i feel like Karan's tortured/emotional moments this episode (jealousy, possessiveness, a profound feeling of missing out on something, palpable frustration with others getting through his usually very controlled and polite demeanor) stemmed from disappointment in himself for not having made his feelings known - 'It's wrong for me to feel this way when there is nothing but a burgeoning friendship between us right now'. seeing everyone else get to sincerely and candidly take pleasure in Achi's company is a reminder that he is always concealing parts of himself. I think Karan is weighing two things - this surprising burst of bad feelings that he understands he has no right to feel and wants to put an end to, and the constant internal battle he's been having where he tells himself over and over that it's selfish to reveal his feelings to Achi because it will make Achi uncomfortable and anxious in his work environment.

ultimately he decided to tell Achi how he feels, and i think next episode he is going to immediately struggle with the feeling that revealing himself to Achi in this way was an unforgivable act of self-interest.

there were a lot of difficult moments for Karan this episode, but the scene at the end where Karan is watching a room full of people shower their affection and goodwill on Achi, making Achi smile and laugh with them, was particularly rough. i think they did a great job in conveying the constant ache that Karan has to step past the line that stops him from being as sincerely affectionate with Achi as he wants to be, as affectionate and precious to Achi as all the other people that he has seen pass through his day on the day of the shoot.

i redrew that one shot from saltburn with my ocs winghead and adam.

adam is loud and imposing and wants to go to art school and winghead is more like the quiet and polite jock. adam sort of clings onto winghead bc he’s the only other “cursed” at their hs (hence the wings and antennae on their heads) and winghead is annoyed but complacent to his company.

Before / after (also one from uphill and one from downhill) pictures of the fruit tree path I was talking about in this post! I wanted to put this cleared area of the forest to good use, and back then the idea of lining this slope with fruit trees was a maybe-someday project but I’ve planted 3 trees last year and 3 this year, so we’ve got the beginning of a fruit tree alley :) I will continue little by little...

The trees are still so little you can barely see them, but the four arrows in the second pic indicate: a cherry tree, a quince tree, an apple tree and a mirabelle (plum) tree. The cherry and the apple tree are the pioneers from last year and they’re doing well; hopefully the newcomers will enjoy their new home too. The last two trees are by themselves at the other end of my land (near Pandolf’s mossy rock path) because they’re chestnut trees and they’re less hardy, so I planted them at the lowest available altitude. 

A procession of animals followed me up and downhill wanting to see what I was up to. Consequently it was impossible to dig a hole without someone going “It’s my hole. It was made for me.”

Mascarille was interested as well but Morille was there first and seniority matters a lot to cats.

Pandolf is the definition of “I don’t care who started it I’m here to finish it.”
