There was a post here that makes me think that not everybody's had this realization:

On my first GtN read I thought that it was weird and out of character and honestly frustrating that Gideon’s fence-falling cry is “For The Ninth.” It’s the House that took her childhood and sanctioned her abuse from all the adults and mortgaged its own future with a magic genocide. Suddenly burying the hatchet with the other product of Ninth House child abuse shouldn’t resolve that. 

But oh! she is not referring to the House of the Ninth. She is referring to Harrow The Ninth. Gideon is a little bean who’s bad with vulnerability and good with wordplay, and this is the closest she can come to “I love you.” I don't know how to live for you, but I will give you my life, gloom mistress, bone empress, penumbral lady, the Ninth.

daehyun feels so cruelly, irredeemably selfish. it shouldn't be like this. minsung shouldn't be the one comforting him, not when he's got so much of his own shit to deal with. not when dae is so distraught over something so unbelievably stupid. and yet here they are, daehyun curled up against minsung and sniffling pathetically. "i just.....i never make the first move, y'know? and clearly i shouldn't, because..." his shoulders tremble with silent sobs and he hates himself a little for it. "i dunno. i really thought she liked me. at least a little."

and then minsung tells him, in the softest, gentlest voice, that he deserves better; and daehyun wishes (so strongly it makes his chest ache) he'd asked out minsung instead. he would have let him down gently, at least. he wouldn't end a friendship over a stupid crush. but daehyun's not willing to risk it. instead, he wraps his arms around minsung's waist and snuggles closer to him. "thank you," he says softly, his head on the other boy's shoulder. "you're my best friend, y'know? maybe you should find someone for me. so i stop making stupid decisions."
