Via Henry-Moore.org: “The Colour of Anxiety brings into focus sculpture exhibited and collected in Britain between 1850 and 1900, a rich yet largely overlooked body of work. The exhibition examines objects that introduced colour and new materials into the sculptural process, situating them within the context of the anxiety which often weighed upon Victorian society in the face of social change and scientific advances.” See Exhibition Website on Henry-moore.org

ArtDaily.com: “ This historical exhibition will see significant works reinterpreted for the contemporary world. The Colour of Anxiety features largely white male artists who drove the art world in the nineteenth century. The narratives that their works embody have come into scrutiny in recent years by contemporary artists reconsidering a Western art history that reveals both racist and sexist attitudes and the exclusion of women and people of colour. To highlight the relevance of these debates in today’s critical landscape, the exhibition will also feature several recent works, including the late photographer Maud Sulter’s Calliope 1989, to question the power of the European classical tradition and the contested figure of the Black female in Victorian visual culture.” Read Full Article on ArtDaily.com

The grand staircase of Versailles at Oldway Mansion, Paignton, Devon, United Kingdom,
The grand staircase of Versailles, which was destroyed in 1752, has cast a European shadow. This astonishing re-creation of 1904-07, based on engravings, is at Oldway Mansion the private residence of Isaac Singer, and rebuilt by his son Paris Singer in the style of the Palace of Versailles.

Thank you to everyone who helped Team Brown (Trench)Coats complete 204 tasks in a week!
One can only play GISH with the help of family, friends, and kind strangers! We are grateful to everyone who joined in on a challenge, helped us locate an obscure item, helped us brainstorm how to find something, joined us in large group endeavours like the “I Will Vote” challenge, and generally took time to help us meet our crazy goal of completing as many challenges as we possibly could (and doing them well)!
When you look through our gallery of photos and images, please remember that it took at least a village to get these done!
We want to thank:
