Pokemon Horizons Episode 25 Review - The Grand Finale Of The First Chapter
Wow, they went all out for the grand finale of the first chapter. Everything’s so action-packed, fast-paced and there are some satisfactory conclusions mixed in as well. Nothing feels too rushed and the build up for future events is present as well. I cannot decide which episode of the Liko and Roy’s Departure chapter was the best, but I cannot deny that this episode was amazing.
Tumblr media
Right from the get-go, everyone’s moving around and battling. Friede gets a battle. Liko and Roy gets a battle. Sango and Onyx gets some spotlight. I can’t believe OLM actually had guts to be able to fit everything into one episode without the need to gloss over important detail like what they did with Episode 23. The Friede vs. Amethio battle finally got a conclusion after four rounds of teasing around. Friede was basically holding back all this time because he’s clearly a very strong and strategic battler. He looked as if he was going to lose to Amethio, but decides to use Terastalizing to essentially get the type advantage and beat Amethio since Ceruledge is part Ghost-type. It’s weird how Terastal can be used in Galar, but I think Terapagos might be the biggest reason for that.
Speaking of battles, Liko and Roy battle Amethio’s goons once again and Liko finally gets an on-screen win against Onia; man, she should’ve gotten that on-screen win back in Episode 5—THAT WAS TWENTY EPISODES AGO. It’s too bad that they could only knock out Golduck as the battle against Zirc’s Rhydon was postponed due to Sango and Onyx’s arrival. Had they stayed a bit longer, Roy could’ve gotten his first win against Zirc too. Oh well, at least the kids are finally improving. Also, I’m surprised that Liko knows how to use a Pokeball as she finally returned Hatenna back to her Pokeball four episodes after her capture.
Sango and Onyx are very formidable enemies. They were not clowning around at all, despite them getting beaten by Captain Pikachu of all Pokemon. Cap shows that even if Friede isn’t with him, he can still move around independently, as shown back in Episode 22 and now this episode. Onyx shows that he does not seem to care about the safety of wild Pokemon as his Garganacl’s Salt Cure had gotten to them; his Garganacl is also the first Pokemon to use Wide Guard in the anime. In contrast to Sango, Onyx is very composed and only lashed out at her when she was getting reckless. On the other hand, Sango is a gremlin. She can be very impatient and hot-tempered. The faces she make easily stole the show, especially since she was yelling at Captain Pikachu—they share the same voice actress, so it’s basically Ikue Otani screaming at herself. The fact that she makes her Glalie use Self-Destruct was clearly something I wasn’t expecting and I commend the writers for being a bit creative with the move choices for the villains’ Pokemon.
Other than the amazing action scenes, world building is also implemented here as Diana reveals three important things in this episode:
She is shown to have Lucius’s diary and an ancient belt in her possession, most likely belonging to Lucius.
She reveals that the Explorers were once Lucius’s companions, meaning he had human companions during his travels. If Terapagos was angry at Amethio, that means the Explorers had betrayed him or they turned over a bad leaf later on? This really intrigues me.
She reveals the identities of the remaining Hero Pokemon. Lucius companions are: the black Rayquaza, Arboliva, Galarian Moltres, Lapras, Kleavor, and Entei. These are very interesting choices, especially Kleavor. How will Kleavor and Hisuian Pokemon be implemented into the story? Will they implement what the Teal Mask DLC introduced to the universe and have it so that the Hisuian Pokemon aren’t extinct but off in distant lands to preserve their species? I’m very curious to see how the last three Hero Pokemon will be introduced and which regions it will take place in.
The way everything played out here really makes me hyped for the next chapter in the Rising Volt Tacklers’ adventure. I want to unravel these mysteries as much as they do! I’m super excited for what future episodes will show! What are your thoughts to the grande finale of the first chapter?

golden week: toyama & tateyama-kurobe alpine route
april 29-may 2, 2022
>> tateyama-kurobe alpine route photos <<
>> toyama photos <<
>> see all golden week 2022 posts <<
i’ve always really loved seeing mountains. i couldn’t tell you why, just that when there’s a snowcapped peak in sight i can’t stop staring at it! that’s one of the reasons why going to toyama was at the top of the list for me. toyama is one of several prefectures in an area known as the roof of japan, because the northern japanese alps are located around there.
the one thing i’ve been yammering on about for YEARS has been the tateyama-kurobe alpine route. i feel like not a lot of people outside japan and outside the mountaineering world really know about it. i certainly didn’t know about it when i first arrived in japan. but once i learned about it i realized i really really wanted to do it. this golden week trip involves several places and activities, but it’s really about this: tateyama-kurobe alpine route.
i went into this trip wanting to go almost all the way through. the route is a series of various transportations linked up to take you up a 3,000m+ mountain and through it to the other side, into nagano. by going through this route you can see a lot of natural beauty. at bijodaira you can see beautiful forests and 1,000+ year old cedar trees. at midagahara you can walk around alpine wetlands and see various types of flowers and an ancient caldera. at murodo you can walk the snow wall, with snow on either side packed up to 20m, or go hiking. you can keep going to kurobe dam, which i think is the highest altitude dam in japan. it’s a lot of beautiful scenery and natural wonders to experience.
however i really messed up because i didn’t realize you could buy advanced tickets for the various types of transportation you need to get up the mountain, and by the time i did realize it, all of the tickets were gone. i did manage to find that they were selling extra tickets and i snatched some up, but there were a few days of depressed wallowing lol.
anyway i got to toyama by train because i hate flying, and i wanted to appreciate japan’s scenery as much as i could. the first day of my vacation was dedicated to travel and settling in.
the second day in toyama i woke up at 4am and headed to tateyama by train for about an hour. it was crowded with people even at that time of day. my bus up tateyama was at 7am and it was pretty scary. i’m not a big fan of heights. but the scenery was beautiful. we drove through a beech forest and the bus slowed down for important places like the biggest cedar tree. as we climbed up higher the snow got higher and everything was sparkly and white and beautiful, and we ended up above the clouds which meant the sky was clear and sunny. it was kind of perfect. i hung out in murodo for a while and walked along the snow trail, and then it was time to walk the snow wall route, or yuki-no-otani. the snow that day was 18m high, or about 65 feet. people were there to take photos of you at the highest point, which was really cool. there’s just something about seeing super tall snow that i can’t describe?? i took the walk back via panorama road, which is basically just a trampled down snow trail on the edge of the mountain. didn’t realize how much of a climb it was because it certainly didn’t look like one, but my fitbit says i climbed 56 flights of stairs LOL.
my original plan had been to go on past murodo and see kurobe dam, but when i finished with the yuki-no-otani i felt satisfied and ended up going back down the mountain. this time i was able to get normal tickets instead of the special extra tickets, so i got to experience the cable car at bijodaira too, which was scary and cool.
by the time i got back to toyama it was about 2:30pm, so i took a short rest and then explored a little bit of the area -- castle ruins park and some shops and a bit more of the station and what it has to offer.
my third day in toyama i visited a shrine to get my goshuin and then took a day trip to nagano. it poured rain, so i didn’t do much other than that. i did manage to try toyama black ramen though, which was interesting! not my cup of tea, but it wasn’t bad. it looks super salty because it’s a dark soy sauce broth, but it’s really pretty light.
overall i had a really nice time in toyama. it was one of the coolest thing i’ve done in japan, and actually i’m thinking about coming back in summer next year as a sort of last hurrah before going home. tateyama-kurobe alpine route is beautiful in the snow, but they say experiencing it in summer is even better because you can more freely walk around and the plants are thriving and stuff. so maybe!

Kyra’s Top Albums of 2020 🎧
Tumblr media
Despite a tragically hectic year, some of my favorite artists managed to release some phenomenal projects in 2020. Here are my top picks (in no particular order):
Tumblr media
Girl Eats Sun—Hope Tala • R&B
Tala’s third EP is a picnic on a Spring evening—breezy and warm. I absolutely adored her first two projects, so it’s been a joy hearing how she’s continued to develop her unique style. On Girl Eats Sun, she masterfully serenades you through the different phases of love from dizzying happiness to aching longing. The little things are what elevate this project, from the strings on the wistful Easy to Love Me to Sky’s high-pitched, flowy vocals on the chorus of Mulholland, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my special appreciation for when Tala’s pitch dips and she’s in that pleasant moment between rapping and singing—hello verse two of All My Girls Like to Fight. Despite the title, Tala’s latest project brings the sunshine out for me every time I listen.
Tumblr media
Ungodly Hour—Chloe x Halle • R&B
If you somehow managed to miss Chloe x Halle being the darlings of R&B this year, then please allow me to be your introduction to one of 2020’s few must-listen albums of the year. There’s no other way to describe Ungodly Hour than as a treat for R&B fans: from the variety of tempos (there’s the breathtakingly beautiful ballad Wonder What She Thinks of Me as well as the certified party bop Do It), to the timely range of topics from relationships to self-love (the lyric “I had to learn to love me lately” felt especially pertinent in a year without the usual social distractions); the album takes you on a ride. And of course, the whole time you’re wrapped in the surreal pleasure of their talent for unique harmonizations. If you’ve yet to queue this project on your streaming account, do it.
Tumblr media
Holy Cow—All Cows Eat Grass • Electronic
Now here’s a group I’ve missed! ACEG projects always excel at layering dreamy synths with smooth beats, and Holy Cow fits right into the herd. One of their slower projects, tracks like Fly and Pillow Talk would easily fit into a summertime playlist with their simple, fun melodies. There’s also great storytelling in the lyrics of this project from the palpable excitement of the VIP section of a nightclub on About Us to the visceral shock of hearing “thank you” in response to “I love you” in a complicated relationship on Pretty Ladies—ouch. There are so many melodic gems on this 35-minute project; welcome to the pasture.
Tumblr media
Ice Cream Clones—ROMderful • R&B
I must admit I was late to the party that is ROMderful’s music. I first encountered ROM last year via Twitter where he would post short clips of miniature duplicates of himself playing the various instruments of the track; the full videos can often be viewed on his YouTube channel. Since then, I’ve been enjoying the pleasant rabbit hole that is his Soundcloud (he’s had releases on Soulection) and production credits (he’s worked with artists like DUCKWRTH and Rayana Jay). A talented multi-instrumentalist, ROM’s music is full of fun sounds and soulful melodies, and his social media presence is just as joyful (his current Twitter name is ROMderTHICC). This project is full of very short tracks with infectious hooks. It’s a quick listen, but one I’ve returned to often.
Tumblr media
Rumble Pack—Button • R&B
Button is the collaborative union of Allen Love and Bobby Earth—one of my absolute favorite independent R&B artists, and the reason I gave this project a listen. I’m very glad I did. Rumble Pack is brilliantly bizarre: funky synths, blazing features, all interspersed with random gaming commentary. Fans of The Jet Age of Tomorrow (Pyramid Vritra and the Internet’s Matt Martians) and ROMderful (who has a Rumble Pack feature) will surely appreciate the groovy eccentricity of this one. Thanks to this fun, soulful project, I’ve decided I may be a video game fan after all.
Tumblr media
Cosmic Lips—Momocurly • Smooth Jazz
If the phrase ‘easy, breezy, beautiful’ were an album, this would be it! Momocurly is Japanese pianist and vocalist Momo Otani and French guitarist Christophe Pannekoucke. Together the two crafted an exquisitely mellow medley of melodies. Cosmic Lips is everything I enjoy in jazz: relaxing, mid-tempo and smooth. Otani’s voice is unique, high and light, and she glides over the tracks like Pannekoucke’s guitar. This project transports, it’s otherworldly.
Tumblr media
with HER - EP—Crush • K*R&B
Because I believe Crush is one of the most talented R&B crooners making music right now, I was completely unsurprised to find that his latest project is smooth and soulful. Only five tracks, it’s a short one, and the concept is incredibly cute—each track is a duet with a different woman vocalist comprising a project of unique love ballads. The different vocalists mean each track has a unique sound and lyrically the project is full of heart-warming quotables and seductive one-liners. with HER is a project to fall in love to.
Tumblr media
DPR ARCHIVES—DPR Live, DPR Ian, & DPR Cream • K*Rap/K*R&B
Ahh DPR, the eye candy that makes ear candy. DPR, initialism for Dream Perfect Regime, a South Korea-based art collective, blessed fans with this collection of both new and previously released tracks from DPR Live, DPR Ian, and DPR Cream. Though they collaborate extensively, each artist has a distinct sound that diversifies the collection overall—where I would call DPR Ian a pop artist, I’d call DPR Live a Rap/R&B artist, and then there’s DPR Cream whose contributions are purely instrumentals ranging from smooth and R&B-tinged to piano solos. For fans or those dipping their toes in for the first time, the ARCHIVES offer much to enjoy. (Also watch some DPR videos if you haven’t yet, both the men and the art are exceedingly visually pleasing.)
Tumblr media
Peace Is Not a Dream—Senpu & ROMderful • R&B
And ROM makes another appearance! This time on a collaborative project—he has quite a few and I’ve enjoyed them all so far. Senpu, who I am less familiar with, contributes production and vocals to this project. Unlike Ice Cream Clones, these tracks feel more fully fledged out, with a verse or two in addition to the chorus. Between the memorable melodies and vocal harmonizations this project is certainly dreamy.
Tumblr media
Rare Changes—Mayer Hawthorne • Soul
If you know anything about me, you know Hawthorne is one of my favorite blue-eyed soul artists, and Rare Changes is a lovely retro addition to his catalog. This album is from the seventies, I’m convinced: from the mid-tempo disco grooves to the doo-wop style background vocals. Rare Changes demonstrates Hawthorne’s adeptness at balancing nostalgia with the best parts of modern music, queue this one for a mellow night of slow dancing and slow sipping.
Honorable Mentions (there’s some bops here, but overall the project didn’t move me):
Tumblr media
It Is What It Is—Thundercat • Funk
Whimsical & free-flowing as is his style; lyrically musing & haunting, the last track is an absolute clincher to the project.
The Slow Rush—Tame Impala • Alternative
If age-ripened weariness had a soundtrack you could bop to at a festival; Breathe Deeper instantly brings a smile to my face.
Shabrang—Sevdaliza • Alternative
Sevdaliza is one of the few artists who consistently leaves me breathless—her art is daring, thought-provoking, and absurdly beautiful. Shabrang is no different in its presentation and lyricism, though it is musically more traditional than I might expect.
Sin Miedo—Kali Uchis • Reggaeton
I already think Spanish is a beautiful language but Kali just makes it even more so. I’m not the biggest fan of reggaeton (I’m sorry to say it starts to sound repetitive to me after awhile) but the slower songs on this project are lovely: R&B melodies with her breathy, unique vocals. I definitely enjoyed the listen!
SLINGBAUM ONE—Slingbaum • Experimental Jazz
Voyage-19—Bilal x HighBreedMusic • Experimental Jazz
For fans of experimental jazz, get into SLINGBAUM ONE and Voyage-19, both projects are odd in the best sense: more about vibes and transitions than the traditionally cohesive album—I bought both and I’m still enjoying exploring them.
SAWAYAMA—Rina Sawayama • Pop
Future Nostalgia—Dua Lipa • Pop
Pure pop is not my usual fare, but SAWAYAMA, a fun, dance project is truly special—it is genre melting and Rina’s strong voice transforms to expertly complement each new vibe. Also, PLEASE watch the video for XS, it was one of the few things that energized me this year. And then there’s Future Nostalgia, a fun disco-inspired project. Only a couple of the bass lines & melodies caught my ear, but the visual/aesthetic roll out was spectacular.
The Album—Teyana Taylor • R&B
This was my first time sitting down to try a full Taylor project, and while I overall found the tracks repetitive, The Album has some bass lines I enjoyed and Taylor’s voice is beautiful.

助けて!  Lost!
Please, help my sister find her childhood best friend!
Growing up in Sapporo; Hokkaido, Japan; my sister Gerda had the best friend: Rie-chan (top). Rie was a friend from kindergarden. Rie and my sister were practically glued to each other until tragedy struck in 1989 when we had to leave the country.
Tumblr media
Together, they had packed for Rie as well to make sure she'd have what was necessary to come with us. When the 2 girls realized Rie had to stay? Tears! Our mothers had to physically pull the girls apart!
GIF by devolfallenseraph
Now comes my plea: Can anyone help us find Rie?
We lived on "札幌 市 中央 区 宮ケ丘 3 丁目 4−12 (3 Chome-4-12 Miyagaoka, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 064-0959, Japan)" in Sapporo - just by the Hokkaido Shrine/Temple. Rie and her family moved from the smaller street to a house in the suburbs a few years after we left.
This is the street where they lived while we were there (might even have been the house with the red roof, but I’m not sure):
Tumblr media
The girls would often go straight home to one or the other after having spent a day at kindergarten - Otani Dai-Ichi Yochien in Sapporo (which might not exist anymore? I know Dai-Ichi means #1, so in theory this could be the actual address, but no luck when googling it).
Here’s a picture of Rie and her mother (I don’t know her name and I can’t find it in the scrap books!).
Tumblr media
PLEASE HELP US!

Good Lord, was this a great pro wrestling show! It ran the emotional gamut and gave us trememendous matches aplenty, this was as close to perfect as a wrestling event gets in my opinion. After two very decent, but very brief, pre-show tags featuring a nice mix of Young Lions and NJPW Dads, the main show kicked off with the first of Jushin Thunder Liger’s retirement bouts. I loved this, and whilst I wouldn’t say it was a “great” match, per say, everyone brought their working boots to make Liger’s farewell feel special, and they certainly succeeded. It was also great just to see some of these guys in the ring. The 40,000 plus in attendance were super into this, with Liger’s exchanges with Otani (who are two of my favourite workers ever) being the highlight. Everyone looked good here. Well, as good as some of them are going to look in 2020. Naoki Sano hit a big tope suicida, which was initially frightening, but was great to see, 66 year old Tatsumi Fujinami hit everyone with his patented Dragon Screw Leg Whip, and The Great Sasuke nearly killed himself twice on a Senton Atomico, before the ever-selfless Liger stared at the lights for a Taguchi Dodon at 8:52 of a super fun outing. Liger shook hands with everyone in the post match. It’s going to be sad watching Liger go, I can tell you.
ZSJ submitted BUSHI with the Jim Breaks Special at 8:39 of a really good LIJ vs. Suzuki-gun 8 man. Zack and SANADA’s exchanges were the standout, hyping their British Title Match tomorrow, which should be excellent. Hirooki Goto pinned Yujiro with the GTR in another decent 8 minute multi-man. This was fun, but forgettable stuff with Ishii hitting a big vertical suplex on Fale getting the biggest pop. The WTL winners Juice Robinson and David Finlay defeated GOD to win the IWGP Tag Titles in yet another good outing. Finlay got the pin on Tama Tonga after an Acid Drop to win the belts. This was a feel good win, and anything that appears to shake up that ultra-stale tag division is a positive in my eyes. Next up, Lance Archer and Jon Moxley squared off in an excellent Texas Death Match for the US Title. This was a hard-hitting brawl which used the stipulation effectively, and featured a lot of plunder, some great brawling, and fortuitous hard-way juice. After surviving a Blackout onto four chairs, and a plastic bag induced EBD Claw, Mox hit a massive Death Rider DDT off the apron, through two tables, to regain the championship he never actually lost, at the 14:26 mark, when Archer couldn’t answer the 10 count. Great stuff here. In the post match, Moxley promised to beat Juice Robinson tomorrow.
In what was a truly exceptional Junior Heavyweight Championship battle, Hiromu Takahashi overcame certain defeat, and won his precious “belt-san” back, in a sublime match with Will Ospreay. This had it all; sky-high emotional stakes, a great story and fantastic action. It also featured one of the most creative sequences I’ve ever seen in a match, when Ospreay went for the Sasuke Special, but Hiromu caught him and tried a German suplex on the floor, but Will flipped out onto his feet. He then charged at Takahashi, who countered into an overhead belly to belly throw, but Ospreay jumped through the ropes, doing a roll back into the ring, then finally hitting the Sasuke Special in a mind-blowing spot. The story here was Ospreay continually working over Hiromu’s neck (hitting several worrying double stomps to the back of his head), who did a tremendous sell-job throughout. Ospreay got a believable near fall with the Oscutter, which lead into the hot closing stretch. After scoring a near fall with a Canadian/Mexican Destroyer, Hiromu tried Time Bomb, but Will escaped, hits the hook kick and tries Stormbreaker, but Takahashi counters, and runs straight into a Spanish Fly for another near fall. Hidden Blade connects, which Hiromu sold beautifully, then Ospreay tried Stormbreaker again, but Hiromu reverses into a Code Red for a great near fall. Hiromu battles back, hitting Time Bomb, but Ospreay kicks at two to a massive pop. A lariat follows, then Hiromu hits his new finish; a leg capture Emerald Flowsion, which is tentatively being called Time Bomb II, to end a fab match at 24:33, and the win the belt. This was a fantastic comeback story, as the Junior Ace returns from a potential career ending injury and reclaims his throne. This had high expectations going in, but far exceeded them, and here’s hoping this signifies Ospreay’s jump to Heavyweight full-time as he’s realistically done all he can do in the Juniour division.
This left the Intercontinental Title outing between White and Naito with an awful lot to follow. They had an excellent pro wrestling bout that was completely unlike the match that preceeded it, but told just as good a story. Unfortunatley, as good as the match was, at 33:54, it was much too long, which hurt it somewhat. Jay destroyed Naito’s knackered knees, which will be the story of these two shows, but Naito made a valiant comeback, hitting a tope rope Frankensteiner, and Gloria for a near fall. He goes for Destino, but Switchblade slumps to the mat to prevent it, then shoves Naito into Red Shoes for the prerequisite ref bump. This was Gedo’s cue to run in, but Naito sent him packing with a low blow, but Jay hits a low blow of his own, goes for Blade Runner, but Naito hits a Dragon Suplex. Gedo in again, this time with a chair, but is again sent packing. White throws the abandoned chair into Naito’s face however, which he takes full force, then takes the Sleeper Suplex. Naito hits a Destino out of nowhere for the double down, then hits a reverse rana and another Destino for a great near fall. Naito tried another Destino, but Jay counters into a Blade Runner attempt, but Naito reverses that into Valentia, then hits another Destino to win the belt, and head into the winner-takes-all match tomorrow. I will say that one thing New Japan do really well is protect finishers. Whenever White went for Blade Runner, the crowd, who were 100% behind Naito, gasped in horror every time, as if Jay hits the move, the match is over.
Which brought us to the main event, which was the best match of the night, very probably the best match of the entire year (I’m aware we’re only 4 days in), and one of the best matches I’ve ever seen. Both guys came out in new gear, with Okada looking like a God in his entrance, so you knew this was going to be special. It started slow but built into an absoulutely epic match. Okada hits the dropkick off the top to the floor, then his big dive over the barricade, then in the ring locks on Red Ink, a move he hasn’t used in forever, showing he’s going to the old tricks drawer to try and beat Ibushi, who of course beat him in the G1. Ibushi escapes a Rainmaker attempt and tries a Moonsault dropkick, (which saw him land right ontop of his head), but Okada catches him in a Tombstone, only for Ibushi to reverse that into a Bastard Driver. Okada tries John Woo, but Kota counters into a big double stomp, then hits the Golden Triangle to the floor, and scores a near fall with the Last Ride. Okada starts unloading with European Uppercuts, but Ibushi no-sells them, getting the “psycho look” in his eyes. Kota starts teeing off with hard palm-strikes, kicks and punches, Okada fores back with John Woo, but Ibushi pops right up and floors the champion with more strikes. He goes for the deadlift German off the ropes, but Okada counters into a nasty Tombstone onto the apron, but Ibushi makes it in at 19. Okada hits Heavy Rain (another old classic), then the German rolled through into a spinning Rainmaker attempt, but Ibushi escapes with a Lariat. Kota finally hits the deadlift German off the apron into the ring, which Okada lands right on his head for, for a near fall, then tries the lawndart, but Okada turns it into a spinning Tombstone. A Rainmaker is turned into a huge Ibushi Lariat, who then hits a Boma Ye, but Okada kicks at one! Another to the back follows, as does a big head kick, then Ibushi nails Kamigoye, but again the champion gets the shoulder up at 2.999 as the Dome goes crazy. Ibushi drops the knee pad and tries another, but Okada counters into an amazing dropkick. Okada escapes a top rope Tiger Driver and attempts a missile dropkick, but Ibushi catches him in a sitout powerbomb for a great near fall, then goes up top for the Phoenix Splash, but Okada moves. Okada hits a spinning Rainmaker, then another Rainmaker, but Ibushi kicks out as the crowd goes crazy. Ibushi counters another Rainmaker attempt with another big head kick, then hits a V-Trigger. He goes for Kamigoye again, but Okada counters into a Fire Thunder Driver, then hits Rainmaker to end an absolutely outstanding match at the 39:16 mark. This was just exceptional stuff that perfectly played off spots in all of their previous meetings.
Naito came out in the post match and he promised to win tomorrow, saying its his perfect chance to beat him at the Dome. I’m amazed Okada is even able to go tomorrow after this match. Okada says “no chance”, and thanks Ibushi. He also says he wants even more people in the Dome tomorrow to see the double Title Match. I can’t believe there’s another of these shows to go. What a time to be alive.

can i get fic recs for golden kamuy? longfics, preferably,,
Yea, totally!! I’ve already done a few genfic rec lists, but if we’re going with pure personal taste…
club lights by TRANSTOSHI - rated T - TsukiKoi - Basically, Koito’s at the bar with friends and sees Tsukishima on the outskirts of the crowd. This has happened more than once. It’s just that this time, he gets up the courage to go over and actually use a cheesy pickup line on him. A super cute oneshot all in all!!
Catharsis by fizzyspines - rated T - Gen - Canon compliant; basically, during the war, Tanigaki is antagonized by Ogata and then just beats the shit out of him. Rightfully so, to be honest. It works as a gritty study on Tanigaki’s character and, as with all of Fizzy’s fics, is an absolute gem in terms of characterization! Especially with the focus on Tanigaki’s early nihilism- which, quite unfortunately, is never used to a fic’s advantage as often as it ought to be, haha.
Blessed Path by straydogs - rated T - Gen - Canon compliant; this goes over Ogata’s internal monologue and studies his character in the moment when he kills his father. In my opinion, this fic is the only good character study on Ogata and is a direct inspiration for the dream that would become my fic Ice Nabe. There’s no need for big gestures or pretending to care about a child or whatever- this fic is Ogata at his essence, musing as he prepares for Hanazawa’s death right in front of him, watching as his father’s terror slowly mounts and the deed is done.
New Traditions by kickassanakin - rated T - SugiShira - Modern au; Shiraishi hears Sugimoto has a special day planned for Valentine’s Day and won’t be doing things like he, Shiraishi, and Asirpa have been doing every year ;c but he does want to talk to Shiraishi in person first and foremost, for some reason….. Really, this is just a cute lil oneshot that makes light of a little miscommunication, but not in any overbearing way that would have you smacking your head against the wall, haha
Selfish by toxicbolts - rated M - TsukiKoi - Canon Compliant; basically, this mixes a little character study on how Tsukishima sees himself with some good old fashioned romance between him and Koito- and I for one cannot get enough of how heartbreaking and tender it is. It breaks me, how Tsukishima just doesn’t see himself as worthy enough to have things, how he views himself as selfish for daring to take what others offer…. aaa…..
Hajime by edogai - rated G - TsukiGai - Canon Divergent (?). Listen, I’m a sucker for the idea of Tsukishima ever trusting someone so much that he finally says, “Just call me Hajime,” okay. Okay. Listen. Anyway, this is a short and sweet little oneshot and I enjoyed it!
As far as I’m concerned, there’s only 3 longfics worth keeping up with in the tag…
Symphony, ad Libitum by fizzyspines - rated M - OTani - about 30k words - modern magic au. Honestly, I’d recommend this even if you AREN’T into Otani- the plot thus far has been exciting and action packed, with a little air of mystery. The worldbuilding is the best you’re going to see in the tag, and every facet of the magic system put in place, from the mage government keeping mundane nonmagic users out of the loop to Sugimoto being an unclassifiable immortal being of pure lightning energy to how siren song poisons the human mind to charms and magic disciplines, is carefully constructed and has a set of logic that makes it grounded and believable. Even if Ogata is a main pov character, the pov also shifts to others, and you can see that Fizzy is damn good at characterizing every single character.
This is a good fic if you want to see action. It’s a good fic if you wanna see romance (like SugiShira down the line, or believable OTani), or if you wanna see family (like the Golden Trio). It’s a damn great fic if you wanna see Tsurumi and his lackeys as elemental mages who want to overthrow the government, or the Golden Trio as living with Huci in a perfectly preserved Ainu village that remains hidden when it wants to be due to almost everyone being a green mage in some capacity. If you wanna see siren Tanigaki with a powerful voice rooming with a completely mundane and nonmagical Ogata who doesn’t know what in the everloving hell he’s about to stumble into, this is the best fic.
While the romance is a big part of this fic, that isn’t everything this one has to offer- and as someone with some inside knowledge about the next unpublished arcs, I can tell you, the not romantic plot is about to get even more action filled and wild ;) If you have an afternoon, read it all, I beg of you
You’ll be my Lock and I’ll Be Your Key by strawberrycheesecake - rated T - SugiKoi - 4k words - modern day prison au. The premise is a doozy- Sugimoto is framed for murder and now sits in prison, forced to carry out any favors he owes to bigger dogs. Koito is a new prison guard who takes an interest in Sugimoto’s case when, upon reviewing Sugimoto’s case file, he finds many things wildly inconsistent with it and believes that there may be some truth to Sugimoto’s assertion that he’s been framed. If there’s anything I’m a sucker for, it’s a good mystery, and so far the fic has delivered on that promise!
The writing is good and the pace is decent, but the characterization takes the absolute cake- it’s come of the closest to canon that I’ve ever seen, and a lot of the humor is beat for beat what Noda likely would have written. I’m still laughing over the bit where everyone has to awkwardly sit by as Shiraishi painstakingly mouths his entire escape plan at Sugimoto, silently, through the glass. What a well meaning dumbass. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more here!
owo by ogataencelo and PandoraTail - rated T - Gen - 1.6k words - If you say owo in the mirror 3 times, Usami will be summoned to you, or so Koito claims. Tsukishima thinks it’s a load of bullshit until he’s forced to do it.
Yes. I am, in fact, saying you should keep an eye on this one. No. It’s not a joke.
It’s only just been posted, but on premise alone this sold me- a nonshippy fic that focuses on some mildly humorous “horror” where Usami is a weird cryptid? Sign me the FUCK up. It helps that this is certainly the most unique Tsukishima internal monologue I’ve ever read, because it just helps the comedic tone more. I hope to see more of this, all in all! And I mean that Genuinely.
Hope this helps!

Lil, do we serve water with our whiskey?
A NOTE FROM ADMIN C: In a shocking twist, this managed to take even longer than 84 years, but pls love me (and Rhiannon) anyway.
OOC NAME/ALIAS, PREFERRED PRONOUNS, AGE & TIMEZONE: its ya girl brando DESIRED CHARACTER: rhiannon otani HOW ACTIVE WILL YOU BE? always DESCRIBE THE CHARACTER:
Rhiannon is as much a mystery to herself as she is to everyone else. Her outward expression of self is volatile, uninhibited, self assured. In short, she presents as a bitch. No one can get close enough to find out who she was - a queen bee who knew she was in the midst of the glory days that would have to fulfil her for the rest of her life - or tell her who she might be now that she’s a bar dancing, water spraying, no-shit-taking Coyote. It’s an environment she thrives in, her place out of reach on and behind the bar giving her a freedom from the expectations her parents and their teen drama legacy settled on her shoulders, and the casualties that came with it. She’s aware she’ll have to look inward eventually, but she’s not quite ready to acknowledge that she’s scared she’ll find nothing but emptiness, a compass arrow with no direction, a canvas destined to remain blank and purposeless.
SAMPLE WRITING:
Some would say Rhiannon was perpetually in a bad mood, a tumultuous little thunderstorm always brewing over her head, a live socket just waiting for some idiot with a fork to test their luck. That wasn’t entirely the case though, not if they watched her closely enough. She enjoyed her job for the most part, even loved the patchwork of a family she’d forged there, and flourished between the beats of the music she performed to– having long since traded her high school pom poms for bottles of alcohol deftly twirled every which way, and routines on the field for routines on the bar top.
She might not have been a queen bee anymore, but she was sure as hell royalty inside Coyote Ugly. The attention was intoxicating enough that she didn’t always have to drink to have a good time; not that she’d turn down any drinks bought for her though, the disappointment that came when people realised she couldn’t be bought like that only serving to fuel her fire.
What did grind her gears, however, were the type of people she’d left behind. The ones who thought they were entitled to whatever they wanted, whoever they wanted, and whenever they wanted. She’d never been one to follow orders, and the worst thing someone could do to her when she was behind the bar was whistle or snap their fingers at her. She was no dog, but she did pack a hell of a bite. If they thought they were untouchable, they had another thing coming. Everyone on the other side of the bar was fair game. Rumour even had it that the bar’s bouncers were only there to protect the patrons from her. Not that they were ever fast enough.
“Don’t do that shit,” Rhiannon warned some weasel-faced trust fund looking asshole as she set a row of shots out for the people she was serving. It was a busy night, but nothing out of the ordinary so it wasn’t like anyone was left waiting for long. Yet the gestures and the whistling continued to the point that the other girls seemed to have noticed that a Snap™ was imminent.
She’d been warned a few times now that she needed to curb her temper lest she drive the customers away - a hot girl who could kick ass was iconic in concept, until you pushed it too far and the tips dried up and the cops came knocking - but everyone knew that once Rhiannon saw red there was no talking her down.
“The fuck did I just say to you? Fucking clown…” Now he was drumming his hands on the bar, hard enough that it was creating ripples in the drinks she’d just poured and she could hear it over the music. If anyone asked she’d tell them it was his lucky day that she only had a bottle of vodka in her hand to slam down on his fingers and not a corkscrew. Of course, no one could be expected to react kindly to such an action either way, but the sharp grin on Rhiannon’s face let everyone know she was more than ready for it.
ANYTHING ELSE? 1985!!! and potential fc change to sydney park perhaps?? u know im chill with whatever~
