I was reading up on criticisms about Evolutionary Psychology, and I stumbled upon this headline on a pro-Evolutionary Psychology article:
Tumblr media
Which as a queer, childless, atheist lefty is such a weird compliment. Evolutionary Psychology is a massive red flag, and I would recommend reading up on it.

Hey, remember the awful audio quality back in C1, especially with the liveshows and the Skype-in episodes, and how nobody blamed the cast for having loud reactions or said that they should stop yelling and shouting despite the literal blowouts?  Hey, remember when Percy used to take over every other group conversation and push for his ideas over the rest of the party’s suggestions, and people just went “Yeah, he’s being a dick, but that’s the type of person Percy is and Taliesin is doing a great job of role-playing as this character”?  Hey, remember when Joe Manganiello came in with a clearly evil PC with his own agenda who ultimately ended up betraying the party, but no one complained that Joe was making the cast uncomfortable and should leave the show?  Hey, remember when Kashaw was interested in Keyleth back in the early days of C1, and no one mocked him for pursuing a PC who wasn’t yet in any canon relationship but had hints of romance with other characters?
Gotta take another peek at those standards because they sure are looking doubled right now.  But hey, I’m sure those are the only reasons why people are criticizing Erika so much for things that other cast members and guests get away with and are even praised for.
Now, this might be a wee bit of a controversial take, but the Critical Role cast are in fact adults who have been playing D&D on and off the Internet for a long time and who have invited many guests to play with them.  They’ve spoken extensively about safe play environments as well as open communication both at and away from the table.  If anyone was uncomfortable even for a minute with someone’s character choices or play style, they’d bring it up off-camera.  If Matt thought a character concept wasn’t a good fit for the table or the story, he’d work with the player to develop something that was. Hell, Erika is a long-time personal friend whom most of them have played with before. If they didn't like how Erika played D&D, or weren't comfortable with something they did in-game, they're perfectly capable of having that discussion with each other as friends and professionals.
Y’know, you don’t have to like either Dusk or Erika, but you do have to examine how you’re talking about them because right now, a lot of the flack they get boils down to “I don’t like them for doing the exact same thing that white cast members are doing/have done, and I assume that because I dislike how they're playing D&D, they must also be making the cast uncomfortable.” And it does not matter whether you had any conscious racist intent or reasoning, because the impact of your words is singling out the sole nonbinary person of colour at the table and treating them as some kind of aggressive "threat" towards the white cast members, whom I will reiterate, are their long-time personal friends who invited them to play in this campaign in the first place.

💜 ECTOPLASM— again!
Hinted before, Ophelia’s ectoplasmic core is both symbiotic and sentient! To an extent.
Its sentience isn’t what humans would find familiar, it’s only truly driven by its own instincts (ie. keep host alive, consume, exist)
It also works in a psuedo-hivemind of sorts, as the necrotic cosmic energy has a natural pull towards the cosmos itself (especially of its own kind). This is the reason why Ophelia will feel strong calls for the stars (the core wants to go home).
Home. What is that for Ectoplasm?
— why the unknowns of space, baby!
The energy is strikingly similar to how jellyfish exist, it floats through clouds of nebulae, unbothered by most outside forces as it devours plasma in it path to sustain itself. It mimics the appearance of both stars and nebulae in order to camouflage itself in the depths of space.
SYMBIOTIC?
The symbiotic nature of ectoplasm teeters between symbiosis and parasitic.
The initial symbiotic connection is… destructive and extremely volatile. Typically, the ectoplasm’s intense energy destroys a potential host from the inside out immediately (an overflow of energy)— in this stage, it will consume and absorb the host completely.
If the ectoplasm successfully accepts and connects with the host upon death, it will begin an osmosis stage where it will slowly assimilate itself with the host until they become ONE.

How can you tell someone is one of these white middle class people you speak of? What should i watch out for
I feel like this is sarcasm and I can't remember who I was calling white middle class people + tried looking through my blog but it's too far back or in between memes for my impatient ass to find.
With that said I'm pretty sure you're talking about my criticism on endogenics because I've called them that a few times.
Obviously not everyone in a group is gonna be white and middle class even if the majority are, but as someone who used to be in endogenic spaces I noticed a few things
Grand majority of them are white Americans
Grand majority are from middle class backgrounds
Grand majority come from fundamentalist religious (Christian) backgrounds and have religious trauma in connection to it but they outright refuse to consider how that may impact their perspective and beliefs today.
Now as someone who is no longer in the community but still observes for critical reasons, things are genuinely not that much different today. Where do you think this whole weird approach to mental illness even comes from, my man? Christianity. Unironically it's from white Western fundie culture.
Fundies hate mentally ill people. In fundie circles you're taught either to approach mentally ill people like they're special and somehow blessed, or that they're fucking possessed by demons. This is an attitude that persists very strongly in Western fundie circles. They don't trust psychology, they think it's all a scam. If they think there's something demonic about being mentally ill, they will perform exorcisms and many people over the decades have died due to abuse during exorcisms and other "cleansing rituals."
The "positive" outlook of mental illness isn't much better. You're still denied treatment, and now you have the burden of being a weird Christ-like figure to your family and neighbours, essentially suffering for "the glory of God" because they think your psychotic audio hallucinations are actual angels.
Many endogenics leave environments where this ^ is the norm, and though they have enough critical thinking and self-awareness to recognise that religious brainwashing for what it is, they don't realise or care that they're falling into the same trap as before, except with liberal-friendly language.
They don't want to approach mental health symptoms as if they're mental health symptoms because they're taught that's scary, bad, that it makes them broken, that the trauma and illness "taints" their system. These are things you can easily find endogenics saying for why they refuse trauma labels. It's not because there's any logical reason to refuse those trauma labels, it's because something inside them is averse to it. Scared of it. Because that's what they were taught. That mental illness is scary and makes you broken.
And so you end up with thinking like this: (all yanked from sysmedsaresexist)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All this ^^^^ Is about spirituality. It's about faith. it's about ideology. Even the stuff that isn't explicitly about faith, is still about faith, because that's how they approach it. It's not about data, or what's healthier, or even what's probable, it's not even about having a good internal reason for yourself WHY you resist trauma labels. It's about what makes them feel the best. Because that's how fundie religious backgrounds teach you how to reason- with belief, and faith, not with grounded reasoning backed up by data.
Asides from that, there's also the very middle class white person thing of appropriating other cultures and bastardising them for your unhealthy anti-science belief system. A lot of the time when I vaguely make fun of white endogenics it's because of that.

Sinnoh's been pulling back on legislation around pokemon breeding regulations. So, PSA: don't purchase pokemon from Sinnoh Breeders. Many of them are mass bred incest babies. Especially popular pokemon like Riolu, Eevee, and Cleffa will often be bred for commercial and competitive use. Shiny Breeding has also been on the rise lately.

ID: A digital sketch of a character looking irritated. She is a thin white woman with curly brown hair tied back with a bow. She has a blue shirt and a white sweater. She has a clenched fist in front of her chest and grits her teeth while rolling her eyes. End ID.

Personality Types are Probably Bunk...
New blogpost: Some thoughts on personality tests.
I’ve always had an inexplicable attraction to personality tests. Part of this is probably part of my inclinations to want to ‘hack my productivity’ by figuring out new ways to make my brain work better, harder, and faster. But I think when it comes to a lot of tests, I just really like the idea of having a label for my tendencies whether that’s introvert/extrovert, or type A type B…
