. Sov's partner follows shortly after and Shiro spills hot and almost painfully sharp somewhere between that last satisfied sigh and the absolutely thundering silence that follows.
He refuses to look at Cayde. Absolutely refuses. But, when he inevitably does, he finds Cayde with his own cock in hand slowly jerking it as he fixates on Shiro's thoroughly embarrassed face.
Cayde is the absolute worst, Shiro decides. He reaches out anyway to lend the man a hand.
