A new character was introduced: an ape named Koro, played by Neil Sandilands

Noa (Owen Teague) sharing the forehead touching gesture symbolizing affection in ape society with a friend

Noa's tribe has built their homes in powerline towers left behind by humanity

Erik Winquist, VFX Supervisor, pointed out that fashions are different between ape tribes. Noa's community wears "woven adornments" while the apes led by Proximus Caesar sport "Romanesque armour made from the scavenged remains of human things"

The idea of trained birds like the one seen with Noa in the poster and teaser trailer came from our own love of pets. Director Wes Ball said "That idea came from, 'Man domesticated dogs, so maybe [apes] domesticated eagles?' It was actually the first image I created for the movie. I could just put that up on the wall and say, 'There it is. There's the feel of our movie.'"

Since you said I could ask further about any points - aside from his shit motivations re: technology, what else don't you like about DeVoe?

Biggest complaint (aside from motivations etc) is that I don’t like the bodyswap plot. Like…genuinely, it’s so unnecessary, and none of the other actors really match Neil Sandilands (the main actor)’s energy. It feels like they’re all trying to impersonate him, but it just doesn’t suit any of them. I think Dominic’s actor came closest (or maybe I just think that because we see him the most), but even he couldn’t manage it.

I really think he should’ve just absorbed their powers, killing them in the process (or just rendering them powerless). Especially since, to go back to a previous point, it’s unnecessary. He doesn’t really use it to avoid scrutiny…except in his fake murder, I guess, but I’m sure there were other ways to pull that off. Just frame Barry for killing someone else 🤷‍♀️ give him some beef with someone else that you could spin into a murder motive

(I have issues with how that fake murder goes down, but I’m not gonna derail this ask with that 😅 it’s unrelated)

Also…I know you said “aside from his motivations”, but one thing I wanna know is why he wants to use satellites to wipe everyone’s memory to re-educate that world? Like…even if we ignore that satellites are technology, how does a mass memory-wipe actually further his goals? This would fit better with him thinking everyone in general is stupid, and he can do better, but…aside from a few lines where he says this, that’s never set up in any way.

His writing in general is just so brutally messy—and when I think about how Eowells was apparently a “big fan”, and how DeVoe was the villain who messed with Barry’s head second-most*, I find myself so baffled. This guy? This guy??

*less than Eowells, but more than Zoom, which is just wild to me considering Zoom killed Barry’s dad after training Barry, while DeVoe only got to mess with Barry (paranoia in early s4; framing him for murder) because the writing decided to be stupid

If anyone else wants to ask for elaboration on any points from this post, feel free! I think about this show way too much 😅
