ok i have a kimchay ask and it’s kinda two fold
when you first watched kp did you expect kimchay to be together at the end, or had you already accepted they werent gonna be endgame? and then also, what’s your biggest headcanon/favorite idea about what happens to kimchay post canon? when it ended and they werent together, did you have a first thought of like “i’d really like them to meet like this” or “i think they’d meet like this” or even “they’re never gonna be together”?
best wishes for getting back into fic writing mode!!!! 💝
i definitely did not expect them to be the couple with an open/unhappy ending :') the distress i experienced – little kim-hyperfixated me... i was a wreck. i've been a kim apologist from day one, so i was also really distressed over the reactions from so many people in the fandom lmao (i still am.. oops) but anyway. my immediate reaction was like.. "that's it? kim sent the song and chay cried and we don't get to see what happens next?" i am a firm believer of that moment being the turning point for them to slowly make their way back to each other.
i've written a few kimchay reconciliations by now, and i think my biggest headcanon is pretty consistent: that they come back together, but its different and better and also harder this time, because it's more genuine but also comes with all their baggage – Chay has anger and trauma in the aftermath of everything that's happened to him, and Kim doesn't have the Wik persona to hide behind, so all of his traumas and secrets are thrown into the mix.
honestly, when the show first ended, i was a little upset, but after thinking about it more i realized that something like this was essential in their relationship, in order for them to progress to a healthy place. Chay's idolization of Kim/Wik as an ideal had to be broken – Wik was a dream, on a pedestal in Chay's mind, and clearly him ghosting Chay repeatedly wasn't enough to disrupt that, but after everything that happens, Chay is forced to adjust his perception of Kim, and see him more as a person, with faults and flaws and fears and all. it's essential for a multitude of reasons – for Kim and for himself – because it balances out their power dynamics. Kim isn't an idol whose value is above Chay anymore – Chay has just as much worth – and also Kim isn't an emotionless god anymore – he's just as human and imperfect as Chay.
meanwhile, Kim is forced to confront his own mistakes and aversion to honesty and intimacy. he's forced to put in work to dismantle his own emotional walls and acknowledge his feelings and desires, because he can't just be Wik now, and because Chay isn't so naively enchanted by him. he has to be real and honest and let Chay in in order to keep him.
So i think, they'll absolutely end up together, in the end, no matter when it happens, and i think it'll be better than it was <3
thank you so much for this ask! i maybe got a little carried away on that last bit but i have a lot of feelings about it lol

Ok enough, I need to say this shit:
People are complaining about how kp fandom "knew" that the characters are fucked up and "LOVED" them as it was compared to OF fandom...please get off tumblr pls...literally atleast 50% people hated on vegas and vegaspete dynamic and still do because they are oh so toxic and the rest 50% were hellbent on proving how kinnporse were a "better" couple, so much purer than vp. That fandom is dogshit crazy since the start what are y'all even saying lmao.
People need to stop watching shows, Especially queer shows with fucked up characters and plot if they don't go ahead and analyse the shit out of it to understand. These kind of shows usually have layers of subtle storytelling and tons of psychology which needs to be interpreted and understood, if you can't do that then let others do it, there are tons of meta everyday posted, or else just fuck off. This is not for you.
All those fellas going around saying how nick deserves "better", are we even watching the same show??? Are we??? Nick did shit which would have landed him in fucking prison if the plot was a little different, he is a walking red flag, ANY decent guy would not be with him, like??? Boston balances him out just 'cause he is as fucked up as nick is if not worse. It's redflag4redflag .

I always knew KP would release a photograph for Loubugs birthday but I thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone breakdown about it!
One, the Wales family are dealing with two cancer diagnoses of two close family members, as well as probably spending a lot of time trying to reassure the kids that Mummy will be ok, so the reactions of some people is a lot.
Two, they are not going to never release a photograph again because people went a bit insane. This isn't a blank thank you card where they were definitely planning to use the Mother's Day photo but couldn't situation.

Hi,
I am writing in context of my comment to your recent KP rewatch post. I have only just started to look at your older posts, and I must thank you very much for actually being the first place where I find proper in depth-criticism of Only Friends. As I mentioned, the show is very dear to me, and when it aired I only saw a lot of ranting and 'Boston is being punished for being poly' commentary, which being poly myself, I just couldn't see at all, as I never perceived Boston as poly rep. Also thank you for bringing Jojo's comments on Boston onto your blog, because I was not aware of those, and they recontextualize the anger of many people a lot for me. But maybe a main reason why I didn't even think about something like that is because I perceived the show absolutely not as a morality piece but as a depiction of a questionable queer friends group and their antics. I always saw the title as ironic, as the cast never gave found family vibes style friends group to me, but instead always showed how deeply problematic they all are.
There is much more I want to say here, and maybe I should make a proper meta post of my own once I have read more of your (partially also reblogged) posts on the matter.
For now I just want to add that I don't see any of the main cast as without major flaws, and I am hoping for a second season that is as messy as the first (messy not as in bad, but continuing to play to the characters' flaws and work with that), as the current stable situation doesn't seem to me like something that will remain. And all that I say as someone who usually doesn't like messy.
To end my rambling, thank you very much again for making your blog such a goldmine of excellent discussion, and insightful meta. I love it.
Thanks so much for the compliments, I appreciate it, @the-iron-queen!
Very interesting to hear that folks were interpreting Boston as poly. Yeah, no. I did not ever go there in my interpretations of him. The polyamory that I’ve seen in Thai shows is limited to the second season of Gay OK Bangkok (Aof’s and Nong Big’s triad) and 3 Will Be Free.
I saw Boston instead as simply having casual sex, and being judged for it. I’d posit that he was judged both by the characters within the show, and — and I say this with a fair amount of seething bias — by the creative team of the show itself. To the point you made about Jojo’s own quotes of calling Boston a slut, I think the character of Boston was likely written with judgement of casual sex in mind. (Which, wtf.)
My review of Theory of Love covers my strong distaste for judgements against casual sex, in part because I subjectively and personally think that judgements against casual sex offer judgy individuals false states of moral superiority that ultimately ring as hypocritical and disingenuous to me — especially if and when those judgy individuals jump at the opportunity to have casual sex themselves. In regards to Only Friends, what I felt was truly disingenuous about the whole show was its original marketing on being a progressive show about casual sex, depicted by actors who seemed to be ready to leave the confines of their branded ships. We got QUITE the opposite instead — the ships shipped together in a seeming condemnation of casual sex outside of monogamous relationships. The way Boston was condemned and left behind by his friends and Nick just seemed kinda unnecessarily brutal.
But this is me taking into account not just what the show internally is saying, but how I also think the show was conceived of and created externally. Den Panuwat, OF’s screenwriter, also had monogamous relationships as end goals in his more recent show of Playboyy, and I’m watching his first screenwriting work now in War of Y, and I’m not terribly impressed by his art. I do agree the “friends” of Only Friends end up in a non-committal and arguably “messy” place, but other than being judgmental dicks, I don’t know what their motivation was to be disloyal assholes in the first place — the show never told me that. It was all just kinda meh in the end.
@the-iron-queen: I’d recommend watching both seasons of Gay OK Bangkok, 3 Will Be Free, and Theory of Love for much more sophisticated conversations about sex from Thailand. I don’t know why more recent Thai BLs are just putzing out on this topic lately, but there’s a short history of really good shows that delve into this, and if I’m not mistaken, I think a few Japanese BLs are also treading well in this territory right now that I need to catch up on. I hope my back catalogue of Old GMMTV Challenge posts keeps you entertained, good luck!

OK, I’ve been poking at Moonlight Chicken, and this is my first time with EarthMix, and as ever, these days, everything SOMEHOW comes back to KP, and this time, the thing is ... The thing is, there’s something about Mix - something about his face, I think - that keeps reminding me of Ta.
And so I’m watching this manic pixie dreamboy hitting on this older, responsible shopkeeper, and out of the corner of my eye I keep vaguely seeing Macau. And then I keep thinking - I’m a big MacauChay fan, but if we posit some kind of KimChay going forward, and free up Macau ... NOW I keep imagining Macau sneaking out nights to pick up older guys. They’re all very respectable, responsible guys - Macau has a type, and it is in NO WAY someone dangerous or volatile, thank you very much, he had and has enough of that bullshit in his life already, in various and sundry ways - but they’re definitely all significantly older than him. And meanwhile, Pete and Vegas are worried that he’s out doing drugs or fencing stolen computer gear or getting into some kind of trouble, and they’re trying to figure out why he’s skulking around and sneaking away at night, trying to figure out what he’s doing hanging out at the night markets instead of in bars or clubs like they’d expect, trying to figure out what kind of bad connections he’s making - but no. Macau is just busy sleeping his way through all of Bangkok’s very responsible, respectable Daddies. (Possibly his apocryphal crush on Dr. Top from the books is part of this pattern, now that I think about it.)
Chay, meanwhile, is super-down with this and is, in fact, Macau’s partner in crime, allowing himself to be dragged to night market after shop after restaurant in Macau’s hunt for very respectable, responsible prey, and giggling behind one hand the ENTIRE TIME. He’s possibly even more indignant than Macau is, after Pete  Vegas  Porsche  Kim (fml, trying to figure out SOMEONE in this little clusterfuck of a family who could actually do stealth is a TASK, I tell you what) surveils them, finally figures out what’s going on, and HYPOCRITICALLY outs Macau’s penchant for older men who like younger guys to Vegas and Pete. Chay cannot BELIEVE you would ever think he would let something happen to Macau on his watch, P’Pete! He PERSONALLY vets every guy Macau sleeps with, and that is not actually as bad as it just sounded when it came out of his mouth!
Pete is barely keeping himself from pointing out Chay’s OWN questionable choices, and meanwhile, Vegas has entirely given up on the task of terrorizing his little brother over this for the opportunity to smirk pointedly at Kim, who’s standing back in one corner, trying to stay out of anyone and everyone’s line of sight and pretending he’s not the BIGGEST HYPOCRITE in this room. I mean, at least Macau is in university, by this point.
Macau is keeping his mouth shut because why incriminate himself, but he knows that Vegas better not be a classist asshole about where Macau’s been pulling, lest Macau point out Vegas’s own apparent penchant for rough-trade working-class bodyguards, Hia. Sorry, P’Pete, but you’re the one who taught him to use whatever he could find as a weapon in self-defense. Just because you meant hand-to-hand combat doesn’t mean he’s not smart enough to know it works in interpersonal chess games just as well. (Thanks for nothing, Uncle Korn, you fucking fuck.)
I like this. I’m going to think about this some more.

What I’m confused about when it comes to what you keep pointing out about Kate’s health being exaggerated and her not being unwell is that Kate said in the video that she told her kids that she’s ‘going to be ok’ and then said ‘as I said to them, I AM well’, where she emphasized ‘am’. I agree with you that people can get hysterical about cancer. And I say this having had a family member with it. I agree that the public is acting like it’s a death sentence. But there’s a difference between public hysteria and people getting caught up in hype, and Kate being forced to make that statement because everyone kept making up ridiculous conspiracy theories. I also don’t rule out them not being 100% honest about the timeline or details. But I don’t think Kate is proactively trying to get people to worry about her more than they need to. I do think though that she does think it’s necessary to share the seriousness of the situation even if the critical stage is in the past, in order to get everyone to back off.
Tumblr media
There are so many problems that the situation is not "Where do you start?" but "Where does it end?"
The "planned abdominal surgery" announcement, which seemed to catch everyone by surprise, even the people who work in W&K's circle and Buckingham Palace. Spanish media reported that her surgery was NOT planned. And yet, Dr. Reiner seemed flummoxed by Kate's description of her "planned abdominal surgery," perhaps it wasn't really "planned" but emergency surgery?
Kensington Palace's public pissing match with the Ministry of Defence over The Colonel's Review in June.
The revelation that William didn't attend Constantine's memorial due to allegedly finding out about Kate's cancer, yet she also started "preventative chemotherapy" in the same time frame? Rumors also allegedly circulated in January amongst the UK media that they knew of Kate's cancer diagnosis then but never published the info.
The Mother's Day photo fiasco, which Kate (sort of) takes responsibility for, yet later articles state they plan to sack staff when this is "all over." (Whenever that is!)
A cancer announcement, which coincidentally whitewashes all previous fuckups, yet could have been adverted with a simple statement weeks earlier. The announcement is allegedly timed to coincide with the kids' term break due to media attention, yet appears to be in response to previous comms/PR failures. However, a simple statement/announcement weeks earlier would have reduced the media attention that had increased, purely based on all the previous fuckups by KP that ratcheted up the atmosphere. Additionally, the kids had already been without their mother for two weeks in January, watched her recover from surgery, and allegedly watched her react to "preventative chemotherapy" treatments that started at the end of February. But the media coverage at the end of March--that they likely don't read--is something more damaging to them than what they've already seen with their own eyes and ears at home? WTF?!
We have a new phrase added to the lexicon, "preventative chemotherapy." I'm sure there are plenty of doctors SO EXCITED to have their patients come into their annual exams asking for some "preventative chemotherapy" just like Kate because they're worried about getting cancer. It'll be the new "Kate Effect!" Can't wait for those articles to drop in the future.
NONE of this is going to age well. Not in three months. Not in six months. Not a year later.
Can't wait to read the future book that has all the behind-the-scenes details.

Gonna end my semi-intensive campaign for the best kiss bracket here. I can see the writing on the wall: I've looked at the number of voters in each poll, and not only is this round decided, I can already tell who will win the semi-finals and the finals.
I was having a lot of fun campaigning and analyzing and updating my posts. But it stopped being fun. The one I don't want to win is going to win it all, and in the next round campaigning for OFC over PatPran is going to feel unnecessarily divisive.
I went into it as a fun way to talk about BL kisses, but my hater's heart has emerged a little to strongly, which isn't fun for me.
At some point I may write about my thoughts and feelings about Kinnporsche. Both the show itself, and also the fandom around it; which fascinates and baffles me, and sometimes annoys me, and is pushing me to face the fact that in some ways I can't help but be a contrarian. Seeing something get super popular that I have mixed feelings about, or think is only ok, usually pushes me to the other direction and dislike the thing and see its flaws.
In general I also tend to get tired even of shows I love if I'm overexposed to them. So I have filters even for things I really liked, like The Eclipse, Bad Buddy and Big Dragon because I was reaching saturation point and didn't want to stop liking them.
None of this is self-knowledge that's new to me; I've been thinking about it vaguely all along, but this poll is pushing it to the forefront. Even though I assumed from the beginning KP would win, my feelings about seeing it beating out other shows are stronger than expected.
And on an intellectual level, I am just so fascinated by why it is THE show out of all BL shows that has developed such an enormous fandom. My impression is that most fans of BL are fans of the genre as a whole, or at least multiple shows, but that there are large numbers KP fans who are fans of only that. (I don't know if that's accurate though. I've drafted a poll to try and get some of the demographics of that, though I suspect my reach isn't big enough to get a enough responses to get any real answers about it.)
Don't get me wrong, I was completely absorbed when I binged the first half of the series in late June. And also went a little crazy over vegaspete when I binged the second half after the whole show was out. It was the show that got me talking on tumblr, and in that way was the first show that made me part of a "fandom." So I can see why people get obsessed with it. Just not sure why there are so many more than for other good BL shows.
Is it because iQIYI did such heavy advertising? I actually heard of the show several months before I even heard of BL, and then watched it mainly because iQIYI kept reminding me about it. For me, it became a gateway to BL more generally, but perhaps there are a lot of fans who just stopped with that?
Is there also a large group of people who were watching BL casually but weren't particularly BL fans, and then watched KP and thought it better than anything other BL? I've seen scattered comments with those opinions, but not sure how broad-spread it is. (I suppose if I'm feeling very curious and very brave I could go into the comments and reviews on KP's MDL page, which might give me some idea of numbers.)
With how my ADHD manifests, I don't have the attention span to become devoted to one show at the exclusion of all others, and so I can't really understand the mindset of fans who do fandom like that. (For any show, be it Star Wars or Marvel or The Untamed.) But I guess there are many people who do participate in fandoms that way? And KP is one of the shows that many of that style of fan found?
Is it the mafia plot? (there have been other mafia plots.) Is it how glossy and expensive it all looked, and the truly excellent cinematography? Is it how high heat the sex scenes were? (Were they significantly higher heat than anything previous though? Could be.)
Is there something about Kinn and Porsche as a couple that is particularly compelling to people? (I don't personally think so, certainly not compared to other BL couples. For me their story kinda petered out once they got together. And I found Mile's acting serviceable, but not that compelling, but I do see that he has lots of fans so perhaps it's just me.)
If so, what is unique about them? Enemies to lovers, boss-employee, torn between duty and love—I guess that combo is somewhat unique? I can't think of other shows off the top of my head now at least.
Is it the darkness and danger and plottiness of the mafia story? I know that sort of thing tends to engender obsessive fandoms. Are there other shows that have that too? I can see why if that's your thing, you wouldn't be into more slice of life BL like Old Fashion Cupcake or Semantic Error, or the youthful high jinx of most HS or Uni set shows.
Some combination of all of that? Some luck of timing? Did the advertising have a significantly bigger reach than for any other BL? With KP being my entry point into BL, I'm not able to compare with what the fandom was like before it came out.
Anyway, not sure if this is coherent, and absolutely NOT trying to start discourse. But if you do have theories you feel like sharing about how KP ended up with the fandom it has, I'd love to hear them. Or do you think I'm wrong and its fandom actually isn't unique for BL?
For context, the ten most popular BL shows on MDL are
The Untamed (2019) - 83,572
2Gether (2020) - 60,952
TharnType (2019) - 57,444
Until We Meet Again (2019) - 55,451
KinnPorsche (2022) - 52,838
Where Your Eyes Linger (2020) - 50,310
Semantic Error (2022) - 50,309
Theory of Love (2019) - 49,263
Bad Buddy (2021) - 48,411
Love By Chance (2018) - 46,652
I'm measuring "popularity" by the number of MDL users who list the show as watched. The show on MDL with the most watchers of everything is Goblin (aka Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) with 199,983.
The Untamed I would say has it's own fandom, overlapping with but distinct from BL fans. In some ways (other than heat levels) I can see it as a model of what might make KP so uniquely popular as well - complex plot, violent danger, and angst, and lovers kept apart by circumstance.
Most of the other shows on the list are popular Thai BL from three to four years ago, so it makes sense to me why they've accumulated lots of watchers. Where Your Eyes Linger, at number 6, surprised me, I don't hear much about it on tumblr these days and would have guessed it was much further down. KinnPorsche and Semantic Error are the newest shows on the list, coming out around the same time last year. But although I hear a lot of love for SE, I don't see it having an obsessive one-show fandom like KP does. I do see a lot of very devoted Bad Buddy fans, but again, most of them seem to also be general BL fans.
Addendum: (For the record, my assumption/prediction is that KP and PatPran will win their respective semifinals, and KP will win it all, by at least a 20 percentage point difference.)

Empress, can I vent here please? Because I'm so tired of people saying Catherine should do more. That Catherine just meeting people to "listen to expert opinion" is getting old and tat she needs to be out more. That her privilage and position doesn't justify the amount of time she takes off. Like really?
Somehow, her taking a meeting at Windsor is a stupid move and is now controversial because they said KP is still their official office and Windsor is their home. Say what now?
That just meeting experts or talking about early years is now getting on people's nerves and they can't stand it because bits boring. Boring? Really?
That all she ever does is early years and it's about damn time she pull up her socks does some other substantial work because surely just talking about research or getting people together to talk about research isn't real work worthy of a princess of wales. Oh wow! So research is boring now?!
A bunch of Tumblr fans and social media followers complain about her early years project . And they justify this because they are all loyal royal watchers who expect more from their idols. I don't get it, I really don't.
First of all, Catherine isn't here in this world to look good, buy pretty clothes and click cute pictures. Whether she is seen out and about has no reflection on whatever work she does (or doesn't do). It's not my business or anyone's business to demand she do a certain kind of work.
She is part of a system. Part of an institution. And within that, within the stipulated parameters she is doing her work. If they wanted her to change anything at all about her work they would tell her or just frankly force her to change and conform to whatever plans they have for her.
But also, calling research boring, calling "talking to experts" irrelevant is ridiculous. How else are we expected to make changes in our education system and education policies of people with the right knowledge do not come together? Where is money, capital, funding, platforms for these changes coming from? She, with her initiati, is providing that!!
It's part of the government initiatives. She is essentially a govt employee. And she does what's required. And I am tired of people expecting more of Catherine and William because according to people they are capable of so much more
I'm tired of this. I'm not saying this as a Wales fan, ok. I'm also saying this as someone bwith critical thinking. Why TF does if matter to us, non British citizens, how the British government expects it's royals to act and work? How and why?
Why enforce our expectations on the Wales couple and justify it as tough love or whatever? Wtf has happened to royal watching, seriously?
A big fat yes to everything you just said.
Tough love my ass. I see so called fans being continuously disappointed by everything that the Waleses do, perhaps it's time for such people to move on to celebs who can meet their expectations.

ok so im doing a watch of KP with my bestie so im kinda doing my own rewatch and i just had THOUGHTS. with big investigating everything with porsche's family and unlocking pieces of the nampheung debacle and providing that info to Kim... do we think he would've lived anyway? i think it's very possible Tawan merely expedited an ending Big was already hurdling towards. at what point would Korn have taken him out to protect his secret? or was it fun for him to see his son's wheels turning, was there a little pride there? i just don't think he would've allowed a loose end like Big to continue, though. i don't really think he could've allowed a "lowly bodyguard" to walk around just knowing this information - even if he never pieced together the whole story.
as much as i HATE Big's death in episode 10, i think maybe it was inevitable.. and maybe it was kinder to be killed by an enemy than by your own. (likely Chan)

VegasTawan Vs. VegasPete
Ok, back for the first time in a while with KP meta, sparked by @abstractelysium (and I do have to admit that I’ve been missing writing metas so this is a good opportunity).
The contrast between Vegas’s relationship with Tawan and his relationship with Pete is most prominent in the context of control. Vegas craves control over everything, likely due to his father’s abuse and his own feelings of inferiority pushing him to pursue that same reaction in other people, either as a distraction or a way of attaining the dominance he’s never had himself. Manipulation is an outlet for Vegas to deal with his trauma--and he seems to know this. It’s why he’s gotten so good at it; he’s cultivated this skill as a (horrific, ugly, terrible, unjustified) trauma response.
Tawan is one of the many outlets Vegas has for this manipulation. Vegas gains affirmation in putting everyone under his spell. Despite what we were initially led to believe about Tawan, he’s actually quite gullible and malleable. Case in point: Vegas fabricates their entire relationship, convinces Tawan that his feelings are genuine (even when Tawan must know about Vegas’s reputation) and twists it all to his advantage. There’s an argument that Vegas’s intentions when pursuing Tawan were always just to use him for his long-term plans, but I think it goes deeper than that--manipulation is a thrill for Vegas, plus he has the advantage of getting Tawan to take part in his schemes (and screwing with Kinn’s head in the process).
Pete was a similar outlet, at first. Vegas sought to manipulate him, not to make him love him, but to make him submit to him. While his approach is different, the end result is ultimately quite similar for Vegas: the satisfaction of having bent someone to his will. He succeeds, in part, on Pete during the torture episode, but there’s a distinct difference. Vegas is changing too, in a way he never did with Tawan. I don’t think it’s fair to say that it’s solely because Pete resists him for so long--as I’m sure many of Vegas’s victims have held out under torture--but it’s the shred of empathy Pete shows Vegas even when he doesn’t deserve it.
We’ve seen Vegas admit multiple times that he’s a bad guy. He doesn’t attempt to justify his actions beyond their ability to help him reach his own selfish goals. So it seems fair to say that, even if he wasn’t torturing Pete, Vegas doesn’t expect any sort of empathy from anyone. He hasn’t come to expect that because his father never offered it to him. No one has cared for him before, so there’s no reason to think they’ll start now. Especially not now.
Pete resists him, despises him, and feeds right into Vegas’s little game. Until he doesn’t. Until Pete sees the damaged part of Vegas. Then Vegas is fueled even more to break Pete, because Pete’s finally seen the part of him that he wants to keep hidden from everyone else. That, to me, is what indicated that this relationship would be different. Vegas is careful to guard the part of himself that’s abused and hurt and a victim, like all bullies do. Pete sees it, Vegas lashes out at him even harder than before, and what does Pete do? When he has an opportunity to escape, he comes back. Because he sees Vegas’s brokenness, and he doesn’t understand it, but he wants to assuage it in any way that he can.
I’ve done a lot of rambling, but in my mind, the difference is this: Vegas manipulates Tawan and succeeds in this. Vegas tries to manipulate Pete and might have succeeded in it, had Pete not shown him empathy. And Vegas is the victim of empathy, as it’s the one thing he’s been craving from his father but has been without for so many years.
(I hope this answered your question--it’s been a while since I last watched KP, but writing this post was super fun and has gotten me back into it ❤️)

Ok, I am doing this on Tumblr as it's long and I don't think Twitter is the right medium for this size.
First to mention - KP was and still is the first and for now only serialized asian production that i've ever watched (excluding anime) and I have never been part of the kpop fandom.
Maybe because of that I don't understand the fandom's obsession with scheduled live events promoting a brand or a product for artists.
And the belief that if an artist isn't doing those, then nothing professional is happening in their life and the company that they are signed on isn't working with and for them at all.
As I mentioned I'm not familiar with the other players in this market. But I do remember last year, when I started being interested in KP, reading multiple posts that the other companies in Thailand don't have the best environment to work in. And that was said quite loudly.
And everything i've read, seen or heard from the artists in BoC has been very positive towards the company. Even when they don't have to, like with instagram comments or multiple interviews about them discussing the environment there.
And believe me, I've listened to enough interviews and i've written enough answers for artists to know that there are ways one can express displeasure without saying it directly. Or even staying neutral.
Is there any data or information about how much artists make from such commitments, which take multiple hours and sometimes even the whole day? Or is there any relevant data that's such activities actually help significantly promote them longterm?
To be clear, I'm not saying trents don't help. I do definitely think, if an artist has a product to promote, that they are valuable. And am all for getting a bag of money in exchange of 1 day of work.
But in the case of Barcode (as he is the one I mainly follow), the only long time we didn't see any work related activity is in 3 weeks of March. After that he shot at least 3 YT programms for the company and is working on music with Jeff. And before that he wasn't posting on his YT or TT at all, which I count as mainly his channels, not the company's, so that tells me he maybe didn't have the energy for that? With school, the tour and then the military camp.
So my question is, why are advertizing activities for other brands the only way some fans will accept that a person at a company is working?
Even their superstars Mile and Apo have like 2 per month at most in 2023. And if somebody believes that they can't get more and trend every week, then there is no point in even having a conversation.
Sometimes this reminds me of a group of rabid Taylor Swift fans on Twitter who are so chart obsessed, that anything that isn't the biggest hit of the year, is being criticized by them as being a wrong professional move by her.
So can anybody explain this obsession in this fandom with live sponsored events as being the only and main way ccompanies should work with their artists? Is that valid for all Asian artists? And accepted as normal?
And I can't fail to mention the hilarity of somebody saying stay in your lane and accept criticism while they have posted their personal opinion on the internet and other people have the right to comment on it.
I have no horse in the game and am not a BoC "fangirl", as with any company or individual there are ways I think they could be better, but do have opinions. 😁 And questions about these schedules, as this is the part I really don't get. Thus this post.
