hi belle!! when did you start writing and how did you start off?
hi love!!
honestly, i’ve always been writing my whole life! i knew how to read by 2 years old (the only real achievement in my whole life), and my mom said i’d “write and make” her and my dad books all the time (i’d take paper and fold them in half and draw and write stories and draw pictures for them sometimes, whether they were stories that already existed that i just wanted to recreate in my own way or stories i completely made up on my own).
writing has always been a passion of mine, even at a super young age. whether it’s writing letters (i write letters to my friends a lot, with a stamp and wax seal and everything and i have a whole memory box dedicated just for my letter-writing hobby) or essays or poetry (i actually have a poetry instagram), it’s something that’s always come very naturally to me.
school definitely pushed me to write a lot cause i mean, you have to write a lot for school. but i was always a huge overachiever when it came to writing. i remember that i wrote an essay or short story or something back in the 3rd or 4th grade for my english class and it moved my english teacher so much that she literally passed it all around the english department (to this day, i don’t remember what it was that i wrote, but i remember a lot of teachers really loved it).
i even won several awards related to writing throughout my life:
-in the 6th grade, i wrote an essay that won an award and on the day of obama’s inauguration, i went to this super special theatre with other people who won and we got to watch the inauguration live.
-i went to a private catholic school when i was in the 7th and 8th grade, and i’m not sure what i wrote that caught their attention, but the school johns hopkins invited me to do a bunch of shit with them (it was too expensive though, so i never did any of it).
-i also wanted to attend a private catholic high school since a lot of my peers in middle school were planning to do so as well, but my parents were incredibly poor at the time (my siblings and i were all on scholarships at our current school), so i wrote this letter to the president of the high school i wanted to attend, and he loved it so much that he not only granted me a scholarship or two, but he actually created a scholarship just for me so i could attend the school (it didn’t cover the entire tuition though, and i ended up not going because money was way too tight, so i ended up going to public school instead, which ultimately was for the best).
-i wrote a lot of stuff in high school that won a bunch of shit that i don’t remember (i purposely repressed a lot of high school, sorry lol). i also co-founded the performing arts club at my high school and i not only wrote a lot of short stories and plays for it, but i helped people with it as well. i also took a creative writing class in senior year which i really enjoyed (even my teacher didn’t like me for some reason).
-a lot of professors in college enjoyed my writing so much that one of them got super close to me (in an appropriate ofc, not in a weird way lol), one was super moved by a lot of my writings for class and recommended me to help found the LGBT club for our college (where i met and hung out with the person who actually added the “B” in the LGBT acronym, her name’s loraine hutchins and she’s super cool), and one helped me in becoming a social activist for a couple of years and asked for my help in establishing the institute of race & justice at our college and he also helped me out a lot with my family issues at home.
-while i was also in college and even after (i dropped out a million times and i never graduated cause lol i’m too broke for all that), people paid me to help them write their essays and papers and thesis statements, etc. mind you, i didn’t write it for them or anything, but i did serve as like, an editor or whatever.
if you’re asking about how i started in regards to fanfiction, i was writing fanfiction when i was like, 8 or 9 sgdjfhfj, i’m not kidding, i had an account on fanfiction dot net where i wrote a bunch of fanfiction for an anime i was super into as a kid (it’s called mermaid melody: pichi pichi pitch, it’s so bad but whatever sgdhfhfj). honestly, someone should have called CPS or something cause the shit i was writing was so dark and mature for child sgsjdjfjf, but people seemed to like it? even to this day, i’ll still get emails from the site saying someone liked or commented on a fic of mine (i had this one series that was super dark but people loved it and still ask if i’m gonna update it as if it’s not been almost two decades sgdjfjfj).
i started writing fanfiction for TLOU because i got obsessed with reading it on tumblr earlier this year completely on a whim (i kept getting recommended them on my main personal blog cause i loved playing the games and i was like, fuck it let me read one and i ended up liking it so much). but i was consuming the ‘ellie x reader’ tag so quickly that i was running out of stories to read. eventually, i was like, “fuck it, i have a few ideas of my own, lemme just write it and publish it just for fun.” i was nervous to actually publish my work and didn’t expect people to actually read it, but @lonelyfooryouonly encouraged me to do so (who i was originally mutuals with on my personal main blog ♡︎), so i went ahead and did it, and here we are now!
WOW i did not mean to write THAT much, omg i’m so sorry???? i wrote this all while i was waiting for the bus home from work and i got carried away 😅
i honestly didn’t foresee how far this account would get and how many of y’all would enjoy my works (especially ‘nobody compares to you’, my baby), but i am so grateful to all of you for supporting me and encouraging me to do something i love to do. before i started this blog, i’d been in a real rut with writing (i’d only be writing for my poetry instagram account, but that’s it), but this has reminded me of how much i love to write. thank you so much for the love and support, you guys are literally the best. 🩷

Have I talked about my primary/secondary school experience before? Well maybe I should because I think it's relevant to various things. So basically from kindergarten through 12th grade I went to a tiny progressive school in southern California. I should clarify what I mean by "progressive" here—I don't mean that in the sense of "woke", because largely it wasn't. Concerns like race and gender were mostly just not on the radar of the administration. I mean progressive in the sense of like, the educational philosophy, which I don't know that much about in general other than how it manifested in my own experience there.
There was a focus on learning through hands-on projects and very free-form classroom activities. Up through 8th grade there was basically no homework, and none of the work was graded at all. I had my first experience with letters grades in my freshman year of high school. There was also no standardized testing throughout, and indeed no tests at all prior to high school. There were no advanced or AP classes, as there was a desire to avoid institutionalized hierarchy.
The large majority of the students were there on some kind of scholarship, mostly from low-income families, and the whole thing was basically subsidized by a much smaller number of wealthy families who were dissatisfied with traditional education and wanted to send their kids somewhere radically different. My subjective impression is that the student body was about a 50/50 split between white and Latino, but I never looked at the numbers. There were around 200 students at maximum, though the number fluctuated year by year, and only about 40 in high school (most left for more traditional education after middle school). Altogether it was a very interesting social milieu to grow up in.
Oh, right—"circles"! How could I forget about circles?
Basically, there was a philosophy at the school which was against any kind of punishment for misbehavior or so on. If you were goofing off in class you'd be, like, asked not to, etc., but you wouldn't get any formal reprimanding. If any interpersonal issues between students arose, such as bullying, they were solved through the most hippy means imaginable: getting everyone involved to just sit down and talk it out. Specifically, while sitting in a circle. Thus—"circles". The school had a big emphasis on "social/emotional wellbeing", which basically meant that if anyone was upset about anything it was Time For A Circle. Frankly, I don't know how well this worked or didn't, because I was a social recluse who was never involved in drama. For me, "ok class, we have to have a circle about this" meant "Max you get to go hang out in the computer lab for an hour or two while we Resolve Our Issues". Fun times.
Anyway, there were many things I liked about my experience there. Given my anxiety, and the mental health struggles I had especially in high school, I think the unorthodox nature of the education there is one of the only reasons I was able to academically survive that period of my life. If I had gone to a traditional school, with tests and mandatory essay assignments and whatever, I think I would have crashed and burned and failed every class. As it is I was able to do well, and get into a good college, were I also did very well (side-note: I thought the transition to traditional schoolwork would be hard for me, but actually it wasn't!). Now I am going to fucking graduate school, which I think would absolutely not have been possible had I gone to a normal school during my Teenage Brain Owch Years.
On the other hand, I had various struggles there. The small size of the student body made it difficult for me to make friends, and in general I felt very socially isolated, which probably contributed to my bad mental health in HS. As soon as I got to college my ability to function improved dramatically, and I think this was in no small part due to the fact that I was actually making friends for the first time in my life. Also the lack of advanced classes meant that in the subjects where I did do well be traditional metrics (math) I was still stuck at a pretty rudimentary level academically. Of course this is half of what inspired me to intellectually strike out on my own in these areas and decide to just start teaching myself math, which is how I started learning topology and abstract algebra in high school and gave me a huge head start on math in college. Not sure if I would have done better or worse had my math abilities been focused down institutional pathways; I suppose I'll never know.
So that was my educational experience prior to college. Some good, some bad, but largely I am a fan of the general progressive education style that I was exposed to, especially for young kids. I have retained from that time of my life a strong impression that grading schoolwork is in some sense terribly evil, that it instills a kind of deference to authority that I think should never be trained into young kids, and that a system of education (at least on small scales) can absolutely function without it. I was largely spared from the bureaucracy of school until I went to college, and I'm very glad about this fact. Also the phrase "do we need to have a circle about this" is burned permanently into my vocabulary.
Probably relevant info for you all in terms of getting my deal.

Thinking about and preparing for the SAT or ACT, most of you probably went on your own version of a mental rollercoaster. You may have felt the pressure, then some boredom, maybe frustration, and any number of forms of anxiety. So you’ve finally taken the test (and hopefully recuperated from any dizziness from the ride). Now what? Here are six ideas for where to put your focus next:
1. CELEBRATE! 🙌
Now that you’ve put in so much hard work and took the SAT/ACT, it’s time to give yourself permission to put any thoughts about the test out of your mind for a bit. You’ve accomplished a significant milestone in your academic career and you deserve to celebrate yourself. Many of us are so used to being told we what we do wrong or what we need to do better—by parents, teachers and ourselves–that it’s easy to forget to honor our positive qualities and accomplishments. You are paving the way to a successful, fulfilling future, so right now, take a moment to tell yourself how amazing you are.
2. SEND YOUR TEST SCORES TO COLLEGES 📤
At the time you register for the SAT or ACT, you have the option to send your scores to a few colleges for free. While this is a good way to save money, keep in mind you will not be able to see your scores before they are sent, so it might be best to use these free score reports for colleges that want to see all your scores. Your other option is to wait until you get your scores back (usually within 2-4 weeks after your test date), when you can then choose to send or not send them wherever you want (albeit for a fee).
3. DETERMINE IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THE TEST AGAIN
Unless you are completely satisfied with your score the first time, it is a good idea to take the test at least two or three times, if for no other reason than scores will naturally vary depending on the test day. Regardless of how unhappy you might be with the score, don’t rip up your score report and throw it away. Examine it to determine which areas you could benefit from practicing more. You can also look at your target colleges’ test score averages as a way of setting your score goal for the next time you take the test. Lastly, if you are applying to any schools that offer superscoring, consider retaking the test to boost your score in a particular section.
4. GATHER COLLEGE APPLICATION DEADLINES 📆
As you think about which SAT/ACT date to register for, don’t forget to consider whether you might want to apply early to any college or university. Then check school websites to determine which date you will need to send your scores by and plan accordingly, especially if you also want to take SAT Subject Tests as these tests are offered on the same dates as the regular SAT and will thus limit the test dates available to you.
5. MAKE A LIST OF COLLEGE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS 📝
With all of the attention we have given the SAT/ACT we must not neglect the other time-sensitive college admissions requirements. For example, if any of the colleges you are applying to require letters of recommendation, you will want to give your teachers plenty of time to write them. You will also want to give yourself enough time to craft quality college essays about yourself, take SAT Subject Tests, and, if you’re applying for any specialized programs such as art programs, put together any additional requirements.
6. MAKE A PLAN 📋
To keep track of all these moving parts, try starting a Google spreadsheet or get out a piece of paper and draw up a plan. Write down all important official deadlines—test registration deadlines, application deadlines, scholarship deadlines, summer program deadlines etc. You can also write down personal deadlines such as when you will ask your teachers for letters, when you will start drafting essays, and when you will prepare for any remaining tests. You can also add college visits and any other pertinent to-dos to your plan.
Writing everything down and taking each task step by step, well ahead of time, will minimize any feelings of overwhelm you might feel and will prevent any stress from forgotten or missed deadlines. This is your one shot to apply to colleges, so go all in; it’s worth it, and so are you.

A Dream Come True: Studying Overseas with the Right Prep
Pursuing higher education is one of the most exciting ways to gather life-enriching experiences, explore different cultures, and travel while building a striking, professional portfolio. Even though studying abroad has become more convenient, it remains a tiresome process with the hassle of deadlines, tests, visa applications, accommodation services, and so on. Education consultancies come as a respite for aspiring students by providing them guidance and support to make the admission process less stressful.
How are Digital SAT Practice Tests and GMAT Coaching Beneficial?
SATs: SAT is, at present, one of the most in-demand standardised tests for higher education. Although not all colleges will require you to appear for the SAT exam, most well-reputed colleges have mandated a competent SAT score. While 1600 is considered the perfect SAT score, the average range that will effortlessly get you through the admission process is 1600 and above. SAT exams are also crucial for applying for and qualifying for scholarships.
A General SAT assesses your Written and Verbal skills, Critical Reading, and mathematical expertise. Candidates can also sit for an SAT Subject Test to showcase their skillset and knowledge in a particular field, such as Science, Psychology, Literature, Math, History, or other subjects. We understand how significant a change transitioning from school to college is in a student’s life. Our Digital SAT Practice Tests are here to take some load off your shoulders and guide you through the newness of it all. With our mock tests, videos, and reading material, assistance is available at any hour of the day.
Our abroad education consultants in Delhi have also put together a series of mock tests to help you ace that SAT exam to the best of your potential.
GMAT Coaching Classes: Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a computer adaptive test (CAT) mandatory for application to MBA programs. A computer-adaptive test uses algorithms to tailor the difficulty of questions in real time based on individual responses. Business schools primarily use the GMAT to assess a candidate’s analytical abilities. Your GMAT comprises four sections—
Analytical Writing Assessment or AWA: AWA requires the candidates to write an essay in answer to the analysis of an argument.
Integrated Reasoning or IR: IR tests your problem-solving, data analysis and interpretation skills.
Quantitative Reasoning or QR: QR is what we understand as the Math section. It assesses a candidate’s basic understanding of algebra, fractions, arithmetic, geometry, etc.
Verbal Reasoning or VR: VR will assess your reading skills, critical reasoning, grammar proficiency, and ability to comprehend, evaluate and express.
GMAT is scored in increments of 10, with 800 as the highest possible score. The plethora of information and preparatory resources available online can become overwhelming, making it challenging to filter reliable sources. It is always a good idea to look for abroad education consultants in Delhi that bring you the most competent guidance for your preparation.
These GMAT coaching classes can be accessed in both online and offline modes and guarantee personalised attention to all students.
Advantages of Preparing with Abroad Education Consultants in Delhi
Competent Assistance: The tutors at coaching centres provide just the assistance and guidance you need to go in the right direction. They are familiar with all the updates in exam structure, format, syllabus, and exam strategies. With personalised attention and competent strategies, cracking your SAT and GMAT becomes a cakewalk.
Flexibility and Convenience: Students often refrain from taking assistance from education consultants due to their busy schedules. Education consultancies have become more flexible as they have begun providing both in-person and online guidance. You can choose a mode of instruction that suits your schedule and prepare even from the convenience of your home.
Reliable Study Material: Coaching services are mindful of planning their study material per the official syllabus as prescribed by GMAC. The study material is carefully designed to cover all sections of the exams and provide a quality prep that aims to build a strong foundation by strengthening basic concepts and advanced strategies.
Practice Tests: All students aspiring to study abroad already know how crucial realistic practice tests are. Mock tests aid the students in becoming more familiar with the exam conditions, structure, type of questions, and time management strategies to save them the stress of unforeseen challenges during the actual test.
It is time to expand your horizons, venture into life, and see all it offers you!

I saw this post about people exaggerating what gender affirming treatments kids get, and it inspired this really long rant (that I thought was too long and off topic for a reblog) about kids and gender affirming care
So, when your talking about kids as in under 18, it’s somewhat reasonable (at least imo) for older kids to have access to basically permanent treatments like HRT and surgery
Like, lots trans kids can probably be put in one of two categories, either: knew they were trans at a young age and were able to get puberty blockers, or puberty is what made them realize they were trans, and they will be older before they are 100% sure surgery or HRT is what they want
So, if they didn’t get puberty blockers (which are completely reversible and have few side effects), trans kids are likely going to be at least 14 ish, but probably more like 16, before they are completely sure of what gender affirming care they want, as the process of being 100% sure you want to do something permanent like that is a long one (even for potentially reckless kids), and 16 is a mature ish age that would be able to make a good decision about this
Don’t get me wrong, 16 year old can still be idiots in a uniquely teenage way, but, just as some points of reference for other things 16 year olds (in the US at least) can do: drive cars, get a job, choose which colleges they want to apply to and apply to said colleges, take the SAT to determine where they get to go to college and their scholarships, etc. if we let them do these dangerous/important things, why not surgeries or HRT? In addition to this, people are considered adults at age 18, are we really going to claim there is a huge difference in good decision making ability between 16 and 18 year olds?
AND, this isn’t even taking into account WAIT TIMES! If you’re trying to gender dysphoria diagnosis to be allowed to get surgery/HRT, then actually get those treatments, you’re looking at the waitlist for the physiatrist, then the waitlist for the gender affirming care consult appointment, then the waitlist for the actual treatment, and then throw in a few more waitlist to get into the clinics where these professionals are/whatever else they may make you wait for. When added together these wait times are probably gonna be like 2 years at least, so two years before actually getting the treatments and therefore the point of no return.
This means that our theoretical 14 year old, who now is sure they want to get treatment, has to wait TWO MORE YEARS before getting it, thus making them 16 and better able to make a responsible choice. So at a minimum, the time from the initial thought that a kid maybe wants surgery/HRT to actually getting it is probably at least two years of contemplating, then two years of waiting, for a minimum of four years of thinking and therefore time to change their mind. And if they’ve really spent every day of those 4 years sure that they won’t regret having gender affirming surgery or going on HRT, then that is unlikely to change
So, while I have made lots of generalizations and assumptions here (assuming trans kids fit into either the “knew from young age category” or “realized at puberty”, assuming proper access to puberty blockers, assuming how long people contemplate big decisions, etc) the general idea and arguments are still there, showing how giving trans kids access to gender affirming surgeries and/or is HRT somewhat reasonable (Can you tell the only way I know how to make an argument is in the format of a school essay? lol)

Campus Recruitment
Are you looking to get into campus recruitment? If yes, then read on! There are several things you should know before starting out.
Campus recruiting is a great way to start your career. The job itself is very exciting and rewarding. In addition, it offers you flexibility and freedom. Learn more: https://blog.hirenest.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-campus-recruitment/
Tumblr media
There are certain aspects of campus recruiting that you should consider before jumping into the field. These include salary expectations, benefits, and other perks.
What is campus recruitment?
Campus recruitment refers to the process by which colleges recruit students from high school. The most common way this happens is through college fairs where prospective students visit schools and talk to representatives from each institution. This allows them to see what it would be like to attend that particular university. It also gives them insight into the culture of the school, including its academics, extracurricular activities, social life, etc.
In addition to visiting campuses, many high schoolers participate in online applications. These allow them to apply directly to universities without having to travel to any specific location. They may also submit application materials online, saving money and time. You can find out more in our article: https://blog.hirenest.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-campus-recruitment/
Tumblr media
There are two main types of campus recruiting events:
On-campus interviews are conducted by admissions staff at schools where students attend classes. These may include visits from admissions officers and career services representatives who will ask questions about your academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and personal interests.
Off-campus interviews take place at companies that hire through third parties. These interviews usually involve phone screens followed by face-to-face meetings. They’re typically less structured than on-campus interviews but they still give you a chance to show off your personality and demonstrate your interest in the company.
In addition to the standard interview process, some employers conduct behavioral assessments during the application process. For example, many companies ask applicants to complete online tests designed to measure cognitive abilities (such as attention span) and emotional intelligence. Some companies also require candidates to submit essays describing why they want to work for them. This type of assessment helps recruiters determine whether you’d fit into the culture of the organization.
Tumblr media
How to Build a Campus Recruitment Strategy
The first step in building a campus recruitment strategy is understanding what type of students will attend your school. This includes knowing which majors they pursue, what kind of jobs they want after graduation, and where they live. Once you know this information, you can start thinking about ways to reach out to them through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
In addition to using social media, it’s important to understand the different types of marketing strategies available to you. For example, if you’re looking to attract new students, then you may consider advertising at local universities, posting flyers around town, hosting events, or creating a website. If you’d rather focus on current students, you could offer scholarships, host career fairs, or provide workshops. Whatever approach you choose, remember that each one has its pros and cons.
Marketing is not just about reaching people; it’s about engaging them. It takes time to build relationships with potential customers, so don’t expect immediate results. Instead, think long term and plan ahead. Create content that helps prospective students find answers to their questions, and share it across all channels. Then, keep doing what works best for your audience.
A great way to engage with prospective students is by offering scholarships. These awards help students pay for college without having to take out loans. They’re especially helpful for students who come from families that earn less than $100,000 per year. Scholarships can be awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, community service, or any number of factors.
To build a successful campus recruitment strategy, you must first identify the target market. What do you want to accomplish? Do you want to increase enrollment? Increase retention rates? Attract international students? Or maybe you simply want to raise awareness of your school among prospective students. Whichever goal you set, you should always begin with a clear vision of what success looks like.
Conclusion
If your company has a campus recruiting program, you need to know about it. It's one of those programs that seems simple enough but actually requires a lot of work behind the scenes. In fact, some companies don't even realize what they're doing until they've invested thousands of dollars into it. Here are couple reasons why you should consider investing in a campus recruitment program.
The first step is to find out if your company offers any kind of campus recruiting program. Some companies do this through email blasts or job postings. Others offer scholarships or stipends to students who apply directly to them. Still others will pay for college tuition or provide internships.
Once you know whether your company offers a campus recruiting program, then you need to figure out how to set it up. This means creating a database where you keep track of all the information about each student. You'll want to record things like contact info, GPA, test scores, extracurricular activities, and so forth. Then you'll need to send emails inviting students to apply. Make sure you include instructions on how to submit applications online. And finally, you'll need to follow up after the application deadline to make sure everyone applied.
There are many different ways to approach the process of hiring new employees. One way is to look at the candidates' resumes and decide which ones seem most qualified based on experience and skills. Another option is to conduct interviews with potential hires. Yet another method is to ask friends and family members for recommendations. Shingeki no Kyojin headcanons: 104th training corps (College AU)
Hello, Postmodernbeing here. This time I wanted to write about things that I actually know, since I’m a college student and I’m studing History and Social Sciences I found myself wondering about what would the 104th training corps focus their studies on if all of them had chosen humanities as their career. I hope you find this funny and at least a bit accurate.
IMPORTANT:  I do not own Shingeki no Kyojin, only these HCs are my own. // Might contain a few spoilers from the manga. // English is not my first language and I study uni at Latin America, so scientifical terms/words/concepts may vary. Anyhow, I thank you for reading and for your patience.
Tumblr media
Eren Jaeger
He’s passionate about Military History, not to be confused with history of army. Eren’s rather focused in strategies, weapons and semiotics involved in military speech.
First started with books about great wars in modern era. The use of certain weapons took him by surprise due the technological development.
Then he took classes about discourse analysis, semiotics and such, and felt inspired by the discourse reflected in emblems, uniforms, flags, etc.
Eren doesn’t really have a preference between occidental or oriental, North or South, Modern or Ancient settings. He would simply devour all the books that deal with military strategy and warlike conflicts. Although he has more experience and information about great wars in modern era.
He’s fascinated with the inexhaustible human desire of freedom and the extent that it can reach. This fascination might not be very healthy, he concludes.
Also, finds a cruel beauty in violence when showed in freedom and ideals are protected over one’s own life. But he won’t tell his classmates or professors. He knows is a controversial opinion for he’s still aware the implications of massive conflicts and the abuse of power.
One thing led to another, Eren is now taking classes and reading about philosophy in war and anthropological perspectives about violence through time.
He’s so into social movements besides his main interest in college: “No one’s really free until all humanity is”, that’s his life motto pretty much.
Due his readings and researches he decided it was important to develop a political stance about the world’s problems. Eren strongly believes all lives worth the same, but systems and nations had imposed over others and vulnerated other human's lives.
Yes, Eren is anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist.
Tumblr media
Mikasa Ackerman
Asian Studies Major / History Minor.
She thinks by studying these degrees, she pays honor to her heritage. Specially to her mother. Her family is the proudest for Mikasa is also the best student in her whole generation.
Mikasa received a scholarship thanks to Azumabito family, who are co-founders of an academic institution dedicated to Asian historical and cultural research. She might as well start working when she graduates.
Although she’s passionate about Japan’s history, she has written a few articles and essays about Asian Studies themselves and the importance of preserving but also divulging by means of art and sciences.
In her essays and research work, she likes to employ tools from many disciplines since she strongly believes all humanities and social sciences serve the very same purpose at scrutinize the social reality all the same. Might as well use demographics, ethnology, sociology, philosophy, anthropology, archeology, and so on. For it proves to bring light into questions that history by itself could answer unsatisfactorily (in Mikasa’s opinion).
Even her professors wonder how she manages to organize that much information and pull it off successfully. She might as well be more brilliant than a few PhD’s students.
Tumblr media
Armin Arlert
Prehistoric studies / Archeology
He’s so into the studies about the prehistoric humans and routes of migration.
Passionate about the ocean and natural wonders since kid, Armin believed his career would be environmentalist or geoscience related.
That was the agreement he had with his grandad since middleschool, until he read Paul Rivet’s “The Origins of the American Man” book and captured him thoroughly. The way the book explained logically the diverse theories about global migration and enlisted the challenges of modern archeology -for there are numerous mysteries- simply devoured his conscience.
He knew from the books he’d read that most evidence of the first settlements are deep under dirt or far away in the ocean whose level has risen over the centuries leaving primitive camps – and answers – unreachable.
That’s the reason he is so eager to study and give his best to contribute both archeology and history disciplines. Also, he’ll forever love the ocean and nature, just leave him do all the fieldwork, please.
Tumblr media
Jean Kirstein
History of industry / Industrial heritage / Historical materialism
Jean first started interested in capitalist industries and production development in first world countries. Kind of rejected other visions and explanations since he’d read about positivism studies.
His interest in such matters started when he was a just boy. He often found himself wondering how things were made and that question captured him ever since. As he grew up, he realized that machines and industrial processes were highly involved in the most mundane objects creation.
Nonetheless, he learnt that not always the best machinery was used, nor the best work conditions were available for mass production. From that moment he’d started to read about the First Industrial Revolution and his mind just took off with questions. Invariably, he learned about labour struggle and the transforming power due workforce.
Between his readings and university classes, he’d knew more about labour movements, unions. And in the theoretical aspect, he'd learned about historical materialism analysis.
One could say that Jean possesses a humanistic vision of the implications in mass production under capitalist system along history and nowadays.
Tumblr media
Marco Bodt
Royalty's history / Medieval Studies
I wanted to keep his canonical fascination to royalty and the best way to do that was including Medieval Studies.
Marco would study since the fall of Roman Empire until the latest gossip of royal families all across Europe.
Might get a bit of Eurocentric with his essays but in real life discussions he’s always open to debates about decolonization. He has even read Frantz Fanon books and possesses a critical thinking about colonial countries and their relations with the so named third world.
Nevertheless, Marco finds a strange beauty in the lives of monarchs and he’s interested in study from their education, hobbies, strategies, relationships, everything.
I’d say that his favorite historical period is probably the establishment of the descendants of the barbarian peoples in the new kingdoms such as the Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Franks, Vandals, Huns, Saxons, Angles and Jutes (holy shit, they're a lot).
Because this would transcend as the beginning of his favorite matter of analysis.
Tumblr media
Sasha Braus
History of gastronomy, development of cooking, antropology and archeological studies.
Sasha’s interested in the history that shows human development of food and cooking. She finds wonders when she inquires into cultural aspects from the first farming till modern artistic expressions that would involve food.
Such as gastronomy. But her attention got caught in literature’s food representation too, with its symbols and allegories, also in paintings that belong in still life movement, but also Sasha finds interest when food is used as rhetorical devices (for example: the apple in Adam and Eve’s myth).
She’s curious about primitive systems of irrigation, cultivation, food distribution, adaptation of wild species; as well as the domestication of animals, the diversification of the diet and its link with sedentary life, as well as the subsequent division of labor once the need for food was assured in humanity’ first cities.
Sasha’s convinced that alimentation is the pilar of civilization as we know it. For it involves cultural, artistic, economic, emotion and social aspects. Food is a microcosm of analysis of humanity.
Sasha hasn’t a favorite historical period or setting. But she definitely has a special fascination for first civilizations and their link with alimentation. Also, she likes to study the development gastronomy in occident world around different regions, social classes, and time.
Although, let’s be honest, Sasha would devour (lol, couldn’t help it) ANY book about agriculture, cattle raising, cooking or gastronomy.
Tumblr media
Connie Springer
Micro-history / History of everyday life.
Connie loves his hometown, has a deep respect to his family and traditions. That’s why he finds himself wondering about the most ordinary events that developed in his dear Ragako.
The book “The Cheese and the Worms” by Carlo Ginzburg changed the way he used to understand history and capture him into meaningful discussions about what he learned was called micro-history.
His favorite quote from that book is: “As with language, culture offers to the individual a horizon of latent possibilities—a flexible and invisible cage in which he can exercise his own conditional liberty.”
Once deep into studying the Italian historians and their works, he decided to give it a try, and ever since he’s mesmerized with the mundane vestiges craftsmen that worked in his village left behind.
Connie’s parents are so proud of him and his achivements, but mostly because he became a passionate academic over human and simple matters, (so down to earth our big baby).
His attitude towards his essays and research works truly shows his great heart and humility. Connie is aware that academic works have no use if they are not meant to teach us about ourselves too and current times.
Empathy and hard work, that’s how one could describe the elements that integrate his recently started academic career.
Tumblr media
Historia Reiss
Political History / Statistician
Her father’s family pressured Historia since she was a little girl into studying History just like his dad. For he’s a very famous historian that had made important researches and books about the greatest statesmen of Paradis.
She thought in numerous ways that she could sabotage her career or study any other career without her family’s consent and end with her linage of historians. But she ended up enrolling in tuition and so far, she is trying her best in her studies. Historia swears this is the right path for her.
But don’t let the appearances fool you, even thought she studies her father’s career and the very same branch of history’s discipline, she has her own critical sense and she’s so talented on her own, very meticulous with her research papers.
Definitely wants a PhD about women, power and politics. We stand a Gender Studies Queen.
Her complementary disciplines are Political Sciences. Historia also has a talent for philosophy and owns a diary with all her thoughts about them. She hopes one day she would write a book or a manifesto about an innovative methodology for research and teaching History of Politic Thinking.
Tumblr media
Ymir
Religion’s History / Theology
Just like Historia, Ymir was pressured into studying History. And if she’s totally honest, she still has some doubts about it. Even if she couldn’t imagine herself studying anything else.
Anyways, Ymir thought that she could build her career around topics that she enjoys. So, she finally chose theology for unusual reasons.
Her classmates had grown up in religious families or had experience studying the doctrines they practiced. But she, being an agnostic, found satisfaction in unraveling belief systems in different cultures and time periods.
Albeit she studies in Paradis’ University, she currently has the opportunity of taking an academic exchange at Marley’s University. This only made Ymir more conflicted about her future, for she wants to stay (near Historia) but she’s aware that Marley would offer her more academic opportunities for her specialization.
Nowadays she’s working in some collaborative research paper with some people from Mythological Studies from the Literature department. She’s nailing it, writing some historical studies about titans in Greek mythology and its impact in shaping neoclassical poetry. Her brains ugh, love her.
Tumblr media
Reiner Braun
Official History / Biographies of heroes and great wars.
His mother convinced him with numerous books about great national heroes, but mostly because she knew that would mean sure job to her son. All political administration in every level requires of an official chronicler.
When he started his college courses, Reiner felt motivated and he was actually convinced that he had the vocation. But the more he read the less sure he felt that the academic world was for him. He wondered if he made the right choice. If he did it for him or for his mother.
Stories and myths about heroes have always cheered him up. That gave him purpose and consoled him when feeling down. Or at least it was like that when younger. Reiner truly didn’t feel like himself when regretting his choices, but he couldn’t help it for he was changing in more than a way.
That’s why he decided to experiment with other disciplines and with time he would find joy in historical novels. He would analyze them just as good as a litterateur and research about historical context in the written story AND study the artwork’s context itself.
His favorites theorical books are: “Historical Text as Literary Artifact” by Hayden White and Michel de Certeau’ “The Writing of History”.·
Heroes stories would always accompany him, just differently now.
Tumblr media
Bertolt Hoover
History of mentalities / Les Annales
Intimate relationships, basic habits and attitudes. / Culture
Bertie has always been a much reticent and shy guy. As he grew up, he consolidated his sullen personality, but maintained a friendly attitude towards anyone who needed him. That’s why he thought that the priority in his studies was to be at the service of his classmates.
So, although he was passionate about research and was a fan of the French Les Annales current, he considered his mission to be in the Archive. As a cataloger, organizer and curator of ancient documents.
But the ways of History are always mysterious, and Doctor Magath showed him that other way of being was possible. Before Bertolt picked his specialty, he met Theo Magath, a professor who recently had finished writing a book: “The Idea of Death in Liberio’s Ghetto in Marley During its War Against Eldia (Paradis)” (long-ass titles are historians specialty btw). After Magath ended his book’ presentation, Bertolt reached him. They talked for hours and finally, he felt inspired into pursuing his true passion. Magath gifted him “The Historian’s Craft” by Marc Bloch as a way to reminding him his way.
By the time Bertolt took History of Mentalities as optional class, he already had some basic notions about Les Annales, Lucien Febvre, Marc Bloch, Fernand Braudel, Jacques Le Goff and such.
Being the gentle giant he is, Bertolt finds joy in reading about different lifestyles in diverse cultures. He constantly wonders about the origin of social constructs and the way they shape thinking as much as identity.
This boy is a wonder, he might not be the best in oral presentations or  extracurricular activities but sure as hell he’ll graduate with honors.
Tumblr media
Annie Leonhart
Oral history, about institutions. Particularly, police and justice system in early XXs.
Albeit she got into the same University than Bertolt and Reiner, even shared classes and hopes, Annie regularly felt disconnected from her studies. With time she realized it wasn't due her career itself but rather because of the currents that her professors had suggested her taking. Until now.
Talking with Hitch and Marlow about their doubts concerning subjects and departments it came up the topics of history and present time but also oral history. She’d never heard something like that before. So, that very same week, Annie started searching for information about that.
She ended up with more questions: is it all of this just academic journalism? Or maybe sociology? When we can talk about regular history and when it starts being present time? If she introduces interviews due oral history, then that makes it an interdisciplinary work? Which are the best systems for analyzing data? Definitely, she’ll need help from anthropology and sociology departments if she wants to keep going.
Contrary to her initial prognostic, philosophy and history of historic writing became her new allies, and the text “Le temps présent et l'historiographie contemporaine” (Present Time and Contemporary Historiography) by Bédarida among others, provided Annie another perspective.
Regarding her favorite topics, she wouldn’t say that she selected them freely. They were just practical preferences. For institutions own extensive archives and numerous functionaries. One way or another, she ended up tangled in judicial system and police issues.
With new tools and object for studying, one could find Annie having a blast as detective too. Even if her academic essays focus on institutions’ history and configuration, she’s also working in corruption and more. She doesn’t do it because she believes it’s the right thing, but besides, the thrill of the tea is spicy. Although she won’t admit it.

This is your one shot to apply to colleges, so go all in; it’s worth it, and so are you.

chatting with @pink--and--white about our best boy liam and what we think he'll get up to and here are some thoughts! [guess what i didn't watch that hos that had adult liam in it - shocking, i know - so... grain of salt etc.]
i think he continues to scam his way through school, while still doing well in academics - lip style, only i think he works at it a little more? liam's relationship with school and his own intelligence doesn't carry the same weight that lip's did, so i think he's a little more active in it, if that makes sense. lip really starts to enjoy school once he's in college, but i think liam finds joy in the work earlier. he likes doing well, and he likes when his siblings are proud of him. they are incredibly loud and annoying at his HS graduation.
he goes to college, but again, i don't think he feels the same pressure about the situation. he goes because he wants to and because he can, rather than feeling like his family's future depends on it.
lip helps him apply, and liam writes a killer admissions essay. i'd imagine he goes somewhere at least sort of local. maybe he gets a scholarship to loyola or uchicago, maybe he chooses a state school or community college like malcolm x. he has choices - something gallaghers aren't really used to.
he's maybe not so sure what he wants to study right away. lip helps him pick some interesting gen ed courses, hoping he'd pick up physics or computer science. but he starts to lean towards the social sciences or law, thinking he wants to help people in some way. ian is beside himself with pride.
he makes a lot of good friends in school. he's always been a little more social than his other siblings, less distrustful of outsiders. he goes on dates and gets involved in campus politics. he doesn't get into too much trouble, and he graduates on time and with a laundry list of achievements.
idk what exactly he ends up doing. i bet he takes on multiple roles in the community. maybe he's a family lawyer, maybe he works with kids. maybe a social worker. maybe he runs a nonprofit of some kind. i bet he serves in the local government at some point. i don't see any of the gallaghers living outside of chicago, but i bet he explores different neighborhoods. he does well for himself, but he's generous with his money and never lives beyond his means.
he's a well known figure in chicago, and he launches a local campaign to support poc businesses, artists, and initiatives. he gets his siblings involved, who have all learned more about how to support liam.
he maintains good relationships with his siblings, who never stop telling him how proud they are. i fully believe carl joins him in his world of serving the community - in whatever shape that takes.
he thinks about frank a lot. remembers the better moments with him, while also allowing the more painful times to propel him forward.
now... as for a family of his own? i don't really know how to speculate on that. maybe he's happy just being an uncle, maybe he takes in foster kids. maybe he gets married and does the whole 2.5 kids thing? idk idk, but he loves with his whole heart and everyone that knows him feels that.
THE END! anyone else have any thoughts?

belle’s 2020 tumblr wrap up
Tumblr media
i almost didn’t make one of these because i lost my laptop charger on my flight home to california and i didn’t want to type this out on my phone but after being tagged in so many people’s wonderful end-of-year messages (thank you @sunlightwoo @heartyyjeno @atbzkingdom @chaoticdeobi @xfirebenderx @fairyoftbz and for including me thus far 💗) i decided i had to join this beautiful love fest and end the year on a good note!
Tumblr media
m i l e s t o n e s  (personal and for the blog) ✨
◇ on february 17th 2020 i started stanning (and eventually ulting) the boyz!   ↳ this is important because i had been listening to the boyz’s music since no air era, but never watched their videos or learned the members’ names. after stanning the boyz, i was introduced to my beautiful deobiblr, which is such a warm and welcoming community. i met most of treasured mutuals through this community and honestly don’t know what i’d do without it!
◇ on april 23rd 2020 i reached 1,000 followers on my blog!     ↳ this was very special to me because i have previously reached 1k followers on many different platforms (quotev.com, wattpad, a different tumblr blog, etc.) but after not writing for a long time i was worried people wouldn’t like my writing anymore or that i wouldn’t be good at it after taking a break. reaching this number was surreal for me and it made me realise that i wanted to study creative writing in university, which i am now doing!
◇ on may 30th 2020 i graduated high school!   ↳ i graduated with honours and a 4.0 along with a lot of life-long friends that i had made in the two years i spent at my competitive, college-prep private school. i faced a lot of hardships but eventually got through it and i am a better person for it. congratulations to all the graduates who didn’t get the graduation they all dreamed of, you did something spectacular this year!
◇ on august 24th 2020 i started university as a creative writing major!   ↳ 2020 was a crazy year for everyone and it made picking which uni to go to really hard, but there was one uni in particular that loved my admissions essay and wrote to me personally saying they would love to have me in their creative writing program, which really touched me and interested me in this uni. i’ve always been someone who finds academics really important so i had gotten multiple scholarship offers from different “higher ranking” universities, but i was able to learn what was important to me in picking a school that would both foster my learning and make me feel at home.
◇ on september 21st 2020 i got my first ever B on a test!    ↳ and i was really happy about it. in high school i strived to get 100% on every test and would have panic attacks when i got even a single point off. i wish i was joking, but that’s the truth. i’ve always been a perfectionist and i wanted to have a more healthy relationship with my personal expectations in university. being in uni helped me to pace myself academically and learn to juggle doing fun things – like this lovely blog – alongside studying. i still managed to get all As in my final grades for this semester, but i really loved letting myself get Bs and take breaks.
◇ on october 18th 2020 i reached 2,000 followers on my blog!   ↳ if you read how important reaching 1k to me was, you can probably guess how amazing and emotional this was for me. not only did i have enough followers to fill three of my high schools, but i had made a lot of friends at this point, and that was so special to me. i had also never done a special series to celebrate a milestone, and as i stand here on december 31st with 2,457 followers, i have yet to finish my 2k celebration due to taking a short break from writing. don’t worry though, it’s all coming very soon!
◇ on november 29th 2020 i reached 1,000 notes on a masterlist!  ↳ facade? was my first social media au masterlist to reach 1,000 notes and when that happened, it truly blew my mind. i have no words to describe how special that moment was for me. a lot of people loved it because they resonated with the main character or because they found all the plot twists fun, and i really love that so many people enjoyed it and gave it a chance, despite the general plot being quite common.
◇ on december 7th 2020 i reached 1,000 notes on a fic! ↳ he loves me, he loves me not was my first one shot/fic to reach 1,000 notes and my second fic ever to reach 1k notes, which was literally crazy. so many people have reached out to me about that fic and how much it resonated with them and their experiences, and i just loved that this was the first written fic i ever had reach 1k notes because of the emotional implications.

m u t u a l s 💛
i have so much love and appreciation for you all, it’s unreal. i’m a very shy, often times insecure, and quiet person so i have a hard time reaching out to people. this means that minimal interactions actually mean a lot to me, so please never think that i don’t love or support you guys just because i’m a little quiet. that being said, here are some mutuals who i have gotten to know better in 2020 and a little love letter for you each 💌
@xfirebenderx
💌 nani, you were one of my very first mutuals here on tumblr back when i ulted seventeen and literally never spoke to anyone or interacted with people other than the few anons in my inbox. you made me feel comfortable and welcome here on tumblr, and i’ve always seen you like an older sister figure because of that. your enthusiasm and support are often times unparalleled because you never hold back anything and i am in awe of how lovely you are. thank you for having my back this year and making me feel so supported! 🌟
@chaoticdeobi
💌 bea, you’re such a ray of sunshine and brightness in my life and on my dash, i’m in awe of how much of a social butterfly you are! you were one of the reasons i started writing for the boyz because i felt excited when i read your fics and i was extremely impressed with how immersive your writing was (and still is!). aside from your amazing writing abilities, you’re truly someone who i feel comfortable with even though we haven’t spoken that much privately, and you have an amazing gift of making people feel accepted and at home. thank you for being a wonderful brightness in my life this year! 🌼
@heartyyjeno
💌 alesha, i’ve said this to you many times before but i truly treasure you as a person and as a friend. you are without a doubt one of the most supportive and uplifting people that i’ve met on tumblr, and i can always rely on you to make me feel like i’m loved and a good writer, especially on days where i feel like i’m neither. i know that 2020 has been a struggle for you and i wish i could have done more to support you, so i hope you take this love letter as evidence of how loved you are and how much i cherish you as a person and as a friend. thank you for being my rock this year! 🌷

💌 rosie, you are someone who is very dear to me and i always feel so lucky to be your friend! we’ve spoken quite a bit this year and i loved getting to know you and finding out we stan/ult so many of the same groups! i loved gushing over dark haired eric, seunghoon from cix, and blackpink’s comebacks with you this year so much because it made me feel much closer to you! you’re always one of the first people i send love chains to on tumblr and i just really appreciate your lovely energy every time we interact. thank you for being a caring friend for me this year! 🌹
@stealerz
💌 qiu, first of all your url change is absolutely adorable and i’m a huge fan. second of all, your writing is so stunning and it was also another reason why i wanted to start writing for the boyz this year! you’re somebody who i often see on my dash and try to interact with, and it always feels a little surreal when you gush over my writing because i look up to you in that sense. you are such a lovely friend who i don’t talk to very often because i’m shy, but i feel like you’re always around to remind me that you support me and just make me feel loved here on tumblr. thank you for being an inspiration to me and sending me so many cheerful love chains on tumblr this year! 🌻
@neoskidz (i wasn’t sure which of your blogs to tag so i’ll add @chocolattees just in case)
💌 elsie, i always feel undeserving of your hype and excitement when you comment on my fics or leave me lovely asks in my inbox to sing my (absolutely undeserving) praises. you’re someone who seems very bright and warm-hearted so i always feel comfortable around you, and i only wish i could have praised you and given you as much love as you did for me in 2020. i love when you randomly pop up in my inbox and i love to hear about how you’re doing because i feel like it’s the least i can do to show you that i support you and am always interested to hear what you’re up to! thank you for reminding me that friends can come from anywhere and for always being so compassionate this year! 💐
@deobienthusiast
💌 k, i always look forward to when you reach the latest chapter of my social media fics because i’m always living to hear your reactions to them! i always feel so lucky that you interact with me and reach out so much because i’m shy and it makes it a lot easier for me to talk to you and actually get to know you. i love that we stan so many of the same groups and can always gush about cix and the boyz together, especially when we tag each other under any posts that have to do with blond baejin. you are honestly someone who i feel very relaxed with because we talk so often and have so many of the same interests, i really appreciate your presence in my life. thank you for being someone who i can talk to about my fics and all of our bias wreckers this year! 🌈
@atbzkingdom
💌 dee, i’ve said this before but you’re a literal ray of sunshine to me and you warm me up like the sun with all of our interactions. i always love to hear your comments about my fics because you never hold back and always unleash so much excitement onto me that i can’t help but reciprocate and allow myself to get super hype and happy. you have an ability to make me open up and actually feel excited about my friendships here on tumblr and my own writing, which can be really hard for me sometimes. i’m blessed that you look up to me and i have to say that i absolutely look up to you as well, in more ways than just your writing! thank you for being my personal hype-man and helping me come out of my shell this year! ✨
@lsangyeons
💌 yu, i think you are seriously so damn talented it’s actually unbelievable. not only are you an amazing writer but your designs, sketches and other amazing works of art are just so inspiring and i find it incredible that you’re so multifaceted. you’re always someone who i think very genuinely wants to know how i’m doing and is always ready to catch up and share what you’re working on with me, and i find that really illuminating and fun because you’re so talented. thank you for reaching out to me so often and making me feel comforted this year! ❄️
@fairyoftbz
💌 rosy, i am totally kicking myself right now for not reaching out as often as i wanted to because i feel like we get along well and we could be really close if i wasn’t so shy and bad at keeping up with my asks/mentions. i think you’re a lovely person and i’ve felt so fortunate to have gotten to know you better this year. as i mentioned before, you’re a very thoughtful person and i look forward to getting to know you better in 2021! thank you for being a supportive friend to me this year! 🪐
@sunlightwoo
💌 gina, i adore you, and that’s the absolute truth. i’ve been so happy that we were able to connect this year and become friends because you are a fiercely supportive and lovely mutual to have. i have to thank the kpop gods for getting you to start standing the boyz so we could meet and be friends after all this time. i love how you yell and gush about my fics because it makes me feel like i’m actually writing something people like and not just rubbish that i come up with in my head, and you make me feel grounded and supported, which i can only hope to reciprocate just as enthusiastically to you! thank you for being a fiercly kind and supportive friend to me this year! 🌠
here are some people who i haven’t interacted with much (because, like i’ve said, i’m terribly shy and don’t interact with people much in general (feel free to reach out though i would love to chat 🥺)) but still wanted to mention! i love and appreciate you all for replying to my posts, recommending my fics or just posting really amazing content here on tumblr for us all to enjoy, and that i’d love to get to know you better in 2021!! @1ovejisung @jenoleeaesthetic @thepixelelf @honeycobie @tbzwurld @meltingjukyu @mae-gi-writes if i’ve forgotten everyone i’m terribly sorry but also very jetlagged and bad at keeping track of my friends xx

i doubt that all 2,457 of my followers are going to see this, but i’m going to write this as if you all will anyway. thank you for being here and for caring about my content enough to hit the follow button. numbers don’t mean much and are quite arbitrary, but i still think that it’s amazing that there are 2,457 of you cuties who put up with me. to those of you who don’t follow me but read my fics/like and reblog my posts, thank you. i personally see those things as small praises and/or appreciations for my efforts and i wish i could tag you all here to tell you that i love and appreciate you, but tumblr won’t let me and i think most of you wouldn’t want that either. i couldn’t make a love letter to the people that shaped my 2020 without addressing all of you, so i hope that some of you decided to give this a read. i appreciate you and i want you here, healthy, and safe on this planet. please take care of yourselves as i would love to take care of you. x

Start your scholarship search by making a list of everything that makes you you: your academic interests, your extracurriculars, your cultural heritage, your hobbies, etc. There are scholarships out there for just about any quality and trait you can imagine, so it helps to make a  list of things you might search for. For example, you'll find scholarships based on your heritage or on your foreign language proficiency. There was even this one scholarship for non-Japanese Japanese speakers, the possibilities are limitless.
Check out your student résumé or portfolio. In this aspect my counselor was really helpful and made a list of things that set me aside.
After making your list/brain map/etc you can ask your high school counselor and/or the financial aid office at your (intended) college(s) for their help in getting your search started. You should also look for scholarships offered directly from your (intended) college(s) or university; your school might even have their own scholarship search page or board.
Your future major and career plans are also a big factor. Do you aspire to be a vet? Are you on the pre-med track? Or is environmental science your thing? Look for related professional and academic organizations to see if they offer any scholarships; they’ll often encourage students who are on specific paths by giving them money to help.
Also it doesn’t hurt to check the scholarships that organizations at YOUR country give. For example, in Turkey, Muhtar Kent Vakfı gives out big scholarships (yes, sometimes even 100%). You have a higher chance of getting those scholarships than the international or university wise ones because the pool for applicants is much more smaller.
There are also plenty of websites that let you check scholarships, albeit small ones (nearly all the universities have a list of them at their website). However, someone from my school completed her 55k$ tuition just by getting small 1k to 10k scholarships so seriously try your luck with them too.
For USA, there is also need-based and merit-based scholarships that each school gives. I honestly have no idea what sets you apart from all the other accepted students to get the merit scholarship but I did receive it from three of the universities I got accepted from so you never know! (To see what I did in high school you can check the ask here)
For need-based scholarship, there are seriously so many paperwork to do so get started on it as soon as possible. My friends started on the paperwork the summer before our senior year and was done by October and at least had that off of his work to complete.
On the topic of paperwork, regardless of the scholarship start on it as early as you can. Even before you apply, it will seriously help you relax just a bit.
So now onto some hot essay tips because most of them demand an essay from you. (The essay is most of the times what stands between you and the scholarship)I will link an answer by @mr-entj right here because they summed it up really well and I think there is no further thing to say!! Most of the time you can write any kind of essay if you can answer those two questions in the answer.
Lastly, some scholarships from your country will conduct an interview. Don’t be nervous about it but still take it seriously. Their main goal is to see that their money is not going to waste on a kid that doesn’t have any aspirations or will just spend their time partying and all.
During the interview, be firm about your goals and what you plan to accomplish. Again referring to @mr-entj‘s answer they will want you to answer the two main questions: Why do you deserve the scholarship? Why do you need this scholarship? Make sure beforehand that you have a clear answer on both. If you can try to practice your answers with a friend for these two. Other than that they might throw in some questions that have no relation at all with the scholarship. (My interviewer asked about my coffee preferences) This is just to see that you’re also a person and not just this academic monster. You’ve to be human, this also goes well with the point of being yourself, if you want that scholarship don’t try to make yourself look perfect (don’t do that seriously).
Also be respectful to your interviewer, their impression of you may save you a little bit even if you fail to give a concise answer to some of their questions.
Just one last caution, as I’ve mentioned in the post, if you’re an international student, your chances for most scholarships are lower than local students so instead of solely relaying on them prioritize scholarships from your country.
Most universities/colleges will claim they’re need-based but they find loopholes so have a backup plan (independent scholarships) if you can’t get their need-based scholarship.
I guess this is a pretty neat summary as usual if you guys have further questions my asks/dms are always open!!
