So tumblr staff banned a trans woman for posting selfies of her transition (fully clothed btw), then obliterated every trace of her existence on this hell site (I can’t find my reblogs from her posts and nobody can, everything regarding her was purged from tumblr), kept her ban for fucking life on tumblr, threatened to call the fbi on her bc of a death threat involving hammering a car until it explodes (ffs dude) and now the tumblr ceo posted a lengthy text about his “values and beliefs”… and yet a trans woman is still banned for life for just posting her existence in this site.

But it gets better worse! Now I can’t fucking reblog the post about the CEO’s values and beliefs with the additional comment reblog I saw bc tumblr just won’t let me! An error keeps showing whenever I try to do it.

Also, the post @weirdbird74 is referring in this, about Matt (the ceo) touching on investigating the ban, is now already deleted

hey, saw you were looking for possible effective templates for reporting the bs from last night, so this is what I ended up sending in, in case it's at all helpful. I personally think it's terrible for more reasons than listed here, but I was trying to keep it to things that were directly actionable and most likely a violation of their previous agreement (I also included relevant screenshots)

I imagine you may be getting more than a few of these in the near future, but despite the previous decision made by your office regarding gender identity discrimination in moderation on Tumblr their CEO has spent a large portion of his night actively ranting about a trans woman that was banned, which seems immediately discriminatory considering this is not normal process for banned accounts on Tumblr (which he even acknowledged, saying company policy in these matters is normally to stay quiet). Furthermore I am concerned about his admission that as of last year, Tumblr did indeed have a transphobic moderator contracted who was also "selling moderation". Despite his claim of having spoken about this before, I had never heard or seen this anywhere on the site (nor had anyone else). Additionally, Matt gave no exact information on the date, but it seems to me that there is every chance this happened after the 180 days given to Tumblr for compliance, and I'm certainly confused as to how it happened if they had actually taken the measures in training and oversight that was asked of them. Beyond that, at least one former employee has noted that trans members of staff may be unfairly targeted for firing, and do not feel safe voicing concerns about transphobia and other possible discriminatory practices. Given that the CEOs behavior this evening involved banning other accounts critical of his decision and going so far as to private message individual users on the platform, I at minimum do not feel comfortable raising any discriminatory issue with Tumblr or Automattic staff given the possible repercussions, and his recent public statements regarding race and gender only suggest this issue will continue to worsen without intervention.

I thank you for your time in reading and hope that someone, possibly, can protect marginalized Tumblr users, because the one clear statement their CEO has made tonight is that he has no plans to, and I would argue he's actually made it less so.

I guess most of you are already aware of the prestrogen situation and I kinda want to comment on it.

As someone who considers themself as a transfem this websites moderation team doesnt look safe for me to rely on. If faced with any hate speech right now I wouldnt report it to tumblr staff because of how they deal with this type of reports. I do hope they change for the better, but I wont trust them to solve my problems even if thats their job.

i’ve been a trans content creator across many different platforms for four years now. and every time i jumped on a new platform, i used to have the same naive hope that i’d find a place on the internet where trans people are safe. but it’s never safe. there isn’t any platform that i’ve been on that i haven’t faced harassment and where my friends and others like me haven’t been unjustly banned.

the first reaction that i had to seeing the stuff about prestrogen was “ah here we go again”. and that’s such a jaded response. and it’s so easy to feel defeated because i’m furious and i’m tired.

but also i think it’s important to remind myself (and anyone else who needs to hear it) that every time i’ve seen this happen, along with the understandable and justified outrage of the trans community, i have also seen incredible resilience and solidarity from both the queer community and from allies.

we should be angry. but we also need to remember that love and support within the community IS resistance. and it’s every bit as powerful and important as righteous fury.

dont isolate yourself. take care of yourself but also check in on your friends.

im mostly telling myself but also im sure some one else needs to remember this too.

I'm trying to make a report to the CCHR, but I'm not sure what to put for Tumblr's address. Wikipedia says they are no longer located at 770 Broadway, and says they're now in SF. Do I put the 770 Broadway address anyway?

I'm not certain; I did not make the initial NYCCHR post that included some notes about the address to cite and I do not know what process may have led to that address being listed. I would still use that address as it's what's most commonly listed on reliable sites/re-routes linked to the company. Many of the other listed addresses (especially 35 E) are listed as "now closed".

I personally just used the listed 770 Boradway NYC address. You could also potentially use Automattic's address: 60 29th Street #343. San Francisco, CA 94110 which is now listed as being associated with Tumblr headquarters as well.

Although I don't know the entirety of the predstrogen situation, I do know that she is trans and she was nuked off this site for saying one bad thing. That is unforgivable.

As a cis man I stand with prestrogen. The actions taken against her are appalling for a site of this caliber. The LGBTQIA+ community has such a massive presence on this site yet when one trans person steps out of line they're done? Unbelievable.

I joined Tumblr and loved it because I truly felt like I connected with this community and felt safe being in it, and a trans person getting banned for a small infraction definitely makes me feel less safe. I don't know if there's anything we can do to fix this injustice other than sharing our voices. Bring back predstrogen.
