Posting this here too because I've been wondering for a while but what even is a "war god" in granblue considering. Most primals are assumed to have been made for war unless otherwise stated (Archangels, all those experimental ones like Jade and Fenrir, the Cosmos gang, etc) and thus the title seems kind of redundant. How come Grimnir, Shiva, Nezha, Baldr, Athena, Odin, and maybe Thor are specifically called out as war gods?

My best guess is that "War god" is a soldier-like classification, a primal meant to go out on the battlefield for quicker, close-quarters combat as opposed to more defensive measures (Territory-guarding like Rose Queen) or tactical purposes (What I assume primals like Sharom or Akasha were intended for) and gifted with higher intelligence for spur-of-the-moment decisions, thus why they all are humanoid and capable of human communication.

This of course makes me wonder what makes Alexiel not a war god. Is she one and it just hasn't been mentioned? Some angels like Olivia and Sariel seem to be made for war but are just fallen angels, are being an angel and war god exclusive? Are the Ennead series also war gods? I don't think it's a title most primals had and some chose to discard, since Shiva has no need to use it now considering he goes around granting salvation, but is still referred to as a war god.

Since the story of Granblue seems to be shifting towards "let's kill God", we should get Lucilius. He's the OG, he called it first. He deserves to say "I told you so", once.

Or better yet, we free him because we need his help so he joins our crew and calls us names the entire time. Lucio obviously keeps him on a leash. It's an excuse to get him and Belial playable and I am soft for domestic villains just kinda hanging around and being low-key, it's funny.

Bringing back an ex-antagonist just because your goals align but still having to keep him from causing more trouble is SO funny to me.

Also i want to say, yes. please. first it would be funny, second,

apparently in his FE (< still haven't read it) Lu Woh especially mentions how in order to properly defeat Bahamut he'd need the assistance of the Fallen Angels. Mostly hinting at Azazel and Olivia. Last time i brought it up the convo went off rail bc i misremembered something, but now that we're back in business: If the Fallen Angels are to be useful in the battle against Bahamut, we can also argue that the creator of those Fallen Angels: Lucilius, and the one who helped him put all of this in motion, Belial, could both be useful in trying to prepare the anti-Bahamut team.

Imagine Lu Woh coming up saying "it's time to free Lucilius and Belial. We need them against Bahamut". Imagine that.

i'm also a sucker for the idea of villains just hanging around, i'm thrilled about the idea. Please. Here's how playable Lucilius & Belial can still win.

Man I will say now that I’m looking at Granblue again I think the game’s biggest narrative problem is the writers don’t want to build a lore bible and they don’t want to play with the toys they already have. Which is just another part of the game’s much wider problem where the writers don’t want to Commit All The Way to what they’re writing, except it’s also not because sometimes the writers do make major narrative decisions like killing off Lucifer Granblue or firebombing Pandemonium that they by all accounts do commit to, and the problem is that these major decisions have no impact on anything in the world outside of what the writers immediately care about. and the writers keep setting up cool new subplot threads that they immediately abandon once some shiny big new plot event comes along. It’s been years and I’m still mad that Olivia and Azazel got set up as big important side characters in WMTSB and its relevant content and then the game just. did nothing with them when the time came. And now so many plot events have happened that they’ve written themselves into a corner of “We can’t bring these guys into the plot in any meaningful way without having to seriously backpedal on what we’ve written” that’s led to these problems persisting. Imagine if the game would stop constantly introducing New Things and would instead consistently explore and resolve plot threads it already has. Imagine just how great that would be.

#granblue fantasy #i'll forgive them for this anniversary if it means we get playable lucifer but like #hey cygames. i think you need to backpedal on the decision to firebomb pandemonium. #i need the writers at cygames to understand just how BAD a narrative decision that was when we've got so many plot threads #involving pandemonium and the fallen angels still hanging #they committed to the wrong thing and it's made it really hard for them to go back and fix some of these problems #we need like. a WMTSB Other Side event that shows us what azazel and olivia were doing during those plots and where they are now #give us a pandemonium jailbreak plot or something where those two help break some of the other primal beasts out #that kind of event storyline would work WAY better thematically with how wmtsb3 handled azrael and israfel and sariel #VS just. firebombing pandemonium. because who gives a shit about the people jailed in there. #(and hey cygames..... it'd give you an excuse for Grand Azazel and standard gacha Olivia if you want that gacha cash)
