#how i usually prepare my snakes rats (which come frozen) #is i thaw them overnight in the fridge #then i put it in 2 zip lock baggies #then i put a pot of water on the stove at low low low #and let it slowly heat up to skin temperature #then i remove it from the ziploc and give it to my snake #well this time (this happens sometimes) #the baggies got holes in them and water seeped througb #so when i poured out the boiling water into the sink #i got a steam facial #and let me tell you #it smelt SO BAD #went right up my nose #terrible stuff guys #do not recommend

So we’ve had a freeze over here since yesterday, and this has been my experience when I go outside

Also I say 20 degrees, but that’s only been today, yesterday was 30. Which isn’t much better, but it wasn’t 20

But yeah, I’m not exactly prepared for the weather. And unfortunately, since I can’t drive and have to rely on buses which are currently operating hourly (if they’re running at all today), I can’t go out and get stuff like gloves or longer socks

This is why it sucks to live in Texas, because we don’t usually get snow and stuff like that, so we aren’t really prepared whenever we do get that, and I’m currently left like this

Also this is just my normal outfit plus a bigger jacket, I usually wear this all throughout the year (though I lose the jacket when I go home since I don’t go out much)

Ah well, I just felt like complaining about it through a poorly drawn sketch, it was fun

#i ordered a pair of prescription transition glasses online at a great price & i love them sooo much but forgot they'd need adjusting #i just told my manager hey do you mind if i leave a little early today & she was just like yeah no worries #so i walked over to the local opticians & the woman there was so sweet. did the adjustment & was also like #'hey do you want a smaller nose pad? i think it would be more comfortable for you' so she went ahead & did that #whilst explaining to me how the process works bc i've always been genuinely curious how they adjust them. i learned they use a heat machine #to be able to adjust the temples :) also different glasses have different max heat points so you always have to be careful #then she showed me all the tools to switch out the pads which looked very fun. like tiny lego kind of fun #also she asked me abt my accent & i just told her 'no exciting story unfortunately. i'm autistic so i tend to pick up accents #but next time i'll make one up for you' to which she replied with the funniest story abt how her husband who was born without #anything past his right elbow loooooves to do that. make up stories abt how it got frozen off on a trip to the north that went bad or #bitten off by a shark or donated to someone else or to science. & she says all this with so much fond exasperation it was v funny & v sweet #7

i made too much beef lo mein last night so i will just have leftovers for dinner tonight

#it came out really good i think #although ill admit i was lazy for the sauce. #half cup water. beef boullion cube. 2 tablespoons brown sugar. 3 tablespoons soy sauce. #miraculously the amount of soy sauce that was left in the bottle before i started cooking was exactly enough to marinate the beef and make #the sauce. #but i used fresh garlic and onion #dont have a lot of fresh veggies so i used frozen green beans and peas #if the pea plants in my garden hadnt been obliterated by animals i would probably have had pea pods to put in it. oh well. #i also threw in some ground ginger as well as red pepper flakes #put more red pepper in than i meant to but it wasnt too spicy for me it was really good #made my nose run lol

I'm reading up about hognose snakes rn and I want one SO BAD but I can't have one both bc my gf has a phobia of snakes and also bc I don't think I have the heart to feed it mice 😭

#i dont think ill ever really have the opportunity to get a snake with my gf's phobia #but if i did it would need to be an insectivore #apparently hognose snakes can also eat eggs but id imagine an egg only diet wouldnt be very nutritionally balanced for them #and im not about to buy an animal just to neglect it #(they can also eat amphibians and lizards but that can introduce parasites to them AND i still dont think id have the heart for it) #theyre so cute tho omg. they crawl in between your fingers and take little sippy sips from water #ideally their startle responses wouldnt be something id ever see bc i wouldnt want them to get stressed out but even THOSE are cute #they flatten themselves to the ground like a pancake to make themselves look Bigger but they actually just look cute #they flare their neck out to pretend to be a cobra but when baby snakes do it its adorable #instead of biting to ward off predators they hit them with their noses #and if that doesnt work they full on play dead. LITERALLY roll onto their backs and loll their tongues out #and if someone flips them back over when theyre doing that theyll roll back onto their backs again like noooo dont look at me im deeaaad #they get really excited about feeding time too and apparently some of them will open their little mouths like a baby bird #mice are one of their main prey sources in the wild and to my knowledge they don't eat fish #but when they're babies you gotta teach them to eat frozen/thawed mice by putting juice from a tuna can on it like you're weaning a kitten #once they get past their picky toddler stage tho they'll come up to the front of the cage and beg for food #i want a snek so bad 😭 #someone who can take really good care of a snake without getting in their feels about feeder mice please get one so i can hang out with it #rambling
