You know, the funniest thing about "The Moon will Sing" by The Crane Wives being such a popular song for ships is that it is definitely not a love song.
It's a song about a toxic dynamic between two people, one likely having raised the other.
The song is about being forced into a mold someone else has made for you. The feelings that you had long since buried, only feeling apathy after everything.
It's about blindly walking on a path someone else has made for you, without any regard to whether or not it was a path you wanted cause it didn't matter.
It talks about the neglect and exhaustion that begins to weigh on you when these choices that you were forced to take pile up. And yet, you still let it lie cause you're tired and weary, and you just want to let it be.
The Moon is the abused, someone who was never let to have any 'light', meaning choice, unless the abuser- The Sun gave them the light. And because of that, the Moon longs for the freedom of choice and in turn loves the moon for what little they give them.
Then you finally talk to the Sun again and you you argue. You see how the Sun, even throughout its decisions, has doubts and questions their choices. You, the Moon, see the Sun hesitate, but swallow that doubt up, and it fills you with anger and you demand to feel the fire, the freedom, that was kept from you for so long. You long for it's warmth.
Even so, its works for a lot of the ships because in the end, the lines;
"The Moon will song a song for me,
'I loved you like the Sun.'..
Bore with shadows that you made,
with no light of my own."
are easily allowed to fit the dynamic of a lot of couples.
Because there can always be the hint of over ideation of the person you love. In turn, you make yourself infeior to them in your mind. You can easily make yourself the Moon and the other person the Sun for this reason.
So in this essay, I'd like to explain why " The Moon Will Sing" is perfect for all the couples in Alien Stage-

getting real tired of people who are shitting on “found family” more generally as a narrative concept and specifically named familial dynamics in fan interpretation of characters in particular because it all seems to be getting painted with a really wide and really homogenous brush. “we need to take found family away from people because they think it all has to be In Nuclear Family Terms and do you know friendship exists and you don’t have to call these characters siblings to legitimize their relationship while making it clear you Don’t Ship Them Ew Gross and THEN you sneer at people who Do ship them” cool cool that is a lot of really intense characterization and assigning of motive to other people en bloc!
like sure there’s some meaningful critique to be found in a broad trend to label every single relationship directly and specifically with terms that have very specific contexts and roles but im waiting to be told when anyone IS by the standards of people making and reblogging these very sweepingly generalized posts allowed to call a relationship parental or whatever. is that Ever allowed. who is handing out the permits. sometimes a specific term for a relationship isn’t actually about wanting an excuse to sneer about your ship (and frankly there’s a lot of projection going on there imo from people who are actively sneering about other people’s interpretation of a relationship!) and it’s because there are very specific contexts and details about a dynamic that makes exploring it from the lens of siblings or whatever very rich and compelling and interesting because words mean things and assuming everyone is just being reductive and demanding conformity to a nuclear family is, ironically, really reductive.
so like. cool it. stop being really fucking mean about people having an interpretation of a dynamic you personally don’t like or makes you feel a little weird or uncomfy because you ship them.

Anon, please don't send me other people's posts like this. I wouldn't like someone grabbing my posts from my space and bringing them over to someone else's space without giving me the chance to debate as needed, so I don't want to do this to other people 😔
If you just want my opinion on Akane's line, Akane takes Kana's acting detours personally because she loves her as an actress. She feels that instead of doing what she wants and acting the way she wants, Kana has been catering to other people. And she is right. The only thing she doesn't know is that Kana has kept practicing, but Akane is thrilled to find out that Kana still has it in her because she is actress!Kana's biggest fan lol
I don't think the staff is indifferent to Akane. I distinctly remember one of them was thrilled when Akane topped the weekly female character popularity list, and some Japanese Kana fans replied to them to complain about them showing favoritism 😂 So basically, just ignore them! Block if you need to!
Back to the anime though, I personally do find it kind of disappointing that Akane has gotten so little merch and that every other drawing is Kana. The anime staff aren't the only ones who do this though, even Mengo just drew Kana for Natsucomi lol So it really feels like they all jus treated this as the Kana season. Whether this was done deliberately or simply to stay true to the source material which does highlight Kana during this portion of the story, we'll have to wait until S2 to find out. If Akane gets the same treatment, then they were just staying true to the source material. If they somehow find a way to keep highlighting Kana despite her limited focus during the two upcoming arcs, then we will know for sure and we'll also know what to expect in the manga lol
That said, guys, I'm sorry 😭 I keep getting Kana & Aq/Kan related asks so I'll start skipping them unless they're about something I personally want to comment on. If you just want to vent, I get you and you're more than welcome to vent away in my inbox! But I hope you don't mind that I don't reply to it. I just want my blog to go back to Akane and AquaKane, the way it's supposed to be lol
