1st not in order but u can probably associate which one is with which doodle -all the foxes/ hampter stuff are fantasyau stuffs. rinne turns niki into a hamster and carries him around. niki doesnt know the spell to turn back and is an angry hamster in response -haha. they're holding. primroses and honeysuckle. and niki has his eyes closed while rinne has one open. watching niki. haha. -niki comforting a sad rinne-kun. rinne's sad that his tamagotchi hamster that he named niki died from old age. rip niki the hamster -small rinkys eating ozoni for newyears. rinne pulled on the mochi and nikis going mogumogumogumogumogumogumogumogu -kissy -rinne watching his wife's recorded live. whipped 2nd 17/14 they're out getting groceries and rinne gets curious about purikura machine. theres 3 photos first one is blurry and rinne is like still adjusting stuff while the photo is being taken LMAO . second one they settle down and niki is doing peace signs. rinne doesnt know what a peace sign is and is doing the number three. third one they're trying to do a heart but cuz niki is too short its more of a circle// they both get copies and niki keeps it in his wallet while rinne has his safe with his other important things stored back at niki's apartment; (this ones courtesy of sana) rinne steals niki's wallet to look at it - he uses it as a goodluck charm doesn't take money out just brings it with him to the slots

3rd (also courtesy mostly to sana) top: watching a cheesy romance movie where the couple are having the grossest messiest (premarital) makeout session and rinne's watching with a completely straight face until niki turns to him and opens his mouth and rinne instantly says "no" and turns bright red. bottom: they have a tortilla blanket. they play around in it. both have their turn . rinne is squirming around trying to escape as niki covers him in kisses 4th top: niki makes bentos for all the bees. sometimes he leaves messages for rinne-kun. like this omelet with a message to give him back his wallet. rinne only sees it and is happy cuz his wife is still writing messages for him on his bento. niki is not amused and wants his wallet back

bottom: sappy in the kitchen. dont distract the chef the soup is going to over-boil... small rinkys asleep. both having very different dreams. poor rinne-kun thinks a dog broke into the apartment or something

Momo: That was “t(w)o…”, “Kiseki”, and “Eiensei Riron”! 

Momo: How was it, everyone? 

Audience: Kyaaaaa!

Yuki: Everyone’s excitement also warmed us up. Thank you. 

Momo: Yeah, yeah! It got as piping hot as the ozoni (1) Yuki made for the New Year! 

Yuki: You were even like “It’s hot!” Didn’t your tongue get burnt from it? 

Momo: I was totally fine! It was super delicious! And eating ozoni made by Yuki while getting to stare at his face……… It was the best way I could’ve ever started the New Year! 

Yuki: But wasn’t that the only thing that felt like New Year’s? Personally, I wanted to relish in the New Year feeling a bit more. 

Momo: Ahaha! It really did go by in a flash, huh! 

Momo: Work was fulfilling,  but I still wanted to enjoy even more things with Yuki, like seeing the first sunrise of the new year, going to the first shrine visit, and flying a kite! 

Yuki: So active….. 

Momo: It’s the first events of the New Year! We have to psyche ourselves up!

Yuki: I’d just like to relax under a kotatsu and eat mandarins with you, Momo. 

Yuki: Isn’t it a luxury to be able to spend time together, just the two of us, without worrying about being in the public eye? 

Momo: Uwahh….. W-well, I don’t want to give that up either….

Momo: Then, let’s start thinking now about how we want to spend next year together so we can both enjoy it to the fullest! 

Yuki: To the fullest, huh…… For example? 

Momo: Well, something like the first shrine visit? I haven’t really been able to do it recently. 

Momo: Wouldn’t it be fun to go out and countdown to the New Year, and then head straight over afterwards? 

Momo: Going to a shrine late at night has a unique ambience to it, plus getting to drink amazake (2) and enjoy the food stalls has a special and exciting feeling to it, too! 

Yuki: If only it wasn’t so cold and crowded.

Momo: Hahaha! I figured you’d say that! 

Yuki: Well, seeing you having fun would be cute so I’ll think about it. 

Momo: Yuki……! I’ll be sure to prepare a lot of body warmers and other countermeasures to fight the cold! 

Momo: What’s your ideal New Year’s like, Yuki? 

Yuki: Watch and I’ll recreate it right now.

Yuki: …………

Momo: Is it perhaps…. sleeping? 

Yuki: That’s right. 

Momo: You suddenly closed your eyes and I wondered what happened….?! Before I knew it there was a fan service shot! Let me prepare my heart! 

Momo: Nobody was ready for it, right?! 

Yuki: Then, one more time…. 

Audience: Kyaaaaaa! 

Momo: Haha! I’m ultra lucky to be able to see Yuki’s sleeping face twice!! 

Yuki: ….. When I closed my eyes I actually got a bit sleepy. 

Momo: EHhh?! 

Yuki: Fufu. Kidding. 

Yuki: On that note, it’s about time for our next song. 

Momo: Yeah! There’s still more of the show! We’ll make it so exciting that it will blow away all the sleepiness! 

Momo: “Re-raise”!

Let's work backwards! valuta is my piece for the Corazine: Fragments of the Heart. After sales are still open! This was such a lovely project to work on. Thank you @corazine. Coins collected and passed along generational lines for protection from two very different strata of society. Featuring the Donquixote Brothers as children, Cora and Law on Minion Island, then Law's reflection after speaking to Sengoku on Dressrosa.

Forty-two Superior Teeth, my piece for the free Growing Pains zine, featuring your favourite One Piece characters when they were kids! The zine is still available. Check it out! (my piece is the original Hearts on Swallow Island).

Chapter 3 of Taxi, re-uploaded. An older fic, but that chapter hadn't been available for a number of years. The link leads to the first chapter. Law drives a taxi and interacts with a variety of One Piece characters.

shogatsu in death note

the winter holiday season is coming up so i thought i'd pull out some of the new years references in death note.

new years (shogatsu) is the big japanese festival. it originally took place according to the lunisolar calendar, but was moved to january 1st during the meiji restoration. it's a family holiday and has many shinto elements. it's a good time for change, refreshment, and casting off of old things.

preparation

year-end cleaning is basically what it sounds like -- it's a major cleaning you do before the new years. it makes sure your household is ready for the new year, because it's better not to have the mess of the old year hanging around. you want to start the year off unburdened. traditionally, it also welcomes kami to a clean house. (lucky ryuk!) traditionally, sachiko would also be preparing osechi (traditional auspicious foods) for new years day, although these days you can also buy these and/or pay for services to prepare the entire array for you. you can also buy some and make others. they're very fiddly and time-consuming to make, so this has to be done in advance.

new years eve

lots of television channels run specials for new years eve. it's not technically part of shogatsu, but it's part of the holidays for many people. sayu is watching death note's version of the red-and-white song contest. this is an nhk program, and it's the more traditional of the two choices. pop singers are divided into two teams, red and white, which compete against one another. it's a really big deal! the fact that misa was invited onto it means she's doing well. here's a colour picture of the stage from the second arc. the sun is there because of kira's influence. otherwise, that's pretty much what the stage looks like in real life.

light is watching the annual mma fight. the sapp-akebono fight was a real and highly anticipated fight between bob sapp and taro akebono. ryuk isn't the only one surprised by the outcome -- akebono was (shockingly!) knocked out in the first round.

new years day

new years day is the big celebration! soichiro missing it is somewhat similar to him missing christmas. sayu is right to be annoyed by this.

you get together and eat osechi -- traditional foods that represent and create various forms of good luck for the upcoming year. they're generally served in special laquered boxes. light would probably want to pay the most attention to the shrimp, which help with a long life, but since that's clearly not going to happen he should perhaps focus on the kuromame, which give you good health. (they also sometimes have gold leaf on them, which is pretty.)

mentioned in the four-panel comics, mochi soup (ozoni) is eaten alongside the osechi. the yagamis would probably be eating kanto style, which is a clear miso with bonito dashi and shoyu. a mirror cake is a common new year's decoration, often placed on a household shinto shrine or a decorated alcove called a toko. (this looks like a toko.) it traditionally has an orange on it. you can eat it eventually, generally during kagami biraki on january 11th.

you would also receive new years cards! light is presumably joking here -- this exchange happens on january 8th, so it is in fact much too late. yamamoto's making this sound like there's some romantic element involved, but you would send them to pretty much anyone (friends, family etc.) as long as no one in their household has died that year.

children are also given otoshidama, gift money in decorated paper envelopes. this is similar to chinese red envelopes. your children can then use this money to buy tiny tvs to kill people with. there are no specific rules, but ¥5,000, or $50, would be somewhat standard (per envelope) for a high school student like light. anyway, those are some elements of shogatsu! ohba and obata seem to like it, because a lot of things in death note (ex. all of this, the warehouse scene) happen roughly around this time. it's a fun holiday, and a good way to start off the new year!

Kanan: Yoshiko-chan, did you have a traditional New Year’s meal with osechi? Yoshiko: Yes, I ate with my temporary roommates in the human world. It was very tasty. 𝅘𝅥𝅮 Kanan: Osechi dishes are delicious. And you can enjoy the special feeling of eating together on New Year’s Day. 𝅘𝅥𝅮 Yoshiko: Speaking of osechi, I was watching a TV show the other day and saw that there are regional differences in what gets put in ozoni mochi soup. Kanan: Oh, what differences are there? Yoshiko: In the Kanto region, people will make their datemaki rolled omelets sweeter. In the Kansai region, people will make their dashi soup stock saltier. And in the Kyushu region, people usually add local delicacies to their ozoni. Kanan: Ah, we could add Uchiura’s dried fish and dark fish cakes into our ozoni! Yoshiko: That sounds good. If I were to make an osechi dish, I would include Tears of a Fallen Angel. Kanan: It would be fun to have everyone in Aqours make their own osechi dish! Yoshiko: That sounds good! Aqours osechi! Next year, let’s make osechi together!

He laughs at your surprised expression. Any tree fruits grown underground that weren’t magic were incredibly expensive and in low supply. Monsters had to rely on the few little pockets of land where the underground ceiling caved in and sunlight could peek through to grow the trees

Salsa: expensive I know, but I could afford it and it was a special occasion. Anyways, we’d slice the oranges, and my late soulmate would boil and candy them to make ornaments we string around the house
