14, 20, 21 for the fandom ask? ๐Ÿ™
14. the ship that always makes you smile
I'm prone to getting a tunnel-vision when I'm fixated on something, so currently nothing beats Pingxie, but Hualian is always right up there around the top of the list.
20. your very first fandom!
It's kind of a tossup between LotR and HP. I've known and loved LotR since I was five, but only really started to discover fandom as a concept when I got into HP, so of course these two were the first I looked up.
21. a fandom you're not active in anymore but that you still really like
Ah, Les Misรฉrables. Sure, some parts of the fandom are kinda bad for my blood-pressure, but there's a nice canon-era focused, research-happy nieche I really enjoy. I still follow some blogs from there even if I don't really interact with the fandom anymore.

IM SCREAMING
So anyway I Love new Louis
Gonna go on a ramble for a moment now. I also Love that the show is dropping some of Lestats backstory (from his book) clearly much earlier. And how Louis is framing it as they actually became close friends first, before him suddenly finding out about the vampire thing and getting changed. As he says, he was seduced over time, and I enjoy watching it.
I think the change to a slow seduction of human BEFORE turning Louis fits well in the modern world of post human/vampire romance galore we are currently in, as there's more desire for that slow exploration in some ways. In another way, I think this initial relationship presentation screams the kind of tension of characters like Aziraphale/Crowley had in Good Omens. Oh the line "we are very good friends." In some show of the past, 10 or 20 years ago, that might be subtext but. Here it's absolutely loaded with meaning. Louis is narrating to make it clear he likes men, that he liked Lestat and felt seduced, and of course Louis's sister asking to meet Lestat mirrors her bringing her fiance to dinner the same night. These are all significantly large changes from the book, and yet I am enjoying that it aims to hit the sweet spot of mortal/immortal romance, of friends to lovers High tension (that so many 10 year ago shows capitalized on as subtext only but this show so thickly intensely is using for overt romance). So of course, it changes the feeling of their dynamic to very romance heavy (which like yeah it was but in the book Louis is initially grieving and depressed and that outweighs any other main feeling). As I've mentioned, I'm seeing this as an AU take where things may vastly diverge. And so i can see and appreciate this particular diversion, which appeals to a lot of more modern vampire genre trends then twists them back into the densely rich relationship Louis and Lestat originally had. So it adds this layer I think modern vampire romance often lacks of slow build tension, and very heavy tension as this is adults with many responsibilities and pains weighing on them - no longer teenagers in first love (but which Buffy did a bit, and which pingxie in dmbj actually appeals to me for similar reason).
And then also. The show brings some aspects or Louis from the book into deeper highlight than the old movie (even though of course some of Louis's backstory and initial time period are hugely changed). His close relationship wirh his sister is HERE, which I loved in the book and how he cared for her and stayed close to her even as a vampire (which may be the case in the show moving forward). How Paul was so important to Louis and someone Louis feels personally responsible for and intensely close to (which the old movie skipped). I also noticed the Freniere name drop with the sisters fiance! So one may expect at somr point Freniere is going to do something stupid, he may well have a sister Babette who Louis gets to know, and Freniere may well do something "cruel" which Lestat wants to hunt and kill him for. (While the old movie had Lestat as evil killer, its learned in later books he likes to kill humans who are killers, so given this show is mentioning some of Lestats family childhood and parents, it may well let the audience know this preference of Lestat with hunting much earlier than the books).
And then just. An interesting choice to me to keep Louis in the dark about Lestat being a vampire for a while. Just an interesting change to watch. So far I enjoy seeing all the unique sort of alternate ways these characters are being used. It does feel very much alternate universe, with a certain care to retain some portion of their core traits while seeing how changed setting/time period affects others.
Also the "I was going to St Louis, but it seems I was meant to go to the person not the place." Is sappy as all fuck but I kind of loved it
Anyway sjjsj as promised will be live blogging lol. I'm only 37 minutes in so do not spoil me ToT

all the prime numbers on that salty ask list, just to make you do math on a saturday morning >:3
........................ man come on
Okay fine we're doing all the prime numbers on this list. I'll humor you.
2. Any popular fandom OTPs that you only BroTP?
Fuck idk uhh I was never really a fan of SangYao romantically?
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
I will just say yes and leave it at that.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Pingxie isn't that bad and I see the appeal behind it but some of y'all are too much there I said it.
7. Is there anything you used to like but canโ€™t stand now?
I mean... those of you who have known me for a while probably know that I used to be into h*talia but keep that shit away from me now.
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesnโ€™t? Why?
Not really? No one is coming to mind.
13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
I think we should let Xiaoge be a weird little guy. He's been through enough shit he should be able to do whatever the hell he wants he can't be sexy all the time.
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happenโ€ฆ
Instead of The Entirety of Yi City Happening, Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen stay together and wander the world and eventually settle down and found a sect together I think that would be nice.
19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
Oh boy. *cracks knuckles*
I was not looking forward to this section but I think some of you need to chill. Please. We're here to have fun. This may be a hard pill to swallow but sometimes you gotta accept that people didn't ask. They didn't ask for shipping opinions, they didn't ask for watchlists, they didn't ask to have the same fandom experiences as you. And sometimes things that are canon are worse. There's more to a show than romance and more to romance than two conventionally attractive people making eye contact. Thank you.
23. Unpopular character you love?
Song Lan did nothing wrong.

for the fandom blorbo ask thing did you already get dmbj?? if u did that one already then i'll take a shovel and dig out any memories of bnk characters you've got
My dear friend my beloved thank you for giving me another opportunity to dump more of this bullshit on you.
Blorbo: Pangzi my beloved my everything. He's supposed to be the fat guy comic relief but carries the series honestly.
Skrunkly: I'd say Zhang Rishan but just the bright eyed young man he is in Mystic Nine, not yet the Juimen President and weirdo that he is in Tomb of the Sea. Off topic but it's very important to me that I tell you about this one scene from Tomb of the Sea in which he and Liang Wan, a miraculously still alive female character and his love interest are leaving the desert and she tells him "hey I'm still kinda in love with you" to which he responds "sorry. I've dedicated my life to Fo Ye, my dead boss from the 1930s." And then she blasts him with pepper spray. In the desert.
Scrimblo bimblo: Ba Ye. This funky little man. I've only had him for three episodes of Mystic Nine and I love him.
Glup shitto: Kanjian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what has made my brain latch onto that slingshot himbo but I don't care. Highlights include teaching Wu Xie how to use a slingshot so he can cheat on a test and a guy dragging him into a meeting like "hey I found this guy outside can we keep him?"
Poor little meow meow: Wang Can I guess. He's an asshole but by god was he fun. And Hei Xiazi, who only falls under the pathetic category.
Horse plinko: Liu Sang. He gets whumped to hell and back and we love to see it.
Eeby deeby: Oh absolutely Chen Pi. I've only had him for three episodes of Mystic Nine and I hate him. The living embodiment of "I also choose this guy's dead wife" and a freak (derogatory) among freaks (affectionate). Crimes include wanting to fuck his master's wife and putting Zhang Qiling in a basket.

I just found out your blog and i love it when there is a fan who both read the books, watched the adaptations AND SPEAK ENGLISH!!??
also your arguments are so on point I love it
i heard NPSS is preparing for Tibetan sea flower adaptation. Can you tell me your choice of actors for the Iron triangle in it?
much love โค
awwwww thank you! I knooow, I'm like still... I need to learn chinese to get access to all the pingxie fanfiction, bc I've read literally everything and I'm like... but there's so many in chinese T_T and I'm russian, so I ate everything there too and I'm still like upset I can't have more. but yeah, at least we have great translation of all of the books.
but in tibetan sea flower there's no xiaoge, just a statue of xiaoge xD
idk to be honest, bc I love only two casts and for me ultimate note cast is perfect fot everything before the bronze gate up until the finale, and for everything after 10 years, I want reboot cast to continue with it, bc it's really to me the most perfect one.
but this particular book is like 5 years after xiaoge left, so it's kinda in the middle and I'm having troubles imagining both cast there, esp ultimate note one, since joseph would be just way too young for this. and as a pangzi wuxie duo I think this part can pull off only reboot cast.
so idk how this will go tbh, bc they need cast strong enough to keep ppl invested without xiaoge, bc sadly many in this fandom automatically for some reason don't care if he isn't there, even if the whole plot of this book is about wuxie digging up about his past.
I'm still interested to see the cast tho, just bc I'm curious, but I doubt they can impress me for some reason. but I always give each part a fair chance plus since npss is the screenwriter, that at least means wuxie's character will be on point.

2020 โ€“ a (content creator) year in review
I decided to make this into a mix of these two games I was (kinda?) tagged into so thank you for @leonzhng and @tiesanjiao โ™ฅ I hope you donโ€™t mind me doing it like this ^^ all the questions were just so interesting that I wanted to try!
(bc of the amount of questions, Iโ€™m placing them under a cut so that I donโ€™t flood anyoneโ€™s dash)ย
Me
(this is the 2020 year in review that hanyi tagged me to โ™ฅ sorry am so late!)
Top 5 Movies you saw this year
wow tbh I didnโ€™t watch many movies this year as I realized yesterday when I was thinking about this for certain reasons. Or at least I feel like I didnโ€™t watch that many? Nothing really stuck with me it seems.
Because of this, I will only mention two: Parasite and The Old Guard. Those were both wonderful in their own ways and Iโ€™m very happy I got to watch them both ^^
Top 5 TV shows you watched this year
this one is difficult bc I watched so many (and forgot even more?) but:
The Lost Tomb Reboot (my introduction to DMBJ. this drama stole my heart and helped me through the tough autumn semester!)ย
Joy of Life (itโ€™s nuts that this happened during 2020? it feels like it was ages ago)
Kingdom (such a positive surprise and I really hope we get more of this :o I really recommend!)
Detective L (easy, nice aesthetics, amazing costumes. Bai Yu was a delight as Luo Fei)
Sand Sea (I am still baffled by how much I loved this bc I had so many doubts? am happy I did tho)
Bonus: Guardian (bc it has come to stay and the rewatch has been so emotional but so rewarding)
Top 5 songs of 2020
this is a tough one too bc Iโ€™ve heard so much new music during 2020 but I will try to put it simply:
Black Swan by BTS (I absolutely adore this song. I listened to it on repeat when it came out at the beginning of the year, I have cried for it a ton, I enjoy every stage I see for it and itโ€™s just a masterpiece. it has also helped a bit with my writing struggles that Iโ€™ve felt creeping up on me lately)
Always by By The Coast (an amazing song that always leaves me in my feels. inspires me a lot all the time)
Love me or Leave me by DAY6 (this whole album was a masterpiece and I listened to it on loop for like. two weeks? this was my favorite song on it even if I adored the rest too, especially Zombie)
all of my life by Park Won (listened to this a lot in relation to my xicheng and the wedding I finally got to write for them ;; thatโ€™s one good thing that came out of this year tbh)
้›จไบบ by ๅˆ˜็•… (Liu Chang) (with the Rebootโ€™s ending song, this one is my favorite on that ost. I love Liu Changโ€™s voice, I loved Liu Sang as a character and as I said, I loved Reboot as a drama. I get super emotional about this ost so I think it defined this year a lot for me)
Top 5 books you read in 2020 ย
All For The Game -trilogy (listened to these as audiobooks but that counts right?)
The Song of Achilles (as an audiobook too and really adored the readerโ€™s voice)
The Smoke Thieves -series (I really just binge read the two first books in this series and am so excited for the next one!)
Call Down The Hawk (love love love)
Guardian novel (am not very into these novels usually but I was positively surprised this time? it was so cool to finally get the original story and compare it with the drama version)
5 positive things that happened in 2020
joined mdzsnet and met all the amazing ppl there and got to become part of this loving community and :โ€™) Iโ€™m so thankful, itโ€™s been a joy
learned more about editing? or started doing it regularly. I still canโ€™t do shit but am having fun learning more all the time and I really hope that maybe the upcoming year I can switch to PS and try out giffing?
went to Halseyโ€™s concert! it was in february so a bit before all the hassle with covid happened over here ;; it was super cool and so nice and I just. I love Halsey
fell into the DMBJ hellhole which am very much enjoying. itโ€™s a great universe and the story is so good and the dramas have been so fun to watch and. it feels like a good continuation to The Untamed somehow haha (also brought me a new friend! youโ€™re amazing ashen!! โ™ฅ)
started therapy and itโ€™s been... a journey. but towards something better I think? itโ€™s something I wouldโ€™ve needed ages ago but itโ€™s better late than never I suppose
My Creations
(this is the other part where ali was being super sweet and mentioned me โ™ฅ thank you for being so awesome!)
1. first creation and most recent creation of 2020:ย wow itโ€™s been a while since Iโ€™ve looked at this horrible creation but here ya go jkdhgk [x]. Iโ€™ve come a long way from this (and my xicheng has come a long way from this too). most recent one is this xiaoge edit that I absolutely adore [x].ย
2. one of your favorite creations from 2020: this wwx edit that was part of my agust d2 edit series [x]. I loved to give him blue instead of his typical red.ย
3. a new style you tried this year and a gifset edit that uses it: this [x] wwx edit which I donโ€™t know if I like or not but I was playing around with the font and all the effects instead of just normal screenshots + coloring. also I just adore the quote.ย
4. a creation to be proud of: I could mention that xiaoge here but in addition, I will also say this wu xie edit for reboot [x]. I managed to capture my vision so well, I was surprised. for cql, this songxiao edit [x]. I loved how it turned out in the end.ย
5. a creation that took forever: this wangxian edit [x]. like Iโ€™ve said several times, I lost sleep bc of it. I just kept struggling with the third pic and how to place the text there D:ย
6. your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: this lwj/wangxian edit [x]. I had many ideas for this edit when I first started making it and I never managed to capture my vision in the way I first intended... the pictures I was supposed to use just never fit quite right sigh. I dunno why it was this one that gained all the notes in the end bc I personally think I have better ones too but am still thankful :โ€™Dย
7. a creation you think deserved more notes: as said, dmbj fandom on tumblr is very small so I really want to say the two already mentioned ones (wu xie and xiaoge) and then my pingxie edits [x] [x]. also these wwx edits which I personally am very happy about [x] [x]. and from my agust d2 series, this yun bros one [x].
8. a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: really just dmbj this year and Iโ€™ve already linked all of my creations for that :โ€™D tho I have plans for another pingxie edit and a liu sang edit! oh and maybe I could mention guardian here with this shen wei [x]. I had so much fun while making it (also the quote just haunted me relentlessly until I gave it a moment).ย
9. a creation you made that breaks your heart: this must be my easter islanders (lwj and jc) edit [x] that just. awoke many thoughts in me? Iโ€™m going to put a link to the version where you can read my ramblings underneath :โ€™Dย
10. aย โ€˜simpleโ€™ creation that you really love: my creation for the creator (gif?) challenge that was going around! [x] it was simple and nice to do and I loved the result. also, it was nice to work with jl for a change :โ€™)ย
11. a favorite creation created by someone else: oh wow ok so this is going to be rough bc I have so many favorites ;; you can look at this post here [x] to see more!ย
but to love my two taggers am going to say these [xย /ย x] [x] [x] [x] [x] by hanyi (I always love your edits, the colors you choose, the thoughts you put into them (and your humor too!). there are so many cool things youโ€™ve done that I just stay in awe of! so for august i have just been doing more of last monthโ€™s stuff. I still want to finish the last 7 chapters of the pingxie fanfic I was reading.
I found this beijing station with english instruction, which is just fairly easy to listen to (Iโ€™ve been listening to some of radio garden):ย http://radio.garden/listen/beijing-foreign-language-am-774/eei_lz2I
Iโ€™m rewatching Guardian, and I really do know pretty much all new words if I just READ them in the chinese subs, so Iโ€™m starting to just watch with the chinese only and english transcript to the side (on the computer) so I can look up an occasional word when I need to.ย https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdRj_d7_skE
I found a Qi Ye audiobook, so now Iโ€™ve got one for Qi Ye and Tian Ya Ke. So I plan to listen to that more as I get to reading that. I listened to SaYeโ€™s audiobook a little (its on Youtube on the channel Panda with a very lovely voice), and I think I plan to read SaYe as soon as I finish the pingxie fic, because when reading I know almost every word (and can learn the rest through context or lookup) so when I listen to the audiobook I can follow a LOT on my first listen but I could probably understand it ALL if I read through the actual text beforehand.
Read this article today on how watching in target language subs/audio can improve your language skills (https://www.rev.com/blog/learn-new-language-subtitles). Not surprising but good to know, as thatโ€™s my current more-audio study strategy, since I can practice learning new words in context and HEARING them.
i played the intro of japanese persona 2 and oh man. 1 i definitely lost some of the japanese i acquired grinding japanese last month, and 2 just the sheer difficulty curve adjustment drained me. Right now my chinese is starting to get into a place where as long as thereโ€™s text/some familiarity, I donโ€™t necessarily have to strain very much to understand things. With japanese its more like my chinese was at 8 months in and like... thatโ€™s just barely functional with a dictionary, but very focus intensive. So iโ€™ll probably just stick with kingdom hearts 2 for japanese (since i truly know that game so well its still not mentally intensive on me) and then try a less familiar game like persona 2 once i have more japanese knowledge.

Lantern
Wishes. Incognito and elusive. One must murmur wishes under his breath in order to maintain the sacredness of its secrecy. If I was standing on the same ground of Pingxi Old Street, Taiwan 15 years ago - I would be doing my child like mind an injustice. Writing wishes on a lantern, setting it up to fly and having every prying eyes to read just doesn't seem right. Aren't wishes supposedly kept secret? Aren't they cursed and forbidden to be shared immensely to public? Aren't they our deepest desires, meant to be hidden inside our deepest of minds? Taiwanese all will then be doomed of unkept wishes for taking part in this Lantern Festival they call a tradition. An unintended repercussion of their culture and beliefs.
Fast forward to now, me being 23, unbiased and aware of how silly all that sounded. It is silly because it's unreasonable. And me being beyond just my age do I finally understand the Law of Attraction. What you think, you become. What you hope for, is what is meant for. What you declare, everyone is made aware. Gone were the days wherein you murmur your wishes every time you blow your birthday cakes and toss in coins on a wishing well. Gone were the days you shyly hoped and prayed for a miracle. And gone were the sociological interpretation of what would've been if done this or done that. What I wrote on the four corner of the lantern was just this: Health, Success, Love and Genuine Happiness.
It is amazing how not one from the above-mentioned Wishlist involved any material thing, nor anything that of pleasure. The juxtaposition of them is this, they do not resonate true happiness. In the 21st century where social media is the norm and validation come from the number of likes - one can easily get lost in the whirlpool of pretentious lifestyles. I, for one, can attest to that. Because why am I still blogging? If print is dead and blogging is extinct - why am I still rambling musings on this little corner of the world-wide web I call my blog? "Instagrammers" and/or "Youtubers" are the new bloggers and "Influencers" are the new celebrities. Writing is obsolete. Print is dead. And blogging is extinct. But then I continue to do so. Because I realised that the only validation I need is from myself. To argue if one is valid is an understatement. And the meaning of living a life well lived is not only being the shiniest of them all.
Casting upon wishes, unselfish and unmetered at that, is rare. Genuine happiness comes from living a life of contentment. It may or may not sound absurd to some, but it is true. I am at the point of my life wherein I feel contented. That fact suddenly holds value in everything. Family is loving. Career is booming. Travel is expanding. Friends are lasting. Love is promising. And if there is one wish I would like to cast upon the world as I fly this lantern up the sky, it's this: May everyone experience, at one point or another, the kind of life I am living and the kind of contentment I am consuming. Because today, I feel like I'm at my happiest. And that I think is my purest state.

Travel Cheap: How I Spent 3 Days and 2 Nights in Taiwan for Only PHP 10,000
Out of Town Blog Travel Cheap: How I Spent 3 Days and 2 Nights in Taiwan for Only PHP 10,000
Taiwan Itinerary: 3 Days and 2 Nights in Taiwan for Only PHP 10,000
Thinking of how I can immediately escape my stressful work and the never-ending reports, I went to Taiwan without even planning on anything. I just booked my flight, my hostel, and thatโ€™s it. I did not bother asking my boss if I can go on leave for three days. I just asked him a week before my intended trip so he doesnโ€™t have any choice but to approve my request.
Since I purchased a promo ticket, the plane arrived 2 hours past midnight. The line to the Taiwanโ€™s immigration is extremely long since itโ€™s South Korea and Japanโ€™s spring break. The line was almost not moving because there are a lot of students.
After passing through the immigration and exchanging some of my money, the Taoyuan Airport MRT going to Taipei is still closed so I took a bus going to the city which caused me 125 TWD (around 200 in Philippine Peso).
DAY 1
I arrived at the hostel, UINN Travel Hostel at around 4 in the morning. Thinking I can take a bath and get some sleep, I was surprised to know that the check-in time is 3PM. Luckily, the people in the hostel were very nice and kind enough to let me stay in their lobby to take some rest. Eva, the front desk personnel, also offered me some drinks and caramel popcorn.
After sleeping for hours on their comfy couch, I checked in at exactly 1PM and took a bath. Since I donโ€™t have any itineraries with me and it is already late in the afternoon, I decided to check the nearest sightseeing places near my hostel.
Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall
Most of the sightseeing places in Taiwan is actually free so you will save a lot of money while still enjoying.
My first stop is the popular Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. Chiang Kai-Shek was a nationalist leader and self-appointed President of the Republic of China.
Not only will you see the Memorial Hall, you will also see the Concert Hall and the National Theater in one area.
The Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is open until 6 in the evening. If you will go there before their closing time, you will see the soldiers removing Taiwanโ€™s national flag complete with their routines.
Hua Xi Street Night Market
Taiwan is famous for their night markets. You can find almost anything in their night markets: from cheap clothes, souvenirs, massages, accessories, skin care products, electronics, and of course, food.
Hua Xi Street night market is a perfect stop if you want to taste Taiwanโ€™s authentic snacks. With just 100 TWD, you can already taste their signature pork buns and peanut rolls.
Taipei 101
Before I went back to my hostel, I decided to visit Taipei 101. Taipei 101 was once the worldโ€™s tallest building. It serves as an icon of Taiwan.
Taipei 101 has a high-speed elevator to its observatory on the 89th floor. It only took us 37 seconds to reach the top.
DAY 2
After exploring the places in Taipei, I decided to explore the beauty of Northern Taiwan and see the Spirited Away setting in person. I also allotted my second day to take a dip in Taiwanโ€™s hot spring.
Shifen
The Shifen Old Streets is located in Pingxi area. Shifen is a famous tourist spot not only for the Instagram-worthy train tracks but also because you can release a Chinese Sky Lantern in this place.
Near the Shifen Old Street is the Shifen Waterfall which is 20-meters tall and is considered as the most scenic in Taiwan.
Jiufen
If you are a fan of Spirited Away like me, you must put Jiufen in the places you will go in Taiwan. Jiufen was once a gold mining town but was turned into a popular tourist destination to give its visitors a feel of Taiwanโ€™s past.
Jiufen is also the home of the most unique teahouses in Taiwan. If you will go to Jiufen, make sure that you are not full. Each stall that you will pass by offers free tastes of their treats: From mochis to sausages, to candies and even fruit juices.
Beitou Hot Springs
After a tiring day walking and tasting Taiwanโ€™s delicacies, I went to Beitou to relax my sore muscles and joints.
Beitou is popular for their accommodations with hot springs and their public baths. Since I donโ€™t intend to stay in the place overnight, I went to Beitou Garden Spa or also known as Millennium Hot Springs. Unlike other public baths, you will not go naked here. You just need to be in your swimwear. After paying 60 TWD, I took a dip and relaxed like a local in their hot springs.
DAY 3
My last day in Taiwan. I used this last day to see cherry blossoms, the Sun Lake, and visit the One Piece attraction of Taiwan.
There are several places where you can see cherry blossoms during spring. Since Alishan is quite far and I donโ€™t have enough time, I went to the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village instead.
Sun Moon Lake
Before you will reach the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village, you need to ride a boat around Sun Moon Lake. Personally, I donโ€™t like traveling on water. However, the beauty of Sun Moon Lake mesmerized me.
What makes Sun Moon Lake exciting is the several stations that it has. Each of these stations is unique. You can get to meet their locals or pray with the monks for peace and security.
Gondola Ride
From the Sun Moon Lake, to reach the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village, you need to ride a gondola or cable car. Unlike the Gondola in Taipei Zoo or Mongkok Gondola in Hong Kong, Sun Moon Lakeโ€™s gondola is very long. It took us nearly 20 minutes to reach the village.
Make sure to prepare your camera or video recorder when you ride the Sun Moon Lake Gondola: You will see the beauty of Sun Moon Lake 360 degrees full!
Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village
Donโ€™t be fooled by its name. If you think the place is boring, think twice. The Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village is a big amusement park.
The place has several rides: Merry go round, 5D theater, and rollercoaster to name a few. Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village also houses their One Piece museum. You can see your favorite anime characters, take some photos, and even bring home a souvenir to remind you of your trip.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
Taipei is a small country but there are a lot of places to travel to. My 3 days trip was not enough so I already decided to come back to see more of Taiwan.
Now that Filipinos can enter Taiwan visa-free, make sure to make the most out of your trip. Traveling and having fun does not always have to be expensive.
TOTAL EXPENSES
Would you believe I only spent PHP 10,000 for my whole trip, airline ticket included? Hereโ€™s the breakdown of all the expenses I made:
IN PHP
2,100 = Airline Ticket (I booked the ticket using the Traveloka app)
1,500 = Hostel for three days (free breakfast, tea, coffee, and water so I saved a lot of money)
1,000 = Dinner for three days (Since we have free breakfast that includes bread and crackers, I bring a bunch with me which saved me a lot of money. I also brought a water bottle with me to save costs)
2,500 = Souvenirs for my officemates and family members
IN TWD (Conversation: 1 TWD = 1.60 PHP)
500 = Easy Pass (I used 240 going to Jiufen; 100 TWD is a deposit and you will get this back after returning the card)
800 =ย  Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village Package
60 = Beitou Hot Springs entrance
250 = Bus from the Airport to Taipei, vice versa
All in all, I only spent around PHP 9,700 (excluding the Travel Tax that I paid in advance using a credit card).
TIPS TO SAVE MONEY
Take advantage of your bank. The airport has a very low exchange rate. You can exchange your USD to TWD or withdraw directly from an ATM.
Use your feet. Taipei is a very walkable city. I saved a lot of money by walking. Plus, it is safe and clean! You donโ€™t need to worry about your backpack or belongings since Taiwanese are friendly and disciplined.
Get an Easy Card. You can use your Easy Card in riding buses, trains, and even paying for your food.
You donโ€™t need to get a pocket wifi. I want to enjoy my trip to the fullest and I am just alone so I opt not to rent a pocket wifi. There are a lot of hotspots offering free wifi in Taipei, too.
Bring a water bottle. Although water is not really expensive, it will save you 20 TWD every time you are refilling your water bottle. There are a lot of clean drinking water stations in the MRT stations.

Tumblr media
First of all, I AM NOT the authors/writers of these fics. I DO NOT own any of these amazing fanfictions. I WILL NOT repost these fanfics without authorization. I will only recommend them to you. If you find that it is inappropriate to recommend the fanfic here. Please let me know, I will delete it immediately.
The link (if there is any) will only lead to the fanfictions that the authors/writers posted themselves, such as AO3, Lofter, Weibo, their personal websites, etc. After much deliberation, I will only share the author's personal website link via private message.
I will try my best to provide the link, but some fanfictions are quite old and difficult to track down. However, if you are really interested to read that fic, you can search it directly on web browser. Since I couldn't confirm the authorization and because of the strict rules, I can't share it here.
The fic recs here are based on my personal preferences. Everyone has their own standard and level of acceptance. So, please be considerate. It is also because of this matter that a warning is needed to serve as a precaution, I have no intention to offense anyone. I will put a warning if it is necessary, but I will not give any OOC warnings (unless the author/writer said it themselves). If you think there is something more to add on, feel free to tell me.
Most of the fic recs here are probably in Chinese, of course it does not mean that I am against English fics. It is all the same as long as it suits my taste and also it is no secret that there is a lot of food in Chinese fandom.
Chinese fanfiction is different than English fanfiction, sometimes there is no summary, no tags, and the rating is basically just "no R", "with R", or "high R". Therefore, I added some additional details that were intended only for better understanding of what you are going to read and I by no means have any intention to disrespect anyone, especially the authors/writers.
Please note that I cannot speak Chinese (but it didn't stop me lol). I just like to wander in Chinese fandom and desperately use machine translation apps to read. That being said, it is hard for me to completely capture the real nuances of a fanfic in Chinese language, I may only understand the gist or the vibe with my reading comprehension. So, if there is any weird translation, misinterpretation, and misunderstanding, forgive me in advance. Maybe you can kindly help me to fix it :)
I hope someone will translate them properly someday, and of course with their permissions >.<
I will only recommend the fics that I have read before. So, if you want to suggest a fanfiction it will take some time to put it here, although I doubt anyone would even read this blog haha. If there is any, thank you!
No regular updates.
This is my first time doing something like this. If there are some small changes here and there, sorry for the inconvenience. Any suggestions are welcome :D
Last but not least, this blog is PingXie ONLY ใ€็“ถ้‚ชONLYใ€‘.
Tumblr media
๐Ÿชท๐“๐“ซ๐“ธ๐“พ๐“ฝ ๐“œ๐“ฎ๐Ÿชท
No one seems to care about my preferences, but due to the huge difference between Daomu Biji Chinese fandom and English-speaker fandom (it seems the attribute is important in Chinese fandom), I feel like to explain it here just in case to avoid misunderstanding.
I am PingXie Only, which means that I do not ship (or recommend) any ship/cp(s) who tear PingXie apart, and I do not accept switching either. My attitude towards other cp(s) are basically neutral or to put it bluntly I don't really care, anyway it is normal to have different preferences and opinions, but please do not cross the line and cause unnecessary trouble, everyone respects each other like an adult should be.
In my understanding, โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชๆด็™–โ€ in Chinese fandom is very strict, more stricter than PingXie Only, therefore I think I am just โ€œonlyโ€. I have my own judgement to decide which fics I want to recommend, regardless of the writer's attribute. I think it doesn't matter as long as it is tagged properly, do not insult the characters or people, and do not cross my limit of tolerance and acceptance. That's it, the most important of shipping a ship/cp is to be happy :)

Taipei
Tumblr media
Taipei is a small island east of mainland China, and it was a nice break for us since we had six nights there. We found it to be an enjoyable place to go to night markets, eat lots of good food, and also check out some interesting cultural spots, like the National Museum, and nature spots, like Elephant Mountain. It was especially interesting being in Taiwan given that it has been in the US news recently. Taiwan, also known as the Republic of China, considers itself to be an independent country. However, China views it as part of China that will one day be reunified. If a country wants to have diplomatic relations with China, it needs to accept Chinaโ€™s position on this and not have official ties with Taiwan.ย Trump caused some controversy a couple of months ago when he was the first US leader to take a call from a Taiwanese president since 1979. However, while we were in Taipei, we learned that Trump had spoken to the leader of China and agreed to abide by theย โ€œOne Chinaโ€ policy.ย
Highlights
-Huaxi Night Market- This small market was a combination of some really tasty food and really weird booths and shops. For example, there was one booth where the guy was just selling calculators. There were also an inordinate amount of porn DVD shops.ย
-Meander hostel- We loved our hostel. They had several different activities, like a free walking tour through the Ximending neighborhood and a movie night (we watched Pulp Fiction).
-Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall changing of the guard- A huge national monument that is in memory of the former president of the Republic of China. Every hour, there is a changing of the guard ceremony for the guards who are watching his statue. It was quite the show!
Tumblr media
-View of the city and Taipei 101 from Elephant Mountain- This was a relatively short hike up (under half an hour), but it was all stairs. I was panting by the time we got to the top, but the view was worth it. We went at sunset so we were able to see the sun going down over the city.ย
Tumblr media
-Addiction Aquatic- This is a gourmet seafood market. For all you Chicago people, imagine a smaller Marianoโ€™s with just seafood. When you first walk in, there are lots of tanks with crabs. Some of them are HUGE and look like sea monsters.
Tumblr media
-Pingxi Lantern festival- As Dan posted before, this is one of the coolest things weโ€™ve done on the trip. The Discovery Channel called this the second biggest NYE celebration in the world. Everyone buys lanterns and writes their hopes and wishes for the year on them and then sends them up in to the sky. There were 8 official launches, where groups send them up together. We bought one earlier in the day with Leslie. There were four different colors on it, representing luck, health, success, and safety. We wrote our wishes for each of these things on the four panels (looking at you, Notre Dame championship). Then the lantern got lit and we sent it up into the heavens!ย
Tumblr media
-Our market/karaoke evening- We met up with a friend of a friend at Shilin Market (see people section). He brought along two of his friends, and we had some drinks at the Shilin night market. They then took us to the Green Door, a dive bar where their friendโ€™s band was playing. We watched the band, had a bunch of beer, and Leslie and I karaoked to Call Me Maybe. Dan met another new friend and played pool, and we went home at the end of the night tired and smelling like smoke but happy to have made new friends! This was such a random, fun evening, and we are so glad that it happened.ย
-Renting bikes- Dan and I rented bikes through the cityโ€™s bike system (similar to Divvy in Chicago) and biked around for a couple of hours, mostly by the river. It was a fun way to see more of the city than we would have been able to on foot.ย
-Going to Tamsui with Dana, Mark, and Craig- We went to Tamsui, a seaside district, for the afternoon. We grabbed drinks with Craig, Dana, Mark, and their dogs and wandered along the boardwalk.ย
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-National Palace Museum- This museum has ~700,000 artifacts and art from ancient China.ย
Bummers
-It was unseasonably chilly while we were in Taiwan- in the 50โ€ฒs most of the time. However, it was still warmer than Chicago so canโ€™t complain too much!
-There were a couple of creepy dudes the first night who very intensely stared at us for longer than was comfortable. Fortunately, we didnโ€™t get any of this the rest of the time. I think itโ€™s partly cultural though- itโ€™s not as rude to stare at people in other places the way it is in the US.ย
-Leslie leaving- :( :( :( We knew the time had to come but wish it hadnโ€™t come upon us so fast! Leslie headed back to Chicago on the 13th.ย
Tumblr media
Eats
So much eating to do in so little time! We got most of our inspiration from this article:ย http://thesmartlocal.com/read/scoot-to-taipeiย
-Street eats- There was so much good street food in Taipei and it was all so cheap! We stuffed ourselves with the following:
Churro like things- fried dough goodness
Mochi balls with peanuts
Braised pork rice with egg on top (only $1USD)
Pepper bun- cooks by sticking to the inside of this oven, filled with meat and green onions
Popcorn chicken
Small fried crabs that tasted like wheat thins- I enjoyed these (probably wouldnโ€™t have tried them if I hadnโ€™t already had a couple drinks), and Leslie LOVED them
Fried salt and pepper squid- They sell this along the boardwalk in Tamsui. This was another seafood snack that I found myself enjoying, much to my surprise. Itโ€™s chopped into small bits and fried so more appetizing than the entire fried squids on sticks.ย
Scallion pancakes- I had this three times while in Taipei; it was that good. They fry up a pancake like thing and crack and fry an egg underneath it. You can add stuff to it, so I added cheese and bacon. YUM!
Tumblr media
-Shaved ice- a go-to dessert in Taipei. We had mango shaved ice and banana chocolate shaved ice. Such a nice treat and big enough for two people to share. Despite the chilly weather, we had this a couple times during our stay.ย
Tumblr media
-Breakfast at Fuhang Soy Milk- We read about this place in a food blog so braved the line for Chinese breakfast on our first morning in Taipei. We got so much food for only ~$4USD per person!
Tumblr media
-Dumplings at Hangzhou Xiaolong Bao- Because what would another stop in Asia be without dumplings?ย
-Addiction Aquatic- I opted out but Dan and Leslie had cheesy oysters, grilled shrimp, and sashimi bento. They seemed quite pleased with themselves.
Tumblr media
-Kooks- Restaurant on the mountain that Dana, Mark and Craig took us too. We got our Western food fix (macaroni, pesto chicken burger, and french fries). The owner is married to a Canadian expat and her little kids were running around by us; it was a cool spot!
Drinks
-Bubble tea- At Leslieโ€™s encouragement, I tried tea with boba (the bubble like things) for the first time. It was good and filling! The bubbles are fun to chew on but disconcerting when they shoot up your straw while youโ€™re drinking.ย
-Taiwan beer- available in lots of different flavors (mango, grape, honey, etc)
-Ginger tea- available at markets and street food carts. Exactly what it sounds like & good for a cold day.
-Coffee at Wilbeck- This place has fancy brewed coffee and lattes. I got banana hot chocolate.ย
-Funky Fresh bar at the Shilin night market- They had a lot of good craft beers and several fruity beers (kept me happy). Also, some guy thought Dan looked like a celebrity and was delighted when Dan let him take his picture with him.ย
-Beer and Cheese- This place hit the spot. We had tasty beer and cider and grilled cheese sandwiches. Dan had a Reuben sandwich, and I had a pesto cheddar one.
Tumblr media
-Green Door- Craig, Dana, and Mark took us to this local dive bar, complete with cheap beer, locals doing karaoke, and a pool table. It was a good time.ย
People
-Leslie- Leslie was our partner in crime once more for our time in Taipei.ย
-We met some cool people on our walking tour through the hostel- we later met up with one of them, Philip, and his friend Nacho at the lantern festival. Itโ€™s always fun to meet up with fellow travelers.ย
-Craig- Our friend Chris connected us with his buddy from his time in Shanghai. Craig took us out to a bar in the Shilin night market and also joined up with us a couple days later. He has been living in Taipei for ~20 years teaching English, so we enjoyed hearing about his experiences.ย
-Dana and Mark- We met Dana and Mark through Craig. We hung out with them at the Shilin Market and the dive bar, and then they generously took us out with them to Tamsui a couple days later! It was great getting to know them (and meeting their cute dogs!)
Tumblr media
-Aaron- We met Aaron at Green Door. He and Dan instantly bonded, and it was really hard to tear Dan away from their pool game at the end of the night.ย
Observations and Insights
-Most likely to die by: gluttony. So much good street food.ย
-Taiwan is the most gay friendly Asian country other than Thailand. It could be the first Asian country to legalize gay marriage this year.
-There are lots of stray dogs. Groups of them like to hang out in the grass by the river. We saw a super adorable group of 7 puppies. Dan wouldnโ€™t let me touch them, much to my dismay (although I see the wisdom in that).
Tumblr media
-Lots of people are scratching off lottery tickets at little storefronts throughout the city.
-While biking, we saw a lady biking along while listening to opera music. She had two parrots sitting on her handlebars. I aspire to someday be like her.
Tumblr media
-We learned that onion is considered a meat for Buddhists.
-The MRT stations have soundtracks for when the train is arriving and departing. When it is pulling into the station, there is either soothing or triumphant music (one that sounds like an exuberantย โ€œHere comes the brideโ€ song). When it is about to leave, the train starts making noises designed to stress you out.ย
-It is illegal to teach English to children of kindergarten age or younger. However, all of the middle class people want their kids to learn English earlier, so it still happens. In schools where English teachers are teaching the young kids, they have places for the teachers to hide if the school gets raided by the government so that they donโ€™t get deported.ย
Tips
-Get an Easycard. You can use these for public transit and also to buy stuff at places like 7-11.
-Cash is more accepted than credit card. Using small change also seems to be appreciated.ย

Let's Talk About PingXie: Part 2
PingXie "Super Group"
If we talk about Chinese fandom, you may already be familiar with various platforms, such as: Weibo, Lofter (lof/่€็ฆ็‰น), ๅ“”ๅ“ฉๅ“”ๅ“ฉ (Bilibili/B็ซ™), etc.
On Weibo, just like any other topic of discussion, PingXie has its own Super Group/Super Topic/Super Talk "่ถ…่ฏ" (chฤo huร /ch). Super Group is a feature of Weibo where we can talk about the same topic, to put it simply, it's like a fan group. If you have a Weibo account, don't forget to follow it. I think it's rather easy to create an account on Weibo compared to other platforms. Although it's not a must, it's convenient to have an account there.
There are so many super groups related to Daomu Biji; the major super group ็›—ๅข“็ฌ”่ฎฐ, the super group of the characters, the ships, the series, or the events, etc. Since this is a PingXie blog, let's talk about PingXie Super Group โ€œ็“ถ้‚ช่ฏ้ข˜โ€ (tl: PingXie Topic).
Tumblr media
In ็“ถ้‚ช่ฏ้ข˜, you can find many kind of PingXie fanworks, some meta(s) and discussions as well. This is also my starting point where I began exploring in order to look for some food :D But, please note that there are rules that you need to know and abide by before you dive in. Aside from the general rules, some rules may sound strict because of the difference in fandom culture.
Let's take a glimpse on those rules:
1๏ธโƒฃ ็“ถ้‚ชไธๆ‹†ไธ้€† (PingXie is not breaking up and not switching position)
PingXie โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชโ€ is not representative of other ship/cp (especially, the inverse version). It's always been on its own. It's pretty much clear here that โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชโ€ (PingXie) and โ€œ้‚ช็“ถโ€ (XiePing) are two different ships. PingXie don't switch their positions and emphasize the position of Top Zhang Qiling/Bottom Wu Xie. It doesn't matter whether it's NSFW or SFW. Sometimes it can be seen from the atmosphere, the vibe, or the plot that unconsciously implied the matter of position even without making it as NSFW.
PingXie is also not breaking up/not dismantling. They are the only one for each other, only have each other as lovers as well as sexual partners, only love each other, and none of them has other relationships/love affairs (which also means no cheating/no multishipping/do not pair them up with someone else).
In short, it's prohibited to post or comment which has the intention of breaking them up or switching position of top and bottom.
2๏ธโƒฃ ็ฆๆญขๆขฆ (banned dream-girls-comment and the like)
"ๆขฆ" (dream) here refers to "ๆขฆๅฅณ" (dream girl) that is the fangirl who like to treat either Zhang Qiling or Wu Xie as her husband. Thus, it's prohibited to post any contents or comment with this kind of attitude.
3๏ธโƒฃ No drama discussion
It's prohibited to mention and discuss all derivative films and TV shows. Well, ็“ถ้‚ช่ฏ้ข˜ is a cp super group for two-dimensional characters on the book only.
You can see the rest of the rules there.
That is the inside of "PingXie Super Group". There is also a bot for PingXie on Weibo, you can search it directly โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชbotโ€ where you can read PingXie's excerpts from the novel, interviews, etc. (Except for dramas)
If you are interested, you can also follow Zhang Qiling and Wu Xie's account lol. Yeah, they have an account there, as well as the others (maybe someone made it, not sure). As for the other characters, you can search it directly. It's easy to find as long as you know one of them.
In fact, PingXie fan base in China is really fond of โ€œๆด็™–โ€ (tl: cleanliness/mysophobia). "ๆด็™–" has the same meaning of "only", that is โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชๆด็™–โ€ which is similar to โ€œPingXie Onlyโ€. It is basically the same as โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชไธๆ‹†ไธ้€†โ€ that I've mentioned before in PingXie Super Group, but โ€œ็“ถ้‚ชๆด็™–โ€ can be stricter or extreme.
In addition to those, some of them can't accept either Wu Xie or Zhang Qiling has ex-lovers (women or men) with any emotional and physical experiences, they will also refuse to see any fanworks and authors with opposite preferences, and many more.
Although, not all of Daomu Biji fans (็จป็ฑณ) are into this, the amount of PingXie "only" is still so many, since PingXie itself is the most popular and it has a big influence on its fandom. I saw that some PingXie's artists and authors are also into this.
It may just a preference, but the impact on the fandom itself is quite big. I don't know the detail of its history though... it's just that compared to other fandoms, PingXie Only in China is highly conspicuous which is really impressive โœจโœงโ \โ (โ >โ oโ <โ )โ ๏พ‰โ โœงโœจ
It's truly phenomenal!
At the end of the day, I hope everyone respects each other's preferences. Thank you ^โ _โ ^

I forgot that I've read this fic long time ago, it should be the first PingXie fanfic I read. At that time I knew nothing and wanted to know more about PingXie, but I found this fic instead. As a reader who relies on MTL, I'm really grateful that someone translated PingXie Chinese fanfiction into English, but sadly they only translated this one :(
A little note:
They translated many novels too if you want to visit their blog, here or here.
They have an acc here, I will reblog later, this post is for my record :D
