A4. Teaching one another their language(s)

Standing on the battlement of the High Hall's curtain wall, Minthara leaned between the shattered merlons and rested her weight on tired arms. She surveyed the destruction of Baldur's Gate. So much potential lost, so many souls burned away who might have been useful for something more than dragonfire fodder.

All without even a throne to lay claim to in the end. The power of the Netherbrain had been denied by their foolish leader, and Minthara had no intentions of joining their victory parade down in the streets. Not while she had another waiting on her.

Eyes closed in meditation, legs crossed beneath her, Lae'zel murmured. She said words that Minthara knew to be gith, but she barely understood more than a smattering of ideas and phrases.

"To whom do you now pray?" asked Minthara, her voice carrying on the quiet evening's air.

"It is not a prayer. It is rectification of an old lie," Lae'zel corrected. "It's an old githyanki hymn. A mantra we believed to be passed down from Mother Gith herself."

"Share it with me."

"Taking an interest in more advanced cultures, drow?"

"I know a little of the gith," Minthara explained, "but I know even less of what you hold dear about your people." She turned to lean against the embrasure, watching Lae'zel's eyes scan her. "Come. Speak it with the verve and strength I expect from you."

With that, Lae'zel slowly repeated a string of harsh consonants that Minthara learned to expect from the language. Minthara caught a particular rhythm that felt like stanzas, and she heard what might have been called a rhyming scheme.

It was a jagged series of sounds, sharp and angry. A curved sword on Lae'zel's tongue.

"It is beautiful," Minthara whispered. "And it means?"

"Live, but only if you live free. Die so as to remain standing." Lae'zel spoke slowly with reverence. Then, her voice became darker, and her wide eyes slitted into lines. "Fire in the skies, blood in the water. Look to the spirit, turn from sensation."

"I take it the last few lines were a rather recent addition."

"They're Vlaakith's words, and I wonder why it is I trusted them."

Minthara chuckled. "There's a saying in drowic that you might like, then."

Lae'zel merely stared at her.

"Jal khaless zhah waela," Minthara said while she unbuckled her gauntlet straps. Tossing aside her gauntlets, she continued. "All trust is foolish, literally. Or to most drow, paranoia and fear are your greatest allies. Curious how Lolth and Vlaakith both demand such things from their children."

"It is almost as if these goddesses forget who gives them power," growled Lae'zel as she stood to her feet.

"As if the words we were taught to speak were pointed, intentional shackles on our ambition." Minthara approached her, heat burning in her chest. "On what we are owed."

Lae'zel's small nose flared and her pupils darted about, searching Minthara's face. Her breaths accelerated. Her fingers curled into her palms.

"My," said Minthara, "you are so easily moved."

"Whenever you speak, my heart listens enraptured." Lae'zel rested her hand on Minthara's waist. "I become dust that flows in the storm of your words."

"And when you crumble for me," Minthara breathed, gripping Lae'zel's hips until her fingers dug into flesh, "I yearn to put you back together."

Basically me just ranting about Silverloon and how there is genuinely POTENTIAL for a good ship and/or friendship!

Now I KNOWW that most of their interactions consist of them bickering or just insulting each other (the insults are mostly on Silvers part 😔) and stuff like that BUT HEAR ME OUT. ENEMIES TO LOVERS. ALSOO imagine this right, Balloon most likely knows about Silver Spoon manipulating others and being mean to get far in the game and win, and Balloon could find out and confront Silver about it, Silver would deny it at first like obvi, but soon he'd fess up and get sassy like "Well thats how you win is it not??" all fancy like and then Balloon will be like "No dumbass I was like you in season 1 and it's taken over 10 years for people to respect me again, and Nickel still hates me so" then Silver will realize his mistakes and then they could buddy up. (But knowing Silver idk the likely-ness of Silver being convinced that easily but a man can dream)

THEY HAVE SIMILARITIES IN THE SENSE THAT THEY USED TO BE VERY MEAN (well Silver is still mean but quiet) AND THEY COULD WORK OUT PERFECTLY, PLATONICALLY OR ROMANTICALLY. I DON'T REMEMBER MUCH OF SEASON 1 SINCE ITS BEEN LIKE 2 YEARS SINCE I WATCHED IT SO IDK HOW SIMILAR THEY WERE BUT STILL.

AND AT SOME POINT IN SEASON 2, BALLOON ADMITS THAT HE THOUGHT BEING MEAN AND BOSSY WAS HOW YOU WIN IN A GAME LIKE II, AND SILVER SPOON IS CURRENTLY GOING DOWN THE SAME PATH AS BALLOON, SO UNLESS BALLOON DOES END UP CONFRONTING SILVER (which has very good potential for story) THEN THEY COULD ACTUALLY BE FRIENDS!! LIKE AN ENEMIES TO FRIENDS TO LOVERS DEAL (or just enemies to friends) LIKE YK?? ITS PERFECTTT!!

OMG imagine if either Silver or Balloon gets eliminated and Balloon like gives Silver Spoon his little notepad of his poems, like how Candle gave Silver the crystal and the tuning fork omg 😭😭

62.) what’s the weirdest reason you’ve ever shipped something?

Idk if this counts as weird per se but i straight up started shipping winteriron (Tony Stark x Bucky Barnes) because of THIS FUCKING FIC. It sold me on them SO HARD. Sometimes all it takes is one godtier fic that does everything right to get you hooked on a rarepair ✌️😔😔😔

65.) what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written? 

If we're talking og titles i came up with myself, the title of my unpublished TES Oblivion fic is The Stars Have No Names, which ive always been fond of, especially combined with its planned sequel, But Those We Give Them-- which makes a full sentence that just sorta encapsulates the vibe of the whole thing in a way that really scratches my brain just right. This is closely followed by the piece i did for the DSMP Comics Zine, A Few E.G.G.s Short of the Full Scramble, which has multiple layers of puns loaded into it and makes me laugh like a lunatic every time i remember them

As for stuff that isnt original (aka song lyrics or poetry verses, which i steal from shamelessly), i'd have to say im most fond of sightless, unless the eyes reappear, which is the tma fic i wrote that accidentally predicted a decent chunk of the podcast's ending 😭 if i had a fucking nickel.... The verse is ripped from T.S. Eliot's "The Hollow Men" and i really loved how it just perfectly hits the vibes i was going for in that fic. Extremely on-the-nose titles are a game and brother i am WINNING

81.) if you could go back in time and give your younger self a piece of writing advice specific to you, what would it be?

"Hello tiny TJ. First of all, you are a transgender dyke. No this isnt relevant i just thought you ought to know. Anyway cool it with the perfectionism man one day people are gonna read a fic where every individual tag warning you've added is its own separate vine boom and you're gonna get tons of compliments on it despite the fact that it isnt what you consider fully polished. Got that written down? Cool. Now go forth and kiss women, peace<3"

91.) how has your writing style changed over the years?

My writing's always been pretty descriptive, but over the last few years its REALLY shifted into overdrive on the imagery. I think thats always been my biggest strength as a writer, and its something i really, really enjoy doing. As ive said in the past: if im not painting pictures with my words then what, pray tell, is the point!!!

The other thing ive noticed is that ive been dipping my toes into more experimental formatting, whether thats in regards to the story's structure (shout out to that time i planned to write a fic in reverse chronological order), the points of view (second person my beloved), different narration styles, or just the way the words on the page look-- something i know has been directly inspired by my cousin, who has an unpublished 85k Dead Space fanfic which replaces an ENTIRE CHAPTER with a twine game. The man is insane and i love him so much and one day i will bully him into finishing this fic because its not even halfway done what the fuck. Anyway thats my answer THANK YOU BOOK FOR SENDING THESE :DD

Oh wow, been a long while eh? Almost four years! I'm honestly surprised my obsession with the man lasted this long lmao, also surprised anyone still remembers storage wars which got us into this whole mess in the first place >.<

Thank you for indulging me in my Mumbo-centric ways, i swear that man deserves more but as far as I've seen he's always just relegated to a love interest or a side character 😔. Been trying to remedy that but I'm also the slowest writer to ever grace this earth so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Grumbo will always be number 1 in my heart, which might surprise some people lmao but ships like ZIMT and the rarepair ones are so fun to think about.

Now, regarding the ZIT crew they definitely fell at different times and at different speeds. We're going by the time each of them joined and we all know that Mumbo has had a hand in summoning both Tango and Impulse to the server which got Zed into it in the end.

Tango's summoning was a bit like summoning tech support. Quick and business-like, a little bit impersonal but hey, you don't really get a chance to build rapport with every technician you meet. But then Tango was invited back and it helps that they were already on the right foot.

Tango only started to fall around the civil war. They've been chatting and meeting every now and then, usually about the newest iron farm designs but they really got to talking when Mumbo came back from his short stint as a mole.

Impulse's summoning, however, was a lot more personal, and some would say that it all started since then. Freshly summoned but his eyes were already glued to that quiet, suit wearing redstoner whose name he didn't know despite having a tiny piece of the man's soul resting comfortably with his (and vice versa but that's the perils of the type of summoning they did, Tango and Xisuma's been affected as well)

He was pretty unperturbed about the whole thing though, because he's Impulse, the kind of guy with the patience to rebuild his whole base a block higher just because he didn't like the look of it. (Just... no sudden movements following grand discoveries though, that's enough to destabilize Impulse's finely crafted nonchalance)

And funnily enough, I've written the exact moment Mumbo caught Zedaph's eye. Four years ago as well ^^

hey, I'm really sorry, I was just joking around. when I read the poll question for the first time I was confused because there were multiple aspects to it but then reading it a second time I understood and then I wanted to make a joke about that.

You're good!! Frankly I would probably win "most likely to be asked 'hey. What the fuck do you mean? Those words you just said in that order make no sense.'" in every group of people I talk to even semi-regularly. I didn't take what you said all that harshly and I hope I didn't come off very harsh either. I did mean when I said I'm not really all that concerned about the fact that what I said was confusing (I'm saving all of my caring about being coherent on this blog for my essay about how River Song/Rose Tyler is a top tier rarepair. <- joking. Mostly.) and then I kept talking, which is not an uncommon communion issue for me, if I'm honest. I probably could've phrased it a million times better if it has been anything other than "I woke up, skimmed a conversation in a groupchat, then immediately make a Tumblr poll all within like 15 minutes" (and I know for a fact that you're not the only person who was confused/has to reread it a bit). The problem is I live in my head so I understand things I say most of the time 😔

🍉 Do you prefer to write short fics or long fics? Multichaptered works or single ones? Why?

I'd love to be able to dedicate myself to writing all of the longfics that are floating around in my brain, but somehow I end up putting them on pause. So it's single chapters for me that... somehow end up having at least 3.000 words.

🍊 Who’s a character you don’t write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more? (They’re so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo…)

I wish I'd write more for Rhaenyra because I really like her! But for some reason she doesn't speak as clearly to me as f.e. Alicent does. Another character would be Gerri, because I really want to write a bit about her and Roman or so in-depth wrt her relationship with Shiv, but I just never get down to getting it done :/

🫐 What’s your favorite underrated thing in your fandom? (A ship that only you seem to write for, a character there’s almost no fics about, a trope that criminally hasn’t been written yet, etc.)

Getting attached to ships and characters that aren't popular with the general fandom is pretty much my modus operandi 😂 I do like some beloved ships such as Jaime/Brienne and that I actually look for, but as a whole? I'm a rarepair kinda gal.

Then most of my favourite characters are antagonists and/or villains, which means they're already less focused on than the protagonists/heroes.

So you can guess there's a lot of work to be done by only a few people as well. ✊️😔

Alfred/Uhtred. Both actors are amazing and individually I like both characters, but together they just don't work for me! I do see why others ship them though, the chemistry is 100% there, it's just not for me and that's okay!

(Though I have to say, I don't really like Mildrith/Uhtred either because she deserved better than that hotheaded, stubborn mess he was in season 1)

My BROTP for them:

I am drawing a blank here! I'm going with Pyrlig & Uhtred, they were interesting in season 5 and I loved their conversation!

My OTP for them:

FINAN/SIHTRIC/UHTRED. This is literally my OT3 in this entire show, I love them!

My second choice pairing for them:

Finan/Uhtred? I almost don't think it counts since I love any and all permutations of the OT3 above, but I have written Finan/Uhtred more often, I guess that counts...?

It really depends on situation and who exactly has been hurt. For Skizz and Tango, again depending on situation, it's pretty standard to be injured, especially with Skizz cus he ends up getting into fights he can't quite handle.

Tango and Impulse actually get sick easily, mainly Tango. Being from the nether and all, their bodies just haven't adapted to the overworld fully especially with it's illnesses. So when it comes to them being sick they just try to tough it out until one or more of their partners drags them home or something.

Generally their dragged back home and forced to rest, which sometimes but not always involves forced cuddles because that helps a bit.

Zedbeef: 26. What sacrifices do they make for the other?

I don't really know. At some point I had an idea for an AU that Beef became a vampire because of Zed. In a way sacrificing his humanity.

Without the angst stuff though? I don't know. I just don't focus or watch Beef often enough to have good ideas/headcanons for him mainly 😔

Zed is not allowed within a few miles of a kitchen, solely because he is herself. So like they're just not allowed to cook at all no matter the pairing (special exception for Tango but only slightly). Anyways, Beef is a pretty good cook and doesn't mind making food for Zed, he's pretty familiar with her 'dietary restrictions' being a vampire and all.

- Fukagiri is my ultimate rare pair. Favorite shit. In love with them in all iterations. Though Tokomaru also good ofc. Toko has two hands. But here’s Fukagiri hcs cuz I need people to know my love for them. It’s so hard to find content I gotta start makin it myself.

- Kyoko is the best beta reader and initial editor for Toko cuz she pays really good attention to detail and catches little things, and I imagine she gets easily invested in fiction with more personal stakes. Plus she’s a very fair critic in general.

- Kyoko knows Toko has a crush on her long before Toko does(Toko out here with that internalized homophobia 😔). But no matter who it is Kyoko is never the one to act first in a relationship, especially with all Toko’s stuff she’s gotta deal with. If it’s happening post game, I image Toko eventually confesses by writing a letter to Kyoko like, “Don’t read this for a few weeks ok?” And then she goes to hide on Jabberwock for a while cuz Fear Of Rejection lol.

- Kyoko is kinda bad at feelings is the thing lmao. She sits there for like a week after reading the letter, reading it over and over and trying to discuss things with Makoto. Generally poor boy Makoto is the recipient of all Toko AND Kyoko’s gay nonsense He cares them and wants them to be happy but please. Talk to each other about these things just a little. He knows too much.

- I think they take it real slow. Like hand touching is Kyoko Third Base, and as much as Toko fantasizes about romance I feel like she probably gets way to flustered way to easy to go too far too fast. Their first kiss is a few months into dating and all their affection is very private.

- Generally it’s a fairly quiet relationship, mostly on Kyoko’s end. Nobody would guess their dating if not for Toko constantly bragging about how smart and beautiful her girlfriend is especially compared to all your girlfriends. Lmao losers. She’s proven that romance is a game that can be won and she did it.

- Toko is big into small affection like hand holding and needs lots of validation cuz of her anxiety and bad streak with romance in general. Kyoko is always willing to do hand holding, even without gloves when they’re alone. And her compliments are hard to shoot down when she’s so confident and matter of fact and logical.

- Kyoko is much more of a quality time person. Hanging out quietly and reading, or even just standing real close when they’re talking with friends is enough for her. Though she does also like little touches, especially with hair. Tucking it back. Fixing braids. Brushing. Running fingers though it.

- Toko is very attracted to intelligence and conviction. She def fell hard and fast for Kyoko, though it took her a long time to realize it, and mistook it with disdain and jealousy for a while. She’s that one post that’s like. “I had a crush on a guy in my class and so I wrote him a note that said ‘Get out of my school.’”

- Kyoko is most attracted to how passionate Toko can be. I imagine it started as her just wanting to try and understand why Toko’s Like That, and instead of Makoto’s Direct Approach, she started reading Toko’s books and asking her about them. Seeing Toko so in love with her craft and so excited about what she does was def an eye opener in multiple respects.

The ship is Russian politics rpf, which sounds insane enough on its own but ends up just being the carrier/enhancer for everything else, like the bread and jam of me slowly losing my mind

Okay so some basic outlines of insane drama:

So Wolf (well I actually symbolize him w a black cat but I only had a Wolf emoji at the time, and he also wrote a song(!) w Wolf symbolism soooo) - artist/theater/PR guy, works for Oligarch Kitty in The 90s. This does not describe the circumstances in any meaningful way.

This other oligarch bought a football team in the UK in 2003 and now Google gives me notifications when they're playing. I've actually gotten invested. The oligarch has 24 fics in their character tag in ao3. They're all football rpf, not politics. Most of the football rpf is also in Chinese.

The motivations of Oligarch Kitty and those around him are pretty firmly tied to global financial circumstances, esp in the 90s before he got arrested for a decade. His bank was also involved in some money laundering scandals. I'm pretty sure Kitty's lesser shareholders tried to either set him up or eventually kill him.

Wolf is involved with so much Kremlin drama but keeps his real cards very close to his chest. He seems to always let people believe he has the same grandeur and plotting of a fictional supervillain. Some say he was involved in the decision to arrest Kitty in 2003. This seems like an easy thing to detangle. It is not. There are a lot of threads. By following them I have learned a lot of stuff inspired by, yes, a rarepair I found on ao3 😔

1. How did you get into graphics/gif making?

Pff, I don’t even know? I’ve been on Tumblr since...probably 2011 or thereabouts. I’ve been in a lot of fandoms over the past decade, all with their own content creator communities. At some point, after reblogging other people’s stuff, I wanted to try making something myself. After all, it’s one thing to request gifs/graphics and another to have the power and agency to make pretty much whatever you want. Also, a couple of times I ended up smaller fandoms or ended up shipping a rarepair and in those cases you’re pretty much fuelled by necessity, because if you don’t make this content, nobody else will. There was always a lot of tutorials and font/psd/texture packs on Tumblr, Deviantart and even Livejournal, and I just pooled all those resources, tried to follow tutorials, and just...made stuff? With, like, various degrees of success. Even on this blog, some of my ancient stuff from like 5-6 years ago is still up, and god you can tell, 1. my methods and techniques were very inefficient (screencaps to frames...hell... :changedham:), 2. the colouring/style of the gifs is super representative of the dominating trends back in those days (washed out, dark, gritty colourings.) It’s cool to see these trends change (now it’s all about bright colours, light, vibrancy) not only as a fandom member but also as a content creator.

14. Colour(s) you like

...Red. 😏 I would love to work with other colours - yellows, oranges and purples especially intrigue me - but unfortunately I think we’re limited with the type of footage available to us and the quality of said clips. (Sports footage my behated 😔) Red is obviously the easiest for me to work with and manipulate given my focus is usually on Sebchal/Ferrari and those are their dominant colours. Occasionally I go from red -> pink because they’re adjacent colours, but it’s quite difficult to go from red to yellow or something without it looking disastrous (at least in my experience.) Usually you want to work with the colour palette that’s already there to make things easier for yourself. Some people can sort of neutralise those dominant colours and replace them with any colour they like, but 1. I’m not very good at that (yet at least), 2. again the footage leaves much to be desired and generally makes experimentation quite difficult.

18. What is your go to adjustment/PSD for colouring?

I use this base PSD a lot and then adjust/add layers as needed. I have a few other go-to PSDs that generally look quite good on most clips, but their little Photoshop group name differs from the actual file name when you download it, so uh...of course I can’t find them now 😳 Organization, what’s that? As for adjustments, it depends on what you’re working it and what you’re trying to achieve (obviously just “normal” gifs with neutral colourings require less tweaking than a creative type of gifset where you’re trying to exaggerate a certain colour or whatever) but generally speaking Colour Balance and Selective Colour are godsends 🙏🏻

26. Give a graphic and/or gif maker a quick tip!

Oof. Apart from the obvious basics (use HD footage, adjust gif speed to make it look as natural as possible, keep it under 10MB, use Tumblr’s recommended dimensions, etc.) I would say just...Keep learning? A lot of content creators are very graciously sharing their tips, tutorials, answering PS-related questions, etc. There’s a lot of resources out there. Try new things. Try different colours, different fonts. See what works for you. Ultimately this is all trial and error and sometimes it’s fun to push yourself and do something that’s sort of outside of your comfort zone. Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t, but that’s how you learn. ✨

when i started shipping it: when searching my blog the first time i proposed the idea was march 8 but the first content i made was march 10..... so five months ago 😎

my thoughts: ludsley lives in my brain rent free constantly and i love them so much for it... im always really happy abt my own rarepairs but like this one especially i think it’s great and i love making content for them and seeing ppl like it!! this whole thing just makes me really happy fdsjfdkjds

what makes me happy about them: umm everything fff... if you dont mind me Indulging(tm) i like thinking about how their similarities and differences line up and i like that it’s honestly a different but somewhat refreshing experience (peasley being loved for who he is and not his title vs. lud’s unfamiliarity of affection and being around someone who cares abt him that Isn’t his family), i think it’s just a nice connection, that they can be truly themselves around each other without much stress

what makes me sad about them: saying “the lack of content” is the easy man’s answer lmao so i won’t leave it at that

they’re so far away from each other..... also it’s something they kind of kept secret bc they had No idea how their respective families would react. by families i mean parents because their siblings are... Nosy so they found out on their own. but when they Did tell their respective parents they were surprised but still chill abt it, so it’s all good

big spoon/little spoon: because koopas have removable shells, it alternates! i think ludwig should sometimes be the little spoon he deserves it

favorite non-sexual activity: sports/games/competitions etc. are good!! tennis games esp. because if theyre on doubles they Will be almost unstoppable. also most things involving the arts, dancing’s a small one i like thinkin abt cuz it’s one of the few things ludwig’s not big on doing in front of an Audience but he’s fine with it if it’s just the two of them and no one else because they can just. dance, together
