A Question For You Owamiki Week 2020 Day 6
((I’m so sorry for being so behind on this ship week. Things were very stressful this week and I do apologize for falling short. I hope you will still accept this as a token of apology. Thank you so much OwaMiki Week 2020 for hosting such a lovely event! I still have one more story to go!))
Prompt: Talentswap/Injury
Rating: T
Summary: Mondo has a question for the Ultimate Maid, but it’s not a question her talent should answer.
You can read under the cut or at my AO3
Mikan walked into the Ultimate Aikido-Master's dojo. Everything about this place spoke of pride and of accomplishment. Trophies of Mondo’s dojo was framed and placed in a glass case. Pictures of his classes throughout the years were hung on the walls, not a single year forgotten. There was also a memorial wall, where students who died tragically young for whatever reason also had a home here. Underneath those pictures, a black table rested along with candles and incense. The makeshift shrine spoke volumes about his dedication and his loyalty to his students. Mikan always felt it deep in her bones when she walked through the entrance.
She got to the practice arena and saw to her surprise that it was devoid of people. It wasn’t just empty. The floors were already waxed and the bleaches were cleaned to sparkle. The mats were rolled up and put away against the wall, and the mirrors looked polished. The floor was swept and taken care of, there was literally not a speck of dust to be seen. Mikan knew that she could be intense with cleaning, it was her duty and her skill after all, but..she didn’t do this.
So if she didn’t do this then...had Mondo asked his students to clean up after themselves? Why? She didn’t mind the work. It was nice to spend time with him and talk. Had she been annoying and she hadn’t realized that she overstepped her place? Mondo would’ve told her that much, wouldn’t he? He was a nice guy, but he was straightforward and true. He wouldn’t have any problem telling her to back up and leave them alone.
“Oh hey Mikan!” Mondo appeared from the other side of the dojo, his hair undone from the style and a towel around his neck. He was wearing casual jeans and a torn shirt, his feet were still bare. “Do you like it?”
“Li...like it?” Mikan questioned before the lightbulb went off in her head. “I-I told you I di-didn’t mind cl-cleaning-”
“I know.” Mondo gave her a sincere smile as he finally got to stand in front of her. Mikan felt her cheeks rise to a blush, but she stayed firmly where she was at. “I told the kids though that we couldn’t keep relying on you. There’s gonna come a day you’re gonna want to take a break.” She opened her mouth to deny it, but Mondo gently waved it off. “And I want to respect that. It’s not fair to make you do all the work.”
Mikan knew this was a fight she wasn’t going to win. “If I e-ever ask for a b-break, t-then some-something should be wrong.” She poked him in the chest before her eyes wandered to his hands. She went stock still and she gently reached down and took his hand into hers.
His knuckles were scraped and bleeding. “D-did you forget to t-tape your hands again?” She asked, giving Mondo a slight look.
“Nope. I went a little harder than I should on the punching bag.” Mondo said, point blank. She was grateful he wasn’t the type to hide his injury, but the worry still bloomed in her stomach nonetheless. “It’s okay! It’s just a bit of a scrape.”
“I-it could ge-get infected. P-please come with m-me. S-Saihara-san sh-should be in his o-office still. He can patch you up.”
“It’s just a scrape. We have a first aid kit here. Don’t fret so much, babe.” Mondo reached out and ruffled her hair. Mikan let out a small noise as she tried to swat his hand away. “I’ll go grab it and you can patch me up.”
“I...I can certainly do my best to. It’ll be a pleasure.” Mikan was grateful she at least could be useful doing something. “I can find it, you stay here.” She told him as she rushed away from the dojo. Her heart pounding in her chest.
He called her babe. What was she supposed to do with that information?! She liked Mondo a lot, it was probably pretty clear to everyone in their class and his class and everyone around that she had a crush on him. Why else would she go out of her way to try to be around him, and try to catch even the littlest of orders just to do something for him?
She already had enough people poke fun at her for it too. She went into the bathroom where the showers were and found the first aid kit underneath the sink. She was grateful that Mondo at least tried to store it in a place that was cool and dark, to keep the supplies from going out. She tucked the item into her hold before getting back to her feet and going to the dojo.
Mondo was sitting on the bleachers, eyes closed. He was stiff as a board and his hands were resting on his knees. She could follow every inhale and exhale that he was making, slow and deliberate. She wondered if it was his way to relax and keep calm. Well, as calm as Mondo could be. He wouldn’t be him without some sort of brash impulsive behavior.
She approached cautiously, sitting next to him and putting the kit in between them. She didn’t want to disturb him too much. She reached for his injured hand and noticed that it was more than just a scrape. His knuckles were bruised too. If he really did go at it with a punching bag, something must’ve disturbed him or upset him.
Mikan wracked her brain. She couldn’t recall any previous students who died today. The memorial table was too empty for it. It could be about his brother’s untimely demise not too long ago. The grief was still fresh and the wound was still healing. It was plausible, but...he would be more worked up she thought. He wouldn’t have gone out of his way to clean the dojo. He would’ve told her not to bother and locked the door. He would’ve demanded space. He would’ve canceled lessons if they were really that bad.
So if it wasn’t a death, then did a student do something after class to make Mondo’s blood boil? She doubted that too. If a student purposefully weedled him into a fight, then a fight was what he gave. He would show off his spar and his techniques and put the student back in their place with wounded pride and determination for the next round should they decide to bite again. Very rarely though did Mondo have those kinds of students. It only ever had to happen or be witnessed once for the message to come across.
Considering she didn’t walk by anyone going to Saihara’s office, she could assume that there was no students that needed to be tended to.
So it wasn’t a fight.
“You’re thinkin’ awfully hard there.” Mondo finally spoke, bringing Mikan out of her thoughts. “I thought you were goin’ to wrap my hand?”
“Oh y-yes. I’m so-sorry.” Mikan quickly opened the first aid kit and started to rummage through it. “I go-got lost in th-thought. P-please forgive me.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I ain’t upset.” Mondo tried to assure, but Mikan couldn’t help but to feel down. “Whatcha thinkin’ about?”
“I w-was worried.” Mikan said as she started to clean the wound. To his credit, Mondo didn’t even flinch. She wondered if there was ever a time that stoic facade would just drop. He committed himself to be a leader and a teacher. He was careful to show his emotions, but not when he was injured. “Wh-why did thi-this happen?”
“I got lost in my own thoughts. Don’t sweat it.” Mondo gave her a small grin. “I got so deep in to thinkin’ I just kept goin’ and goin’. I didn’t notice till I took a shower. Stung like a bitch.”
“I b-bet.” Mikan agreed as she went back and found medical gauze. She started to wrap his hand carefully and methodically, internally grateful that Saihara was gifted and that he had been willing to show her how to do a bandage properly. For all the trips and falls she took, and all the glass she fell on, it was nice to have someone there to help put her back together, and show her how to do so. “I wo-won’t pry but, if you wanted to talk to me...I’m a good listener.”
“Are you saying that as yourself or are you saying that as a maid?” Mondo questioned.
“Eh? I-I mean if you re-requested me to li-listen then yes I w-would, but I w-was trying to say that I’ll li-listen no m-matter what.” Mikan stammered. She wasn’t sure if that was the answer that he was looking for either. As straightforward as Mondo was, he took some strange turns sometimes.
“I have a question then.” Mondo looked away, and Mikan noticed there was a faint blush on his cheeks. “For Mikan. Not the maid.”
Mikan blinked slowly.
“Do you...wanna get dinner sometime with me?”
Mikan’s lips curled as she finished her handiwork. “Y-yes!” She grinned. “I wo-would love to. I-I’m not s-saying that as a m-maid either! I’ll go out with you.”
It was the first time in a long time Mikan saw Mondo beam so boldly. It made her heart do somersaults in her chest. “Then it’s a date.”

Just Say Yes (OwaMiki Week 2020 Day 2)
((Thank you so much OwaMiki Week for hosting this event! I’m super excited for this pairing!))
Prompt: Birthday/Domestic.
Rating: T
Summary: Mikan comes home from work tired and exhausted and sees a romantic set up waiting for her.
You can read under the cut or at my AO3
It was nothing that she ever experienced before. Mikan came back home from her day at the hospital with bone weary exhaustion seeping into her very core. Just taking her shoes off at the genkan and putting her purse on to the table next to it was more of a relief. Her shoulders felt just a bit lighter from carrying her purse, and her feet were able to breathe after being in her shoes for nearly thirty hours. She took her hair down from the tight bun that was up against her skull, her head throbbing from a small headache. She needed to drink some water, and eat something that wasn’t stuck in a microwave. Just thinking that, her nose caught a scent of food and her stomach growled pitfully as she looked into the apartment.
The living room was dim, save for a couple of candles that were on the table in front of the T.V. There was a vase in the middle of the small table. She also noticed that it was covered in a ruby red cloth. She tilted her head in confusion as she carefully walked over to the kitchen to see Mondo was at the stove.
It wasn’t an uncommon sight even though it was out of place depending on who knew him. Mondo was standing at the stove. He knew how to cook using fire and he was good at it, even if Mikan would prefer him to not do anything tricky like Teruteru. It was one thing for the Ultimate Chief. It was another entirely when her boyfriend didn’t have any sort of skill save for determination and stubbornness.
She went over to the fridge and cracked it open and blinked when she saw that there was a gift wrapped in bright ice blue wrapping paper. “Yo-you hid a gi-gift in the re-refridgorator?”
“Hey babe!” Mondo greeted enthusiastically. “Don’t worry about the gift the cold won’t hurt it. How was work?”
Just being reminded that she came home from absolute hell made her want to go back into the living room and put her feet up. She grabbed a bottle of water that was in the fridge, and noticed a note that was lying underneath it. She took that out with the bottle. “I-it was okay.” She said after a moment. “Wh-what’s with the n-note?”
“You can read that if you want to.” Mondo said, not even looking up from the stove. Mikan appreciated that. Last time he got distracted by her, it had been a disaster. “Go sit down babe, this’ll be done in a bit.”
“O-okay.” Mikan took the water bottle and the note, knowing very well that if she even tried to offer to help Mondo would tell her no and force her back into the living room anyway. She sat herself down at the table and smiled when she took note of the flowers. Daffodils, camelias, peonies. She wondered if it was from all the late work hours that she was pulling as of late.
Mikan would never ever feel guilty for helping people, and Mondo refused to let her even think that way too. However, she knew that she was missing a lot leaving him home alone and sometimes for days. Yet Mondo not once told her that she should leave her job, or even tried to get her to spend a day with him. If anything, he pushed her to go, pushed her to continue to do what she did best, and if anything he liked to brag about her accomplishments in her field.
She never thought anyone would ever...do that. As an Ultimate, her talent was just...there. She worked hard and got good at it for no other reason than survival. Mondo on the other hand saw that talent of hers and thought it was the best thing that she could have. He saw it in such a different light than she did, it made her only work harder to prove to him that his faith in her wasn’t in vain.
She looked at the note that was lying near her harmlessly and she thought about the gift in the fridge that she left behind. It was such a weird place to put something like that. She wondered if it was supposed to be enjoyed cold. She didn’t usually have much use for things unless it was replenishing her first aid kit, or something they both could use around the house. Everyone in their friend group knew that there were never enough bandages in their apartment due to someone always getting hurt when they were out on the job.
Mikan took the note and with trembling fingertips she carefully unfolded the paper. She found it amusing that it was stationary paper, and it had pictures of bandages and a nurses hat and a thermator all scattered about on the border. His writing was short and to the point.
Happy Birthday, Babe.
Don’t forget to take care of yourself. The food should be easy to heat up.
Love you!
Oh. He wrote this just in case she didn’t make it home. Then the lightbulb flicked on and she looked at the flowers and then the note and then over at him in the kitchen. It was her birthday?! She had been so busy, it was completely out of her mind! No wonder everything looked nice. He was hoping that she’d come by but he was completely prepared for her to not be able to come home. She pursed her lips together as she carefully tucked the note back into its fold. Now she understood why it was underneath the water bottle. It would be the very first thing she’d go after when she came home.
Mondo came back with the plates of food and her stomach growled helplessly at the presentation. They both tucked into the dinner, Mikan trying to eat as slowly as possible to savor every nuance of the food. There really was no telling when she’d be able to sit down and have a proper meal with the chaos that was happening at the hospital. She just felt bad for the nurse that had to take over her shift. It was a terrible time, and while all hands were needed on deck, no one was good if they overworked themselves to exhaustion. Even if society and economic pressure demanded it of them.
“Th-thank you for the flowers.” Mikan finally broke the silence between them. “A-and for dinner.”
“Any time babe. I’m glad you like the flowers. That was...I wasn’t sure exactly what to fucking do.” Mondo admitted. “I had Taka help me.”
“T-taka? Of all people?” It wasn’t that she doubted Taka’s keen eye if anything she was more concerned about having two loud personalities in the flourist shop. “Wh-why?”
“It was more or less a man to man thing. You get it.” Mondo sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. “He’s good at letting me know when I’m doin’ somethin’ stupid. Or going overboard. If anything, the bastard thought this was tame.”
“T-tame?” Mikan stared at Mondo. “Wh-what were you act-actually planning on do-doing?!” She could already see how well it would go down if he thought taking her to a bar would be a good idea. Mondo didn’t drink necessarily, but there were times he would partake with his ex-gang. They all adored him and wanted nothing but the best for him. His leadership left a legacy that no one could touch, even when he decided to change careers. Hope’s Peak Academy had hoped that he would continue on, but both Mikan and Mondo agreed that the softer side of things was more their style.
It wasn’t like Mondo completely abandoned the motorcycle. He was just under strict orders to not wind up in the hospital.
“Nothin’ like you’re thinkin’. Promise.” Mondo assured. “I know you don’t like to ride.”
“No-not when you de-decide to go f-fast.” Mikan clasped her hands together. She saw enough aftermath of wrecks to know what kind of damage Mondo could go through and those were enough nightmares that kept her worrying when she did come home to an empty apartment and knowing that he was with his gang somewhere.
Mondo gave her a soft look, “I ain’t gonna get myself hurt. You don’t need to worry yourself too much over it.”
“I c-can’t help that.” Mikan laughed and Mondo shook his head. She learned a long time ago that she had to tame that worry back. He wasn’t going to change too much from the reckless boy she met in high school. All she could do was be there for him however she could. They both had their freedoms. It wasn’t like either of them were willing to tie each other down. Even if there were occassions Mikan wondered and fretted if she was too much, too overwhelming, if she was liked...if she was loved.
Mondo never ever made her doubt it though. Her brain would tease the thought, but he would perish it. “Imma get your gift. Sit tight.” He told her as he grabbed their empty plates and he headed back to the fridge.
She still had to wonder what was up with the hiding place. It was such a small box too. Was it a type of chocolate? She didn’t mind sweets too much, but if it was, then it wasn’t something she could easily share. If Mondo went out of his way to make sure that she couldn’t split it in half with her, then she was going to have to remind herself to do the same for his birthday.
Much to her surprise however, he came back with two plated cupcakes and the gift. “You di-didn’t.” Mikan stared.
“A birthday deserves a cake. I got you strawberry. You prefer those, right?” Mondo asked as he sat back. “I don’t really get the whole “sweet” thing, but...I know that if I didn’t get one myself you’d tear that in half and fucking force me to eat it.”
“I do-don’t for-force you!” Mikan tried to defend. “I sh-share there is a diff-difference.”
Mondo grinned and her cheeks tinted a bright pink. “Pretty sure you tried to stuff it in my mouth and got icin’ all over my damn face.”
“Yo-you moved!” Mikan protested, laughing through her words. “I as-asked you!”
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” Mondo rolled his eyes, but the easy fondness was still there. He gently pushed the small box over towards her and she blinked at the gift. “Open it.” He told her.
“I-it’s very small.” Mikan felt foolish for even saying that aloud. She could hear Mondo scoff and she grinned as she slowly peeled the wrapping paper away from the box, knowing that the suspense was going to murder him.
She could feel the table jig as his knee kept hitting the top. He was impatiently waiting for her to get through the paper, but she liked the suspense that she was giving. It was a little fun to tease. Admittedly, she was just as curious to the gift as he was to see her reaction. She finally pulled the fully intact wrapping paper away and stared.
It was a ring box.
Her heart thudded loud enough that she was certain it was going to go out of her chest. She looked up at Mondo, whose knee only jiggled harder as he looked away from her. A red tint to his cheeks.
She cracked open the box.
“Marry me.” Mondo said gruffly.
“Wh-what?”
“I said fuckin’ marry me.” Mondo looked at Mikan and she felt her eyes widen in surprise. “I’m really no fuckin’ good at this shit. I don’t know how to be sappy. I can’t write you a love poem or...tell you how much you fuckin’ mean to me. You’re not scared of me. We have a good thing goin’ just…”
“Marry you.” Mikan finished his sentence, without a stammar in sight. He nodded and they both looked at each other in the eye. She looked down at the ring box and she smiled warmly as she reached into it and took it out, putting it on her finger. “Th-then I guess I do-don’t have a ch-choice.”
“Of course you have a fuc-”
She leaned over the table, mindful of where the candles were and she pressed a kiss against his lips. “No I don't.” She said as she pulled away. “I love you.”
“Goddamn it babe..” Mondo reached and gently tugged her back down to his lips, kissing her back.
She may have come home exhausted, but nothing was going to compare to the restless night he would give her for this.

How It Starts (OwaMiki Week 2020)
((I feel like I’m just finding ship weeks and just tossing myself at them without really knowing what I’m doing here. Anyway, thank you OwaMiki Week for hosting this event!))
Prompt: Crush
Rating: T (Mondo has a mouth what do you want from him?)
You can read under the cut or at my AO3
“You’re staring again.”
Mondo quickly looked away and turned his attention to Makoto, who was looking like he was trying to hide a smile around the straw of the juice box he was drinking from. The courtyard had a good amount of students scattered about to eat lunch underneath the sun and the trees. Both of them were near the fountain since the breeze carried the mist onto them, cooling them down from the heat.
“Shut the hell up.” He grumbled as he looked back over his shoulder. Mikan was walking along with some of her friends, heading towards a clearing in the courtyard to hang out. Probably to picnic underneath the trees.
Ever since he had to visit the nurse’s office once because he accidently opening his wound during P.E, he couldn’t deny that Mikan caught his eye. She was gentle and sweet. She had a soft voice that was soothing and definately could soothe a scared animal. She knew exactly what she was about, and she wasn’t afraid to tell him to sit down and not move when he threatened to open the wound further.
The unfortunate thing was that Mikan was easy to scare. The poor timid nurse flinched at any loud sound that was made. He noticed that her friends, if he could even call them that, belittled her and taunted her like a school-ground bully. The bandages that were wrapped on her body would always be in different places, but he was certain that someone was hurting her. He wanted to approach her and ask her if she was okay, or at the very least ask if she needed him to scare someone off. However, even that approach could go wrong...because of his nervous tick.
“You can just talk to her, you know.” Makoto said lightly, as though it was the simplest thing in the universe. It was...in hindsight. It was the easiest thing that he could possibly do. Just go up to her, say hello. Maybe control his “indoor voice” as Taka would note was already at a loud volume. “I heard from Hinata-kun that Tsumiki-san is actually very sweet. She’s just shy. Uh...think of her like a frightened puppy if that helps?”
“Are you seriously comparing a woman to a bitch?” Mondo stared at his best friend, who quickly started to raise his hands and backtrack. Mondo’s mouth twitched a little. It was easy to fuck around with Makoto like that. He took things too seriously sometimes. He was about to open his mouth to assure Makoto that he was just teasing when he heard a loud scream and turned around.
The position that Mikan was in was...compromising to say the least. Her skirt was flung over her head, exposing her panties and her legs were sprawled out from underneath her as though she had been tossed onto a bed. Her blonde haired friend was giggling and a lot of the other students were either turning away out of embarrassment, or were also giggling nervously. It raised Mondo’s blood pressure up and before Makoto could try to talk him out of it, stomped over towards the girl.
“Here.” Mondo reached down and grabbed Mikan by the wrist, hauling her up onto her feet and keeping her steady. “You good?”
“Y-yes! I-I’m so sorry!” Mikan stammared. “Yo-you didn’t have to he-help me like that.”
“No probs.” Mondo’s gaze flickered to the blonde who suddenly went still. He supposed the message that he was sending was clear, but so was hers. Whatcha going to do about it. It was loud like a challenge and Mondo wasn’t one for subtlety. “You’re coming with me.”
“Ah-ah?!” Mikan startled as she was suddenly dragged. “W-where?! A-are you go-going to hu-hurt me?”
“What the fuck?!” Mondo let her go, his voice already raised. “Course I’m not gonna hit you. What do you take me for? Some sleazy bastard? I’m tryin’ to get you to sit with us so that your bitch of a friend doesn’t do anything more to embarass you!”
“Mondo that was so loud.” Makoto had a bead of sweat go down his face but he gave Mikan a grin as they approached the fountain. “Hello Tsumiki-san!”
“H-hello!” Mikan stammared. “I-I hope that I’m no-not both-bothering you with my, with my presence at all.” She started to lick at her lips and then started to fidget with her hands. “I t-trip eas-easy so there was real-really no need to wor-worry.”
Both Mondo and Makoto exchanged a look. Mondo would put a good amount of yen against Celeste about who it was that tripped Mikan. He turned his attention over to her group of friends that were watching the scene. The redhead and the blonde were appearing to be arguing. Whether or not it was over the scene that had been caused or what, Mondo didn’t know. Nor did he really care. He turned back to Mikan. “It wasn’t okay for them to fucking’ treat you like that or offer you help to get up. Shitty friends if you ask me. My gang looks after each other, and that’s that.”
“Tha-that’s right. Yo-you’re part of a biker gang.” Mikan looked fearful and Mondo wished he just kept his mouth shut. That 10 streak losing game was going to turn 11 if he didn’t find a way to shut his trap. “Yo-you must deal with a lot of injuries the-then.”
“If you can get him to admit when he has a bruise,” Makoto helpfully chimed into the conversation. “Then I think we’d get somewhere.”
“Shut the hell up. Jesus Christ.” Mondo groaned.
Mikan let out a soft giggle and Mondo could swear he never heard anything brighter or prettier than that. “W-well. I-I think that I shou-should go back to my frie-friends.” She said timidly. “They really aren’t all that bad when yo-you get to know them.”
“If you’re sure.” Mondo deadpanned. “Because I’m not willing to let you go back if you’re just gonna get hurt again.”
“I’m f-fine. I’m us-used to it. It’s not like they ha-hate me. I do-don’t mind.” Mikan grinned and both Mondo and Makoto froze at her words. “Th-thank you again for-for helping m-me out. I’m really so-sorry I cause so-so much tro-trouble!” Before Mondo could even attempt to tell her otherwise, she took off, already nearly tripping over the cobblestone path to begin with.
“Well look at the bright side.” Makoto offered lightly. “You got to have a decent conversation with her without the yelling.”
“Oh. Hell yeah!” Mondo beamed as he turned towards Makoto. “I didn’t fuckin’ yell!”
“Now you’re yelling though.”
“What the fuck do you want from me!?”
They both missed completely how Mikan had turned her attention back towards them when she heard their voices carry to where she was sitting with her friends. A light blush staining across her cheeks, easy teasing fodder for Hiyoko to latch onto.

A Season of Love Chapter 4
((I’M DONE WITH THE SPAM KINDA, YOU STILL HAVE ONE FANFIC LEFT TO GO. THANK YOU AGAIN OWAMIKI WEEK FOR HOSTING THIS EVENT!!!!))
Prompt: Seasonal/Fluff
Rating: T
Summary: Summer festival and fireworks, what more can a guy want?
You can read here or at my AO3
Previous
Why did he let himself get talked into this? Mondo looked around at the festival as he watched his friends go off, paired with others that were in their group. Taka had a girl from another school that he was fond of, and Makoto was with Sayaka somewhere in the crowd. It wasn’t a bad thing! Mondo fucking adored festivals. Especially since Mikan was going to swing by. It had been rough to even arrange the date since her work could take her away at a moment’s notice, but she was using one of her vacation days so that she could at least have some fun without worry. No, what he was concerned about was the damn clothes.
Mondo never was as self-conscious about clothes. He wore what he wore and that was the done deal of it. There was no ands ifs or buts. If it offended someone, or made someone think that he was weird, then by all means go screw off into the ocean. Yet this was a different occasion. He never wore a summer yukata like this. He made sure that it was black, but it still had an ornate design on it, with golds and reds. He felt fucking naked underneath this.
He knew why he felt like this. The yukata and the nudity wasn’t the problem it was her reaction to it. God Mikan could never look bad in anything, but Mondo knew all too well what he looked like. An outsider trying to fit in on the rest of society. He never really wanted to be apart of it. Society’s misfit fit him just fine, and his brother encouraged individuality in his gang. Mondo encouraged it too. Doing this? This felt outta style.
Seeing her approach though made the nervous butterflies disappear and his eyes looked at her up and down. Her hair was tied in a beautiful updo that had small hairs framing her face. Her bun was held together by a hairpin, that danged gold. She wore light make up, her lips a healthy pale pink and her eyes lined and showcasing her lilac colored eyes. She wore a sky blue yukata with different shades of flowers and she just looked like a mythological goddess that just appeared out of a story book.
“Jesus fuck Mikan.” Mondo could see a few of the passerby’s look over at him as he let himself shout. He was certain most of his friends could hear him. “You look sexy.”
“Th-thank you.” Mikan laughed, her cheeks tinting a bright pink as she fidgeted with her fingers. “Yo-you look han-handsome. I n-never seen you w-with your ha-hair down. You look go-good!”
He tugged at the strands of his hair. The style that he normally wore would call him out too much. He stood out enough with his frame and presence. He didn’t want to make things worse. “Don’t get used to it.” He told her, but he was also trying to gauge her reaction. Did she...prefer him like this?
“O-of course not.” Mikan assured. “Y-you look fi-fine just as y-you are.”
How the fuck did he manage to land a girl like her? He offered his arm and she took it gladly. “Where you wanna go?”
“C-can we browse ar-around first? Se-see what’s here?” Mikan asked. “T-then we can de-decide on what g-games to play or wh-what to eat.”
“I can do that.” Mondo grinned at her. “But we are playing a shooting game.”
“N-naturally. B-better hope that M-mukuro or M-maki aren’t here.” Mikan teased.
Mondo scoffed lightly. “They’d probably kick my ass, but it’ll be fun anyway. Chiaki will probably be around the games too.”
“I don’t k-know if her talent wo-would go with c-carnvial games but i-it would be inter-interesting to see.” Mikan said thoughtfully as they started to walk. There were a bunch of stalls with different types of games, and food.
They spoke for a while. They played some games and shared a shaved ice cup before the firework show started. They sat down at hill, getting a good spot as the colors sparked and lit up the sky. The festival went silent, and Mondo looked over at Mikan who was colored in different lights of red, purple, greens and blues.
Her eyes not once taken off of the sky, her lips parted in an excited grin. Her eyes reflected the glint of the sparks that were raining down and Mondo…
Mondo couldn’t find a better time. He reached between them and gently intertwined their hands together, and Mikan jolted from her reverie, looking up at him.
He could say a thousand things and still not get it right, and this moment didn’t need words.
He leaned down and pressed his lips against hers, startling her to tense. He was about to pull away, thinking he may have got the timing wrong. Instead, she pushed back, leaning into the kiss and bringing him back into her gravitational pull.
The fireworks weren’t the only thing that was exploding that night, that’s for damn sure.

Memories To Last (OwaMiki Week 2020 Day 4)
((Damn I’m late. I will possibly come back to this and polish this to a better look. Also please, please, please be wary of the tags. The prompt was angst and I came prepared with angst. Please if anything is triggering for you don’t touch it! This will include Major Character Death as well. Thank you so much for OwaMiki Week 2020 for hosting this event!))
Prompt: Angst/Soulmate-Au
Rating: T (16+)
Summary: The said that high school romances don’t last long, and they were lucky that they lasted as long as they did. MIkan thought about how she met Mondo and how they said their inevitable goodbyes.
You can read under the cut or here at my AO3
They said that high school romances don’t last long, and that they were lucky to have lasted for as long as they did. Mikan supposed that was an accurate assumption, as most high school romances did die after graduation. After the initial rebelling against fate and the words that were etched on everyone’s skin, they would unintentionally find their soulmate as they went out into the world. The statistics of finding one’s soulmate in a high school setting was astronomically low.
She had met hers in the courtyard during lunch. Mahiru, Ibuki, and Hiyori were waiting for her underneath a shaded tree. Mikan had been trying to restock the nurse’s office, as it was her Ultimate and she was shadowing the former Ultimate School Nurse to practice her talent. Today the Nurse was absent, and Mikan had been allowed to miss school until she came back in order to practice and take care of the students. Mikan didn’t doubt that it was an early practical test since taking care of real patients would determine more than a dummy would.
She was going to have to eat lunch quickly and go back to her job so that if someone got sick or hurt, they would be able to find her. She rushed out of the school and without looking where she was going, slammed herself into a hard wall that made her fall to the ground, hitting her rump and lower back.
“Shit are ya okay?” She opened her watering eyes to see a hand being held out to her, and a tough-looking gangster standing above her. Her eyes widened in fear before she scrambled up, ignoring the burning on her right forearm as she got onto her feet. She missed the scarred words turning red in acknowledgement until much later that day.
“I-I’m o-okay. I’m so so-sorry!” Mikan apologized profusely. “P-please let me g-go.” Before he could say anything, she grabbed her things and ran away from him.
It would take days before she would speak to him again. She knew that he was her soulmate, and she felt so ashamed of herself for just running. Of course she would get someone terrifying as a soulmate. Of course it was going to be someone that would probably hurt her. She knew that soulmates were supposed to be good for each other, and that they were supposed to bring out the best in each other, but...she wasn’t sure about this. Gang members never were kind and they were always in dangerous situations. Mikan didn’t want any trouble. She just wanted him to stay as far away from her as possible.
Mikan now would roll her eyes at the teenager that she was. It took Mondo coming into the nurse’s office with a good gash on his head, bleeding and bruised. As if he had just come out from a scrap. She nearly toppled over her supplies in shock when she saw him, bent over against the frame of the door. Both of each other looked, and the scary-looking bike leader was about to leave.
“Wait! Where are you going?” Mikan called out after him, getting to his side and grabbing his arm. “You need to rest and that cut looks dangerous. You need to sit down.”
“Ya don’ want anythin’ to do with me.” Mondo said gruffly. “I can handle it myself.”
“Now’s really not the time to put on a tough guy act.” Mikan panicked. Head injuries were no laughing matter. The slightest bump could be fatal if it was hit in the right place. She dragged him over towards a bed and made him sit down. “I’m going to ask you some questions now and I need to be honest with me and tell me what you think the answer is.”
“What is this a fuckin’ math test?” Mondo asked, his voice raising a little. Mikan flinched, but she had a feeling that he was worried about his own memory. What kind of signs he’d show.
“Please?!” Mikan wasn’t above begging. “Please. I’ll do anything if you’ll just answer.” Wrong choice of words, but...it got him to stop and clamp his mouth shut. “What’s your name?”
“Mondo Oowada. Nice to fuckin’ meet you I guess.”
“Oowada-san.” Mikan said slowly, “I’m Mikan Tsumiki. It is nice to meet you too. Do you remember what day it is?”
“It’s a monday ain’t it?” Another raised pitch, he didn’t like being unsure of himself.
“Good, but I was looking for a date.” Mikan prompted as she started to wash the wound. It was a shallow cut, nothing that would need stitches, but it liked to bleed. “Can you tell me that?”
“....Not really.”
“Okay. We can work with that. What’s the capital of Japan?”
“Tokyo. Obviously.”
“Where do you go to school?”
“Hope’s Peak Academy. Am I in the clear, nurse?” Mondo asked gruffly.
“You’re in the clear.” Mikan assured him as she finished putting the bandage on his head. She was grateful for no lasting damage, but she really hoped this wasn’t going to be a common occurrence. She fidgeted with her hands and she felt her throat tighten. She couldn’t let him leave without knowing how serious this was. “I-if you start feeling bad you need to come back here or go to the hospital. Headaches are probably going to be common, but if you start to get a migraine that doesn’t go away after a few hours, or if your stomach starts to get upset, then you want to consider emergency action. You need to have someone watch for you as you recover.”
“That’s it?” Mondo grinned. “Hell yeah. I was expectin’ somethin’ far worse than that! Thanks, doll.”
“Do-doll?!” Mikan stared at him before she remembered that a) this was her soulmate and b) she was going to have to get used to whatever pet name he gave her. “O-oh. Yo-you’re not upset wi-with me then?”
“Upset with you?” Mondo stared at her for a long moment before he looked away. “Look, I probably scared you when I asked if you were okay. I didn’t mean for my voice to get that loud and I was a bit nervous. Sorry.”
“N-no. I do-don’t blame you fo-for getting upset.” Mikan looked away, fidgeting. “Yo-you probably wo-would be an-angry that your soul-soulmate was a clutz li-like me. I do-don’t blame you for ha-hating me.”
“What the fuck?” Mondo looked up at her and Mikan bit her lower lip nervously. “Who the fuck am I punchin’?”
“Huh?!” Mikan immediately got worried. “No, you are not punching anyone! You ju-just got out of a fi-fight! You nee-need to rest more than, more than anything right now!”
“No one should be sayin’ shit like that to you. Jesus Christ if I find out you’re-”
Mikan wasn’t sure if she should be touched with the fact that he was willing to fight someone on her behalf despite just meeting her and knowing tha she was his soulmate, or be worried that it was his first response. “I-it’s no big deal.” She assured. “Ri-right now you sho-shouldn’t be punching an-anyone. If you are I’m, uh, I’m going to b-be really m-mad at you.”
They both kept a look at each other and Mikan wanted to hide underneath a table or apologize. He was injured though, and she needed to stay on somewhat of a firm foot. He couldn’t jeopardize his health like that. Finally he looked away and got himself up. “I’ll keep an eye out on my injuries.” He said after a moment. “Thanks for lookin’ out for me Mikan.”
“An-anytime Oowada-san.”
“Mondo. Call me Mondo.”
It was supposed to be the end of that, but they continued to run into each other after that. Mikan was too worried about him to let him go, and he kept getting hurt every other week. Nagito would call it the best luck ever to have hit her and most of her classmates would agree. Of course, with Nagito’s superstition about his luck, whatever good happens, bad wasn’t too far behind.
Of course all relationships had their ups and their downs, Mikan wouldn’t say that Mondo’s and hers was anything that was sweet and perfect. They fought. He was stubborn, she was a worry-wart, they both argued on the occasion about her getting hurt and her friends and in turn they’d argue about him and his bike riding and the fights that he would get himself into. He gave her more than enough heart attacks throughout high school, and the one time she wound up in the hospital herself made him snap.
“You’re comin’ home with me.” He said when he sat down next to her. The machines next to her beeped insistently. She had small gifts on her bedside table. If anyone wasn’t familiar with Mondo, they would’ve thought that he was trying to intimidate her with how close his chair was to her bed and how he sat, ready to get up on his feet and knock someone’s light’s out. His hands were already balled into fists, hanging on his lap. His expression is too serious to take lightly.
Mikan didn’t have the heart or the energy to argue with him this time. She was lucky to have been able to crawl to the telephone and ask for the ambulance. She was used to being tortured and made fun of. She was used to having her hair pulled and yanked around. She was used to getting slammed into walls and being looked at. Being used in more ways than one. She deserved every little bit of it, she believed. Yet this time...this time she knew that they crossed the line. She broke her arm down the stairs and she couldn’t walk. She knew she tore something inside of her and she was right.
As much as they hated her now, they were under arrest and the kit was done and the evidence was gathered. Mondo must’ve heard that she was stuck here through the grapevine. She didn’t doubt that Mahiru or Peko might’ve had an idea of what was going on. Peko considered that she was part of the yakuza and listened in on police scanners. Mahiru because if she was absent for anything, it was because she wasn’t in great shape.
“O-okay.” Mikan murmured. “I’m so-sorry.”
“Not this time, nurse.” Mondo assured. “Nothin’ to be sorry. We’ll get it right.”
She still had no idea what that meant, but she could understand the implication. Mikan gathered what little she had and she did move in with the Ooada family and she had to learn fast to get used to loud voices. Every single one of them were loud. Yelling was a common household theme.
They did their best to soften around her and they did their best to make sure that they weren’t overly obnoxious, but there were times where she heard Mondo’s mother knock a couple pans out of the way and made her flinch, and where she heard Mondo and his mother talk as though they were arguing when in reality it was just another conversation.
Mikan brought her hands together and rubbed them against her forehead, trying to keep her heart from breaking further at the memories that were playing through her mind. Their first date. Their first kiss. The first time he called her “babe”. The moment he proposed to her and married her.
“What do ya think of kids?”
Mikan was trying to help wash dishes and hadn’t expected the question. The plate slipped out of her fingers dropped back into the soapy water, splashing at her mercilessly. Mondo laughed and she let out a sharp whine giving him a look. “Yo-you did that on pu-purpose!” She was getting better at trying to bicker with him. It was how he showed he was close to people and it didn’t do her any good to apologize with a head bowed low. He inspired her to be confident, and in turn their apartment wasn’t filled with banging doors and softer expressions of affection.
“Nah. I was actually just curious. I was just thinkin’ about it and was wondering your thoughts. Not expectin’ an answer though. I’m damn happy to be where I am now. No pressure.”
“Kids.” Mikan mused as she reached for the plate and started to scrub it again. She let her mind wander as she tried to picture the family. It would have to be a big one, Mondo wasn’t the type that would go for just one. If he was then that would be a surprise. She thought about where they were in their lives. Mikan worked extremely long hours and she barely got to be home. Mondo worked as a carpenter, but still rode his bike on occasion with his gang since they got married. Between the two of them they made enough to be comfortable, and it’d stay like that if they had one or two. “I…” She trailed off. “Maybe.” She said in answer.
“Again there’s really no fuckin’ pressure.” Mondo looked at her. “I’m happy as we are.”
“Y-yes, but…” Mikan trailed off. “I do wan-want to be a mot-mother. I ju-just don’t kno-know how good of one I-I’d be. W-we could d-do it if w-we wanted to.”
“I get it.” Mondo said quietly as he took the plate from her and started drying it. Mikan panicked a little inwardly, trying to think of where she might’ve gone wrong in her statement. “I don’t know how good of a father I’d be. My dad ditched my mom after I was born. Mom had to raise me and Daiya by her lonesome.”
“I-I don’t thi-think you’d leave.” Mikan assured. “I-if any-anything yo-you’d stick so close t-to me we wo-would be att-attached to the hip.”
“Hell yea.” Mondo flashed her a grin. “So you in or you out?”
No pressure. Mikan smiled thoughtfully. “In.” She said, mustering all the confidence in the world to say it.
Of course that was the start of the problem wasn’t it? It was the start where everything that went wrong could go wrong. Mikan nor Mondo ever really told anyone about it. It had happened so quickly, and they were internally grateful that they both had thought to wait on announcing anything when it happened.
Mondo and Mikan threw themselves into work, but they also threw themselves together when they were able to meet again from long work hours, trying to recover from the loss. They talked here and there about trying again, but the moment always felt wrong to them both. As if they were trying to replace something that couldn’t ever be replaced.
Now this and Mikan was devastated. She looked up from tracing the words on her arms as she looked at Mondo’s lying form in the hospital bed. It had been a wreck. She was on call for thirty six hours, and she had just barely started her shift when she was told to get off the clock and get into the waiting room. There was no way she could help, it was unethical practice and she was too emotionally attached to the patient. All she could do was pray and pray and pray…
But praying didn’t work here and his mother was sitting on the other side of him. Brain dead, they said. He was on life support, but there was no way that was going to continue. There was no way it was going to last. Mikan twisted her rings, trying to come up with something to say but she couldn’t.
How did she miss her arm turning black?
“Hey babe, me the boys are going to go on one last ride around the town.”
Mikan looked up from reading and she grinned at him. It had been a hot minute since he thought about going with his friends. “B-be safe.” She told him sincerely.
“Always.” He walked behind her and gave her an upside down kiss, cupping her cheek and stroking her hair, just the way she liked before he moved off of her. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Mikan beamed.
Of course it wasn’t every day the last words spoken were going to be loving ones. She saw blackened words of hate and of ambiguity. She saw how her patient’s lovers and friends all felt remorse for the things that they said, things that they wish they could say. She was grateful that Mondo didn’t live like that.
He lived with saying everything that he needed to say. There wasn’t a person in their friend group that could have remorse. More conversations? Of course, that would be the most common regret. More hangouts? More invites? More being around each other? Mikan knew those kinds of regrets wouldn’t sit well with the biker.
“I-is it okay if…” Mikan let out a shuddering breath, trying to hold herself together even though she wanted to burst into tears. Later. She could fall apart later. “If I...called his friends? L...let t-them-”
“Of course.” Her mother in law said quietly. It was the first time and the only time Mikan ever heard her talk so soft. As though she was afraid that she was going to wake Mondo up. Mikan wanted to assure her that Mondo could sleep through anything, but...that was the point now. She stumbled upwards and went into the hallway.
She didn’t go to the phone at first, she went straight to the bathroom and turned on the faucet as loud as she could get it. She burst into tears and collapsed onto her knees. She as all alone. She was going to be all alone. She wasn’t going to go to the apartment and see him. She wasn’t going to hear him yell for her across the  apartment. They weren’t going to bicker over little things like dinner plans and dates. They weren’t going to cuddle on the couch and watch something stupid on the television. They weren’t going to….
She cried until her heart couldn’t take it and her stomach hurt. She cried until her body ached and she just wanted to go home and wrap herself in a blanket. She wanted to pretend that this was all a bad dream and that he was going to be at the apartment. This was just a nightmare and she was going to wake up.
She was going to wake up?
She stood on wobbling legs and she held herself steady on the sink. Her face was splotchy and her eyes were swollen and red. She looked like a mess and she couldn't bring herself to apologize for it. Not even to her reflection. She turned the water off, not needing it anymore to hide her sobbing and crying. She tried to find a way to pull herself together, but every time she thought she stitched herself up correctly she wanted to fall apart again.
She needed to call his friends.
Taka.
Makoto.
She needed to call them especially. She stumbled out of the bathroom and headed towards the phones. She apologized over and over again, her voice breaking. She couldn’t remember exactly what she said, or what she was told...but she knew that the message got across and…
Taka was there within an instant. She knew it took him much longer than that, but he was there within a good few minutes. Makoto wasn’t far behind. It...was hard to be there with them. Taka was unashamed in his emotions and she burst back into tears as he cried. They both hugged each other, trying desperately to comfort each other but at the same time understanding that the loss was going to be inevitable. Makoto also shed tears, and was dragged into a hug as well.
They tried to swap stories, share memories, but it was raw. It was hard. Mikan felt like it was poking at a bruise that had yet to heal, still fresh. She thought about him in the nurses office and all the times in between with wounds and a smile. He was bulletproof until he wasn’t anymore.
She went back to her apartment soon afterwards, unable to keep her eyes open and knowing she needed the strength for what would come next. The plans, the goodbyes, the event. Mondo would want all of his friends there, his ex-gang. They undoubtedly felt ashamed for what had happened, and she couldn’t...bring herself to hate them. It was easier to forgive.
She sat on the bed, trying to keep herself together but knowing that she was going to fall apart. She was alone. The apartment felt empty and devoid of life. She rubbed her arm again, tracing the black words as she tried to keep her sanity. The only positive thought that went through her mind was what her friends had told her a long time ago. That high school romances didn’t last long, and that they were lucky to have lasted as long as they did.

Date Night (OwaMiki 2020 Day 3)
Prompt: Date/Kiss
Rating: T
Summary: It’s always nerve wracking on the first date, but surely something good will come out of it.
You read under the cut or at my AO3
Mondo was leaning against his motorcycle as he waited for Mikan to come out of the girl’s dormitory, his heart thumping wildly in his chest. He wasn’t sure what he was doing, he wasn’t sure if she was going to appreciate this...he honestly hadn’t expected to get as far as he did. Of course asking her out had been a disaster, and he forgot that she had been a victim of a different kind of yelling. Of course, it ended it tears, misunderstandings, and a belief that it was never going to happen. He was just shocked when she approached him with her phone number and told him that it would be easier. It had been. She didn’t stammar so much and was easy to read, and she couldn’t tell if he was yelling or not. It didn’t mean that they didn’t call each other. The call log was full of their conversations. He would get excited and his voice would be loud, and she was quiet and forced him to strain his ears to understand what she was saying. They learned. They figured it out...and now he was leaning against his ride, trying to breathe normally as he waited anxiously for his woman to show up.
How long did it even fucking take to put on a dress? Mondo wasn’t about to rush her. She was probably in much of a panic as he was standing outside her dormitory. He wasn’t willing to fuck this up. He wasn’t willing to make this night turn into another disaster. He was just about to see if she was still taking her time or if she forgot when he heard the door creak open and he looked up.
God she cleaned up nice. That lacy pink dress was form fitting, showing just enough of her chest to get an idea. She didn’t wear heels, which was a huge sigh of relief. Her hair was pulled back in a half ponytail and had uneven curls. Someone must have done her make up, they only did a little bit with making her lips pinker than usual and lined the eyes. She grinned at him and rushed towards him. Mondo, already foreseeing what was going to happen, jogged towards her and caught her just before she tripped. “Hey babe.” He grinned as he steadied her. “You look sharp.”
“Hahah. Th-thank you. Yo-you look go-good too.” He was wearing the Crazy Diamond’s jacket, but he decided to wear something underneath rather than nothing. He wanted to be able to take the jacket off and still look like a king. She peered over his shoulder and she went still as a toothpick. “We’re riding?”
“Yeah! It’ll be fun! Trust me.” Mondo grinned, gently wrapping his arm around her. Don’t fuck up, don’t fuck up, he chanted in his mind as he guided her over towards the ride. It was one of his favorites. The Kawasaki was custom made to his tastes, and Kazuichi didn’t seem to mind fixing it up for him from time to time he thought of an new idea. The dark sleek paint reflected the lights around the courtyard like stars in the night sky. He couldn’t wait for her to see what those lights could look like underneath blue and red.
Not that he planned on getting caught with her. That’d ruin the date and his pride. But he could at least show it to her through the neon of the city.
Nice save.
“M-maybe I should’ve wo-worn pants or som-something?” Mikan mused. “I didn’t th-think.”
“You’re fine babe.” Mondo assured. “You look good and we ain’t goin’ do anything crazy, alright? Breathe. Nothin’s gonna happen.”
She grinned, a pretty pink on her cheeks and Mondo felt his own cheeks burn in response. Her smile was always the one thing that could freeze and melt him all at the same time. “Th-then I’m in your han-hands.” She proclaimed and he helped her onto the back of his bike. “Do I, do I need to know anyth-anything special?”
“Lean the direction I’m leaning but don’t do it too much.” Mondo instructed. “Just balance with me.” He normally didn’t ride with a helmet on, but with his girl on the back there was just no way he was going to take a chance. He went into the back of the bike and popped the small storage unit to take out the helmet. He shoved it onto her, making her squeak and he adjusted it so that it would stay snug against her. “Sorry for ruining your hair.”
“It-it’s ju-just hair.” Mikan protested. “I’ll be f-fine. Sh-shouldn’t y-you be wearing this th-though?”
“Nah.” Mondo grinned at her, “I’m not the Ultimate Biker Gang Leader for nothing! Let’s go!” He tossed his leg over the side of the bike and grinned as Mikan immediately wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing herself tight against him for balance and security. He revved the bike up and without another word, zoomed off into the night.
X
The date went as smooth as butter, in Mondo’s mind. He wasn’t willing to spend money on anything extravagant, and Mikan didn’t mind going to some of his favorite places either. She was more than willing to hold his hand or his arm, and he made sure to keep it open and free for her to claim so that she would at least have something to cling to if she was going to fall. The conversation was easy too. All in all, Mondo had a very good feeling about this.
He parked the bike up against the railing of the bridge. No one was heading anywhere, and the view was fantastic. They were able to see the city and the lights, and watch them glitter on the river’s running current. The breeze picked up and a couple of strands brushed against Mikan’s face, framing her cheeks and catching the light from the streetlamps.
For just one moment, Mondo truly thought he was staring at an angel of sorts. He never thought he’d see a girl look good like this. There was just...something about this scene and this moment he swore brought something out of her that he didn’t see in the school or at the restaurant.
She was really, truly good looking.
“Yo-you kn-know I woul-wouldn’t min-mind meeting your friends one day.” Mikan spoke after a moment. Mondo had to strain to hear her through the river rolling underneath them. “You se-seem to be a very good le-leader.” She beamed at him. “Yo-you take a lot of responsibility. It’s not e-easy.”
“I don’t mind it.” Mondo shrugged as he wrapped his arms around the railing and leaned forward. He glanced at her again and she kept that smile on her face. She looked peaceful. Relaxed. She wasn’t stressed out and timid like she was during school. “I’m sure as hell they wouldn’t mind meeting you.” Considering how often they ribbed him about having a crush on the girl, he didn’t doubt it. Not once.
Mikan giggled and she brought her hands together in front of her chest, pleased as punch. “We sh-should do this again.” She said after a moment. “I didn’t th-think I would li-like riding so much. Yo-you made it a lot of f-fun!”
“Really?!” Mondo perked up a little as he pushed himself back up to standing. “Sweet! There’s so many places where I can take ya then! There’s a few places that I know that are just kickin.”
“Th-then we have a date.” Mikan grinned at him. “Ho-how did you ge-get into riding anyway? If! If I can ask!”
Mondo’s good cheer damped slightly, but if she was going to be his girl then there was no point in lying. He went back to leaning against the railing, trying to think on how to word. “My brother Daiya got me into it. The Crazy Diamonds were his first. He had a good head on his shoulders. He was faster than me. Stronger than me. I admired him. He was a fucking luantic though sometimes. The things he could do on the bike...I can only dream of doin’ now.”
“I-I’m sorry.” He felt a light touch on his shoulder and he glanced up to see that Mikan approached him on her own. Her hand gently rested on his shoulder, and her other hand was gripping her chest like she was trying to keep her heart inside. Was she nervous? About being so close to him, or was she just...trying not to panic and wonder if she had said something wrong? “Yo-you seemed sad.”
“Yeah. It’s hard to talk about. It doesn’t matter now. Bro’s dead and gone...and….now it’s up to me to make sure our gang still holds together. It’s been a damn good blast. Nothin’s gonna change that. Not graduation, not nothin’.” Mondo assured as he stood up. “I was talkin’ to Makoto the other day about what I’d do after graduation. Most of the gang’s gonna be outta high school then. We all got things we gotta worry about. The fuckin’ future and shit. You know. The stupid things.”
“Is it really that stu-stupid?” Mikan questioned and Mondo looked at her curiously. “Priorities ch-change yes. Bu-but that doesn’t mean you sho-should give up what ma-makes you happy. The-there are probably still y-younger kids tha-that’ll want to be ap-part of your gang.”
Mondo blinked slowly.
“Yo-you can hold a jo-job and st-still have fun!” Mikan continued. “D-do something fo-for a job an-and do the bik-bikes at ni-night or something. Yo-you can-can’t live on just a j-job alone. It’s not mentally healthy and you’re going to get physically sick if you only focus on one aspect of your life. There’s a reason why hobbies are such an important thing to those in the hospital and for people outside of it.”
“That wouldn’t bother you?” Mondo asked firmly as he turned his attention completely onto her. She gasped a little and stepped back. “Me doin’ my bikes and holdin’ down a job? That wouldn’t bother you?”
“N-no.” Mikan looked a little confused, but she was sincere in her stance. “I-I think that you should do what makes you ha-happiest.” She nodded after a moment. “I do medicine as a job y-yes, but I do ot-other things too. One p-part of you shouldn’t de-define the whole you. Hajime-kun ta-taught me that when I was s-starting Hope’s Peak. I was….I was so much wo-worse than I am n-now. I was so s-scared of other people’s op-opinons of me. I sti-still am! But...I’m ge-getting better.”
Mondo remembered when he saw her trip in the courtyard during lunch. How she fell and her friends didn’t bat an eye at her misery. How she didn’t mind the mockery or the teasing. She was still friends with them, oddly enough. Mondo doubted he understand their dynamic completely, but he trusted Mikan with her own decisions and friendships. He just had to be there for her when things went south as they sometimes did.
“I got real lucky with you.” Mondo concluded, and Mikan blinked. “Most girls wouldn’ want their man out ridin’. Too dangerous and it’s easy to get yourself fucked up if you ain’t careful.”
“W-well…” Mikan trailed off. “If you got h-hurt somehow...I’ll be able to tr-treat you.”
“Seriously?! You’d do that? Mikan you’re a doll ya know that?!”
“Hahaha I’m not do-doing anything spec-special!” Mikan laughed, a little nervously but Mondo pulled her into a tight embrace anyway.
“Nah, you’re pretty fuckin’ special.” Mondo disagreed as he let her go. She had such a pretty smell. Floral of some type. It wasn’t sickly sweet or overly strong either. He wondered if it was perfume or her own natural scent. She smiled up at him and for one moment the world just stopped turning. The conversation no longer really mattered.
She was….
Really pretty. She had a good heart. She was caring, compassionate. She wanted to support and he wanted to support her. He cupped her cheek with his hand and allowed the moment to push him forward. To kiss her like he should’ve done when he saw her underneath the street lights the first time.
She didn’t pull away frightened or shocked. She pulled herself into the kiss too, as though she was also underneath the night’s spell. When they pulled away, Mondo felt like there was something new just right there. His heart never raced so fast since a bike race or a good ride. “Let’s get ya back.” Mondo said softly.
“Okay.” Mikan grinned at him and he reveled in the feeling of her arms wrapping around his waist again, holding him close. But this time, Mondo swore there was something different in the grip and the way she leaned against him. It made his heart burst into his chest.
Yeah. He gripped the handlebars tight. This was much better than any fuckin’ race.

A Season of Love Chapter 3
Spring

Mondo and Mikan both grabbed the edges of the blanket and swung it up and out, unfolding it and putting it down near the riverside. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, decorating the river and the ground like pastel pink snow. Their classmates had once more wanted to do some sort of big gathering, but Mondo and Mikan both preferred to be alone this time. The Halloween party had been a success, and the Christmas gathering that they had after break had been awesome too. There was no doubt in their minds that the springtime gathering would be a hit too, but...it was nice to be alone with each other. They rarely had a chance with either of their talents.
Mikan outstretched her legs. She was happy to be wearing casual wear, it was rare for her to get out of uniform. She felt like she practically lived in it. She also was happy to tie her hair in a different way than what uniform required. She normally left it down, since it rarely had a chance to breathe. She also got to wear jeans and a blouse.
Mondo’s uniform was all white with gold lining around the hems. She recognized it instantly as a uniform that his brother had worn back when he had been the leader of the Crazy Diamonds, before he died. She hesitated to press for information, and instead rummaged through the basket for food. Mondo was taking cooking lessons from Teruteru, and she was excited to see how much he progressed. He never really told her explicitly why he was taking the lessons, but Mikan would hazard a guess. He was graduating this year after all.
“Ain’t this nice?” Mondo grinned as she passed a bottle of ramune to him and held one for herself. She also started to pass out the food. “No one yammerin’ and yellin’. Just us.”
“Yes.” Mikan grinned. “I-it is nice to be a-alone. U-um...are you n-nervous ab-about graduation?”
“Nah. I don’t need to worry about that shit anymore. I got myself all figured out, don’t you fuckin’ worry.” Mondo assured, giving her a thumbs up. “I already got myself all set up.”
The mentor that he had for carpentry had extended a reach out and offered him a place when he graduated which was wonderful. Mikan already had offers from several hospitals all lined up for her when she was ready to graduate as well. They just had to wait another year, which neither party minded. “Y-you look ni-nice in wh-white.” Mikan offered.
“Yeah this? This was my big bro’s.” Mondo gently pulled at the fabric. “I was comin’ back from saying yo.”
Oh. That explained why he asked her to meet her here then. Mikan had wondered about it. They were far from any sort of viewing ceremony, and no one was taking the hike to come up here. It wasn’t one of the more well known spots. She didn’t know what was nearby, it wasn’t a place she grew up in, or knew much about. Yet, she was eager for a new spot and she was happy to see a place that wasn’t so crowded with people.
No wonder it was isolated though. Being near a grave like this would be considered bad luck to some people. Mikan thought about it for a moment before she stood up. “L-let’s do something.” She told him.
“Babe what?”
“W-we’re not far from where he is are we?” She asked, gathering her courage. She knew she could be breaking a thousand of different rules here, but she wanted to do something. It felt wrong to be so close to his family, and not be there. “J-just..trust me?”
“Always.” Mondo agreed as he folded up the blanket and they repacked their things. They hadn’t dug into eat or opened any of the bottles which was nice. Mondo looked a little confused, but Mikan kept walking. Maybe it was his impulsiveness that was getting ahead of her. Maybe it was his single-handed determination that was blinding her. Whatever it was, Mikan held on to that courage for as long as she possibly could.
The graves were clustered together, tightly packed. There was enough room for people to sit and pray, but not enough for what they were about to do. They were going to disturb someone, they were going to cause a scene. It made a cold sweat break out on Mikan’s neck, but…
It was going to be one of the few times she got to meet him properly, and...Mondo wasn’t ever the type to push for a meeting. Just…”someday babe”. Someday was today and she was determined.
Mondo guided her to the grave that had a bunch of flowers and an incense stick burning at the end of it. “Hey bro I’m… back with my girl.” He said hesitantly. “Don’t ask me what the fuck we’re doin’.”
“W-we are going to c-celebrate ha-hanami here.” Mikah held her hands out for the blanket and once more they opened it up and spread it out as well as they could in the graveyard.
“This feels like a scene out of a fuckin’ shoujo manga. Has Tsumugi gotten a hold of you or somethin’?” Mondo asked as they once more spread out the food and this time started to properly eat.
“N-no.” Mikan shook her head. “I j-just thought this would be best for you bo-both.”
Mondo stared at her for a long moment. Long enough that she thought he was going to get upset with her before he grinned, wide with teeth and he sat down. “Hell yeah! My girl’s awesome. Now I can tell you all the stories that I’ve been savin’.”
Mikan’s heart fluttered in her chest, a pleased blush tainting her cheeks. She was happy that she was able to make him just as happy.

A Season of Love Chapter 2
((I wasn’t kidding about the spam guys.))
Winter
Prompt: Seasonal/Fluff
Rating: T
Summary: Sometimes coming up with Christmas Presents need an outsider’s perspective or help.
You can read under the cut or here at my AO3
Previous                               Next
Mondo was stumped. He was screwed. He was freaking out. What the fuck was he supposed to get Mikan for a fucking Christmas gift? She wasn’t the type to wear jewelry, her work conditions weren’t the best for it and she tended to steer clear of those things. She liked them, but it was hard to like something that couldn’t be used. He wanted to come up with something special. But...god it was hard to figure it out. Most of her classmates weren’t much help either, only coming up with doctor bullshit.
A lightbulb immediately flashed into his head as he decided to leave the store. He could make something. He could build something. He had told Makoto that he wanted to be a carpenter and had found the Ultimate Carpenter in another class. She was shocked at his admission of what he wanted to do, but was more than willing to drag him through woodworking and teach him what she knew. She was more than grateful that someone wanted to learn a trade that just wasn’t about talent. He supposed his classmates were weird like that, now that he thought about it.
He stormed back into Hope’s Peak, ignoring Taka’s yell that he shouldn’t be running in the halls which he was certain he replied back with “I’m walking fuckin’ briskly!” but he wasn’t too sure if he even opened his mouth. He was too focused and determined to get to the Ultimate’s lab.
Her lab was...practically a lumber’s wet dream if he was going to take anything from Miu’s vocabulary. She collected all sorts of organically sourced wood, and they were all lined up against the walls in different sizes already precut so that she didn’t have to try to resize them too much when she got down to it. The smell of wood and stain was dizzying and the chemicals were already giving off a headache, but he could endure it for a lot longer than most of his other classmates. He was around the toxic fumes of a motorbike, so he knew exactly how to hold himself together.
She was at the saw, goggles and gloves on. He walked up to her and waited until she turned it off and put her goggles on her head. “Whats up?”
“I have a gift I wanna make my girl.” Mondo said simply. “Gonna need to borrow you and your lab.”
The Ultimate merely blinked once, then twice and then a grin shot on to her face. “Okay mister, but you owe me.”
“Fuck yes.”
“So what’s the plan? Whatcha thinking?” The Ulimate asked as she headed towards her supply of wood.
“A customized first aid kit.” Mondo replied. “It’ll be fuckin’ awesome.”
“Nurse right?” The Ultimate thought about it for a moment before nodding her head. “Let’s chat.”
X
“That’s a face.”
“AAAAHHH” Mikan screamed loudly as she turned to look and see that Hajime was standing behind her. His hands were held up in a pleading tone as most of the classmates were looking over at them. She had been walking down the hallway, deep in thought. She hadn’t even bothered to look around and see if someone was trying to get her attention. “I-I’m so sor-sorry.” She clasped her hands to her chest, tears prickling at the ends of her eyes. She had been so scared. “P-please don’t star-startle me like that H-Hajime.”
“Right. I’m sorry, Mikan. I thought you heard me.” Hajime assured, which only made her heart sank further in her chest. Someone had been trying to get her attention. What kind of nurse was she if she couldn’t pay attention to her surroundings? “Are you okay?”
“H-huh?” Mikan blinked at him.
“You looked upset. Are you okay?”
“Hmmm…” She supposed it couldn’t hurt to tell Hajime. “I-I was thinking ab-about what to get M-Mondo for Ch-christmas.” She fidgeted with her fingers as she tried to sort out her thoughts. “I-it’s a bit hard. I do-don’t really know wha-what to do. I was g-going to ask N-Naegi-kun or I-Ishimaru-kun if th-they could provide in-insight.”
“I’m sure whatever you come up with, he’ll adore it.” Hajime assured, but his gaze was serious. Mikan wondered if he too was trying to think of what to do to help her. He always went out of his way for their classmates, even though he just barely transferred into their class. It was hard to believe that the once talentless had a talent that was completely overlooked.
Nagito was practically bouncing at the mere thought of such a prospect and it was a conversational topic that still happened often. “Why not get something for his motorbike?”
“L-like what ex-exactly?” Mikan knew absolutely nothing about motorcycles, let alone how to care for one. Getting him something for his bike could be insulting or could be disastrous.
“I heard from Taka that Mondo was griping about a seat cover.” Hajime explained. “I’m sure if you asked one of the boys from his class, they’d be able to point you in the right direction as to what kind of cover to get.”
A seat cover. That didn’t require too much hard thinking and it was practical. She knew his favorite color and what color his bike was. She’d just have to confirm with Angie that the colors were a good mix. Other than that, it wouldn’t ruin the bike. She would just have to make sure it was the perfect fit. “Yo-you’re a genius!” She squeaked before taking off at a somewhat run. She didn’t get very far as she tripped and fell against the ground.
Hajime just sighed as he walked over towards her to help her stand, only to watch her take off again at the same speed. “Girl’s not going to get anywhere….”
