we get a lot of really great stuff in system collapse about murderbot's relationships with ART and ratthi, which makes sense, because it spends almost the entire book with them. but i also love how even though mensah isn't there for most of the story, other people keep reminding mb of her:

it's spent so much time with her and it knows her so well and respects her so much that she's the model against which it compares all other humans. it thinks about her when they're not together. it's protective of her. it has such total faith in her competence. it (non-romantically) loves her and doesn't want to not see her again. idk man, it just gets to me! and they were teammates (oh my god they were teammates!!)

One thing that's fascinating about Daisy as a character is that she's so powerfully slow. Not in wit or intellect, but physically, as a hunter. She knows her power and she has no need to rush or flail, it's easy to be calm when you have no difficulty asserting yourself.

This makes it all the more clear when the power slips from her grasp. She rushes, fumbles, makes mistakes. There's very few times that she slips up, early on at least. Aside from a few select moments she maintains the gravitas and power of a wolf or a bear all the way from her introduction to the coffin, but after the coffin things change.

Basira has every reason to be upset at her change, because after that trauma Daisy becomes a different thing entirely. Her demeanour changes, she speeds up, she's skittish, she loses her strength. She's no longer slow and certain but weak and clingy.

It might feel wrong to want that slow and steady person back but relationships are like music and if the tempo changes the balance shifts and that can lead to terrible things, things that cause you to lose eachother.

Am I saying that perhaps if Daisy had somehow managed to avoid traumatisation, keep her tempo stable, that she wouldn't have had to sacrifice herself?

Maybe.

Even in her early moments of irrationality there is a swift calculation to it, an understanding. If Daisy had been able to keep a grasp on her fierce intellect perhaps the violence of the hunt could have been suppressed!

But no, what use is there in thinking like that? After all, animals can never live as long as humans.

Hi! I have a question about neopronouns. How do they work in different languages? Do you just leave the ae/aer untranslated, do you try to make them sound more french/spanish/whatever, does it depend on the person and are you supposed to ask for their preferences? I ususally stick to whatever translateable pronoun someone uses if they use multiple pronouns, but I'm not sure if its rude just sticking to one because of translation issues

Totally depends on the person! I don't think I've ever set my pronoun preferences in different languages down, so I'll just say: when referring to me in a language that has a common gender neutral pronoun, or one that is newly being used among non binary speakers of that language, use it for me. If there's a reasonable way to adapt ae/aer or te/ter, use that. If there's absolutely no other option, you can use the equivalent of "it" or "she".

I think generally speaking most people who use a neopronoun would prefer the closest equivalent you can manage, but it's good to ask if you can. Else, go neutral.

The episode was good. Kinda. I get that a lot of people rly liked this episode and I feel bad for being hypercritical of it since I'm not even a long term fan (Feb 2020) but idk I just think that maybe it was just ok??? I also don't think I even understand the episode I think I'm missing a lot :o(((

Like I am so excited for the new arc that is coming but this one was lacking. I sat there and patiently waited for Carlos to appear the entire year and he was only in the last few episodes. I understand the reasoning for Carlos laying low when science was made illegal as he had a family there and getting arrested could mean full freedom for Lubelle and her being victorious in explaining nightvale away. Carlos was really the only other person (that I know of) who knew anything about Lubelle without being one of her minions. And even her minions didn't make sense? Like Blake Jones was tossed around about whether or not he was a good guy for no real reason. At the end him switching sides held no meaning for me and while I didn't expect it to happen but I also just did not care. I think the bathroom thing with him getting arrested was to further the distrust we have for him and Lubelle not caring was on character but him switching sides?? Idk maybe he just didn't find purpose with being on her side since he realized she didn't actually care about any of her scientists but that doesn't explain how he got the presumable flood of scientists behind her when they met at the UOWII to switch sides.

And while Carlos was honestly good for this ep I could not say the same for cecil (at the end) I felt like I was being read a story and not being told one. Cecil wold sit there and we'd get his slight opinion or the one we know he holds but the last episode was just him saying things. He mentions that he's a gossip yet he does not do any gossiping and instead just plays voice messages that were left for him and just repeating what was said. I am also disappointed when it comes to the mention of the DOW from Lubelle cause Cecil just skims past it. I am hoping that he just hasn't processed it. I really do like Cecil's development as a character but I feel like sometimes it just takes away from his character which I really like and it obviously is the key point of the show. He was able to keep private about certain aspects of his life like his son and husband but he is THE oversharer and he always has been so it's just kinda weird getting this episode where there isn't much of his opinions and more or less just what is being said and by who.

I think the arc was doing rly well and I loved the extra info we got about Carlos because it's been years and we still never found much out about him so learning his name, where he was from, and his old work was rly cool and something I appreciated. I also love the idea of him being represented by lavender and I always have. It just has so much meaning for him as a character and I adore it. And the marine biology like oh my godddd. I miss the phantom ocean I love when they let things grow throughout the years and I personally do not think they need to try and end the arc by the anniversary. Maybe they do it cause of the hiatus they have during July tho.

I also might just be misunderstanding this but what's the reason for him (Carlos) going back to the desert other world?? It caused both him and Cecil a lot of pain and he said he never wanted to go back but now that he got arrested he has all of this newfound courage and wants to go back?? This is not even the first time he got arrested so idk. I'm not the best when it comes to understanding feelings portrayed in media so I'll probably go back to look at it.

This ep was good I think it was a bit of a rushed ending but I did like how the glowcloud killed (?) her and the fact that we got to see the understanding and grief as the glow cloud learned their parent was not coming back. I do wish there was more of a consequence of this episode but I do understand and did recognize by the end that Lubelle's work was sloppy and the fact it was possible to have it disproven was kinda unexpected. I just don't think that anything that was disproven when Lubelle was doing it one at a time should've stayed disproven. Also I don't remember if it was mentioned but I do not understand like is Sarah Sultan and Station Management back cause I'm starting to think I'm imagining things.

TL;DR:

The ep was good but had it's lows and feels rushed. Love Carlos tho

Final thoughts :
